Part 1

What happens when you ask them; “Do you think we’re together in every universe?”

Nami - 0.2k

With a singsongy voice, you announce your presence to Nami. “Babe!”

“Y/n!” She responds in a similar cadence. However, she doesn’t look up from drawing her map.

You round her desk so that you’re standing behind it, and she finishes off a line before setting down her pen. “What’s up?”

“I have a question for you.”

“Mhm…?”

“Ok. Don’t laugh.”

“I won’t laugh at you, babe.” Well, she might, but only out of endearment.

“So… Um, do you think that we would be together in every universe?”

Her lips, once pressed together in a resting expression, curve upwards. The shake of her shoulders is an unmistakable sign of held back laughter, which is only solidified by her hand covering her mouth.

“Hey! You said you wouldn’t laugh!” But in all fairness, you’re smiling too. It’s a silly sort of question.

“I’m not, I’m not!” She defends herself through giggles, then clears her throat.

“So, do you think so or not?”

Nami taps her chin with a smirk. “Yes. Yes I do.” The faintest blush colors her cheeks, though she’s much too proud to ever admit to being flustered by the idea. To think; you want to be with her just as badly as she does you, in any every lifetime or world where the two of you coexist. It’s enough to make even her swoon.

“Awww, so you do love me!” You tease. Your next course of action is to run out the door before she can (lovingly) hurl a book at you.

Monkey D. Luffy - 0.3k

You and Luffy are the last crewmates left at the table. Neither of you were late to dinner, nor were you ever. No, you had arrived to the dining room on time (even a little early), but he is still on his 3rd main course. Meanwhile, you are a slow eater. It’s no bother, though; you’d take almost any opportunity to spend time alone with Luffy.

With a soft smile, you tilt your head as you watch your boyfriend and captain stuff his face.

He pauses, noticing your staring. “What? Something on my face?” He licks his lips.

You shake your head. “I was just thinking.”

“Oh, ‘bout what?”

“Do you think we’re like this in every universe?”

“Like what? Still hungry? I know I am!”

“No,” you giggle, “I mean like… in love. A couple.”

This time, Luffy is the one to giggle at your curiosity. “What a weird question, y/n.” He cracks his blinding grin at you. “Of course we are.”

Luffy proceeds to stretch one arm around the back of your chair and pulls it closer to his. The proximity allows you to lay your head on his shoulder, and now everything feels right with the world…

Still, the “what if” scenario runs rampant in your imagination. “But if there is a world where we aren’t-“

“Just means we haven’t met yet.”

“… Hm. I guess you’re right.”

“Yeah, and I found you this time, right? So, I always will.” He says it all like it’s some simple, known truth. As if there are no doubts in his mind- nor should there be in yours- that you’re meant to be together. It’s not surprising though, given Luffy’s view on his own destiny. Naturally, yours is part of his, and vice versa.

With a simper, you swipe your thumb over the corner of his lips to brush away a crumb. “Or maybe I’ll find you.”

Usopp - 0.4k

You and Usopp like to play this sort of game where you ask each other questions. Sometimes they’re deep and introspective, others silly and random. It’s not really a game, per say, but… Well, it’s a fun little thing for when you’ve exhausted other topics of conversation or both of you are bored of other, cleverer topics.

“Ok, favorite temperature?”

“Favorite temperature? That's so specific!”

He chuckles. “Thats the point, baby.”

You hum in agreement before responding. “True… 74 degrees.”

“Celsius, or fahrenheit?”

“…Usopp.” You deadpan. “74 degree celsius would be, like…”

“Around 165 degrees fahrenheit.” He grins proudly. How some people, such as your boyfriend, are such naturals at mental math, you would never understand.

“Hmph… if you say so. But, yeah, why would I say my favorite temperature is 165 degrees fahrenheit?”

Usopp shrugs, “I wouldn’t put it past you; I know you like things hot.”

You’re too caught up in the way he leans toward you teasingly to notice his arms snaking around your waist. Without warning, he pulls you close to his chest. You shriek as Usopp spins you around, but your arms remain looped around his shoulders even after he sets you down.

“That was a dirty trick.”

“I think you enjoyed it.”

And you did, so you just smile and accept defeat. It’s your turn to ask a question now. “Do you think we’d be together in every universe?”

His smile falters. “I… Well, I don’t know.”

“…Oh.”

“I want to be, of course, I just…”

“Just what?”

“You have so many choices, y/n. Who’s to say you’d always choose me? I definitely wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t, in this hypothetical alternate-“

Your lips stop his from moving with a forceful kiss. They linger there, just for a few moments, before you pull back less than an inch away. “Don’t talk like that.”

“Sorry.”

“And don’t apologize. I’d always choose you, Usopp, no matter what.”

His confidence grows back, along with his smile. “Then yes,” Usopp places another small peck to your lips and pulls away to gauge your reaction, “I think we would be together in every universe.”

Your eyes seem to shine with some emotion that could only be described as love. “Just what I wanted to hear.”

Hiiiiiii. I apologize for blowing you up today, but I just finished my re-read of AMBA and seriously: it’s SO amazing. I never get tired of it. There are SO many little details to soak up. You were so invested in Boba Fett and put so much care and thought into his characterization.

So, as I was reading this go-around, I was wondering what was the exact moment that Boba realized he was in love with her? And when did he accept that it was ok to feel that way?

Obviously, it was a slow build in his comfort with their relationship over the story, but was after the first time after he was injured and she was fixing him up? Or did he not realize it until he spoke to her in Mando’a in the Princes bedchamber? Or when she got injured chasing the false Jedi? There’s so many times where he clearly has internal struggle and lets that softness or possessiveness slip out.

There were so many moments of growth in their relationship, so curious what your thoughts are about key moments!

Also, what is your favorite scene you wrote in this fic?

To answer your question, and this is maybe a strange response (? haha), the first moment Boba felt something he couldn’t easily classify toward her was the first time he saw her drinking alone in the hunter dive bar. He’s attracted, obviously, but it’s not just that (& I think for him attraction is a bit of a nothing-event; physicality and appearance is weird anyway because how do you work out any kind of beauty standards when you’re literally identical to millions of other people? I think the whole thing just ends up not counting for much) —it’s not sympathy either; it’s almost more of an emotional recognition? like an “Oh shit this person looks like how I feel, or how I used to feel, back when I felt anything.” That feeling simmers and soooo slowly warms until it’s burning him from the inside so by the time she starts putting herself at risk for his sake, and even worse, getting hurt for his sake, he’s honestly just pissing himself off more than anything else. & even then I don’t think he ever fully qualifies it or names it until the morning he wakes up and sees her standing on the balcony under the morning sun. I really wanted that to feel like his “oh, I would give it all up for her” moment while I was writing it. And to be honest, I don’t think he ever accepted it; I think he always knew he was running on borrowed time with her and was just waiting for the end whilst nursing some kind of vague, hopeless idea of maybe.

My fave moments to write were probably all the interactions with Cere 🥲 I’m very into slipping in EU side characters if it wasn’t already obvious (Krrsantan, Myo, hahaha). I’d cut out a scene where I was going to have an Aphra cameo at one stage as well and loved that too, so I might clean it up and post it as an outtake one day.

; my poor sweet geordi. my little man. this song is far too relatable enough as is, but i have a feeling our resident tetris boy would relate very much to this song. specifically the chorus—“when you go quiet i hate myself” is almost literally about how geordi felt when he was first getting used to cutie’s silence. i can imagine how vulnerable it was for him. he’s getting better tho! which is exactly what i wanted!

; so a bit of a weirder pull for him, i like the idea that in the days after meeting and getting cutie’s number, his thoughts were just plagued with images of them in his mind. do i think they put them into his head? no, but this was early cutie, so it could have been possible. but i like the idea of one of geordi’s thoughts just going all conspiracy over why he kept thinking abt them.

; another sad one for our tetris boy, and this might even be sadder than the dodie song. i love wallows, theyre probably in my top fave artists, and all their songs are sooo good. this song just screams geordi to me. the genius lyric website says that this song is about “the narrator [is] asking for support and validation from a loved one during times of struggle and self-doubt, whilst talking alot about encouraging self-awareness and speaking out about inner conflicts and problems”, which. i mean. yeah, thats geordi and cutie alright! i imagined this when they were slowly starting to talk to each other again but were still really nervous about what the other would say.

; so this song is. alright so its from the second trolls movie. BUT HEAR ME OUT OK. this is my sam singing voice claim and i think its damn near perfect. i would have done bentley's song “what was i thinking?” instead but i think the trolls song fits better. something about running and coming back, etc etc. listen, this song is just really good, and i think it makes sense for sam. that’s the only explanation i can give here dhsjdhjd

; i was not a fan of nickleback for a while, and now im kinda vibing with some of their songs, but this has such big sam and darlin' energy to me. like, look, darlin' is canonically hot as fuck (as confirmed by porter), and i really just think this song fits really well with their dynamic.

; so we're all in agreement that sam definitely has some kind of religious trauma (most likely catholic/christian) right? anyways, i only recently got into gmm last year, and when i heard this song i was like “there’s no shot that’s rhett from gmm”. knowing that rhett writes this from the perspective of someone healing from a religious past that was harmful was really empowering, and i think that it fits sam really well.

; this to me suits blake because of the tone shift in the song. where it goes from slow and almost eerie to a bossa nova jazz type swing to it. to me, it reflects how blake is really like: the way he was around sunshine vs bestie, like in his “two sides to a yandere” audio.

; there are definitely other noah kahan songs on my tank playlist, but this one is just such a good depiction of who they are. them coming back to dahlia, people recognizing them but them saying they’re not from dahlia, how dahlia doesn’t feel like home, like—something about that just really hits me in a way that i love.

; this is my “darlin's go-to karaoke song” song. imagine them kinda drunk, feeling themself and having fun, singing this in front of their pack, and especially in front of sam. like it’s such a good song for them.

; this is here because in my little universe, darlin', david & asher were in a band as teens, and they covered this song. but also, this is such a teen!tank song. this was probably playing while they beat up tires in an abandoned parking lot. like i imagine david wasn’t as much a rule breaker as asher, milo, amanda, christian, & tank were, but you gotta admit their friend group were probably hellions in their own right.

; ok this actually is inspired by oh, baby, baby by lovelylonerliterature because that is one of the best guy/honey fics i’ve read in a while, but i think honey learning to be softer and be a bit silly with it is so wonderful. also, i like the idea that guy would joke propose with something silly like a bread tie ring or a lego ring but honey would fully take it as a promise for the future and just break guy. what can i say, i like making our pizza boy flustered. and so do they.

; awww, honey you sap you! no but seriously, i imagine that honey often thinks about how much guy has changed them for the better. and they haaaaate it. y'know that one tiktok audio where someone’s like "he makes me smile—OH WHAT THE FUCK"? that was honey when they realized they had a crush on guy. and this song kind of embodies that too; honey isn't used to being sweet, but being with guy has made them into a sappy person, which they never thought they would be, and how much they actually enjoy it.

; so not only is this my favorite song at the moment, this is also my freelancer theme song basically. the lyrics "it always took too long to learn how to slow down / chasing shortcuts and serotonin touchdowns" and "maybe i lost drive / i'm searching every day for relief / and chasing a break that i don't really need" feels like our resident (and chronic) overworking deviant. this also works when you think about freelancer singing this and each of the verses matching with one of the D.A.M.N. crew boys.

; a song about feeling the need to overwork yourself to get better at something because you have a fear of failure and falling behind, in my freelancer playlist? how ridiculous! /j no but in all seriousness this song is a perfect depiction of their need to keep pushing, keep working, to be perfect. i think even when they know they’re good at something, they have to be better. they need to be better to prove themself.

; so this is a bit more of a depressing and sad song for freelancer, but one i think still makes sense. this reminds me of early s3!freelancer, still healing from the inversion and terrified of everyone they love going away. how they grew up, how they hide their pain as best they can so they don’t bother anyone with their problems, but how they dont want their friends to deal with that kind of pain. how they don't want the D.A.M.N. crew to be in pain, but was so hesitant to let the others know their own pain.

; so i found out abt artio recently, and when i looked them up on tiktok and saw the lead singer, rae, i immediately said “oh, that's crow!” (for those who dont know, crow is the name of my freelancer-sona). this is very specifically for my freelancer-sona, but i think it stills works for canon!freelancer. how their people pleaser tendencies can make them so quick to change themself for others but how they’ve slowly grown to be more confident in themself.

Fontaine and Natlan Archon Quest Thoughts

I haven't played Genshin in over a year and I just got back into it. So, I had to speed run all the archon quests in order to feel like I can manage the insane amount of quests I have to do. Let me tell you, the Fontaine Archon quest line might just be my favorite in the entire game (my prev fave was Sumeru). But wow, Fontaine really stepped it up from the scale of the story to the characters.

The first part of the archon quest involves an incident at magician Lyney's show, leading to his trial for the disappearance of a woman. This later connected to another case in which women were disappearing from all over. I really loved how the story neatly transitioned from the small scale of Lyney's trial to the overarching case. It was honestly very intriguing and I really enjoyed the game mechanic of playing lawyer. Furthermore, the quests did a great job involving the various characters. Although Navia initially starts off as someone helping us defend Lyney, she becomes an integral part of finding out who kidnapped all those women. Her story about her father also was very heartfelt and Navia is easily one of my new favorite characters. Plus, Silver and Melus are awesome. The eventual reveal about Marcel and what he did was genuinely chilling.

Once we wrapped up the missing women case, Neuvillette has the player investigate something for him. This leads us to the Fortress of Meropide which is honestly such a cool location. The music and sound design really has stuck with me (and it finally got me off the ear worm that was Sumeru's music bc I think I spent too much time in that place; thanks Kaveh). Anyways, although we were stuck there for a while, it never felt boring. Wriothesely and the people that lived there set up a very interesting community. This is eventually culminated in the primordial sea breaking through its containment.

The third part of the archon quest involves Furina's trial as being a false archon and the fated prophecy of Fontaine. I think this archon quest excels so much is because you have that underlying prophecy connecting everything. Lyney's trial involved a women who went missing. The eventual reveal showed us that she was dissolved per the prophecy's words. In the Fortress of Meropide, the primordial sea almost kills everyone. We also learn that smaller amounts of the water can be made into a drug. Even Childe got some more lore reveal in connection to the sea. When it all comes together for Furina's trial, it hits so hard. This girl has spent hundreds of years acting as the archon and trying to protect her people, using a facade to create a sense of security. But in reality, she's not ok, the prophecy is still fated to take place, and Furina is very lost. It's heartbreaking.

In truth, Furina is the human side to Focalors. Focalors herself put her consciousness in the Oratrice. She tells Neuvillette the truth about the previous Hyrdo Archon, the revelation about the Fontainian people, and what she did in order to try and stop the prophecy. Furthermore, we learn a lot about Neuvillette and who he truly is. (Btw, this beautifully connects to his story and journey about belonging). Everything, in my opinion, is so well written and you really begin to feel for these characters. Both Neuvillette and Furina have such compelling and tragic stories which the archon quest beautifully highlights. Overall, just phenomenal.

And that's not even going into everything with Arlecchino. I wound up really, really loving her involvement in the story, the lore behind the House of the Hearth, and her boss fight in her story quest. She's a fascinating character and I look forward to seeing her again in future content. It also adds depth of Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. They're fatui via due to the House of the Hearth, but they're not malicious like other Fatui characters the Traveler has encountered. I love all three of them very much and their sibling bond is very heartfelt.

That's not to mention all the other amazing characters like Clorinde, Sigewinne, the other Melusines, and Charlotte.

Natlan time. Spoilers because it's still quite recent.

We're still early in the Natlan archon quests but it didn't grab me as much as Fontaine's did. Overall, it was good and there's still more to come. I think the strengths for me came from the characters. Kachina is a very endearing kid and you genuinely want to help her out and do the Pilgrimage (at least I wanted to). Mualani is very kind and positive. I loved her right away and pulled for her even though I just got back into the game. She's awesome. Kinich is cool. I need to go back and watch his cutscenes at some point. I don't like Ajaw though. I wanna yeet that thing.

The Pilgrimage itself was pretty fun and I loved the teamwork with Kachina and Mualani. I enjoyed going around Natlan as well and seeing Mualani's home. After the Pilgrimage, Kachina is unable to be resurrected and we have to go into the Night Kingdom in order to save her. The design of the place was really cool and I like the distinction between the Night Kingdom monsters and regular ones. The souls who wander were also really spooky when they came at you. Overall, I liked the aesthetic of Natlan and its characters.

Where it kinda fell flat for me was with Mavuika and Capitano. I like her as a character and how Natlan chooses a different Pyro Archon ever couple hundred years or so. However, it feels like Capitano kinda shows up out of nowhere. I was really excited for the fight scene between them and it looked really cool. But it happens so fast that I wish we got a little more build up to it. The Abyss is the prime antagonist of Natlan and Capitano kinda just manifests. I really thought we were going to get a scene were Mavuika meets the Traveler and then Capitano arrives. Like, we barely know Mavuika because she's just sitting there for the first archon quest. I really didn't feel much when she and Capitano fought. She looked really cool, but I think we needed a bit more. Anyone else feel slightly underwhelmed?

There was so much hype in the trailer and it then it comes and goes by so quick. At least Capitano is sticking around for now. Perhaps this will all hit different once we get the rest of the Archon Quests in the Natlan storyline. I also wonder what the power levels are since Capitano, Dottore, and Columbina are supposed to have power that of a god. Mavuika I think has the same thing since she's a human who was granted divinity.

That's just me though.

I am very much looking forward to what's coming next and how Natlan will stave off the Abyss before it's entirely consumed by it. (I just realized this is very similar to Fontaine and Sumeru. All three nations are plagued by some sort of supernatural event that will destroy them, whether it's the withering, the primordial sea, or the Abyss. Hopefully, Snezhnaya will be different.

Anyways, those are my thoughts on the everything right now. I love the characters and Fontaine Archon quest went so hard.

Ringmaster Scarr

ok look. i don't dislike ringmaster scarr, in fact i quite like several of her alt styles (one pictured) significantly more than her "default look". i just don't really connect much to this one and don't use her very often. i think with some tweaks this could have been one of my faves but idk. something is missing

Emma Frost

i am just a little bit weirded out by how fortnite kind of frames emma frost as a counterpart to montague by including a crystal style and making her a medallion boss, but we're gonna move on from that. i dont think ive ever really seen the character before and still dont know that much about her but she is pretty! i don't find myself using this skin thatoften though but maybe i will in the future? her dance is nice too

Medusa

ok look i left her off my girlypop poll but only because i think the general community doesn't care much for her, you almost never see this skin out and about in my experience. however i do think this is a pretty good design, i also like the different styles which make her go from mystical to warrior, it's cool. arguably she pulls off this motif better than zeus in the same season. anyway honestly i don't use her much either and i think it's just because, while she is pretty and has a good design, there's just better skins

Brite Raider

i like this skin kinda more for its role as a throwback/remix of brite than i actually wanna use it. the alt styles honestly are just ok and while she's cute i just find myself not wanting to use the skin very often. however it is cool to know that i can always use a brite if i want to without purchasing another skin. this feels like faint praise but really i do think she's cool!

Aphrodite

i like this design, it could definitely be better (like her survey version..) but for what it is i like it. i guess im just not in love with it. irony i guess

Nisha

i don't really know what to say about nisha besides that she's really pretty and i like her. like a fencing motif wouldnt usually draw me to a character but there's a lot of intrigue with her relationship with valeria and being one of the only society members who was still running around by the end of the chapter. anyway shes valeria's wife that's just the truth sorry

Shuri (Black Panther)

ok am i the only one who thinks this was really cool i mean come on. t'challa is already a big bucks pack skin so why not put shuri here? i dont really have much to say here besides she's cool and, i don't know, i probably wouldn't have autonomously bought a shuri skin but i love having one

Valeria

i really like valeria, she could maybe be a little over the top with her design (mostly her jacket) but that's like, the idea, she's extravagant. in terms of game canon i would love to see her return but for a season main antagonist, i really enjoyed her. but yeah pretty and all the rest! i'm at a loss here!

Korra (The Legend of Korra)

i haven't seen korra, and i wish she had more than just two styles (a 'normal' version with short hair would be really really cute) but. it's fucking korra. this is cool as shit, even if the waterbending mythic she forced upon most of the season was oppressively strong.

Gwenpool

honestly i never had any experience with this character before she was introduced to fortnite, but she's really cool! i also think she's a really clever inclusion in that she hits the battle pass requirements of having at least one super cutie girl while also being a "-pool" to tie in with wolverine & deadpool (in this way peelverine is also rather clever, also serving as a remix for peely). overall just a great inclusion and she's cute.

The Machinist

cute mechanic girl who instantly attracted yuri ships with everyone around her? sign me up! honestly i really like her design too in all of her styles, my only problem is that she's basically an unambiguous villain but. she's so cute! i do really enjoy the loading screen that makes her look like megalo don's bratty niece and it does give some spark to her character. so yeah idk i like her!

hope is this chapter's protagonist character and as such has a lot of spotlight. so maybe some of that hype is seeping in here but i really do like hope. she's cute, i like her designs, i like her cat motif, i like her apparent struggles with not letting the darkness consume her, etc. she was obviously one of the standouts of her original season and idk. guess all i can say is that she is pretty cool

best design of the whole chapter?? honestly i love artemis. her design is super cool, i really love the space effects whenever they are used on a skin and in any of her colors she looks gorgeous. she's also been the absolute best recruitable bot for much of the chapter and any skin that serves that role is gonna be in my good books. and can i also say that i love her dance and the song for it a lot too?? i feel like artemis is really underrated

While I won’t deny that misogyny definitely plays a role in it, I also feel like one of the reasons people tend to want to focus more on Blitzwing than on Blackarachnia in fanworks is the same reason people are so obsessed with the secret bosses in Deltarune: the overall mystery surrounding his character.

Blitzwing and Blackarachnia are both unique, one-of-a-kind models, so people are naturally going to have three questions running through their minds upon their debut: what happened to them, what led up to that point, and who they used to be beforehand.

However, despite Blitzwing making more appearances than her, there’s still so little we know about him in comparison with Blackarachnia, who basically has her entire backstory revealed to us in her first spotlight episode. Even the information we do get regarding his past raises more questions than it answers, and that information’s Schrödinger’s canon at best. Fans are naturally drawn towards mysteries, so of course they’re going to be more interested in making content exploring and trying to solve those mysteries rather than just restricting themselves to stuff they already know.

I feel like the writing team showed their cards too early with Blackarachnia and left people with much less of a mystery to play around with other than “is techno-organicness reversible” and “will she cure herself or accept herself for who she is”. I think that maybe if they had had her make more appearances and held off on revealing her backstory until much later, while maybe dropping subtle hints of her knowing Optimus and Sentinel from somewhere and having once been an Autobot, people would feel like they had much more to work with.

(Also, from what I’ve seen, most Blitzwing fans are well aware of the ableist portrayal of his character but are usually neurodivergent themselves and thus have reclaimed him in a sense, alongside portraying him in a much more accurate manner to real-life DID and OSDD in fan works while still acknowledging that he’s an alien robot whose processor is much different from a human brain and thus would logically not be a complete one-to-one regarding analogous disabilities and mental disorders.)

So, I have been admittedly sitting on this ask for while bc it's been hard to digest and fully think about the points being made here. I don't want to get defensive on an impulse so I wanted to kinda stew on it a bit and read it over and over to see how my thoughts change. But really my thoughts are the same as when I first saw it which is most of this? Really just reads as excuses for Blitzwing's popularity that distract from the real causes being sexism and fandom's bias towards conventally attractive characters.

I want to go through this point by point but the TDLR; almost everything said here is also true for other characters who are very much not as popular as Blitzwing usually bc of sexism or not being the kind of characters the fandom cares to pay attention to. Sure you could point out all the things Blitzwing has that BA doesnt and say 'those are the things that make him more popular' but that ignores all the things BA has that Blitzwing doesn't. [Motivation, a personality, complexities, story relevence, she's not a horrible potrayal of the mentally ill, narrative focus etc] That the fandom just pretends don't exist and barely awknowledge, you can't just shy away from the reality that Blitzwing massively benefits from the misogyny present in this fandom because he's ur fave and you like him. That's only being complicit in it and turning a blind eye to it. Sure you could project a lot onto a bland male character and say you like him but you should also keep in mind the female characters who are ACTUALLY complex and interesting characters you tossed to the side to focus on him. I get that you 'awknoledged' the misogny in the first bit of the ask, but when you follow that up with... That it really doesnt come accross as genuine.

Anyways I'm gonna disect this message and talk about why I simply do not buy it.

Firstly

I'm going to be blunt, this is something SO many characters in TFA have going on. Lugnut is a great example of a character who has way more screentime than Blitzwing [remember Blitzwing disappears by S3 and is replaced by Shockwave as an evil minion but Lugnut stays] but is still almost entirely a mystery in terms of backstory motivation etc. But Lugnut is almost NEVER the center of fan content unless being made to be the butt of the joke and when he does appear hes usually just used as a tool to progress Blitzwing's character, someone to pressure him abt being in the cons, someone to be mean to him, etc.

But Lugnut is an entirely unique design with a helm look no other character has and claws that resemble the ones given to empurata bots in IDW. We don't even know why he hates the autobots so intensely but seeing how fucked up the autobots are in TFA why isn't there more theorizing about what exactly they did to make him need to see their downfall so badly? To the point where Lugnut is constantly at the feet praising someone who he doesn't even know would throw him to the side and leave him for dead the INSTANT it was convient for him.

You could say people don't explore it bc its played as a joke but so is everything about Blitzwing's character, esp his DID which is in increadibly poor taste. No, it's because Lugnut is fat and 'ugly', the fandom has no interest in him, same way they have so little interest in Bulkhead compared to other characters. He's just not hot enough to become the little sexyboy of the fandom. So he's tossed the side same way Bulkhead is. Not to mention characters like Arcee also have a ton of mystery surrounding them but they're women so...

Gonna be honest these paragraphs really piss me off LMAO, BA's mystery goes so much deeper than the two questions provided here such as the fact when trying to cure herself it's almost always potrayed as painful and life THREATENING! The mystery and tension of her character isn't' will she cure herself and can she?' its whether or not she will KILL HERSELF trying to cure her disability. Will she leave the cons? Will she grow to become a better person or keep spiralling down into evil? Fans are drawn to mystery sure but only when that mystery involves a sexy man, when it involved a woman character whose biggest mystery is whether or not her self loathing will kill her, its uninteresting and not worth their time, if they even bother to awknowledge it instead of just making her a scary villain/abuser for their male faves to be sad.

I also have to ask on this point too, fans tend to HEAVILY ignore any canon Blitzwing has either way, nobody awknowledges the bigotry towards organics/techno organics he displays, nor the levels of cruelty so why does canon even really matter in this discussion when as far as fanon is concerned it doesnt? It's excuses. It only matters now bc now people wanna justify the reason BA is a mean evil woman and Blitzwing is a sad puppy boy with so many complexities in fanon without facing the actual reason that is.

And while we're talking about things Blitzwing has that BA doesn't let's talk about all the things BA has that Blitzwing doesn't.

She's not a horrible potrayal of DID

She has complexities to her character beyond being an evil minon for the sake of being evil whose also 'the Crazy one'

She has narrative importance

She got told she should fucking die by one of her friends bc he hated her scarring so much.

She is shown to at least somewhat care for others when she spares Prowl and Bee despite not having gotten her part of the deal.

She has likely faced that sort of bigotry all the time and had to flee her home bc of it.

She has so much mystery behind how she joined the cons, why she joined the cons when they seem to show the same disgust to her as the autobots.

She's an interesting character.

I could go on but I'm not going to. F- on this point.

Now the last point which to me is the most BS

this is just not fucking true, 99% of content of Blitzwing I have seen either has people declaring him good rep [I have seen this several times] or is just talking about how sexy he is, its very very rare the horrible potrayal of his disability is awknowledged. Hell Blitzbee has such a deathgrip on the fandom and one of the nicknames Bee constantly uses in that content is BLITZBRAIN, literally making fun of his disability more. Not to mention how much of it is purposely making the scary disabled character scary on purpose. I'm not saying you cant enjoy or consume that content but you seriously have to be dumb to think the fandom is aware of or cares about this issue.

Also on the 'making him more accurate' I've never seen fanon do this truly and honestly. Where is the childhood truama? The awknowledgement that DID doesn't work the way Blitzwing shows it? I almost never see any fan content that wasn't just copying what TFA potrayed with him. Where are you finding this?

And lastly you can't just say youve 'Reclaimed' something and suddenly its okay, Hasbro knows how much this fandom loves TFA Blitzwing, you guys spend money on him you praise him you dont talk about how bad rep he is. If Hasbro rereleased TFA Blitzwing right now so many fans would flock to get him not even thinking about the fact THAT ENCOURAGES HASBRO TO THINK THAT THIS POTRAYAL OF THE MENTALLY ILL IS OKAY. This is just an excuse to consume content of Blitzwing uncritically to produce content of him uncritically! What about all the times DID swag polls esp ones involving good rep for them INCLUDED BLITZWING?? Did the runners of those who might not even know what TFA is say it was okay to send in a character who is clearly a mean spirited potrayal of them?? You can't just say Blitzwing is reclaimed and therefore its okay, you guys haven't even properly awknowledged all the things wrong with his character being a horrible potrayal of DID enough to get the sense to not fucking submit him into polls abt it. Let alone to produce half decent content of him.

This book has been on my mind since it was hinted at at the end of TOA, so it's been a sec. The idea of this book actually helped me quite a bit when I wasn't doing very well mentally, which is very sad!

Ok, first thing's first.

Second of all, my statement still stands:

For the most part the queer representation is pretty damn good this time around!

Epiales and Menoetes immediately getting defensive was a bit jarring and a little bit worrying to me but thankfully their bursts of anger about it last like five seconds each.

I'm really glad they say the words gay and queer naturally and not like they're some forbidden line to be crossed in a novel for young teens/late tweens. It genuinely made me smile.

Persephone even bringing up the notion of aromantic people almost made me lose my shit!! I am aromantic!!! That's me!!!! Just like me fr!!!!! But seriously I kinda feel forgotten a lot in queer media and literally any mention of aromanticism makes me smile, it was a very nice thing to see.

That's barely even mentioning the queer characters!

Nico bluntly saying he's gay is so fucking satisfying to see now, it's so nice to see him so comfortable with who he is.

Will canonically being bisexual is really nice to see, I could feel the writers' sigh of relief as they put the discourse to rest.

SPEAKING OF DISCOURSE... Piper MyQueen! It's nice to see a questioning character because I haven't really seen one represented before! She's still figuring herself out after the months following the end of toa and it's nice to see the message that it takes time to figure yourself out being shown because it's a surprisingly rare one to see. I appreciate how she also gravitates towards the queer label :)

Now minor characters:

Epiales: I appreciate them because of how ridiculous their existence is

Hiss-majesty: iconic and also that name makes me confused

Menoetes: my beloved

That. I have LOVED seeing how Bianca and Maria have affected Nico over the years! It's so tragic and amazing and YES.

Seeing Bianca one last time and Maria for the first time ever was so so so satisfying even if they didn't say much. I almost teared up a bit. A lot. I got emotional.

Nyx using them against Nico was SO fucked up and I love it

Hades and Persephone's growth was so unexpected I am just gonna be real.

Hades was going to happen naturally because of what we say in HoO but him caring enough to send Nico a prophecy? And bring back Maria and Bianca? That's so sweet! I love that! I love that SO much! And also he isn't completely not an asshole which is appreciated.

Persephone is my favorite one of Riordan's interpretations of the gods.

I never thought I would say that sentence ever in my life. She's so caring and sweet for the 10 minutes we see her and I really appreciate her growth and seeing how she's finally getting over her grudge. It was unexpected and completely welcome.

Also I appreciate clarifying that Hades and Persephone's relationship is a good one from Persephone herself.

Also Nemesis is a badass and I did not realize how much I missed her! She has no reason so be so cool and yet she still is.

Gorgyra's chapters were all wonderful, I love her SO much and I hope Bob visits her sometime.

Speaking of which: Bob and Small Bob are amazing as always.

I appreciate the theme of change around Bob's character, he's different from how I remember him being is HoH but that's probably more natural than Nico's change in character (which I don't mind as much as most people I've seen but is still jarring) because of him and Iapetus switching every two seconds for over a year so yeah.

Small Bob is Small Bob. Cat. Gato. Wonderful.

Will actually having more of a character was nice to see too! Also his ultimate magic hidden deep within being hayfever is very funny to me.

Actually talking about the trauma these characters have been through and addressing it is also very satisfying.

Overall I think it was a good send off to these kids who have been through too damn much. I will have a post airing my criticisms probably but I really did like this lovable train wreck of a book, me from two years ago would be very pleased.

Can't wait for the road trip book where both Percy and Annabeth come out as bisexual simultaneously and for this series to be OVER!!!

I need to talk about Dragon Age Absolution because yeah I’m late to the party but I finally watched it...

First of all, I can’t get over the utter ridiculousness of Hawke failing to kill not one but TWO villains. Like. what the FUCK lmfao. This poor man/woman. And poor Varric too, holy shit. But I am a bit confused because Varric was viscount of Kirkwall at the end of DAI right? Was this already happening and he somehow just didn’t notice?? (There was also some weird timeline fuckery with Hira saying her family was killed by Venatori when she was a small child but now she’s at least 20 and the Venatori didn’t even exist until DAI. DA4 cannot be 15+ years later, that would be bananas.)

I was kind of spoiled for the Meredith reveal but I didn’t know she was fully aware and talking and controlling red lyrium templars?!?!?! I thought she was just gonna be the red crystal and that artifact was going to wake her up but I guess she’s already awake, so maybe it’s to give her a body again? IDK IDK.

Unfortunately I didn’t love Miriam. She’s just the type of character I don’t generally like... kinda 2edgy4u y’know? I mean she’s basically a female Fenris but the difference is we had a whole-ass game to get to know him and see his personality emerge and see him work through his trauma but this entire series was over SO fast that I never felt like I knew her at all. I knew Hira was going to betray them because there was absolutely no fucking way Fairbanks was the real traitor and if you played Inquisition you probably knew that too. It sucks he died but at least he wasn’t a bastard. Oh and speaking of Hira I just find it so funny that she was like “yeah I asked the Inquisition to go WAR with Tevinter and they said NO can you believe?!” and I’m like YES I can believe, what the fuck? Are you kidding me?? You think the Inquisition - who are already being scrutinized and accused of being power hungry and are dealing with mountains of other things - are going to start a war with one of the most powerful nations in Thedas? I have to laugh.

Rezaren had the personality of a piece of wet bread and I was zero percent interested in his whiny shenanigans. Although I do appreciate how he thought that keeping the reanimated corpse of his dead slave around to chat to every now and then was NORMAL. Horrific. I actually really liked Tassia though! Because for almost the entirety of DA we’ve sort of been told that Tevinter templars are weak as kittens and are basically pointless, but Tassia was a certified boss swinging that hammer around. It was weird that we never saw her use any templar abilities though (unless I missed it?) so maybe that is sort of frowned upon in Tevinter.

The real winners here are OBVIOUSLY Lacklon and Roland omg babessssss. Roland was by far my fave character. Optimistic and heroic with just the right amount of sass so he wasn’t boring. Qwydion was... ugh ok I am on the fence with her. There were a lot of parts where I really did like her but imho they just made her a BIT too silly. Like running away screaming from the demons... girl... you’re a badass mage, what the hell was that?!

Anyway overall I give it a solid 7/10. I think I was just so excited to see something new in the DA world again /sobs, so I can overlook some of the faults. I am both terrified and excited for DA4 because I thought we would be mostly dealing with Solas and his bullshit but now we have Meredith + red templars invading Tevinter which is already struggling to repel constant Qunari invasions?? Things are not looking good for Tevinter tbh and if that means something bad happens to Dorian I will RIOT.

ok i finished the anime

i rlly liked it as an addition to the franchise / alternate take on the story. it highlights some characters who never really got to do much (mostly just the exes who all originally got beaten to death) and gives them a lot more character and new dynamics to explore. they're a lot of fun! I'm happy they got to live and move on with their lives in this version, like what Scott's exes did in the og. also, one of my least fave things about the original -everyone is mean to knives- has just been completely written out? She was included in the group in the og, but it sort seemed that she kept inviting herself since nobody even liked her being there. I like how she and Stephen were friends again in this version :) and im happy she got to join the band. But in terms of character. idk she just feels really different here, since most of her story centered around Scott and he was absent for a long time, she sorta speedran the whole getting over him thing. The natural progression just wasn't there, when in the og story she said it took her a whole year, almost the duration of the whole comic. Also I really liked Envy and Kim's stories in the comic but they were barely in this :( Kim and Ramona's dynamic was one of my faves but they barely interacted here...

It just seems that Scott's whole memory suppression thing and nega-scott were gone. like completely. and it wasn't even acknowledged? which is sad because that was the thing that really got to me in the original. and ill say it. i think the whole thing with future Scott was kinda dumb. it just casually threw aside everything Scott did to become a better person, and Ramona and Scott's promise to hold onto one another. it just acted like that never happened. did he not accept nega-scott so that he wouldn't repeat his past mistakes again? where's his growth? why'd he do all that shit? idk I just find it kind of far fetched that he'd freak like that and make this whole master plan and go insane training for 10 years. it feels. out of character. I do think it was sweet of Ramona to counter his plan so he'd learn of their story anyways. Also, pet peeve, but I feel like they made Ramona a little... too cool? Like in the comic that's certainly how she came across in the beginning, but the whole point was that that was how Scott saw her. Cool and mysterious. And then he didn't bother learning more about her. That's where that whole joke about her age being a mystery came from, because Scott never asked her, but in the anime they just keep repeating it as if she doesn't want people to know how old she is...? But what I liked about Ramona in the comic was how it slowly became apparent that she was just like Scott. She ran away from everything, she wasn't put together at all. She'd rather let Scott deal with all her "evil" exes because she was still busy running from them all. In this one they showed that part but she was just sort of... missing the vibe here because they seemed too busy trying to make her perfectly capable of resolving all of it by herself. When in the og she KEPT RUNNING because she was scared of committing until the very end. And this is a v small thing but Ramona kept changing her hair colour without changing her haircut. i know that probably done to make animation easier but eh.

BUT. I really like how they played Scott Pilgrim (the song that Scott Pilgrim was based on) way at the end :) kind of bummed it wasn't for the whole end credits though

do i think it "fixes" the original story? fuck no. but was it fun? yeah, sure.

you focused on trying to get the hostages out while fushiguro and Itadori distracted it

it catches on to the plan and knocks yuji away when he goes to hit it 

then it goes after you

yuji gets up but not in time 

fushiguro tries to divert it with his shikigami but it doesn’t work

it hits you out the window 

you start falling and have no time to brace yourself before hitting the ground 

you’re going to hit the pavement and become a y/n pancake 

fushiguro watches the whole thing in horror

he’s NOT going to lose you like this

he tries to think of what he can do to save you and it hits him like a pile of bricks

a giant bird catches you

it takes you a minute to realize that it’s Nue but when you do, you almost cry from relief 

yuji and fushiguro finished exorcising the curse when you got back 

you literally run to fushiguro and kiss him

he’s surprised but he holds you and makes sure you’re okay 

is SO relieved when you only have a few minor scrapes and bruises and no big injuries

expect him to be GLUED to your side after too

he’s not one for PDA but he’s holding your hand, hand on your waist etc.

saves you on a mission when your Grade 1 turned out to be 2 special grades

as a semi Grade 1 sorcerer you’re used to taking out Grade 1s and even some special grades on your own

so when you got an assignment to take out a Grade 1 you really weren’t worried about it

Gojo was though

he kept saying something feels off and not elaborating 

You shake him off cause let’s be real, it’s Gojo, and you go anyway

of course when you get there and take out the Grade 1 almost instantly just to realize you still feel a strong presence of cursed energy, you realize he was right

queue 2 special grades coming out of nowhere and attacking you

it’s all you can do to defend yourself and try to run away but they’re working together and keep blocking your path 

you’re thoroughly unsurprised when Gojo drops from the fucking sky

I love Kon but one think that really annoys me abt the comics is that they never acknowledged how messed up it was that he was dating older woman (Tana, Knockout) as a 16 year old. Does Kon even know it was wrong? WHERE WERE ALL THE ADULTS IN HIS LIFE WHEN THIS WAS HAPPENING!!

ugh yeah, i know his solo comic is not the only case of this happening, but its why i avoided reading his solo for a while (and why i prefer the latter half of his solo and his yj comics instead). and why im glad thats one thing we left in the 90s. so okay this is about to get into some fucked up things and general ranting about completely unnecessary comics bullshit so tw: grooming, p*dophilia, SA

So yeah, as much as I love him and his comics, i do have a lot of criticism for his solo. (but there are a lot of issues i do like so ill try to make a list of my faves one day)

in his solo comics, kon dates this 23/24 yr old reporter named Tana, and later has this brief fling with a villain named Knockout. And kon's character is obviously meant to be the "cool teen" which i guess in the 90s meant being into older women. That, or the writer is pushing his weird fantasies onto him, which happens quite a lot with comics (Idk comic book romances are usually so weird to me they push for really strange stuff). At the same time though, there was a letter i read from a reader at the time that expressed concern over letting kon date older women, bc they were worried his feelings would get hurt, as well as question why no one has really taken kon under their wing, so there were definitely people in the 90s that thought that shit was weird as fuck. But I also saw a recent comment from a dude that didn't bat an eye at it which says a lot about that guy like come on dude we r in the 2020s :/

Anyways, the thing with Tana frustrates me because it was such a missed opportunity for an interesting female character of Hawaiian ethnicity and they could have easily made her Kon's age and make her like a member of the highschool's newsclub or something, but the writer had to fuck it up and make it weird...Kon can be uncomfortably flirty in this era of comics, but the fact Tana returns it and even acknowledges their age difference and still pushes for it is even more uncomfortable. She even says she feels more like his mom at one point and even reports on his school activities. I mean when Kon is first introduced, she expresses concern that the news outlet is just taking advantage of him bc he doesn't know any better, and her boss says she's doing the same, but then she grows to care more about kon as a person :/ She only breaks up with him after his operation that gets him stuck at 16 for a while, because she doesn't wanna date a dude that will never grow up or mature, which is fucked up to me bc he is 16 of course he's immature T-T

But at the same time, this was never weird to the writer's mind, so he writes Tana as being superboy's guiding figure that sort of helps him learn about morals and about being a person. So she's still very important to him, i just wish it didn't have to be so WEIRD.

(Tangent, and not at all exclusive to superboy comics, but I truly do hate how women in 90s comics, especially those that are not white, are treated as 'exotic' almost, and while Tana was wrong for dating a teen, i also blame the writer in the treatment of her character, even if there were other Hawaiian characters present that I did like like Sam and Hillary)

Of course, the Knockout situation is like 10x more fucked up, because Tana was at least kind and caring to him, but Knockout straight up manipulates him. This one is even more uncomfy so i'd skip over #23-31 (tw for SA) if you wanna avoid it, but it does affect Kon a lot after. I think the writer was trying to lean into the "rebel bad boy" schtick by making Kon get swept up by a hardcore fury. They do have other characters address the situation, but they point out that it's bad to hang with a villain and run from the law rather than point out how he's being taken advantage by someone older than him. In this arc, Mae Kent/Supergirl says he's unworthy of being a Super, and he almost believes it. The ending to this arc is really intense tbh, bc kon slowly realizes how wrong it all is after knockout tries to get him to kill a person. he goes to confront her and she literally attempts to SA him, but instead they have a showdown in which kon attempts to drown the both of them in order to stop her, before saving her instead because he can't kill her (he never kills and shows empathy towards his antagonists). he's clearly shaken up by it, but the comic writes that he's mostly shocked that people could ever act like that, again never explicitly saying that her being older or sexually using him was fucked up, just that her being a villain was fucked up. But this arc did serve to show kon fight for what’s right and show that he is worthy of being a super, and that he’s lost some of his innocence but not his faith in good

anyways, i highly doubt any of this will ever be addressed in canon, bc as time goes on with comics, side characters such as these fade away to the point where they might not even have played a part in a character's life, so who knows. not only that, but this sort of stuff is just casually thrown into comics in general and barely ever addressed again? id like to say its only a 90s thing but ive read some 2000s stuff with other characters have weird shit too.

i think the closest thing you're ever gonna get is this panel of serling, who is kon's age and probably the only love interest i actually kinda liked, telling kon that she understands the feeling of meeting someone who's seen and done it all (like say, an older person) and how exciting that can be for someone like her and kon who have never really experienced real life, only to realize that there's often something far darker underneath. again, not explicitly stated enough imo, but its there and does imply why Kon got so easily taken advantage of and that he does realize on some level that it was wrong . (i could be missing other panels that address it but idk i just remembered this one mostly)

So yeah, sorry for rambling. it's just a very messed up situation. i do think it's weird that none of the adults stepped in and watched out for him more, but at the same time, the writer clearly didnt see the need to.

i don't blame people for ignoring it or leaving it out in their canons, bc you can still explore the "being taken advantage of" from different angles that aren't as uhhhhh gross but yeah that’s that sorry for the rant 😭

At least his appearances in yj comics are much happier ☹️

omg??? the 1k followers?? congrats!! def well deserved. anyway i just really want to say that you're def one of my fave writers. i remember when i first stumbled on your writing and it just blew me away. and i especially LOVE how you write your characters. each having distinct (and all delicious) personalities but also being a bit blank enough for the imagination to run wild. my fave especially is Edira. and ngl i've read and reread your works with her and still find myself being in mixed emotions with how she is.

You were getting far too close to your housekeeper as of late. At least, that's how it looked in the CEO’s eyes. The way you laughed with her, paid her extra on weekends, and even dared to exchange contact information. Edira had no idea how you could shamelessly be so flirtatious, unless you were somehow oblivious to your own mesmerizing charm. But that couldn’t be it; she knew you looked her way when you laughed with co-workers, wondering if she noticed. She never stepped in, aware that you would never go too far out of bounds. You probably thought you could do the same this time without a worry in your pretty little head. 

But something about this woman ticked Edira off more than usual. She barely even considered your co-workers as humans, nevertheless as people who were good enough to be a rival. But this woman, this specific housekeeper, out of all the others she’s hired before-- something about the way she gazed at you and called you by your first name only to refer to Edira as ‘miss,’ it aggravated your ‘lover’ to no end. Of course, she could always fire the woman and hire someone else-- but Edira knew that wouldn’t prevent something like this from happening again.

 And besides, she liked this game you were trying to play, trying to see how far you could go before she reprimanded you. A part of the CEO decided you must have wanted it-- wanted to garner more of her attention on you. She decided, perhaps, she hasn’t been making her claim over you clear enough lately. 

Though in reality, you weren’t trying to push Edira to anything-- you didn’t even realize your interactions with the housekeeper had upset her so much. Yes, her occasional complaint over how the woman seemed to take a strange liking to you was clearly a sign of discontent, but not to a point of jealousy. So it came as quite a shock when she attacked you one early morning, not yet dressed for work and covering you in layers of peppered kisses. Her sensitive bites had you whimpering whiny questions as to why she was so worked up. She demanded you give some in return, to cover her in marks that wouldn’t disappear by the time the cleaning staff came. 

You knew you were already on thin ice with how hard she glared down at you, her fingers pinching at your hip in an unconsciously threatening manner. Of course, Edira knew how to properly hide forms of lustful evidence in order to keep a professional look at work, but this time she didn’t. In fact it seemed she almost purposely wore a shirt with a low collar and a loose blazer. She made sure you wouldn’t try and cover yourself up despite your protests and looks of embarrassment.

 But the shame only amplified once your housekeeper came in for the day. She didn't voice her acknowledgement of the hickies and bruises on your skin, but had clearly noticed them from the look of awkwardness on her face. She made small-talk and asked for her duties, but nothing more. Instead of the giggles and witty comments she usually refuted back at you with, the housekeeper shifted uncomfortably and moved swiftly to work. 

Edira was still as stern as ever as the housekeeper began her tasks, scolding you and looking at you with a glare, but she dared not to let go of you as she did so. She made sure to chat it up with the maid, asking for her opinion as you were kept to her hip. You knew Edira would eventually create a fuss with how lenient she had been lately --letting you talk to the staff more and go to outings with coworkers--  but the way she pressed herself against you from behind, and made sure to kiss you in front of others at any chance she got, was far more public than what you expected. 

You just prayed Edira wouldn’t invite the housekeeper for some overtime, only to lead you into the back bedroom and make you moan her name loud enough for the woman to hear.

Who's your favorite character in a league of their own? Any hopes or dreams for them next season?

Oh this is a trick question because my favorite character is ALL OF THEM. If I'm choosing upper echelon, we're talking Greta, Clance, Max, Carson... which in itself is maybe a compliment to the writing team, because those four are also the most like main characters? I think it’s so easy on an ensemble to pick faves from the wings, and on a show like this the cast is a whole BUFFET of lovable, well-developed favorites. But those two co-leads and their other halves are rendered so lovingly and perfectly that they get full favorite status for me.

As for next season... there are 24 paragraphs of pondering under this cut. Enjoy?

I find myself playing a game of “what I would do” if I were on the writing team for the show, so I’ll go that route!

The first big question is: where do you pick up, given that S1 ends on SUCH a cliffhanger? I think it’s too unearned to skip ahead unless you use flashbacks and maybe too clunky to pick up RIGHT on the patio where we left Carson and Charlie. If it were me, I’d go flashbacks. I think I’d devote S2E1 to seeing what everyone has been up to in the off season, which lends itself well to skipping around in time/place and doesn’t make it seem like Carson is suddenly on an episode of Lost. But by the end of S2E1, you’ve gotta have the season starting, because it’s the whole point and will bring everyone together again. It’s time for everyone to be back with their teams again.

So what’s everybody been doing? I don’t think I have specific ideas outside Carson and Greta... those two I would have NOT communicate at all during the off-season, where they’re in their own identity storylines. Carson, I would have her wander wherever her playing wages would take her; Greta, she’s in NYC the whole time - each living a lifestyle more akin to the one the other had previously lived. Carson running, Greta staying still. Greta is probably thriving professionally in her job, but it’s probably in sales and she’s probably turning in the performance of a lifetime as a straight woman. I imagine that she invents a husband at war so that she can wear a ring and get clients and coworkers off her back, and I’d like to imagine that she takes great scathing delight in making up the most ridiculous Soldier Guy for her to be imaginary-married to, just absolutely LACERATING everything she hates about 1940s mainstream culture with this invented man she supposedly adores. 

Carson, I dunno. As for the Charlie of it all, it seems pretty obvious that they would be going their separate ways, however painful it’s going to be. Carson seemed to be on the way to spending the off-season without Charlie anyways, but now the truth of her affair (with a woman) is going to blow up any control she might have had over the situation, so it’s gonna be rough. I think Carson spends the off-season/S2E1 almost in exile, and we wonder if her sadness over Charlie might have overshadowed the thrill of liberation that her sojourning was supposed to bring her. But maybe we get some clarification on that before she returns to the league. Maybe she tracks down a Red Wright’s All-Stars schedule and travels to see Max pitch. We get a Max/Carson reunion, a reminder of the importance of The Five, and as Carson sees Max happy we get a glimmer of a reminder of what she’s doing all this for: she’s walking closer and closer to her true self. Let me watch Carson in front of a sunset and smile for the first time since the season ended, happy in this moment on her own embracing a newfound freedom!!

As for Max, that’s another huge question about the structure of S2! Can the Max/Carson connection continue to bridge the two narrative threads they’re leading? I would try to do it in small ways, but not bend over backwards to make it happen. I think the writers should trust that Max can carry half this show without a narrative tether to the Peaches. I’m not sure what that a S2 story arc would entail for Max. She made SUCH leaps in S1, and the arc ended so cleanly and satisfyingly for her at the end of the season. Where to go in S2, and telling different stories of baseball-on-the-road than S1? I’d like to see her relationship with Esther expanded a little more, so that Esther can get brought up to the status of a more developed character. What’s the dynamic with the teammates? Does Max struggle with playing for entertainment over competition? What racism does the team encounter as it barnstorms against white teams? All possibilities to explore.

One thing that seems clear about the larger story for Max is that she’s headed for the Negro Leagues. But it’s not quite time yet, I would think. Toni Stone didn’t join the Negro Leagues until 1946. There wasn’t as much opportunity for women in the Negro Leagues until the MLB integrated, which started in ‘47 with Jackie Robinson and didn’t gain traction right away. In ‘44, most of the Negro Leagues teams were on the east coast and midwest, and the West Coast Negro League wasn’t founded until 1946. (Fun fact! The West Coast Negro Leagues team was founded by Jesse Owens and Abe Saperstein, a Jewish basketball coach who also founded the Harlem Globetrotters. Saperstein was also a Negro Leagues scout for the manager of the Cleveland Indians looking to integrate the American League in 1947. Book rec for baseball history nerds: check out “Our Team” by Luke Epplin, which tells the story of the 1948 Cleveland team that won the World Series with former Negro League players Larry Doby and Satchel Paige. Doby was the second Black major leaguer after Jackie Robinson - and entered the majors overnight from the Negro Leagues, unlike Robinson, who went through a year of the minor leagues to prepare and adjust for the onslaught of racist abuse at the higher level.)

Anyways, I’d love to witness conversations about the plan to integrate the MLB, and shining a light on the tension between wanting equality for Black ballplayers, and the reality that the Negro Leagues would ultimately suffer for losing those players to the MLB. I wanna see Effa Manley fighting like hell to keep the Negro Leagues lucrative! It seems like an easy choice for a show about women in baseball, and Black women in baseball specifically. (Effa Manley co-owned the Newark Eagles with her husband from the mid-30s until 1948.) But I’m not sure that would be happening yet, so I’ll put that away for S3/S4. And maybe they’d shy away from direct portrayals of real people, since they didn’t really do that in S1.

In any case, one thing that is very cool about this time period in baseball, though, is that leagues are everywhere. A lot of Negro Leagues players actually played in Mexican and Cuban leagues, so it would be awesome if the show could weave some of those threads together and show more of the baseball community that existed (and maybe even bring in Lupe and Esti story points). Satchel Paige had a barnstorming team that was wildly popular, so maybe that’s something for Max to encounter before we get to ‘46. Who knows! There’s tons of historical material to uncover and get inspiration from, and I don’t even know most of it.

Of course, the historical reference aspect gives us some idea of what to expect for S2′s larger themes for the Peaches and AAGPBL. The league added two teams for the 1944 season, and publicity and media attention went up. Will Graham has already talked about their plans for S2 to show conflict surrounding the players living more in the public eye. It seems like Charm School will be back (because it was) and will involve elements of media literacy and public speaking that maybe weren’t as present in S1. In S1, the media only cared about Dove. But with the success of the league, it seems like players are going to be in the media. 

Naturally, it would seem that every queer character on the team is going to have to reckon with this, perhaps Greta and Carson most of all. Greta’s probably going to go on more dates with men, and Carson is going to have to Deal With It. I don’t think it would be a comfy season for Greta, because she’s in a long-term relationship for the first time ever (which I don’t expect she’s gonna handle super steadily) and she’s going to have extra public scrutiny on her image that she already curates SO much. Maybe Soldier Husband Overseas becomes useful for her during the season, who knows. But I imagine Greta will be A Little Too Good at media, and Carson will not be (at least at first), and it’s gonna cause conflict. And they’re not going to be able to go out on any dates. Greta’s not gonna want to be seen in public with Carson if there is the slightest threat of cameras around. 

Hopefully, though, the tension of living a queer life in a public world will not retread too many themes from S1. Maybe it will give a chance for Jess or Lupe or Jo to step into more screentime... without having their entire S2 arcs being about negotiating their identity for public consumption. 

Of course, there’s always the possibility that Peaches will be traded. It seems unavoidable, no, with two new expansion teams? Who will go to new teams, who will stay on the Peaches? Will they give story arcs or conflict to any new Peaches? It’s hard to imagine new characters getting a spotlight given that this is an ensemble with plenty of story to go around with the mainstays, but who knows. And who knows what conflict they’ll get from trades? At the same time, at what point does it become more beneficial to keep a core group of characters together because 50% of the show is built on the back of their team chemistry? It’s a hard call.

I’d say that if they want to emphasize the expansion of Milwaukee and Minneapolis (which ultimately fold after one season because of fractured management and lack of support in such big cities, so this is the only time to tell that story) then you’ve gotta put a POV Peach on one of them. Greta’s an obvious candidate because of the media angle - it would be pretty in-character if her shrewd eye easily identifies all the ways in which the branding/marketing of these teams is going to fail. Basically, as it happened, the teams in smaller markets got more publicity because they had less competition in the papers. It makes sense that the league would have tried to put their bombshell-iest player on a new team, only to have it backfire when the media there doesn’t care. Meanwhile, Carson and her complete inability to not ramble through a press question is struggling with laser-focus celebrity attention back in Rockford.

But also do the writers DARE put Carson and Greta on different teams, when so much of their season 1 arc is them choosing to be together? I think they might, tbh. Because now their choice to be together isn’t the conflict; it’s new conflict that makes that choice even harder and they have to stick with it. (But S2 definitely ends with Greta and Carson going off together in the off-season. They’ll end the season stronger, and have the chance to be together-together after that. In my version of this anyways, haha.) I just think if Greta and Carson stay on the Peaches and are subject to intense media scrutiny, it would recycle a lot of the conflict with them from last year. If they’re not in the same city, it lowers the stakes a bit and is less of a concern.

Another interesting question is the possibility that Carson will NOT be a coach, and how that affects her playing. She’d almost certainly butt heads with a new coach. But again, how do you make that a new story, considering what they did with Dove in S1 and how he was Very Much Not The Point. I don’t think this audience is going to care an iota about a male coach going in, so why bother? It’s an interesting dilemma. Maybe Carson stays a coach, which helps fuel the flames of media attention on her as a result. I do think it also makes sense to keep Carson in Rockford, maybe because it increases the possibility of Max-crossover for her. But who knows.

Anyways. Trading works best if you keep Peach clusters, so you can at least build on relationships the audience is already invested in. But which clusters do you pick? There are so many ways to slice it! I think the easiest choice is to keep Greta and Jo on different teams while they continue changing independently. The next thing that comes to mind is considering how to maneuver the queer characters so that they don’t all get isolated, but also so that their storylines aren’t solely about dealing with the threat of being outed. Both ends of that spectrum are depressing!

If it’s me, I’d send Jess with Greta: 1) Jess will hate the big city and Greta will love it and they will squabble; 2) Jess will find the queer spaces and coax Greta back into them (where Greta will make an amazing wingwoman); and 3) if they’re roommates, it gives Carson and Greta a little bit of protected privacy when the Peaches come to town. Also, with the expansion teams getting less media coverage than the original teams, Jess and Greta might have a little more breathing room with their vulnerability as queer players. (Aside: let’s say Jess and Greta go to the Milwaukee expansion. That team is called the Chicks, and the idea of Greta and Jess playing for the Chicks is hilarious. Greta will make one million jokes.)

I really love Lupe and Carson’s dynamic, in that it is SO hard-fought, and part of that journey was realizing that they have so much more in common than they thought. But again, you don’t really want any retread on stories from S1, and I think Lupe needs a S2 storyline independently. I’d love for Lupe to go to another team, maybe Racine, on her own where she can be a leader - AND, maybe there’s a new player who is a phenomenal hitter that makes them a huge threat, which delights Lupe to no end. She stirs up some friendly rivalry with the Peaches and Blue Sox; she and Jo WILL shit talk Carson. (I also want Lupe to make up with the Comets player from the bar. Give Lupe a serious relationship!! I think she is a secret romantic but stubborn about showing it.)

That leaves Esti, Maybelle, and Shirley. I think you keep Esti and Shirley with Carson, because a) I want Carson to learn Spanish to be able to communicate with Esti without Lupe, and b) Shirley will continue to stress Carson the hell out. Or maybe she won’t! I want to see how their dynamic has changed, and how Shirley has changed, after her growth last season. Maybelle, let’s send to Jo because they love each other so much. Reunion!! (But honestly, can we just keep all the Peaches together forever? That’s the dream.)

The only challenge with doling out the original Peaches is how to handle championships. Will this show ever tell a faithful ‘we won a championship’ sports arc? Maybe not, and I think that’s okay. This is not a sports show; this is a character show in the framework of sports. And sports shows have four options: Emotional victory, points victory, emotional defeat, points defeat. The best endings are gonna mix and match those. I don’t think they’re gonna go for emotional defeat outright. Maybe there’s one emotional victory, one points victory, and then the show transcends the need for focus on the winner of a championship, particularly if there aren’t enough focus characters on the team that wins.

As for non-baseball storylines, it seems very likely that Carson’s mom will make an appearance, because she’ll probably see Carson’s name in the paper somehow and show up at a game. I suspect the writers already know what Carson’s mom’s deal was, because the way she was referenced S1 was so specific yet nebulous, I think the writers had to have sketched out SOMETHING. There’s a lot there to work with, in that Carson’s mom was not willing to stay in her role as a housewife and chose some other dream instead. Her version of baseball. It fits her right in with every other character on this show. But what exactly was it?

Whatever it is, it’s gonna surge mixed feelings for Carson, and it makes you wonder if her father and sister have some culpability in Carson’s mom never staying in touch after she left. This seems ripe for a “I wrote you letters” situation where Carson’s dad or sister intercepted them and never told Carson, but who knows. Or perhaps the story that her mom “ran away” is a lie, and she was cast out and shunned... like Uncle Bert. So who knows, maybe Carson’s mom is queer too (shout out to @karatam​ for connecting THOSE dots!!). This show seems pretty unfazed about inviting more queer friends to the ensemble; Carson’s mom would just need to be distinct from Bert, Vi, and the other queer elders we’ve already met.

Regardless, I do think ultimately the goal for Carson’s character is to not be afraid of becoming her mom, which either involves therapy (a 1940s unlikelihood) or a more positive self-identification with her mom. She already hinted at the latter in her argument with Charlie when he says she’s got the same thing her mom has that made her run away. Carson says she doesn’t have as little respect for her anymore, because at least she wasn’t pretending. We’ve gotta go there fully this season, no?

Then there are the Rockford residents - the Chapmans, Clance, Bert and Gracie. We’re guaranteed Clance and Toni time, since Clance is pregnant and Toni is stepping in to support her. It’s gonna be a hard time for Clance with Max AND Guy gone, but I’m hoping we get some good scenes with Toni, and something else for Clance that isn’t just the pregnancy. I’d love to see her send her comics in to The Defender and have them published. I don’t think they would publish them under her name, which would piss her off at first, but the MINUTE Cecil comes bursting through her door raving about the newest comic in paper, she would be SO smug. I also love the idea of Clance having a kind of secret identity, like the superheroes she was writing about. And I definitely want Max to read The Defender every day for its comic, as a way of feeling close to Clance.

I’m also hoping Bert AT LEAST makes an appearance or two. I’d love for him and Toni to work through their issues more and ultimately repair their relationship, but I don’t know how feasible that is. Maybe Gracie takes Clance under her wing too, when she realizes why Clance has quit, and that gives Clance the opportunity to meet Bertie and grow more open-minded. I absolutely need Clance to accept Max for who she is whenever she finds out that she’s queer. I don’t think the show would deny the audience that, but it’s also suggested that Clance might just need a little adjustment time. Maybe Bert can help Clance get there and Clance has time to process without Max so that Max can experience her full acceptance when they do eventually talk about it.

Whew.

How does one wrap up a brainspill of this length? Regardless of anything, I trust these writers. And more than anything, I just want more time with these characters, together with each other as much as possible. So I HOPE they get a season 2, and I’ll be along for whatever ride they take us on. Let these scamps all play baseball again!!!

I've noticed that in majority white fandoms, it's always a shitshow when the WoC (it gets even worse when the woc is dark skinned) gets more praise/attention than the white woman.

They were all good with NC getting the cover, S3 leads being announced at a freaking FYC event, but as soon as Simone got more shine, then it was too much.

Related to this ask and added the other ask since it is about NC and the White Woman™ Shit she did.

So I’ve noticed this in my other fandoms too and while we are talking about the women, we have to note that at the end of the day, romance genre or not, the white guys always get the most amount of love and attention. See: Anthony getting away with fucking over both Edwina and Kate and the fandom still loves him. I mean I do too but I never hesitate to call him a bitch for it. Also I will admit it does mostly fall on the writers for even writing the engagement plot in with little to no consideration of writing a proper resolution and reconciliation for all three of them. 

And if you so much point this out, their fans come out of the woodwork to defend their faves like there’s no tomorrow it’s kind of intense and frustrating because you’re not even listening to some of these very valid concerns and are more focused on defending them. This applies not just to NC and her fans but like across all my fandoms where the white characters and their actors (not all of them are problematic but one or two others come to mind) are held up to this impossibly high pedestal that God forbid the other characters, especially the ones of colour are more popular than them. 

Actors aside, I also noticed within the fandom spaces be it fanfics, edits or fanart, the amount of content for white characters vs the POCs has a glaring gap and an amazing mutual of mine @boasamishipper did this incredible analysis on both the Star Wars and Top Gun fandom. While I need to run the exact numbers on Kathony, but I bet you a lot of the fics in the tag are Polio fics which is so fucking annoying, keep your racist ship out of our tags. 

To be honest comparing across my fandoms, Kathony is an outlier for being so popular. Mainly because they are beloved from the books but also how Jimone made them so powerful and a cultural reset couple for us today. Because usually, the characters of colours in my fandoms almost always end up being props and side characters to the white characters - even if its an ensemble show. The POCs are always supporting characters to the white ones without fail and its so fucking annoying that they wouldn’t even think twice to centre content around the POC co-leads and have the white characters be support to them. It’s definitely an unconscious bias most of the time but I need content creators to be aware of that and be more conscious about it and think about why they default to this dynamic of white main character and POC are only there to support them as a side character prop. 

Anyways that was a general tangent observation on how white characters and actors are always pushed front and centre even more by the fandom.

As for Polios and NC themselves, yeah I mentioned in the previous ask, Polios literally only care about their wins and live in their ignorant bliss because their privilege affords them that. Like having that experience isn’t a bad thing or makes you inherently bad, I just wish I could be that blissfully ignorant! What grates me is how they gloat and the way they gloat while tearing down the female characters of colour and their actresses - I’m mainly thinking of Kate/Simone and . They’re only supportive if the WoC is supporting their white fave and even then she needs to stay in her lane and not overshadow NC. At this point, the only way I can even being to respect Polios if they are actively being anti-racist, which they are not. They’re just happy to live in their ignorant bubble and occasionally throw around racially charged insults at Marina and then now want to use Kate to make Pen likeable to the family which gross stop using Kate as a prop to uplift the same asshole who called her a beast. 

I already talked about how I feel about NC crying on KC here but yeah it was awkward and shitty. And how with her crying, she centred the conversation to be about her. A conversation that wasn’t even directed at her or about her. Main Character Energy (derogatory) 🤮.

i usually wouldn't answer bc i don't love this debate on my blog, but i need to set something straight: when i say i believe babygate, i say that louis is a victim of insane closeting and character assassination in order to keep the million dollar brand that is one direction up and running with as many (gp) fans as possible. there are more than enough real stories from inside the industry that show it's very real for vulnerable people to get caught in the webs of suffocating contracts to the insane (as you said) extent that is louis's case.

and if you don't believe the photos that show a disappearing baby bump or a supposed mother who freshly gave birth look like she just did her ab workout (go check out halsey's post-birth photos for a realistic image), holding a baby carrier plus her phone up with two fingers, just look at it from the other side. if louis were a real father, wouldn't he do everything he could to keep his child away from the cameras? compared to other celebrities, don't you think it's odd how since the birth the kid has been displayed like that? or the pregnancy was advertised before any normal mother would even be sure enough to tell family? almost like they have to prove something. and i'm pretty sure that if louis actually had a child, something he's wanted since he was a teenager, he would cherish it and even have full custody over it, instead of leaving it with a proven irresponsible "mother" or the "grandparents" in question. but that's just my opinion

anyway, i'm not here to convince you of anything, you're totally allowed to believe what you want to believe. just don't come to my inbox and start the debate if all you have to say is that it's insane. i'm not out to fight, but i will defend that you might think i consider louis a fraud. i can't stand for that
