Poisson d'avril! (WIP)

There are many ways to celebrate April Fools in the world - and the kids of Springfield Elementary school recently learnt that in France, we call it "April Fish" - a day during which the main prank is attempting to stick a paper fish on people's back without being noticed. The teachers thought this would keep the kids busy during this dreadful day... but that's without taking account of Bart's creativity as it comes to pranks. So really. Why use some piece of paper when you can drop - not so fresh - fish freshly stolen from the cafeteria?

I've seen alot of takes from both toxic fh truthers and fh shippers that Scott will never ever get over Jimmy and will obsess over him until he dies forever which. I don't fault anyone for asserting considering that fucker has two jokes and one of them is lolol remember fh But. I think there's something to be said about how Scott has shown time and time again he really is not in love with any personal qualities Jimmy possesses (quite the opposite actually, he seems to find Jimmy obnoxious more often than not during third life including when Jimmy is not really even doing anything) but is rather entranced with the romantic fantasy that Jimmy brings.

Jimmy is, after all, young and pretty and in love and someone he feels relies on him and lets him feel useful so it's not hard to assign him as husband and leave it at that. I don't think Scott is quite in love with Jimmy tbh but I do think he's very much in love with his husband (jimmy). If that makes sense.

With that in mind, I think it's then fascinating when you look at the universes where FH assumably never existed or where he is able to find a replacement for his romantic fantasy relationship. Witchcraft Scott has Milo and Rat Scott has his weird platonic(????) thing with Owen and Pirate Scott focused on his brother instead, Scott tends to actually move on pretty well and adjust to being more. Chill.

Now then if I said last life Scott almost got to this point with his thing with GGG and Pearl specifically challenging his worldview. And then he fucked it all up. Then

You know what they say.............… abusers only show their true selves with people they abuse and here he is screaming at the poor Smilky Twinky like an angry feral animal!! As you can see 'Pure' Vanilla isn't actually THAT pure…. he's a heartless monster who torments the poor little guy...................... (I bet he throws beer bottles at Shamil too)

Next point!

A lot of people lately have been spreading an absolutely inaccurate headcanon that Pure Vanilla is 'minor coded' which is a blatant LIE.............. It has been proven that Shadow Milk is the one who's minor coded and has been unfairly attacked.

Here we see him turn into a kid specifically when PV is around. You know why? Correct, he's scared of Pure Vanilla. He feels small around him, helpless, like a child so he literally becomes one. Not so funny now, shadowvanilla shippers? (also the fact that he's a jester!! kids like toys and flashy stuff!! minor coded behavior!!)

Now the manipulation.

The whole 8th episode has been nothing but a cruel masterplan created by Truthless Recluse designed to break Shadow Milk's heart..... How cruel must you be to lie to someone who's just lonely and wants a friend? Just peak psychopathic behavior on PV's part. (He even says that he did that to make Shamil to lower his guard!! He doesn't even hide that and admits his crimes!!)

Just look how sad and desperate he's here… no one deserve this…....

And after that betrayal, stab in the back, Pure Vanilla attempted to BEFRIEND him? This is manipulation too. He tries to act like he isn't the bad guy, as if he didn't just break Shadow Milk beyond repair. But how can you befriend someone who deceived you? I don't blame Smilk for refusing this offer run my boy, don't let him trick you!!

So as you can see this ship SHOULDN'T BE SHIPPED at any point. Pure Vanilla is the abuser, manipulator, gaslighter and a lot more. While Shadow Milk was his poor puppet he played with him for his own amusement. This ship is the worst thing I had yet witnessed in this life and if you ship it uhhhhhh- I hope both sides of your pillow are hot.............................gross..... be better.

Ok so I just watched Our Blue and Green World on the Video App and I do not have enough time to post my disjointed thoughts about it, and I'm frankly too much in shock by the whole thing to even say anything more. I will point out my one main thought since in a couple of hours, this is going to absolutely blow up the main WK tag and I want to get it off my chest before any major bandwagons hit. This'll be my last S7 spoiler related post for the night so I can log off and take a breather after what the fuck I just watched. Blue-whale/Amazon rainforest sized spoilers under the cut.

I am in such disbelief over this episode's ending. I'm not angry or fuming at the fact that they redeemed Paisey Paver after only giving her 7 appearances over the course of 8 years, (or maybe I'm too surprised to have any straight-forward) or the fact that they had the balls to do so, for ANY of the main villains, but I'm just.... bargaining here. They did a similar "hint" at the villains redeeming in the Christmas special only for it to be a fake-out. And in other episodes, we've seen the heroes legitimately help the villains, but through means other than redeeming them (i.e. saving Zach's life and trying to convince him to live it well, or rescuing Gourmand, or giving Donita a spider-silk dress that was made ethically).

This... is a whole new different level. They for one, pulled a Starlight Glimmer and gave her a new attire (which sucks BTW), and secondly, they had her join the Kratts, but this episode is the first out of the 4 episodes to air, meaning that this likely has to take place after those 3 episodes, so already there's my timeline post to make.

But more importantly, what next? Will they stick with this change? Will this be one of the things that is immediately undone by the end of the episode? Will this have a big role in the series? Is this an elaborate April Fools' prank??? Is this real? Is this the ultimate Paisley Paver pro gamer move to defeat the Kratt Brothers and evade arrest? Will any of this play into the Wild Kratts movie??

I'll tell you what it means [unless it is a prank, which I frankly hope it is] It is the show jumping the shark, and in it, I see one of two outcomes. Either A) it will skyrocket this show like never before, or B) only spell the beginning of the end. Time will tell. And frankly, there is so much that could go wrong. Like so much. I've seen a lot of shows completely go downhill, crash, and burn after sticking up for them so much. I would want to say that Wild Kratts is not/will not be one of those shows, but I could be wrong. In beautifully creative ways, this show has pleasantly surprised me more, and it is still able to bring out episodes that have been some of PBS Kids' best. So I'm walking in completely neutral, and seeing what the blue and green future has in store.

2023 YEAR IN REVIEW!!!

My artstyle changed a lot this year, especially after my shift from ibis paint to procreate after getting my iPad (drawing on an iPad is the BEST btw 100% recommend I love it way more than a phone and it didn’t die after a month like my old wacom 💀💀). I’m relatively happy with where my art is atm and I hope to continue to improve in 2024!

Explanation of all the silly art down below! (Mostly so I can tell y’all who the fanart is for but also cause I like rambling)

January: A drawing of my Rise Leo human design I did to test out a pixel brush I found for Ibis Paint. He’s very fun to draw hehe I need to draw him more-

February: I wanted to learn how to draw the future designs of Leo and Mikey along with CJ so I planned to draw them all together! I struggled with Leo though so I just got rid of him. Sorry Peepaw 😞😞💔💔💔

March: Fanart for @beannary ‘s TLP au! I love it so much so I had to draw smth for it hehe 😈😈💥💥💥 which reminds me I need to draw more at some point- might redraw it at some point cause I’m not super happy with how it turned out but I do like the idea a lot

April: The month I created Reticent! April’s Fools was the first episode I came up with so I drew a chapter poster! It ended up being very different to the chapter cover I drew a couple months later but it’s still cool :D Leo is being weirdly affectionate to Mikey though what the heck that isn’t like him smh. Although I guess it was meant to be purposefully exaggerated sooooo 🥰

June: Krangified Donnie is literally my favourite concept ever thats it that’s all I have to say dbskdbwkh I adore Krangified Donnie and if the Rise brainrot takes over the Reticent brainrot for a while then I will probably be drawing Krangified Donnie during that time sorry not sorry

July: Reticent Chapter 3’s cover yippee!!! Still my favourite Reticent cover although Chapter 8’s is a close second (I can’t wait to post it once it’s been betaread yippee!!!). The scribble over Leo’s eyes is literally just because I was struggling to draw his eyes and i was getting annoyed dbskdbskdb it’s actually a very common issue with him (common Ret!Leo L). Also Mikey being reflected in the mirror is a reference to Mirror Man by Jack Stauber which I’ve basically considered his theme song since @aaronymous999 introduced it to me ebwjcbkwhd thank you Mr. Aaronymous! Also somebody said he was in the barbie box and I still need to draw that to this day because Mikey would’ve killed to go see Barbie.

August: RET DONNIE WOOOOO he’s being bullied again!!! I drew that piece for a colour palette challenge request and realised I got the prompt wrong so I just made it into its own thing 💥💥💥 it’s usually a flickering light gif but I chose to just use the version with the light on for this post. The photos in the background were really fun to draw hehe either April’s or Mikey’s is my favourite.

September: MY 500 FOLLOWER DTIYS YIPPEE (/my 150 follower DTIYS for tumblr). This one took me. Forever to draw and I love it to pieces hehe it was really fun to design Mikey’s room and figure out outfits for the sillies and idk the concept of a sleepover just seemed really fun to me dbskbdkdb- and all the entries I got were so so awesome I loved them all to pieces!!! I still look at them all the time hehe

October: FANART OF @endlesslogo ‘S HUMAN RISE LEO DESIGN WOOOOOO!!! This was the piece I started rendering on hehe it was so much fun to draw!!!! Although I did have a fight with rendering the hair for over an hour svsjegksbdk HOW DO PEOPLE DO IT FR!!!

November: Me and my friends were working on a crossover between our TMNT iterations so I drew all of our Karai’s together!!! I mean garbage is a standard topic for children cartoons…and Hazel is set in an urban setting so the garbage problem is different compared to suburbia

Episode 16: Cookie's Court

This one is a follow up/sequel to a previous episode huh? Took the original series forever to do that, so it’s nice to see it happening much sooner here. Plus I feel this series is a tad more linear

But so yeah…kind of a weak episode. I get it we’re developing a long running villain I guess, but…meh just doesn’t do it for me. Which is again fine, I’m not the target demographic and it doesn’t make it bad.

So I’m glad that there’s more still to come…at some point…here’s hoping New Wish doesn’t follow its predecessors and take multiple years to release 1 season X.x but overall I say good job to the team on this; you seem to know what you’re doing and I look forward to more.

Part 4: Reigisa & SquidBob: The Differences

So, I've talked about how these ships are similar - which was the whole idea behind this entire masterpost in the first place. However, it'd be remiss not to cover how these ships differ from each other as well.

To get it out of the way, I'll state the obvious: one ship is two sea creatures and the other is two anime school boys. They could not be more different in that regard... but I won't be covering that below.

How their relationship has evolved in canon

Looking back at the previous parts of this post, it would be easy to say this is just another similarity between them. And, don't get me wrong, it totally is! However, when we take each show's canon at face value without looking deeper, the relationships do look a bit different.

From a purely canon "Free!" perspective, Rei and Nagisa are regarded as best friends, and see each other as such.

When it comes to the canon in "Spongebob Squarepants," this still seems to be more one-sided - at least publicly. Squidward has shown time and time again that he does care about Spongebob, but this primarily comes out in moments where a) he thinks no one of importance is watching (i.e., mutual acquaintances/friends) or b) the circumstances are dire.

"Spongebob, no matter what I've said, I've always sort of liked you." (Squidward Tentacles, "Graveyard Shift")

One instance that comes to mind for Squidward is the end of "Fools in April," when he apologizes to Spongebob for the hurtful prank he pulled. During this apology, he admits that he likes him (and all their friends), he likes living next door, and he likes "hearing [his] foghorn alarm in the morning and [his] high-pitched giggling at night." When Spongebob finally comes out and asks him if it's all true, he's groveling on the ground, confessing that "yes, yes, Spongebob. Yes, it's all true." He struggled to say this to Spongebob at first as he wasn't one to apologize anyway. But, when it really came down to it, this confession was for Spongebob and Spongebob alone.

When he realizes that everyone else heard what he said, only THEN does he take it back and pretend it was all a joke.

Many of the episodes we've gotten of Squidward being genuinely kind (or even flirty) to Spongebob often happen when no one - or at least no one he will likely meet again - is around to see it (ex. Pizza Delivery, Bubble Bass' Tab, etc.). Spongebob on the other hand...

It begs the question: why is Squidward so concerned with his and Spongebob's mutual connections noticing that he cares about Spongebob? ORRRR... is it that he's worried that they'll catch on to how much he cares about Spongebob?

This brings me to...

Acceptance of feelings

Now that we've talked about where these two dynamic duos started out and how their actions towards each other have changed, it's time to look at how they seem to feel about each other in regards to their relationship.

When we look at Reigisa, it's clear that Rei has completely accepted Nagisa. In all of Nagisa's optimistic, pushy, hyperactive, and generally childish nature - Rei seems to have embraced it all.

I mean, look at these two acting like a proper couple out here on main. In public. Right in front of our salads.

Basically, Rei - who has been routinely stuck in his ways and overthinks everything - no longer gives a single fuck. While the old Rei would've been embarrassed and awkward about Nagisa's affections, the Rei we know later on has fully thrown caution to the wind and he clearly loves Nagisa too much to care what others think about it.

I've mentioned how Spongebob and Nagisa have both openly told their person "I love you." Even Squidward has said this out loud (which I will get to!). And while Rei hasn't blatantly said these three words to my knowledge, just see the way he looks at Nagisa. He doesn't even have to.

Meanwhile, SquidBob is totally there, too. I doubt I would be as fascinated by them as I am if that weren't the case!

I mean, LOOK. They have their own PJ/sleepover moments, too!

However, the fundamental difference here is that while Rei has let go of any expectations of himself to be with Nagisa (he's... free 😉), Squidward is unable to fully do the same with Spongebob for some reason.

I think it's obvious to anyone that Spongebob loved/was infatuated with Squidward from the beginning and his feelings only seem more apparent in the later seasons. Squidward has also made massive progress since then... but there's always a catch.

"I love him... and I hate him." (Squidward Tentacles, "Sponge on the Run") *Tenderly holds Spongebob's hands, getting down on one knee* "You know I... hate you, right?" (Squidward Tentacles, "SpongeBob You're Fired")

MAKE UP YOUR MIND, SQUIDWARD. He is a walking contradiction when it comes to our little spongey friend and he is so close to figuring it out.

However, as I demonstrated above, it doesn't seem like he's ready to take the leap. I personally think he loves Spongebob just as much as Rei loves Nagisa, but he is so self-conscious about being perceived a certain way and/or being embarrassed by Spongebob. Therefore, as we saw in the last post, he thinks he needs to be with people who have the exact same personality as him for it to work... but it never seems to last. (For context, the tweet from Vincent Waller essentially confirms that Squilvia & Squidward are over).

All in all, these two pairings represent the difference between an established relationship (Reigisa) and a slow-burn romance (SquidBob) - they are very much on the same level in terms of cuteness and how much we love seeing their relationships develop BUT they are at very different stages in those relationships.

Regardless of what their "official" relationship statuses are, they are both very much canon in my heart. 🌈💖
