fine but dull morning wrote the whole of the last page till now 9 10/.. at which hour F61 ½° and breakfast and read a little of the guide de Moscou and off to Arkhangelsky at 10 ¾ - our 4 horses abreast in preparation for the partly bad road and a less good carriage than the one we have in town – pass Petrovskai [Petrovsky] and at 11 25/.. turn left and leave the highroad (to St. Petersburg) – at 11 25/.. bridge over little piece of water and pretty village good church and handsome country house and gardens – high spruce fir and lime hedges – sandy road since leaving the highroad – at 12 another village and good church – the village busy with numberless carts laden with wood (birch and a little oak), charcoal, and hay, all apparently bound for Moscow – large [?] of cattle (much dark coloured among it) pasturing at a distance (left) wide pasture land down to the river, and many horses near right pasturing the green corn which is now everywhere eaten close – at 12 10/.. a little village – at 12 20/.. alighted to walk up the little sandy hill and walked 10 minutes (some distance beyond the top of the little hill) till 12 ½ on alighting pass right the road to Riga – our road today a post road – stations, and post houses to be had I think at the village we came to at 12 (vide line 6 of this page) – village and picturesque good church at 12 40/.. – at 12 55/.. stop a minute or 2 in going uphill to mend one of our traces – very sandy road – village at 12 57/.. I suppose of Arkhangelsky – scattered and picturesque – drove along some line avenues, and arrived at the chateau at 1 10/.. – I was driven into the court – the great doors not now appeared opened often and some trouble to make give way – alighted at 1 ¼ on the steps of the great hall or vestibule – handsome chateau – 2 suits of rooms rez de chaussée the hall or vestibule forming the handsome centre of one suite, and a pillared, circular, lofty, galleried round at the top, handsome saloon forming the centre of the other suite – the upper story nearly every room occupied by bookcases – But our disappointment great to find that all the best pictures and statues were gone to the princes’ new house in the Great Moskoe at St. Petersburg – nothing left behind worth a journey of 17 versts to see – the books all locked up and we saw nothing very particularly tho’ many good works chiefly French – and several valuable botanical English works – A- interested in reading the titles of them .:. in the palace till 2 ½ - then in the grounds – to the theatre large and handsome enough – would be a nice, good one in a town – pit and boxes enough for a numerous audience –à quoi bon here? sauntered about the grounds formed gravel walks and statues in front of the house – and 2 columns – obelisks – commemorating the honour done to prince ........... by Alexander 1 dining with him in August 1816 and by the present emperor and empress and the grand duke Michael and prince Charles of Prussia dining with him in September 1826 – heaps of leaves (birch) swept up – for bedding for the cows – neat church – the temple of Appollo [Apollo] not much – all wants paint and plaster looks neglected tho’ the grounds are nicely kept – at last got to the temple called the Mecca a model of the celebrated mosque at Mecca – of wood unpainted and weathered – there at 3 20/.. a square building 2 stories high – an arcaded verandah [veranda] round the rez de chaussée, and a balcony round the 1er – hipped roof, and a cupola on the top of what would otherwise have been the apex of the roof – the verandah [veranda] = 3 arcades and two halves of an arcade on each side, the helves being at the corners, and

finishing up at each corner to a tall round minaret, about 1/3 higher than the square of the building – something higher I think than the top of the cupola – a little out of repair – but balustrade round twice at about 1/3 and 2/3 of the height so that the mollah might give his call from the higher or the lower – the minaret crowned by an extinguisher (conical cap) – 3 or 4 (3 I think) windows on each side above and below - above and perhaps topped below – on one side (north i.e. up the river) a square tower 2 stories high very near the temple and communicating by a gallery with the balcony round the temple – all this was interesting as being said to be an exact model of the Kaaba [Kaʿba] at Mecca – it stands prettily on the steep sand bank over the river (right bank) – about as good, not better than the cellar where it is smallest between Salterhebble and Elland – see from here the Orangerie just over the winding river between placed than the chateau from which no view of it – another gentlemans’ house comte ------ at a little distance (about a mile?) down the river backed by a patch of dark fir – scattered patches park like and pretty of dark fir, and long circular reach of hill closes in the distance – corn land, and grass and birch-brushwood – scene here not unlike plateau of wold scenery about Langton – narrow strip of sandy strand along each side the river – shallowish – a long line of floating wood in it – a little lower down the stream – A- sketched the temple till now 3 25/.. – the prince has 25000 serfs of whom 4,000 here Sherémétieff [Cheremetieff] has 150,000 serfs – the carriage met us in the village and we were off home again at 3 35/.. – it had already begun to drizzle a little and in about an hour it became damp and thick and disagreeable – alighted for a moment at a thrashing place at the end of the village – the trashed [?] heaped up in little stacks – several odd sort of covered in houses or sheds – Leopold said they were the places where the people dried their corn – before or after thrashing? Inquire into this – at 4 55/.. back at the village we were at at 12 this morning – at 5 10/.. at the highroad again – home at 5 50/.. – dressed – dinner at about 6 ¼ - tea at 8 ½ - before and after read a little of the guide de Moscou and had Grotza and had written so far at 11 35/.. at which hour F63° - tolerably clear from about 11a.m. till after 3p.m. – finish day for the time of year – a little small drizzling rain from about 4p.m. but not much to wet anybody tho’ the people had their umbrellas’ up as we drove into the town this evening – Glad of our drive today into the country – the river near right 2 or 3 times – the country people look well and contented and the country as if it produced as much as such sandy soil can produce –

Hello Santa! I am doing well today, how are you? Excellent questions yet again! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

1.) My favorite thing about the holidays is my family! My mom and I are very close, and we both try to make the most of every special occasion, especially Christmas. I love the traditions we share leading up to Christmas, I love how my mom still wakes me up Christmas morning with a cup of peppermint hot cocoa to sip while we read the story of Jesus’ birth. It’s just nice, and even as the years have gone by and things have changed and I’ve grown older, there are little moments throughout where I’ll just be like “it’s Christmas time, and I’m with the people I love!”

2.) Oooh, good question Santa! Ok...so, I was going to say the Appollo’s Lyre chapter (you know the “scene” that scene contains the entire history of Christine’s relationship with the opera ghost, lol) BUT THEN! I remembered my actual favorite, which is the forehead kissing at the end of the book. I love it so much.

3.) Christine’s kindness! She is an excellent character, quietly strong and brave. She is manipulated throughout the story at a time when she is at her weakest, her most vulnerable, and is brought even lower when her Angel of Music, her last tie to her father, turns out to be a sham. She is written with a beautiful depth, shown to be unsure, afraid, weak, but with a strength of character ( i.e. mistress of her own actions), willing to stand her ground when she thinks she is protecting those she loves.

There are a few short lines in the book during Christine and Raoul’s fake engagement, where she is described as a sort of queen of the theater, becuase she seeks out the oldest workers and spends time with them and listens to their stories, she gives treats to the young ballet girls. Carlotta may be the diva, but Christine has won many of their hearts by being kind, by showing attention and care to those around her. And she does this while her world is falling down around her.

This could have easily been a monster story, but because Christine pities Erik, so do we. Her relationship with him is complicated. She longs to be free, but she does not want to hurt a man who has already been hurt so much. At the same time, she wants to protect the man she does love. She is a girl in her early twenties, nearly alone in the world, slowly being drawn into a life of danger and fear, a life she has no control over, and she responds by a kiss on the forehead. I can’t get over it.

4.) I love many things, haha. I love a well-told story, and I consume a lot of media to find them. PotO is pretty much the only fandom I’m active in, but I’m just gonna list some stories that made me go “!!!!!” when I first encountered them:

Trước đó, việc Apollo 11 đã đưa con người lần đầu tiên đặt chân lên Mặt trăng đã làm nức lòng nhân dân Mỹ và thế giới, rồi mấy tháng sau Apollo 12 lại thành công trong nhiệm vụ tương tự, khiến cả nước Mỹ như sống trong bầu không khí hân hoan kéo dài. Trong bầu không khí phấn khởi ấy vài tháng sau đó, Appollo 13 được phóng lên không gian vào lúc 13h 11/4/1970. Sự cố nguy hiểm Mọi chuyện vẫn suôn sẻ khi Apollo 13 vào quỹ đạo quanh Trái đất, rồi tên lửa Saturn V gia tốc lần cuối trước khi tách rời để quỹ đạo Apollo 13 dãn rộng ra hướng đến Mặt trăng. Từ đấy Apollo 13 gồm khoang điều khiển chính (CM hay Control Module) [có tên là Odyssey] kèm khoang dịch vụ (SM hay Service Module), cùng khoang đổ bộ Mặt trăng (LM hay Lunar Module) [có tên là Aquarius hay Bảo bình] lặng lẽ theo quán tính bay đến chị Hằng. Thời điểm 55 giờ 46 phút tính từ xuất phát, phi hành đoàn 3 người đã hoàn thành chương trình truyền hình. Chín phút sau đó, hay giờ thứ 56, hoặc 21 giờ ngày 13/4/1970, một tiếng nổ mạnh và làm rung chuyển cả tàu Apollo 13!

Liên lạc giữa tàu Apollo 13 với Trung tâm điều khiển chuyến bay ở Houston từ lúc ấy khẩn trương hơn. Phi hành đoàn nhanh chóng nhận ra trên các đồng hồ báo: bình oxy trên khoang dịch vụ đi kèm khoang điều khiển chính bị nổ và đang thất thoát oxy ra không gian, Lệnh khẩn cấp từ Houston: Phi hành đoàn vào gấp khoang đổ bộ Mặt trăng, đóng kín cửa giữa 2 khoang. Lúc ấy Apollo 13 đã cách Trái đất 200.000 km và đang hướng đến Mặt trăng, xem như mới đi nửa đường đến Mặt trăng!

Nhiệm vụ đáp xuống Mặt trăng của Apollo 13 đương nhiên bị hủy bỏ. Houston rối rắm trong vận dụng các khả năng để cứu 3 phi hành gia trở lại Trái đất an toàn: Chuyện nầy có ghi công Frances Northcutt lúc ấy cô chỉ mới 25 tuổi, cùng với nhóm chuyên gia kỹ thuật hàng đầu của NASA cô đã vạch nên phương án tối ưu cùng đường bay sắp tới của con tàu. Apollo phải bay tiếp đến Mặt trăng, lọt nhẹ vào quỹ đạo quanh Mặt trăng, sau khi quay nửa vòng, phi thuyền phải gia tốc để hướng về Trái đất. Tổng thời gian dự tính cần 90 giờ.

Cuộc sống khắc khổ trong khoang đổ bộ Trên khoang đổ bộ có chứa oxy đủ cho 3 người thở trong 40 giờ, số oxy thiếu được tìm kiếm quanh quẩn: có mấy bình oxy cứu hộ trong khoang nhỏ cứu hộ khẩn cấp khi Saturn V khai hỏa, mấy bình để mang khi đi trên Mặt trăng… hy vọng đủ dùng! Năng lượng điện là vấn đề rất đáng quan tâm: Điện chỉ đủ dùng trong một ngày khi khoang đổ bộ đáp xuống Mặt trăng, vậy nên trừ liên lạc là điều cần thiết, phải tắt tất cả các máy còn lại, kể cả máy sưởi. Từ đó nhóm phi hành gia sống trong môi trường giá lạnh. Nước và thức ăn khi 3 phi hành gia bò từ khoang điều khiển chính sang khoang đổ bộ có khều thêm một ít, nhưng tổng cọng lượng thức ăn và nước có cả trong khoang đổ bộ thiếu trầm trọng. Vậy là từ giờ phút đó, việc ăn phải tiết giảm đến mức tối đa, 4 ngày sắp tới ăn đói cũng có thể chịu được, nhưng thiếu nước mới ghê: mỗi ngày mỗi người uống chưa được 200 ml, nghĩa là chỉ 1 cốc mỗi ngày. Cả nhóm khát khô cổ cho đến khi được cứu. Trung bình mỗi người sụt 10 kg! Hơi thở ra của nhóm làm tăng lượng CO2 trong khoang, nhóm lại phải chịu đựng thở khó nhọc vì các bình khử CO2 cũng có hạn. Sau đó nhóm phải cực nhọc câu các hộp khử từ khoang chính.

Điều chỉnh đường bay hướng về Trái đất Đã hơn 10 tiếng trôi qua từ sau vụ nổ bình oxy, Apollo 13 càng lao nhanh về mặt trăng và sắp vào quỹ đạo của nó trong vài giờ tới. May mà nhiệm vụ tinh chỉnh đường bay để phi thuyền lọt vào quỹ đạo quanh Mặt trăng được thực hiện từ giờ thứ 30. Nếu không có sự điều chỉnh nầy, thay vì Apollo 13 vào quỹ đạo quanh Mặt trăng, nó có thể đâm thẳng góc vào Mặt trăng và tan xác, hoặc nó có thể bay sượt ngang Mặt trăng, và phi thuyền vĩnh viễn quay quanh Trái đất với quỹ đạo elip rộng, mãi mãi bay trong không gian và cái chết của phi hành đoàn sẽ đến từ từ nhưng thảm khốc không kém!

Trung tâm dưới đất đã tính toán, đến phút đó khi Apollo 13 vòng qua phía bên kia Mặt trăng, tên lửa chỉ cần phun 5 phút là đủ gia tốc để Apollo 13 từ giã Mặt trăng trở lại Trái đất. Nhưng thực tế cần kiểm định, mà khoang đổ bộ được thiết kế không có nhiệm vụ nầy! Vậy nên thông qua kính viễn vọng trên khoang, Chỉ huy Jim Lovell được yêu cầu thấy Mặt trời mới đúng hướng của con tàu. May mắn, Jim Lovell đã xác nhận Mặt trời, tên lửa khai hỏa đúng thời điểm, và bây giờ từ giờ thứ 73, Apollo 13 trực chỉ Trái đất!

Và như vậy, phi hành đoàn vẫn tiếp tục cuộc sống quá khắc khổ trong 70 giờ của chặng đường còn lại, nhịn đói nhịn khác, lại thức trắng vì không thể ngủ được do quá lạnh. Cả 3 cùng nhau đối mặt, động viên nhau bên cạnh tiếng xì xì của liên lạc vô tuyến. Chính tiếng xì xì như là động lực nhắc nhở họ rằng đất mẹ vẫn cùng ở bên, hơn nữa ngày gần.

Tiếp đất thành công Bốn giờ trước khi tiếp đất, các phi hành gia lại bò qua khoang điều khiển chính, vì khoang nầy có thiết kế tấm chắn nhiệt ở mũi tàu và dù dùng cho việc hạ cánh. Tái khởi động khoang điều khiển với nguồn điện tốt, cả ba sống nhờ oxy mang theo từ khoang đổ bộ. Khoang chính vứt bỏ khoang đổ bộ và lao nhanh vào tầng khí quyển trái đất, mọi chuyện diễn ra đúng theo kế hoạch: tấm chắn bị đốt nóng rồi dù kịp bung trên Thái Bình Dương gần Samoa.

Tuy nhiệm vụ của Apollo 13 thất bại, nhưng cả chuyến hành trình lại là sự thành công hơn mong đợi: Trong sự cố sống chết của Apollo 13, Trung tâm mặt đất đã tính toán chính xác phương án trở về, phi hành đoàn đã dũng cảm vượt qua gian nguy, chịu đựng khắc khổ quá mức để cuối cùng, phi hành đoàn đáp an toàn về Trái đất. South America

TEATRO RIVAL, RIO DE JANIERO 1/12/16

A long trip via Atlanta gets us into Rio the day of the gig, so it is going to be tough, especially for the lads.

Strange being here the same time as New Odour. I notice in interviews that Gillian says she misses me?…..Aah bless! And Steve cracked on he didn’t even know we were here with The Light at the same time…humh? I find both those statements impossible to believe for many, many reasons.

The Brazilian Press have turned it into a bit of an Us vs Them, which could turn out to be quite interesting. In Chile we are actually playing at the same theatre three days apart….Weird!

Weirder still, we split up after The South American Tour in 2006. Ten years ago nearly to the day (and have been at each other’s throats ever since;) God that takes some stamina that doesn’t it? I cannot believe it myself, very New Order.

Anyway we are staying in Copacabana right on the beach and it is glorious. We have played this club before and it is a bit rough and ready but has a great atmosphere. As I arrive I remember one other thing….It is bloody hot! Poor Old Leadfoot is worn out. The gig goes great (Sold Out again!) and the audience are wonderful, I sign a million things and do a thousand photos, before crawling back to bed;)

BAR OPINIAO, PORTE ALLEGRE 3/12/16

A much-needed night off, here on the 2nd recharges our batteries. The Hotel surprise me with a lovely welcoming gift. How sweet, tasted lovely too.

This is getting tough for me….Must be my age? It really does get harder every year;( Still I manage the gym again, which is nice and makes me feel a lot better. The gig looms large and this is a big place (Sold Out;) and strangely me and Pottsy have a row??? Not over much, fold-back actually;(…It is years since we’ve had one and thankfully it is over quickly. I think we are all frazzled to be honest! It makes you very cranky these late nights and early mornings, and being an old bloke, that’s the worst one. God knows how I handled it when I was drinking etc., Well, I just answered that question really;) I had actually forgotten what it was like to be mad at some one on tour! Me and Jack bang heads a few times but it’s never over anything disastrous. I come up with a new motto ‘Don’t moan….Phone!’ which everyone loves throwing back in my face as soon as I start moaning…..typical.

Ends up being a great gig, crackling with energy. The audience goes nuts for both sets and we struggle to get out with the amount of people clustered round the van. ‘Is this what it was like for The Beatles?’ asks Pottsy.

I think it was worse for them mate, a little.

CINE JOIA, SAO PAOLO 6/12/16

Short flight brings us to Sao, and we have two nights off. Brilliant!

Early on the first night we get a great curry from this really dodgy looking place in the middle of Sao Paolo (Google we love you x). On the way home it starts to rain and one of the gutters bursts, but not with water, with cockroaches!!! An army of them pour out and scare Phil to death (he’d be no good in I’m a celebrity get me out of here). I regale the boys with tales of my cockroach days in Ordsall in Salford. They are suitably impressed/disgusted. We all get sunburnt rotten the next day and finish off with a typical Brazilian Barbecue meal.

Amazing to think how in the old days we would go to loads of these and not eat at all! The Promoters, who always took you, must have thought we were mad. But those days are thankfully gone. Nice early night for me, I was feeling a bit weird to be honest. I think I’m getting a cold again. Leadfoot’s got one and hard as I try to stay away from him, it is impossible with his magnetic personality. The gig day dawns and I still feel rough but steel myself and go to the gym, which works….I feel much better….Hooray! Before I know it my old mate Heitor picks me up and after a Japanese meal in Japantown, Sao Paolo. (Turns out Sao Paolo, has the largest Japanese population of any city in the world after Tokyo, go figure?) My other old friend and our Promoter Giuli, drives us to the gig. Now this gig’s stage is the highest I have ever seen, even higher than The Glasgow Appollo. So the audience are way below. A great very young crowd goes mad from start to finish. We play great. It is hotter than hell…again. One wonderful moment when this old geezer climbs up on the stage and goes to crowd surf off during Warsaw, but the crowd just part and won’t support him and he has to jump down going flying arse over tit, bet he’s aching today;)

We play Atmosphere for the Brazilian team lost in the air crash. I watched the funeral in Port Allegre, and it reminded me of Princess Diana’s funeral in England. It was very moving and the footballers were so young. It seems to have affected all the Brazilian people very much. As I sing I see many people in the audience crying one girl in particular makes me choke up too and I have to really pull myself together to get the words out. I think it was because Heitor my friend, a doctor, was a volunteer in Columbia to bring the players back home to Brazil. He was telling me all about the scene and what had happened, a shocking waste of life because of one man’s greed.

A real tragedy.

We give them mercy with Love W. T. U. A. and the ‘Sold Out’ house goes bonkers! Wonder how we’ll fare in the comparison stakes eh world? We shall have to wait and see won't we……Off to Chile very early tomorrow.

TEATRO CAUPOLICAN, SANTIAGO, CHILE.

God we are knackered. Bed at 2.30a.m. and up at 5.45a.m. for our trip. I am in shock. It’s still dark, but every one is very happy after such a great gig last night. At the airport it takes over two hours to check the equipment in and get to Departures, then a 4hr 45min flight, then 1 hour in immigration and an hour and a half in Baggage to get the equipment out. It seems it has been stored until tomorrow for some reason? We get to our bus, and I must admit it has seen better years, probably around 1960 I reckon. Our greeters seem a bit sheepish and very quiet, almost avoiding eye contact and certainly no conversation. By the time we arrive at the Hotel there is no time to rest and the lads go straight to the sound-check. I crash out (you are allowed if your over 60) and I am just nodding off when all the phone start, almost all at once. At first I thought it was someone pissing around. Then I realise not only are the lads phoning me but also my manager. I finally get the very bad news that the Promoter has not sorted out the advertising for the gig. He had billed it as ‘New Order’ in a cheap attempt, I presume, to get sales off ‘The Others’. He had been warned about their removal and facing legal action, so I had no option but to pull the gig.

I am devastated. This gig in particular was the one I was looking forward to;(

Three days after them? same venue? it was the perfect opportunity to show our worth. We had been checking with this Promoter a lot, to make sure the show could go ahead, I am not daft. This was a problem, even though our gig was booked 4 months before they announced theirs ….Boo… Hiss(hey it is pantomime season;). Right up until the last minute the Promoter had assured us there would be no problems. He is an idiot.

After doing so well in Brazil to be treated like this here was terrible. We have played here twice before…. both sold-out, why this promoter acted like this I do not know.

I can only apologise to all our fans and ‘The Others’ and say when we come back again it will not be with him.

A welcome early night gets us ready for more obscene travelling.

NICETO CLUB, BUENOS ARIES.

Up at 6.30a.m for our flight to the beautiful place that is Buenos Aries, the Paris of the south. A gorgeous city…… but we are tired, very tired. Thankfully gig wise we are back to normal, with another ‘Sell Out’ and what a gig it is! An absolutely bonkers reception for both sets! I am amazed! It is so welcome after the shenanigins of yesterday.

B.A. I LOVE YOU! All thoughts of that awful night over 10 years ago are forgotten and forgiven…..You made an old man very, very happy. It is times like this that make all the effort worthwhile. Crawl to bed.

Jack tells me we have done 49 since Glasgow….WOW! What an achievement. My wife, dog and daughters have forgotten me but it was almost worth it….ha ha! Weird hotel this one, great pool and gym, and a strange 60’s style casino, all of which I have to ignore because of my cold, now in full bloom. The gig is nice and there is always a weird feeling at the end, no matter where you are or ‘who’ you are with. Tonight is no different. The gig goes great and we give Andy Poole, our ex-keyboard player a great send off. He is leaving us for pastures new, sadly.

WHO PUT THE BOOT IN

ALEX HARVEY AND LITTLE FEAT JOIN THEM ON SOCCER SUPERGIGS THE WHO, Alex Harvey, Little Feat: that is the phenomenal top line of the heaviest package to hit the road in Britain in years.

These three bands plus the Outlaws, making their UK debut, and Streetwalkers have been assembled by promoter Harvey Goldsmith to play three football grounds to a total of 115,000 people.

The venues and dates are: Charlton Athletic FC, The Valley, London SE7, May 31; Celtic FC, Celtic Park, Glasgow G21, June 5; Swansea City FC, Vetch Field, Swansea, June 12, all shows starting at 2.00 pm, gates open at 12 noon.

The working title for the whole enterprise is ‘Who Put The Boot In’ and it is the realisation of Pete Townshend’s dream of playing ‘rock for everyone’ which he first tried, not entirely to his satisfaction, with the one show at Charlton in May, ’74.

On a grand scale it’s ‘the Who and friends’ as they are all bands the Who rate highly.

All tickets cost £4 each and are available by POSTAL application immediately from GP Productions, PO Box 4TL, London W1A 4OL. Application should be marked London, Glasgow or Swansea to assist sorting and postal orders preferable to cheques, say the organisers.

Tickets are available by PERSONAL application only from the following locations from April 12: Virgin Records, Union Street, Swansea. Derick Records, Oxford Street, Swansea. Derick records, Station Road, Port Talbot. Appollo, Glasgow. Shuffles, Sauchniehall Street, Glasgow.

Harvey Goldsmith has arranged special trains to the gigs through British Rail as well as coaches and special arrangements with the local transport authorities.

An unusual feature designed to prevent rip-offs is that the catering will be completely controlled by the promoters rather than sub-contracted.

To get the elaborate staging and all the bands’ equipment on the road they will be using eight articulated 40-foot trucks. The operation will employ 2,000 people in security/clearance/turnstiles/crews.

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band have added a date to their British tour before the Who gigs. They will now play Edinburgh Odeon on Saturday May 29 as well as the previous night.

AISLES OF MILES JOHN MILES’S first headlining tour, forecast in Sounds last week, has now been fixed and will take in major venues in eight cities.

He is also being lined up for a Mike Mansfield TV special to be recorded in May for broadcast in July or August.

Tour dates are: Glasgow Apollo May 30, Newcastle City Hall 31, Manchester Palace Theatre June 1, Liverpool Empire 2, Birmingham Town Hall 3, Bristol Hippodrome 4, London Hammersmith Odeon 6, Southampton Gaumont 7.

BILLY AND WILLY IN COUNTRY DOUBLE BILLY SWAN and Willie Nelson are to double-head a single British gig during their European tour later this month.

The play the London New Victoria on April 23, tickets £2.50, £2 and £1.50 available from the box office now.

Nelson has just released in Britain the single that won him the US Grammy for ‘Best Country Male Vocal Performance’ last year titled ‘Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain’. Reports of any other gigs in the UK for Nelson this time round should be ignored CBS say.

STONES: THREE MORE SHOWS A million people want to see ’em

THE ROLLING STONES are to play three extra nights at Earls Court but there is no way they could meet the demand for tickets to see them – which now amounts to a MILLION applications.

They will now play May 25, 26 and 27 which will put about 50,000 more seats into the ballot but there is no point in sending further applications as these will simply help to take up some of the sackfuls of letters already bound to be disappointed.

The last count was 86 bags of mail containing an estimated million applications with most asking for any number of tickets up to the limit of six.

NEW BLOOD FOR ROLLERS NEW BAY CITY ROLLER Ian Mitchell, a 17-year-old Irishman, said that he was “over the moon” at joining the band.

He replaces Alan Longmuir who originally decided to quit the Rollers last year when he admitted that he was 27, not 22 as their publicity claimed. The he was dissuaded by the fans’ response but now he has decided that the pressures of touring are too much for him.

Ian comes from Downpatrick, County Down, and Rollers’ manager Tam Paton said he was spotted when playing in Belfast with a group called the Young Stars.

NEW NEW SEEKERS THE NEW SEEKERS have reformed, though not with the original line-up, and already scheduled their first concerts.

They broke up more than a year ago and lead singer Lynn Paul began a solo career which she is continuing. Marty Kristian and Paul Leyton recorded with Danny Finn who they have now brought into the New Seekers line-up.

Original member Eve Graham has returned from a spell in Australia and they are joined by Kathie Ann Ray as replacement for Lynn.

Their first concert is on May 16 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and a full tour is planned for later that month.

DAVID GOES SPANISH DAEVID ALLEN, the former leader of Gong, may be playing in the UK during the summer with a Spanish five-piece string band called Euterpe. He is living in Majorca at the moment.

COWMAN LEAVES JOHN GREAVES, bassist with Henry Cow, has left the band to record solo and the band are currently rehearsing with a new member whose name will be announced next week.

Greaves will be recording in New York with Peter Blegvad who used to be in Slap Happy.

MOON HEIST MOON are offering a reward, no questions asked, for the return of their van, an Orange mixer, and a Hi-Watt amp stolen after their gig at Dingwalls at the weekend.

They are about to go into the studio to record for CBS for the first time and, though they are buying a new PA, they had hoped to use their old equipment either in part-exchange or as a monitoring set-up.

ELKIE: PERONTINITIS? ELKIE BROOKS has cancelled her gig scheduled for the New Victoria this Saturday because of a severe illness. She is now recovering from an emergency operation for perontonitis.

She is said to have been offered the lead role in a new musical by ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ composers Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber about the life of Eva Peron, the first wife of the late Argentinian dictator Juan Peron. She would not have to start work on it until June.
