So much of who Yukio is stems from his self-hatred.

He wants to be an exorcist because he hates how weak he is. A lot of the contempt he holds for his brother derives from a desire to be like Rin, and not like himself. The way he remembers his own childhood is distorted by his self-hatred, as he struggles to focus on memories where he isn't inadequate.

I think the reason he hates who he was as a child is because he’s associated all of his worst traits to "Pre-Exorcist Training" Yukio, where he felt truly helpless and unable to do anything about his fear. Becoming an exorcist kind of gave him a sense of power? By learning about what he’s afraid of and how to deal with it, he now has control. At least, I think that was the idea behind it. What he doesn’t understand (and what Shirou probably didn’t consider when he gave his baby a gun) is that he’s not really overcoming his fear of demons. He’s just compensating for it, and clinging tight to any source of control he can get. Deep down, the fear remains; he still feels helpless, with a whole bunch of terrible coping mechanisms as a bonus.

(I also think this is one of the reasons he has such violent reactions to losing control, specifically towards his own body, like when he stabbed his arm to prevent himself from panicking in the Kyoto Arc.)

And he gets worse, because as he reasses the goals he had when he was a child (partly due to Toudou’s influence), he can only focus on all the ways they are selfish. A seven year old becoming an exorcist because he wants to be stronger only reinforces Yukio’s self-hatred, because it’s a self-oriented goal. Rin wants to be an exorcist so no one has to die for him like Shirou did. Shiemi wants to be an exorcist so she can protect others the way they’ve protected her. Bon wants revenge for the Blue Night and how it affected his family, and on and on and on. Yukio is surrounded by people who have experienced incredible pain, but focus on those around them. More and more, Yukio is seeing himself as the outlier, whose selfishness only serves to build upon itself. As he says, “I’m so obsessed with myself I can’t see anyone else!”

And like, that’s why I think the line “I’m strong because I had you!” holds so much weight, for both Rin and Yukio. For Yukio, it’s a realization that he loves his brother more than he hates himself, you know? He didn’t just want to be strong so he could surpass his brother. He wanted to be strong for his brother, and was inspired by him. It was that love that pushed him forward, and it’s that love that allows him to heal, a little bit.

This is best shown in the flashback he has later in Chapter 130 when they’re getting ready to square up with Satan. Earlier, I said that Yukio’s memories are distorted by self-hatred. Here, in this scene, we see a memory free of that bias, where Yukio, once shaking in fear, takes Rin’s hand. Yukio is brave, and able to overcome his fears with support, it just took him awhile to realize this.

Therefore, even though so much of Yukio is built upon hatred, he’s slowly recognizing just how much he loves and has loved.

the fact that mini durin is just a confused and scared child who was responding reasonably to prejudice against it that it didn't know the cause of is giving me soooo many feelings because it really hammers in how Real durin was like that too. just a confused and scared child who was causing damage without realising it and just wanted to be friends with humanity but it was shunned and eventually slain because in the real world you can't just use magic and feelings to make someone's wish come true.

I get the impression from your posts that you don’t think there’s a future where Zelda would end up queen of hyrule (I can see where her becoming queen would undermine her entire arc of getting freedom from the painful expectations of princess/chosen etc), but how do you think that hyrules government will work beyond that? Is the population recovered enough for that to even be something established within their lifetime?

honestly, based on what we see in other games, hyrule was never REALLY a proper monarchy. I think it's pretty likely that the hylian monarchy was functionally a symbolic one, especially by the time that botw rolls around. in most games in the franchise, hyrule is largely made up of sort of mini single-race societies that function by defaulting to whatever small tribal government they happen to have. With a kingdom technically made up of multiple different species, each with their own differing cultures, customs, and even lifespans, it makes much more sense to have small governments united in name alone. i think any genuine attempt at true united government of such widely varied and relatively isolated races would not end well for hyrule (can you imagine being a hundred-year-old zora and being told that you have to listen to laws made by hylians who have been alive for a fraction of the time you have?? no way.) But by having a technical alliance under the symbolic hyrulian royal family, all of these races reap the benefits of alliance amongst each other while maintaining their relative independance. This is why most of the villages in hyrule are race-isolated and have their own governing bodies--the zora have a king, the rito, gorons, and gerudo have chiefs, and several of the hylian/sheikah villages have mayors or other governing bodies. these are the actual, functional governments of hyrule. the royal family serves both symbolic and practical purposes as a symbol of the kingdom's allyship and as an entity that can build, maintain, and direct a widespread military force (and i think there's also definitely a religious element to their rule over hyrule, as literal descendants of god in-universe,) but other than that it isn't doing a whole lot of actual governing. (the exception to this rule is MAYBE post-wind-waker on the new continent, and maybe immediately post-sksw, specifically because in both those cases the hyrulian royals would have needed to take a more active governing role in order to rebuild the country.) so with that in mind, I think botw and totk make it pretty clear that this method of small government works pretty well for hyrule. I think the most zelda would EVER be is a sort of ambassador between villages and races, especially as hyrule becomes more intermingled in the aftermath of the calamity. small democratic government largely appears to be working for hyrule and for zelda in totk, so i think that's the road she would choose to continue down rather than attempting to reinstate a monarchy that never actually did that much in the first place.

so there's this maaaagic thing called an active scene change... that directors can literally just make up. because it's theater and no production is ever the same.

when kath and jack are coming down from the penthouse (however that looks, three stories, one tall plat, etc) they Physically run into davey during the music vamp/scene change. davey goes to come at jack, kath gets between them, explains the plan. jack can look stressed and awful and so fucking sorry. ideal world he falls into davey's arms while davey looks at katherine, bewildered. bc the thing that needs to come across is that jack was scared. sell that, make it clear the Three of them have a plan, move on.

and then after, i think the hoe-down line needs to STOP BEING SO FAR FROM JACK. fuck that. livesies got one thing right and it was that staircase Look. jack & davey should have this exchange while dave's coming down the stairs, not when he's just entering the scene, so that we have more of a like:

DAVEY stops JACK at the base of the stairs. DAVEY: Hey. JACK: Hm? DAVEY: (His hands behind his back) It's... good. To have you back again. JACK: Yeah? ...Shut up.

i think it has to be very clear that davey is making a choice and deciding right then that yeah, okay, it is good to have him back, but he better stay in line. it's good-natured but with davey's air of 'hmph!' and i think jack's visual relief before brushing it off can loosen davey adequately for the rest of the show- but that means jack CANNOT JUST brush it off. i hate that. we can only have that if we had a whole scene of reconciliation.

but yeah basically the reconciliation doesn't even need a whole scene. it can just be such an easy visual to add in, and it requires no words, and like... to the point where im like. why the Fuck have literally no productions ive seen boots of (local and profesisonal) done this. it's so easy actually. just show them talking and someone's hand on someone's shoulder. maybe the vamp is shorter than i remember but THEN JSUT- JUST VAMP THEN WTF

Getting this out of my brain before this evening, so here's how the teams are looking right now as of Day 1:

Green People are the ones who were present for the event (or logged on recently), and although they don't stream as often as some of the others (- Pac), there is some hope of them logging in more often for the duration of it.

Orange People are the ones who were present for the event (or logged on recently), but they haven't been on for a while or have some special lore going on.

Red People were the ones absent for the event, and have been absent for a while now in general.

(Disclaimer: this is my own analysis, I don't watch that many POVs so some of these might be a miss!)

I wanted to get it out here to explain my thinking, with how many active members each team has (active as in, they log on rather regularly): 8 on Green, 8* on Blue, and then 5 people on Red.

*I counted Pac and Missa here since Missa has been getting on more lately, and Pac will probably be back soon (?)

Now I'm not saying picking one person off Green and one person off Blue and adding them to Red would even out the teams, but...
