I think my blog title is really funny because like. I'm categorically not a Stella apologist. She's canonically an abusive monster, and I fully recognize that. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that she's anything other than a horrible person, or theorize about how maybe she's a good mother when I know that would make no sense from a doylist perspective.

what I DO think, however, is that Stella deserved better. She, as one of the only notable female characters in the show and the only female antagonist, deserves to be a complex and well thought out character, rather than swinging between a laughing stock and tool for punishment in service of her male counterpart. She, and female characters in general, deserve to have their emotions taken seriously by the narrative and not be reduced to cartoonishly dumb, eternally evil tropes. I mean, "I like tormenting you"? Seriously?

So I'm not a Stella apologist in the traditional sense– I'm not apologizing for her, I'm apologizing to her. And hopefully with my rewrite, I'll be able to give her some justice.
