The kids were never told much about Stan and Ford. They have no idea at the beginning that Ford allegedly killed Stan, and they only barely know about Ford’s history. They mostly see Ford as a kind of strange and unhinged old man, who just so happens to need constant supervision. Ford loves them to bits, and told them stories about him and Stanley, and about his time at gravity falls. Shermie told the kids not to believe everything that Ford says, but lets Ford tell them anyway. What’s the harm, right?

when they get to gravity falls, Ford tells the kids that this is where Stanley ‘disappeared’. Dipper becomes enraptured by the idea of solving the mystery of what happened to Stanley Pines, only spurred on by the discovery of Journal 3 (Shermie is doing his best to discourage this). So he and Mabel have spent the whole summer trying to learn more about him. Stan coming through the portal was still a shock though, because they had found Stan’s death certificate and Ford’s arrest reports. They were half convinced that Ford was going to end the world (probably based on something McGucket said). So finding out Stan’s alive and was in another dimension hits pretty similar to how it did in canon.

Shermie has trouble grasping it. He’s spent 30 years thinking Stan was dead and murdered by his own twin in a fit of madness. He’d seen Ford’s breakdowns many times, he’d had to learn to live with his insane little brother, and had to help him live in the world with other people. Ford had insisted that Stan wasn’t dead, but he also confessed in court. Shermie feels bad for big believing Ford about it. But also angry. A bit at Ford, a bit at himself, but mostly at the world. His little brother was alive this whole time, and his other brother was falsely arrested for murder. Needless to say, he’s shocked.

I like to think that, in lieu of not having the mystery shack, Soos starts a handyman business. He’s a plumber, electrician, mechanic and pretty much anything else you need him to be. He’s the best handyman in Gravity Falls, so he gets decent business. He spends most of it on Abuelita and anime figurines.

when Soos finds out Wendy needs a job for the summer, he offers Wendy a job as his assistant. Wendy kinda hates it, but Soos pays well, and he lets Wendy slack off and hang with her friends, so it’s not too bad.

the pines are living in the shack over the summer, which hasn’t been touched in 30 years. So Shermie hires Soos to do maintenance and make sure it’s livable. So Soos and Wendy are just generally around a lot.

anon, you are speaking my language! this is actually kind of touching on a concept (au?) I will be eventually writing about? It’s been taking up my head so when I have actually time, I will be writing that :)

I will give a a small snippet of my ideas for that if that’s okay! now in this version, the personality of dad changes. you were not the first product of their love!

I imagine this dad to be rougher, more ruthless, and more strict. he is also more delusional. the way you grew up, now with dad and his goons (your siblings), you aren’t as emotional fragile as regular you is. you are instead more emotionally volatile. you are stuck with these more intense personalities in your home. which are increasingly not caring about your boundaries. when you have your slow realization of the behavior of your family, you just feel more anger, frustration. your parents didn’t dote on you and spoil you in the way it all happened in the regular timeline. you have less coping skills, and struggle more to express yourself. your siblings and everyone else get to leave “normally” and it makes you just stew in your negative feelings.

now, for the brother! yes, your dad definitely treats your siblings differently. they have responsibility over you, and it makes you even more frustrated. why do you have to be treated so differently? he trusts your siblings (all different levels), to handle you and your needs. the have all been raised to be that way. they are older than you and when you were born, that all kicked in. they are raised with the protective mindset of your dad. he can’t keep a constant eye on all of you, so you need to look out for one another. but that’s mostly up to them, not you. he feels at a more peace of mind when it comes to them.

your dad is hard on them, and still a bit hard on you. he changes after having so many kids. there is more to worry about, possibilities and people to get rid of and take care of. it hardens him.

your siblings are all obsessed with you. are they willing to take life? probably, but the circumstances differ. they will make the right choices, it just isn’t up to you. your dad holds them to high expectations, they better not fail.

no, don’t get it twisted. he is also obsessed with the others, just not in the infantilizing way it is with you. he wants to best of them, he wants you all to succeed. and you will, because he will make sure of it. he is still paranoid, and is all over the others, just in a more conventional way.

anyway, he trusts them to be with you and take care of you. he raised them that way, he won’t expect anything less from them.

now, regular dad? chances are if you have an older brother, you are raised closely, you were both coddled. and news flash, clingy as hell. he wasn’t you with and by him all the time and will use his “older brother status” to hang out and be with him. he takes more after your mom :) he is soft and sweet but isn’t afraid to get strict if he needs you. he is a more funny and relatable version of your parents :)

See, when Jason was a kid, the idea of soulmates fascinated him. He was a hopeless romantic after all, of course the idea that someone out there was meant to be his made him swoon. Then, Jason became Robin, and then he died, and for the first time in his life he had hoped he didn't have a soulmate. He didn't want to get an innocent civilian caught up in everything he was.

Of course, fate had a different idea, and so on Jason's 18th birthday he found himself with writing all over his arms. And ever since then, the man on the other side has become a life-line for Jason, one of the few things keeping him going as he trains and kills and plots revenge with the LOA.

In the year since the connection was formed, Jason has learned a decent amount about his soulmate. His name starts with D, and he's older than Jason given the fact that the connection formed as soon as Jason was of age. D is cheery and positive, although he does have a bit of a temper if some of his rants are anything to go by. He also is shit at taking care of himself. Jason almost wants to assume he's a college student with how shitty the man eats and sleeps. D has a younger brother named Timmy who lives in a different city with their father, as well as a deceased brother he misses dearly.

Jason wonders when he'll finally meet his soulmate. Maybe, after he returns to Gotham and enacts his revenge on Bruce, he'll travel around in hope of finding the man. Maybe he'll finally be able to settle down after he's avenged, and live the life he always wanted before everything went to shit. And hopefully his soulmate will be right beside him when he does.

Dick smiles fondly down at his arm. He probably looks like a fool, standing in the middle of the grocery isle grinning at his arm like a madman. But Dick doesn't care. Not when he's talking to his soulmate.

Dick almost gave up on having a soulmate when after five years he hadn't received any sight of a connection. And, well. Maybe it was for the better, he began to think. Dick lives a dangerous life. He's lost too many people because of it, and if Dick had a soulmate to lose he hadn't thought he'd be able to handle it. But then, seven years after Dick's eighteenth birthday, a connection finally formed.

Dick was having the worst day when it had happened. Of course he was, it was the day Jason would have turned eighteen. The boy had loved the idea of soulmates, had read all the classic stories about them. And his enthusiasm had been contagious, even if Dick had been waiting for his own at the time.

Dick didn't want to get out of bed that day. So he wasted away under the blankets instead. He thought about putting on a movie, but the only one coming to mind was one of Jason's favorites, and Dick couldn't bare the thought of watching it without the younger boy, even after all these years. And so he simply stayed curled up in a ball, fighting back the tears threatening to fall every five minutes.

Dick tried to distract himself by doodling on his arms with the pen on his nightstand. But even that soon took a depressing toll as his scribbles morphed into words. Words he wished he could say to the boy encompassing his thoughts.

When Dick finally noticed it, he froze. Realization crashed over him, and he couldn't stop the hysterical laughter escaping his throat. If anyone heard him, they probably would have thought he'd been hit with Joker gas.

Of all the days for a soulmate connection to form. Of all the days for his soulmate to turn eighteen.

Dick's grown to like J in the year they've been talking. He's witty, with a dry humor that never fails to make Dick laugh. And he cares too. Always making sure Dick eats more than just cereal and protein bars. Which reminds him. Dick grabs some bread and lunch meat and puts them in his shopping cart as he continues making his way around the store. He adds them to the list on his arm, crossing them out so J knows he took his advice.

END NOTE: This fic is probably the most rushed of all my fics so far. I maaaay have procrastinated by making a plushy instead of working in this. But I really wanted to write for today's prompt because I am a sucker for soulmate AUs. I dont have any plans on continuing this, but if anyone else wants to, feel free. Just tag me so I can see!

My original idea for this prompt was much angstier. It was a "you only get your soulmate's name on you when your soulmate dies" au, where Dick makes it to Jason's funeral because he gets his name. (of course then jason comes back but shhhhh)

So i drew some fanart of @pompadorbz sorry boys "still wakes the deep" au ! I had fun with the more action filled drawings, and definetly wanna do more >:P

While drawing, i got to brainstorming about what character roles the boys might take in the story. Like, charlies probably caz, and maybe phil is caz's friend whos a cook (i forgot his name) but then i thought about if characters like Rennick had a coresponding cc, and i immediately thought about schlatt. So, i have ideas about what expanding the au might look like, but this isnt MY au, so for now ill hold off on yapping my ideas and just share what ive drawn for now

But either way, i REALLY enjoy this au and love all the ansgt potential it has. Like i was thinking, who out of the boys would end up being the last one? (Aka, taking caz's place at the end of the story with the lighter) and thought that, out of the boys, it would just make the most sense to be tommy. And thats HORRIBLE, AUGH ITS SO SAD but i LOVE IT

he feels overwhelmingly shy when you're close to him like this — bodies nearly touching as you lean closer to him on the campus shuttle. the football game being held that evening accounted for all of the people on the bus and the unusual proximity you were faced with now, as there were more people than accommodations the shuttle could account for. you murmured an apology as your shoulder knocked into him, and your hand brushed against his, electrifying warmth in contrast to the heatless railing. "we should have left earlier to beat the crowd," you suggested, but as wonwoo watches the softness of your lips shaping the almost conspiratorial commiseration and feels heat creep up the back of his neck, he can't help but think he'd like to be in a thousand cramped busses on a thousand crowded campuses just to be this close to you again, near enough to see the blemishes on your cheeks and the myriad emotions swirling in your eyes.

he cleared his throat, but his voice was still deep in his chest when he spoke. "i don't mind."

the comment was enough to pass his shyness to you, a triumph wonwoo would quietly revel in for the rest of the evening, as the both of you made it to your building, and at the hallway where you would part ways to make it to your respective dorm rooms, said a lingering farewell.

"we're still on for a study date on wednesday, right?"

a date. wonwoo still gets a particular kind of rush from you calling the mutual study sessions the two of you had a date, juvenile as that might sound. the ambiguity of it let him read into it what he would, and he rather liked to think that you enjoyed the vagueness of it, too, and that's why you insisted on calling them such.

"yes, of course. and, umm..." wonwoo wasn't sure what confidence spurned him on, but you took a step closer at his words — reaching back into his personal space just like you had on that campus shuttle, though there was no need for your proximity, now, other than that which you made for yourself. "coffee? after? only if you still want to, then, and it's not too late".

which it would be, of course. the both of your course and work schedules meant you only ever got to study together late in the evening, finishing only when the night came in close to blanket you both in sometime quiet and still. coffee at that hour would be laughable. the only thing more ridiculous than coffee after studying all night would be the impulse to consider asking if he could kiss you, or hold your hand, or listen to you ramble about your course load, or the professor you were warring with, or the every minutia of your life that wouldn't amount to much of anything, in the end, but the feeling that he was collecting little pieces of you that he could hold dear for as long as you'd allow.

but you were smiling something beautiful, the corners of your perfectly transfixing mouth stretching upward, cradling all the joy you were capable of holding as you agreed, "yeah... let's do it. coffee. i'd really like that."
