I suddenly started re-listening to the very first preview of DC tryout of If/Then and I love how everything was slower and quieter and redundant and I can feel the audience being so so confused (they didn’t even know there’d be two storylines in this show... poor guys)

I wish the very first version of the libretto is somehow leaked... I need it...

I always wonder why they changed Beth being her college nickname to just a “serious name”, but I guess it’s because they wanted to make it clear that both Liz and Beth verses are her brand new life

Liz: “does she (Kate) do this all the time?” Anne: “just a tip of the iceberg!!!” (I’m pretty sure this isn’t the correct quote)

I like that they changed some of Beth’s solo parts in MoNY to ensemble’s parts because I adore the ensemble in this song (so I will forever complain about how they cut the best ensemble part from this song on the tour... why Michael why Brian why Tom??? I’m glad in the published libretto they put it back where it came from)

Lucas uses a cab to rush to Beth but can’t pay

Most of the interactions between Beth and Lucas were rewritten and I can see they worked a lot on these characters to make them not too unlikable but not too likable (does this make sense???)

Elena do the same thing with Beth as Beth did when Stephen told her romance the site or whatever

Story of Jane is such a fun song (but I know NMWT works much much better and Brian why did you think it’s a good idea to give her another name when she already had two)

Right nooooow right heeeeere I don’t like this song. It didn’t really work.

The fact that they moved the plane accident episode from the beginning of Act 2 to the later scene tells how they didn’t write this show to tell a story... or stories... or even characters... because all the scenes and changes really make sense if you think about this show as, quoting the earliest tagline, a “musical about how choice and chance collide"... This show is about concepts. The plane scene was moved, not because it was needed to move the story forward or develop the characters, but to make it a bigger and more reasonable impact that affects the characters’ lives and choices to tell about choices and chances... ok I stop blabbering nonesense

45 M/M Gay Movies, Ranked

The other day I bit the bullet and decided to watch Brokeback Mountain for the first time. All I knew about that movie was that it was basically the CMBYN of yesteryear and somebody got killed with a tire iron. Anyways, so I finish the movie and realize that I’ve seen a *lot* of gay movies, especially in the last couple of years. So here are my rankings according to nothing but my personal preference. I won’t write about all of them, but you can ask about something if I leave it out.

I wish I could give you a rubric for this. The reality is, there are some radically different movies on this list with different tones and intentions. There’s buddy comedies, tearjerkers, small indie features, big theater releases. So trying to rank them all is TUFF.

The Way He Looks - Such a beautiful coming-of-age movie. Maybe the 2nd one I saw on this list? Perfect length, perfect characterization, simple yet compelling, clever. And nothing feels better than reaching a happy ending (for once, because some of these movies’ endings-- SHEESH) that’s been earned. It just hasn’t been topped.

2. God’s Own Country

3. Pride

4. Kanarie - Yea, we don’t talk about this movie enough. It’s one of the most recent that I’ve seen. Beautiful. The way that it references apartheid and the war to reflect the protagonist’s feelings? Flawless.

5. Jongens - The first movie that I saw on this list, gets many a bonus point for that.

6. Moonlight - Yes, I am black. Yes, I understand this movie may be too low. Moonlight kind of scares me. In general, there’s not nearly enough discourse surrounding this one for me. But while it’s not exactly a popcorn-muncher, to me it’s the most personal movie on the list. When I look at Chiron and all that he’s been through, I can’t help but draw parallels to my own story up to this point. It holds a mirror up to me in a way that no other movie on this list does. That makes me uncomfortable.

But it is so poetic. Have you guys seen the script for this? The directing, the SOUNDTRACK, the acting. Phenomenal. 

7. Weekend

8. Call Me By Your Name - Yes, I am aware of people’s beef with this one. Yes, I understand a lot of people may feel this one is overrated. While I do think this one gets worse on rewatch, the truth is, it’s not really *that* overrated because hot take: most (meaning over half) of the movies on this list range somewhere from “just okay” to “painstakingly bad”.

It’s the score, the cinematography, the subtext in most all of the dialogue, the acting, the way that you can smell the apricots through the fucking screen. People who say this movie is a vacation ad are fucking CORRECT. One of my biggest gripes however is that it’s too fucking long. And uh, that age difference...

And Armie Hammer’s a weirdo...

9. Dating Amber* - Dating Amber has one of those “Duh” premises that sounds like it could’ve been done like 30 times before yet I can’t think of any other examples of it. So what you’d think would be a wacky premise actually turns out to be a frankly poignant movie with an emotional story arc for the main two characters.

10. Hello Stranger: The Movie* - This movie, which is the first sequel (sorta) on the list, frankly had no business being as good as it was. Even though the web series is required viewing, I felt the movie fixed like all of the series’ issues: pacing, lack of compelling drama, the awkward quarantine format. The drama and stakes are there without us having to visit Angst City. And the theme and the ending reprise is HEAT.

11. Uncle Frank* -  Uncle Frank is like The Help of gay movies. Like The Help, it’s *overall* a short, sweet and fluffy movie set decades ago. Like The Help, you’ll still come out of it feeling pretty good even though it has some dark moments. Also like The Help, you’ll wonder after the fact if the central white girl absolutely needed to be so...well, central for this story to be told. Bonus points for Paul Bettany and Character Actress Margo Martindale.

12. Brokeback Mountain - Tragic.

13. Moffie - Set during the South African border war, same as Kanarie. You even hear the word “moffie” throughout Kanarie. Anyways, this is a war movie for the gays, and a very intense watch. I liked that it was a much more realistic view of what a soldier endured during that period, and of course on the flip side I thought it was more thorough in its depiction of the rampant racism. I gotta find a good book on this era.

14. A Moment In the Reeds

15. Get Real - Maybe the most out of place movie on the list. I need to rewatch it. I do recall absolutely loving the score, however. Like, I fucks with this:

16. Freier Fall - When I finished Brokeback I was like, “Wait, wasn’t that just Free Fall with extra steps?” And yea, it kinda is. But even discount Brokeback is still pretty good.

17. Beautiful Thing - There are few things to like about this one, the relationship between the two guys, the mother’s love for her son even though it’s not all rainbows, that nice little final scene. I did not care for the dark-skinned woman being portrayed as, you know, the drug abusing, school dropout, gossipy, butt of jokes neighbor. But that guy really looks like Tom Holland tho.

18. Love, Simon - It’s at this point that I move from “Yea, that movie is good, you should watch it!” to “Look, you may like it, you may not.”

19. The 10 Year Plan - This movie is so fucking cheesy that there was cheddar coming though my speakers. But when I think of “Hallmark/Lifetime, but for the gays” this is the crown jewel. There’s some other movies on this list that could’ve taken some notes.

20. The Christmas Setup* - The trend of fluffy-white-gay-cable-network-movie continues and in good form. It’s not deep. It’s not really thought provoking. It’s cute. Fran Drescher is there. You should watch it.

23. Alex Strangelove - In a unique twist, the emotional core of this one is arguably between Alex and his girlfriend. All that ends up happening, however, is we the viewer keep wanting more Alex/Elliott scenes; those are the most electric in the whole movie. The end result is a hot yet endearing mess.

24. Fair Haven

25. The Thing About Harry - Freeform’s attempt at making a cheesy rom-com for the gays. It’s...okay. I personally feel like the main character’s friend is highkey trifling but it’s whatever.

26. Your Name Engraved Herein* - So I guess I’ve decided I officially hate angst. I mean, I get how it’s often necessary to tell an effective story, but I’m just not here for 2 hour indie angst fests that get passed off as “high art” anymore. I cannot do it. Somehow this is Brokeback’s fault...there just has to be a better way to tell gay stories in the 2020′s. Anyways, the last song was fuego.

27. The Perfect Wedding - Easily the most bizarre movie on this list. It’s so bad, I liked it a lot.

28. Naz and Maalik - The first half of the movie with the two leads just riffing is some pretty great stuff. The back half starts throwing plot developments that are just less than interesting.

29. My Best Friend

30. The Curiosity of Chance

31. Being 17 - Boring. Angsty.

32. And Then We Danced

33. Center of My World - Has some of the most trifling characters EVER. I was so angry. This movie for me has *0* rewatchability.

35. 4th Man Out - This movie was basically “a bro/Hangover-style movie, but for the gays.” I absolutely love the intention, but the execution was a little shoddy. One day we’re gonna get a flawless movie that nails what this movie was going for. I hope we remember this movie whenever that day comes.

36. Latter Days - So fucking preachy. 

37. GBF - Another bizarre one, but at least this movie gets how wacky it is.

38. Beach Rats

39. Shelter - I’ve noticed a lot of people like this one. To that I say...yikes. Remember that scene from Family Guy where Peter says he doesn’t care for The Godfather? I did not care for Shelter. It insists upon itself (not really, but still).

40. Handsome Devil

41. Esteros - It’s at this point of the list that we shift from “Movies that are the definition of ‘ight’ “ to “These movies are bad. Bad. BAAAAAD.”

42. Monster Pies

43. Were the World Mine - I couldn’t even finish it. Wanna watch a better musical? Go watch Kanarie. Wanna watch a better Shakespeare adaptation? The Lion King is the movie for you, or even fucking She’s the Man.

44. North Sea Texas - So boring. I actually think this one may need a rewatch, because I swear it shouldn’t have been as terrible as it was.

45. Salvation Army - I have no idea what this movie was going for. I understand that it is autobiographical, however...it simultaneously barely has any plot or character developments. This one has shades of Beach Rats, but it’s significantly worse, and I didn’t even like Beach Rats that much.

She’s a survivor who’s run away from people and bad situations all her life due to living in an apocalyptic setting and trauma and fear of getting hurt, telling herself that this way she was safe and people wouldn’t her and she wouldn’t get hurt if she kept going off her own and onky relying on herself and not trusting Anyone, at the price of severe loneliness. She’s a Hungry Young Girl, she’s been through a lot and she doesn’t take shit from anybody and keeps her walls up.. that is, until she meets Orpheus and reluctantly starts letting her guard down, she slowly starts freeing herself esp from livin it up on top (the choreography shows her starting to show her fun self more) onward and becomes fully vulnerable in all ive ever known when she opens up to Orpheus and- Wait fuck I might actually stop here bc this is starting to sound and make me think of potentially making a Eurydice character study LMAO, which 👀. But anyway!! Why do I like her? Bc I personally relate A Lot to her and her arc, and she’s really well written and I love how Anaïs made it so that the character had agency contrary to the myth! Very Cool. Major comfort character 1000/10 I love her

“I think today should be our last session.” Jeno said as he and Yeeun began what he was deeming their last workshop. There was nothing more he could help her with and the rest was now up to her own practicing.

“Are you sure? I still think I need..” Yeeun started but Jeno cut her off. 

“Your moves and timing are fine Yeeun.” Jeno said, “You just need to have more control. For someone who spends a lot of her time with a dance club outside our academy, your control seems to be the most lacking. That’s something I can’t fix.” 

She wasn’t going to admit that it hurt but it did. To hear something like that from someone she liked a lot hurt just as much and she frowned. 

“So this is it then?” she asked and bit her lip, “Is there…” 

She was cut off by the sound of a phone ringing and she watched Jeno run to the stereo to answer it, “I thought you said we had to keep our phones on silent.” she commented.

“I set my phone so that Y/N’s calls ring every time. I trust her enough not to call me during class or when she knows I’m busy unless its an emergency.” he said and quickly picked up, “Hey, what’s up?”

“Sorry to bother you...Seol and Nal got out.” he heard you say over the line.

“Crap.” Jeno said facepalming, “Where are they?” 

“My house...” you said innocently and Jeno groaned.

“You stole my cats again? What about Bongsik?” he asked, preparing for your answer.

“Oh, she actually got out. Hana’s looking for her  around my yard and I’m looking for her around yours.” you said and Jeno rubbed his temples, “When did she become an outside cat? She used to hate being close to open doors.”

“I got a leash and started taking her on walks cause she was getting too fat. Anyways, thanks for telling me. Text me when you find her and don’t forget my clothes. I’ll kill you if you can’t find her.” Jeno fake threatened and smiled when he heard you giggle.

“Would you really kill me though?” you asked innocently.

“Nah, then I wouldn’t have anyone pretty to sit behind in English.” he responded automatically not knowing the effects of his words on both girls that heard it.

After a moment of silence you cleared your throat, “Anyways, I’ll let you get back to your workshop. See you in like an hourish.” You hung up before he could even say goodbye.

“Sorry about that.” Jeno said, turning to Yeeun, completely missing the hurt in her eyes, “Shall we get started?”

“So is this...really our last session?” she asked Jeno once the two were done. Jeno was reading your text about how you found Bongsik sitting on one of the chairs on your patio and was now safely back in his house. Seol and Nal however, were apparently in your napping and you didn’t have the heart to move them.

“I have to give my progress report to our instructor next week and I see no reason why you need more help. It’s all on you now.” Jeno answered and froze when he felt arms wrap around his waist, “Yeeun…”

“I just thought...we’d get closer…” she said, her voice shaking from the nerves, “I’ve had a lot of fun with you these last few weeks and figured we had a connection.” her grip tightened and Jeno looked to the door. If anyone walked in at that moment they would probably get the wrong idea. Little did he know…

Gently but forcibly removing her arms, he turned around and gently pushed her back by her shoulders so there was a distance between them, making her squirm under his gaze. 

“I’m not sure what gave you that message...and I’m sorry if it seemed like I led you on. But Yeeun, I never felt that way about you.” he said and saw the hurt in her eyes.

“But you could try right? Even if we don’t continue the workshops, we could always just hang out. See if somethings there?” she tried and Jeno sighed. 

“I wouldn’t be able to feel that way about you when a part of my heart is already with someone else.” Jeno stated and Yeeun froze, her mind going to the one other person she knew. 

“It’s that Y/N girl right?” she asked with furrowed eyebrows, “How can you say that when you’ve only known her for a few weeks? You probably don’t even know her past.” 

“Is that what you really think?” he asked, confused, “Everyone knows that Y/N and I grew up together.” 

“Y-you grew up together?” Yeeun stuttered, surprised, “So that means that your childhood love that everyone talked about was…” 

Jeno nodded, shoving his hands in his pockets knowing he had to be completely with Yeeun and himself, “I’m sorry if it seems like I led you on or anything it was never my intention, but I can’t be with someone else knowing that I still have a chance with her.” 

A knock on the door interrupted their conversation and you peeked your head in, noting Yeeuns red face.

Clearing his throat, Jeno made his way over to you, “Hey did you just get here?” 

What he didn’t know was that you and Hana had arrived quite a bit earlier and saw the whole confession. When you saw Yeeun wrap your arms around him, it took a lot in you not to run in there to rip her arms away but another part of you wanted to see what Jeno would do. You were surprised by his own confession and how he handled the situation as a whole...just maybe...

“Was I interrupting?” you asked quietly motioning to Yeeun who looked uncomfortable in your presence.

Jeno let out a sigh and shook his head, offering you a tired smile, “I’ll tell you later?” 

“Throw in hot chocolate and you have yourself a deal.” you said smiling, making the tiredness in Jeno decrease significantly and handed him the bag that contained his change of clothes, purposely brushing your hand against his, catching him by surprise.

“Thanks.” he said looking at your hoodie and leggings combo, his eyes narrowing, “That wasn’t the hoodie I gave you earlier…” 

“I found this one in my bedroom when I was changing. Not my fault you’re leaving clothes all over the place.” you retorted, “Plus, this one looks better on me.” you stuck your tongue out playfully making Jeno chuckle.

“Shall we get going then?” Jeno asked and you nodded “I’ll get changed after. The guys are probably fooling around and waiting.”

“Are you guys going out?” Yeeun asked suddenly, noting Jeno’s hand that was resting on the small of your back, ready to lead you out. 

“Yuta rented out a private room at some restaurant so a large group of us are getting dinner,” you said, even though you didn’t like her, you liked seeing the way she reacted when you were kind to her, “Do you want to come with?” you asked with a smile before Jeno could stop you.

Wanting to see if what Jeno said was real or not, she agreed.

“Cool, why don’t you get changed and then meet us at the NCT practice room?” you suggested just as your phone went off and an all too familiar name popped up, “On second thought,  I have to take this. I’ll meet you guys at the practice room.” you said and quickly left the room to find a private place.

“My dear Jongin, how are you?” you answered and heard the person on the other line chuckle.

“I’m fine my lovely Princess, do you have time to chat? I’m actually on my way to Korea right now and I’d like to meet with you and the alien when I finish a few meetings.” Jongin said and you could hear the sound of the airport through the line, “How do you guys like SMAA?” 

“I have a bit of time. I’m meeting a few friends for dinner and Renjun’s probably on the phone with Mia.” you answered, “SMAA is exactly how you described it to be. It’s just...a clash of the past and present and I’m not sure where I stand in all this.”

“Right, Mia told me something about that. Childhood friends meet your camp friends meet your boarding school friends.” Jongin said, “Anyways, it’s that time of year again for the Selects Junior team and if I recall, after this year, you will no longer be considered a junior.” Jongin started.

“That is correct, as long as I pass the year that is.” you confirmed, “What does it have to do anything?”

“The board was talking about what ballet they wanted to showcase for the season and someone mentioned Swan Lake. As you recall, you were our lovely Princess two years ago and before I continue, this is from the board, I had nothing to do with this.” Jongin disclaimed and for some reason, you had a feeling you weren’t going to like what he was going to say next.

“Anne-Marie has requested that instead of having auditions at the various schools again for the lead roles, she’d like you and Renjun to return to reprise your roles as Odette and the Prince.” he finished and when he didn’t hear you speak for a few minutes Jongin got worried, “Y/N?”

“Yea, I’m still here.” you said taking a breath, thinking about what Jongin had just suggested, “Why us?”

“Request from the Board.” Jongin said, “I’ll explain more when we meet up but I just wanted to let you know just in case she contacts you first. I gotta catch my plane but I’ll call you in a few days on where to meet. Think about it.” 

“I will...it’s just...wow. She wants us again? Even after all the mess ups?” you asked, leaning against the wall when you felt yourself get light headed and you slowly sat yourself down.

“You were still one of the best and she knows you put your all in despite the injury.” Jongin reasoned, “Like I said, think about it okay? Enjoy your dinner Y/N.” 

“I’ll see you in a few days.” you said and hung up quickly before putting your head between your legs in order to get rid of the dizziness and let out a breath.

“Y/N? Are you okay?” you heard Hana’s voice come from down the hallway and you looked up to see Jeno, Jaemin, Hana and Jisung walking towards you, they must’ve been ready to leave for dinner and had come to look for you. 

It only took one look for Jisung before he started running towards you, knowing exactly what the issue was.

“I’m fine.” you said, shaking your head quickly to get rid of the dizziness, “I was just on the phone.”

“Lie to someone else please.” Jisung stated kneeling down next to you and took your hand in his.  Despite the layers you were wearing, your hand was still cold, “You’ve been neglecting your health again haven’t you. When was the last time you took your supplements?” he nagged and went into his backpack, taking out a package of pills, “At least if you end up in the hospital this time, I won’t have to fly eleven hours to care for you.” he muttered, completely forgetting who he was with.

“What’s going on?” Jeno asked, sitting next to you while Jaemin and Hana sat in front, watching Jisung check various parts of your upper body as if he’d been doing this his whole life.  He noted your pale complexion and the pill package, “You were fine earlier.” 

“I am fine. Jisung’s overreacting.” you said but took the pills and water bottle Jisung offered you anyways knowing the dancer wouldn’t take no for an answer, “I can’t believe you still have these.” 

“I carry them around in my bag for situations like this. I learnt my lesson after the hospital visit.” Jisung stated and looked at the other three, “She has a major iron deficiency that she has to maintain with supplements because what she eats doesn’t absorb enough. If she doesn’t, she’s prone to fainting.” 

“So that’s what happened during competition season last year. Is that how you got your concussion?” Hana asked, completely forgetting that Jeno and Jaemin were still in the dark about your past.

“Concussion?” Jeno and Jaemin asked looking at you with concern and you waved it off.

“It was my first year preparing for the season alone since Renjun left at the end of the previous year and I guess I neglected my health a bit. I fell off the stage during my performance and apparently hit my head really hard.” you admitted sheepishly, “I woke up two days later and found Jisung by my hospital bed looking like he just got off the plane.

Jenos eyes snapped to Jisung who looked like he was holding something in when the boy puffed his cheeks out and bit his lip before letting out a shaky breath. This was obviously a memory that was tough for him and the way that Jisung shifted close to you to touch your hands again to ensure that the supplements were indeed doing their job told him that he was wary even now.

“I wouldn’t have found out if I didn’t call you after your competition was supposed to finish. To see how you did.” Jisung said with a huff, “The nurse answered your phone and I just remember talking to Tae and booking the first flight out. I couldn’t even think.” 

“So thats why you disappeared so suddenly after regionals were over.” Jaemin finally said after a moment of silence, “Why didn’t you tell anyone? We would’ve been there for you.”

“I wasn’t thinking straight.” Jisung reasoned, leaning his head against your shoulder,“ She was alone while her parents were on the other side of the world. So I stayed with her till we had to leave for camp. There were a few people that came to visit her from time to time but they never stayed long.”

“I was grateful for him being there though. Sicheng wouldn’t stop nagging me after he found out when he saw us show up together at camp.” you said with a sigh, “Are we ready to go? Everyones probably waiting.” 

“They all left already and we sent Yeeun with Yukhei.” Hana said, as Jeno helped you up, holding your small backpack in the process.

“You good?” he asked, his hand securing you by the arm.

“I’m good.” you said with a reassuring smile and turned to Jisung and gave him a hug, “Thanks for always having my back...Chicken Little.” you whispered, laughing when he playfully pushed you away.

“Why did you have to kill a moment like that for?!” he whined, waving his arms to the side.

“Is he okay?” Jaemin asked as you continued to laugh while Jisung rambled about what you could and could not call him in front of people.

“Probably called him Chicken Little again.” Hana said giggling behind her hand.

Jeno tilted his head to the side and narrowed his eyes, “Don’t see it.” 

“Wait till he wears his glasses.” Hana said, “I think Y/N has a photo of him in character. You should ask. Same shirt, shorts and we even styled his hair a certain way.”

Hana’s last comment seemed to catch both yours and Jisungs attention and the two of you looked at her with mouths agape.

“YOU TOLD ME YOU DELETED THE PHOTO!!!” Jisung exclaimed, pointing an accusing finger at you, “Delete it!” 

“We...should be getting to dinner now right?” you asked, pretending you didn’t hear Jisung, “Don’t want to keep everyone waiting.” you said and grabbed Hana’s arm as the two of you took off down the hall, a frazzled Jisung chasing the two of you at almost the same speed.

Jeno and Jaemin watched the three of you with amused smiles and Jeno leaned towards Jaemin, “Hana has a copy right?” 

“Nope, just Y/N. She showed me one time and I couldn’t stop laughing. The resemblance is something else.” Jaemin said as the two of them trailed behind you all the while listening to Jisungs frustrated rants about how he regrets being your friends but also doesn’t because everyone else around them were a variety of things.

This caused the duo to walk faster and smack the boy in the head simultaneously.

“You know in a typical situation like this.” Jeno stated, getting close to Jisungs face so you and Hana wouldn’t hear.

“You would be considered the fifth wheel.” Jaemin finished doing the same.

Pushing the two away, Jisung rolled his eyes. “Yea, when Jeno actually mans up and asks Y/N out officially. Times  ticking dude.”

“I know, I know. Gosh, I feel like you guys are more invested in my relationship then I am.” Jeno said as the tables turned on him.

“We are. That’s the messed up part about it.” Jaemin deadpanned, “But Jisungs right, times ticking.” 

“Soon.” Jeno said with a nod, watching you whisper something to Hana making the two of you giggle and you turned your head to look at him with a bright smile, 

“I promise.” 

It was time to set his plan in motion.

feels a little early to be writing a year-in review but i find myself in a quiet moment so i thought i’d tap a few things out

in 2019, in all facets of my life, i faced a challenge of some sort and i surprised myself as i held my ground more often than ran away, which felt new. what *also* felt new was this sense of ease i began having professionally, when it came to conceptualizing and making decisions. sorta feels like a lot of things are crystallizing.

in terms of life on here, i didn’t have TSL for the majority of the year (anybody out there remember TSL?!) so i busied myself with crafting fun memories on my own. there were spans of weeks where i’d just get on a tear and run into one new thing after the other and it was all really just fantastic. i gave myself permission to indulge in the most decadent of things and to follow the most mercurial of assumptions to places i thought closed off.

i’m pretty sure i’ve smiled and laughed more over this year than i ever have in my entire life. no joke.

here are some kaylorverse moments that brought me joy in 2019:

it’s nice to have a friend

2018 was my first year being a kaylor and i just sort of was moreover on the contributor or commenter side of things so 2019 was interesting in that when taylor really leaned into the gay imagery leading up to album release, i started getting newer people sending me stuff! and asking me my takes on things! and like, my words suddenly had weight for some reason? it felt weird but i truly enjoyed getting to talk with so many different people and hear their ideas and laugh and such. that was markedly different from last year. from within this, 79-swift reached out to me with the eye theory, the most beautiful and rare of observations by a singularly lovely individual that i have dedicated my life to protecting and promoting. and i feel like i’ve gotten to know many people i knew through 2018 more deeply and have come to accept the role i play, lean in to it, and formulate my own truth of the matter, and that sort of heightened perspective on it has been a blessing and i’m so thankful for this strange sense of camaraderie that has formed with many of you? thank you??? and my conviction, and my wishes, for the girls to find happiness have only strengthened this year... im committed to seeing this through whether people like it or not!! harumph!

i also started proactively curating my experience.. that’s right! i began blocking trolls with reckless abandon, and i turned anons off! 😂 and damn it’s so much more worthwhile of a time on here when you set aside people that only want to ruin your day.

i fell in love with so many songs and like, running into eye motifs in so many of the songs, lyrically and visually, was the most hilarious thing. but really just a lot of the songs really tapped at my soul with an ice pick and i even went to go see The Japanese House live in Osaka which was transcendental and i’m just so thankful for having taylor introduce Good At Falling to me because it was a *necessary* album.

i made and collected stuff

i made and amassed many artifacts that one day i can look back on and remember what a wild ride it has been. some favorites are my procuring of the pixel art heart ring from the ME! mv (a nod to my tsl days..), as well as the evil eye ring.. i didn’t physically make this but the eye theory made the taydar podcast and there’s nothing i enjoy more in this world than making someone giggle and i just love that the episode exists. making that kaylor straw was 👌 working on a mock-up of the golden locket has been very satisfying. i started incorporating fun kaylor winks into my artwork as well which was fun, and i also commissioned a collage from the very talented and lovely valheria and i couldn’t have asked for anything better 🥰

wildin in the TS7 tag was the best.

i made this observation that there’s this type of cocoon that looks like a cobra, which transforms into a butterfly over a period of 13 days, and like, the post got so many notes and i just had a lot of swiftie eyeballs all of a sudden on my blog which led to some hilarity. but honestly i just love geeking out over theories and it’s fun to get to do that as fans of taylor at large. things felt warm and effervescent.

i subscribe to the TTB Times and let me just say the submissions and anons this year were overwhelmingly a delight to read through every day. also like, we did get cued in to stuff before album release and i am just thankful that there are people out there both who want to give us that and people who work to help them give us that. thank you ttb for moderating your blog (my newspaper of choice) however it is that you do and to everyone that contributed to her blog.

the whole lead up to the ME! video release

so glorious... but particular the hour before. i was rushing to pick up my kid from school and suddenly i kept getting messages from people that taylor was covering her face and framing her eyes, and i was like oh please yeah sure BUT THEN when the snake in the video had a blank eye like i don’t think you guys understand i had to wait at a bus stop and exchange pleasantries with the other moms but it was a *five alarm fire* in my mind

call me a corporate shill all you want like, there’s always a little something in there and i also enjoy the little flickers of goofy karlie that jump out from time to time. and i know this is not the case for everyone but post eyepocalypse, karlie leaning in, winking that eye of hers time and time again was just pique comedy for me and it always made me chuckle. the brands karlie has repped have been really laying it on thick too and it’s been a joy to see. when taylor does it with her music it’s art, and for me karlie’s media presence is a form of art too 😌

kimby liked a comment of mine on her insta which was a distinct honor and privilege 😌 and really she was dropping clues left and right through spring up until she got her snazzy new job and things calmed down 🥰 of which i am so proud talk about an on brand job! also partially clearing the air about my TSL theory and the lead up to clearing that air was quite fulfilling for me and i am forever grateful for the time we shared. and to this point, the seesters in general (and kurt omg) have been quite active all year and we don’t deserve it but they’ve stuck around and it’s been calming.

when taylor came to visit tokyo this year i was basically reenacting the swamp scene from OOTW trying to get a ticket to the secret event... i listened to ME! on LINE MUSIC for over 2000 plays, i bought multiple CD’s, it was such an ordeal and then to not have a ticket after all but still putting on my thinking cap and managing to figure out where the event was while i was at disney sea and literally running from disney sea to the venue in high heels with The Man playing on my phone was oscar-worthy and actually *being correct* and the moment i knew i was correct and how i knew i was correct was so amazing 😉 and i play by the rules so i didn’t try to get in without a ticket and i didn’t lurk. but just to have figured it out and validated it was such a thrill. seeing her on TV live was amazing as well ///

oh and, last year for rep tour there was this theory i had which didn’t pan out but it had to do with the clues i thought shawn mendes was dropping through autumn 2018 and anyway that’s a story for another day but as i was bopping around town, looking for lockets, staying in rooms i have no business being in, drinking lots of whisky...just to know that while i was doing *everything but* successfully meeting taylor, she literally phoned shawn and had him record lines for that eye theory remix like, i will never ever, like, guys. guys. 😂 it’s too perfect for words. the world is weird like that sometimes.

and omg Lover the album? i absolutely love lover and i loves that honeymoon period of theorizing and parallel unearthing that we did and i love how slightly creepy-cute it is and i love the whole wabi-sabi thing going on and i absolutely love every song on the album, every one, they all have so much meaning to me... and each one is teeming with little blips and bloops and sound samples and seconds of silence and i love all the brass instruments and so many lush moments... i guess my shortlist (in no particular order) would be the archer, lover, i think he knows, daylight, cruel summer, false god, cornelia street, ME! (yea i really like me 🥰). and to think about everything that went in to the album and the thrill of what it might have been and the vastness of what we don’t know, but like, the weight of that potential?? it’s like this vast pastel and black abyss of drowsy and deep feelings and i love every inch of it. it’s a vibe that reflects so much of what this year has been for me and i’m happy to have existed in this time to have had it with me.

jesus this has gotten too long, and i still have like 24 more things to write out but um, basically, as i’m sure you’ve been able to assume? i wanted to say that despite 2019 being somewhat of a slasher film affair for our fandom, i still had a goddamn great time this year and i hope everyone can find some good memories and relive them as well 🥰

i’m glad i could... shed some light on how i view the whole deal with ritual vs banishment? brumm’s deepnest monologue, the grimmkin master and nightmare’s poems and grimm himself all point to the fact that the ritual has one ending. it repeats itself. in the howling cliffs, brumm says ‘this once, i would see the ritual fail’, so either someone going out of their way to stop the ritual from being completed is really, really rare, or maybe brumm is the first person to ever do it. which would be fucked up! it’d be really fucked up!!! he cares about grimm so much!!!!!!!!!

you see, i am very weak for characters challenging fate because they love someone so much that they do things that are just... almost impossible?? and then succeeding??? because their love is just that strong???? against all odds..... aa. aaaaaa. AAAAAAA.

nightmare heart headcanons! sadness! a tiny flashback! this part has it all. i think despite the unresolved tension and the disagreement on whether or not grimm deserves to get metaphorically thrown under a lawnmower and served at the nightmare heart’s dinner table, grimm cares for brumm just as much as brumm cares for grimm, and grimm is very much aware that thinking and talking about the ritual really upsets them both but especially brumm, but it’s not like there’s anything he can do about it except offer brumm a way to drop the topic entirely, even if brumm is Super Mega Ultra Tired of it and just wants to finally resolve the issue. they’re just two goths that are tangled up in God Shit.

also literally the only reason i did not tag the fic as grimm/brumm is because grimm isn’t actually There alkdhgkldjghsfh.

OMGGG THAT IS SERIOUSLY HARD I listen to a lot of songs from the series daily! SOBS 

UM I think my number one is Ready as I’ll ever be, it’s more because of how amazing it was to first hear it and my little sister and I sing it together all the time. I’m even learning the french version of the song XD ET JE SUIS PRET JE SUIS PRET JE SUIS PRET JE SUIS PLUS PRES QUE JAMAAAAAAIS

Also I love the female Varian covers, making it a longer song with amazing lyrics??? and the song was so good that there’s a bunch of animatics using it on youtube. Also the lyrics of the song really makes you think, is the bad guy really at fault here? “I’m the bad guy that’s fine it’s no fault of mine and some justice at last will be served.” “and I’ll stand up and fight ‘cause I know that I’m right.”

Anyway, that song is amazing and has affected many fandoms that don’t even know what RTA is. 

Second favorite is Wind in my hair, and its reprise I mean??? It’s the opening song, my little sis and I literally sing with the opening every time it comes on. It was my favorite song for a long while, and I still love it a lot! 

Third favorite is Nothing left to lose, and it was so hard to choose between it and Waiting in the wings. I loved both songs from the moment I first heard them, but Nothing left to lose hurts me a LOOOOT. Varian talking about how he felt, that he realised he had nothing left to lose while Cass has so much to hold onto. AAAAH. Their voice actors are amazing singers and having them sing together literally made me scream from happiness. It’s just when the song first started I squealed, and I can’t forget how excited I got. And to this day I still listen to it a lot and sing with the song! SO yea it’s my third fav XD

Who is one character that you wish had gotten more screen time?

I think every character had enough screentime? Like many side characters had episodes dedicated to them! I guess I was sad we didn’t get to really see Adira much in the third season.

How did you first learn about the show?

Short answer is Disney channel XD Long answer, where I lived before Disney Channel required some kind of subscription that my dad refused to do. I was obsessed with Disney as a kid and every time I came to my home country I’d be watching Disney channel on TV. 2 Years ago I was forced to come to my home country permanently, it sucked because I lost everything I had but on the good side I could watch Disney channel here FPFPF. I always have the TV on Disney channel and I was watching rapunzel’s tangled adventure season 1 on it, I saw queen for a day at some point and I was like OH NO WHAT HAPPENED NEXT??? And searched up the episodes online, and that’s basically how I joined the fandom and started being up to date with the show! I think all this happened about a year ago, sad thing tho I moved for a fourth/ fifth??? time and I live in an abandoned house with no Disney channel now. RIPP
