Today I continued my Star Trek journey by rewatching Star Trek (2009) and boy howdy do I have some thoughts.
So first off, I saw this for the first time when I came out in 2009. It wasn’t my first experience with Star Trek, but it was probably my first with Kirk and Spock and that gang. I remember liking it a lot.
Now that I’ve watched all of TOS and a few of the movies with the original cast my feelings are a little more complicated.
Overall, fun movie! I imagine they had to have felt the weight of recasting and redoing such iconic characters, and in a lot of ways they succeeded. It certainly got younger people like me interested in the franchise!
💫 Spock: I do love this version of him. His “live long and prosper” to the VSA is perfectly bitchy and I’m obsessed with it.
💫BONES!! if you’ve read any of my other posts you’ll know that somehow Bones snuck up on me as my favorite character. I love his intro here, and I think Karl Urban gets the tone just right. This really is a buffet for the McKirkers out there, I can see how this led to 1000 academy era fics of them.
💫Kirk: oh Jim. Jimmy Jim Jim. Baby boy. What are you doing. How did being played by Chris Pine (who is incredibly hot) make you LESS attractive??
Obviously this Kirk suffers from some Kirk drift and the added trauma of losing his dad. He’s so much angrier, so much less sweet and nerdy. Rewatching this now I can see why I was so hesitant to like him in TOS because he’s a lot less lovable here.
💫 I get it’s an emergency and they had to for plot reasons, but almost all of Pike’s staffing choices make no sense. Sure, Spock as acting captain, I get that. But everyone else?? Imagine being one of the other people there who has been with starfleet for years and seeing him hand Kirk the role of first officer. The ship can’t be entirely cadets can it?? Imagine the group texts going around after like “thank god he didn’t die because I really need to bitch about this.”
💫 I love all three Uhuras (tos, aos, and snw) and I get why they made her Spock’s love interest here because they’ve got fun chemistry! They have a lot in common, they’re both hot and smart, I get it. But cmon guys, that man is a 6 on the Kinsey scale. You keep pairing him with women and it doesn’t work.
💫 I feel like they worked in lots of little references to classic trek, from plot stuff to smaller details like when Spock enters from the turbolift at the end in a very TMP way. I love that, it makes me feel like the people making the movie really care about the stories and the characters. When Spock Prime says good luck I felt all the weight of his relationship with his Jim and how it changed him. So lovely and touching.
And just how close they made Kirk and Spock stand, especially towards the end of the movie. They were always glued to each other in TOS and JJ must have known us Spirk shippers needed something to latch on to 😅
💫 There’s too much action in this movie for me. We didn’t need to see Scotty beamed into the water tank. The best sf stuff is always story based, I don’t need extravagant fights and cgi shit. I’m sure there are people who watch science fiction for the spectacle but I’m here for the ideas and the feelings.
💫 goddddd everything with Vulcan and losing Amanda. Rip all our hearts out why don’t you. Spock’s mom dying is just heartbreaking. I know they had to lose someone we knew to make the destruction of the planet more real to us as viewers but so crushing to see it.
💫 Old Spock 😭😭😭
He knows right away who Jim is and expects that Jim found him on purpose.
Old Spock just launched right in to the mind meld huh. To me this really says that he and his Jim are on very casual mind meld terms and he’s not fully understanding that this Jim is not his Jim.
Think about how fucking weird all this must be for old Spock. How heartbreakingly strange it would be so see a young version of your husband and send him to a young version of yourself. Meeting all your old friends young selves, years after you’ve lost them all.
And from here out it’s just miscellaneous thoughts I jotted down while watching that don’t fit great anywhere else:
⭐️I love when the redshirt is so excited to get the Romulans and Kirk gets this look like… that’s why you’re here? Dude the battle not the appeal here. A nice glimpse of how this Kirk is similar at heart to TOS Kirk.
⭐️Love you Sulu and your fencing skills
⭐️I love when they stop the lift for emotional reasons.
⭐️“Our destinies have changed” goddddd great speech Spock
⭐️Jim has the look of a man who is frequently escorted places by security
⭐️Spock wants to break Kirk so bad 😂
⭐️When Jim slaps Spock’s back and Spock has a look of “I think that just awakened something in me.”
⭐️Spock you’re calling him Jim already? You slut. (Delighted, affectionate)
Overall I think it’s a fun movie but it misses a lot of what’s at the heart of the classic Trek I love. They try to do everything too fast and it just doesn’t work as well for me. I’m excited to rewatch the next two and see how these versions of the characters change!
#spirk#star trek#james t kirk#spock#leonard mccoy#star trek 2009#nyota uhura#not a bad movie!#but missing a lot of the vibes I love#I get why people love it and I get why people hate it.#mckirk

Akatsuki no Yona chapter 60 magazine vs volume
Hi everyone! I managed to get my hands on the clip out of the magazine version of chapter 60 from Hana to Yume issue 17/2012, and as we don't have much trace from the magazine versions of the chapters from then, i thought it would interesting to share my findings! First, the color page: the editor text says "What will become of Yona and the others? The suspens is agonizing, but?!" (baby trio time!!!!!!) Otherwise it advertizes volume 9 and how well it's been doing. It was the first ever volume to get a special edition and cover with a new drama CD and comments from the seiyuus! Something that I can't help but find a bit ironic is how they really highlight Takuhiro Sakurai as Tae-jun on the bottom right and ah yeah...this didn't age too well.
Behind the color page, it shows that Hana to Yume was (already back then) having a special Yona Crimson Festival campaign. This is when belated Kentaro Miura drew an illustration of the whole main cast that could be win in a lottery, with a reproduction of the special cover of volume 9, autographs of the seiyuus from the drama CD and Kusanagi, and a totebag with Ao that I had never seen before. Miura apparently said that he just ended up drawing the whole cast since it grew a lot (since the time he had only drawn Yona and Hak I assume).
Then to the chapter in itself. I know Kusanagi started really making changes between the magazines and tankoubon(volumes) in relatively recent years so I didn't expect to find any difference here honestly but I found a few! I also find it interesting to see her author's note, the summary of the plot and presentation of the characters etc all around.
So! Page 2 and the first page of the chapter. No change with the manga page from the volume we know of here, but I thought it would be interesting to share for what's below. I honestly am a bit too lazy to translate the whole synopsis as I don't think it says anything novel or specially interesting (I can still do it if someone insist), but I found the characters presentation sweet since it's different from the one we've been getting for every chapter for a while, and it's very cute too since it's specially for this flashback mini-arc.
Yona: Kouka Kingdom's Princess. She is an only child who lost her mother at a young age. She is preciously raised by her father and King Il.
Suwon: Yona's cousin of three years older. He has been gently watching over Yona like a little sister ever since he's little.
Hak: The successor of Mundok, General of the Wind Tribe. Later on, he'll become the servant and bodyguard of his childhood friend Yona.
Now on to page 4: Yona's hair and face were redrawn on the third panel! The movement lines next to her head were erased too. For the text and font, you can also see that the font of the first bubble was changed for the default one, and that they're formated it slightly differently in the last box. We don't often think about the original lettering in manga and how they can also change between raw and volume do we?
Page 7: It's not like this change matter much, but I was so surprised and happy to find out that this iconic page had been modified as well. The third panel that showcases how lively Kuuto is was completely replaced with people playing music. I think the volume version indeed conveys Kuuto's atmosphere much better (like why would Yona be so amazed at two men talking and drinking really), but it's interesting to find out that back then they struggled to find what to put there precisely. From a creative process pov this is so relatable lmao.
Other than these two pages before, I haven't noticed any other change, but I thought I would share Kusanagi's author comment!
"I'm so so happy. I can't believe Miura-sensei drew me an illustration of Yona(and of the whole main cast at that!). This boost me up even more to do my very best! Thank you so much (happiness)."
Nothing special on the last page, but if anyone wondered if there was some editor text here to tease the next chapter...well no there isn't nfjbfhjbg. I so wish I could get my hands on chapter 61 too...
I'm not sure if I'll be able to get my hands on much more of those but I also got chapter 24 with this one, and I noticed a couple of things I'd like to share as well so stay tuned for that :)

some v5/site spoilers. just my general thoughts LOL
holy shit the new site absolutely FUCKS it feels so. Alive. also the new volume so far kicks butt i love that uni actually got her gamer speech back 🫡 🫡 not to mention the art in the epilogue like. Got damn ! that shading makes my brain itch. AND A NEW CHARACTER HELLO????? actuslly holy ahit thinking of it i think that's like. reboot bonez. like barry's original love interest
i saw the site on mobile and honestly its SO much more accessible now and refreshing. i will probably check it out on pc later though
im so glad we got pretty much Every Single Character in the cast page now even the minor ones because I've been ao curious about them and we knew jack shit of them unless you check tumblr every fucking day. so thats one hell of a good change. the animations and icons also help bring the characters more to life and DOES kc animate well. seriously I can't emphasize enough how much i loved the cast pages they were so fun to read and skim through !!!!
im also glad kc explained the backstory of hemera and barry so the fandom doesn't shit on them for no reason. in this economy we live in we get barely any characters who react to trauma in ways that are considered bad or harmful/through anger 💔
the content warning thingamajigs and saturation bar is also rly handy so i dont get a content warning every 2 seconds
OK gushing over let me talk about some neutral/negative things imo. these are not just related to the relaunch but just. the comic in general
alright so this is basically just nitpicking but there are So Many Fucking Lesbians. nothing wrong with being lesbian i am one myself LOL but literally more than half of the frmale-aligned cast is a lesbian which kinda sucks a bit because. yknow. wheres the representation for other identities
also yeah. all the other crit blogs u were right unis definitely getting really fucking babified. girl has no fuckin flaws or anger or anything of the sort shes just an innocent uwu cinammon roll . head in hands
and my biggest nitpick of all. Cuddles. yeah he's the big bad villain but. he's so cartoonishly evil man. like in his bio it basically states every single bad thing a human (anthry?) person can do and it's just so hard to take it seriously im sorry. like it blatsntly states something along the lines of "there's no trauma or anything of the sort that led to him being like this" and im like. girlypop. thats not how people work. people just don't wake up one day and go "o fuck yea im gonna start hurting animals and torturing people and driving them to suicide and feel good doing it because i want to!!!!!!!!!!" like. No. Not At All. It's just not how shit works yknow. someone HAS to have reason to do shit like this and enjoy it, and not because they're big villain of the narrative and/or because the creator said so. hell BOWSER has more depth than cuddles. bowser is a hopeless romant. he's power hungry and constsntly soing risky, dangerous, or just over the top shit because he wants peach to love him and because he wants to earn respect amongst his people. and he also has a soft a side, being a father and even sometimes helping his arch nemesis whenever someone stronger than him appears and he doesn't want to lose respect, and evn though he does this to feed his ego, he ends up accidentally helping others in the process
.......okay sorry i did not mean to go into that bowser rant i just really like him Oksy. but my point is that just bowser is a character from fucking nintendo and is really cartoonish and yet has more depth and reasoning than the main villain from a webcomic about medical malpractice and trauma. the way cuddles is written overall just gives off vibes of a kid who doesn't actually know how to write stories and assumes the villain has to be the Big Bad for no rhyme or reason
but. overall. i can tell kc and the z//cp staff worked their asses off to get this volume and site done and did they hit the nail right in the head. excited for whats to come
thank u for listening to my thoughts gamers
ps. sTOP LOOKING AT ME WITH THAT SHIT EATING GRIN DORITO HEAD

I watched Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery, after putting it off for a while bc I didn’t love the first two seasons. My god. Season 3 is when the show finally, finally finds itself.
I had a litany of issues with the first two seasons, which have certainly been hashed out by fans before but which I will divide into two relevant categories for the sake of discussion:
Being a prequel, the show leaned on, altered, and got bogged down with preexisting Star Trek lore. They changed the Klingons’ iconic looks and made them the villains again. They brought in Section 31 in a role that was far too front facing for what that organization is supposed to be. They burdened Michael’s character with the baggage of being part of Spock’s family, and made the family even more dysfunctional and traumatic than it was in TOS to drive the plot forward. Now, there are plenty of things they did well. The integration of the mirror universe was clever. The uniforms, IMO, were a better pre-TOS imagining than those in Enterprise or AOS. Original content, like the Kelpiens, was beautifully done. Overall, however, the show felt stuck. They couldn’t cover new ground without altering pre-established ground, and those alterations were frustrating.
The show didn’t allow us to get to know and care for the crew. This was especially a problem in the first season, when we spent all of a few minutes with the Shenzhou crew before everything went to hell, and then the rest of the season on Discovery was war and trauma. How were the characters before the trauma? What changed, what was lost? We sure don’t know! And who are these characters now? Yes, we know Michael, Saru, Tilly, Stamets, Culber - they get individual moments, or moments with each other. But everyone else? The rest of the bridge crew? What are their names, what are they like, how do they interact with and feel about each other? We don’t know. It’s all a swirl of faces and bad situations. We don’t know these characters, but we’re expected to feel their pain as they’re pushed into the most extreme, traumatic situations possible. I didn’t even understand that Airiam was human until the episode in which she dies. Suddenly, then, we get a handful of sweet, everyday interactions between her and the rest of the crew. And boom! She’s gone.
But Season 3… what a breath of fresh air. Finally, the show is in the future and free to cover new ground. The Burn, a differently configured Federation, the couriers, the Emerald Chain, new planets, new peoples… finally, finally, finally. Yes, there is still the familiar here. We see the Trill, the Vulcans, the Romulans, the Orions, the Andorians. But the show can do new and interesting things with them in the far future, WITHOUT bucking the familiar lore of Star Trek’s past.
And now that Discovery made a journey alone and together, as just their crew? We KNOW them. There are still characters who get more focus, certainly. Michael, Saru, Tilly, Stamets, and Culber, still. But now I would count Owo and Detmer among them - we see more of their personalities, their relationship with each other and with others, and they become crucial support to the character dynamics and plot. Now Bryce, Rhys, and Nilsson are more to me than just faces in the background - they are finally familiar as fixtures on the bridge.
Characters who are more occasional, like Jett Reno, Lt. Linus, or Dr. Pollard, fall into a different category for me - they were always distinct presences, and I did know who they were. Even so, I feel that they get to stand out more now that the main cast feels solidified, as opposed to before, when we had a blur of the Enterprise crew and other rotating characters cycling in and out.
(Don’t think I’ve forgotten Nhan or Emperor Georgiou, who are both impactful, distinct characters. It’s just that Nhan always felt like Enterprise crew to me, even after her transfer to Discovery, and leaves early in Season 3. Georgiou, meanwhile, is both a not-quite-crew character and plentifully developed from her initial appearance. She was never a mystery to me.)
Also! Book? I ADORE him. I adore his relationship with Michael (FUCK Ash Tyler, this is the romance she deserves). I adore Grudge (she’s a queen!!) (just stop taking her on deadly missions ok it stresses me out).
Oh, and Adira? A treasure! A delight! Ready to join the Star Trek category of “local teen collectively parented by starship or space station crew.”
Anyway. After two whole seasons didn’t resonate with me, I’m so glad to finally be able to say that I like the show. It feels like Star Trek now.

it is my firm opinion that, in this age of reboots and sequels and prequels and whatever, star trek aos is the superior reboot of a beloved classic. like the incorporation of the meta narrative of a story trying to escape the shadow of what came before into the actual narrative of the film??? unparallelled. the casting??? iconic*. the soundtrack??? top notch.
like maybe the plot's sometimes all over the place and jj abrams can be...interesting about women (he went to the steven moffat school folks), but it's just so much fun.
*except for benedict cumberbatch as khan because Questionable for literally so many reasons, why jj, why'd you do khan like that?

hii axelle! 😊 can you recommend me best joss shows? i already love gawin and now i'm intrigued by jossgawin pairing (also i love vampires), but i'm completely unfamiliar with joss' previous work
hi anon, of course I can! :)
so joss made his main role debut in one of the most iconic thai dramas of all time, 3 will be free! it's a polyamorous show in which he plays a bisexual sex worker who escapes from the mafia. it's a thrilling show that literally is one in a million with beautiful lighting & incredible cinematography, and I could NOT recommend it more!!!
joss also played in friendzone 1 & 2 by the same director jojo tichakorn, who's known for his ensemble cast shows with lots of diverse queer characters. spoilers most of joss's shows have been by p'jojo lol! in it he plays a hot love interest, and while I don't really care for his character in this (apart from the hotness of course 👀), friendzone is a really solid show that I love, especially season 2!
fun fact joss was responsible for the first ever lakorn I've watched (thai soap opera), game rak ao keun! and it's honestly a really good lakorn, of course it's very over the top but the story is super entertaining & the acting excellent! watch the alternative ending tho!
then joss was also in my favorite storyline of good old days with namtan! good old days honestly was a really good show who deserved more love imo, and I really loved joss's storyline especially!
joss was also in mama gogo, another jojo tichakorn show where he plays a gogo boy with so many other faves of mine! it's peak joss hotness & absolutely one of the cutest shows!
then in 2023, joss was in loneliness society, which some people didn't like bc it's very lakorn-adjacent so can be very infuriating, but I really liked it! first of all it's the first time joss delivers a truly great emotional performance, but also his character was so cute & charming in it, and very different from all of his others! usually he always plays roles that rely on his good looks & abs, but not this time, and I really appreciated it! (also it's the same pairing as game rak ao keun!)
and lastly bc it's not that great of a show but joss still honestly ate, we have the player, another p'jojo show. joss is his usual hot self & has some homoerotic tension with mek jirakit's character which delivers on one of the most queer scenes I've ever seen, and just for that, that show deserves to be on the list!!! (do not watch it just for joss being potentially queer lol, the two gifsets I've made are all we get!)
xxx
#answers#joss wayar#gmmtv#thai drama recs#3 will be free#friend zone the series#game rak ao keun#good old days#mama gogo#loneliness society#the player#kinda sad that no one has giffed anything of jossnamtan in good old days

My knowledge on Star Trek is pretty limited, I've watched a handful of the movies, almost nothing of the og tv show but I've watched the modern movies with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe saldana. Also the first season of that show with Michael Burnham? But that's all
So, my question here is... How many versions of Spock are there? And how would you rate them? Any favorite?
Hey, thanks so much for the ask! I really have no excuse for why it took so long to answer it. I guess this is the kind of question where you either write a whole essay or answer it in a sentence. I always put it off, thinking I would sit down one day and magically write that essay… let's not kid ourselves, though, I'm not known for my fandom meta. But I'm determined to give you more than a sentence. So here goes!
You asked me to rank the Spocks, of which there are 3. *queue some huge Spock fan swooping in and berating me for how wrong I am* 😅 But yeah, we have Leonard Nimoy's Spock (the original one everyone has heard of), the one from the AOS movie, and - let's get this out of the way - my favorite, the one from Strange New Worlds (he also has a few (?) appearances in Discovery … I think in season one? So maybe you've seen him.) This sounds weird because he's such an icon - and I do appreciate him a lot - but… Spock doesn't particularly interest me? I'm not a huge watcher of the original Star Trek series either (yes I know, shame on me! 🙈), although I have watched it several times over the years. I don't feel like I really know Nimoy's Spock that well? I'm more interested in Vulcan culture in general. Of course, all that wouldn't exist w/o Original Spock AND Nimoy's input during production. He laid the foundation. So we owe him a lot.
That being said, I love that, in SNW, we're getting to know Spock and the Vulcan people in general from a fresh perspective. The way they're exploring intraracial dating (Spock and his fiancée T'Pring), interracial dating (Spock and Nurse Chapel), Spock coming to terms with his human side, navigating friendship and camaraderie on a majority human spaceship… It's just really well done. And idk if you've watched a bit of Strange New Worlds, but it's just an extremely beautiful show, simply stunning, visually. And let's face it, Ethan Peck is easy on the eyes as well. We're always told that Vulcans are physically stronger than humans and I love that he's looking the part? And that guys can act. Just an overall great casting choice.
I should probably add that I'm in the minority with my opinion. I have a feeling that most fans don't like Peck's Spock, but I think both the actor and the writing team are doing a great job. I love the show's humor and that they're not taking themselves and the characters too seriously, not even Saint Spock!
And of course there's Zachary Quinto, wouldn't want to forget about him. Gotta be honest with you, I only have eyes for Captain Pike and Uhura and mayyyybe Kirk when I'm watching the movie, but Quinto!Spock is doing a good job, I guess! He definitely has the sharpest haircut of them all! (and I lovelovelove little Spock!!!! Like, Spock as a kid? Do you remember that scene where he's at school and some meanies bully him because he's half human? Oh my gosh he's the cutest little kid and he looks so sad and I always want to give him a big hug!)
Anyway. Thanks for letting me ramble! I know Star Trek is not for everyone, but at this point there's a big variety of shows, so if there's any way for you to catch an episode or two, give it another try! 💜

(I don’t have a ton of photos of him onhand ao here’s some really random ones)
Stex Appreciation Month Day 3: Greaseball
Fav actor: Honestly I’m not very picky on Greaseball in general so I don’t have strong preferences. I just like as low, rich, and powerful a voice as possible for him. Vocally I like Andreas Wolfram on the 2013 cast recording (being great at rapping in German with an Elvis inflection is one hell of a statement) and the very brief Megamix footage I’ve seen of Lashane Williams as him.
Fav song/scenes: Pumping Iron, One Rock and Roll Too Many and clowning around with Dinah in the megamix. Honestly I liked basically everything he was in onstage irl last year, he was probably my favorite of the main characters since his numbers are almost more fun if you don’t know what he’s saying and view Elvis Train as the real protagonist for saving us from the REAL big bad: romantic ballads.
What Time Is It? is offensively bad as a song but I just love the concept of him and Electra having a rap battle and wish it was longer/more intelligent and more about beefing with each other vs fighting over some girl they both barely know.
Fav costumes: I’m content with pretty much all of the replica ones, since they don’t vary too much
Ships/Friendships: Him and Electra as enemies with benefits especially if it plays up the irl arguments of diesel vs electric. It’s not a very deep relationship, they just want to kill each other but also make out violently. If they joined as comrades maybe they could beat their real shared nemesis (automobiles, and Trucker Caboose as a minion of them) once and for all. I’m way more invested in the potential of their rivalry vs the actual main plot tbh.
He doesn’t deserve Dinah (and she deserves better than him) but I don’t see them separating, they just seem too attached to each other. I definitely prefer their more recent dynamics where she’s way more assertive because it’s funny to watch her boss him around (I love Dinah harassing engines in general)
Headcanons: He’s practical and pragmatic, if perhaps a bit too dismissive of doing things in newer/smarter ways vs past proven ones. Electra thinks he’s disgusting the way nonsmokers view smokers (it’s how he is about most combustion engines) but finds something alluring about his diesel clatter and how he feels alien to someone who mostly works in urban environments where it’s electric-only.
Unpopular opinions: I’ve been haunted by the thought experiment of “what if Mykal Rand played him in another timeline?”. He’d probably pull it off but has SUCH an un-Greaseball face that you have to just forget about him looking like Elvis and find what else works with the general vibe and themes of the character. Which opens the door to “what else could they have done with Greaseball if he varied as much as Electra visually/character-wise?”
I think he’s fine as is and doesn’t need changing because he just works (there’s a looot of things that need fixed in Stex before even thinking about that). But if I had to modernize him slightly, I’d make him more like Gene Simmons/KISS in general to scoot him forward about two decades. Still a VERY visually iconic inspiration and it would barely change the vocal style, over the top macho character, and “rebel” turned rock establishment aspect. You’d even have a free excuse to finally give him some fun makeup for once! It would also be relatively easier to genderbend him because Gene sings a bit higher and his costumes have always tried to make someone lanky/soft look bulkier so you wouldn’t have to struggle to find actual Chadettes with the right look already.
In a similar vein, I also like the idea of cat facepaint Greaseball the longer I think about it. It’s such an ironic animal motif for a macho character but it suits the “cat whisker” livery of a lot of midcentury locomotives and the diesel engine purr/growl. Also ties into the KISS thing in a way that won’t lead to copyright issues lol
(I can’t really say much on Wembley Greaseball other that I’m intrigued by the concept and will draw my own idea of female Greaseball eventually (metal-leaning design based on Floor Jansen and Noora from Battle Beast). From what I’ve seen just doesn’t seem to look/act tough enough for me and the costume is too narrow/glossy for my liking but I think the idea has potential. I am always in favor of randomly butchifying male characters because it’s fun.)

17 & 25 for the Star Trek ask game! 🖖
17. Favorite fashion look? 👙
if we're talking look i would most want to wear this dress from TOS S3E08 is honestly so pretty ;-; maybe it's be i just watched this episode but i want to draw fanart of this look so bad even though i can't draw for shit LMAO
but if we're talking main cast it's got to be mobster kirk and spock, is there really anything more iconic than this??
but i honestly live for almost any episode that puts the cast in civilian clothes <3
25. What's your unpopular opinion/hot take? 🐈
honestly i think aos, especially star trek (2009) by itself is not a bad way to introduce someone to star trek. maybe i'm biased because that's how i discovered star trek, but imo st2009 is actually a very good movie. it doesn't require previous knowledge of star trek to enjoy, it's a movie so no need to convince someone to watch a whole tv series off the bat, the entire cast did a great job with all their characters (esp zachary quinto as spock and karl urban as mccoy), it's more modern for those that might be put off by older shows, and despite being 15 years old the special effects still hold up great. i am also not ashamed to admit that the opening scene makes me cry EVERY fucking time
there are some choices made that i don't really like/agree with now as a tos fan, but I think interpretation aside, it's a great standalone movie and introduction to the star trek universe. and the plot surrounding spock prime gives it a connection to tos that can make people curious to check out the original timeline
i'm not saying it's the only way or the absolute best way to introduce someone to the franchise, but as someone who grew up watching aos and is now going back to watch all the other series i don't think it's a bad way to introduce someone at all!
#melia.ask#lalmeaningbeloved#thank you very much!#for both creating the ask game and sending me an ask#it's very kind of you 🖖

hate spock/chapel but hate the casting of uhura more.
You should hate more on the casting of snw uhura
spock and chapel are not the issue. dont hate them much. hate the snw creators for downgrading and erasing uhura as a love interest. snw uhura is a flop in reception, no one cares about her because she is ugly and no one wants to ship an ugly girl with spock. that is the fault of the creators of the show. they knew this and they still went on with it.
spock and chapel can be a thing and it would have been fine if they have given us a hot gorgeous sexy uhura because it meant they could have built to spock and uhura as the show went on but that can never be because ugly masculine girls like uhura in strange new worlds are never romantic interest to very popular guys like Spock. they are in the mammy trope mode.
i dont like the spock/chapel ship, however i have a hatred for the casting of uhura a lot more.
I like your blog, however i wish you will join the voices of uhura fans who are unhappy by the way they have presented her in snw a lot more.
we dont like or want an ugly masculine uhura and we need more voices to make it so.
Okay, first of all, calling Celia Gooding’s portrayal of Uhura “ugly” and “masculine” is very unkind. I happen to think Celia is very pretty and can very much hold her own against Jess Bush’s Chapel. Now, is Celia pretty and sexy in the sense that Zoe Saldana is in her portrayal of Uhura? No, because the writers haven’t written Uhura that way for whatever reason. But that doesn’t take away from the beauty that Celia possesses and brings to the SNW version of Uhura. Calling someone ugly and masculine to degrade them simply because you don’t like them or think a character has been miscast is just hella distasteful and rude.
Secondly, and let me state again for the record that I like Celia as Uhura. I think my only problem is why they’ve made her so much younger in SNW than she appears in TOS/AOS. I think this may be part of why the writers haven’t made her a potential love interest for Spock. And we already know, too, that there are a few years between Spock and Uhura as shown in AOS. She was a cadet and he was already an instructor for 4 years when the first AOS film happens in the timeline. But in SNW she just seems a lot younger than the rest of the crew and I don’t quite get why the writers made that decision.
I will also say that I don’t agree with how the writers have written SNW Uhura. She reads as more of a background character for me and like she may not be as integral to the crew as a whole and that I truly don’t like. But that isn’t Celia’s fault and Celia is only able to work with the material given. So, I think the only point we can agree on here is that SNW’s writing of Uhura is shoddy at best and the writers should really do better for such an icon such as Uhura that Nichelle and Zoe so beautifully and powerfully brought to life in TOS/AOS. I just think the writers haven’t given Celia the material to do that yet and it’s such a shame because I think Celia could do a wonderful job at bringing more depth to Uhura in a way that fits better with her actual character instead of how they are writing Uhura to be right now.
And I do want to say thank you for liking my blog, but I will not be joining the hate train for Celia’s SNW Uhura.
#star trek#star trek aos#star trek tos#star trek snw#there really do be racism out in these streets today#snw uhura

The Process of drawing all nine mercs (Sniper And Spy)
haha I know, it's been a few months sense my last tumblr ramble and a good amount of time sense anything TF2 based. I've been really diving into my own fiction, with my book! I haven't talked here on it much, but I am a aspiring writer (cringe I know) and currently want to start getting a full book done and in my portfolio and not just dozens of short stories, which will be daunting but I think I can make it. It's been a hobby and a time consuming one at that, so I really haven't dove back into TF2 with the whole book thing, and my other hyperfixation holding me in a chokehold (COUGH COUGH fnaf, epithet erased and undertale COUGH COUGH). But now I have the mental capacity to continue this little series! Right now I have finished the designs for Scout, Spy, Sniper, Pyro, Engineer and Medic. Solider is almost done, as well as Demoman...Haven't touched Heavy's design but I promise I will soon...maybe...BUT! Today, I want to go over the silly little guys of Mundy, and Pierre (Spys headcanoned name for my canon :D) Anyways lets dive in!
Sniper
Sniper is held near and dear to my heart, but jesus fucking christ I could not get his design for a awhile. It wasn't just one thing and little tweaks, like most of the other members so far--Engineer, Medic and Spy--- whos were pretty simple to fix. Engie just had his hair, Medic on his mature features and Spy with what was behind the mask. Sniper had like 5 different core aspects that I couldn't draw when I first starting drawing team fortress. The face shape was extremely long for my styling and for the first few tries, it just felt too off. Either too small when i tried my original style and too much when I did it more accurate but less trained. his hat sucked the soul out of my body I fucking hate drawing hats. His figure at the time was hard, as when I started this journey I only drew twinks and girls, both being far younger then the main cast. So for awhile, I had to place Sniper on a shelf and studied Dell, Ludwig and Pierre more. When I finally adapted my style to older characters, I finally got to draw Sniper. His flavoring aren't much different, as the usual design was for my style. I think it's crazy that the original base game really doesn't show many visible scars on characters (besides the comics and the meet videos which were both for Sniper so that did help his design). I gave him a few bullet wounds and the Percy classic, wolfcut hair. I would give him some greyer streaks as I bet money that you don't stay to calm under the pressure in his shoes no matter how big his professional persona keeps up. Also I give him top surgery scars because I am trans. What do you expect me to do. I also gave him the trademark teeth impracticalities! He has a lot of chips and uneven teeth, cause he ya know...lives in a van. I also don't think they give dental care in popular game team fortress two.
SPY
Spys design is nothing but iconic. If you don't know the game, you probably have seen either Heavy or Spy in some type of meme template. That was the main intimidating hurdle I had to get across (as well as some minor tweaks as usual) on how to make this character still show as Spy on paper. The mask took a good while to get right, as masks were never my strongsuit, and hats. Fuck hats. Spy is really fun to draw though. My main practice to draw the characters was in dresses or formal attire if not their classic uniforms or cosmetics in the game. Spy felt so much easier to draw if I did in some type of cocktail dress or ever some flowery more formal dress. He just has the perfect slim build to work in my style. It was a fun design to recreate and I do really enjoy drawing him. The main issue, besides his mask which was an easy jump, was his face. Like. Behind the mask. I cannot tell you how I got it done, I just looked really hard at the details in popular fanfiction "Solitude, But Two" (READ IT OR DIE I DON'T MAKE THE RULES) By Lu_undy on ao3 Im rabid im crazy GRAJHAHAHA. Anyways. Ahem. I kinda just blacked out and then I had Spys face. I have him more hair as usual, and I got him a different teeth screw up. Impacted canines! it makes them look like little small fangs that are smaller then the teeth! It's really interesting and I had done a lot of just sharp canine work in Sniper and I kinda knew that already before drawing Spy. Give the man some tiny wrinkles because I want him to be angry and be disgusted by his imperfections because I love him. I also would nail him to a tree, no questions asked.

O Combóio Apitou Três Vezes
EUA, 1952
Fred Zinnemann
8/10
Duel at Noon
High Noon is one of the most iconic westerns in North American cinema. To a large extent because it combines the classic elements of the Western with the psychological thriller, which was beginning to gain expression in the 1950s, after film noir had reigned in the previous decade.
It is a tense film, from beginning to end, where the spectator, as well as Marshall Kane and the other residents of the city, anxiously wait for a fatal outcome, while waiting for the midday train to arrive, and see Kane's expectations dashed, in gathering support to face the fearsome and vengeful Miller's band, who awaits him, also impatiently, at the station.
Everyone runs away or hides, except Kane and also, at the last moment, his young wife Amy, who ends up playing an essential role, in the final outcome of the duel.
A stellar cast stands out, starting with Gary Cooper (already in his fifties, but imposing in the lead role), Grace Kelly, Lloyd Bridges, the beautiful Mexican star Katy Jurado, even the future spaghetti western star, Lee Van Cleef.
A simple story, even elementary, but from which a cinematic myth was built.
In the future, Sergio Leone's heroes, like Clint Eastwood or Van Cleef himself, would have no difficulty getting rid of four fugitives, no matter how good gunmen they were. The myth was already installed. Clint Eastwood is not Will Kane, who has to face real villains and suffer the consequences of his bravery. He is a true superhero, who, with cunning and infallible aim, takes on dozens of opponents, without suffering a scratch.
In High Noon the fear is real, the tension tremendous, danger lurks around every corner and every bullet takes death with it.
It's the clay that made the western heroes. Others would use them to build the myth.
