I have a question for you guys.
I was rewatching Yosano's backstory episode (and cried again. what of it?) but something this time caught my attention.
In the scene where Fukuzawa and Mori are fighting and Fukuzawa angrily tells him his plans "lack humanity"... is the word they both use... not "kokoro"?
Tumblr media
It would appear to be, from this manga translation. If that really is the choice of word, that's really interesting, because one of irl Natsume-sensei's most well-known books is the novel Kokoro.
What does this mean? Is Mori really following the plan Natsume laid out for them? Is he derailing from the initial plan with the exclusion of "heart/humanity"? Did Natsume intend for "heart" to be sacrificed in the name of defense? Or is this conflict, with "heart" at the center, exactly what Natsume needed for this plan to work?
And on Mori's end: this isn't his usual cold, impeccable logic. This is anger that Fukuzawa is getting in the way. More than that, it almost seems to me like Mori has a paranoid streak. Check this out here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be quite honest with you, Mori sometimes makes weird calls that imo aren't the best decisions - and they're all out of some fear he has, typically over the protection of the city and the country. Mori's takeover of the Port Mafia is seen as overall a good thing - because the previous boss grew increasingly paranoid and started ordering unnecessary violence, something Mori himself wishes to avoid whenever possible. Yet his projection onto Dazai causes issues during the Mimic incident - sure it was logically sound, but he lost Dazai for it. Was it really then the best solution there was? And what about Yosano - so caught up in what she could prove and what she meant for the war effort that he failed to consider her taking drastic action out of sheer despair? It's interesting that Mori, who advises others on not letting their fears and emotions get in the way of strategy, is prone to the same thing at times. Might he get worse at this kind of miscalculation? It'd be altogether kind of tragic if he messes up later in the story out of paranoia, considering his predecessor's legacy...
Edit: I changed the last bit, as it's left somewhat unclear if part of Mori's reasoning in the whole Mimic incident was to get Dazai away from him - in fact, it's likely that wasn't the case at all and Dazai was just saying this to intentionally get under his skin. Unfortunately I am a bit of dumbass who misinterpreted this line on first read, and now read it differently:
Tumblr media
He's sticking with the logicality of it - one person's life for a gifted business permit is a worthwhile sacrifice, even if it drove away his right hand man. Either way, whether it's projection (Dazai is just like me, so he'll understand) or paranoia (he is going to inevitably kill me someday - which is still kinda projection imo) or some combination of the two - I think the original point still stands: maybe focusing all your efforts on ensuring you're always prepared for some eventuality or other means you overlook things you deem less important or irrelevant. Maybe removing heart from your decisions... isn't actually the best call in the end.

THE SURPRISING HERO ( A PROMPT LIST! )
hello my beloveds!!! an absolutely incredible nonnie sent in a request for prompts based on the idea of someone becoming a vital part of saving the world through unanticipated events, and i hope i managed to achieve what they wanted in this list! basically i got a tonne of inspiration from comic book movies and the more fantastical vibes of high fantasy franchises, and i was going to make these more amusing, but i think there's something so hard-hitting about the concept of being thrust into greatness and heroism when you feel you aren't ready for it! anyway! enjoy, and as always: DO NOT ADD TO OR EDIT THIS LIST, AND DO NOT CLAIM AS YOUR OWN!
FROM THE UNEXPECTED HERO:
“ i’m not supposed to be here. i’m not like the rest of you; i’m not special, or blessed, or gifted. i’m just… me. “
“ you’ve got to be joking! i can’t save the world! i’m just an ordinary person! “
“ it’s funny. all these years, i’ve wanted so badly to see the world. now… i think i’ve never wanted anything so much as to go back home. “
“ so that’s it, then? i’m just supposed to sacrifice everything to save the world, all because some ancient prophecy says so? “
“ i still can’t quite believe we were doing laundry yesterday. now our biggest chore is traveling across the world to save it. “
“ i miss home. i miss how safe and boring and fine it all was. i never would’ve wanted adventures if i thought they’d be as scary and dangerous as this. “
“ they’re right to be angry, you know. everyone has a purpose here; i’m only joining you all because of some insane twist of fate. “
“ surprised? don’t worry, so was i. i don’t think it’s a normal occurrence for people like me to be part of massive quests like this. “
“ look. i’m not the chosen one, alright? i don’t want any part in any prophecy or ancient dictation. i just want to live an ordinary, safe, boring life. “
“ you think i don’t acknowledge what’s happening?! every mistake i make has costs, and those costs are often the lives of innocent people! “
“ you know, last year my idea of a grand adventure was going up the mountains for a picnic with my friends. funny how fast things change, isn’t it? “
“ i’m not a hero! i don’t know how to fight! heroes are special and unique and trained, and i’m none of those things. “
“ everyone looks at me like i’ve got the answers, but i don’t. i was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. “
“ you ever stop to question the solidity of this prophecy? because if the wording is that vague that it could name me as the savior of the world, then maybe we ought to revise it. “
“ this is stupid! putting the fate of the universe on some million-year-old prophecy! “
“ i’m not what you think i am. i’m not a hero. i’m sorry, i know you want me to be one, but… i’m just not. “
“ so you’re telling me, because i happened to overhear some weird out of context conversation, that the safety of the world relies entirely on me? “
“ don’t you see how daft this whole thing is?! i’ve got to save the world now because i happened to take a wrong turn on my way home! “
“ why can’t i just give you guys what i found, and you can go and rescue the world yourselves? “
“ i want to clarify that i’m not a coward. okay? i’m not running away from this. but i’m not exactly save-the-world material. so thank you for the opportunity, but… i think i’ll stay at home. “
TO THE UNEXPECTED HERO:
“ i get it, you know. it’s a huge responsibility for someone who’s only just realized what’s at stake. “
“ the others think i’m utterly mad for even considering you for this task. but the fact is, you’re the only person i genuinely believe to be capable of fixing this mess. “
“ would you like to know the mark of a true hero? it’s courage. not an absence of fear, not an ignorance of it, but rather, the choice to persevere in spite of it. you’re still here. that makes you one of the bravest people on the planet. “
“ don’t let anyone else tell you what you are and aren’t capable of. everything happens for a reason, and it wasn’t dumb luck that put you in our path. “
“ i don’t believe in prophecies, personally. i think the universe is far too chaotic for them to survive thousands of years. but i do believe that you being here is not a coincidence. “
“ fate only accounts for part of what happens in our lives. the rest of it is all choices. and despite how scared and inexperienced you are… you’ve chosen to stay. that tells me an awful lot about you. “
“ how selfish can you be?! running away from this destiny, this task! the world will fall into darkness if you don’t step up, and here you are, hiding from your fate like a coward! “
“ you need to learn to ignore the opinions of others if you’re going to stand a chance at doing this. this is the cost of being a hero. people will judge, not based on truth, but on a limited perspective. “
“ don’t be stupid. we’re not special or talented either; i was trained from childhood, i can fight men twice my size, but that’s not the mark of a hero. “
“ if you like, i could teach you how to fight? you may find it useful. even if it’s just to comfort yourself against these ridiculous self-doubts. “
“ heroes aren’t always massive muscle types. the inventor of new defense measures against attacks, or someone who discovered a cure for a disease, or perhaps someone clever enough to use new fuel sources in the winter… heroism isn’t always found in warzones, you know. “
“ fine. don’t do it for the fate of the world. do it for your family. your friends. do it for the ones you’ll return to once we settle this for good. save this world, not for the world itself, but for the ones you love, so that they may live on. “
“ you should know some things. most people, if you somehow perform outside of the very specific expectations they have for you, will be very quick and harsh in their judgment. it’s not something one can avoid. but you can learn to rise above those critics. remember. they don’t know the real you. “
" fear is normal. okay? we all fear things. the real killer is when you try to fight that fear. you're no lesser a hero for fearing things. expect it. accept it. embrace it. and once it's with you, work with it to fight even more. "
" you keep saying you're not a hero. tell me. what exactly is it that you believe a hero to be? "
" people make the error of assuming heroes to be golden, flawless, immaculate in both thought and strategy. it's never the case. heroes are the most flawed of all. that's what makes us admire them so. "

Chapter 39 - thoughts.
Heya everyone! Back here with the latest chapter's notes :>! Sorry for taking a bit longer this time, I haven't been feeling quite well tbh (I'm a bit sick, and then I got that monthly visit wtf, and it's super hot again too!!! UGH)
There's nothing much to say outside of a few highlights here and there, and how I initially wanted to write one scene but didn't go with it in the end.
As always, I recommend you read the newest chapter first before continuing, also, no that great of a proofreading was done here 😅 but I hope you're still able to enjoy it!!
And without further ado, spoilers under the cut:
Things I wanted to show/clarify in this chapter: What really happened in Naoya’s mind when he was sick. Albeit a bit… rushed (or so that’s how I feel it went) I still think I managed to cover most of the things :>
So to everyone’s (or perhaps not lol) surprise, Naoya did remember most of the stuff that happened—Yep, even that promise.
Now, I was told that many would not take well the possibility of him denying it, so… I’m sorry to say that he had to act the fool lol. It’s pretty much true at this point that something did happen between his family and Y/N’s in order for that marriage to happen, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Naoya would suddenly go back on his words and just act like it didn’t even happen in the first place.
What’s worse (or commendable I guess) is that he tried to distract Y/N by “bribing” her with pancakes… if only his transgression wasn’t as awful as it was.
The whole thing was very tense afterwards, however, because of this, I think he finally allowed himself to be a bit more open about his feelings, like, actually reflecting on his actions. But he’s not quite there yet, as you saw in this chapter. He gets that he messed up, sure, but he still believes that she’s overreacting, and sometimes, even blaming others.
As stated, he doesn’t really get all the fuzz about being close to one’s family, just his mom I guess (and we all know how that went), but outside of that he’s like “Ah, whatever. She’s supposed to be most of the time with my family anyways.”
But of course, after having a relatively happy interactions with Y/N and then back to square one, if not worse… well, something had to change.
That had to be the biggest advancement in his character. In the previous moments where Y/N has been shown to be suffering, unhappy, so on and so forth, Naoya couldn’t care any less; He wanted to be the most detached away from that situation and jump back in when she’s in a better mood—but now, he’s all about seeing her get better; helping her get better. He doesn’t like the sight of her being sick, unhappy.
He’d give her the whole world if she asked for it type-of-thing, even willing to push aside his differences with Naoaki for her sake.
Kind of lol. Naoya is still a very jealous man indeed. Also, not all of the flowers were from Naoaki, just a few here and there, most of them were from her staff instead and one other servant that heard of her predicament and wanted to wish her a quick recovery, but in his eyes, it doesn’t really matter: if there’s one flower that came from Naoaki, that’s all he cares about.
The second advancement would be his opening up. The way he had to seek Ranta for the first time in his life just to talk about his feelings is something that had the poor kid rightfully surprised. And he doesn’t even know about the nightmare yet 😊 Not that I remember writing it anyways lol. I don’t think it’s something Naoya (or anyone really) could easily put in words, the emotional burden must be OOF.
I wonder what kind of reaction Ranta would have to that nightmare? He would be petrified for sure.
The third advancement would be related to the second one, and it would be Naoya’s initiative when trying to “mend” his mistakes with Y/N. Like, he didn’t even call Ranta for suggestions on how to win her back or something, although he did get some persuasion on his part.
It was mostly Naoya just… speaking from the heart if you like. As if he wanted to do things that he thought would make her happy. He didn’t even question them, think of them as silly or anything, he just did them because he wanted to (if only he did the other thing!!!)
This part has to be the saddest one of the whole chapter. Naoya trying really hard to make amends with Y/N and her simply not having it.
The worst one yet would have to be how she rejected one of his absolute favorites, his manga.
I had to make it nasty, at least what I thought nasty, and for me that was using one of the most commonly associated words when describing people who like anime: weird.
It hurt Naoya for sure to hear those words coming out of her mouth, it’s one of those happenings that if traumatizing enough, would push him to never open up to anyone ever again. But all I gotta say is that I’m not done with that aspect of his just yet 😊 and who knows, maybe they’ll connect about it in the future. And with her own likings too.
The flowers were obviously another thing that hurt the most when writing, and I was actually planning on making them sunflowers instead of roses to have a bigger emotional significance, call it a “coincidence” to the fact that Hinata literally means sunflower and this just would’ve pissed of Y/N even more.
The scene was going to develop something like:
If Naoya wanted to make amends, he should’ve at least had the decency to not gift you flowers that remind you of your sister—the one he had strictly barren you from seeing in the first place.
But I went for roses because I thought it would be a bit worse, considering their romantic significance and whatnot 😊 That’s the whole reason why she reacted so… crudely—because honestly, who thinks it’s a good idea to profess your “love” for someone that essentially hates you? Naoya didn’t’ do much thinking on that one, eh?
Finally, but not least… the confrontation. This must be the first time Y/N has openly told Naoya of the things he’s done to her—and believe me, this… certainly affected him. He was crying in front of her, and that’s another thing I don’t think she’s ever seen him do!
Unfortunately, it’ll pass undetected to her. But next time, it won’t 😊
TLDR:
Naoya treated the same situations from the past with a different perspective, when he was previously dismissive, if not completely detached, now he’s nothing but involved. Seems like he’s slowly getting… somewhere.
Y/N needs accountability.
And that’s it for this chapters notes!!! They’re quite short because I think I mentioned all of the things I wanted to in the chapter :> And there’s still more to come next one…
Honestly all of this is pointing to the next chapter, to the one moment I’ve been dreaming of since I literally started plotting everything.  And I said before, I just hope everything comes out as expected!! Unfolds nicely!!!! If not :^)?
Anyways, these are just a few things that I consider relevant when writing the chapters, of course if there’s something else you’d like to know more about just let me know and I’ll try to do my best to answer!
As always, thank you so much for your support!!!! We’re finally approaching the sweet part of the story, I think hehe :> Can’t wait to show it!
Take care everyone, and hope to see you next update!

Big sister instincts
Original post August 20th, 2022 (x)
Huili fidgets with her sleeves, glancing at her shidi’s and shimei’s. Just a day earlier, she had already overheard why they got called here, and done her own research. And wow, is she glad she did so.
“Before we begin, I want all of you to know that I’m not mad.” Yue Qingyuan speaks up from behind his desk, still seated in front of the documents he’d been looking over when they entered.
It does absolutely nothing to soothe any of the juniors.
“While looking through these documents, I noticed some mistakes that had been made. It’s lucky that I caught these, because that means they can still be fixed. But for that, I need to know who was responsible. Would this person care to step forward?”
The juniors fidget, but one in particular catches Huili’s eyes. It’s who she knows did it. He’s even paler than at the beginning, faintly trembling, tears gathering in his eyes, and his look… Huili feels her heart twist painfully as she looks away.
“No? Then-”
“I did it,” Huili speaks up, stepping forward with a gentle touch to her shidi’s arm. With her step forward, she also moves a bit to the side, to block her shidi from Yue Qingyuan’s view. “I’m sorry, a-die. It just took me a bit to recognise the documents.”
“Hm.” The way Yue Qingyuan studies her makes her want to hide, but she just gives him a nervous smile. “Everyone else, please leave. Huili and I still have some things to talk about.”
The shidi she had shielded tugs on her sleeve and she turns her head to give him a soft smile and a wink, nodding at the door. He hesitates before following the others, and Huili faces Yue Qingyuan again, who has now stood up.
“Li-er…” He shakes his head, sighing. “While I think your instincts to protect your juniors are amazing, you don’t need to protect them here, where they’re safe. They still need to learn that their actions have consequences, and they can’t do that if you take the blame every single time.”
“A-die, did you see him?” Huili sighs, pulling her necklace out of her robes to play with it. She knows that he knows who did it. He was just hoping her shidi would step up and confess to it himself. “He was terrified. Not just the scared of ‘oh no, I messed up’. That was the kind of scared you get when any mistake you make has you beaten up and nearly killed.”
“Which is why I clarified that I wasn’t mad at the beginning.” Yue Qingyuan nods, moving closer to her to brush some hair out of her face. “I don’t want my disciples to think they’ll be punished in an extreme way just because they made a mistake. They’re here to learn, not because they already know how to do everything perfectly.”
“And while I know that, they don’t.” Huili gives him a sad smile. “That is why I take the blame. If he’d stayed here, instead of me, he would’ve been too scared to listen properly to anything you said, would have messed up even more, and would have gotten more scared.”
“And how will he then learn to face the consequences of his actions?” It’s a genuine question, she can see it in his face, hear it in his voice. He wants her to come up with a better solution.
“I’ll talk to him later. He already knows he doesn’t have to be afraid of me, I stood up for him when I didn’t have to. He’ll see I don’t have any bruises, which tells him that you either don’t do corporal punishments, or you love your daughter enough to give her a different type of punishment. Then I’ll talk to him about the mistakes he made, how he can avoid them, and to come to me or one of the teachers if he has questions about how to do something.” Huili easily explains her plan. She’d already wanted to explain it to him, anyway.
“And you think this will work better?” Yue Qingyuan moves back to his desk, picking up the documents.
“Obviously. A-die, you have to remember, you’re not only a Peak Lord, you’re the Sect Leader. That makes you like, ten times as terrifying. Me? Sure, I’m your kid, but I’m just a disciple, I’m his shijie. I’m a lot less scary to any of them. So if I do this, he’s much more likely to actually remember how to avoid or fix mistakes, rather than how terrified he was the entire time.”
Yue Qingyuan sighs, but he’s smiling. “Very well. Come here, I’ll show you the mistakes and give you some tips about how to fix them. Then you can go and talk to your shidi about it.”

(Original anon here) I understand that there is in insane amount of trolling that takes place on this site, and I have witness you be trolled many a time so I do understand your hesitation and jumping to the conclusion that this is supposedly in bad faith. There’s not much I can do to convince you it isn’t, that’s up to you to believe. I genuinely was only asking because I do not want to support zionists in anyway shape or form. I’m sorry if my vague messages alluded you to think I was being cynical, that is a genuine mistake on my part. But all I can say is I was truly just trying to avoid any messages that would signal for other people to start messaging you. (Which clearly I failed at) in complete honestly I was expecting you to answer in the hashtags and not even post my message.
In regard to why I questioned your stance it was due to the reposting of an instagram slideshow that whilst had some factual information based on history ended with a very centric. “Peace is the answer” take. Which is yours to hold if that is your view, but it isn’t mine and it isn’t one that I wish to align with which Is why I asked for clarification.
You posted my message right after the repost about the violence towards a Jewish school. I don’t recall seeing that when I sent the message so I can only assume you posted it between receiving my message and answering it. I have never and will never condone violence against Jewish people. I don’t see how I have implied that anywhere in any of my messages.
I don’t know who that other anon is nor do I have anything to do with them or what they feel. Hope this clears a few things up. Clearly I need to work on my ability to read someone’s vibe and situation because you did not receive my approach well. But also I think it would improve your interactions on this site to perhaps not assume everyone is a troll. ( although I’m sure that sentiment alone won’t land well i do feel i have a right to defend myself)
Apologies for the long winded message over a miscommunication, I just have very close personal ties to this situation and as any human being should I find it very distressing.
Thank you for coming back to explain your perspective, and for your apology.
In the spirit of you saying that you intend to work on reading someone's vibe and how your asks might land, I will try to explain further how your asks landed with me. I'm doing so in good faith, not to stir things up further.
But first, I want to clarify a couple of things that you have said that are not true.
One, I do not assume everyone is a troll. I accused you of bad faith trolling after you had sent me three asks. I did so because of the content of those three asks, not because I assume everyone is a troll. I answered your first ask. I asked you to clarify your message and tell me what you were confused about. You responded by saying that my "lack of a response" confirmed your suspicions, accused me of hostility, and declined to answer my question.
Can you really say that doesn't sound like bad faith trolling? I gave you the benefit of the doubt, and you showed up with nothing but accusations and assumptions.
Two, I reblogged the post about the Jewish schools almost five hours before I posted your ask, not right before. I totally accept that you hadn't seen it, and am not implying that you condone violence against Jewish people. I pointed it out only to explain why I would approach with caution any anonymous message I received shortly afterwards that asked me to "clarify my stance on the existence of Israel" because my reblogs were "confusing" to them.
You gave no indication of your own stance. For all I knew, you were a hard-core Zionist, or someone calling for the annihilation of all Israelis. I'm sure you can understand my caution.
As to how you might ensure your asks land on more receptive ears, in my personal experience I recommend being clear, giving context, and sharing your own perspective. Again, you did not share your own stance. It took four messages for you to give any indication of your own beliefs, while asking me for mine.
As someone who has received a lot of anonymous asks, it's always incredibly frustrating to receive an ask that says something like, "I simply can't stand with middle-ground views". To the person receiving the ask, you are not standing for ANYTHING. You are an anonymous person on the internet who won't put their url to their own message. You are asking me a hugely complex, broad, and incredibly sensitive question while refusing to share your own view, and then getting snippy when you don't get the answer you've requested. Know that to the person on the receiving end, it comes across as incredibly entitled.
And as for your actual question, I find it hard to understand why you would phrase your question the way you did ("Please can you clarify your stance on the existence of Israel?"), let alone think it was something I was likely to answer in a hashtag!
If you wanted to know if my views were aligned with the op-ed I posted, you could have just asked! That's a totally legitimate question and one I'm trying to figure out myself (my honest answer? I don’t have an answer) If you'd initially asked if I was a Zionist, I'd have questioned whether you'd ever read my blog before and what prompted you to ask, but I'd have answered (no).
This is long, but I wanted to answer properly because it applies to lots of asks I've received over the years and maybe will continue to receive, and maybe it'll resonate with you or someone else. And thank you for taking the time to explain your perspective.

[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3]
Luka wasn't sure why Marinette had called him over that day. As far as he knew, she was busy with projects, though he wouldn't complain about spending some time with her.
Still, he found himself tensing and steeling himself up as he walked up the stairs to her living room. The hum of her sewing machine could be heard as he got closer, reminding him of clothes, which led to the thought of thread, which then brought his mind to the red string of fate wrapped around her neck. His last venture as Viperion seemed to have improved his sensing, so now he could see someone's red string even if the person on the other end wasn't nearby.
Needless to say, he wasn't looking forward to it with Marinette.
He closed the living room door behind him, then went up the staircase, knocking to let Marinette know he was there. The sound of the sewing machine stopped, and he heard her footsteps come closer followed by the slight creak of the trapdoor.
Marinette's face was revealed to him, offering him a smile, and Luka tried not to stare too much at the red string still tied around her neck. He swallowed, but smiled back at her, which was genuine enough even if he was uncomfortable.
"Come on up," she welcomed, holding the trapdoor up for him. He nodded and walked up the rest of the stairs, hearing the trapdoor close behind him as he took a look around the room. He felt Marinette's eyes on him, but she voiced her thoughts before he could wonder about them.
"You didn't bring your guitar?" she asked.
He glanced at his back, then at her, having no way of telling her the real reason why he'd chosen not to bring it. "Yeah, I didn't. Sorry, did you want me to play for you?"
"Oh! No, it's okay—I mean, of course I love it when you play for me so I always want—but I understand!" She thankfully dropped the subject there, turning away to return to her seat. "You can make yourself at home or help yourself to the fridge downstairs if you want anything!"
"Thanks," he said with a smile, heading over to her chaise lounge and taking a seat on it. Even with Marinette's chair turned away from him while she used her sewing machine, he could still see the red string dangling off the side, though it faded into full transparency before it hit the floor.
In truth, he'd left his guitar behind to force himself to use less music and more words. He didn't want to hide behind it to try and ease his situation or make himself more comfortable with everything. The situation the love of his life - and more importantly, his friend - had gotten into through no fault of her own was horrible, and no matter how uncomfortable he was, he couldn't have been any more uncomfortable than her being strangled by fate itself.
He watched her, waiting for a lull in her work to ask, "Did you need anything?"
"Hm?" She looked over her chair to meet his gaze.
"I'm happy to be here anyway, but I didn't know if you needed me for something," he clarified.
"Oh." She understood. Waving a hand dismissively, she assured, "No! I just invited you here to hang out—" She gestured to her sewing machine, her eyes a bit shifty. "—with me, while I was busy but totally happy and relaxed and everything!"
Her wording was inherently suspicious. His eyes scanned over the room, noting the projects littered about that seemed so plentiful. He supposed he hadn't exactly been subtle in his concern for her, but he wasn't sure of exactly what tipped her off or made her feel like she had to "prove" her happiness to him.
Besides, he knew better, and he knew her. Even with the smile she gave him, her brows were furrowed and twitching, a tiredness to her eyes that definitely didn't show what he would call "happiness."
He gave her a nod anyway, not wanting to call her out when he was still piecing things together himself, and he didn't want to confirm her worries if she was merely suspecting that he felt that way.
He leaned back while she returned to working, his hand on the cushion underneath him as he considered what to say. If Sass was right in his beliefs, then Luka indeed had the power to change Marinette's fate, though there wasn't any specific method of how. He thought back to all of their conversations, wondering what he would've done differently if he'd known beforehand and trying not to get bogged down by "what if"s or blame himself for it.
He stared silently at the back of Marinette's head, remembering the day at the ice rink when he saw the same thing. She'd been running away, or more specifically running towards Adrien after he'd encouraged her to do so. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time, but from what he gathered from interactions he'd either seen or heard about, it hadn't gone anywhere. Maybe it hadn't even gone well at all.
Maybe he'd made a mistake?
Luka's mind grew heavy with the thoughts, his body falling back to lay down on Marinette's chaise. He didn't regret doing what he felt was right, but now he wondered if his wording could've been better.
"You should probably go over and talk to him."
He hadn't exactly been thinking at the time - a lot had happened that day - but he noted that he could've asked her how she felt. He could've questioned her on if she really wanted to go after Adrien. It was possible she'd wanted to go home on the subway with him, but was convinced to chase Adrien when he brought it up. Luka just imagined Marinette seeing Adrien and Kagami together, the red string tightening around her neck and then loosening when she was presented with the prospect of going after him.
He felt like he was the one being strangled, just thinking about it.
"Luka?"
He looked up, surprised, seeing that Marinette had stopped sewing at some point and had come to sit on the chaise lounge with him. She hovered over him, concern written across her features and the red string taunting him with its mere existence. Luka knew by now that she was very worried about him, and trying to wriggle or half-lie out of it wasn't going to convince her. He'd just really thought that she would've been sewing for longer.
He also jolted up into a sitting position upon realizing that he probably looked like he was making himself too comfy on her chaise lounge. She didn't seem to mind at least.
"...Marinette," he said slowly, trying to put his thoughts in order. She leaned closer as a sign that she was giving him her attention, and he continued, "Do you know why I let you go that day?"
She tilted her head and he belatedly caught that he hadn't been specific, still too lost in his own head. He opened his mouth to clarify, but realization struck Marinette before he could speak, her brows raising in recognition.
"Oh!" she gasped. Though the conversation was sudden, she didn't seem to mind rolling with it. "Um, yeah, I wondered about that sometimes. I mean, I knew that you knew that I—but I didn't know that you—but if you didn't back then, I—"
"No, your song was definitely in my head, even back then," he confirmed casually, smiling as he added, "Since the day we met, remember?"
She blushed at the mention of his confession, but nodded. "Y-yeah." Then, seeming to rethink the moment with that information in mind, she asked, "...Why did you let me go then?"
His eyes flickered to the red string, then back up to her face. "I want you to be happy, Marinette, no matter who it's with. I thought that Adrien would do that, but I hope I didn't make you feel like you had to go after him."
She blinked, the thought having seemingly not even occurred to her. She averted her gaze, her eyes darting around at nothing in particular. "Is...is that why you were looking like that?"
He didn't answer, but that was answer enough for her.
"Oh, Luka," she murmured sympathetically. "I—well—" She shifted uncomfortably. "—I shouldn't be talking to you about this. It'd be wrong when my feelings are so messed up. You..."
He shook his head. "You can talk about Adrien if you want. I'd be happy if you relied on me more."
He meant it. Even regardless of his fate sensing, he wanted Marinette to feel comfortable talking to him, even if it was about her love problems. He didn't want their relationship to be changed because of his feelings for her.
"Even more?" She raised a brow, the concept confusing her, but she didn't question him further. She hesitated, rubbing her cheek in thought, then dropped her hands to her lap and twiddled her fingers. "I-I don't know; about Adrien, I mean. I—" She sighed, giving a halfhearted shrug. "—he's not interested in me. He likes Kagami, but the girls kept telling me that I shouldn't give up on him because of how hard I tried." Then, stiffening, she waved her hands and rapidly assured, "N-not anything against your sister, of course! That's just what happened—and—" She huffed in frustration. "—it feels like I hit a wall, and I'm not going anywhere. Adrien doesn't notice me and I can't talk to him and... I'm tired."
Luka nodded silently to let her know that he was both listening and sympathetic towards her plight, also not wanting to interrupt her.
"Of course I tried hard, but Adrien and Kagami seem like they're good for each other and they should be happy together. Just, whenever I think of giving up or not trying, I..." She raised a hand to her neck in a gesture that he immediately understood. "It hurts, and Alya's always trying to get me together with Adrien no matter what I say. Maybe she knows best and maybe she's right, and that's why I always end up in crazy situations with him. Plus, everyone..." She looked away, her voice not having the enthusiasm one would imagine her next words would go with. "...everyone keeps saying we're made for each other."
Luka clutched his leg to ground himself while struggling to keep a straight face. He'd certainly never heard that one before, but it stung like his neck did just thinking about it. His lips pressed together, trying to contain his emotions, but he couldn't help blurting out, "No one's made for anyone."
She blinked at him, shocked, but he didn't take it back or apologize for saying it so suddenly. He recognized the fact that he was talking about destined love being nonexistent when he himself knew that "fate" was very much a real thing, but his actual opinion on the subject hadn't changed. As far as he was concerned, fate's "opinion" was about as valid as anyone else's when it came to someone else's relationship.
"No matter what Alya, or even Rose, say about you and who you love, Marinette, all that matters is you and who you want to play for. You deserve someone who makes you happy." He paused, lamenting the reality that she really hadn't gotten to think about it. "Does Adrien make you happy?"
He saw the string tighten, Marinette opening her mouth to respond before she seemed to stop herself. He felt like apologizing, but knew she wouldn't understand even if he did. She frowned, staring down at her lap and appearing conflicted with herself, so he reached out and carefully hovered his hand over her shoulder in a show of comfort. She glanced at his hand, noticing the gesture, but didn't immediately give him any sort of permission.
Then, to his surprise, she brought her hand up, gently grabbing his wrist and lowering it so his hand was placed perfectly on her shoulder. She didn't even let go, keeping his wrist held like she needed his hand there.
"...Luka," she whispered, her voice shaking, "I—no, you'll laugh, or think I'm crazy."
He squeezed her shoulder, not hesitating to insist, "I won't. I'm here for you, Marinette."
She finally met his gaze, and he saw a vulnerability there that wasn't there before. She was nervous, whether of his potential reaction to whatever she had to say, or something else entirely.
She took a breath, her fingers tightening around his wrist as she composed herself. The silence stretched, though he could tell that she was steeling herself up.
"The—the Adrien pictures," she began, tossing a pointed look to the wall where they were. "I don't remember putting them there."
He kept his expression schooled, not wanting her to overthink his reactions. Careful and quiet, he asked, "What do you mean?"
"I-I mean, obviously I started putting them there, back when I first met him," she admitted, "but I took them down. They'd been down for a while."
Luka could confirm that. He'd been to Marinette's room before when she'd been sending in their Kitty Section audition to Bob Roth, and the pictures weren’t there.
She continued, "I-it hurt when I did it, but I did, and I threw most of them away. But then—when I wake up sometimes, they're back, and I don't remember putting them up. I-I mean, maybe I did but I just don't remember it? I stay up late sometimes and I won't remember falling asleep, so it might be like that, you know? I-I know you're not exactly like me and I'm sure you don't sleepily put pictures on your wall but..."
He smiled as best as he could, even though he was hurting inside. "I know as well as you do that creativity doesn't have a schedule."
She managed a smile in return, but it returned to a frown as she dropped her gaze to her lap. "A-anyway, I can forget things, but it's never been that bad, and sometimes they'll be gone for a while but then they'll be back a few days later. There's just—there's no other explanation, so it has to be me, right? I-I don't know if it's a sign or what, but if it is then I don't know what it's telling me? Because whenever there are a lot of pictures—" She made a vague gesture with a wave of her free hand, cringing as she added, "—something humiliating always happens. That usually gets me to take them down again, but then... well, you know." She rubbed the back of her neck with a hand, blushing in embarrassment. "Sorry, I probably sound crazy. I-I swear, I'm not trying to—"
"I believe you."
Her mouth halted mid-sentence, hanging open as she stared at him.
"I believe you, Marinette," he repeated, giving her shoulder another squeeze. He didn't need any further detail to know what happened, as there was no way Marinette would take down those pictures and then put them back up the next day, or even the day before that. It didn't make any sense, and while he hadn't seen the wisps of fate move things or brush them aside, he had seen them trip Marinette, meaning they had some level of physical control. It explained it all: the convenience of the pictures appearing and disappearing, as well as the amount of them there'd be.
"T-thank you," she murmured, her lips briefly moving to form extra words but nothing coming out. She looked shy, possibly from admitting something she hadn't told anyone before, but she at least wasn't so nervous anymore.
"You don't need to thank me," he assured, "but you're welcome. Just know that you can tell me anything."
She ducked her head, peeking up at him to ask, "How much do you want to know?"
"Whatever you're comfortable sharing with me," he replied.
"Everything?" She'd said it quickly, as if she'd blurted it out, but she didn't panic afterward. She merely looked at him, hope in her eyes.
He nodded without hesitation, wanting her to be certain that he meant it. She searched his gaze for a few more seconds, one last shred of doubt remaining, but he knew he'd convinced her when her body relaxed and she smiled at him with her whole heart. Her grip on his wrist lightened, her hand sliding off and back down to her side. He pulled back as well, his heart a mixture of emotions but mostly just happy to see her happy.
"I..." She turned away, facing her trapdoor. "I'm going to get some snacks first."
He watched as she pushed herself up, then stood as well to follow after her. "Do you want any help carrying them?"
She looked at him, confused. "You don't have to."
Instead of responding with the obvious - that he wanted to - he simply replied, "You're not alone anymore, Marinette."
He didn't need to elaborate for her to understand. He let himself get lost in the warmth of her gaze, hoping that he might see it more one day if he could ever get her string removed, even if her warm gaze would end up being for someone else.

and, if Albedo have his own personal botanist, what about xiao have his own personal chef, or something like that? the reader working at wangshu inn as the chef or maid 👀 (this the request... If you want to make something from this absurd idea 👀👀)
Hehe I like your thought process, anon. Albedo and Xiao really just: 😏👉👉 *finger guns* 👈👈 😑 for having reader assistants in my masterlist huh.
Making this solely a personal chef/maid thing would defo make this response hella short so I added in more info and background just like I did with Albedo's, so I hope you guys end up enjoying this one too!!
It isn't an absurd idea, but I sure as hell made an absurd answer to it kek
Xiao's Devoted "Chef"
Xiao with a Reader who is not only his Personal Chef but assistant
Tumblr media
Background (let's gooo)
The arrival of the Adepti Yaksha in Wangshu Inn was really something I've been intrigued about for a while now, but I won't make much assumptions here because his banner is coming and more info would be given to us.
Xiao had long since been residing in and spends a majority of his time in this Inn yet its owners, Verr Goldet and Huai'an, barely knows anything about the adepti or his lifestyle.
So on a sunny, quaint day like any other where calmness passes through the lands without worry, they expected the Adepti to resign himself to a moment of peace and rest too.
So color them surprised when they save the familiar silhouette of the adepti ascending to the top floor. Porcelain white skin and clear tank top glittered with fresh blood as a broken and bruised figure lays unconscious in his arms. The couple was thankful that there were no customers out and about that day, because it would be a disaster for an audience to witness such a thing. Also bad for business, but they'll hold that in at the back of their mind.
Skilled workers were quick to work with their seemingly extensive experience with such a protocol. As they tended to the victim, the Boss stayed behind to tend to and inquire with the Adepti. Yet such a conversation between them came out strained:
There were no visible wounds that require immediate medical attention but there was a look in his eyes that feels much more broken than anything they can fix. Verr's hands hover over him in an attempt to urge him to clean up his still bloodied form. His amber eyes that were usually sharp looks through a distance light-years away.
"Xiao," the woman started and the eyes snapped out of its reverie, subtly looking around to ground himself. "What happened? And are you okay?"
"Their- the parents died from a Hilichurl ambush, I was only able to save the child," his crossed arms gripped at his forearm in the realization of his utter mistake. "32 seconds."
"32 seconds?" The Mondstadtian offered a fresh set of hot towels he had taken, and he had flinched when he saw the carnage that stuck close to his skin.
"I was 32 seconds late."
Your parents were adventurers who brought you with them as big fans of traveling and nomadic lifestyle, no set home yet freely living by. You were in your younger teens and you'd clarified you had no other family to go to.
The death of your parents came as an obvious shock to your young self yet you grieved in silence and sobs, as the only person you trust hovers next to where you rest in silent contemplation.
Verr knows that look, and it was something she hasn't seen on the Adepti before. Of pure guilt and a sense of responsibility.
That night you rested surprisingly nightmare-free as your savior stands his ground next to where you rest.
Present Times
The couple had adopted you into the Inn family without a second's hesitance and you were thankful for them as you were to Xiao. You were no heavy expense or disadvantage and that made it all the more easier to adapt into your new lifestyle.
Despite no words or explanation, you were perfectly aware of the deeds your savior had done to save you and keep you alive, and with that you had sworn to serve him until the end of your time. A life for a life, equivalent exchange.
Coming into terms with being in Liyue and the Inn, your life choices were meddled with commerce and the importance of livelihood. You were young but your guilt of being under the care of such people forced you to take on any and every responsibility you can handle.
Despite your background you were expertly skilled with cooking. Your mother and father always taught you the importance of a meal for adventurers whenever you'd camped out. And your special touch on dishes that saves adventurers had drawn in many appetites.
Business boomed and the Inn wasn't just famous for being a temporary residence, but a sanctuary that offers tastes paired with the divine sense of Celestia. You became Wangshu Inn's Head Chef, with your sous-chef Smiley Yanxiao.
At times where Xiao is forced to make rounds to seize looming threats, he'd find himself picking fresh and healthy ingredients he'd find on the way back and present to you for new recipes to experiment on.
But you also pride yourself with a different title, or titles: The Adepti's Personal Chef, Tender of the Yaksha, Adepti's Devotee.
This title was emphasized by the Sigil of Permission sewn into an armband hanging by your right arm, something you proudly wear even beyond the walls of the Inn.
You found out the Adepti's favorite during your daily visit and breaks, usually done so by hanging out in the balcony with him with a brand new recipe you recently made and wanted to test out.
While he sat parallel to you, he eyed the transparent syrup and the gelatinous substance in the obvious curiousity he shows for all your new creations, silently awaiting your opinion by watching your expression: whenever you show even the slightest distaste, he'll pointedly ignore his curiousity and the dish altogether. And if you express such pride and achievement, his interest will get the better of him, if you haven't offered the dish quickly enough.
"What is this?" He'd finally ask after your delighted moans, indulging on your own creation.
"Mmm, Almond Tofu... do you wish to try it?" Without an answer he'd pick up the only spoon on the plate and tasted it himself. And just like that, he'd froze, eyes full blown in surprise and awe.
"Do you like it?" He can only hum in response as he scarfs down the plate by himself, chewing respectfully yet with a hint of vigor in every scoop. "It tastes... like dreams..." the way he looked at you, with eyes possessing such childlike wonder, you couldn't help but fall.
After that, Xiao had requested a daily plate/offering of it. It became a routine to the point that all workers heard of the favoritism and are encouraged to learn the recipe. But it's usually your dish that is served, unless special occasions calls for someone else.
There has been an influx of dormers and adventurers recently as citizens around Teyvat flock to the Liyue continent in hopes to watch the most extravagant celebration of the new year, the Lantern Rite Festival.
Your best efforts manning the kitchen together with Yanxiao took gruelling hours just to prepare for the dinner's first course even with hours of prep time available. Even both bosses had to lend some hands as your sous-chef can barely keep up with your stride. And after the dishes are finally distributed to the dining hall, you were already set in cleaning up the kitchen, and before you knew it-
"It has been an hour."
"It was a busy day, I'm sorry, Xiao." You could only muster a mumble in guilt as you kept your head down on the usual table, refusing to look at the disapproving expression he definitely wore, except he doesn't. His face has the slightest hints of worry and wonder at your deflated composure.
But his focus now was on the food he has been craving the whole day, already digging into his dessert. And you just tried your hardest not to fall asleep on the cold, wooden tabletop. Until your tummy rumbled through the silence.
A hum. "You haven't eaten?" You shake your head as you lift your head, gazing at the cute sight of your guardian tilting his head to the side in slight distaste for your lifestyle. You open your mouth to retort until you felt the cold utensil touch your bottom lip. "Here, I saved you the last bite. After this, get yourself a meal and retreat to your quarters, I don't want to hear any excuses." He softly urges a little push with the spoon so you get the hint, and you wrap your lips around it, chewing and gulping down cold dessert. He offered his favorite food, used the same spoon, and spoon fed you with it—
"Wha... don't- don't bite the spoon," you squeeze your eyes tight from the embarrassing thoughts in your head.
When people wish to have an audience with Xiao, most of the time they head to you for guidance after inquiring with Verr. They require a sigil of permission, and most of the times, your own sigil has been under fire a lot in their desperation.
An old merchant who desperately wants to hire the adepti to aid his caravan with personal security once tried to claw at your armband, but a split second after the tip of his fingers had touched the cloth, he was blown away to the nearest wall.
"What-," a pressure on your left shoulder pulls your other against a lean chest, protectively squeezing as a polearm materialized in front of you. You can feel the ragged vibrations of the Yaksha's unusually heavy breaths, his amber eyes sharp and dangerous, dilated like a predator.
"What gives you the idea that you had the authority to lay a hand on my assistant?" Black and teal embers conjure around you two as a dark shadow slowly creeps up from the ground. "That is their sigil of permission; I want nothing to do with you mere mortals."
If not for Verr and the other staff, things would have gone gruesome and unsightly for the business. Yes, business. Everyone disliked the guy enough to care more about the Inn than his actual well-being. When he'd come to, he was forced out of the Inn (he would have done so himself anyways as he was already traumatized).
"Sir Xiao, why did you do that?"
"He didn't have a Sigil, he was pretty much asking for it. And why have you gone formal?" You pouted at him and his only response was a quirked eyebrow. Walking over to stand behind him, you slowly wiggled your arms through the gap between his waist and slack arms, finding it easy enough with how thin his waist is as you wrapped him in a hug.
He tensed from the secretly ticklish feeling before letting down his guard in your arms. This was one of your leeway as his most devoted follower. Your constant exposure with the aid of the divine sigil has made you immune to the negative effects of Adeptal energy, enough to make him nigh worry about your safety around him anymore.
And him letting you hug him like this... let's just say it's from your mannerisms of comfort when you were still young and around him.
"Take an indefinite leave," Xiao broke the silence a few minutes after, forcing you to crane your head to the side to look at him. He meets your gaze with an amused glint. "You have no debt to pay here, you shouldn't be holed up in a place like this."
"It is true that me leaving wouldn't have majooor repercussions, but what's with the sudden idea?"
He huffs. "You're my only follower and yet you divide your attention serving temporary mortals that will pass by without remembrance. And besides," you tense at the sight of an upturn on the edge of lip, pearly whites subtly peeking, "personal does not mean sharing."
You were an adventurer at heart and it's time you indulge in that glorified life of excitement, with your guardian by your side. It was the only gift he can come up with for your undying devotion.

analyzing every gojohime moment in the manga p2
part 1 is here :3
this post includes more excruciatingly long paragraphs so grab urself something and enjoy LOL
Tumblr media
chapter 40
i know they’re not interacting in this panel but i still want to bring it up.  i’m gonna give some context to this scene in case someone needs to jog their memory.  so basically, mei’s ability to command crows is what allows the staff to observe the students from afar.  however, gojo notices that there’s lack of footage where yuuji is and asks mei why that’s so.  she tells him that they’re animals at the end of the day so she can’t control what they look at.  he doesn’t believe her so he asks her whose side she’s on (for yuuji’s execution vs against yuuji’s execution) to which she responds with, “whose side?  i’m on the side with money, of course.  there’s no value in something that can’t be bought since you can’t exchange that for money.”  in other words, she’ll always choose the side that offers her more money because she doesn’t care about how morally “correct” or “incorrect” something is.  it’s not worth fighting for a cause that doesn’t benefit her in the long run which is why she views things that are unable to be bought (friendships, relationships, favors) as useless - they can’t be exchanged for money.  it’s clear that gojo knows she’s not on his side because he replies with, “spoken from experience!” or “i wonder how much!” (translation varies).  he says it out loud to perhaps let gakuganji know that he’s onto him.  i find it interesting how utahime is in the panel as well with a “?” to express her confusion at his words.  let’s overthink dissect that.  why is she there in the first place? if the message was to let gakuganji know that gojo is aware of his ulterior motives then a panel with gakuganji and gojo would have sufficed.  why add utahime with a question mark?
here’s a personal headcanon of mine that makes no absolute sense, but who cares? it makes me happy LOL.  so let’s examine the panel.  gojo’s face is more simplified and cartoonish with a grey background on top and some sort of white bubble surrounding the three characters.  gakuganji is staring at utahime and gojo.  in the official viz translation, he replies to mei with, “i wonder how much!”
normal and logical explanation: shading the principal by asking out loud how much mei was paid by him to avoid monitoring yuuji.
gojohime brainrot explanation:
mei: “there’s no value in something that can’t be bought since you can’t exchange that for money”
gojo: (in response) i wonder how much utahime’s love would cost if it did have a price.
utahime: ?
you’re probably thinking i’m delulu (true) BUT HEAR ME OUT.  IT WOULD SOMEWHAT MAKE SENSE IN THIS CONTEXT...
mei’s saying seems to be what she lives by.  relationships, love, friendships, etc. do not matter to her as this is evident when she ultimately abandons everyone in shibuya to escape to malaysia, selling all her stocks before japan’s economy goes down.  she doesn’t care about anyone else.  she even takes advantage of ui ui’s adoration for her.  she contrasts utahime.  utahime is loved by her students.  children, especially teenagers, are picky when it comes to choosing the adults they admire and respect.  while everyone trusts gojo, they do not respect him because of his childishness and overall absurdity.  it’s refreshing to see how they always call him an idiot or have a -_- face when he’s around.  when akutami says everyone absolutely adores utahime-sensei, it says a lot.  we haven’t seen her interact with her students all that much, but she’s obviously close to them because she’s frequently arguing with momo.  even a closed off person like mechamaru wanted to keep her away from danger.  she most certainly expresses a lot of concern and care for her students, and gojo and her students can pick up on this.
i’ve talked about this in every post LOLOL but there’s a reason why he went to utahime first to help him investigate.  utahime is a loyal person through and through.  she would never do something that harms the students even if she was offered everything in the world.  she values relationships above everything else.  besides her concern for the students, how else was i able to come to this conclusion about her character?  well, she got shoko to stop smoking because she was worried about how it might damage her friend’s health.  from these two details, it’s obvious that she’s the complete opposite of mei.
maybe that’s why he calls her weak.  she’s too selfless and compassionate in a world where every sorcerer is for themselves.  the world is cruel as a sorcerer.  no matter how hard you try to fight, in the end, you’ll always die alone.  remember his talk with megumi after the baseball game?  after witnessing megumi pull a sacrificial bunt to help his teammates advance, gojo has a talk with megumi about his attitude and potential.  he says that being selfless and caring about others is not a bad thing, but in a world like this, where people always die alone, he is wasting his potential by being concerned with others.  it’s okay to be selfish.  this is why we see fierce independence in a lot of the sorcerers like mei, nanami, and gojo.  they each have their own reasons as to why they work alone, but it’s still a common characteristic.  i feel like utahime doesn’t have a selfish bone in her body.  i speculate that her selflessness is the exact reason why she is being held back.  during her mission to exorcise a grade 1 spirit by herself, the final task before being promoted to grade 1, she likely got distracted trying to help civilians out of danger and failed her mission.  he’s right when he says she doesn’t have the guts to be the traitor, utahime doesn’t have it in her to do something so boldly solely for her own benefit.
after this long tangent, how does this relate to your headcanon, ootahime?
as you know, love is not transactional.  you can’t pay someone to love you.  what if gojo is asking himself how much it would cost to buy her love.  hence, her confusion because she is oblivious to what he really means.  it could be probable because gakuganji is observing not only gojo, but utahime as well.  so what gojo says must involve her too, right?
or she could just be confused because his words seem out of place because she is unaware of what gakuganji is doing behind everyone’s back.  that explanation makes sense for viz’s official translation but it doesn’t make sense when he says, “spoken from experience!” because his words make sense in that context.  he’s basically saying that mei’s beliefs must be based on her past experiences so he understands why she feels this way.  that’s an appropriate response to mei’s statement so i don’t see why utahime would be confused by this.  unless i’m interpreting this whole scene completely wrong.  in that case, whoopsies!
let me know if you’re confused because i’m willing to clarify.  idk why but i found this really difficult to explain.  maybe because i’m reaching so hard haha
Tumblr media
chapter 40
he finds any way he can to tease her.  they seem like a married couple watching a movie or something.  does he take pride in being the only person she doesn’t get along with?  i mean, she says it herself so he is aware she thinks he’s annoying, but he keeps picking on her anyway.  he doesn’t even pick on his enemies this much LMAOOO i think the only other person he likes to make fun of is gakuganji but he does so because he doesn’t agree with his views.  with utahime it’s different.  he trusts her a lot and even looks out for her.
Tumblr media
chapter 44
why are there two separate instances of gakuganji observing utahime and gojo’s interactions from afar?  nah i’m just playing.  he’s just looking because he’s concerned she’ll run into the semi-grade 1 curse he had for yuuji.  OKAY BUT I NOTICED SOMETHING KINDA CUTE?  whenever utahime says something suddenly, he always has those 3 little triangles near his head.  it’s like he’s thinking, “oh!  utahime is speaking, i must listen <3″  look at his face too.  he’s looking at her like :O
this is also an example of her showcasing her concern for the students in front of gojo.  i feel like he questions why she’s so caring because if it were him, he would have left the student to figure it out themselves.  i really wonder how she would react if he answered her truthfully when she asked what he’d do if she were the traitor.
Tumblr media
chapter 45
there’s not much to say here...they’re just cute.  i know it’ll never happen but i’d like to see them fight side by side one day.  i’m aware that gojo works best alone but i just want to see how they’d work together, okay? 😔
Tumblr media
chapter 45
see the little triangles on his head again?  UGH SO CUTE.
Tumblr media
chapter 45
IS THIS NOT INTENTIONAL???  they share the same thoughts.  he even finished her thought.  mannnnnnnnnnnnn what is akutami doing?  giving us false hope and stripping it away just for fun?  making them work so well together for what??
Tumblr media
chapter 52
cute how he looks out for her.  i have nothing more to say LOL
Tumblr media
chapter 53
notice how they’re sitting across from each other?  HEHE
Tumblr media
chapter 53
yet another instance of her caring for her students in front of gojo.  in the anime she has the cutest expression when she says she’s glad the students are safe.  i bet gojo saw that too.  i also bet that she looks prettier from his point of view.
Tumblr media
extra
from the manga and light novels, gojo and utahime are the ones that talk about sports the most.  he most definitely chose baseball to cheer her up.  it’s not a coincidence people!

Everytime We Kiss
Hey hey everyone! Here’s the first social media fic with O’Knutzy! It was a lot of fun to write and it’s an idea I’ve been sitting on for a while, because I wanted them to be part of it. Hope you enjoy! Sweater Weather/ O’Knutzy credit goes to @lumosinlove!
“Hey, Lions, welcome back to Lion Pride! I’m your host, Dorcas Meadowes.” She smiled at the camera. “We’re here today with James and Lily Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Leo Knut, Finn O’Hara, and Logan Tremblay to do a series of challenges. That’s a lot of names.”
“I’m surprised you managed that in one breath,” Leo laughed.
“Leo, Logan, and Finn, this is your first time in one of our couples videos. Do you have any thoughts about that?”
“I’ve heard they’re terrifying,” Finn said. “But everyone seemed to have fun, so I’m kind of excited.”
“You’ve got nothing to worry about.” Dorcas winked at the camera and Logan raised his eyebrows.
“What was that look for? Should we be afraid?”
“Nah.” Another wink. “Anyway, let’s get started! We talked about this before we started filming, but just to clarify: you’re all cool with kissing each other and making physical contact?”
Lily snorted. “As long as I don’t have to make out with anyone, sure.”
James pouted his lower lip. “Anyone?”
“Not on camera, lover boy.”
“That’s fair.”
The camera cut to a title screen and words curled across the screen. Challenge Number One: Identify Your Partner By Touching Their Face
Lily sat on a couch, blindfolded, while James, Sirius, and Leo sat in chairs across from her. Sirius scooted forward and carefully took her hands, placing them on his face. She felt along his chin, nose, and forehead before pausing at his cheekbones. “Is this Sirius?” she asked with a grin. “I think this is Sirius.”
“You only have to identify James,” Dorcas said off-camera.
“This definitely isn’t James, but I’m ninety percent sure this is Cap. His cheekbones could cut glass.” The boys switched seats and James took Sirius’ place. Lily hummed when she touched his temples. “This might be him. Did you take his glasses off?”
“Yes.”
“Bummer, he looks cute with them.” James struggled to keep down a smile and Lily ran her thumbs down his cheeks. “Oh, I feel dimples! I think I found him.”
“You have one more to try.”
Leo swapped places with James and Lily started to laugh as soon as she felt his jaw. “Aw, baby face! This isn’t James. I’m going to go with Leo, since he’s got those cute little cheeks. Wait, wait.” She ran her thumbs down his nose and nodded. “This is Leo Knut. Button nose rookie. Number two was Jamie, though.”
“Alright, take your blindfold off.”
“Hell yeah!” She high-fived James when she removed the fabric. “Knew it.”
“New rule: you can’t smile while someone is touching your face,” Dorcas said.
The next person on the couch was Sirius, and he looked incredibly nervous beneath his blindfold. “Re, if I fail miserably at this, please know that I’m sorry.”
Remus was the first in line and had to cover his mouth to stop laughing before putting Sirius’ hands on his face.
“I don’t have to guess everyone, right?”
“Correct. Lily was just being an overachiever.”
“Hmmm.” He traced Remus’ cheeks and Remus closed his eyes with a slight smile. “This might be him, honestly. Long eyelashes. Un moment.” Sirius trailed his fingers along Remus’ lips. “I think this is Re? His upper lip is rounder at the top, and I can feel the tilt right here.” He touched the edge of his mouth and Remus’ eyes crinkled at the corners.
“Next person,” Dorcas said.
Lily took Remus’ place and Sirius immediately grinned. “This is Lily.”
“How do you know?”
“Because I can do this!” He lightly pinched her cheeks and gave them a squish. “She likes to make fun of Leo for having a baby face, but Harry has the exact same cheeks.”
“Alright, final person.”
“Oh, this is a tough one.” Sirius bit his lip as he felt along Finn’s face. “The jawline is like Re’s and his nose is really straight. Mon dieu, it’s either the first one or this one.”
“Do you want to try the first one again?”
“Sure.” Remus slid to the front and guided Sirius’ hands up. “Why did I do this to myself? Okay, the last one had a longer face, but the lip thing is really throwing me off. Is this—is this Finn?”
“I can’t tell you,” Dorcas said.
Sirius paused, then blew out a long breath. “I think the third one is Remus.”
“You can take your blindfold off now.”
“Fuck,” Sirius muttered as he looked at the people on the couch. “I should have gone with my gut!”
“I’m surprised you got us mixed up,” Finn said, scooting over next to Remus. “We don’t look alike.”
“It’s the jawline!” They both turned to look at Dorcas with equally disbelieving looks.
Leo was the last one with the blindfold; next to him, four people sat in the chairs instead of the previous three.
“Okay, Leo, you’ve got an extra challenge. You have to pick both your boys out of the group of four.”
“I think I’m going to be good at this,” he said as James lifted his hands, and stuck his tongue between his teeth in concentration. “This person has broken their nose a lot and their chin is too square for either of them.”
Remus took James’ place and Leo laughed.
“Oh, fuck, this is hard! Cap, I’m sorry for making fun of you. This is either Loops or Finn and I genuinely cannot tell.”
Finn widened his eyes at the camera and Dorcas stifled a snicker. “Third person, go ahead.”
“Okay, I can feel a pointier chin…” Finn’s shoulders relaxed as Leo ran a finger down his nose and over his lips. “This is Harzy.”
Logan was next. “One more, Knut.”
“Alright, I got this.” Leo shook his hands out and felt for Logan’s face, then skimmed them along his forehead. He hesitated, and a slow smile spread across his face. “Hang on. Hang on, I think I’ve got this.” He felt along Logan’s nose and nodded. “Yep. This is Lo.”
“How do you know?” Dorcas asked.
“He’s got a little bump on the bridge of his nose, and I know that because I opened a door into his face two days ago on accident.”
Finn had to press his face into James’ shirt to muffle his laughter. “Okay, you can take the blindfold off now,” Dorcas said.
“Yes!” Leo whooped when he saw the group, not even bothering to take the blindfold off all the way. “I knew I’d be good at this.”
“Peanut, I need you to do something for me.” Finn and Remus both moved their chairs so they were next to each other. “Take a good, long look, okay? Cap, you should get over here as well.”
“Fuck off, Harzy,” Sirius grumbled off-screen.
“Are you sure, baby? It might be a good idea,” Remus said with mock-sincerity.
The camera quickly cut to a title screen. Challenge Number 2: Identify Your Partner By Holding Their Hand
James was the first one up, this time. A long black curtain with a hole cut in the middle hung between his chair and Logan’s. “Do I just reach through?” he asked.
“Yep,” Dorcas answered.
He reached through and fumbled for a moment before Logan laced their fingers together. “Hmm. I don’t think this is Lily because her hands are smaller and softer.”
Logan let go of his hand and stood up so Lily could sit down.
James lit up. “This might be her! We aren’t allowed to wear our rings for the challenges, but this person has smaller hands for sure.”
“Last one.”
James nearly smacked Remus in the arm trying to grab his hand; Remus took his wrist and carefully placed it in the proper spot. “Slender fingers, but the passive-aggressive guidance is throwing me off. I’m gonna go with number two.”
“Alright, look around the corner,” Dorcas said.
He beamed when he saw the line of people. “I got it right! Fuck yeah!”
“Way to go, sweets,” Lily laughed, pecking his cheek.
Remus grinned at him. “Sorry for being passive-aggressive.”
“Are you kidding? That was a huge help.” James gave him a side hug and the video cut to Remus behind the curtain while three new people sat down on the other side.
He reached over and took Sirius’ hand, tilting his head to the side. “This might be Sirius…hmm. This is difficult. It’s definitely warm enough, but the calluses are pretty common among the team. I can’t use both hands, right?”
“Nope.”
“Bummer. The angle isn’t quite right for it to be like we’re walking.” Finn replaced Sirius, who looked mildly affronted. “This isn’t him.”
“Are you sure?”
Remus narrowed his eyes playfully at Dorcas. “Yes, I’m sure. Their hand is cold and way smaller.”
He flexed his fingers as Leo sat down. “Last one.”
As soon as their hands touched, Remus brightened. “This is Sirius!”
“Is that your final answer?” Dorcas asked. Sirius hid his face in the crook of his elbow as Leo’s shoulders began to shake with laughter.
“Yeah, no doubt.” Remus’ face fell and he sighed when he looked around the corner. “Fuck. Well, I guess that explains why I couldn’t figure out who the first person was.”
Sirius put Leo’s palm next to his. “If you can’t tell the difference, I need to hold your hand more.”
“Oh no, what a tragedy,” Remus said sarcastically, linking their hands with a smile. “Such a terrible punishment.”
Logan shook his arms out as he sat down in the chair. “I’m going to do so well with this.”
“Why’s that?” Dorcas sounded amused.
“I have two boyfriends, so someone is constantly holding my hand.” He looked quite smug about that particular fact.
“Yeah, but you have double the number of people to find.”
His smirk dimmed a bit. “True. Nah, I’ve still got this.”
There was a long pause after he reached through the slot and took Sirius’ hand.
“I may have made a mistake.” He closed his eyes and felt along Sirius’ knuckles. “This could be Leo? Maybe? His hand is really warm, but I’m not going to fuck this up like Loops did.”
Behind the curtain, Sirius’ face went pink with suppressed laughter. “Next person?” Dorcas suggested.
“Oui.” Logan bit his lip as Leo linked their hands. “Is this not the same person?”
“Nope.”
“Well, fuck. Can we come back to them?” He wiggled his fingers until Lily sat down and laced them together. “This isn’t either of them. It’s Lily, I think, since she has the smallest hands and I don’t feel any calluses.”
Finn sat down next and Logan paused before smiling to himself. “I think this is Finn. Wait—” He flipped his hand over and ran his thumb along the outside of Finn’s palm. “Yeah, this is Harzy. Can I try the second person again?”
“Sure thing.”
“And that’s Leo.” He gave Leo’s hand a squeeze and Lily covered her mouth with her hands, giving the camera a soft look.
“Alright, you can check now.”
“Ha! I knew I would get it!” Logan hugged both his boys and received two kisses on the head. “We’re going to wipe the floor with these guys, mes amours.”
“Square up, Tremzy,” Sirius scoffed, ruffling his hair as he walked past.
The next title card popped up: Challenge Number Three: Identify Your Partner By Hugging Them
Finn was the first one blindfolded this time and bounced slightly on his toes as the others lined up. Remus stepped to the front and took his hands, placing them carefully around his waist before moving in for a hug. “You’re too tall to be Logan and too short to be Leo, but this is very nice,” Finn muttered. Logan slid over next, grinning from ear to ear. “This is Lo.”
“How do you know?”
“Am I allowed to feel his ass?” Finn teased, making the rest of the group and the camera crew laugh. “No, it’s the shoulders and the height. Also, he put his hands between my shoulder blades.”
“Is that a thing you guys do?” Dorcas asked as Sirius walked forward.
“It’s just a Lo thing—” Finn cut off with a gasp as his arms wrapped around Sirius. “Cap cuddles!”
“What?”
Finn nuzzled his face into Sirius’ shirt. “Cap cuddles. I got banned from them because I fell asleep on him and drooled, which was an accident, but they’re the best.”
“You have one more person.”
“Unless Leo shrank four inches, I know it’s him.” Sirius had to practically pry Finn’s arms off him, resulting in an impressive pout that disappeared as soon as Leo took his place. “Yep, this is the one and only Nutter Butter.”
“You can take the blindfold off now.”
Finn leaned up for a short kiss halfway through pushing it off his head, which Leo happily obliged. Lily was next—she looked incredibly excited as she tied the blindfold over her eyes. “I love getting hugs from my boys,” she said as Finn walked over. “This might be James, actually. Dorcas, are you trying to throw me off by putting him first?”
“Can’t tell you, love.”
“Hmm. Can I try the next person?” Finn stepped aside and Sirius took his place; Lily sank into it with a happy hum. “This is Cap, but I might stay here for a bit and take a nap.”
“I don’t think that’s allowed,” Dorcas laughed. “Last one, go ahead.”
Lily ran her hands along James’ back for a moment before smiling. “I’m pretty sure this is the hubs. The first person was just a little too lanky.”
“Good guess,” James said, kissing her nose as she untied the blindfold.
“I’m not lanky,” Finn protested. “I’m buff and cool.”
Sirius looked far less nervous than before despite the blindfold, standing with his hands in his pockets as the next three people walked in. “Sirius, you seem more confident,” Dorcas remarked.
“I’m going to get this one,” he said with a shrug. “It’s easy.”
“We’ll see about that. First person, you’re up.”
Leo rested his chin on Sirius’ shoulder as they hugged, closing his eyes with a smile. “Aw, rookie.” Sirius pulled back and felt for his cheek, giving it a light pinch. “It’s so fun hugging someone my size.”
“Next?”
“Hey, Pots,” Sirius laughed and gave James a squeeze around the ribs. “Shit, dude, it’s been too long since I hugged you.”
“Are you sure those two were Pots and Leo?” Dorcas asked.
“Yep.” Sirius rocked back on his heels as James rejoined the line. “Leo’s the only one who’s my height, and Pots is my best friend. I know how they hug.”
“Alright, third person can step forward.”
Remus slid against him like a puzzle piece, tucking his face against Sirius’ chest. “There you are,” he said with a soft smile.
“You can take the blindfold off and check,” Dorcas said after a moment.
Neither of them moved; Sirius rested his chin on top of Remus’ head and pulled him closer. “Okay.”
The next title card popped up with lipstick kiss emojis. Challenge Number Four: Identify Your Partner By Kissing Them
“This is the final challenge,” Dorcas warned. “And just to be clear: you’re all okay with kissing each other?”
James snorted. “We all shower in the same room, like, six days a week and I’ve kissed all of them on the cheek about a million times.”
“Lily?”
“Sure, why not?” She shrugged. “It helps that three out of five are gay, though, and the sixth is my husband.”
“Fair point. Alright, Knutty, you get to go first.”
The camera cut for a moment; when it returned, Leo was blindfolded on the same couch as the first challenge, with four people in the chairs. “Okay, I’m ready,” he said. Logan leaned forward and kissed him slowly. “I hope that was one of my boys, because that was good. It’s surprisingly hard to tell, though.”
The chairs squeaked as James took Logan’s place and gave Leo a chaste peck on the lips.
“Well, that’s Pots,” Leo said with a laugh. “Sorry, man, but that was the most bro kiss I’ve ever had.”
James seemed torn between offense and amusement as he switched spots with Remus, who kissed Leo gently.
Leo licked his lips and paused. “…that was one of them. Is it okay if I ask for another one to make sure?” Remus raised his eyebrows at Finn and Logan, who nodded, before leaning back in. “Yeah, I’m gonna say that’s Lo. He’s being so gentle, though, which is new.”
Remus fist bumped Logan as he swapped with Finn, who tilted Leo’s chin up before lip-locking.
“Hiya, Harz, how’s it going?” Leo smiled and kissed him again.
“Are those your final answers?” Dorcas asked.
“Yep. Three and four for sure.” His eyes went wide when he saw the lineup. “Oh my god.”
“I’m so flattered,” Remus said, unable to keep down his laughter anymore.
“I kissed you twice?”
“You did, and it was very nice.”
“So, I need to kiss you more,” Logan said drily. “Because apparently I’m not memorable enough. Fuck’s sake, Peanut!”
“At least I got James and Finn.” Leo ran a hand through his hair.
James was the next one in the chair—once again, he seemed conflicted. “You’re still good, Pots?” Dorcas checked.
“Yep. I have total confidence in my ability to find my wife, but I’ve never actually kissed a guy.”
“Yes, you have,” Leo said off-screen.
James paused. “Good point. Alright, let’s do this.” He scooted forward a bit and Logan took a deep breath before pressing their lips together. There was a beat of quiet when they separated before James started nodding. “Okay. Okay, that was actually pretty nice. Not Lily, but not bad.”
Sirius shook his shoulders out before giving him a quick kiss.
“Was that—that wasn’t Lily.” James bit his lip. “Do it again, I want to make sure.”
Sirius rolled his eyes, but obliged.
“Nope, not Lily. Who the fuck was that?” he muttered as Lily sat down in the chair. She kissed him easily, barely able to keep a smile off her face. James hummed as she pulled away. “Hey, gorgeous.”
“Be sure you’re talking to your wife,” Dorcas reminded him.
“That’s my Lily.” He took his blindfold off and raised his eyebrows. “Cap, you have the softest fucking lips, what the hell?”
“Thank you,” Sirius laughed, reaching over for a high-five as Remus whooped off-camera. “It’s a talent.”
Remus sighed as he tied the blindfold over his eyes. “Why do I have to go last, again?”
“Because that’s the way the cookie crumbles,” Dorcas said. “Pucker up, Loops.”
He cleared his throat and turned to face the chairs, tilting his chin forward; Finn leaned in and pressed a light kiss to his lower lip. “Hmm. Not bad. A solid seven out of ten.”
“Are you rating them?”
“I have to go last, Dorcas.” He pouted slightly and she laughed.
“Go for it. This is what we call workable content.”
Lily’s kiss was brief, but sweet. “Aw, that was Lily, wasn’t it?” he asked affectionately. “She’s wearing lip gloss and it’s kinda sticky.”
“Lily!” Dorcas sounded shocked.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to!” She nudged Remus’ knee with her own. “Rate my kisses, you judgy nerd.”
“I’m not judgy!” he protested. “But just for that, you get a three out of ten.”
“That was the best kiss of your goddamn life and you’re giving it a three?”
He snorted. “Best kiss? Best kiss? You’re cute and I adore you, but no.”
She scoffed and headed to the back of the group, but she was smiling. A grin tugged at the edge of Sirius’ mouth as he leaned in, kissing him slow and deep. Remus’ eyebrows rose as they separated, and he ran a thumb over his lower lip. “Well, that was Sirius. Twelve out of ten.”
“How do you know?”
“Because he bit me,” Remus laughed.
Sirius grinned at the camera, smug as the cat that got the canary. Remus pulled the blindfold off and tipped Sirius’ jaw back over with his index finger for another quick kiss.
“So, Cubs, this was your first video with us,” Dorcas said once all seven of them were sitting down. “Thoughts?”
“That was so much fun.” Logan draped his arm over Finn’s shoulder. “Chaotic, but fun.”
“Yeah, I don’t know what these idiots were groaning about,” Leo teased, bumping Sirius with his elbow.
“Did you get glitter poured on you? Yeah, I thought not.”
“You two were dripping in it for days,” Finn snickered. “It was all over the locker room.”
“Thanks for joining us today,” Sirius interrupted with a fake smile at the camera as he dragged Finn into a light headlock. “Make sure to like and subscribe!”

Hi :,) love your fics so so much and I have so many requests so you’ll be hearin from me a bit as long as your requests are open lol! Hope that’s ok❤️ I was wondering if you could write a Nat x reader fic where reader was kidnapped by hydra and tortured and the team finds her and bring her back to the tower but she’s different now she has powers and is extremely mentally scarred?
Natasha Romanoff x Reader #7
Words: 2,565
Tumblr media
Warnings: Depression, trauma
Notes:
Thank you! I don’t mind at all, thank you for requesting and wanting to in the first place. I think this is my longest fic? Or at least one of...I did it fairly quickly though so sorry for any spelling mistakes and grammar errors.
———
Natasha is scared.
She is more scared than she has possibly ever been, and she’s reckless, and she’s determined, and she’s stupid.
But she finds you. She saves you, and everything else she’s come to regret about the ways she did it, and the way she handled it, doesn’t matter.
She pushes open about the fifteenth door she’s looked through and she sees you, trapped and bloody but alive, tied to a chair, and she’s so full of relief and happiness she doesn’t notice the new haunted look in your eyes.
She rushes towards you, feet pounding on concrete and uncaring of how loud she’s being, and feels tears rush to her eyes.
You’re okay. She saved you.
——-
Natasha is the last person to realize you’re not okay, but perhaps she’s the first to realize the depths of that truth.
She watches you, for the hundredth time since you returned two days ago, and the first ‘wrong’ thing she notices is the way your hand shakes around the spoon you’re eating with.
Then, a couple of hours later she realizes that you’ve hardly spoken.
She hates herself for not noticing sooner, but she has now so she tries to say something, not just about this but about all of the pieces of the broken image Natasha hadn’t allowed herself to see in the relief that she had felt after she had found you.
You’ve always been open and honest with her and she hadn’t thought there’d be a reason for that to change now, but when she asks and reaches out for you you jerk away so fast you almost fall off the bed.
“Don’t touch me, Natasha.”
You growl it out so venomously Natasha is momentary struck frozen. She wonders in the second before you speak again if she has done something wrong.
Then, you release a shaky sad breath and lower your head. “I’m...i’m sorry.”
Natasha says nothing, and so you leave.
—-
“Y/N...she’s not here.”
The mug of coffee Natasha’s holding drops from her hand and shatters violently on the ground. The room is deathly silent, with nothing but the beep from the finished microwave to fill the quiet, and Natasha see’s nothing but you tied and bloodied in the hydra base and hears nothing but the quiet and broken way you had told her you were a “monster now.”
And then she feels nothing but sorrow because this is her fault. She made you pull away, Natasha made you need space from the compound (she asked too many questions again earlier), but she also can’t let you have it.
She is scared again, and she hates how it’s becoming a regular feeling. She’s afraid you're going to get hurt again, so she can’t let you go. Not without her. Not yet.
“I’ll find her,” Natasha grits out, abandoning the glass on the floor and rushing to grab her keys from the kitchen cabinet. “If I don’t in an hour or two i’ll call so you guys can—” Natasha pauses, feeling stupid, “did you...did you call...or text?”
Wanda nods slowly, eyebrows furrowed together. “She answered.”
Everyone waits for Wanda to repeat what you had told her but she doesn’t. Not for a long enough moment that Natasha just considers leaving anyways.
It’s dark out, and it’s thundering, and you didn’t tell anyone you were leaving, so she’s worried. Natasha is worried.
“She said that she needed to escape for a couple of hours, to not come after her, to tell Natasha that she was still breathing.”
A pause. Natasha sets her keys back down.
“She said she was lost, and that she was tired.”
“Lost?” Natasha repeats, her heart stopping for a moment and then leaping into her throat.
“Mentally,” Wanda clarifies, huffing out a sigh.
But you said that you don’t want her to come looking for you, so with all of the will power Natasha can summon she stays, and she waits for you to come home.
——-
Lost, you had told Wanda, but can you be lost when you don’t even remember what you’re searching for anymore. When you don’t remember what it was like to feel ‘home.’
The rain pounds hard on your back, it soaks you wet and makes your clothes stick to your skin the way it did when they were soaked with blood, and it drowns out every noise that isn’t the beat of your heart and the downpour of rain
Hydra had experimented on you and tortured you, and you came out with nothing left of the old you and flames on your hand.
They gave you the power to control fire, to summon fire, to be resistant to it.
That’s what they gave but they took too much more.
The fire you’re supposed to master feels like it’s in you, like it’s burning you away bit by bit and leaving nothing but ashes in its wake, and you’re trying. You tried so hard. You tried to put it out, to stop the change, to reverse it, but you can’t. You can’t so you continue to burn and okay—that was manageable—but it wasn’t supposed to burn Natasha.
It wasn’t supposed to burn your friends.
They look at you now and they see it, Natasha is starting to see it, and you know, you know, you know, they can never love this new you. They will only ache for the loss of the past you—and you never meant to hurt them with change.
There is nothing you can do. All feels lost and hopeless, and you're helpless, so you sit in the rain and shiver with the cold seeping into your skin, and for the first time since you were kidnapped your heart and mind releases itself from the burden of its suffering.
For a moment, looking up at the sky, you’re the old you.
At peace.
——-
You walk into the living room, soaked and dripping water everywhere, and you see Natasha curled up on the couch sleeping.
It stops you in your tracks and has you looking around to check if anyone is there and then moving to crouch by her side to study her.
Even though it feels like every bit of you has changed the love you have for Natasha and the others is still the same. You hadn’t taken time to realize it but it’s such a great relief that you almost release a sob before you manage to bite it down.
The love you have for them is the same, they’re the same, the compound is the same.
As you think about the compound you glance around to see if it truly is the way it was and then you spot a shattered glass mug left on the floor.
It’s Nat’s favorite mug, you realize with a bit of sadness on her behalf.
It isn’t broken too terribly…it’s still recognizable, perhaps it can be pieced back together…
Like you. Maybe. If you still love the way you had, if you still have the memories that you had, maybe it’s enough to make your pieces recognizable enough to be pieced back together.
Or maybe it’s storming outside, and you're soaked to the bone feeling too poetic.
Thunder strikes outside and you jump so violently from both the sound and the images that flash through your head that you almost wake up Natasha.
God, you’re still so pathetic.
With an agonized sigh you push yourself up right again and try to remember where the Avengers keep the super glue.
——
Natasha wakes up slowly then abruptly when she remembers that you’re missing. Fuck, had you not come home last night, Nat wonders, are you hurt, did something happen—
“Y/N fixed your mug,” Clinton says from besides her on the couch, gesturing to the mug on the coffee table. Natasha settles back down. “She said that it probably can’t hold liquid in it anymore, but that if you want to test it and it breaks she’ll fix it again.”
“Where is she?” Natasha asks, ignoring the surge of warmth in her chest in favor of her worry. “Did she look okay?”
“In her room,” he answers, then winces, “or yours.”
“How is she?” Natasha repeats.
Clint thinks about it for a moment. “Physically? I think she’s coming down with a fever. Apparently she was out there in the rain for hours,” He sighs, running a hand through his short hair, “emotionally—”
But Natasha doesn’t let him finish before she’s jumping off the couch and rushing towards your room. You don’t go to hers anymore so when she doesn’t find you in yours she worries that you’ve run again...this time she really can’t let you go. Not while you’re sick.
She can’t—
There’s a note on your bed.
“Stop worrying. I’m in your bed...it’s more comfortable than mine.”
She wishes she could hate how much you know her.
———
When Natasha enters her room it’s to the sound of your raspy coughs and then an out of breath; “i’ve been expecting you.”
Natasha laughs unexpectedly and shakes her head at your ridiculousness. “You’re lighter than usual, despite circumstances,” she says quietly after her laughter dies down.
“Usual,” you repeat, the light in your eyes darkening in an instant. “Usual meaning the past week? Is my...is this me your new normal?”
Natasha doesn’t know what to say, and it seems to make you frustrated.
“You should expect more,” you tell her bitterly, “you should ask for more. You deserve more.”
Natasha steps forward and you physically jolt back. She stops. “You got tortured. What did they do to you?”
You shake your head, once, twice, “stop talking Nat. Stop.”
“You asked me to ask for more. You said I should.”
“I meant other things!” You shout angrily, fire in your eyes. Literally. “I meant you should expect more care, you deserve more than me avoiding you, you—”
“I just want to understand,” Natasha whispers, her shoulders dropping. “I don’t care about anything else, I don’t care if you need to avoid me to deal with things by yourself, but I feel like...like I'm lost too. Like I don’t understand the person I've always understood.”
“Natasha, I'm not ready for you to know me,” you whisper, the weight of her words and your sorrow wrapped around your throat and squeezing out secrets you’d rather keep in.
“You’re not a different person.”
“Yes I am.”
“Hold out your hand.”
You blink at her in shock and confusion but do as you're told. Natasha moves towards you, strides towards you, and you try not to wince, you try not to let the sound of her footsteps bring you to places you’d rather not be.
Her hand reaches for you, you close your eyes—expecting pain because it’s all you ever knew in your haunting week with Hydra—and when you open them again it’s because Natasha has interlaced your fingers.
Her hand...her hand looks the same against yours. It feels the same. She’s touched you since you’ve been back but you were too busy trying not to move away to remember that this used to be the only thing you wanted back when she was just a crush. To hold her hand...then when she became your girlfriend it was a comfort that you thought you’d always seek.
“Is your favorite color still the same?” Natasha asks, voice strong and almost as intense as her eyes.
“Yes.”
“Is your favorite song the same, is your favorite movie the same, is your—”
“All of those things don’t make me who I am,” you stutter, unable to hold her eyes. Where Natasha is strong you are weak. Her strength is the sun, and yours is just a dying light bulb.
“They’re small but they matter,” Natasha insists, looking at you so softly you wonder what she sees.
“Are you still trying?” She asks quietly, “do you still care too much?”
“Yes.”
“You’re in pain,” Natasha notes, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear and despising the world for the things it’s done to you when you wince. “You’re scared, traumatized, you leave the room when people are being too loud, you constantly look around, you don’t like people being too close,” she stops, tilting her head. “Care to add?”
“I’m...tired. I don’t even want to get up in the morning for fear of what I'll face through the day—just while doing mundane things. I'm so weak it makes me furious.”
Natasha nods, closing her eyes, “you need to run sometimes, you try so hard to look okay around the others sometimes your jaw physically shakes with the effort, you’re hesitant in everything you do now—”
“Okay.” You cut her off, words shaky. “I get it.”
“I love you. Not loved. I love you. I loved you two weeks ago, before all of this, and I love you in this second just the same,” she cups your cheek and you don’t wince. “I hurt for you. I want to know what you’ve been through, I want you to open up to me, but you’re still Y/N, aren’t you? You’re still the woman I fell in love with.”
“Why are you so sure of that?” You ask, eyes watering.
“You fixed my mug,” Natasha says, breathing out a short huff of laughter. “Thank you.”
“You loved it, Nat.”
“You hated it.”
And okay. “I need time,” you whisper, “time to process and then slowly maybe I can…maybe I can heal.”
With all of the certainty in the world Natasha says; “you will”, and you believe her. “And if you need time then you have it.” She moves to step back, to drop her hand, but you don’t let her.
You grasp her hand where it is on your cheek and with your eyes you beg her to stay, and then you do with your voice too; “not from you. Just please don’t ask me questions about what happened yet. Can we just…” you sigh, glancing down. “Can we just exist together?”
Natasha looks at you, really looks at you, and she sees how vulnerable you are in this moment, how strong, She sees it in the way your hand shakes against her, in the way—
“Say something,” you beg, exasperated, “please.”
“I’m sorry,” Natasha says, chuckling at the glare you give her. “I just love you so much sometimes I need a moment,” and then, she says, easily like there is no other option, like she would want nothing else, “Of course i’ll stay.”
And the sorrow wrapped around your throat like a rope only getting tighter, and the trauma burning away at your insides like an imperishable flame, and the anxiety like boulders on your shoulder only keeping you down, it all goes away.
For a moment, you suspect, just like when you were outside in the rain, but the fact that you can feel this way here, with another person in the room this close to you, with nothing there to drown everything out, it gives you hope.
It’s the first time you’ve seen the light in the darkness, but you think that maybe it was always there.
“Thank you, Natasha. For everything.”
She smiles, softly and full of love. “Thank you for everything, too,” and what she’s really saying is; “thank you for giving me you.”

Big sister instincts
Characters: Yue Qingyuan, Yue Huili, some unnamed Qiong Ding peak disciples
Warnings: none
Universe: SVSSS AU (will after this be known as And Then There Were Two)
WC: 805
Tumblr media
Huili fidgets with her sleeves, glancing at her shidi's and shimei's. Just a day earlier, she had already overheard why they got called here, and done her own research. And wow, is she glad she did so.
"Before we begin, I want all of you to know that I'm not mad." Yue Qingyuan speaks up from behind his desk, still seated in front of the documents he'd been looking over when they entered.
It does absolutely nothing to soothe any of the juniors.
"While looking through these documents, I noticed some mistakes that had been made. It's lucky that I caught these, because that means they can still be fixed. But for that, I need to know who was responsible. Would this person care to step forward?"
The juniors fidget, but one in particular catches Huili's eyes. It's who she knows did it. He's even paler than at the beginning, faintly trembling, tears gathering in his eyes, and his look… Huili feels her heart twist painfully as she looks away.
"No? Then-"
"I did it," Huili speaks up, stepping forward with a gentle touch to her shidi's arm. With her step forward, she also moves a bit to the side, to block her shidi from Yue Qingyuan's view. "I'm sorry, a-die. It just took me a bit to recognise the documents."
"Hm." The way Yue Qingyuan studies her makes her want to hide, but she just gives him a nervous smile. "Everyone else, please leave. Huili and I still have some things to talk about."
The shidi she had shielded tugs on her sleeve and she turns her head to give him a soft smile and a wink, nodding at the door. He hesitates before following the others, and Huili faces Yue Qingyuan again, who has now stood up.
"Li-er…" He shakes his head, sighing. "While I think your instincts to protect your juniors are amazing, you don't need to protect them here, where they're safe. They still need to learn that their actions have consequences, and they can't do that if you take the blame every single time."
"A-die, did you see him?" Huili sighs, pulling her necklace out of her robes to play with it. She knows that he knows who did it. He was just hoping her shidi would step up and confess to it himself. "He was terrified. Not just the scared of 'oh no, I messed up'. That was the kind of scared you get when any mistake you make has you beaten up and nearly killed."
"Which is why I clarified that I wasn't mad at the beginning." Yue Qingyuan nods, moving closer to her to brush some hair out of her face. "I don't want my disciples to think they'll be punished in an extreme way just because they made a mistake. They're here to learn, not because they already know how to do everything perfectly."
"And while I know that, they don't." Huili gives him a sad smile. "That is why I take the blame. If he'd stayed here, instead of me, he would've been too scared to listen properly to anything you said, would have messed up even more, and would have gotten more scared."
"And how will he then learn to face the consequences of his actions?" It's a genuine question, she can see it in his face, hear it in his voice. He wants her to come up with a better solution.
"I'll talk to him later. He already knows he doesn't have to be afraid of me, I stood up for him when I didn't have to. He'll see I don't have any bruises, which tells him that you either don't do corporal punishments, or you love your daughter enough to give her a different type of punishment. Then I'll talk to him about the mistakes he made, how he can avoid them, and to come to me or one of the teachers if he has questions about how to do something." Huili easily explains her plan. She'd already wanted to explain it to him, anyway.
"And you think this will work better?" Yue Qingyuan moves back to his desk, picking up the documents.
"Obviously. A-die, you have to remember, you're not only a Peak Lord, you're the Sect Leader. That makes you like, ten times as terrifying. Me? Sure, I'm your kid, but I'm just a disciple, I'm his shijie. I'm a lot less scary to any of them. So if I do this, he's much more likely to actually remember how to avoid or fix mistakes, rather than how terrified he was the entire time."
Yue Qingyuan sighs, but he's smiling. "Very well. Come here, I'll show you the mistakes and give you some tips about how to fix them. Then you can go and talk to your shidi about it."

v3′s art is comically terrible for a professionally distributed game in a series: a compilation
in this not-essay I will list all of the mistakes and problems I have spotted in v3′s art. don’t worry, it’s entirely for fun and I’m doing this on a whim, so please feel free to not take this seriously but also it’s hilarious and embarrassing how ridiculous this is like what happened did they speedrun the whole production or what
see, there are some things you can take as meta like “they made it bad on purpose to allude to the downfall of tv shows that have been on air for much too long” but I have a very strong feeling this is not the case due to the nature of some of these errors
disclaimer, the more I study this art, the more I fear that the artists were underpaid and underslept, so if this is in fact the case, I am so sorry to all of them but also I’m going to make fun of the art anyway
anyway let’s get started!
Tumblr media
if you study this image for longer than 5 seconds, you will see that kaede is the only one fully shaded and keebo is literally just his normal sprite pasted into the image. every other character is just an ordinary ref, hence most of them facing the exact same direction with neutral expressions on their faces. it looks like a bad edit, and is probably one of the worst pieces of art in the game. it kind of gets better from here on, but my roasting will not.
with that out of the way, here’s the problem that officially bothers me the most and clarifies my viewpoint of “this is not meta and an actual lack of company communication”
Tumblr media
this freaking cg, which seems normal at a glance, but some wiseass was like “oh, kaede is a girl, so obviously she’s going to be shorter than the Male Protagonist™” ah, that’s funny. because if you look at the character bios, kaede is, in fact, one inch taller than shuichi and not like 6 inches shorter as she is shown here.
also shuichi’s shoulder is disproportionate and horrendous and he looks vaguely like a jojo character, but I wasn’t even thinking about that until right now.
Tumblr media
thanks guys, 50% of the fandom who has never bothered to check these bios thinks that kaede is like 5′3 (did the developers really put so little thought into her to the point where drawing her correctly in the game didn’t even matter??)
also I would like to point out that, even though this isn’t related to the art itself, yes, a character kaede’s size being only 117 lbs is unfeasible, but this applies to literally every character in danganronpa ever and it’s not new news that it’s unrealistic
update: someone in the tags informed me that in versions of the game that use centimeters, like the japanese version, kaede is actually shorter than shuichi, which just adds another thing to the list of weird decisions the localization team made for no reason. that said, after confirming this, kaede is 167 cm in the original, while shuichi is 171 cm, which are approximately 5′6 and 5′7 respectively, but one inch is still nowhere near as drastic as it is depicted above. (in spite of this, I would rather depict kaede as slightly taller, so I’m probably going to keep doing that.)
the journey continues!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bro if you want kaede to have shoulder length hair then stick to it to begin with
Tumblr media
you can pretend this is at an angle all you want but they definitely committed the shorter kaede sin a second time
wait a goddamn second.
Tumblr media
DO YOU SEE THIS
no………… it wasn’t kaede who shrank. it was shuichi who got taller
Tumblr media
speaking of which, can we talk about how shady the perspective is in this elevator pic? look at shuichi and kokichi in comparison to kaede. kokichi, who is canonically 7 inches (edit: or 5, if you’re loyal to the original) shorter than kaede, looks taller than kaede. he’s growing too. what steroids are these gays taking
Tumblr media
running into the room, electric boogaloo: I don’t think tsumugi is supposed to be the same height as kokichi
Tumblr media
gonta… gonta you’re lookin a bit like a jojo character there
Tumblr media
I love how kaito’s head looks kind of like it was pasted onto his body. why is he the same size as shuichi? shouldn’t he be high school bully size or something? his torso is teensy
Tumblr media
ah yes, white angie.
Tumblr media
I love this cg but why is shuichi’s right hand so much bigger than his left hand
Tumblr media
I also love how this cg looks like they literally took pictures of trees and pasted them into the background, especially on the left. the shadows are so weird, especially closer to the ceiling, it’s difficult for me to believe they didn’t do exactly that.
Tumblr media
return of Enlarged shuichi
Tumblr media
puberty update: kokichi is now taller than shuichi in spite of shuichi never missing leg day. what crimes will he commit
Tumblr media
I have to mention it, guys. this has to be one of the worst danganronpa cgs. kokichi’s facial proportions look atrocious. look at the way his face sticks out like his jaw is in the wrong place. his scarf is a pasted texture. that’s it. this moment was so iconic but the cg just looks so… so… off. like something is terribly wrong, but you can’t put your finger on it.
you know what? let’s get into that ‘pasted texture’ thing.
Tumblr media
let’s imagine you’re an artist working on a professional game. you’re assigned to draw cgs of kokichi ouma, who has a checkered scarf from hell. sure, it will be terrible to draw, but you only have to draw it once at a time! plus, perspective is pretty important, right? can you be bothered? nah, actually. let’s just copy paste a checkered pattern into the cg, because I’m sure nobody will notice. it’ll blend right in with the other cgs that someone actually put effort into drawing his scarf in, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
no. the answer is no and I very much noticed. this genuinely looks terrible and I would understand taking a shortcut like that in fanart or even an indie game but this is a full price pc and console distributed game
(an addition: look at kokichi’s TINY HANDS in that last one)
Tumblr media
meanwhile, they straight up forgot to color in kokichi’s scarf in this cg.
Tumblr media
dude. I forgot about whatever the hell this cg was. anyway look at keebo please just look at him
Tumblr media
lovin kaito’s baby arms
real talk, maybe you could argue that he’s missing muscle because he’s deathly sick, but most of his cgs don’t line up with this, and his arms just look disproportionate to his torso size (granted this is a consistent problem across all danganronpa games and a lot of characters have this weird problem, like hajime, but also kaito is bigger than hajime so I kind of have higher expectations of him) maybe it’s his stupid goatee and the way he reminds me of yasuhiro?? it creates this illusion that he’s older than he is and so I keep expecting him to look more like an adult
oh, also rantaro is missing some of his accessories in that video he made–you know the one–but I don’t wanna go back and screenshot it
also you may have noticed that I’m skipping all of the monokub cgs because I literally do not care about them and I’m not even bothering to check and see if they have artistic mistakes in them
Tumblr media
JIMMY NEUTRON???
Tumblr media
hey um uh kaito you seem to be missing your neck
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hey guys do you like my pregame fanart
so, that done, the sprites are also pretty terrible at times. they’re not as interesting to go through, however, and downloading the full sprite sets for every character and studying every single one of them will drive me insane, so I’ll just sum some of the ones I noticed up. I made things for kaede and shuichi before deciding I wasn’t going to get into it, so here are these.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that said, other mistakes include kokichi missing his purple highlights in all of the sprites encompassing a specific pose, stray pixels all over the place on everyone, and everyone also has heavily inconsistent shading, but literally all I think about is how pregame shuichi is unshaded and two of kaede’s pregame sprites have glaring outfit change mistakes in them
anyway, thank you for taking the time to read my ridiculous ramble. in all seriousness, there’s this looming presence of some lack of communication in the development team, like with all the art and design inconsistencies, pieces and sprites that look rushed, stray pixels, and missing basic proportional stuff. these are the kinds of things that you supposedly have to pretty much have in the bag in order to get jobs in professional businesses, so it’s really weird to me that this game suffers from so many of these problems. it’s like they tried to make the art so much more crisp than the other games, but it fell on its face as they realized it was going to take longer to draw everything and they started to rush. it’s weird, because the coloring itself looks normal–it’s just sloppily drawn, and the proportions are a mess once put into the context of perspective. many of the cgs look like they were drawn by different people, and I’m still not over the fact that half of kokichi’s cgs have his scarf pasted in as a texture.
the moral of the story is that if you’re selling a game at full price that also happens to be in a series that has had 3 very good games in it already the stakes should probably be higher than this. v3 has been out for more than 3 years and it’s still $40 (did it cost more than that before? I sure hope not), and the overarching quality of the game is just not as high as the other games. I’m not saying that the other games don’t have any problems with their art at all, they’re just not as glaringly obvious and every artistic choice in those games feels intentional.
regardless, I had a blast roasting the art at 2am, so maybe you got a kick out of all this chaos.

Keith from Voltron?....Cuz that’s what I’m doing for my mental health....And I’m going to hope and pray that’s what you wanted....cuz im doing it. Prepare your diddly hole....that sounded wrong. Hope you like it!
BTW You caught me on an off day, but I didn’t wanna leave you hanging.
CHECKOUT MY MASTERLIST HERE!
Leggo!
...
You were confused as to why everyone had insisted you go check up on Keith. Then again the last thing you said to him before he locked himself in his room for 3 days was.
“Wow, it’s so hot in here. I need to change out of these clothes.”
It was a throwaway comment that usually earned you a laugh or two from him. Only this time, it ended with him taking one look at you, and zooming off. Three whole days since then and it felt like you were the only one who wasn’t aware of what was going through his head.
So here you were, standing outside his door. You hesitated for a while, frozen in place.
“He’s your friend.” you declared. “You can do this!” you nodded with determination. You slowly raised your hand and knocked.
“Fuck!” you heard on the other side. “W-Who’s there!”
“It’s me?” you answered, slowly becoming unsure. “Is it a bad time?”
“Y/N!” he grunted. “What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to check on you! P-please let me in.” you sighed.
“Y/N! It isn’t safe for you to be here!” he sounded in pain.
“Keith! It’s either you let me in or I melt the door down!” you warned. "I have a lighter on me, don’t test whether or not I’m serious.”
Suddenly the door slid open. Without another thought you walked in. His room looked normal. “Keith?”
Just as you got in, the door slammed shut, making you jump. A shirtless Keith stumbled out of the bathroom. His face was completely red and he was sweating. Without a pause, you rushed over to him.
“Y/N!” Keith shuddered. “P-please don’t-”
“Keith!” you cut him off. “You’re burning up!” you put a hand on his forehead. For some reason, he leaned into your touch. He shuddered, his eyes glazing over slowly. This was a side of his you’ve never seen before.
It wasn’t long bore you managed to connect the dots. You couldn’t stop the blush from rising onto your face. “Oh.” was all you could say.
“Y/N...” he dropped to his knees. “I’m so sorry.” he whimpered. “It’s...t-too much.” he moaned. “I didn’t want to scare you.”
He rested his head against your stomach. “I want you so bad.” he cried. Like literally cried. “I c-can’t control it.” he whimpered.
“Keith? Why didn’t you tell me? I could’ve helped you, I could’ve-.”
“The only reason I didn’t tell you was because in order to calm it down...I’d have to...have my way with the object of my aggression.” you could tell he was very ashamed. It then dawned on you what he meant when he said he wanted you.
“And...that’s me?” you clarified, voice shaking.
He buried his face into your stomach, tightening his grip around you. “Yes...”
“...Then do it.” you found yourself saying. This caused him to look up in surprise.
“You just made a big mistake, Y/N.” he glowered. A sadistic smile arose on his face. “You just opened yourself up to me.” he scrambled to his feet. Before you knew it, you felt your back hit the door. “Which means I can do whatever I want to you now.”
Keith grabbed a handful of your hair in his fist and bought your lips to his. You winced in pain, feeling him tighten his grip, as if he was scared to let you go. He must have detected this because he moved his hand to the side of your neck.
Your body was flush against the wall and he was pressed against you, covering your body like a blanket. He yanked himself away from you and hoisted you up.
Keith carried you to his bed and practically threw you on the plush surface. In that instant, the tables were flipped. Instead of looking up at you through hooded eyes with a shameful gaze, it was you who was now looking up at him.  Keith stared down at you with a glare. You probably looked ridiculous, but you didn’t care.
“How do you want me?” you found yourself asking.
“Fuck.” he whimpered. Just hearing you say that sent him crazy. He could smell sex coming off you, and he wanted to get his hands on you. His mouth, his dick, whatever he could touch you with. He could barely gather his thoughts. Every corner of his mind was occupied by visions of you, imagines, of you, thoughts of you. “Clothes...off...now.”
He didn’t wait for you, instead he ripped your shirt down the back, tearing it to shreds. He gently pushed on your chest, sending you down. Your back in the bed and you didn’t dare try and sit up.
“Is this a good time to mention I went commando today?” you asked aloud. Keith stopped everything he was doing and looked at you. He was expressionless. He didn’t say a word.
“...You’re not wearing any underwear?” he glowered.
“No?” you trailed off. “I didn’t do my laundry.” you admitted.
The remained of your shirt fell in a pool around you. You and Keith had a stare-down, that glossy look returning to his eyes. He hooked his fingers around the hem of your pants and yanked them down. As expected, you were completely exposed to him. No undergarment in sight. Your smell filled his nostrils.
He instantly began fumbling with his pants, unable to control himself anymore. He could see that you were already excited down there and he was growing inpatient.
He grabbed hold of your thighs and thrust himself into your tightness, earning a surprised moan from you. You felt better than he thought you would. You fit him perfectly, like a sheath built for a special type of sword.
“Fu-...Ungh...-” He could barely make words as he pumped into your wetness. “Y/N.” he grunted. “You’re mine.” he growled. “Mine. If anyone else touches you after today, they’ll have me to answer to.” he croaked.
You were at a point where you couldn’t make any words, your body had reacted to him in a way where you felt like a slave to his touch. Was is pheromones? It was probably pheromones...you’d have to ask later.
“I wanna- I wanna kiss you.” Keith fought to speak as he slammed his hands on either side of your head. As promised, he lazily crashed his mouth over yours. His kiss was sloppy and lazily, his lips leaving a thin line of drool as he kissed down your neck.
He rolled his hips against yours, groaning at each thrust. At this rate, he wouldn’t be able to last long. That didn’t stop him from speeding up.
“Y/N.” he moaned again. With each sloppy thrust, his name left your lips, sounding more and more guttural before he spilled into you. He yanked his length out of your hole, splattering the entire front of your body in his cum.
You looked like a pretty sight. You were officially marked by him. When you looked up, that hungry gaze was still strewn across his face. You noticed his eyes were still focused on your heat. His tongue darted out to lick his lips.
He met your eyes for a split second before giving you a lewd smirk. He winked at you before scooting back to lay on his stomach.
“K-keith. We just fin-ISHED.” you tried to say. Keith had attached his mouth to your sensitive bundle of nerves.
“I know.” he stopped to speak for a bit. “I didn’t feel you cum for me though.”
“You can tell?!” you look down surprised. No, you didn’t fake it...but you didn’t think he would go this mile.
“Of course I can fucking tell...you’re mine remember?” he giggled before lashing his mouth against you again. You could feel tears of pleasure welling up at the corners of your eyes. Your fists clenched the sheets under you.  It was like he had full control of you. You felt his fingers pump into you again, fucking his cum back into you. (I’m such a thot omg)
Your orgasm came like an avalanche. A mixture of loud cries and moans ripped through the air. Surely anyone who had been around could hear.
You were just worried about what would happen tomorrow.
...
“NOT A WORD!” you threateningly held up a butter knife to Lance not even three hours later.
“Just saying...I was on the other side of the-”
“SHUT UP!” you cut him off.
“...Was he good though?”
“I said shut up!” you groaned, feeling your face heat up in embarrassment.
“I’m just saying...those hickeys aren’t gonna heal for a while.” he shrugged, laughing out loud as he walked away.
“Fuck me!” you seethed, trailing your fingers over your aching skin.
“What was that?” Keith seemingly appeared out of nowhere. You dropped the butter knife, feeling his broad chest up against your back. “Did you say to-”
“In the kitchen though?!” you squeaked. “Bad dog! Very bad!” you whimpered, melting into his touch anyways.
“Don’t worry, it only lasts a week.” he giggled in your ear.
A week...lord help you.
“Maybe longer if I like you enough.”
....Fuck

Enough for me
Series masterlist
Word count: 1796
Genre: Fluff
Pairing: Natasha x gn!reader
Warnings: None (lmk if I need to add any)
Summary: You decide to tell Natasha how serious you are about your relationship and things don’t go exactly as you hoped but it’s still good.
A/n: Thank you to the multiple people who wanted another part in the mini flustered series that I’ve totally made up as I went along. Also I want to clarify that although this could be read as a part four to flustered it honestly isn’t super related so you can definitely read it seperately and it wouldn’t matter to the plot bc there is no plot besides soft nat. Also I don’t know if this one is any good because I didn’t edit as usual but hopefully you all enjoy!
Tumblr media
You admire your work as you gaze out over the table you had just finished setting up. It had taken some work dragging a table all the way up to the roof and then having to make multiple trips to bring up all the plates, glasses, cutlery and food, not to mention the other things like candles you had set up. The effort was totally worth it in your opinion though because anything for Natasha was worth it.
You’ve spent a lot of time together since your first date and have gone on a couple more but so far all of your dates have been pretty casual and nobody on the team knows about you so you want to do something special to prove that you’re serious about her. Although looking up at the sky you realize you probably should have chosen another night and you cross your fingers that it doesn’t start to rain until after you’re done.
Your cell phone ringing interrupts you. “Tasha?” You answer it, looking at the caller id as you pick it up.
“Hi Y/n.” She responds. “So why am I supposed to call you?”
“What do you mean?” You ask, confused.
“You told me to call you at seven so I’m calling.” She says and you slap your hand up to your face because you can’t believe you forget that part of your plan.
“Right sorry, I forgot.” You tell her. “Anyways I need you to put on something nice and come up to the roof.”
“Mysterious, I like it.” She says which makes you smile. “I’ll be up there in five minutes.”
“Okay, see you then!” You respond before hanging up and panicking. You didn’t expect her to be so quick and five minutes really isn’t a lot of time. You still have approximately one hundred candles to light and you’re not sure that you can get it done on time.
You run around, trying to be careful and not burn yourself, and start to light all the candles that were all over the ground surrounding the table and the pathway to the door. Just as you’re finishing lighting the last one and standing up the door to the roof opens and Natasha steps out. She’s gorgeous as always but you especially love this dress on her. It’s black like most things she wears and is tight fitting at the top but slowly gets looser until it flows around her legs. You love it because you can tell she’s dressing to look beautiful and not sexy which she only ever does if she’s letting her guard down (so not very often). You are well aware that your jaw is open and you’re blatantly staring but luckily she’s busy looking around at your setup so you have time to collect yourself.
“Do you like it?” You ask her.
“It’s beautiful.” She breaths in response.
“Not as beautiful as you.” You reply and it’s so cheesy that you nearly regret saying that but there’s a light blush on her face and she’s smiling so you smile back and take a seat at the table, gesturing for her to sit with you.
“So what’s on the menu?” She asks lightly as she sits, still smiling.
“Just some paninis and lentil soup, hopefully it’s still warm.” You tell her.
“Well I’m sure it will be good either way.” She responds before taking a bite and moaning in delight. “It is amazing, thank you.”
“It’s my pleasure.” You say. “Now how about you tell me about your day?”
You listen attentively as she complains about paperwork and schedules and as she practically glows as she tells you about a new move she had used to take down Steve in training today. You love listening to her, it makes you happy that she likes talking about mediocre things with you and there’s a level of domesticity to it that makes your heart feel full. You just want to know everything about her, no matter how boring people deem it to be because it’s important to her and therefore it matters a lot to you.
You talk to her for hours comfortably as she continues to share but also asks you questions. There is never a lull in the conversation and you could listen to her voice forever. Eventually though, long after you both finish eating, the conversation dwindles to a comfortable silence. At least for her. You’re inwardly freaking out because you want to tell her exactly how much she means to you and although you think she’ll react well it’s not a guarantee.
“What are you thinking about?” She asks, always observant.
You gulp nervously but answer truthfully. “I’m thinking about how I am more serious about you than I’ve ever been about anyone before, even if it’s only been a few weeks.”
“I’m more serious about you than anyone too.” She replies. “But I think you already knew that.”
“I hoped so.” You tell her, continuing on your path since so far she is reacting well. “I was-I was thinking that maybe we could tell the others about us now, or at least stop hiding it and wait until they find out.”
“But I thought you were fine with it just being for us for now?” She asks, a frown tugging at your lips. Your heart sinks at her expression-you never meant to push boundaries that she wasn’t comfortable with yet.
“And I’m still fine with that.” You reassure her quickly. “I just thought it might be nice to tell the others but it’s totally cool if you aren’t okay with it.”
She stands up and starts to pace a little. “I don’t know what I want.”
“Hey, hey.” You stand up too and grab her gently by the arm so she stops and faces you. “It’s okay, we don’t have to do it, I just thought it would be nice so everyone knows how much I love you.”
Instead of calming her down your words only seem to make her more anxious. “You what? You-you love me?” She stutters out.
“Shit I am so sorry Natasha I promised not to rush you.” You immediately apologize, hoping that you didn’t mess things up to badly.
She picks her way through the candles carefully and sits down on the edge of the roof, her feet dangling over. You follow, sitting beside her, making sure you don’t accidentally do anything to further surprise her. She sits quietly, obviously deep in thought and you think as well. You know, or at least you hope, that Natasha won’t break up with you already because of this. You just wanted to give her a special night and the first part of it went great but you just had to push too far. You had promised that she would dictate the terms of the relationship when you had first asked her out but of course you weren’t able to follow through. You just wish that you could hear her thoughts so you could try to fix your mistakes. She stays silent and only speaks up after a few more agonizing minutes.
“I’m sorry-” She starts and you interrupt.
“It’s okay if you’re breaking up with me.” You say and she watches you with a strange look on her face.
“You just told me you love me-I’m not breaking up with you.” She tells you and you sigh in relief. “But I can’t say it back, not yet anyways.”
“That’s completely okay.” You reassure her, slightly disappointed but understanding and just happy she wasn’t breaking up with you.
“I want to but I can’t.” She explains, her face visibly upset, seeing a hint of your disappointment. “It just doesn’t work, I can’t say it, I’m sorry. But if you want to we can tell the team about us.” She turns away when she’s done, biting her lip, afraid of your reaction.
“Tasha. Tasha.” You say, waiting until she turns back to face you to continue. “We won’t do it unless you’re ready and it’s okay that you aren’t. I’m not going to take back my words, I do love you and being able to tell you that and be here with you is enough for me, you don’t need to do anything.”
She pauses a moment and you can’t read her expression so you start to get nervous. Maybe you should have taken back the ‘I love you’ part of your mini speech. Before you can overthink too much she throws herself at your side, wrapping her arms around your shoulders and resting her in the crook of your neck.
“Thank you.” She mumbles against your skin. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, I’m happy with this because having you is enough for me because I love you.” You tell her, awkwardly un-wedging your arm from between your side and her body and wrapping it around her, rubbing her back in mindless patterns.
She shivers slightly, not from the cold. “Can you say that again?”
“What, I love you?” You ask, confused.
“Yeah.” She says, almost shyly, nodding her head against your neck.
“I love you.” You tell her, kissing the side of her head at an awkward angle. “I love you. I love you so much Tasha.”
You repeat it over and over for a few minutes, feeling as though your heart is going to burst. You no longer care that she can’t say it back because she has her reasons but she wants you to say it and she’s cuddling with you and you never want to let her go because this moment is so perfect.
Unfortunately the weather has other plans and just as your words start to die out the sky open, a few small drops then a complete downpour. The soft glow that once covered the roof from the candles disappears as they go out, releasing smoke. You know you have to clean things up but you figure it can wait until morning, once things are drier, so you take Natasha’s hand and pull her up. She starts to run towards the door, helping you so you don’t step on the candles, giggling the whole way. Technically things hadn’t gone to plan, her not wanting to tell the team or say she loved you and it raining at the end, but those things don’t seem to matter when you see her bright smile, her hair plastered to her face but somehow looking as beautiful as ever. And it matters even less when she pulls you inside and immediately presses you to the door, kissing you hard. You’re more than happy to fulfill her request when she pulls away, asking for you to say it again. Anything to keep her happy and make her feel loved.

Perfect. Anyways, enjoy!
Masterlist
•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
"Good morning, everyone!"
You raise your head abruptly, snapped out of your thoughts. Which, by the way, were all directed to the man who was walking down to his desk with a sweet yet confident smile on his face.
"You all are looking so excited with Monday" he says playfully and the class laughs. "Hope I'm worth your tired time here this morning".
You straighten your back, picking pen and book from your backpack as Professor Holland organizes his materials on the wood desk.
You weren't a square at classes or anything like that. But surely you were never late for English classes, neither badly dressed up. You always made sure to pick your best outfit, not leaving out the professional look, all to impress your favorite professor.
Not that you were silly enough to believe something would come out from that strictly professional relationship, but it was inevitable for you wanting to feel pretty around him, as your imagination flew wild whenever he stepped in the classroom.
Professor Holland was really something else. He wasn't only a handsome man, with a noticeable muscular body hidden behind the much formal clothes he wore. He wasn't only the youngest professor in that department. He was intelligent, had a good sense of humor and was incredibly polite.
You could tell by the way girls always seemed to be extra interested on this class that you weren't the only one in the room to feel attracted to your professor.
You always made sure to ne early so you could take a seat in the front row, not to claim for his attention, but to be able to pain attention to the lecture and also get the opportunity to have a good look at him once in a while, mostly when he was distracted, sitting at his desk and taking notes on the classes' essays.
By the end of the lesson, he dismissed the students and you started to pack your things, barely motivated to your next classes. Now that you wouldn't have your professor's look to distract you a bit, it really felt like fucking Monday.
There were only around four students left in the room, and you, who was caring your notebook and pencil on your hands, walking directly to Professor Holland's desk clarify his small notes he took on your essay from last week.
Three girls were standing around his desk, smiling widely as he explained something that were on the board.
"But, Professor Holland..." one of the girls asked the same stupid question again, letting his name roll along her tongue, as she was savoring it. You roll your eyes, flicking your feet as you waited impatiently for your chance to have a time with him.
Professor Holland sighed and gently tried to reassure the group of girls that they could have the assistant to solve their other questions, as he was running out of time and there was another person he had to assist.
Finally, the girls gave in and passed through you, taking the time to send you a look. You just shrugged it off and walked to the Professor's desk.
"Miss. Y/l/n" he greets your, a small smile forming of his lips. Your stomach felt like flipping inside of you and you tried to keep your composure as you reached his desk. "Any questions left?"
"Actually, Professor..." you handed him the paper, a bit ashamed of he remembering it was yours and connecting the words you wrote down with your face. It was so much easier when you didn't see your professor reading your text. "I marked some of the notes you wrote and didn't understand, if you could help me".
He looked over the text, a wrinkle of concentration between his brows, and just when he lifted his gaze back to you, you felt your heart fastening.
"Of course", he gives you a tightlipped smile, grabbing a pen to point some of the corrections to you. "See, there weren't any big mistake on this, you could say I'm just a perfectionist. Actually, this was one of the best essays from the class".
Your eyes light up immediately, feeling too enthusiastic for the compliment. "Thank you, Sir. It means a lot".
Professor Holland nodded once, averting his eyes from you for a moment, his face taking on a more stern look. Then he started to explain his notes and you felt more relaxed as you notice it wasn't really that big of mistakes. You listened with full attention and commented on what you felt like could improve on your writing.
"I feel like if you take your time to rewrite it and survey some of your constructions, this text will be more than excellent" he pointed, handing you the paper again, a proud smile on his lips. Then, he chuckled a bit, playfully, "Obviously, the first score is the one that will be considered for your grade, so it's up to you. But I think it'll be a great work".
You smile happily. "Sure, I'll do it", you take the paper back again and put it inside your folder. Looking at the wall clock, you just notice it's too long past the break between classes. "Shit, I didn't realize it was past your lessons' time already. I'm sorry, I should be going-"
"It's alright, Miss. Y/l/n". He sends you a reassurance smile, putting a hand over yours for a brief moment, but that didn't make it go under your notice. "I'm always satisfied to waste a little more time on my most dedicated students, and even more glad that your questions wasn't about lessons itself", he grimaces and you could tell what he was referring too. "Not in my best behavior saying it out loud, but I was starting to think I wasn't doing a great explanation".
You laugh a bit and shake your head. "Oh, you shouldn't worry about it. I'm pretty sure you're the best professor from this department. Plus, those girls weren't seriously having a problem with the subject" you roll your eyes softly, still smiling, but not quite realising what you had just said.
Professor Holland scowls, face confused as he catches your last sentence. "What do you mean?"
You froze, eyes widening as you gulp. "I-I mean- like, you were explaining it for the fourth time already... it wasn't possible that they didn't get it. I think they were more interested on... you know?".
He narrow his eyes, quirked his brow questioning, expecting you to explain yourself. A shiver pass through your body, embarrassment running right to your blushing cheeks as you struggle to find a proper answer.
"I mean, I think they were interested on... you". You almost cough, looking for somewhere else to stare in the room, avoiding your Professor's concentrated eyes. But as silent is completely made, you have to make sure he isn't mad at your stupid comment. Averting your eyes back at him, you are surprised to be met with his brown ones filled with what seemed amusement.
He was supporting his chin on his fist, a curious look covering his soft feature, hiding a smile behind the thumb pressed against his lips.
"Why would you think that?" He asked in the same amused tone and you never felt more stupid.
You wanted to slap your forehead and hide your entire self on the closest bathroom, but Professor Holland had those glistening brown soft eyes on you, nothing but a relaxed face put in your display, his sultry voice - which you were pretty sure wouldn't sound like this on purpose - incentivanting you to continue.
You cleared your throat and collected your devilish thoughts to think straight.
"I guess most of the girls here think you're, y'know, a handsome man" you shrugged, wanting so much sound casual, as that wasn't your personal opinion.
Mr. Holland raised his eyebrows, you couldn't tell if it was surprise for your answer or for your courage on saying that out loud. Maybe both.
"Did you hear that?", he questioned, tilting his head a little to the side. "From those girls?"
He got you. You knew that. He knew you were just making assumptions, which meant that could only be your own opinion expressed on the vision you had over other students.
"No", you answered under your breath, gulping. "It's just a guess".
Silent was made and you felt terrified. You truly started to think that Mr. Holland was planning the most tough comments on your behavior, that he would try to show you how unprofessional and not ethic at all was your opinion about him, that he was your professor and you were his student, nothing beyond that. But then he crossed his arms over his chest, leaning back in his chair as his eyes concentrated on you.
He looked like someone who was pondering something, but your nervousness calmed down a little bit at the way he had his gaze over you. Though his eyes were dark, that couldn't be so bad, if he didn't have a mad expression on.
"Is it what you think?" He tried again, the corner of his mouth threatening to quirk. "Do you think I'm a handsome man?"
You close your eyes briefly, feeling past ashamed of it. "I'm sorry, it's pathetic, I didn't mean to-"
"It's okay, Miss. Y/l/n" he chuckles softly. "Don't make a big deal out of it. After all, I'm not much older than you, am I? Shouldn't be so wrong to have an opinion about my looking".
He was taking it so calmly that you couldn't believe. Maybe he was right, maybe it wasn't a big deal. Or maybe he was so used to having girls head over heels for him that it didn't get on his nerves anymore.
You sigh and decide to agree better than discuss anything and make more shame on yourself. "Anyways, I just wanted you to know that-"
"Mr. Holland?"
A voice interrupt him, and you turn your head abruptly to see another professor standing in the door frame, a case on his hand, eyes going between both of you. "Sorry for interrupting, but I'm giving my next lesson here. Is it taking too long, or...?"
"Oh, no", Mr. Holland smiled fondly and stood up, gathering his things from the desk. "Pardon me, didn't realize it was so late. Miss y/l/n, do you have any more questions left?"
You narrow your eyes at him, a bit taken aback as you knew you weren't making any questions seconds prior. He was lying, lying about the reason why the two of you were stuck in his classroom for so long. So you just nodded back and corrected your face.
"No, I'm fine, Sir. Thanks for your time" you smiled a little before turning in your heels.
The other man entered the class and started to put his things above the table, with Mr. Holland beside him. You were about to step out of the room when you hear your professor talking to you.
"Oh, and Miss. Y/l/n?" You turned your head to look at him again. He smiled. "It'd be lovely if you rewrite that essay. You can pass by my office later to show me your corrections, if you want to".
You blink, too surprised to answer right away. With a pounding heart on your chest, you nod, wishing nothing but to work on that useless essay as soon as possible.
____________
The day passes quickly, your mind too occupied with your essay. Missing some of your later classes, you saved time to stay until 6pm in the library, trying to come out with the of your writing whilst correcting the mistakes Mr. Holland pointed for you.
Certainly, that was the most dedicated you've ever been for a work.
But you couldn't resist the anxiety running through your body as you thought about walking down that aisle in the Professor Holland's office direction.
Again, you weren't expecting anything beyond him reading your text again, but the thought of seeing him alone one time was exciting itself.
You finish your work and put the paper inside a case, gathering everything together and walking straight to the aisle of English department.
It was empty and quiet, not a sight of any students neither professors around, as it was past the last lectures for the day.
Taking a few good breathes, you smooth your hand down your skirt before knocking softly on Professor Holland office's door.
"Come in!"
You turn the handle and open the door, closing it behind you. Mr. Holland looked tired, eyes heavy under his glasses. He also seemed busy, reading a book and taking his notes.
"Oh, Miss Y/l/n", he smiles warmly when his eyes lift to your face, waving a hand for you to take a seat in front of his desk. "Glad to see you. I suppose you made the corrections on your essay?"
You smile and nod, sitting down before reaching your paper in your backpack. "I added some other points I thought about when reading again", you hand him your essay and he takes it, fingers touching yours briefly, but enough to send a shiver down your spine.
"Great" he looked over the paper, reading more cautiously at some point in the middle, where the biggest changes were made. He seemed impressed with your work and you couldn't help but feel the euphoria by each time the curve of his lips seemed to form a smile.
You looked over his office. It was small, but enough for one person only. There was a shelf full of books and a pretty tiny table across the room, cups, water and what you assumed to be tea inside a bottle on top of that.
"It's really cozy here" you speak out loud, more to yourself, wandering and picturing Mr. Holland sitting beside his little table and taking his tea while reading one of the shelf's book.
He smiles, lifting his glance from the paper to your face, which was still looking around. "You like it?"
You blink a few times before answering, a bit embarrassed that he caught your vague comment. "Yeah". His face held nothing but a contemplating look. "It must feel really good to have an office all to yourself".
Mr. Holland laughs quietly. "I don't spend too much time here to appreciate that much, actually", he admits. "Most of my time in the building is spent in classrooms and I pretty much like taking my work home, so... But, yes, it's good".
"I'd like it. Y'know, having somewhere you can take a time off and even have lunch when everywhere else is so full of people". You make your point, shrugging.
Something crosses Mr. Holland's face, but he quickly make it disappear.
"Well", he says, looking at your essay again after clearing his throat. "I like it very much. Not a single mistake this time. I can say properly now that this is the best essay I received for last week's work".
You smile widely. "Thank you, Mr. Holland".
He look up at your again, a small and hesitating smile on his lips. "You can call me Tom", when you open your mouth and say anything, he continues, "If you want. Mr. Holland just makes me feel so old".
You laugh at his grimace. "Oh, you're nothing near old, no worry on that".
Tom smiles more freely, if not smugly, and you feel your cheeks darkening in pink.
"Yeah, you think I'm... a handsome man, right?" He teases you and for a moment, it's not like your formal and professional professor is the one in the room anymore. You smiles sheepishly, bitting your lips to try to contain it.
"I'm sorry for that again", you shake your head, but Tom whines.
"If you don't stop with your apologies, I'm going to give you another essay to write". He says playfully. "I'm just joking, y/n".
Hearing your first name coming out of his mouth warms your heart and you feel like exploding in excitement.
"Wouldn't be such a punishment, I think" you admit, looking to your hands.
Tom narrows his eyes, corner of his mouth raising in a smile again. "And why is that?"
You bite your lower lips, pressing your fingers in the palm of your hand nervously as you think about what you're saying next, "Well, if it meant I'd have to come here to show you, I'd gladly write one".
Tom takes your answer slowly, smile growing on his face and he chuckles softly. "Really?"
"Yeah", you nod.
Tom stares at you for the following seconds and it's just as when you glance at the clock in his desk that yiu realize you've spent too much time inside his office.
"I think I gotta go now", you say, standing up and picking your backpack and essay. It wouldn't look good a student getting out of a professor's office so late in the night.
Tom smiled sadly and got up too, watching as you made your way to the door. But before you could open it, you remembered you last talk in the classroom.
"Tom?" You tested the name on your lips, savoring the liberty he had just given to you. He looked at you, waiting. "What was it you were going to say before that professor entered the classroom?"
He took a few seconds thinking and then a trace of a small smile came to his features.
"I was just going to say that I appreciate your compliment" he licks his lips and you smile. "Also, that you should know I think you're pretty gorgeous too".

Beautifully Beastly
Reader X Draco
Summary: It’s over ten years since the Battle of Hogwarts, and you stumble upon an old classmate and his son. Soon you find yourself in a large house, tutoring a young protege, and acquiring feelings for his father...?
A/n: Okay, so this is the cutest thing in the world. I changed cannon of course, but isn’t that the point of fanfiction? Anyway, I know I tortured you guys with the last chapter of my Hufflepuff!Reader series, so here’s a cute one shot with a brooding older Draco and a lively Scorpius who just wants to learn everything. I love you guys so so much, let me know what you think!!
Tumblr media
“Draco? Draco Malfoy?” I asked, pausing at the park bench.
The same white blond hair was not longer and tied back at the nape of his neck. I would have mistaken him as Lucius if I didn’t linger. He had grown into his features, his eyes still the same piercing blue. It had to have been maybe ten years since I had seen Draco last. They were memories I didn’t dwell on often.
“Y/n,” Recognition flirted across his face. “What... what are you doing here?”
“It’s a park?” A smile found its way to my lips. “I come here to clear my head,”
He nodded, as if in understanding.
“So, what are you doing here?” I mused.
“I’m here with my son,”
“Son?” I was surprised. “I didn’t know you had a kid,” my eyes scanned the park and narrowed in on a little boy with white blond hair. “Should have known though,” I smiled. “His mother?” I sat on the opposite side of the bench.
“Died when he was seven months,” His eyes stayed on his son’s playful form in the distance.
“Sorry,” I offered, wrapped my arms around my midriff.
“It’s fine,” His lips pressed into a tight line, letting me know that it was not fine.
“I hear you’re a Head Auror,” I tried to keep pleasant conversation. “Brought in a lot of his followers,”
He didn’t comment. His jaw clenched and he kept a cool mask on his features. He clenched his left fist and drew it to himself almost defensively. I heard a lot of other things about Draco as well over the years. It was hard to escape the politics and news of the Wizarding World, but I knew Draco better than a news article, even if I hadn’t seen him in a decade—which spoke to how much the papers knew.
“Where did you end up?” He asked finally.
“Um, well, I’m a writer. Historian.” I clarified. “It’s been a lot of work lately trying to get everything written correctly. So many biased petty people wanting to get their two cents in,” I scoffed, my thoughts drawing to Skeeter, who still wouldn’t retire.
“Historian?” He mused. “So, you’re well versed in a lot of topics then?”
“I guess, yeah. McGonagall sent me a letter not too long ago asking me to come and teach. I... I couldn’t bear to think going back...” I looked down at my hands. “That place still haunts me.”
“Are you for hire though?”
That caught my attention.
“Hire?” I pressed, my brows quirking together.
“Private tutor, for Scorpius.” Draco nodded towards his son. “I’ve been looking for someone to come and start his schooling.”
“You want me to tutor your son?” I asked, quite shocked.
“You’d have lodging at the Manor, and all the books and supplies you needed, as well as a salary,”
I gaped at him. “Okay...?” I finally got out.
It took about a week, but soon I was moved into the Manor with access to the library wing, and the rest of the house as I pleased. The house elves had orders to answer to me as if I was there mistress—even though I hated the notion and protested.
Scorpius was hesitant around me for a few days, until he caught me practicing spells. He was delighted to see even a bit of magic, and I wondered if Draco ever did magic in front of his song. Draco gave me a vague outline of what he wanted me to cover with Scorpius, leaving a lot of it up to me. Which was for better or worse, the best mistake he could have made.
Draco seemed to realize that when he came home one evening and Scorpius and I were in the front lawn, covered in bowtruckles. The little boy was laughing joyously, playing with the small plant creatures. Draco started to yell, but seeing his son laugh, he paused and gave me a cold look before heading inside. I rolled my eyes at him and brought Scorpius inside to wash up for dinner.
“If you have something to say to me,” I baited, leaning against his study door jam.
“No,” He said curtly, his back to me as he leaned against his desk. “He should be well versed in herbology,”
I made an exasperated gesture and let it drop.
A few months passed, and I spent the days teaching Scorpius anything and everything. I had the weekends off, but still didn’t mind taking the young Malfoy to the park or lake or wherever else he wanted to go. Sometimes Draco accompanied us, sometimes he’d be gone weeks on end on a case. In those long periods of time I did my best to keep Scorpius happy. I taught him how to bake cookies and other sweets. I read to him bedtime stories, both muggle and wizarding—after getting a pinky promise from Scorpius that he wouldn’t tell his father.
There were some nights that Draco and I spent together, not intentionally. But he’d be in the library, reading from a pile of large old books, and I’d flit around, finding the material I wanted. Sometimes I’d ask him for a certain book, and he’d raise the one in his hands. It was always left on my desk in the morning.
A few nights I’d find him asleep in his large chair, the book that was in his lap fallen onto the floor. I’d pick up the book and drape an afghan around his shoulders. Neither of us mentioned it.
We shared tea and coffee in the early mornings before he was off to work and I had been up all night reading, our internal clocks aligning for no more than a quarter hour.
After seeing Scorpius to bed, one night in late November, I retired to my own room, picking up my book, continuing to read. The hours slipped away, and I was forced to stop reading and turn in for the night. It was a silent night... almost.
My eyelashes flickered open at the nudging on my arm. I met a teary eyed blond little boy.
“M-miss Y/n? I-I had a nightmare and d-dad’s not h-home,” He hiccupped, trying to hold back further tears.
I was immediately alert and awake, a gentle smile on my face. The light from the hall softly lit the room. I scooched back in the bed and held up the covers.
“Well, come on,” I encouraged. “It’s alright,”
Scorpius hurried under the duvet and curled up to my side without hesitation. My arms draped around him and my hands stoked his hair softly. I had no idea what I was doing, but it seemed to calm the young Malfoy.
“Nightmares, huh?” I asked softly and he nodded into my shoulder. “Can I tell you a secret?” Starling blue eyes met mine shining with tears and hope.
“There’s a way to beat nightmares,” I smiled widely and pulled my wand from under the pillow. “It’s called a Patronus,”
With practiced movements I casted the charm and a silvery ferret emerged from my wand. My eyebrows furrowed. The last time I casted the charm, it was a housecat. The ferret, however, bounced around in the air, circling around the room before hovering in front of Scorpius.
“You have a Patronus, Scorpius,” I let the charm fall, tucking my wand back away. “And it’s always protecting you,”
“But I can’t do magic,” The little boy pouted. “I don’t even have a wand.”
“A Patronus isn’t cast by a wand,” I watched confusion fall upon his face. “It lives inside you, in your happiest memories. And it always protects you.”
The little boy nodded, and I went back to stroking his hair softly.
“I miss daddy,” He mumbled.
“I know sweetheart,” I sighed softly. “But he’s out there protecting you too. He takes down bad wizards who want to hurt you and everyone else,”
“People say that daddy is a bad wizard,” Scorpius was almost scared to say it.
I took a sharp breath in and exhaled slowly.
“I grew up with your dad,” I told him, rubbing his back. “And he made some... difficult choices. We all did. His choices didn’t work out so well, and people hold it against him. But we were just kids,” I sighed softly thinking of my last few years at Hogwarts. “I should have done something...” Shaking the thought I looked back down to Scorpius. “But your daddy loves you. So much Scorpius, and though it may not seem like it, you’re his entire world.”
He nodded into my shoulder again, and I pulled the covers around him. His eyes had a hard time staying open. I smiled, running my fingers through his hair still. Humming an old lullaby, we were both calmed to sleep.
“Scorpius!?” A harsh worried voice called.
My hand went to my wand as I cradled Scorpius protectively watching Draco burst in through the door. We both seemed to relax at the sight of the other. Scorpius stirred in my arms, blinking up at me sleepily.
“Nightmare?” Draco asked softly, kneeling beside my bed, reaching out to stroke his son’s head.
I nodded and uncurled my arms from around him, letting him cling to his father, he was now wrapped up in Draco’s arms. Draco disappeared from the room for a few minutes then returned. I sat up, turning on the lamp.
“I’m sorry about that,” Draco looked at the floor. “He’s been having a hard time lately.”
I nodded. “It’s okay, I don’t mind.”
“Thank you,” There was a weight in Draco’s eyes.
“Dray,” I called. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, long day, that’s all,” He rubbed his face. “One too many hexes... we got him though,”
“That’s good,” There was a silence that hung around us.
“How did you get him to calm down?” Draco asked, changing the topic. “It takes me at least an hour,”
“Patronus Charm,” I smiled. “And an old muggle lullaby,” I tacked on.
“Are you contaminating my son with muggle things?” The words were harsh, but there was a smile at Draco’s lips.
“A bit,” I smiled back. “He loves you Draco,” I confessed to my duvet after a moment.
He nodded and leaned against the door jam, his eyes slipping closed. I called his name and his eyes snapped back open. He grumbled a goodnight and lumber down the hall. I shrugged mentally and spent the next hour staring at the ceiling trying to figure out why my Patronus had changed all of a sudden.
It was a few nights later and I was awoken again, this time by muffled screams and cries. I sprang from my bed, wand in hand, Lighting Charm casted as I tore down the hall. The sounds were coming from Draco’s room. I barged in and saw him thrashing on the bed.
Nightmares must have been a commonality in the Malfoy household.
“Draco!” I called, setting down my wand and shaking his shoulder. “Draco! Wake up!”
His eyes didn’t flash open. He didn’t seem to notice me.
“Daddy?” A small voice called from the door.
“Scorpius go get me a glass of water, please,” I threw the task at the young boy to get him out of the room. He scurried off.
“Come on, Draco,” I whispered, throwing back the sheets. “You can beat this,”
Grabbing my wand, I went through a mental list of spells that might wake him up, but I took the notion after dealing with Scorpius’ nightmares and casted my Patronus. The ferret instantly soared towards Draco, diving into his chest and disappearing. I stared, awaiting.
“Draco?” I asked again, sitting beside him on the bed. Hesitantly, I reached out and took his hand. “Please wake up Draco,” I pleaded softly. “It’s just a dream,”
Blue eyes flashed open and wrestled me to the ground, wand under my throat, a wild look in his eyes. I raised my hands in surrender, raising my eyebrows at him.
“It’s me,” I soothed. “It’s just me,”
Draco groaned and released me, rubbing his face. He sat on the floor, leaning against the bed frame. I sat next to him. We didn’t say anything. There wasn’t much to say. The patter of little feat had us both looking at Scorpius enter the room, glass of water in his shaking hands. He offered it to me, and I passed it to Draco who downed it instantly.
“Are you okay daddy?” Scorpius asked meekly.
“Yeah, I’m okay bud,” He nodded. “Just a dream,”
“Don’t you have a Patronus like Miss Y/n? She says it protects you from nightmares,”
“It’s okay sweetheart,” I smiled tiredly. “I let him use mine tonight,” Standing, I lifted the little boy into my arms. “Let’s get back to bed, huh?”
It took a while, but Scorpius did finally settle down enough for me to feel comfortable to leave him—it did require a bit of spell work. A simple spell that left his bedroom ceiling reflecting the starry night outside—what my parents used to do for me. Another soft muggle lullaby and the stars beckoned the young Malfoy to sleep.
When I turned to leave, Draco was waiting for me in the hallway. Something gripped my heart when I saw the brushed away tears on his face. Without thinking, I wrapped him in my arms, pulling him close. He didn’t push me away. Instead he clung to me, the same way that Scorpius did.
My hands laced into his long silvery hair, carding through it. He pressed his face into my shoulder—having to hunch himself down to accomplish the feat—and inhaled deeply.
Before I wanted him to, he pulled away. Again, we didn’t say anything. Deciding that I wasn’t going to leave Draco on his own either tonight, I took his hand and led him back to my room. He didn’t protest. I nodded to the bed and got in on one side and he got in on the other. There was a tension between us that dissolved when I reached out for his hand in the moonlight.
“Has your Patronus always been a ferret?” He asked softly.
“It was a cat up until recently,” I confessed.
We fell back into silence and remained like that until my eyelids became too heavy to open again.
“Thank you,” Was the last thing I heard before being pulled under.
In the morning, he was gone. I expected it though, he had to work at the Ministry. It was the entire point of my being at the Manor, to watch after Scorpius while his father worked. That and tutor him, but that was become less of a priority the more time I spent with the small family.
That night, however, I was on the verge of sleep when I heard my bedroom door open. A familiar silhouette slunk through the darkness, padding across the wooden floor. A small smile grew on my face as Draco slipped into bed next to me, lying very still. My heart raced. I rolled onto my back and we both stared at the ceiling in silence. Our soft breaths were the only thing heard. His hand reached for mine in the darkness.
He was gone again in the morning. I sighed and sat up, rubbing my face. My feelings were confusing themselves as questions swarmed in my mind. Draco was home for dinner that night. Scorpius went on and on about the day we had: I introduced him to Latin.
“They’re just like spells!” He exclaimed. “Miss Y/n showed me!”
“You know Latin?” Draco looked at me.
“Spent a few semesters at a muggle college learning it,” I shrugged. “Some records only have copies written in it.”
He didn’t comment.
I retired to my room early that night, worrying my lip the entire evening, trying to figure out what was going on. It was all so confusing. Sometimes I thought I saw something in Draco and he in me, but... what did I know?
Draco was preparing for another long-term case. It was only a week. Scorpius tried not to cry in front of his father, but later the young Malfoy ran to me in tears. I lifted him into my arms and rocked him softly. I began to sing another muggle lullaby, a new one. It caught his attention as he calmed to listen to my new melody.
“How do you know all of these songs?” He asked with watery eyes.
“I used to get scared too,” I confided in him as I laid him into bed. “Sometimes I still do. They’re another secret to keep from being afraid.”
“But where do they come from?” He asked.
I smiled and pulled his covers up. “That... is something I’ll have to talk to your father about. It’s complicated,”
“Why?”
“Because they’re all muggle songs,” I explained softly. “And your father is...”
“Against muggles?” Scorpius frowned.
“No,” I responded immediately. “But though I teach you, I don’t have liberty to tell you everything my dear,”
“Why not?”
“Because...” I sighed. I’m not your mother.
“It’s complicated?” Scorpius gave a familiar smirk that once belonged to his father.
“Quite so,” I replied and stood. “I’ll talk to him before he leaves.”
“Night Miss Y/n,”
“Goodnight Scorpius,”
I closed his door and leaned against it for a moment before finding my courage to go and find Draco. I found him packing in his study, gathering books and various magical items. I knocked on the door frame.
“Yes?” He didn’t look up.
How was I supposed to start this conversation?
“Y/n?” This time he did look up, worry in his blue eyes. “What’s wrong?” He set down his bag and came over to me. “Is Scorpius alright?”
“Yes, he’s fine,” I answered quickly. “He... Am I allowed to show him muggle movies?” The question was barely audible.
Draco’s expression sobered as he went back to his desk.
“They’re just fairytales, Draco.” I reasoned softly. “Just stories...”
“And they were just lullabies,” He snapped. “I should have stopped you the first time you sang to him... muggle songs... my son wanting to hear muggle songs... and movies...”
It was like a slap to the face. I took a small step back. Maybe I had been wrong, and Draco was still against muggles.
“If they’re so awful, why didn’t you stop me?” I snapped. “You had every chance to stop me.”
“I’m stopping you now,” His voice was ice.
“You can’t do that,” I argued back. “He wants to know!”
“I do as I please! I am his father! You work for me! You will do as I say!” He threw down a book and stormed over to me, fury written on his face.
“Then I resign,” I bit out.
He faltered and froze.
“What?”
“You heard me,” I tilted my chin back. “I will not be treated like a child. And I will not keep secrets from yours. He deserves more than that,” My voice was calm and even.
“And what do you know about what he deserves!?” Draco spat. “He isn’t your child! You aren’t his mother!”
“I know that!” I yelled back, tears in my eyes.
I turned away, covering my face, biting back the tears that wanted to fall. I took a deep breath.
“I’ll stay until you return, for Scorpius’ sake.” I gritted out. “Then I’m gone,”
I ran down the halls of the Manor and slammed my door shut, locking it childishly. Then I broke down into tears, leaning against it. I quieted when I heard footsteps coming down the hallway. They lingered outside my door but made no attempt to knock or open the door.
The next morning, he was gone.
Scorpius noticed my somber mood almost immediately. He asked me why I was sad. Then he asked me what I fought with his father about, bursting into tears when I told him that I was leaving within the week.
“But you can’t go Miss Y/n!” He sobbed, crawling into my lap. I bit back tears and cradled him close.
“I have to,” A few tears escaped. “But that doesn’t mean I love you any less,” I stroked his face softly, brushing away tears. “But I can’t keep things from you, and your father won’t let me teach them to you. I can’t do that to you my darling,”
“I don’t care! I don’t want you to go!” He clung to me.
“Scorpius, darling,” I tried to reason with a four-year-old.
“No! I won’t let you go!” He cried.
I held him close, hiding my face from him so that he didn’t have to see me cry. I started to whisper out another song. It quieted his crying once more but didn’t stop my own. He slept with me every night that week. I knew it wasn’t a smart idea, but I couldn’t seem to get out the word ‘no.’
There was a loud crack in the foyer while I was teaching Scorpius how to write his letters—he had a habit of mixing up runes and letters. I rose, knowing the sound of apperating and rushed down the hall. Draco was lain on the floor, scantly breathing and bleeding, severely.
I froze at the sight and turned, catching Scorpius in my arms and ushering him away from the sight.
“Scorpius, I need you to listen to me very carefully,” I set him down, kneeling in front of him. “In my room there’s a green carpet bag with purple flowers on it. I need that bag. Please Scorpius,”
He nodded and took off up the stairs and I rose, shedding my cardigan and rolling up my sleeves. I hurried over to Draco, kneeling beside him, drawing my wand.
“Medicari,” I chanted, running my wand over his slain skin.
The gashes on his skin vanished, but he still looked deathly.
“Draco? Draco can you hear me!?” I fought back tears, lifting his head softly, placing it in my lap.
Scorpius came in, my bag in his arms. I thanked him and ripped the bag open. He took his father’s hand, silent tears on his face as a house elf showed up behind him.
“Get out!” I shouted at the elf, drawing a vial from my bag: Elixir of Life. “Just one drop,” I whispered softly to myself.
Uncapping the bottle, I took the dropper and placed it to Draco’s lips that were parted, scarce breaths drawing through them. Just one drop.
Slowly Draco became less a sickly green and restored back to the beautiful pale complexion. His breathing became deeper, healthier. His lips were no linger blue, but the soft pink color they had always been. His eyes remained closed, however.
“Daddy?” Scorpius asked softly.
“He’ll be fine,” I whispered, mostly to myself.
My eyes trailed over his body, making sure I hadn’t missed anything else, and I noticed that his shirt sleeve had been torn and the Dark Mark was opaque black and surrounded by red and irritated skin.
“Death Eaters,” I hissed. “Scorpius, come here,” I opened my arms and the little boy ran to me. I held him protectively and drew my wand, casting Protective and Shielding Charms around the Manor.
“What are Death Eaters?” Scorpius asked.
“I’ll tell you later,” I murmured softly. “Just stay close for now.” My eyes kept darting around the room, expecting to see the dead walk again and my old nightmares come back to haunt me.
“Are you still gonna leave?” Scorpius sniffled, his tears staring to fall again.
“No, sweetheart,” I consoled. “I’m not leaving you on your own.”
I was decided in that moment. It didn’t matter what Draco said to me or ordered me to do. I would stay for Scorpius’ sake. Even if that meant laying aside my pride. I would stay.
With the dreadful feeling that Draco might not wake up soon, I called a house elf—whom I apologized to upon seeing—and had her apparate Draco up to his room, and into bed. Scorpius was glued to my side the entire evening. The house elf came in later with soup and tea for dinner as well as a bowl of water and washcloth.
After dinner, Scorpius fell asleep in my lap. I gently laid him on the chaise lounge that was next to the bed and covered him with an extra blanket. Then I took the water and washcloth and began my task.
I took my time and gently washed the sweat and grim from Draco’s face, moving to his neck and arms. He looked peaceful like this. Years of harsh and cold looks were gone. Instead I found something reminiscent of a young boy at Hogwarts evident in his features. Without knowing it, I began to sing softly.
I unbuttoned Draco’s black shirt and continued to wash away the dried blood and dirt. It was a slow process, but it gave me something to focus on; rather than the crippling anxiety that loomed over me. My fingertips traced old scars that littered his chest in an abstract pattern. I wondered how many of them he had to mend alone...
I sat on the floor, leaning against the bedframe and tried to read my book, but failed. I just stared at the fire in the hearth and sang absentmindedly. The grandfather clock in the hall chimed three o’clock.
“Y/n?” A scratchy groggy voice called.
I sprang up and met tired blue eyes.
“Merlin, Draco,” I cried, tears springing into my eyes as I crouched beside him stroking his face.
He tried to sit up and I aided him, tears streaming silently down my face.
“Don’t do that to me!” I squeaked, cupping his face between my hands, sitting on the bed. “What were you thinking!?”
“I-I’m sorry,” He stammered, shocked at my cry of emotion.
I drew him into a tight embrace and buried my face in his shoulder. Tentatively his arms wrapped around me. After a moment, they started to rub my back as I cried into his shoulder.
“I thought I was going to lose you,” I confessed through tears.
“No, never,” His vow baffled me.
I withdrew and studied him, confusion and heart break on both of our faces.
“I’m sorry,” He took my hand in his. “It was wrong for me to yell at you like that. Or to say the things I did. Please, don’t leave. Even if you can’t stand to be near me, nor say another word to me again, Scorpius needs you,” A pause. “...I need you.”
Saddened blue eyes met mine and I pressed my lips to his without a second thought. His lips melded to mine instantly as he drew me into his arms. My hands went to his hair, knotting themselves into his long locks. His lips were hot and desperate against mine—mine even more so against his.
“Daddy?”
We quickly parted, both of our attentions snapping to a sleepy Scorpius.
“Why are you kissing Miss Y/n?” He asked, rubbing his eyes. “And why is she in your lap?”
After a moment of shock, I dissolved into laughter, hiding my face in Draco’s shoulder. I felt him shake with laughter too. One of Draco’s hands left my waist, beckoning Scorpius into our embrace. It took a bit of finagling, but soon we were all laying on the bed, Scorpius tucked between Draco and me. Draco pulled a blanket around us, pressing kisses to Scorpius’ head and to my forehead. My fingers combed through Scorpius’ hair as I watched him fall asleep to the soft melody that fell from my lips.
When I was positive that he was asleep, my gaze shifted to nervous blue eyes. I searched for answers, for an explanation. Draco seemed to pick up on that.
“They... Polyjuice Potion,” He started. “It was you; they were you... I... Merlin, Y/n,” He reached out and took my hand. “It was a living nightmare... your screams... they wouldn’t advance... it was days before...”
“Stars, Draco,” My heart broke at the picture that he was piecing together for me.
I could only imagine if the roles had been switched and it was Draco that I had heard screaming from pain and torture for days... not being able to do anything... trying to prove to myself it wasn’t real... What would I have done?
“You went in alone,” I realized. “You... Draco, what were you thinking? You could have been killed!” I whispered harshly, careful not to wake Scorpius.
“I... They weren’t going to take away someone else that I cared for. I wasn’t going to sit by and watch it happen,” His voice was firm and sure.
I reached out and stroked his face softly, his eyes connecting with mine. Nothing was said but everything was meant. It was moments like these that my regrets shone the most. I should have done more in school... I should have done something...
“I was going to stay anyway,” I confessed, my gaze dropping down to the young Malfoy. “I couldn’t leave him like that.”
“You... you would have let me order you around... for the sake of my son?” Draco’s eyebrows furrowed.
“Yes,” I whispered softly. “And I still will, if that’s what it takes.”
My eyes met his again. There were tears in them.
“What did I ever do to deserve you?” Draco whispered softly.
I smiled and shook my head softly.
“It’s never about what we deserve, but what we do in spite of it,”
We fell asleep, the three of us, curled up and clinging to each other. It was peaceful, for once. When I awoke in the morning, I was alone. Frantically I looked around for Scorpius but relaxed when I heard laughter and a loud clatter downstairs.
Snagging Draco’s house coat, I made my way downstairs to find Draco and Scorpius in the kitchen, in various states of disaster. Scorpius was covered in what looked like flour—Draco not faring much better—and the kitchen counters were covered with pretty much every baking utensil and dish that the Malfoy’s owned. It was very hard not to laugh. So, I did.
“Scourgify,” I snapped my fingers and the kitchen began to return to a less chaotic state of being.
Scorpius marveled at the wandless magic as everything was placed in its proper order. I carefully made my way over to the two Malfoys, avoiding dishes and pans that floated around in a hurry to find their proper homes.
“Good morning,” I drawled, raising an eyebrow at Draco.
“He insisted we make pancakes the muggle way because someone taught him,” He raised an eyebrow back at me.
“I almost remember how to do it Miss Y/n!” Scorpius cut in between us, pulling at my hand.
Chuckling, I pulled him up into my arms and set him on the counter. Then I went around and gathered what was actually necessary to make pancakes. Draco watched quietly, offering things I needed before I could ask for them. His gaze and hands always lingered when they were upon me, and it left me a bit redder than I cared to admit.
With breakfast on the small kitchen table, coffee and tea brewed—a glass of milk for Scorpius— we ate in the company of one another. Draco started to chide Scorpius about the amount of syrup he was using, and I gave Draco an amused look and he refrained, sighing and reading the Daily Prophet. (It meant having to give Scorpius a bath afterwards because of the sticky mess, but it was worth it).
“How did you do it?” Draco asked as we walked the grounds, Scorpius chasing the wild peacocks.
“Do what?” I asked, eyeing a peacock that was getting a bit too aggressive for my taste.
“Last night,” He gave, but I still wasn’t quite sure what he wanted me to explain. “you saved my life. I know about every spell and potion out there... how did you do it so quickly?”
“Elixir of Life,” I paused and teetered my head. “Sort of. It’s the juice of the Fire-Flowers that grow in the Mountains of the Sun. Cures any illness and injury... as long as the person still has breath.”
“That what of what?”
I laughed. “Historian, remember?” I nudged his side. “You learn a few things. I think I have what’s left of it... no one has been able to find the flowers or the mountain any longer.”
“What did you go and waste it on me for then?” He exclaimed.
“Um, you were dying?” I argued back. “It wasn’t a waste.”
“I’m hardly worth keeping alive,”
“That’s not true,” I refuted stubbornly. “You mean so much to Scorpius, and to me for that matter. What would either of us do without you?” I looked to Scorpius who had a peacock feather in his hand, waving it proudly. We both waved back.
“He’d be fine. He’s strong,”
“He’s four, Draco,” I snapped. “He doesn’t need to be strong; he needs to be a kid.”
Draco pursed his lips and sighed. “Suppose you’re right,” He finally admitted. “Sometimes I wonder if I’m doing this right...”
“There is no right way to raise someone, Draco,” Then mended, “Okay, there’s no one certain way that you have to raise someone. And I think you’re doing just fine with him. He’s a great kid, Dray,”
“Miss Y/n! Look what I found!” Scorpius ran over, a small bowtruckle in his hand.
“Look at that!” I crouched down. “But you better go put him back, he needs to be with his family,”
The little boy nodded and ran back into the yard, crouching down beside a bush. Our conversation of the matter seemed to end there. Draco was called back into work and Scorpius and I remained outside for the rest of the evening. When he returned later that evening, Scorpius was fast asleep in bed and I was staring at the family portraits in the great room. Though the figures moved, they gave me no guidance on what to do. Draco came and stood beside me, gazing at the paintings as well.
“She was beautiful,” I whispered softly, looking at the painting of Draco, Astoria, and an infant Scorpius. “With more courage than a lion,”
Draco nodded and stared at his late wife. I gnawed at my lip and sighed softly.
“Sometimes I wonder how things would have changed if she was still here,” Draco confessed to the painting. “If they would have...”
“Well, you wouldn’t need me,” I smiled sadly.
“And why not?” He turned to me, confusion on his features. “Scorpius would still need a teacher,”
“But we never would have met in the park that day. It wouldn’t be me here...” My gaze shifted back to the portrait.
He went quiet at that, and with a deep breath, bid me goodnight and retired to his room for the rest of the evening. I gave the paintings one last glimpse and turned in myself. I was alone that night, not getting much sleep.
We fell back into an odd sort of routine as December ended. I attempted to keep my emotions for Draco under control as I continued to teach his son. I may have failed at the notion completely. I had convinced Draco to throw a small party for Scorpius for his fifth birthday and though it was only the three of us as well as Narcissa and Lucius, the youngest Malfoy was the happiest five- year-old in the world.
“Miss Y/l/n,” Narcissa gestured for me to join her in a quiet sitting room.
Setting down my plate of homemade cake—that I showed Scorpius how to make upon his request and pouting—I followed her. Anxiety grew in my chest as we sat by the warm hearth.
“It’s my understanding that you are tutoring my grandson,” She said softly.
“Yes ma’am,” I nodded, fidgeting with my sweater.
“And that you care deeply for my son,” She gave me a knowing look.
I pressed my lips together and stared at the crackling fire.
“It doesn’t matter how I feel,” I repeated my mantra. “I can’t...”
“And why not?” My eyes snapped up at hers, a startled look on my face as she continued. “Draco has been through a lot, and I cannot change the past. Astoria aided him through some of it, setting him back on his feet, but you my dear, have brought back life to my son’s eyes.”
“Mrs. Malfoy,” I started, but she raised her hand to stop me.
“I understand if you do not wish to take on the family name, nor commit to a very broken man.”
“That’s not the issue,” I amended quickly. “I... I don’t know if Draco is ready... Sometimes I think yes, then other times I don’t know what’s going through his head... and I don’t want to lose him or Scorpius if I’m wrong...”
“We are never truly ready for anything my dear,” Narcissa spoke softly, reminiscing. “But I know my son, and I know that he has changed so much since you’ve been around. Do not be afraid of not being ready, it’s when true character shines through,” She rose elegantly and gave me a warm smile. “You are good for him,”
“Everything alright in here?” Draco stood in the doorway, a curious look on his face. I did my best to offer an encouraging smile.
“Yes, quite,” His mother smiled and swept out of the room with the grace of a swan.
I stood and readjusted the shawl around my shoulders. Draco’s eyes didn’t leave me as I walked over to him. He was still waiting for me to explain.
“It’s nothing,” I smiled and looked down. “We just talked about Scorpius and his studies, that’s all,” It was an easy lie, and I knew that he could see through it, but he didn’t call me out on it.
“Miss Y/n! Look! Daddy got me a book! Just like yours!” Scorpius bounded over to me, a thick leather-bound book in his hands.
“Isn’t that wonderful!” I beamed, bending down, examining the book’s cover.
Walt Disney’s Classic Storybook Collection: Volume Three
Shock flitted across my emotions as I looked up at Draco, my eyebrows drawing together.
“They’re just fairytales,” He offered a lopsided smile and a small shrug.
I couldn’t stop the smile on my face or the warmth in my heart that grew. I rose, giving Scorpius his book back and went over to Draco.
“You didn’t have to do that,” I whispered softly. “I told you, it was alright.”
“You were right, Y/n,” He spoke in a hushed tone. “He deserves to know, and he deserves to be a kid,” He pulled me beside him, nodding to his son that played with a mix of muggle and magic toys on the floor, Lucius eyeing him warily and Narcissa beaming.
I leaned against Draco and watched Scorpius play in the firelight, pondering what Narcissa had told me. Was I really the one that brought life back into this small family? Could Draco hold the same regard for me as I did for him?
With his arm wrapped around my side, keeping me close, I thought that just maybe he could.
The night after Narcissa and Lucius had gone, Scorpius begged me to read from his new book as a bedtime story. I gave in and opened the gold leaf pages and skimmed the table of contents. I chose a familiar tale: Peter Pan.
“Is one of your songs from this story?” Scorpius asked, his eyes shining.
“Not this one, no,” I smiled. “But we’ll get to those, I promise,”
He nodded and settled in as I began to read the fairytale. Scorpius was fast asleep before Peter saved Wendy from the mermaids. I closed the book and set it on his bedside table, smiling and leaving his room, the door cracked open. Draco was in his study, hunched over a book on his desk, deeply focused. Passing the room, I headed to the kitchen and made two cups of tea before returning. Setting one on his desk next to him, I stood behind him, leaning against his desk chair.
He murmured a thanks and didn’t look up from the book. Gathering my courage, I sat my mug down as well.
“Draco, can we talk?” I bit my lip and looked down.
His blue eyes looked up from the book, his eyebrows raised, waiting for me to continue. I took a deep breath. Hopefully this conversation would go better than the last time we ‘talked.’
“I... have had a wonderful time, here over the past year, with you and Scorpius,” I began. He sighed.
“I understand,” There was an air of melancholy in his voice.
“You do?” I wondered what he was referring to or if we were on the same page. It seemed like we weren’t.
“You wish to leave,” His gaze didn’t meet mine. “You tried, and it didn’t work, I understand.”
“What?” I took a small step back, wrapping my arms around myself. “Where in the world did you get an idea like that?” I paused. “Do you want me to leave?” My voice was as small as I felt in that moment.
“No,” He confessed softly.
“Then what do you want?” His eyes flashed to mine.
“The truth?” He seemed nervous and afraid. I nodded. “I... I don’t...” He pursed his lips together and stood, his back to me, like it would make it easier. “I don’t sleep well when you’re not beside me. I don’t go a day at work without thinking about you. I feel the same need to protect you as I do with Scorpius.
“You understand my son in a way I’ll never comprehend, and I see you in him more and more every day. I’ve given you everything I can, and I still fear it’s not enough to make you want to stay. Because I’ve spent months trying to deny and conceal what I feel about you from you and myself and I can’t do it anymore.”
I gaped at him.
“And maybe keeping you away will keep you safe,” He whispered.
I rounded his desk and reached out, placing my hand on his shoulder. He turned, desperation in his eyes. I reached up and stroked his cheek softly.
“I love you Y/n,” As if the notion broke him.
“I love you too, Draco,”
His hands cradled my face as he drew me into a scared, hesitant kiss. My hands splayed over his shoulders and pulled him closer. Holding another close, we melted into the other. Past fears, regrets, pains, and nightmares all laid aside for one shining moment.
“Don’t go away,” He whispered softly against my lips.
“Never,” I vowed. “You’re stuck with me now,” I smiled up at him.
“And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
It was a soft and gentle night. Draco continued to read, I brought my book and joined him in the sitting room that his mother and I spoke in not hours before. He was sitting in the center of the sofa and my legs were draped across his lap as we read into the late hours of the night.
With unspoken words and requests, we curled up together in his bed, in ridiculously expensive silk sheets and down pillows. My fingers absent mindedly traced the scars across his chest, my head nestled on his shoulder and his arm around me.
He rose early in the morning, placing a kiss to my forehead before heading to get ready for work. In his house coat again, I saw him off, kissing him softly before he departed. Contented, I went to wake Scorpius, humming softly to myself. He insisted that I read him another fairytale after lunch, and I compromised and agreed I would after his lesson.
Draco returned that evening, in a pleasant mood, placing a kiss on my cheek, before lifting Scorpius into his arms, asking about his son’s day. The young Malfoy babbled about the tale of Peter Pan and Captain Hook, saying he wanted to fly like Peter.
“Do you still have your broom?” I mused, curious. “I remember someone being quite the quidditch player,”
Scorpius’ eyes lit up. “You know how to play Quidditch!?” He exclaimed.
I laughed as Draco set down his son, the three of us heading out to the backyard where Draco produced two broomsticks. The wood hummed in my hand the same way that my wand did and responded to my thoughts. Draco and I hovered just above the ground. He pulled Scorpius onto the broom with him and kicked off, soaring high over the Manor. I laughed and chased after them. We flew until the setting sun provided no more light.
Scorpius was asleep in my arms as we headed back inside. Draco followed me up the stairs, helping me tuck his sleeping son into bed. With his arms wrapped around me, Draco and I watched the peaceful slumber that Scorpius had claimed.
“You’re a good mother to him,” Draco whispered lowly, not to disturb his son’s slumber.
My heart fluttered at his words, my lips curling into a smile. A new sort of anxiety set into my chest.
“And you’re a great father,” I gazed up at him through my eyelashes.
Again, Draco and I curled up together in the quiet of the night, talking about anything and everything. What we had been doing the past ten years, what jobs we had taken, how our families were. Some nights Scorpius would join us in bed, either from loneliness or nightmares.
We hold him, as I found another melody to put him to sleep again. In fact, my lullabies had a habit of putting both Malfoys to sleep.
In the park one spring afternoon, Scorpius went off and played with other kids his age. It made me smile, knowing that he probably craved the company of those his age. Draco and I sat together on the same bench where it all started.
“Does that boy look familiar to you?” Draco mused, nodding to the child that Scorpius was laughing with, chasing around the swing sets. There was another little girl with them, with bright red hair and an older boy who held more of a likeness than the younger one.
My eyes started to scan park for the Potters.
“There,” I pointed inconspicuously towards another couple a few benches down from us. “Should we go say hi?” I mused.
Draco scoffed and rolled his eyes.
“Oh, come on, don’t tell me you’re still harboring a grudge.” I laughed. “We were kids, Draco. Besides,” I nudged his side. “It looks like Ginny beat me to it.”
The two Potters came walking over, one sulking, one smiling brightly. Draco and I stood, mirroring the other couple.
“I thought I knew a Malfoy when I saw one,” Ginny grinned at me and Draco.
“Ginny,” I beamed, and we hugged.
“It’s been too long Y/n,” She smiled.
The two boys seemed to be having a stare down, neither giving in. I slipped my hand into Draco’s and Harry’s eyes darted to the gesture, then to my eyes. I offered a smile and Harry seemed to backtrack a bit.
“Daddy! Daddy!”
Both Draco and Harry turned.
Scorpius came bounding over smiling hugely. Draco crouched down, a smile on his face as well.
“Daddy! I made a new friend! We’re lost boys together!” Scorpius beamed. “And his brother is Peter Pan and his sister is a lost boy like us!”
The other three children came over, all flocking to Harry and Ginny, telling about the same story that Scorpius did, who was now in Draco’s arms, still going on about their adventure.
“You son knows about Peter Pan?” Harry asked skeptically. “Isn’t that a bit muggle for your lot?” There was a snide tone in his words.
“They’re fairytales Harry. Let them be kids,” Draco responded coolly, like I hadn’t spent months trying to get that through his head.
“Miss Y/n knows all about fairytales! She’s really good at singing them too! She’s been teaching me about so many things!” Scorpius could barely hide his excitement.
Harry looked at the three of us, baffled.
“Seems we have a lot to catch up on,” He finally spoke.
“You’ll have to come by the Manor sometime with the kids,” Draco offered to everyone’s shock, including mine.
“Er, yes.” Harry narrowed his eyes. “I’ll have Ginny send an owl,”
Draco gave a small nod and set Scorpius down.
“Men,” I heard Ginny muttered and grinned.
The young Malfoy clung to my side, holding my hand. This seemed to surprise Harry and Ginny both.
“Are you ready to go, darling?” I asked Scorpius, crouching down. Scorpius gave a small pout. “No crocodile tears,” I tickled him, lifting him into my arms. “Or I’ll just have to make dinner myself tonight...”
The young Malfoy perked up at that. Every once in a while, I’d cook dinner myself, the muggle way and Scorpius was always keen on learning how. Draco joined us on those nights, showing his son how magic also worked in the kitchen.
“I’ll send an owl,” I smiled to Ginny and Harry. “Say goodbye Scorpius,”
A chorus of goodbyes rang about the four children and Draco and I apparated home. Scorpius bounded off to the bathroom to wash his hands at my request before we started dinner and Draco cornered me against the counter in the kitchen.
“Was that so bad?” I smiled up at him, wrapping my arms around his neck.
“Terrible, absolutely dreadful,” He smirked, pressing a kiss to my lips. “Potter,” He snarled in a familiar tone that had me laughing.
“Oh, some things never change, do they?” I laughed into his shoulder.
“Afraid not,” Draco chuckled. “Thank you, for staying by my side.” His words were soft and low.
“Of course, always,” I murmured, tugging the hair tie from his hair and running my fingers through it. His eyes closed as he relaxed under my touch.
“I love you,” His tone was soft.
“I love you too,”
Something lingered in his eyes. Something that he hid and something that made the butterflies in my chest flutter anxiously. A question that we both waited for.
It was a few days later that the Potters came over to the Manor, along with the youngest Weasleys and their parents, and another teen who was just as much family as the five kids that accompanied them.
It was tense and awkward for some time between Harry, Ron, and Draco, but with some easy planning and quick thinking between Ginny, Hermione, and me, it faded. We all sat comfortably
out on the back porch, watching the kids play in the yard. I couldn’t help but smile watching Scorpius finally having someone his own age to play and imagine with. Draco seemed to have the same thought because his hand found mine.
“So how did you two end up together?” Ron asked, not so stealthily to Hermione’s dismay.
I laughed and Draco smiled.
“Draco hired me to tutor Scorpius,” I shrugged. “And well...” I looked to Draco and smiled.
“That explains why Scorpius knows so many muggle things,” Harry laughed. “I never thought I’d see the day,”
Soon we all began swapping stories, catching up with each other’s lives. It was nice to be beside Draco and other friends from school. The memories that always haunted me about Hogwarts seemed to fade as the afternoon went on. Dusk came and the two other families bid us goodnight. Scorpius was sad to see his friends go, but with a promise that they would be back, he seemed alright. It wasn’t hard to get him to bed that night, he was fast asleep after the first verse of my lullaby.
An early June day, Scorpius insisted that we make another cake for Draco’s birthday. I laughed and let the young Malfoy pull me to the kitchen as we started our adventure. When Draco came home from work, he found us both covered in frosting, laughing. At least some of the frosting made it onto the cake.
“Happy birthday, Daddy!” Scorpius yelled. “We made a cake!”
“I see that,” He grinned, setting down his case and shrugging off his robe. “And a mess,”
He leaned down and pressed a kiss to my cheek then lifted Scorpius into his arms. The little boy giggled, and like every day that Draco came home, began to talk about his day.
“Happy birthday love,” I smiled, leaving them to catch up.
I snapped my fingers and the kitchen began to clean itself again as I set the cake onto a cake stand, I had found in the pantry. With dinner eaten and cake devoured—and no longer all over Scorpius and I—the night was quiet once more.
“Now,” Draco sat Scorpius on the counter. “A little birdie told me that someone wants to see a certain movie?”
Scorpius’ face lit up and nodded enthusiastically. I raised an eyebrow at Draco, who grinned. He lifted his son into his arms and led us both to a small sitting room where a screen and projector had been set up. I gasped, covering my mouth with my hand, tears pricking my eyes.
“Dray,” I breathed out. “You didn’t have to...”
“It’s about time he gets to see them, no?” Draco set his son down on the mountain of pillows and blankets that resided on the floor. “He deserves to be a kid.”
I pulled Draco into a hug. “I love you,”
“I love you too,”
Drawing away, I looked at Scorpius who was waiting more or less patiently.
“And every kid deserves a pillow fort.” I drew my wand and crafted a structurally sound fort, big enough for the three of us.
Nestled down into the fort, Peter Pan began to play. Scorpius was glue to the screen, taking in every moment. In fact, both Malfoys were. Laying my head on Draco’s shoulder, I combed my fingers through Scorpius’ hair.
“If you father knew about this,” I murmured into Draco’s ear, causing him to chuckle.
“He doesn’t have to,” He grinned like a rebellious teenager.
About twenty minutes into Beauty and the Beast, Scorpius was fast asleep in my lap. I chuckled and Draco helped me up as we put him to bed. I headed back down to the makeshift movie room where the movie was still playing to clean up, but Draco caught my hand. I looked at him expectantly. With a snap of his fingers the room cleaned itself and he pulled me to the cleared floor.
“Dance with me,” He gestured to the dancing pair on the screen.
I laughed and nodded, taking his hand and letting him lead me in a familiar waltz. Though I hadn’t done it in some time, my feet remembered what to do. It was intoxicating, dancing with him. It took me to a world of far off places, magic spells, and a prince in disguise. I sang softly with the music playing, the words setting in both of our hearts.
Ending the dance with the fading melody, our eyes locked both panting softly. He leaned down and pressed his lips to mine in a sweet loving kiss, something hidden in his warm eyes when he withdrew. My gaze dropped, a blush on my cheeks.
“Y/n?” He called softly.
I looked up, expectant. Waiting for those four words, dreading their moment but wishing their arrival.
“When we were younger, we lived in a different world,” He began softly. “Things were a lot less complicated. And if, as we are now, met back then... I would have courted you. I may have stolen a kiss or two but only after asking your father’s permission... but we are both very different people now, and I know it’s not the same, but if it were...” He took my hands and slid down onto one knee. My heart hammered in my chest, tears welling into my eyes as a smile grew on my face.
“I would have got down on one knee and I would have presented you with a ring.” He pulled out a small velvet ring box from his pocket and opened it, revealing a ring. “Y/n Y/m/n Y/l/n, I promise to love you every moment forever, would you do me the extraordinary of honor of marrying me?”
With tears streaming down my face I nodded.
“Yes,” I cried. “Yes, yes, yes!”
A smile broke out across Draco’s face as he scooped me into his arms, spinning me around. We were both crying and holding each other. Little ‘I love you’s left our teary-eyed kisses. He slipped the ring onto my finger: a silver band woven with diamonds and emeralds that enchanted itself to fit my ring-finger.
We didn’t let go of another that night. A night that was filled with soft words, gentle kisses, and loving touches. In the morning, Scorpius burst into our room and bound onto the bed, pulled my left hand into his sights as soon as he was close enough, squealing when he saw the ring.
“I told you daddy!” Scorpius beamed. “I told you she would say yes!”
“That you did,” Draco ruffled his son’s hair.
I smiled at my boys and pulled them both close. The morning was lazy and filled with laughter and moments that I wanted to hold close forever.
