who is your favorite AA character? 👁️👁️
ziska… I hope capcom brings her back someday
#shes cool as fuck to me bc when I first played jfa I found her really frustrating to deal with#not just as Phoenix but I mean like on a personal level she is challenging because she’s so thorough#and yet I also find it fascinating that she breaks the character she’s built for herself once in a while#i 100% believe that I don’t think she would have caught on to what Phoenix was trying to do while stalling for time with engardes trial#so it’s probably a good thing edgeworth subbed in but she literally busts her ass to bring evidence to court#almost right after having a bullet extracted from her WHICH SHE ALSO PRESENTS AS EVIDENCE. thats metal as fuck ok#especially since she would technically have nothing to do with the case after edgeworth fills in and she still decided to do that anyway#maybe it was blind faith to use that evidence to win since she wasn’t there for most of the trial but still#and even if canon doesn’t give it to me I still firmly believe there’s be at least some chemistry between her and Maya#like especially if you hold it next to wrightworth that works bc there’s already a history there and majority of Phoenix and miles trying#to relearn their relationship is Phoenix coaxing out that side of Miles that he remembers from fourth grade#but with Franmaya it’s something new and they’re basically strangers to each other and one of them almost got the other convicted#and I still think that’s fascinating and it’s a damn shame thay half of the fics I find for them on ao3 is background in wrightworth fic#i did find a good one that touched on Franziska trying to win pearls approval because Pearl does hold a grudge against her#and seeing that trying to live up to perfecting even her personal relationships without getting to know Pearl to even know#why it wasn’t working feels believable when I think abt her as a character yk#myart#my art#doodles#aa#ace attorney#franziska von karma

#I wish more people engaged critically with silcos character#i think he's a very interesting commentary on how capitalism inevitably breeds terrible people#and his relationships with zaun and the people around him are really fascinating#but idk most of the discussion I've seen has been limited to mostly “omg hot” or “pedo/not a pedo” which are valid conversations#but get tiring#ANYWAY SILCO DRAWING#happy new year and i love you all#my art#digital artist#art#artists on tumblr#arcane#silco arcane#young silco#blisters and bedrock

Thinking about how Dani's episode is called Kindred Spirits, which implies that her unique narrative role is to mirror Danny and act as a foil to him, and then the episode is like "Here's some ✨superficial similarities✨. She is now going to leave the plot entirely and be 💖homeless💖"
#danny phantom#text#controversial opinion ahead but...#i think the reason i don't vibe with certain takes on Dani is because a lot of them are like#''yeah she's her own unique person and going by a different name and is definitely not Danny <3''#but then they make her LIVE with him. like??? how is she her own person when she's living exactly the same life as the guy she's based on?#living in the same house with the same parents and the same older sister and the same school and the same town and the same powers??#you could argue that siblings are their own people despite sharing all of those things BUT THEY'RE NOT SIBLINGS. she is his CLONE.#there is inherent thematic baggage there that wouldn't be a factor in a mere sibling dynamic!#i feel like Dani would find it unbelievably stifling and I think it's high key the worst thing that could happen to her character.#even more than being fridged and homeless. because at least then you could fill in those blanks with anything more interesting.#She's at her most effective when she is able to stand on the other side of the fence and mirror Danny.#what makes her fascinating to me is her potential role as a foil. Her similarities to Danny are interesting only when they're#in a different context. Not when she's literally just living his life!#(my dislike of this trope is mostly directed at Butch Hartman because I can't believe a lot of fans actually APPROVE#of his alleged comment that Dani ''Fenton'' would have become canon eventually. Like when did we as a fandom start listening to him?#I took it as an admission he had no plans to do anything meaningful with Dani. She was never intended to b more than an accessory to Danny.#anyway don't mind me. The beauty of fandom is in its diversity of interpretations. i don't mean to yuck anyone's yum!#go forth and use Dani's character how you see fit. she needs more love lol

Been thinking about how Bill legitimately had a horrifying reason (the literal progressive disintegration of the nightmare realm that erases whatever it disintegrates from existence completely) to move himself and his crew into a new dimension. Like that's terrifying. And yet he never utilizes this to his favour. He could have been honest about this with Ford, and you KNOW as long as Bill didn't mention plans of overtaking the earth, Ford would've made the portal for him, both out of Ford's own interest and because Ford when faced with these big moral questions will pull through. But this is a card Bill NEVER plays because although he needs to leave the dimension, he cannot lose face. He can't put aside his pride and admit to the humility that he needs to flee from his dimension, that he's not actually all powerful. And so instead he pretends to be a muse and when Ford figures out something else is going on, instead of being open and humble and saying that his dimension is unravelling, Bill focuses on that he's going to over take earth, that he's actually been a monster all along, surprise Ford!
And part of it is definitely because Bill's built himself up on power and violence and to grovel and earnestly ask for help, to admit that he cannot stop the unraveling of his dimension completely invalidates that; showing vulnerability? Can't do that, even under the guise of lying to get his way. And part of it makes you wonder if it's also a form of self-sabotage, because underneath his deep denial Bill is guilty over what he occurred; he sees himself as a monster and so he'll be that monster, and having people recognize that feels good in the same way that pressing a bruise feels good. But it makes you wonder what would've happened if Bill even just was open about his dimension unravelling and had lied about overtaking the earth.
It's also interesting because although Bill has SOME charisma and can manipulate people decently well (as evidenced by his cult, and pandering to people's desires with Ford, Mabel and Blendin), he refuses to be vulnerable, refuses to not be true to his off-putting self, even when if he was just vulnerable of pretended to not be himself, to put aside the (false) pride he has in himself he would've gotten a portal by now. and part of me wonders if it's because it's this false pride that built on insecurity and denial on who he is he cannot drop that mask.
Further thoughts on this!
#hugin rambles#hugin rambles gf#uhhhh yeah anyways Bills a delightfully complex character#and I think thats why also Bill fell hard for Ford is because Ford was vulnerable with Bill and actually CARED for Bill and got to peer#into the vulnerable bits of Bill and cared for him#but yeah fascinating. rotating him in my head whooo#bill cipher#billford#the book of bill#TBOB#gravity falls#but seriously the idea of Bill becoming honest with Ford instead of being like HAHA I TRICKED YOU bounces around the ol noodle with vigor#like dude thats a HUGELY typical self sabotage thing. like why YES im what people think i am.#hes interesting because hes good at manipulation. but also at the same time bad at it because he refuses to not be himself.#which... yanno i can respect. truth to being yourself even if thats offputting and annoying. but certainly makes it more difficult#re: manipulation. and then there was ford who was just. really into Bill in entirety#congrats! you guys match each others freak and toxic neediness to the t#gravity falls meta

Hit a point where I'm going through the Cullen Critical tag on tumblr cause I really like Cullen, but in a fucked up way and I hate that the writers overlooked some of the more egregious things this guy did (or, more accurately did *not* do) while serving in Kirkwall
Mostly i think im mad that the writers fucked up the chance to take a guy who spent a long time turning a blind eye to and justifying a fucked up system of abuse, and actually have him held accountable for it
Instead of him just. Feeling kind of bad about it but not actually addressing it in a real way?
I mean, dont get me started on how Inquisition fumbled pretty much everything that happened in DA2 (the fact that there's no option for Hawke, Varric, or even the Inquisitor to agree with what Anders did? You can either condemn it or like... waffle around it?), but like. Cullen was actively looking the other way when Mages were getting whipped in the streets, SA'd and fucking lobotomised
The templars turned Kirkwall into a police state by the end of it, and all the writers have him saying is like "man, i feel bad :("
Cant believe im saying this, but Blackwall actually does have a better redemption arc than Cullen
I just
There is gold. Right there
They had a fucked up guy and completely squandered the opportunity to have him SO fucked up about the shit he's done
They still could've had their poor little meow meow of a commander! Just make him so much more fucked up about his mistakes man!
But we already know bioware is full of cowards so im pretty much talking to the wind here
#i just.#i fucking NEED this guy to have a fucking crisis of conscience full-scale breakdown about this#give him a proper penny-drop moment where he clutches his chest#starts muttering to the maker when he realises the full weight of his actions#have the guilt overwhelm him and stop him in his tracks!#have that shit replace the whole lyrium choice!#where he considers falling off the wagon because turning to the lyrium is the only way he think to cope#the Inquisitor is then having to contend with a commander that is wracked with guilt and unable to make decisions#because he cant fucking trust himself to know what is right#and he keeps saying that maybe he should go back to the lyrium because at least he was sure of himself when he was on it#make him difficult! to deal with!#make the Inquisitor have to force him to step down to get his shit together!#maybe even make the Inquisitor have to choose between giving him time or replacing him!#ugh#there are so many tasty opportunities here and all squandered#anyways this fucking mess of a man has been on my mind for a while now#and Anders#but thats a whole other thing#bioware has some fascinating characters in their hands and they dont even know what to do with them#dragon age#cullen rutherford#chantry critical#yelling into the void idk

'helen is so underdevelopped as a character!' 'helen's boring!' stfu u just don't like her bc she's a woc and because she doesn't behave exactly like michael. yall put so much effort into developping michael's character inside your minds and completely look over her because she's 'poorly written.' stop.
#this is kinda a rant but like#it pisses me off when people call her poorly written#she has a more detailed backstory than michael??? what are you talking about#like all we really get from shelley (pre-distortion michael) is that one clip at the end of 99#but we get a WHOLE statement from richardson (pre-distortion helen) and yall CHOOSE to ignore it#like i get the appeal of a tragic backstory vs. being a real estate agent but still#like ur allowed to prefer michael over her#i don't dislike michael by any means#he's tied with helen in my mind in terms of tma characters#but why do people dismiss her so much????#she is NOT poorly written you are covering your eyes (ears?) to avoid admitting her importance to the overall plot#especially to jon's character arc in s5#like their whole dynamic is absolutely fascinating#with jon#anyway rant over.#helen enjoyers wya#helen distortion#helen richardson#helen the distortion#tma the distortion#tma helen#not saying michael is poorly written either btw#they're both well written#im just pissed off at a certain group of people who insist michael is better written when it's literally not

one of the things that I found particularly interesting in Demigods of Olympus is that it finally gives the best direct comparison we've seen so far between Percy and another character's experiences in terms of academics and particularly ableist discrimination.
The way Zane describes his experiences and what we see in his POV is that, while he is similarly discriminated against for his "atypical" behavior and blame is placed on him, the only sorts of punishments he receives for this are relatively benign, such as an increase in counseling. (It is also notable that Zane is somewhat autistic-coded, such as having the "incorrect" scripts when speaking with adults and Sam explicitly reminding him to remember to make proper eye contact.) Percy, on the other hand, similarly experiences discrimination for "atypical" behavior, but whereas Zane is treated as "too smart for his own good" and given slaps on the wrist, Percy is automatically labeled as aggressive, destructive, and a trouble-maker based on preconceived assumptions about him and is more severely punished, such as being frequently expelled.
We rarely get this level of direct comparison between Percy's experiences and that of another character, particularly such similar experiences, so looking at the differences is really interesting to gauge what their different experiences with ableist discrimination is like - and how it could potentially tie into intersectionality and other forms of discrimination at play for them.
For instance, Zane's parents are generally heavily implied to be middle-class and/or generally financially secure, versus Percy who grew up poor, so it could be classism in combination with ableist discrimination. Alternatively, it could be intersectionality with racial discrimination, as neurodivergent behavior in people of color is significantly more likely to be punished more severely and labeled as aggressive or disruptive behavior due to racist preconceptions - particularly since we know Percy's experiences with ableist discrimination are also somewhat based on assumptions people make regarding his appearance. Both Zane and Percy are racially ambiguous - Zane's appearance essentially being completely unspecified, but Percy at least having some notable details such as having a deep tan complexion. If not racism, it could also be colorism, which in this context often has similar intersectionality. There's a lot of potential options.
It's just very interesting to me! I love having such a direct point of comparison to examine the experiences of two characters within.
#pjo#demigods of olympus#riordanverse#percy jackson#zane carver#analysis#disability#adhd#one of my biggest gripes with analysis that i see often in the fandom is people erasing Percy's experiences with ableism#particularly academically and instead electing to frame his experiences as ''only possibly being from [x] - there's no other explanation''#which is really sad to me because it just highlights how little people understand what ableism and ableist discrimination look like#and simply seem unable to process our experiences and stories meant to reflect our experiences#so having another frame of reference to compare Percy's experiences against is REALLY nice and particularly fun for me personally#because it gives an opportunity to highlight both the general disabled experiences Percy faces due to his adhd/dyslexia#but also how that potentially ties in to intersectionality with other demographics he's a part of or may be a part of#because now we have a point of comparison between how two disabled characters are experiencing similar discrimination for the same thing#but there *are* differences between them in specific ways that potentially indicate something occurring in addition to just ableism#which is fascinating! and allows those discussions in the context of intersectionality WITHOUT erasing disabled experiences! yippee!!!#anyways this is mostly off the noggin since ive just been rotating the thought for a couple of days#chewing on this chewing on it chewing on it

why does so much of mel discourse on this site centre on to what measure she did or did not manipulate jayce like that's the extent of her complexity and grey morality, as if she has not directly and indirectly been contributing to the opression of zaun not because she's prejudiced or hates them but simply because she profits from it, like i am so sorry my queen that they don't get you like i get you
#arcane#mel medarda#ella originals#in fact i do think it's soooo interesting that mel being an immigrant didn't really grow up with the ingrained prejudice like most piltovan#(it's cait's lines in her first ever scene--she's not at all malicious it's just a part of her worldview that the undercity is dangerous)#(and that's not something she ever grows out of which is such a huge fail for the show but that's a discussion for another time)#mel doesn't hate zaunites or anything she just doesn't care#she is a kind and compassionate person but all that is hyperfocused on directly opposing her mother's violent imperialism#and not in the sense of well the price in blood to be extracted for our advancement is too much and not worth it#but the advancement--progress if you will--can be accomplished through avenues other than violent imperialism and expansionism so it's fine#and it doesn't matter to her that those other means are just as bloody and that it's very much NOT FINE#it's such a fascinating contradiction and a blind spot and i am SO ANGRY s2 made her a wizard instead of exploring it#a zaunite revolution could have had her whole world collapsing around her#WE WERE ON OUR WAY#IT WAS ALREADY HAPPENING WITH THE BRIDGE MASSACRE THAT'S WHY SHE ORIGINALLY SUPPORTED ZAUNITE INDEPENDENCE#because the blood she's been spilling finally came to flood her door too and she had to face the fact that she was not so different from he#mother at all that's why she took off her ring before she cast her vote#and we could've gone so much further with that i wanted to see everything this woman believed she knew about herself collapse around her#i wanted DRAMA and EXPLORATION and CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT#anyway this got away from me but my point was i see so many people acting as if the reason mel's morally grey is bc she manipulated jayce#as if she's not actively profiting off of violent oppression of zaunites#in case it was somehow unclear none of this is me being anti-mel i adore my queen with all my heart

It actually makes me sick how good some of the Green Lanterns’ rogue gallery is. Here’s a fascist dictator who criticizes the way the Guardians run things but acts exactly like them down to the unilateral leadership; he represents the worst of cops, but sometimes his iffy methods at least seem to be genuinely more effective than the Green Lanterns’, which force them to have moral conundrums about the way they do things. Here’s a victim of genocide who has been sucked into the cycle of violence and shows that being a victim doesn’t inoculate you against being an abuser, and he has a cat whom he loves very much. And here, before the Guardians created the Corps to police the universe, they first created a bunch of androids who believe that emotions are the root of evil, and despite them committing mass genocide, the Guardians still believed that emotions get in the way of everything (the raging hypocrites). Here is the embodiment of Death itself, and the only way to defeat him is to have the entire emotional spectrum working together, and despite all of their flaws and rivalries and sordid history, emotions come together to make Life.

we don’t acknowledge enough how dee used to be a pageant winner when she was a kid and how much damage it did to her. she worked her ass off and got recognition for being pretty and talented at a young age and it was the only source of self esteem she could garner in a family that constantly berated and talked down to her. she sought after that external approval because it was the only way she could prove everyone around her wrong. her dream of being a performer didn’t come from a self-aggrandizing delusion— she genuinely showed a lot of potential when she was younger. but she went through an unflattering puberty and her spinal condition got worse and that natural talent she had as a kid plateaued way too early. the “former gifted kid” dilemma. she slowly lost the thing that promised her that she was good, but she was so desperate to keep holding onto it that she tried anyway. again and again and again no matter how much people made fun of her because it was always about proving them wrong. but after a while she couldn’t jump anymore without anticipating the way it feels when she hits the ground face first. self-sabotage became her way out, choosing to rather live in the fantasy of her own unrealized potential and blaming those around her for her lack of success, than having tried and crashed again. she’d rather buy lottery tickets over and over and never scratch off the numbers than to see that she lost. that self-sabotaging behavior bled into other aspects of her life too, from friendships to relationships to therapy. her own short lived success is what made her grow into embodying the cycle of failure.
#iasip#dee reynolds#oh deandra#someone tell her she’s good#this may very well be a diary entry vaguely disguised as character analysis but lets move past that#also doesn’t not help at all that im going through my own dennis and dee go on welfare unemployment plotline irl#BUT LETS MOVE PAST THAT#she’s such a fascinating character i really hope they explore her more in s17 bc she’s been like. a side character for the past few seasons#another thing i regret not telling charlie when i had the chance ugh#i wanted to be lighthearted and complain about the promo pics being ugly but when i opened with ‘#‘can i air out some grievances’ he was so open to it and actually seemed kind of disappointed that i WASNT talking about the writing#and it was like. in no universe could i have possibly been prepared to have an in depth convo ab the show with him at that loud ass bar#or like. expected him to be open to WRITING CRITICISM of all things#there’s so much i could have aired out. Suddenly remembered something I wanted to say re:Akechi, because I think it's really core to his character (at least the way I interpreted him?) and I feel like it explains a lot of his contradictions. Essentially, he is incapable of seeing himself as just a person - he's either the greatest hero/detective ever, or he's some violent monster, and it's like there's no in-between. It's very in keeping with his obvious superiority-inferiority complex, but it goes deeper than that too; when he's in a role, it seems like his self-perception kind of changes too depending on how he is perceived by others. He really does get a confidence boost from being the Detective Prince. He really does shut down emotionally as the Black Mask.
They're masks that he's made, and it's not that aspects of them aren't based in truth to some extent, but I think it goes to show why he's not actually that fantastic a liar (imo, I found the outright lies pretty obvious), but he is a very good actor. He's either an angel or a demon, and never a person, but there are conditions to that. He is an angel when he is perfect - to society. He is a demon when he is vengeful - again, to society. He is never a person, because he never was seen as one - to society. He was disregarded. To be anything of value or notoriety, whether that's hero or villain, he has to be wildly more or less than who he actually is, and he's been building these masks up for so long that I really think he lost sight of the actual person behind it all. And I don't think he wanted to see that person anyways, because that person "wasn't good enough" and I do think he'd rather be anything other than himself. That trickery, that deflection from the person within, in itself brings him pride and satisfaction. He wants to be loved and needed instead of being cast aside, but I also think that if he can't have that then he'd much rather be hated than never have mattered at all. He weaponizes his own loneliness - if he can't ever be accepted then he'll build his own pedestal apart from everyone else.
It's so fascinating too, because I just wonder how much of this he was consciously aware of pre, during, and post engine room. There's this recurring thing with him where he goes "I can only be myself" etc but I just want to shake him because, well, who is that, Akechi??? Or, who do you think that is? Do you actually have an answer? Is it predicated on your actual feelings or solely on your success at fooling everyone around you? Is there any part of you that you actually like that isn't based on a painstakingly constructed mask? Isn't it all mostly lies to deflect from the truth? Isn't it all founded mostly on truth, nonetheless?
It drives me insane. And I think this is a big reason why he breaks so hard in the engine room, because so much of his mask requires his "audience" to perform in a particular way. And here he is, and the Thieves have beaten him, so there goes the first mask, because he's no longer "perfect". He swings wildly into the ugliest sides of him, but this mask is broken too, amidst him vehemently and desperately denying that he has any other emotions than hatred and rage, or any other needs or desires than vengeance. And after that, it's just him. And they should reject him, right? That's what happens. He's not useful, he's not needed or perfect, his hands are stained with blood. But the Thieves, again, don't play the role he expects them to. They, despite everything, relate to him - because he is in fact very similar in a lot of ways and they acknowledge him as a person - not a hero, or idol, or villain, or tool, or unwanted child - but as a damaged teen like the rest of them. And he does not know what to do with that. His identity is intrinsically dependent on getting the right reactions from other people as a form of ingratiating himself - if he does not get that reciprocal reaction he's looking for, his act falters, and, I really do believe that so does his self-perception. That's why you see different aspects of him seep out when he's spending time with Joker, because Joker does not react the way he expects, and Akechi both does and does not like this, because it leaves him feeling both intrigued and vulnerable.
I do think this particular aspect of his character is something a lot of the Thieves don't fully grasp - certainly, I think Joker "I need the mask" Persona 5 understands to a degree, but the sheer degree of reliance and the level of pride attached to it is something that confuses him a little, I think, especially in Mementos Mission. I think the thief that comes closest is actually Morgana, who has a similar superiority-inferiority complex and a desperate need to be seen as competent and useful lest he be discarded. (This is a big part of why the rather lackluster writing with Morgana's arc frustrates me so much because I really do feel it was meant to be contrasted with Akechi's, but I digress.) Morgana is the one to make that emotional appeal to Akechi, which makes a degree of sense - Morgana struggled all along with finding a place in the world. His form leads others to underestimate him; he visually doesn't fit in. He's acting out the role of a chivalrous and cool phantom thief but is more pragmatic with how he views relationships, at least at first. He wants a place to belong where he is appreciated more than anything but his pride won't let him spit it out. Accepting that he belongs and that he is loved even if he really did have nothing of value to provide is a big part of the resolution of his arc. He tries to offer that learned lesson to Akechi in turn ("Follow your true feelings. Even if you think people hate you, or don't want you around-"), but Akechi just wasn't in the right space to listen. There's also an important distinction between the two - Morgana envies humans and looks up to them. Akechi envies humans and looks down on them. Morgana is perfectly happy once he is assured a place amongst the group, but Akechi see-saws wildly between wanting to belong and wanting to be a step above the rest and separating himself further. So while Morgana actually really did cut to the core of the issue, his appeal would never have worked at this point because a) Akechi's pride is dependent on him maintaining his solo act, and b) he just got outed as not actually hating Joker in front of seven other people including Joker himself lmao.
So, uh, sorry, Morgana. Points for trying.
#oh no this got long again hfdsjfshbf#anyways i do have more akechi thoughts wrt parallels with other characters but i think i should stop bc i keep talking about him#and it's probably annoying#also i should probably wait to see what he's like in third semester because it seems like he's taking a lead role here#and he's definitely changed so i'm curious to see who he is now#storyrambles#does this even make sense. idk.#what a fascinating character. i can't stand him. i hope he gets lovingly dunked on for the rest of time.#story plays persona 5#p5r#goro akechi#p5 meta#p5 morgana#call me ace detective the way i am ace. and also a detective.#<-i feel the need to clarify on any post involving akechi that this is my standard analysis tag that has nothing to do with him#i am not a kinnie i don't think i could take that

i love when people post examples of bad or silly mountain goats lines and it’s something i think is legitimately interesting and multilayered.
#it happens so much it’s really funny#he has so many legitimately goofy lyrics and some bad ones here and there#but people mainly just pick ones that sound goofy out of context even if they make sense and work well in context#this is a REALLY obvious vague and i’m so sorry - truly no offense to the person who just posted#i swear this has happened to me like three times in the past few months - this is meant as a general observation#and different tastes and interpretations are also a thing#but for those interested: i’ve always thought that ‘you can’t judge us / you’re not the judge’ was really good#bc there’s the double-meaning of a literal judge who the characters could face and God as a spiritual judge#but the way it directly addresses the song’s audience is also really Something#like. here we are listening to this song in morbid fascination and the narrator is like. no actually. you have no right to pass judgment#obviously out of context it sounds ridiculous but in context it’s gutting - for me anyway#i can’t listen to transcendental youth regularly bc it’s too depressing for me but it’s gooooooood#the mountain goats#tmg
