Do you think bugs dream? As in, if they sleep, do they dream? Are they even capable of it?

This really stumped me so I went looking for answers.

It seems that even though insects do indeed sleep, theirs is a bit different as they lack eyelids. Dreaming is a part of the REM cycle of sleeping so... Lack of eyelids means lack of REM means lack of dreams. Right?

Apparently they do dream! In a way.

I found this short article that briefly summarizes a study done in 2015 on bees.

Bees do appear to dream! I love that. I love bees.

I do hope that other insects and arthropods dream.

I like to imagine kelp crabs dream of their favourite kelp. Lobsters dream of their favourite depths. And butterflies dream of their favourite flowers.

His teeth still taste like blood.

He's locked inside the belly of the Octagon. He doesn't know when he got there, but whoever wrestled him into it was smarter than Ren. They realized the full moon's light didn't reach the wiring. They realized it would give him time to down wolfsbane and silver nitrate. It also gave him time to throw it all up in the corner. If Doc were here, he'd be scolding Ren on the fact that silver nitrate is still a toxin and a disinfectant, and he should still be taking it in small doses, no matter how badly he wants to poison the wolf.

He curls up, shuddering, against the wires and pipes that power the shop. He feels thin and gaunt. He hopes he has not had much to eat. He doesn't have a phone or communicator on him. He doesn't know the day. It doesn't matter what the day is. The moon's visible during the daytime, too. It may have only been a night. It may have been weeks. It's probably at least been days.

He throws up again, because wolfsbane is poisonous too.

Most things that can keep a wolf down are poisonous. Ren doesn't have to take them often. He's normally... controlled. A tamed wolf on the full moon. He has a pack to run with. He doesn't need to poison himself to keep the wolf at bay. He doesn't need to take silver nitrate like it's a medicine and not a reagent.

But none of this is making his teeth stop tasting like blood. His shirt is covered in it, too. His legs. His face, he thinks--he can't see his reflection in here. He wouldn't know. But it would have to be. There's so much blood on him.

He doesn't have a scratch on him.

The only thing that stops him, then, from taking more silver nitrate is that if he respawns from the poison damage, he'll respawn out under the moon. He'll respawn back out there. And then--

He shudders. He folds himself into a tighter ball against the belly of the Octagon. In a shaking voice, he cries out for Doc again. Doc has to be nearby. Doc has to be nearby. Because if he isn't--

No one answers. Ren doesn't know who locked him in here. He wonders if it was a struggle.

He's covered in blood.

It smells horribly good. Ren feels dizzy. He's gaunt. He's so hungry. He'll hold that to his chest. He's hungry and sick, not simply sick. If he weren't hungry--if he weren't hungry--

But he's not as hungry as he should be, if it's been days, and he's covered in blood, and he resists the urge to howl, a long, mournful thing. He doesn't want to howl, or bark, or anything else right now.

Instead he cries, a human thing, and holds onto it tightly while he waits for the pain in his stomach and the shudders over his skin and the grey stains where he'd grabbed the bottle and the vomiting to end, so he can take another dose, and force the wolf further down. Down enough to be safe.

Down enough that he didn't maul his friends to death.

Down enough that he can know if he did.

Down enough that he won't try to leave again, as he knows he will, as the moon shines outside, and as soon as someone tries to open the door to rescue him, letting that light back in.

I'm testing out new styles so yippee!! But have emo Lukas and silly zombie PAMA (they're my main two characters for the story. Mainly Lukas since it started with a frickin crackship)

Oh and Ivor. Can't forget how he was apparently turned into a horse cuz he insulted a witch on how bad they are with potions

I will not elaborate any more on this weird, love triangle Minecraft roleplay. PS, these are not the only characters. These are just my characters (except for yellow suspenders Jesse and cursed Axel. No one likes cursed Axel.)

I went out on the street to put out the rubbish and was met with THOUSANDS OF BEES IN THE AIR. THE AIR DARK WITH BEES. A BIBLICAL PLAGUE OF BEES.

Anyway they took a sharp right turn and for some reason swarmed in my garden. So I have made some Bee Association calls and hopefully someone will call me back to adopt this now super-chill swarm friend.

actually all the costumes in cql are so so good. not only are they (mostly) gorgeous from a visual standpoint, they also give hints and information about the characters and their arcs as they move through the story! I've seen some great posts analyzing the different outfits that certain characters wear throughout the show (I don't remember who posted them but there was definitely at least one for Jiang Cheng and I think Lan Xichen and Wei Wuxian ones as well) but even in smaller ways, like I was talking about in the tags of my last reblog, the costumers really paid attention to detail and considered what was right for each character at that moment in time.

More fanfic writers have got to start using "And Cast" character tags. (Or something similar)

I personally glaze completely over a huge Wall of Character Tags on AO3. I absorb nothing. I lose all concept of which characters are actually in the story in a meaningful way because Every Single Character is tagged. (And I know I cannot be the only person who does the same thing)

I hate looking for fics about a certain character and finding a thousand fics with them tagged but they're background, they're mentioned by other characters, maybe they have one line.

(If there was one thing I liked about fanfictiondotnet it was that character tags were limited. So only the actual main characters of the story were tagged.)

I don't need all 30 characters from a game or book or movie tagged for one story. Even if they all have scenes with the main characters. Even if they have dialogue. Their presence in the location of the story is implied and understood because they're canon characters.

'And Cast' succinctly encompasses the concept that "More characters will be here but they won't be the focus of the story." It's a beautiful 2-word shorthand tag to communicate something important to readers.

It would help declutter tag lists, so people can get a better idea of what's inside a story. It would help eliminate false positives for people looking for stories focusing on their blorbos. It would just help SO MUCH!

And I'm going to stand on my soapbox and shout about it tonight
