the thing is, moffats writing is BRILLIANT and it also SUCKS in my opinion - and sometimes i don’t notice it at all and sometimes im just like UGHGHGHGHGHHHGGHGHGHGHGHGH why! must! you! do this!!!!

the poetic dialogue! the complexity! the continuousity (not really uh accurate continuity)! the amazing horror/monsters! the twists ya never see coming! the drama! the absolutely wonderful clever dialogue and intricacies! the treatises on important subjects like war and violence! super fun premises!

NOT the twists that are so twisty upon twistyness that I’ve entirely lost sight of even the point of them and which stakes when unsatisfactorily resolved are actually undercut for no other reason but to put in another lil mini twist which eventually just all spells out in empty symbols that in the end were all paradoxes: the Doctor is so fucking GREAT and DANGEROUS and IMPORTANT and also the companions were born for him.

Tom Baker cameo. a little TOO on the nose i’d say. but pretty fun.

do i think he did pretty well pandering to fans? yea. do i think he fixed that gallifrey stuff up pretty good? yes. it made sense. (does it actually explain gallifrey turning up via the Master’s head or does it counterspeak it?)

does it kinda fuck up all the angst from before? YES. good and bads. i loved nine so for me it’s a little more bad. a whole lot more bad.

what i thought was gonna happen: Clara being important to the 50th.. but no. she was just literally a girl who kinda jumped into the Doctor’s time-stream for no other reason than that whole business with the cracks-prophecy-silence-kovarian-astronaut-river-murder-great intelligence-question-impossible-girl. and at one point the Doctor will end up on that battlefield? it’s a long setup again. long long setup. bit of a spoiler tbh. big spoiler actually. and they’re probably gonna wriggle out of it again. anyway there was apparently zero reason for Clara to be a time anomaly and she could have just been a genuine governess/schoolteacher.
