I am FULLY ONBOARD the Harris/Waltz train, tho before this i was leaning towards Mark Kelly (AZ is a swing state! He's an ASTRONAUT!) If you want or have time, no pressure, but any thoughts on what makes Waltz a better pick?
I like Mark Kelly too, and since he's married to Gabby Giffords (having run for public office after she got shot and could no longer do so) he would have been an amazing pick in terms of supporting the first female POTUS. But he is a less charismatic public speaker than Walz (for whatever that's worth, but politics is a mess of Aesthetics and Vibes that matter as much and/or more than actual facts) and more moderate/conservative. He's been a great senator and picking him would defuse some of the BORDER IMMIGRATION BLAH BLAH!!! scaremongering that Republicans love to run on, but it would also leave open the possibility of losing a special election and other dangers with the Democratic senate that we really need to minimize. So Walz is a better choice for that alone, but also:
He really has serious progressive credentials as governor, even if he was a fairly mainstream Democrat (who flipped a rural red House district in Minnesota that Democrats have not been able to win again after he left) during his 12 years in the House. This is an INCOMPLETE LIST of what he was able to do in two years with a one-seat Democratic majority in Minnesota:
A Climate Action Plan that included:
Investing in energy infrastructure
100% carbon-free electricity by 2040 goal
Transition off of fossil fuels and onto clean energy resources
Building more electric vehicle charging stations
Providing funding to help workers acquire new skills through apprenticeship programs in clean energy fields
Direct state funding for transit
Money for rail
Tax credit for e-bikes
Permitting form to fast-track clean energy projects
And that was in addition to:
Codified abortion access in Minnesota
Guaranteed paid sick time and paid family and medical leave
Funded replacing ALL LEAD PIPES IN THE STATE
Free school breakfasts and lunches for all
Made public college free
Stronger labor protections
Drivers’ Licenses for All
Voting Rights Act to reverse recent court rulings that make voting harder, including restored voting rights to convicted felons
Banning medical debt from credit bureaus
The "Taylor Swift Bill" requiring all ticket "junk fees" be shown up front
Banning most "junk fees"
No book bans
Protection for tipped workers
Banned non-competes
Legalized recreational cannabis
Gun control, including increased penalties for straw purchases of firearms, expanded background checks and enacted red-flag laws, passing gun safety measures that the GOP has thwarted for years
Made MN a Trans Refuge State, and required health plans to cover “medically necessary gender-affirming care.”
Pay increase for Uber and Lyft drivers
Elimination of the so-called “gay panic defense”
A ban on “doxxing” election workers
A prohibition on “swatting” elected officials
In March, during the height of the Gaza/uncommitted primary protests against Biden, Walz said that young people should be listened to and they had a right to be speaking up and the situation in Gaza was horrible and intolerable, without directly slamming Biden or getting involved in the issue in a way to draw negative headlines. Regardless of what you think about any of it, that is a very deft way to handle it and pairs well with Kamala's better responsiveness on the Gaza issue overall. That was a big part of the reason why Gen Z/younger voters were very excited about Walz despite him being an "old" (actually the same age as Kamala but he has joked that teaching high school for 20 years will do that to a guy) white guy. If half the battle in politics is making the right pick to excite your core voters and reach out to new ones, then Harris nailed it. As I have said in earlier posts, there was just too much energy with young voters FINALLY checking in when Harris became the candidate, to risk introducing a big ideological split with Shapiro.
Aside from that: the most insufferable Smart White-Bro Political Pundits (TM) are big mad about Walz, many Never Trumper Republicans thought they were entitled to a "moderate" in exchange for oh-so-generously lending us their vote against Trump and not run the risk that we might end up with someone *gasp* progressive, and the regular MAGA Republicans are hysterical, which means they're terrified. It's also incredibly hard to paint Literal Midwestern Stereotype Dad (football coach, social studies high school teacher, military veteran, etc) as THE EVIL END OF AMERICA in the way they desperately want to do, though the fact that they're trying shows that they've got literally nothing. The fact that Kamala picked Walz against the PREVAILING WISDOM!!! that she had to take Shapiro (for whatever reason that might have been) is also a good sign, because by far the most genuine and extensive enthusiasm that I have seen from Democratic voters, especially those feeling burned out or disillusioned or angry with specific policy choices of the current administration, was for Walz. Having everyone excited for the pick beforehand, effectively using the "weird" line, and rallying behind the guy, only for her to actually go for him, is inspiring. It makes people feel like they're being heard and the Democrats have decided to win by being progressive, and not just endlessly Catering To The (Imaginary) Middle as they have always been told to do (and often done). That alone is MASSIVE.
Walz is tremendously funny, personable, has Democrats from AOC to Joe Manchin praising it (again, shocking), was right out the gate supporting Kamala, has already been majorly successful on TV, was by far the most progressive-on-policy picks of the VP finalists, is incredibly, hilariously wholesome and small-town Midwestern (he's the JD Vance that they wish JD Vance was), and is already sending ActBlue gangbusters with donations again. And when you're getting this kind of response on the Cursed Bird Hellsite, just:
Just. I don't know what's happening either. But let's enjoy it, and then work hard, because we gotta fucking do this and for possibly the first time this entire year, I really think we might. Heck yeah.

i think it's interesting how Maj'el had to resign from Nova Squadron to be allowed to go on the Solum mission, but the rest of the Protostar Crew didn't seem to have to formally renounce the Starfleet apprenticeship thing they had going on. My best guess is that the Nova Squadron candidacy program is directly sponsored by Starfleet, while the Protostar crew (if I'm remembering correctly) are sponsored by Janeway personally. Maybe it puts them in a grey enough legal area that it's not outright breaking the rules

SO: my boyfriend and i have plans for me to move up north to live with him by late next year at the earliest.
he's in edmonton, so it'll be a big change, but we've got time. the lease on the house that my family is renting expires a year from now, and when it's up we intend to downsize, so i've got to stick around long enough to help my mom and sister with the move.
we're also waiting to hear back on a job he applied for that'll pay more than twice what he's making now, because legally they'll have to be able to prove they can financially support me in order to sponsor me for legal residence. so if he doesn't get this specific job we might have to wait until he finds a different one that also pays better, but we've still got time.
once i'm there, my plan is to do an apprenticeship through the big trade school in edmonton and get a job at an auto garage right after that program's done. (and yes, we agreed that me gaining weight will also wait until i've gotten settled in with them.)

ALRIGHT SO-
I've seen a lot of people say that the new timeline is inconsctant with Tracer's age. Which I originally agreed with cause I thought there was no way in hell Lena could have been 16-17 during Uprising, let along when she flew that plane;
But then I actually looked up the legal age you can fly a plane in England and;
Now it also states that Tracer was apart of RAF which you can apply to for an apprenticeship at 15 and 9 months, but to be a full member you need to at least be 17.5. However, it is entirely possible that Lena was given an exception considering 1, her dad is implied to be a solider, 2, she's a prodigy when it comes to flying, and 3, this is a post Crisis world were these kinds of laws could have changed as a reaction to the Crisis. It also says the she was the youngest ever to be apart of Overwatch's experimental flight program;
Which means not only was she young, but what happened to her cause them to never do that shit again. Considering it says "youngest ever". Meaning it's entirely possible for Lena to 16-17 when the Uprising happened. Not only that but the Uprising happened while Lena was in training, so again, entirely possible for this to happen.
So yeah, surprisingly, Tracer being a teenager during the events of Uprising is very possible and doesn't actually contradict canon.
#Can you tell I had my own Crisis when I found this out?#Like wtf are these laws#why are teens allowed to fly planes?#overwatch#overwatch 2#overwatch lore#overwatch headcanons#analysis#tracer overwatch#tracer#lena oxton

In high school I briefly considered studying Canon law for the Catholic Church in college, there were a ton of scholarships available and I had really enjoyed my theology and Latin classes at my catholic high school. Since I have since discovered that I'm a trans woman, how terrible would that idea have been?
Practising canon law itself would’ve been terrible. But for pure curiosity or as a generalist ‘liberal arts’ degree, quite decent.
Historically, many people studied Canon Law (and Roman Law) as a sort of generalist studies program that didn’t lead to legal practice. In fact, law schools in common law countries didn’t even qualify you to pass the bar at all for the longest time. Legal practice was through apprenticeships, and law school was for bougie elite who wanted to develop their ‘intellectual’ skills, usually before going into politics or business.

Blood Stained
Joey unzips the blue canvas duffle bag that’s sitting on her coffin-bed, ignoring high-pitched singing from the hallway bathroom and the sounds of someone in the next room over slamming drawers. She’s one of five vampire mentees living in this halfway house, eligible now that she’ll be participating in an apprenticeship. She’s one of the lucky ones. Her counselor said before Chimera got grants for halfway housing options, vamps in the mentor program were stuck finding their own accommodations. And places that will take vampire tenants at all often charge exorbitant rates for the privilege.
Inside the bag, on top, is the folder that holds her copies of the mentor program agreement, the list of expectations and terms, and her visitation plan. She pulls out the plan and pins it to the corkboard over the head of her bed. The first three weeks are solid red, but there’s a yellow bar halfway through week four. Conditional potential to see family members in a controlled environment.
She’ll take it. Video calls with Mauri and Via are more contact than she thought she’d ever be able to have again, but now that she knows there’s the possibility of more, waiting three weeks’ probation feels like an eternity.
She tacks up the stained, creased photo of her family beside it. Over the years and miles, the corners have gotten blunted, the color has flaked away on the fold lines, and the faces have changed. But she’s held onto it this long, and it’s a reminder of what she’s going through all this for. She’s absurdly grateful someone chose to tuck it into her coffin with her.
Everything Josefina Quintero has done for the past six years has been to protect her siblings.
Even, if necessary, from her.
There’s another folder in the duffle bag, this one with a company’s logo on the front. The same logo that’s on the azure sweatshirt and t-shirts folded up inside below it. Even on the pen clipped to the front.
Joey sits down on the bed and starts filling out the employment papers for Nico’s Custodial Service. She can even answer the work authorization honestly for once. Chimera’s legal team got her provisionally cleared to work while Carmen Stoker of all people is using Joey’s case to make an argument for citizenship status for vampires based on location of home earth.
As far as starts to an un-life go, this isn’t the worst.
She isn’t counting the two weeks she spent locked in a crypt trying to keep herself from feeding on humans after her first fledgling hunt, or the next ten days in Chimera’s infirmary with their medics treating her blood-starvation and throwing her a lifeline in the form of the synthetic replacement.
She takes two easy-open packs from the mini-fridge in the corner of her room and tucks them into the insulated lunch bag that was folded under the shirts. Eventually, she’ll only need one, but her body is still riding the peaks and valleys of the newly fledged.
By the time a blue-and-white van with the cleaning company’s logo pulls up in front of her building, she’s checked off nearly every item on the paper at the front of her personnel manual.
Long hair out of the way; braided in a single tight French style down her back.
Wearing the company t-shirt and sweatshirt (if desired, and apparently most vampires appreciate the extra warmth), as well as the grey cargo pants that were folded up below them, and the sturdy ankle-high work boots she found in a box under that.
Copies of her work authorization documents to be filed with her I-9, made at Chimera’s office this morning.
Signed front page of the personnel manual.
Signed technology policy and her new (very basic, very locked down) cell phone in one pocket. There’s only three numbers in it right now. The cleaning company’s office line, her mentor’s personal cell number, and the Chimera number that will take her directly to the department that deals with anyone in the mentor program.
She’s met Nico Pontevecchio a couple times before this. Once in one of the interview rooms at Chimera when they were determining if the two of them were a good fit for each other, then again in Huntmaster Lawson’s office when they signed the mentorship agreement.
The vampire in the driver’s seat is wearing the same sweatshirt she’s seen every other time, a faded version of the one she was just given, with bleach stains (that seems like the wrong word, but she can’t come up with anything else for it) on the stomach pocket and grimy, frayed wrist cuffs.
He’s chomping away on another of what seem to be ever-present sticks of gum as he reaches across the front seat and opens the passenger door for her. Joey climbs in, looking for a place to set her paperwork. There’s invoices stacked on top of the dashboard, and the console is a clutter of rubber gloves, empty sanitizer bottles, and gas receipts.
She’s not sure how much faith she has in the professionalism of this cleaning company.
“Sorry for the mess,” Pontevecchio says, grabbing the invoices off the dashboard and setting them down somewhere between the backs of the seats and the grating that keeps the cleaning supplies from coming up into the cab with them at any red light. “I’ve been keepin’ all my stuff on the passenger seat. Haven’t had anyone in here in a bit, and last night was crazy. Wish it was cleaner for ya.”
“I don’t mind.” Joey sits down and straps in, and they pull away from the curb.
“Nervous?” Pontevecchio asks as they make their way through evening traffic.
“Kind of. I’ve never done this before.” It sounds like cleaning for a janitor service has a lot of different responsibilities.
“Don’t worry about it. You’ll catch on quick. Once you learn your building layouts, you’ll get a feel for it. You can start making a sort of pattern.” He hands her a flat plastic clipboard, also blue, with a stack of papers on it. One is a list of addresses. One is a list of tasks. “Some of our clients have in-house janitors that they’re just supplementing, and we do a little less at them. Those are the places we’re going to start with.”
He reaches across the dash and opens the glove box. “There’s a pack of gum in there if you want some.”
“No thanks.” Her stomach is tied up in enough knots.
“Ok, so here’s the deal. My first mentee said it was just me being an enthusiastic Italian, but I will talk your ear off today if only to keep your mind on something other than getting overwhelmed by a new job. You can be getting overwhelmed by my inability to shut up instead.”
Joey actually laughs at that one.
“So ask me anything you want. Otherwise I’m just going to start rambling about weirdest work stories.”
“Why did you start a cleaning company?” She’d sort of figured a former hunter would have opened a private investigation service or done something similarly…cool.
“My great-great-grandmother cleaned rich people’s mansions in New York City after my family came over from Italy. If it was good enough for her, it’s damn well good enough for me. Runs in my blood. And it’s a good job for young vampires. Little to no interaction with humans on shift, and all night hours.”
“That makes a lot of sense.”
“We advertise we’re 100 percent vampire owned and staffed. Bleeding hearts who wanna put their money where their mouth is are honestly competing for contracts right now. There’s more people on our side in LA than it feels like sometimes.”
It takes Joey a few seconds to remember that ‘bleeding hearts’ isn’t an insult to vampire supporters anymore. They’ve sort of commandeered the term, deciding it’s pretty accurate, and made it a rallying cry instead.
He digs around in the tangle in the console, pulls out a cigarette-lighter phone charger and tosses it up on the dash, and eventually comes up with a pen and a small rectangle of label paper. “Your ID’s got all your info on it, but if you don’t want anyone you bump into knowing your last name and all, you can just make your own nametag. We had some trouble with one of our employees getting harassed, so now I offer everyone this option. As long as we still have the work IDs to show building security, no one minds.”
Joey wouldn’t have thought of that issue, but she’s glad her mentor did. She unclips the badge with her whole name, photo ID, and a little strip like a credit card on it, slips it into her pocket, and starts writing her nametag out.
“We’ll get you a real nameplate ordered, just let me know what name you’d like on it.”
She looks at his own, a plain white plate with smallish blue letters spelling out Domenico P.
“Is it better to use our full first names?”
Pontevecchio laughs. “I just do this so no one knows I own the company. They don’t usually bother readin’ all the way to the end.”
“Why, less people harass you about how you’re doing the job?”
“Actually more like the opposite.” He shrugs. “I work the first few nights at any new location. They can be perfectly respectful when they’re talking to the company owner, but what matters to me is how they’re gonna treat my people.” He taps the nametag. “But you can call me Nico.”
“In that case, I’m Joey.”
He pulls into the parking garage of a tall office building. Joey feels like panicking for a second, until she realizes the garage is shared with the low building next door that advertises itself as the HR software company whose name is on their list. Okay. One floor. One building. She can do that.
They climb out of the van and start unloading the equipment they need.
“Three pairs of gloves, in your pockets, at all times.” Nico hands her a box of bright green ones. “You didn’t indicate any known allergies to the supplies we use, but tell me right away if something starts bothering you.”
She nods and tucks the gloves into one of the big leg pockets. She’s starting to understand the specific clothing choices whoever put together her work bag made.
He talks her through the rationale behind every other piece of gear they collect, and then they’re headed in through the back door.
“This one’s easy. We deep clean once a week, but that’s not today.”
Joey picks up her clipboard to double-check what her checklist for this building will be, and then realizes this isn’t her clipboard at all.
There’s a photo of a kid with braces, floppy hair, and a lopsided model volcano taped to the back of the clipboard under the list of addresses, checklists, and cleaning supply order forms.
She’d known Nico had a kid. She was told upfront that the best mentor-mentee matches share something deeply personal in common. Wanting to get their lives together to be part of their families’ again, well, it doesn’t get a whole lot more personal than that.
“That’s Ricky,” Nico says. There’s an undercurrent of hurt in his voice.
“He’s sweet.”
Nico just nods. She has the feeling there’s something there that hurts. Something that, for all his enthusiastic rambling, he can’t bring himself to talk about.
She doesn’t talk about her family. She never has. It was safer for them all. No one knew she had younger siblings unless it was absolutely necessary. Not when they were trying to cross the border, and definitely not when she was trying to pay for Via’s seizure meds with her bookie gig.
Nico folds the papers back over the picture, tucks the clipboard into a side pocket of the trash cart, and reaches for the trash can near the door while Joey unwinds the vacuum’s cord and searches for a wall plug.
For a while, the whine of the motor is their only background noise, and then Joey shuts it off and fights with the catch holding the dirt cup in place so she can empty the astonishing amount of grit and hair it’s collected into the trash cart.
“I bit him,” Nico says, out of what seems like nowhere.
But Joey knows exactly who he means.
“My family knew what I was gonna be, and buried me anyway. I guess they wanted another chance. They were there waitin’ to help me dig myself out. And…I attacked them.” He looks down at the gloves on his hands. “I almost strangled my wife, and when Ricky tried to pull me off her I bit his arm. I’m just lucky I didn’t infect him. But…he’s been terrified o’ me ever since. For good reason.”
Joey knows fledgling hunger. She knows what it did to her, what she was afraid it might lead her to. He’s lived her worst nightmare come true.
“I’d just gotten my feet back under me and started figuring out how to control myself when I found out he’d gotten himself accepted to an oceanography program in San Diego. I had to get out of New York anyway. My old agency was hunting me down, and they were closing in. So I moved out here. It was about as far away as I could get from my old life.”
“Have you two reconnected?” Joey asks.
“We’re still…workin’ on things. This is the best compromise, gives him some distance but if he wants to get together on weekends, I’m close enough for it. And Lawson and I had crossed paths a few times before this. I knew she was starting a mentor program here, and I figured I might as well be useful to someone else. No one should be doin’ this alone.”
“Yeah, it kind of sucks.”
He laughs. “Lawson helped me get this business started on the condition I’d be another mentor for people when she needed it. It’s worked out pretty well so far.”
“How many mentorships have you done?”
“Two so far, you’re my third. It’s picking up now, I guess, after everything with your friend Barrett.”
Joey nods. She’s still shocked he went to the trouble to track her down. They’d been friendly enough when he was an underground fighter and she was taking bets on the action, and she’d never believed what the news had said about him killing those people, but she’d never expected him to remember her, much less realized she’d been infected.
Apparently, according to his partner, he’d put her name at the top of a list of likely candidates for a pilot program the agency is running with people who are infected, but haven’t turned.
He found her too late for that one, but at least there was still an option.
If it’s working for him, she’s pretty sure it’ll work for her too.
“Okay, that’s it for this place.” Nico hauls the trash cart out back, and the two of them reload their van and pull out.
The next location is a resource center that caters to people recently released from prison, connecting them to housing, food, and employment options. It isn’t so different from the office Joey was sitting in just this morning, getting the keys to the halfway house, her few possessions she’d had on her when she was brought to the clinic, and the blue duffle that contained everything else she currently owns in the world.
She walks into the bathroom to start cleaning, and stops cold.
The floor is covered in red smears.
There’s a coppery scent in her nose, a ringing in her ears, and a tingling in her jaw.
Blood. Fresh blood.
Someone touches her shoulder, and she spins with a snarl. This is hers. She found it. Her food.
“..ey? Joey?” The threat to her meal resolves itself into Nico’s worried face, accompanied by the strong smell of wintergreen, overpowering the metallic tang of blood.
“I told them to stop using kill traps,” he says apologetically. “They’ve been having issues with rats since they set up the food pantry in here, so they’ve been setting traps, but these kind make a mess.”
A rat. A rat is what bled all over the floor.
And she’s so out of control that the blood from some dead vermin would have been enough for her to tear into Nico over.
She chokes, pushes her way out the door, and rushes into the corner behind a rack of business suits with a faded sign that says “Interview Closet” on it.
She’s not sure how much later it is that Nico wheels aside the rack and crouches down beside her.
“It’s all taken care of,” he says gently. “I threw the rat out, cleaned up the floor twice, sprayed the whole room with wintergreen, and threw out every kill trap I could find in this place. They can bill me for it if they want, and I’ll bring by some live traps tomorrow.”
Joey doesn’t answer him. She can’t.
“It’s okay. You’ve barely been a vampire two months,” Nico says quietly. “Nobody expects you not to react to blood.”
“What if I never get better?”
“You will. It just feels impossible right now.”
“But I thought I was controlling it, and then this happened. What if I only think I am when they let me see my family?”
“No one is going to let you hurt your family. I promise. We know what we’re doing.”
“I was only ever trying to protect them,” She whispers. “My mother was a reporter, back home in Venezuela. She went after a powerful man with dangerous friends. When he had her killed, I was afraid to stay in the country. My aunt had married an American businessman years before and gone to live with him in Los Angeles, and my sister needed good medical care. I thought Tía Patricia could help.” What none of them had known at the time was that the marriage had lasted three years, and ended in a messy divorce that left Tía Patricia barely scraping by on an office assistant’s salary. They’d only found out after they made it to the city.
Our family isn’t really much for sharing our failures.
“We didn’t have enough money for most of the coyotes making border runs. I was told about one man who would do it for cheap, but he wanted more than money. I thought I knew what he was asking for.”
She still remembers that night like it was yesterday. The blood-red semi. The flickering halogen lamp with moths fluttering around it. The sting at her wrist and the chill in her blood.
The last thing she remembers from her human life is a pair of bright headlights, coming straight for her.
“He was a vampire. Did border crossings for blood.” They were lucky he wasn’t one of the sort who kept his human cargo as a food source. She was in the Chimera infirmary when a raid team brought in some victims of one of them. “He must have lost control and infected me when he fed on me.” She shakes her head. “Mauri and Via didn’t know what he was. I should have told them but I didn’t want them to know what I’d done. I didn’t want them to think it was their fault. It was stupid. I was stupid. I thought there would be time, when they were older, to tell them everything. So they’d know what to do when the time came. But I was wrong.”
Red lights reflecting off the hood, painting the car the same blood red as that semi.
And in the split second before impact, the oddest feeling that she’d seen moths clustering around the lights, narrowing them down to searing pinpricks of brilliant death.
“They didn’t know I was going to turn, and they buried me.” She chokes back a sob. “I made some bad decisions. Some really bad decisions. But I was nineteen and I was scared and I didn’t want to lose the only family I had left.” She looks down at the floor, seeing those smears of red all over again. “But it didn’t matter what I did. I lost them anyway.”
“You haven’t lost them yet.” Nico puts a hand on her shoulder. “Come on. We’re done here. Let’s go out to the van and eat. Even I’m not immune to smelling blood. I feel like I’m starving.”
She’s not sure if he’s just trying to make her feel better, or telling the truth, but it sort of helps.
Maybe he’s right.
Maybe, someday, she’ll be okay.

Okay here we go.Being a horse jockey must be an exciting profession and I am here to explain the in's and out's of Ace's talent.
Origins
While modern horse racing was introduced in the 18 century, the earliest records of the sport came from the Greeks as they had chariot racing as one of the competitions of that age, so horse racing was inspired by this activity, then it spread to neighboring regions like the Middle East, Africa, Persia, and more . Races in the medieval times were conducted to determine one's speed on horseback. The King's Plate races were introduced by Charles the second which were the first ever races that gave out awarded prizes and when the rules of the sport were first made known.France then established the Prix du Jockey Club in 1836. Betting on the winner has also been around since Louis the 14th.
The Process of a Horse Jockey
Well to become a horse jockey you got to learn how to ride a horse which probably means that Ace learned how to ride a horse prior to becoming a professional horse jockey. The legal age of becoming a horse jockey is around sixteen in America and England. Then you go to an academy like the Bluegrass Community Technical Colleges Equine program which is located in Lexington, Kentucky or the Professional Racetrack Exercise Rider/Jockey Program in Olds College in Canada, and The British Racing School in Great Britain. They also have to have a high school diploma or GED.They are also required to pickup a job in that profession like a stable hand or groomer which means Ace probably knows how to clean a horse in the proper way your suppose to clean a horse. Then you would need to get an apprenticeship license which in the US you would need to pass all their exams and be placed in a racetrack for sixty days by a committee to get hands on training. Another thing that a jockey would need would be a professional and personal reference which personally makes me think. Who was Ace's personal reference like sure he is very talented with riding horses, but with his overall personality assuming that his bark with no bite type of behavior was a thing before he went professional and went like "yep he'll be fine". I mean yeah the reference might be he's parents, but anybody else that was close to him would probably know how he would react in such a dangerous sport, but back on topic. You would then need to compete against schooling race and get your journeyman jockey license. To get your journeyman jockey license you would need to have a two year degree from jockey school and the schools usually limit the amount of students to twelve per year.Next thing to do is hire an agent and join a jockey's guild. The guild's bargain for their members and will provide life insurance, disability benefits, and will advocate for safe working conditions.
On The Tracks
Now that we know the process of becoming a horse jockey, I think we should get into the general stuff they do. The average salary for a jockey is around $52,645 and the crazy things that they only get five percent of what they win. They do a lot of calisthenics like squats and burpees, they're also some weightlifting thrown into the mix. Jockey got a riding simulator to practice how to ride and balance on the horse properly. They usually eat foods with high in proteins and fibers, but they diet themselves and drink little to no water since the weight limit of a jockey is one hundred and twenty five pounds. The horses also have to be one hundred to six hundred. pounds. The colors the jockeys wear are actually for the owners or trainers that employ them and the tradition was influenced by racing events in Italian city communities. Now there are five types of racing that range from flat racing to Steeplechase racing. Flat racing is the kind of usually racing where the jockeys and their horses go around the track to the finish line. National hunt racing or better known as jump racing has the horses jumping over hurdles to the finish. Endurance racing is a fifty to one hundred mile that takes the horses and their riders through different kinds of terrain like forests and mountains. Quarter horse racing is a race that's a quarter of a mile to see which horse can go the fastest under such a short distance. Lastly we got steeplechase racing which is basically the same as national hunt racing, but with different obstacles like water and bushes. There's also a race for horses that haven't won a race. Horses can get over excited because they know they are about to race so the routine in a stable is designed to keep the horses calm.
Betting
Investigation Time
So betting on horses is a complicated system of statistics and the ability of the horse you're betting on. So the least complicated bet would be the straight wagers, which the person would bet on if their chosen horse will win wager it will need to get first place, for place it would need to get first or second place, and for show it would need to get into first to third place. The minimum you can bet on them is $2. Exotic wagers are more complicated and difficult to win since you would be betting on multiple horses. So Exacta is where you bet on which two horses will get in first and second place, Quinella is like Exacta but the places of the horses you bet on can be interchangeable, and for Doubles you can bet on two horses that are in two different races. A technique used by a group is known as show parlay, where the group will bet on the same horse and double the amount they bet on. This is the repeated till they lose their bets.
So now we're at the final stretch. Now it seems that Ace can't do a lot to help solve a murder but he is very strong and stubborn which helps when bodyguarding the crime scene or helping with arguments as an extra insight. He also definitely has a lot of knowledge on workout equipment because of the requirements of his talent, which I will admit is very specific in the case that there's a gym in this chapter and if it was anything else then he would just be a bodyguard. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask at any time.

What can we do to improve employment for autistic people? Everyone on Tumblr just complains which doesn't really help me at all.
Hello we are both not adults so don't know much about working but I would probably just this is from my knowledge:
There is some special workplaces that are for people with special needs to work which there could be one near you, or apprenticeships or work experience specifically for disabled people I have seen
Occupational therapy may help someone get the skills (skills like emotional regulation and fine motor skills) to work but it doesn't always work
work places are supposed to do accommodations that may help but they are not all of the places unfortunately :(
In the long run and not personal I think maybe just advocating for the laws to be stricter and more specific for support in your job and for it not to be legal for the hire person to ask you to about disability but I know those laws exist but maybe more stricter and less loop holes allowed.
There is also some charity's and programs for this, so maybe search on google about charities and programs and give them a look :)

Short Fiction Weekly Challenge
Time for a new prompt from the Short Fiction Weekly Challenge, tumblr edition. Let it spark your imagination. Any character, any fandom, any original world. Reblogs welcome!
Post your story to your blog and send the link to Short Fiction Weekly Challenge! We’ll send the link out to all our followers to enjoy.
This week’s SFWC prompt:
Week of April 19, 2024
Paperwork: In most settings, your character will have to interact with officials of some kind, and that involves paperwork, literal or figurative. How do they finance an expensive purchase? Loans? Indenture? What about passes to travel between kingdoms or star systems? Is there an office that keeps track of property? Crimes committed? Occupations? How do they get into a school or apprenticeship or training program? Is there a sign or badge guaranteeing quality work? What records are kept in your setting, and who keeps them? What happens if your character doesn’t complete their relevant paperwork, or does it wrong? We’ve had prompts for law and legality, as well as for writing. This week it’s the intersection of the two.
Feel free to continue submitting stories for any prompt. A masterpiece missed the deadline? Don’t let it gather electronic dust. Submit it anyway and Short Fiction Weekly Challenge will publish it.
This week’s featured previous prompts are:
Reunited: Characters who spend time apart must come back together. Do they look forward to it? Dread it? Count every moment until they can reunite, or invent ways to prolong the separation? Do they have any special rituals? A particular knock or bell ring, a call to their partner, a hug or kiss? Furtively sneaking in and hoping no one notices? How do they catch up? Long conversations? Bare mumbles? Does it matter for them how long they’ve been apart, or is a few hours separation as hard to bear as a month?
Oblivious: Not everyone is observant, and even the most vigilant character misses something on occasion. When did they miss something obvious? It could be a physical object or an idea. The proverbial elephant in the room or a solution that's staring them in the face. Maybe your character just overlooks cues everyone else sees. What happens when someone else points it out?
Got an idea for a prompt? Submit it here.

Hi! I’m a huge fan of this page and I want you to know how much you have help me a lot.
I am quite in need of advice in this. Please reply whenever it suits for you. :)
A year from now, I will be transitioning from my senior year to college life. I am a WOC in a 3rd country and I feel quite overwhelmed upon all the step I am trying to make. I want to study abroad after I finished highschool, but I somehow feel stuck. It felt like I froze upon learning all the things I needed to do — safe to say, it scares me big time. My parents, although they are great people, isn’t the best in helping me complying with all the papers I have to compile for reasons that they are as busy in their respective jobs trying to make ends meet for our family. I am also struggling where will my finances come from even if I receive scholarship and financial aids for necessary expenses I might stumble upon even if I have an impressionable grade to present. I would really love to have my education internationally, but these thoughts that I am quite sure had come naturally make me spiral into overthinking such as what is to come, (I will be young and alone — not to mention not financially secured in a foreign land) without even trying.
The thing is, should I pursue it still? My parents were very supportive of it. However, I do procrastinate in making a move towards my goals. I don’t want to have this response. This anxiety have been difficult to deal with. Does my aspirations seems I am trying to bite something more than I can chew?
Your input will be invaluable for me. I hope you are having a great day.
Hi love! Thank you so much for your kind words and ongoing support. I'm so glad to hear my blog has been helpful/valuable for you <3
I think you should definitely go for it and seek out your options. My personal belief is that: If your dreams and aspirations don't scare you a bit, you're not dreaming big enough.
Personally, I would focus on two major areas: Research the options available regarding universities, scholarships, internships/apprenticeships, housing arrangements, etc. in the countries/regions and areas of interest you are looking to immerse yourself in. Make shortlists of all of these opportunities. Then, list out all of the paperwork you will need to make these options feasible.
Reach out to the admissions coordinators at these programs after looking up their admissions requirements/information on the institution, and your program(s) of interest. Share a brief overview of your situation (rising senior/finishing your secondary education from your country and why you're looking into their program based on your interest/demonstrated academic abilities/interest in whichever fields/subjects) to confirm eligibility requirements and see if you can score an informational interview. With this information all spelled out, go to your school counselor and parents with essentially a checklist of what you need – from the legal paperwork to transcripts, scholarship information, courses/testing requirements to take your senior year, etc.
Use all of these shortlists and checklists as your "to-do" lists. Commit to completing one action item every day or on set days of the week (let's say Monday-Friday). So, one day you short-list universities, the next you shortlist scholarship opportunities, the next you send emails to admissions coordinators at your top 3 programs/your school counselor, the next you fill out one of your required forms or give yourself an hour or two to fill out as many as you can. If you need your parents, schedule a time like an at-home appointment to meet with them to get this paperwork done. It will help eliminate the unnecessary logistics and mental energy spent focusing on getting this top-priority documentation done.
Hope this helps xx

I know I’m part of a pretty young fandom, so just in case any of you didn’t know:
hello! I am a college and career counselor! This is my job! I go to a high school every day to help kids with ANY and all of these pathways, because any pathway that works for you is the right one for you! Here are some things I find myself repeating to my students.
If you want to go to college but you think you can’t go to college: you can! The American education system is very insular; if you are an immigrant, have immigrant parents, or just are first gen, it’s incredibly hard to know where to start. Ask your counselors for help, and check out these resources here to get started:
Your SATs/ACTs don’t have to matter! Most schools don’t require them anymore. Here is a list of colleges that do. I promise you if you don’t send them in, colleges don’t give a shit.
Community college is free if you live in these states.
State vs Private Schools? Applying to private and state schools is beneficial, because while state schools are cheaper, private schools have more money to offer you in scholarships. See who offers you the best deal.
Where do I apply for scholarships?? These are the legitimate scholarship websites we recommend to students: bold.org, niche.com, fastweb.com, goingmerry.com
Do you want to go to community college to transfer to a four year college? The UCs, Massachusetts, and New York all offer guaranteed transfer to state schools. Look for similar options at your local community college, and see if they have direct programs.
Community college is an incredibly useful tool, but did you know what else they offer? Tech and trade programs!! (Use this Mass community college to see the kinds of programs offered). Ultrasound tech, radiological tech, automotive trades, dental assistant programs, etc; these are all specialized skills you can learn that make you an invaluable worker. There are many more jobs out there than you know of, and some require a different type of school. For example, you can work in the healthcare field without being a doctor or a nurse.
State governments often offer paid apprenticeship programs for trade work! Check your local government website for things like electricians and HVAC tech, which are pretty well paid jobs in high demand.
Being undecided on your major is totally fine. College is for finding yourself! This percentage of students change majors, or transfer colleges.
Once you have been at your school for a year, you’ll have forgotten about your acceptances and rejections to any other schools, I promise. Once you are there, it doesn’t matter anymore, because there is a school that fits for everyone.
Financial aid websites are incredibly daunting. Remember, to fill out the CSS profile (only for select private schools, find that list here) or the FAFSA (required for every school) you will need you and your parents/guardians W2s, 1040s, social security numbers (your parents don’t need a social security number to fill out the FAFSA!), and any other financial documents you may have. Specific lists here and here.
I am undocumented. What are my college options? Ask colleges their financial aid options for undocumented students! Don’t be nervous to be open with a school (and your counseling team) about your documentation status, they legally cannot disclose that information! Of course, this is a very personal thing, so do what makes you comfortable, but schools cannot give you options if they don’t know your situation. There are MANY different kinds of documentation, so make sure you know the specifics of yours, and any pathways to citizenship open to you. Here are some schools that cover 100% of need for undocumented students. (I would add Holy Cross to that list, they give several scholarships that cover 100% tuition a year for undocumented students. Check your local private colleges to see if they offer any programs like that). Here are states with free community college programs that apply for undocumented state residents: California, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maine (DACA only), Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington. Also, check out thedream.us for information on your options in your state, and scholarship options specific to undocumented and DACA students.
every year we have to say it
#I’m happy to answer any quick questions people have#but I am a mass/new englander so that is where the majority of my expertise lies#also this is clearly usamerican coded#i just learned today that ireland doesn't have free college so#we're all in this together i guess#but anyways have this i guess#high school#college#university#school#trade school#community college#melissa replies#melissa bullshit

Your Guide to NATS Apprenticeships and NAPS Compliance Services
Navigating the world of apprenticeships and compliance can be overwhelming. For businesses looking to implement apprenticeship programs, understanding the NATS Apprenticeships and the NAPS Scheme National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme is crucial. Additionally, adhering to establishment compliance services ensures your business stays aligned with legal requirements. This guide will walk you through both apprenticeships and compliance to help you understand their importance for your company.
What Are NATS Apprenticeships?
NATS Apprenticeships are part of a government initiative aimed at improving the skills and employment prospects of young people. The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) offers on-the-job training that allows apprentices to gain practical skills while working. Employers benefit by nurturing skilled employees tailored to their business needs.
The scheme encourages companies to hire apprentices while reducing the costs of employee training. Additionally, apprentices receive a stipend, and companies receive financial support through government subsidies. Participating in NATS Apprenticeships ensures businesses are investing in future growth while contributing to the country’s workforce development.
How the NAPS Scheme (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme) Works
The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) is another government initiative designed to boost the participation of companies in apprenticeship training programs. NAPS works hand in hand with NATS to further encourage businesses to hire and train apprentices. The goal is to build a strong, skilled workforce while promoting inclusive economic growth.
One of the primary advantages of NAPS is that it offers financial incentives to employers. These incentives reduce the financial burden of training and ensure that companies have access to a pool of trained professionals. Additionally, the NAPS scheme national apprenticeship promotion scheme provides comprehensive support, including guidelines and resources for companies looking to integrate apprenticeships into their operations.
Benefits of Implementing Apprenticeship Programs
Apprenticeships are an excellent way for businesses to attract and retain talent. By offering NATS Apprenticeships or participating in the NAPS scheme national apprenticeship promotion scheme, companies can tap into a pool of motivated, eager-to-learn individuals.
Apprenticeships also foster loyalty. Many apprentices stay with the companies that trained them, as they feel more engaged and invested in the organization’s success. Additionally, businesses benefit from having employees who understand their operations thoroughly.
Furthermore, hiring apprentices can be cost-effective. Government subsidies and financial incentives reduce the overall cost of training. Over time, companies can create a pipeline of skilled workers who are well-prepared for full-time roles.
The Role of Establishment Compliance Services in Apprenticeships
While apprenticeships offer many benefits, they come with regulatory requirements. Businesses must adhere to specific guidelines set by the government. This is where establishment compliance services come in. Establishment compliance ensures that your company meets all legal obligations related to apprenticeships.
Compliance covers areas such as employment contracts, working conditions, safety regulations, and wages. Companies that fail to comply with these standards may face penalties, legal issues, or damage to their reputation. Therefore, it’s essential to ensure that your apprenticeship programs align with government policies and industry standards.
Using establishment compliance services can help your business navigate these regulations seamlessly. Compliance professionals stay updated on the latest legal requirements, ensuring your company remains in good standing.
Why Establishment Compliance Is Essential for Businesses
establishment compliance services are not just about following rules; it’s about creating a safe, fair, and efficient work environment. By adhering to compliance standards, businesses protect themselves from legal challenges and demonstrate their commitment to ethical practices.
Establishment compliance services often cover areas such as labor laws, health and safety regulations, tax laws, and workplace standards. For companies involved in apprenticeships, these services ensure that the apprentice’s rights are respected and that the company meets its obligations under the NATS Apprenticeships and NAPS scheme.
Moreover, compliance can affect a company’s reputation. Businesses that consistently meet compliance standards are seen as responsible and trustworthy. This can help attract clients, customers, and potential employees.
Key Components of Establishment Compliance
Establishment compliance encompasses various aspects that businesses must address. These include:
Labor Laws and Employment Contracts
Employers must adhere to labor laws that govern working hours, wages, and employment conditions. Apprentices must be offered contracts that clearly define their roles, responsibilities, and rights. Non-compliance in these areas can lead to legal issues.
Health and Safety Regulations
Ensuring a safe working environment is crucial, especially for apprentices who may be new to the field. Businesses must comply with health and safety laws to minimize workplace accidents and hazards. Establishment compliance services help companies stay up-to-date on these regulations.
Tax and Wage Compliance
Establishment compliance services ensure that companies adhere to tax regulations, including payroll taxes and other financial obligations. This is especially important when hiring apprentices, as businesses must ensure they meet wage requirements and properly handle stipend payments.
Record Keeping and Audits
Accurate record-keeping is an essential part of compliance. Companies must maintain records related to apprenticeships, such as contracts, attendance, and training completion. Regular audits can help ensure that all compliance requirements are being met.
Establishment Compliance and Long-Term Business Success
Investing in establishment compliance services is not just a legal necessity; it’s also a smart business strategy. Companies that adhere to compliance standards are better equipped to manage risks, avoid legal issues, and build a positive reputation. Moreover, apprentices who train in a compliant, ethical environment are more likely to stay with the company long-term.
Establishment compliance also fosters transparency and accountability. When employees know that their workplace adheres to legal and ethical standards, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated. This can lead to higher productivity and improved overall performance.
How to Ensure Compliance in Apprenticeship Programs
Ensuring compliance with NATS Apprenticeships and the NAPS scheme national apprenticeship promotion scheme involves several key steps. First, companies should familiarize themselves with the requirements set by the government. These guidelines are readily available and provide detailed information on how to implement apprenticeship programs.
Second, businesses should consider using establishment compliance services. These services offer expert guidance on navigating the complex legal landscape surrounding apprenticeships. They can also assist with tasks such as contract drafting, record keeping, and audits.
Finally, companies should invest in regular training for their HR and legal teams. Establishment compliance is an evolving field, and staying updated on changes in labor laws, safety regulations, and apprenticeship policies is crucial.
Overcoming Challenges in Compliance and Apprenticeships
While compliance is essential, it can sometimes be challenging for businesses to manage. Establishment compliance services can alleviate some of these difficulties by offering expert assistance. However, businesses must remain proactive in addressing potential compliance issues before they arise.
One common challenge is keeping up with changing regulations. Labor laws, wage requirements, and tax obligations can change over time, making it difficult for companies to stay compliant. Regular audits and consultations with compliance experts can help mitigate this risk.
Another challenge is ensuring that apprentices are properly integrated into the workplace. Apprentices may require additional supervision, training, and support to succeed. Establishing clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations can help ensure a smooth apprenticeship experience.
Conclusion
NATS Apprenticeships and the NAPS scheme national apprenticeship promotion scheme offer valuable opportunities for businesses to develop a skilled workforce. However, it’s essential to ensure that these programs comply with government regulations. Establishment compliance services play a critical role in ensuring that businesses meet their legal obligations while benefiting from apprenticeship programs.
