Summary: Leia Organa has announced her intent to join the Apprentice Legislator program to serve her planet during the Challenge of the Mind for her day of demand. After listening to the senate complain about the strained relationship between the military elite and senate, Emperor Sheev Palpatine announces a new program- Interning or shadowing a Moff or someone in the Imperial Navy. Being cheeky, Leia writes down the name of the one person she knows she'd never get assigned to...until she does.

okay one more vent post then I'll shut up
but
part of this job search thing too is like. they want certs and things out here that i didn't even know existed. the same jobs in ND either don't require them or you won't even see the job listing unless you already have the required certs/degrees/know someone in the industry
so like. even things I know how to do, I'm hesitating to apply bc they want certs and schooling i don't have and can't afford rn. and they're probably right to want those things, but it boggles me some days that like. i have experience. i have knowledge. it doesn't matter bc i didn't know to get these certs bc my prior jobs never wanted/asked abt them. i essentially have no experience then.
that fucking hurts. working since i was 14 fucking years old and what do i have to show for it. not much per a lot of the job listings im seeing. Was really worth it starting the privilege of work two years early for my experience to essentially mean nothing nowadays/s
#text post#idek where to start to fix this either#everything costs money and more importantly i don't think i could handle any of it mentally rn#I dont think i would bear out in an apprentice program and wouldn't want to let ppl down by starting one and then failing#and that's if i could even get into one bc those programs also want certs i don't have#maybe i should just accept that im useless today and take an edible and ignore all of this for the day#i have sad edizzy for the music au I could finish and share but ngl that feels just as useless as job applying rn#sorry y'all just. bad fucking brain day today

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to someone planning to self-learn programming? Honestly the industry is a maze to me, there's so many options and I don't know where to begin (especially since a lot of the sources you can find about where to start with self-teaching and programming in general is based on USA statistics and whatnot, which could misinform my expectations as I am not located in the US).
Honestly since I don’t know where you live, I can’t specific recommend any apprenticeships.
I live in the UK and in recent years the UK Government has basically pushed for more people to do apprenticeships in various areas and fields so you can literally find an apprenticeship in anything these days.
There’s literally a page in the UK Gov website to find apprenticeships near you - LINK
You can check out the place I currently do my apprenticeship at QA Apprenticeships - LINK
Those are the two resources I used to find my apprenticeship, I don’t know lots on all the apprenticeships available unfortunately 🥲
But I hope this helps you, I understand everything is very American based so kind of blinded to see the opportunities available to you in your own city or country! I would recommend an apprenticeship since they help you with the skills and experience as well as getting paid 😩🙌🏾
Good luck to finding an apprenticeship!

another thing that i think about also is that the clout factor of phd programs is really weird and contradictory...like obviously within a program there are the epic highs and lows of feeling like the smartest person alive and also the most worthless, but from people outside of academia it's weird. because it's impressive to a lot of people to be getting a phd, but some people also think it's stupid and will tell you so, and some people will think of you as a student and therefore kind of a child even if they won't say it directly despite you being fully 30 years old and constantly doing very fancy complicated real job shit. i think it's probably not the move if clout is the main motivator
#awkward and frustrating given how many people who go into phd programs care about prestige (including me)#i feel like we should at least be seen as apprentices since we are fully just doing jobs. 'student' seems incorrect#but anyway

Being an apprentice in your 20s and learning new skills is all fun and interesting. I just don't wanna be treated like a child and I feel like the system and the people still act like I am.
#got introduced to my current supercisor today and he takes regulations so very seriously#it doesn't matter to him that they were made for 15 year olds#i feel like I'm being overly criticised and NOTHING HAPPENED#this is a serious topic and even when talking to my UNION the only thing they tell me is their past achievements#they're an apprentice union so you see the pattern there right#the media is like#nooo we need more people who know things from expierence#who have learned a profession#and not academics#but most people starting in such professions are literal children that don't care and have had their parents sign them up#but when you enter such programs as an adult becuse you feel lost in the academics world#the system isn't made for you#and you struggle with your mental health over it and constantly regret your decisions because you've wasted your prior achievements#and years of school to start again with 15 year olds#you get paid the same#you are treated like a child for most of the time#you have to sit through communal punishments like it's primary school#but the media#OH THE MEDIA#they scream and cry about how nobody cares for apprenticeships
