hey there - I've been thinking of listening to rqg thanks to all your excellent posts about it, but I've never listened to an actual play show before. can I ask. how do you do that. are there seasons? is it all one story and you have to start at the beginning?

but genuinely, i'm glad you asked! when i saw rqg from the outside before listening to it, i was also not really sure what it was.

rusty quill gaming is one long campaign (through not all actual play podcasts are!), and it is called "erasing the line." there are four seasons, although the seasons don't really have an equal number of episodes between them (season four is the longest). each episode is about forty minutes to an hour long, and they have mid-episode breaks, so if you can't listen for that long, you could totally pause it in the break and come back later.

you should definitely listen to it in order, and i suggest starting with the episode 0 metacast. moment of truth, i did not listen to that episode again on my relisten, i am listening to it now as i write this, but i do believe it contains Important Lore to understanding the story world, so i highly recommend starting there.

there aren't content warnings on the early episodes, but i think you can check the fandom wiki for a specific episode to see them, as fans have added them there (not sure if they're there for every episode though).

also there are kind of official transcripts on their website, but i am not sure how accurate they are as i have not read them. i know it was a Whole Deal with rusty quill (the company) to make transcripts, because they didn't do them from the beginning in 2015 and especially with something like actual play it can be hard and time-consuming to transcribe, and as there are over 200 episodes (including specials), there was also a big backlog. all this to say that there are transcripts, but i don't know if they are complete or very accurate.

apart from that, i will say that it is a little slow at the beginning, but if you give it a chance you may end up loving it :)

every time i so much as think about that scene where light looks at porn magazines while scowling i go into hysterics its genuinely the funniest thing i've ever seen

#the funniest thing is is that i truly believe he thought he was being 100% convincing. that that's normal behavior for a completely straight #completely allosexual man #light is fucking awful and i hate him but also there's nuance to him. and sometimes i can get a little like. oh thinking about his life #before the series. specifically factoring in my headcanons about him being gay aroace and autistic and stuff. ppl have written some rlly #good fics surrounding those topics.... but yeah thats not even canon stuff but i dont care #anyways its not in a way of making excuses for how he is i just think it adds more to his character #hes total garbage but i think theres really interesting stuff with him when it comes to how he's.... VERY disconnected from others #just in general. he's like aware of how to act ''normal'' on like the most textbook surface level without being like. Aware enough to #be able to make it more convincing. and as ridiculous as it is i do see some of myself in him in that sense #also that person who said light and L is just autistic guy who's been masking his entire life vs autistic guy who's never masked in his #entire life. LITERALLY EXACTLY. genuinely perfect way to describe them they are both so similar when it comes to this #but the ways they go about it are very different. light has been playing the part of the perfect son his whole life. L doesnt try to change #himself for anyone and doesnt care when people think hes weird. both of them arent very socially aware and havent had any real friends #their whole lives. its such a fascinating parallel between them #i could go on a whole fucking thing about how light was pretending to be someone he's not around his family and at school and everything #long before he got the death note BUT. i wont. at least not right now #jesus christ how did i go from laughing about him with the magazine to this. my bad #derailed my own damn post. idk swagever #will say rq tho. watched a vid on youtube that pointed out how light expected his family to think nothing of the fact that he's gone to #such drastic measures to hide his diary when making the plan with hiding the death note which is like #that level of dedication would NOT be normal. so the fact that light expects his family to think nothing of it......#i mean you could read that as light just once again being socially unaware. but it could also imply that light's family kind of Knows #he's hiding something and just doesn't address it. very controversial opinion here, but sometimes customer service workers are the problem 😶

#once again reminded to be nice to the customers #reminds me of a time a customer wasn’t mean but was really overbearing and took like an hour to finish assembling his gift #admittedly a very nice gift for his mother #part of that hour was him coming back to the store and wrapping the box right in front of me #and he was doing such a terrible job i just ended up helping him anyway #i had to ask my boss to stop me if he came back because i couldn’t tell this guy to fuck off because he was being nice #but that kind of nice where you say stuff like oh i must be so annoying right now #yeah you are get out i wanna sit down #hate this post especially because i absolutely cant be mean at my job because most of the people who do get on my nerves are parents #who usually have their kids with them #and i always feel bad whenever i have to raise my voice at children or teenagers #like im not perfect and i know my shortcomings but what is this post achieving #not to mention being a little rude is normal we get angry for a reason thats why customer service workers put up with it #that and we need to keep our jobs and pay rent #and deal with 50 more customers for the rest of the day #but then again i guess that customer i got impatient with has to deal with 50 more cashiers today so tough world #I agree with op but its one of those things that is such a little problem compared to the other bigger problem #IM JUST BEING TOLD TO BE NICE AGAIN #if you made it this far you should read Bright-sided by Barbara Ehrenreich #its about toxic positivity in the united states #like why is everyone in this country so opposed to being upset #dont get me started on food service #which is already a high stress environment #with most of the staff in kitchen not even getting the opportunity to have a word with customers #and the ones that do are usually teenagers anyway who should not be judged for giving attitude #like i started these tags from the mind of a retail employee #but now i remember i worked in food service #some of the nastiest stuff you hear from people day to day isnt even from customers but your coworkers #who may have to pick up your slack if you fall behind whether thats your fault at all #anyway cool sentiment but this post reeks of i-never-worked-a-customer-service job or i-did-but-im-complicit-in-worker-suffering

in general, the more "color" the scenes have, the closer it is to "real life" as opposed to the muted/hushed winter blues of maruki's reality

i.e. the dark frames w akira smiling and the very last panel are when reality sinks in: first for akira, then for goro

by the way this is long winter au but sumire is still brainwashed. this also works for canonverse but i just had long winter au in mind:o

youve heard of laundry and taxes now get ready for coffee and pastries

in every panel, akira is smiling! :) and goro is very much not smiling.

intentionally his face is hidden in the last 2 pages so its unclear whether it's the "ideal reality" already (akira/goro's daydreams/wants/desires), or if goro is still fighting akira on making sure he picks the right choice

the smoke from the first page kinda leads into the 3rd page omfg COMPLETELY UNINTENTIONAL BUT REALLY COOL LMAOOO

that's nameless and belladonna in jazz jin!!! i love them. I LOVETHEM. i miss them so bad is it obvious

the cafe is loosely based off of caffe strada @ uc berkeley LMAO. my parents used to take me there a lot as a little kid so that's the first cafe i think of when i imagine one. its like right on the streetside, basically on the sidewalk, so its very bustling and people are always walking by... probably a little disconcerting to see everyones summery bright smiles despite the bitter cold and snow

in long winter AU, the Ideal Reality starts before 1/1 so yeah they get to see the new years fireworks together (or something)

also intentional that they wear the same winter outfits in the whole comic although it Probably does not take place at the same time. in maruki's snowglobe, time seems frozen in place... but akira and goro are both acutely aware that the sands are running thru QUICK

goro's frustrated expression on page 3 is one also of disdain: "don't speak FOR me you fucking imbecile" type of expression.

goro, who's never lived a normal life and therefore doesn't know much abt "normalcy" nor really actively seeks it. this 3rd semester is basically purgatory for him and he doesn't care to try and go through the motions the way akira does. akira what do YOU know about the type of "normalcy" i deserve? how do YOU know if i "deserve" that?

im thinking that this is a naive akira who is mostly set on taking the deal because he feels hopeless... seeing all his friends with good happy lives while goro and himself are alive and miserable and shouldering the weight of the world during the horror of long winter......

oh but if he takes the deal they could all be good and alive and happy!!!.... and goro knows this. i feel like in any other universe (i.e. akira is 100% certain on not taking the deal and goro knows this) then goro would be happy and carefree to do these little indulgences for himself and akira's sake, to just enjoy the snowglobe world while it exists.

but this goro is discontent. he sees how akira is enjoying the snowglobe and knows maruki is depending on this. goro has to be the one to remind akira that none of this is his to keep........ in this fucked up world, routine is dangerous. becoming comfortable is dangerous. they cannot keep any of this.

on that note, goro says "i hate you" in a halfhearted sort of way (it's not true and akira knows that.) but he's trying to think of a way that he can dissuade akira from picking the wrong choice.....

and i think the thing is, goro thinks all of this, but he still falls into the rhythm of routine with akira anyway. in a way, goro feels hopeless too.

all of this is maruki's doing........ paralyzed by the inability to choose... whatever you do, you lose. goro needs to hold akira at arm's length so the stupid sentimental fool doesn't get too attached and falls into the wrong universe. akira needs to make a concentrated effort to detach himself from goro even though he wants the simplest thing in the world: just one more unremarkable day with him. it's lose-lose..........,

also i liked drawing the tentacles in the last pic the freaking blue lines on them were SO satisfying to draw

edit: also the last page: the blood flooding the panel….. the idea of the ideal world being built off of the blood and sweat and tears and bodies of the people who could have been. of those lost in the actualization, of those destroyed, of those stitched together and brought back to life. all just for a little false happiness. goro sees it but akira doesn’t, and it’s a grim sight.

Request: One of my friends has this little circular tin container of lip balm, right, and when she uses it she kisses it. Her boyfriend always thought it was really weird bc "what if someone else wants to use it?" Why would she share it?? Could you do headcannons on how Damian would react to reader using a lip balm like that? Especially when she's getting ready in the morning (or evening for a Wayne Gala or sum) or just reapplying her lip combo throughout the day. A/n: IM SO SORRY! This request has been sitting in my inbox for a HOT minute. I’ve been obsessively writing for @msfantasy-anime … whoopsies hehe. Anyway I do the same *shrugs* I ain’t touching my lips with my fingers— I permanently live with acrylics on and I use carmex with my lip liner because it bends and swells my lips! Anyway here’s the story.

You really didn’t think twice about it.

Pulling out the yellow Carmex tin from your brand-new handbag, you kissed the inside, swirling the balm slightly to ensure your lips were sufficiently coated before rubbing your pillowy lips together. The familiar tingly sensation spread across your lips, making them feel fuller.

Satisfied, you snapped the lid shut and tossed the tin back into your bag.

It wasn’t until you leaned back into the couch that you noticed someone staring.

Steph.

Your best friend sat frozen, her expression a perfect mix of horror and disbelief.

“Uh—Steph?”

“Okay—pause the goddamn movie—what was that?!” she demanded, voice flat, eyes locked onto you like you’d just committed a crime. Duke scrambled for the remote, pausing right at the climax of the film.

Heat rushed to your cheeks under the sudden scrutiny. “What?” you asked, glancing at the rest of the Batfamily, who were now equally intrigued, watching the exchange like it was the main event.

Steph flung a finger in your direction. “You! Putting your whole ass lips into that tin like it was your first kiss!”

You blinked, tilting your head. “Huh…?”

“Leave our little weirdo alone, Steph,” Barbara interjected. Though, judging by her smirk, she wasn’t exactly defending you.

“What’s the issue?!” you huffed, feeling strangely attacked.

“The issue,” Steph said, enunciating every word like she was explaining basic math, “is that you kiss your lip balm. Like, what?! Just use your finger like a normal person!”

Your face twisted in disgust. “Ew! My finger? Do you even know how much bacteria lives on your hands? There’s no way I’m touching my face let alone my lips. Besides, how am I supposed to use my fingers it with these?” You held up your freshly manicured nails for emphasis.

“But what if someone else wanted to use it?!” The Batfamily turned to you, awaiting your retort like this was a fricken tennis match.

Before you could respond, your boyfriend beat you to it.

“Why would she share it?” Damian asked, voice cool, possessive. “There is absolutely no reason anyone else would need my girl’s lip balm. These lips and anything they touch are mine.”

“UGH—CRINGE!” Jason groaned, throwing his head back. “How do I unhear that?”

Duke sighed, exasperated. “Pausing the movie right when the main character is about to die, just to discuss how Y/n applies her lip balm, is not okay.”

And just like that, the Batfamily launched into a full-blown debate over what actually justified pausing a movie.

ok im going to be brave and not be on anon for this because i need to send screenshots as i rave about how INSANE ABOUT THE REDRAW IS. IM NOT OKAY. HOLY SHIT IT WAS SO GOOD. i went frame by frame to compare and im losing my mind because the two year improvement is so OBVIOUS and im like. balls to the walls insane. (i hope this was okay i'm so normal i swear but this was just SO COOL. and showed so much growth i need to speak about it because it was so cool and i was very inspired hi) first off, i didnt even REALIZE it was a redraw. the original was just that good in my mind. i saw it, saw your style and didnt even QUESTION the jump in quality cuz "ah yes ofc thats always been how i saw it in my head" anyways. i have things im literally clawing at the walls for. first things first! GOING INSANE AT HOW OBVIOUSLY YOU IMPROVED IN ANATOMY UNDERSTANDING

LOOK AT THIS. THIS IS SO COOL. THE DETAILS. THE IMPROVEMENT. THIS IS SO INSPIRING. IM GOING INSANE. when i read the og i LOVED the way the hands moved, but the change makes so much SENSE. i love how theres less tension in the redraw, it feels like he's being casual about it. he's calm, he's not kickstarting his engines like he's eager to rock konig's shit!!!! his body is more serious and relaxed, it feels less flirty and more a genuine lesson he wants to teach konig to help the guy out again, the ANATOMY UNDERSTANDING!!!!!

improvement goes SO hard im staring im staring im staring but also haha i see that you drew the right hand this time its not cut off heehee BUT ALSO THE BODY LANGUAGE. in the og he doesnt look tense he just looks uncertain, in the redraw he looks like a startled meerkat standing at attention and again AUGHHHH IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE IN CONTEXT OF THE PLOT HERE. CUZ YEAH HE JUMPED TO ATTENTION WHEN GHOST CALLED HIS NAME YOURE SO CORRECT IM GOING INSANE AT HOW YOU MANAGED TO CONVAY THAT IN THE REDRAW. but also slay you kept his slutty little waist yippee we never stray far from the source material HUIEHFDIEURFIER ugh i LOVE the soap redraw

in the redraw they feel so much more weighted and aged and grounded and im clawing at the ground CUZ WHOA LOOK AT THAT JUMP IN UNDERSTANDING AT LIKE THE PLANES OF THE FACE AND STUFF WHOAAAAA YOU CLOCKED IN FOR THESE TWO YEARS I LOVE HOW IN THE REDRAW HE TILTS HIS HEAD UP he looks so SMUG and sure of himself it shows off so much CHARACTER UGHHHH HIS EXPRESSIONS FEEL UNIQUE AND BELIEVABLE FOR HIS CHARACTER also heehee i see hand improvement (slay!) i LOVE the head swivel cuz it feels like his eyes are!! leading!! us!! to where!! we should be looking !! next!!! i love how theres so much more tension in the way you draw figures. it feels so purposeful. i love the bunching of muscles as they interact with each other and the slight camera angle change that makes you FEEL the weight of ghost pressing down. i love the change in expressions too!! it feels like konig is taking this seriously and actively struggling against ghost's grip and IUGHH i could go on forever but also HEE HEE HANDS!!! I LOVE THE CHANGE IN ANGLE I AM SCREECHING I AM FROTHING AT THE MOUTH I FEEL SICKKKKK. THAT PERSPECTIVE CHANGE IM GOING INSANE ITS SO DYNAMIC IT FEELS SO GROUNDED i love how your character interact with each other and the way you draw the give of flesh and cloth is so :((( IS SO. love the perspective change again love how CLEAR AND CLEAN IT IS TO REALLY FEEL KONIG BEING CHOKED (slay) AND THE NEW PERSPECTIVE CREATES SO MUCH TENSION IN FORM AND ADDS SO MUCH TO THE STORY AND AND i love the slight change in konig's pose cuz he's still trying to break free and in the redraw its like a show of ghost's strength and skill that he's not budging even when konig is making a genuine effort AND AND IM. IM SO. UGHHH ITS JUST DONE SO WELL OKAY. HEEHEE THE HAAANDSSS i love how you posed them a little differently to give the readers clear view of what theyre both doing while still keeping pretty much everything the same

BUT ALSO THE BODY LANGUAGE. in the og (i loved this shot of the og btw it still goes hard) he looks slumped over, it feel passive, its like he's defeated and just letting ghost whammy him into the ground over and over which is real but the redraw adds so much DETAIL AND STORY OKAY ITS SO AUGHHH LIKE LOOK AT THE LITTLE WORD ADDITION I FORGOT THE NAME it makes it feel like he's trying to catch his breath and also like he's moving instead of being slumped over and it shows he made an EFFORT in the spar like lOOK HE'S BREAKING A SWEAT HE DOESNT LOOK DEFEATED IT JUST LOOKS LIKE HE'S STRAINING WHICH HE SHOULD BE CUZ HE'S PARTICIPATING IN THE LESSON ITS SO REAL ITS SO IUERHFIUREHFGIURFGRIUGIU ITS SOOOOOO. but also heeehee ghost is so burly in the redraw i love how you gave him a little bit of pudge but thats not the point here sorry i got distracted AUGHHH THE HAAAAAANDS sorry ive been struggling with hands recently and seeing you draw them so well is making me spin circles in joy

BUT THIS. THIS SHOT. UGH. I LOVE HOW HE HAS HIS HAND BRACED AGAINST THE GROUND AND ITS LEANING BACK IN THE REDRAW. he looks shy and startled instead of nervous and uncomfortable AND THATS SO. ITS SO STORYTELLING ITS SO PEAK POSING ITS SO IMPROVEMENT ITS SO. i really struggle with having characters interact believable with the things around them and the redraw just shows how weighted and grounded your art feels and and its so inspiring actually sorry if i keep using the same words but its TRUE love the realistic change of the mask being yanked from the chin instead of grabbing ghost's face and also i love how much more real? the fabric looks bunching in his hands AND ALSO EEE the HANDSSS

but also i cant reall say anything here that i havent said above so instead is repeating myself like a freak i will scream and shout into the void unintelligibly AUGHHHHHH THE POSES THE HANDS IUIE3RIHFTRIUGTUG EEEEEEEE THE ACTION LINES I DONT KNOW WHAT THEYRE CALLED BUT AUGHHH THEY ADD SO MUCH LIFE AND MOVEMENT AUGHHHHH. HEEE HEE HANDS but also i love how he looks angry/intense here instead of shocked like the redraw. its a lovely reminder he is, at the end of the day, a dangerous violent guy in a violent profession. very cool 10/10 change

skipping over ghost being pinned cuz i have nothing better to say than "heehee. nice." and im getting dangerously close to the 30 picture limit ugh i LOVE how you draw ghost looming every frame he's in. he's such a solid undeniable presence that feels so correct with his character. i love how he's so looming he's covering most of konig which adds to the feeling of konig scrambling back like YES. THIS IS SO CORRECT. i love how in the redraw konig's hands are tucked to his chest instead of waving like he's trying to make himself smaller and less of a threat. VERY COOL. very sick. very nice.

to end it off, i love how smug you redrew johnny. like look at that fuckass smile. look at that SMIRK. that eyebrow raise johnny i know what you are. i also love how the long mullet propaganda from the monster au came back to haunt the redraw 10/10 excellent wow that took so long to put together holy shit. "me saying this means nothing" it means everything jelly...(i hope its okay i call you jelly, i went to your blog to see what you like to go by bc after such a long and thoughtful message i felt like i couldn't not refer to you by your name). ive been having a real tough time for a while struggling with my relationship with my own art and my stamina and how things that used to come so quickly and easily seem to come so much slower and. just the fact that someone out there feels so much about my work that they'd sit down to write such a long message (with screenshots!!!!) means so much more than i could put into words...like you interpreting all the little things like slight alterations in posing or angles and even the shading like...the care....im just so touched

im really so unbelievably grateful and happy over this message, it made me genuinely grin from ear to ear seeing you appreciate all these little details and my art improvement and god, you saying you've been watching my work for half a decade is OOFT but so, so humbling and kind. and. yeah uhhhh thank you so much? for all of this? and being here still, somehow? i just. yeah. im kinda just lost for words. thank you so much. what a wonder it is to be perceived...
