A/N The part 2 to Matchmaker! Thanks for all the love on the last part!
————
It had been three days since you had given Spencer your phone number. You also hadn’t seen him in three days you gave it to him on a Friday and on Monday Maggie wasn’t in school.
The stomach bug had been going around, so you hoped it was all that was wrong with her, but you were starting to lose hope of Spencer asking you out.
You were on your lunch break, sitting in your classroom, planning tomorrow’s lesson when your phone started ringing.
You didn’t recognize the number but picked up anyway hoping you would hear the person you were hoping it was on the other line.
“Hello? Y/N?”
You sighed in relief.
“Hi Spencer.” You said.
“Hi, I was just calling to say that if you’d still like to, tomorrow night I’m free for dinner.” Spencer said.
You smiled. “Sure. What time tomorrow?”
“I’ll pick you up around 6.”
You quickly gave him your address before he said that he had to go. As soon as he hung up, you did a little happy dance around your classroom.
-
“Why do I have to go to Uncle Matt’s for dinner?” Maggie asked from place in the backseat.
“Because I’m going to dinner somewhere else. But I promise that tomorrow night I’ll make it up to you. We’ll play games and I’ll let you watch a movie.” Spencer said.
That didn’t seem to lighten Maggie’s mood.
“Are you going to Uncle Dave’s for dinner again? ‘Cause last time you said that when you ate there again I could go and Auntie JJ was going to bring Henry and Micheal.” Maggie said, wrapping her arms around Lily.
“I’m not going there. I’ll tell you about it when I get back. And you’ll have fun tonight.” Spencer said.
After dropping Maggie off at Matt’s house he took and deep breathe and started off twoards your apartment building.
-
You hadn’t been on a first date in a while and you were very, very, nervous. You didn’t know how formal the place you were going was, but you didn’t want to be over dressed.
You settled on a simple black dress that ended right above your knees. You were pacing by your front door when the knock came.
You opened the door right away and smiled at the sight of Spencer. He was holding a small bouquet of flowers and smiled at the sight of you.
“I didn’t know what kind of flowers you liked so I just got an assorted bunch.” He said, handing you the bouquet.
“Thanks. These are perfect. Just let me put these in water.” You said, leaving the door open as you stepped into the kitchen. You quickly filled a vase and then left with Spencer.
A few minutes later you pulled up outside a small restaurant. After you two were seated and ordered your drinks you turned to each other.
“I’m so glad you agreed to go out with me tonight.” Spencer said. He seemed very nervous.
“I’m glad you asked me.” You said.
“To be honest, after Maggie said all those things I was planning on running of there and never showing my face to you again. Luckily, Maggie left Lily at her desk. Which is odd, because Maggie never forgets Lily anywhere.” Spencer said.
The two of you both turned your heads.
“Do you think-“ You said right as Spencer said “I wonder if she-“
You both stopped and laughed, and then shook your heads.
“Maggie is very wonderful to have in class though. Easily one of the smartest students. And she always talks to fondly of you. And all her aunts and uncles, which she has a lot of.” You said.
“I work with a small group of people and we’re basically a family. All their kids call me ‘Uncle Spencer’ so it was only natural. So it’s Tara, Penelope, JJ, Emily, Luke, Matt, Dave, and Derek and Hotch, who I don’t work with anymore.”
“It must be so great to have so many people to help you out.”
There was a pause in the conversation as the waiter returned with your drinks and you ordered your food.
“If you don’t mind me asking...what happened to Maggie’s mother?” You asked after a moment.
Spencer sighed and took a sip of his drink before answering.
“We hadn’t been together very long when she got pregnant with Maggie. We originally planned to raise her together, she even named her Margaret after Magaret Hamilton, who wrote the code that helped the moon landing. But one day when Maggie was five months old I came home and she was gone. She left me with Maggie.” Spencer said.
“That’s awful, Spencer, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have asked.” You said.
“No, no, it’s alright. It has been 6 years. They’ve been a little rough, but it’s getting better.”
A comfortable silence came over the table.
“So why first grade?” Spencer asked after a moment.
“When I was in first grade I had the worst teacher ever.” You started.
Spencer chuckled a little.
“I don’t want to be mean, but it’s true. I hated first grade because of her. So I decided that I wanted to teach first grade so no one would ever have that experience again.” You said.
Spencer smiled. “Well, you’re doing a great job. Everyday Maggie comes home and tells me all the fun things she did at school. And I’ve never seen anyone able to get her out of her shell like you have.”
The two of you continued to talk into the night and when he dropped you off at home, your heart felt more full than it had in a long time.
-
Spencer carried Maggie into her bedroom from the car. When he had picked her up at Matt’s she had been fast asleep, and has slept the whole way home.
“I know who you were at dinner with.” Maggie mumbled.
Spencer laid her down on her bed and took her shoes off.
“Who?” Spencer asked quietly, brushing the hair off Maggie’s head.
“Miss Y/L/N. You were smiling like you do around her when he dropped me off.” Maggie mumbled before yawning.
“Go to bed. It’s late and you have school tomorrow.” Spencer said.
“I’m right though.” Maggie said.
Spencer smiled. “Yes you are. Now go to sleep.”
-
“All right students!”
It was the next day and you were still happy from last night.
“Today I have a very special project. Since we have been learning about mail, we are going to do a project where we write a letter to somebody. It can be to a friend, your parents, whoever.”
You grabbed the paper and envelopes and passed them around to all your students.
“And for homework tonight, go home and tell your parents what you’ve learned about writing letters and then ask them to write a letter. If want you can bring back the letter your parent wrote and share it with somebody.”
-
The next day you were sitting at your desk while your students were at recess.
You had gotten three letters from your letter assignment for parents. The first two talked about how great of a teacher you were, and how much their children loved having you as a teacher.
You smiled and then turned to the third letter.
Dear Miss Y/L/N,
You are a wonderful teacher and lovely person to talk to. Thank you for all you’ve done for Maggie this year so far. I can tell that your work has only just begun.
I couldn’t have hoped for a better teacher for her. And of course, our dinner was an added plus.
With love,
Spencer
P.S I would love to have another dinner with you sometime.
You clutched the letter to your chest and smiled. You were definitely going to have to send a note home with Maggie tonight.
I was thinking maybe a part 3 but I’m not sure

11. Waiting P.1
“Philemon seems to enjoy seeing his Wild Cards live on with their lives…”

Persona 4 Golden X FeMC!Reader
4/25/MON-Evening | Dojima Residence
"Do you even know what you're doing?"
You pay no heed to the incorporeal being as you scored the meat with the knife. The residence doesn't have a lot of cook books, probably because of Dojima's absence and Nanako's proficiency based on eggs, so you decided to wing this recipe and hope for the best.
It wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for the being criticizing the ingredients and your methods.
"This meat isn't full. I've seen pork plumper than this."
"What is this sauce? Why does it taste so sweet?"
"What is this metal contraption that produces fire?"
The grip on your knife only worsened and you were thankful that your hands were free of marinade. The sounds of the TV droned on, reminding you that Nanako is there, sitting attentively and listening to her surroundings.
With a sigh through your nose, you placed the lunch inside the box in an ordered fashion. The ginger pork on the steamed rice was placed in a way the sauce wouldn't be marred as diced spring onions were sprinkled nicely on the pork. In two cup dividers were cherry tomatoes and leftover potato salad. It wasn't like the tonkatsu that you made before but you feel like you've perfected this recipe.
"Success...!" You congratulated yourself. The dish turned out perfectly!
Izanami hummed beside you, looking over at the lunch. "It looks... Adequate."
You let out a tired groan, something that was noticed by Nanako as she began to question what was wrong.
4/26/TUE-Lunchtime | Classroom
Once the teacher dismissed the class for lunch, you sighed as you patted yourself on the back once more for answering for your friends. It was definitely more painful to have Jiraiya and Tomoe argue over the class's heads as Izanami tried to diffuse the situation. It would've been comical if it wasn't for the fact that you had to focus on the lesson and maintain your grades.
You took out your lunch from your bag and looked around. Yosuke was chatting with one of his friends, Chie was busy trying to discreetly teach Tomoe the basic ethics of today. Maybe you should invite one of them for lunch.
A small shriek broke your trail of thought. You turned your head to see Chie cupping her face in her hands as Tomoe tilted her head to the side. From behind you, Jiraiya laughed at the girl's embarrassment as Yosuke groaned at all three of them.
You remember Kou and Akane from music club and you wondered if they were available.
4/28/THU-After School | Chinese Diner Aiya
You remember going to this restaurant with Daisuke yesterday to talk about Kou and ever since, you’ve wanted to try the Rainy Day Mega Beef Bowl Challenge.
The diner was bustling as usual, the exception were the sounds of defeat of people who fell victim to the 3,000 Yen toll and with the few who triumphed over the well-seasoned meat and pounds of rice. Beside you, sitting on a stool, was Izanami, who watched the old man behind the counter yell orders above the noise.
“Chinese...” Izanami started. “I’ve forgotten the taste of baos that my husband would get me.”
You raised your eyebrow. “You have a husband?”
She nodded, though it seemed like she was unsure. “I... think so. I remember somebody whom I was close to...”
You racked your brain on your Shinto beliefs. With the spare time you had, you picked up the myths about the gods since it seemed important to know who was your partner. Before you could say something, a waiter slammed a giant bowl in front of you.
The legendary beef bowl definitely lived up to its name. The mounds of beef seemed to be endless, the mouth-watering seasoned meat suddenly made you sick. And then you remembered that there was rice underneath the protein hell pile.
You and Izanami blinked owlishly at the beef bowl, the noises in and out of the diner droned to a silent static as you seem to cower at the sight of the king of beef bowls.
This feat will be remembered through eternity.
“Izanami,” you whispered to her as you picked up your chopsticks, “make sure this lives on in the history books.”
You didn’t need to look at her to see her nod solemnly. “You will be remembered as a hero.”
You could feel the dread that the beef bowl gives but it doesn’t stop you from separating your sticks and thank the Aiya for this challenge.
> ...
“The beef bowl...” Izanami gasped. “It feels as though it’s taunting you!”
Her words fell deaf as your stomach bulged from the meat. That’s right. Just meat. You couldn’t even make it to the rice as the mountain of meat defeated your over-confidence. Still, despite the grueling defeat, you seemed to have a deeper understanding on how the beef bowl seems to be, the strategy to win the challenge has been embedded in your knowledge, and your diligence paid off to skim off most of the meat.
“Aiyaaa!” The owner drawled out. “Looks like you failed the challenge! Too bad. That’ll be 3,000 Yen.”
You scowled at the man then the beef bowl. At least the materials you sold to Daidara covered your expenses.
4/29/FRI-Evening | Dojima Residence
“Due to the weekend rainfall, clear skies seem unlikely in the area.”
The reporter continued with the weather as you watched it intently. Izanami sat beside you, Nanako opposite of you in front of the table as Dojima relaxed on the couch. A steaming mug of hot chocolate was in your hands, as you refused to eat anything since you were still full from the beef bowl. You were proud to say that you’ve reached a bit of rice as you felt your stats increase.
“A thick fog is expected tonight and remain until tomorrow morning, with heaviest concentration in the Inaba area. Anyone planning to go out tonight should take care. Now for our hourly weather breakdown...”
“More fog, huh...?” Dojima sighed. “There’s been a lot of that lately. Hopefully it’s not a sign of more trouble.”
You didn’t even need to turn around to see his eyes droop in exhaustion. You focused back on the TV only to notice Nanako holding the remote in her hands and switching the channel.
“Ah-ah-ah.” Dojima tutted. “What did I say about changing the channel without asking?”
Before she could even respond, the TV droned about Junes and it being open for Golden Week. Immediately, Nanako perked up at the commercial, singing the theme song as she seemed excited about the establishment.
Izanami chuckled at her enthusiasm. “She’s so precious.”
“Dad!” Nanako exclaimed. “They’re going to be open during Golden Week!”
He laughed a little. “I heard. Do you want to go somewhere during the long holiday?”
Nanako’s eyes widened as she stood up “We can go somewhere?!”
He smiled at his daughter’s enthusiasm, then turned his head to you. “How about it? Got any plans yet?”
You took a cursory glance at Izanami as she nodded her head eagerly. You nodded at the man. “No plans yet.”
“Then let’s all go together somewhere!” Nanako cheered. “Junes! Junes Junes Junes!”
You giggled at her. You haven’t seen her this happy at all lately.
However, Dojima sighed. “You’re sure you want to go Junes? We can go there anytime...”
“Let her have her fun.” You said. “Not like we can spend all Golden Week in the store.”
“Alright alright...” He relented. “Anyway, time for bed. It’s late.”
Nanako’s smile was wiped off her face when she heard that, but she immediately sprung back to life by singing the Junes theme song.
After Nanako went to bed as you bade Dojima a good night, you changed into your pajamas and went up to your room. You pulled back the curtain and looked out the window. The fog rolled in, making you barely see anything.
“The fog settled in fast.” Izanami remarked. “I know we saved Yukiko but I wonder about what will show tonight.”
You drew back the curtain, staring at the TV with a nervous expression. “Probably nothing, but we can’t be too sure.”
You sat back down on the sofa next to Izanami, heaving out a sigh at the events that happened in the castle. “Yukiko is coming back to school tomorrow so we can ask her about how she even got in there.”
Izanami watched your relaxed expression, turning her head to the TV, then turning her head back to you. “What do you think of what her Persona will be?”
You shrugged lazily. “I don’t know, but I do know that we have to show her the ropes when we have free time.”
“You don’t have to stress yourself over this.” She said softly. “There’s always time for that, you’re still young after all. There’s no shame in backing down.”
You stared at Izanami’s yellow eyes, wondering where that caring attitude came from. You... really don’t know how to respond to that.
Before you could even reply something, the TV turned on by itself. The static noises permeated the room but the screen showed nothing. Then, the TV went silent.
“Well, guess that’s that.” You said, standing up from your sitting position. You, frankly, didn’t want to talk more about the awkward self-care so you dragged yourself to your already made futon and lied down. “Night, Izanami.”
Your Persona didn’t even try to bring back the previous conversation, which you were thankful for. She sighed before settling herself on the sofa. “Night, _____.”
Persona Time
| Amagi Inn |
In the personal room of Yukiko inside the Amagi Inn, the 2nd-year girl stirred in her futon before opening her eyes to the sunlight. She let out a tired groan, feeling like her body went on a triathlon but her mind went through the bar exam. All that training didn’t seem to prepare her for the soreness in her muscles and she didn’t even do anything in the television except watch as her friends get burned.
“I should apologize for causing so much trouble...” She murmured to herself, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
“O-Oh!” A meek voice gasped in surprise. “Y-You’re awake! Thank g-goodness!”
The voice immediately made Yukiko’s eyes snap open as she sat up and whipped her head to the source of the voice. When her eyes landed on a whole mess of pink, she stiffened.

Grey Area, Part 1
Description: A look into the Chill Out AU’s past, in which we see what molded a villain. An intermission to the Chill Out continuity, taking place about fifteen years prior to the AU’s events.
Once again, this is gijinka/anthro universe, and it uses a few headcanons.
I would’ve posted the whole thing at once, but Tumblr’s 100 paragraph limit severely dampers that plan, I guess. Part 2 needed edits anyway, and it should be up by Thursday.
Part 2 of Feeling Blue should be up by Saturday... maybe.
“And so, after the return of the great Treeangle, peace returned to our little Paradise, although one scar from the calamity remained.”
Paradise Middle School was, once again, having its infamous Treeangle Appreciation unit. And as always, Logic Gatekeeper’s eight grade classroom was the center of it all.
Logic rattled on, “Today we remember the event in fear of the treacherous pinks, although it may shock you to learn that some of the peaceful pink shapes remain alive today.”
Fresh could barely keep his eyes open as he listened to the teacher drone on. He, along with every other student in Mrs. Logic’s classroom had long since learned the story of the Treeangle… many, many times before.
In fact, Fresh recalled, glancing out the window, the room had a pretty clear view of the mystic structure, which cast a hauntingly tranquil light upon its surroundings. The sight only did more to ease the young shape’s nerves, slowly lulling him to sleep.
His eyes slid shut, and his head hit the desk with an audible thump!
The impact did little to awaken him; a running joke among his peers was that he was quite thick-skulled, both in the literal and metaphorical sense. He could pull the strings of a practical joke and form the perfect plot, but common sense tended to fly right over his head.
“Dude,” the kid sitting next to him lightly prodded him on the arm, and he mumbled incoherently, trying to tell them to leave him alone. The other student ignored his muttered plea, using their fortunately blunt pencil to jab him in the side repeatedly, like an annoying woodpecker. “Do you wanna fail this class? We have a test over this junk tomorrow.”
Fresh grumbled, finally cracking an eye open. He sat up, looking around blearily for the shape that had disturbed his momentary rest. He turned to face his tormentor just as they reached to jab him in the side again, reaching to snatch the pencil from their grasp.
Before he even bothered to meet the kid’s gaze, the irritable preteen snapped the writing utensil in half, letting the two splintered pieces clatter to the linoleum floor. Eyes half-lidded, he then looked up at the other shape.
The other student was a red circle with squarish, dark eyes and glasses that looked like they belonged in the 90s. They smiled just a bit too widely for someone who’d seemed irritated just moments before, and when they removed their glasses, Fresh could see bright sparks in their gaze ignite every few seconds.
The shape introduced themselves with a muted chuckle, “The name’s Zone.”
Fresh averted his gaze, hissing, “I don’t think I asked, kid.”
“Heh, rude.” Zone laughed again, reaching down to pick up the fragments of their pencil. Fiddling with the two pieces, he hummed, “According to Logic Gatekeeper, only pink shapes are supposed to be so mean.”
At that moment, Fresh’s eyes widened, and he turned around to face the board again, pretending to pay attention to the lesson if only to block out Zone.
Scrawled with too-enthusiastic detail on the blackboard was a detailed diagram of the Treeangle. Several “interesting” facts had been added around it as an afterthought, although Fresh presumed that Mrs. Logic would’ve been happy to write a whole book on the subject if given the time.
The instructor’s triangular eyes lit up as she sang, “Now... onto my favorite part of the lesson.” She looked around, searching for the most inquisitive students, otherwise known as the few kids who paid attention. “Could anyone tell me what happens when two shapes of primary colors have a child?”
The ever-so-studious Clash raised a hand from the front of the room. Fresh rolled his eyes, beginning to lower his head again to resume his sleep.
As expected, Clash’s nasally voice rang out, “A shape of secondary color is born! Usually with the powers of both parents, mixed into something wonderful!”
Everyone else collectively groaned. Clash had been the child of two very affluent, powerful shapes. Her mother had been a dainty yellow square with the ability to summon floating constructs. Her father, a tough red circle who owned a search and rescue facility, famed for his unique strength and ability to call forth great cannons.
And so, whenever the opportunity presented itself, the orange hybrid found it necessary to flaunt her lineage.
Logic Gatekeeper applauded the shape’s... enthusiastic input, smiling warmly. Eyes scanning the room, she noticed the practically comatose Fresh, her happiness shifting to slight irritation as she crossed her arms.
“Well, then. Since the subject of typical hybrids is too boring for Fresh, how about he answers my next question?”
There was a simultaneous chorus of, “Oooh,” with a few students even snickering under their breath, “Busted.”
Fresh’s face would’ve turned pallid had he had any hue to begin with, his eyes going wide as all eyes turned to him. In the corner of his eye, he saw Zone shoot him a reassuring glance, although the look did nothing to ease the young shape’s nerves, his internal beat racing in tempo.
“W-well…” In an uncharacteristically soft tone, he asked, “What’s the question?”
Mrs. Logic expression twisted into a vindictive grin, and Fresh felt beads of sweat trail down his face.
“Fresh, dear. Can you explain to the class what happens when a pink shape has a child with a shape of another hue?”
Even the normally inattentive students, the troublemakers, turned around now. Fresh felt eyes boring into him from all angles as he fidgeted, clueless. He could practically sense their amusement, already hear the whispered taunts being spread.
He found himself choking on his own words as he muttered, “It’s just like any other mix, right? P-pink and orange make peach. Pink a-and purple m-make mauve?” He forced a grin, if only to preserve his deteriorating confidence. “B-basic c-color theory, amiright?”
At his side, he saw Zone wince, shaking his head with a grim expression. The other shape was the least bothersome of his peers, practically emanating waves of sympathy in his direction. Or, as Fresh saw it, pity.
Logic Gatekeeper’s smile dropped, and for a moment, it seemed as if she’d been hopeful for him to answer correctly. Thinking again, she was mostly offended that even her students could get such basic facts wrong, a sigh leaving her as she turned to face the board.
“Let this be a lesson to you, class.” She began to jot down fervently scrawled notes, punctuating her speech with each screech of the chalk. “First off, pay attention.”
Fresh covered his face with his hands, groaning softly. He felt his cheeks heat up with a pale blush, his eyes stinging with the beginnings of tears.
“What really happens when pink and other colors is quite possibly the simplest to remember.” Mrs. Logic drew a messy diagram depicting a blue heart and a magenta flower. Below them was a sad looking grey figure of ambiguous shape. She then turned around to explain the depiction, “No matter what shade of pink you start with, mixing it with any other color results in a grey, powerless child.”
Fresh felt himself exhale shakily, his mind reeling. Just like… him.
One kid raised his hand, yelling out before Logic could pick him, “So one of Fresh’s parents was pink?”
The teacher nodded slightly, folding her hands together. “Sadly, the Treeangle’s light no longer accepts pink. It can exist alone, but hybridization is impossible.”
Before anyone else could ask a question, the dismissal bell rang, everyone seeming to jolt awake to collect their things in preparation to go home. The afternoon announcements blared from the P.A. systems, although it was drowned out by the sound of excited children and the futile yells of the teachers.
Seeming to know that nearly everyone was leaving at once, Mrs. Logic took to cleaning off her desk, stacking papers and packets in preparation for grading. She didn’t seem to notice as one student remained, practically frozen in place, his head on the desk.
Fresh sat up as the last of his peers left, leaving only him and the teacher in the classroom. He dimly acknowledged Zone as the kind circle lingered by the door, waiting for him. Sighing sadly, Fresh waved goodbye to the other student, a message for them to leave without him.
As his new companion dashed off to catch up with his other friends, Fresh found himself unable to move, his legs seeming to have fallen asleep. He wiped tears from his eyes, feeling his entire body shudder as he forced himself to get up, if only to hurry up and get home.
He had made it about halfway to the door before Logic noticed him. She looked up from her previous activities, tilting her head in confusion as she spotted him.
“Fresh?” He froze as he heard her voice, turning around despite his willingness to walk away.
Ignoring her would only come back to bite him later, when he’d really need the teacher’s patience. He’d learned that fact the hard way after being grouped with the laziest student in class on a project the previous year.
Logic seemed to notice the vacant, tearful look in his eyes, frowning slightly. “Are you okay?”
Fresh’s eyes widened, and he made an effort to quickly wipe his face on his sleeve, suddenly grateful for his jacket.
Forcing the shudder out of his tone, he mumbled, “Y-yeah. Why wouldn’t I-”
Mrs. Logic cut him off, “I understand that Treeangle Week can be especially stressful for a grey shape. Feeling like you do not belong is a horrible thing, but I can assure you, no one blames you for what your ancestors did.”
Fresh’s breath caught, and he scowled. His eye twitched in annoyance, and he backed up a few paces, a snarl clear in his voice. “You don’t know anything!” His hands tensed, and for a moment, he wished that he’d had the pink-inherent power of turning his fingers into claws. “I… I’m not upset over a dumb tree! What’dya think I am, a botanist?!”
Logic Gatekeeper pursed her lips. Sighing, she stepped from behind her desk, placing a comforting hand on the young shape’s shoulder. She opened her mouth to speak, only for the grey being to jerk away, hissing.
He spat, “Adults don’t know anything!” then ran out the door, never stopping to look back.
Logic lingered, too shocked to speak, her only thoughts being of pity.

Ravenclaw Woojin
genre: fluff of course, sorta?? enemies to lovers but?? not really???, an adamant y/n and a soft woojin,,,, none of the other members appear which i didnt even realise until i finished
okay so woojin is ravenclaws most trusted prefect as hes the eldest one and literally does The Most to make himself available for others
seriously once he asked the defence against the dark arts professor for a 2 week extension on his assignment so he could tutor 5 people for the upcoming charms exam
like,,,,,,,, damn
anyway so you actually do this extended course of charms, youre in the same class as woojin and for some reason??? the fact that hes so naturally good at it pisses you off
especially when youre falling slightly behind in that class
okay a LOt behind
your like,, only friend in that class is dropping it next term to focus on her divination classes and she doesn’t get it either but it doesnt affect her grades not nearly as much as it affects yours.
shes all “dude just ask for woojin to tutor you” and youre like
No NO no
no way are you being tutored by kim woojin. the idea just embarrasses you
you’re usually fine with getting help from peers but woojin?? everyone goes to him for tutoring and you sorta just dont??? wanna put yourself into that group???
you feel like it makes you inferior to him for some reason which is the worst feeling ever
(even tho you totally arent bc youre beating him in potions anyway)
anyway so its a wednesday morning and the class is about to end to allow the students to go have breakfast (you know how extended courses are out of normal school times ye??)
you’re tired as fuck
confused as fuck
hungry as fuck
everything as fuck
but then “y/n!” called you to your senses and you stopped packing your things
your professor had just called you up, an ancient tiny little man who was apart of the great battle of hogwarts some time ago
“yes sir?”
“come here would you?”
you shoved your ink jar into your bag and nodded, walking out from behind your desk and saying bye to your friend who was leaving already
god she really did hate this class you thought lmao
the majority of the students were still packing their things away in a slow drawl probably instigated by the dim, sleepy light of the chilly morning
“anything i can help you with?” you awkwardly asked your professor who smiled at you, stepping down from his place standing on books to look up at you
“yes actually, ive noticed you’re falling behind.”
you cringed, hard, not even wanting to turn around and see who was watching
“i suggest you get a tutor if you wanna get an A for this semester, y/n.”
“sir, i don’t have time to be tutored!”
“well then i guess you’re going to fail this course y/n. just be tutored enough to catch you up on the syllabus and then i can help you with the rest, okay?”
you internally groaned. this was bad
“you’re smart, it’ll only be about 2 weeks before youre caught up. im sure theres plenty of people that would tutor you.”
you nodded and politely fare-welled the teacher before turning to walk out of the classroom
the classroom was surprisingly empty, and you were happy to see that, not really excited about your professor sharing the fact that you were failing the course
sighing to yourself, you walked out of the door, planning to go meet your friends in the great hall
“hey! wait! y/n!”
you whipped around, half scared to death
the halls were practically empty yet
there was kim woojin
standing right next to the doorway you had just exited
your head tipped back. had he really been standing there the whole time?
“do you wanna meet tonight or something? we can go to the library?”
you gave him a pointed stare
“what? why?”
woojin was a little taken aback, he grew smaller under your gaze.
“oh, so i can- you know, tutor you? i heard you were behind by a bit.”
he looked almost embarrassed at how you were responding to his offer as you sharpened your gaze on him
“i dont need you to tutor me. i can find someone else.”
and with that you left a frowning, dumbfounded woojin standing in the hallway as you stalked off to the great hall
stupid woojin
who did he think he was asking you to meet him in the library
surely you can catch up on your own, you really dont need his help. you’re like, shaking your head lmao
smh
but anyway, the end of the day comes and you grab all these phat stacks of parchment and take you study charm books to the library and sit at the farthest ever table away from literally everyone
you start studying properties of all the spells youve learnt this second term
you get to the third spell, aparecium, one youve been having a lot of trouble remembering
you groaned, looking up in your book what exactly the spell meant and remembering it was in fact a revealing charm and you didnt have any pages with invisible ink on them.
you began flipping further into the book, trying to find the incantation for concealing ink writing so you could practise
“h-here.”
you fuCKING LEAPED IN YOUR SEAT
BITCH TF
THAT SCARED YOu oh my god what was he doing here
“s-sorry for scaring you b-but, its got concealed writing on it so you can, like- practise?”
he sounded sorta hopeful as he slid the paper over to you, hands nervously twining with each other in front of him afterwards
your pride was getting to you tho so
“i’m good at that spell, i don’t need to practise it.”
woojin blinked and squinted at you a little, trying to figure out whether or not you were lying
“ooookayyyy. anyway, anything else you want help with? i can explain it a little bit for you?”
you resisted the MASSIVE urge to roll your eyes at him
we get it, youre good at this
“im okay, thanks.”
you expect woojin to leave then, and it seems he does too as he stutters in his movement before clenching his eyes shut
“do you not l-like me or something? or did i-, did i do something to you?” he peeked an eye open to gauge your reaction
he looked almost
scared?
oh no, oh no
what was this guilt? you could feel your glare softening in an instant
why are you liKE THIS
“n-no! i dont!” you stuttered out a reply, eyes widening slightly
and then, he smiled. and he smiled wide
you felt blinded almost, your heart started palpitating. so this is what it was like to have woojin smile at you, and you only.
you were fucked
“oh! okay then! sorry i just-, i just thought i’d annoyed you or something so..” he trailed off, tapping his shoe on the ground suddenly very interested in the lamp on the library desk
“anyway!” he spoke up again. “i’ll uh, i’ll leave you to it. and don’t forget to practise aparecium. it’ll be on the next test for sure.” he grinned at you again and you sorta maybe might have felt heat crawling to your cheeks.
“t-thanks woojin.”
he nodded at you, still smiling before leaving
you banged your head on the table, what in the world was that interaction
whilst burying your face in your hands you noticed he had left the enchanted paper with you, you shrugged
might as well use it, right?
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, shit
1 and a half hours later yu were groaning out of pure frustration with yourself. no matter how perfectly you practised the incantation or how directly you swished your wand at the page, nothing appeared
no writing or anything
you were beginning to wonder if woojin gave you the right piece of parchment, that this was the one with the invisible ink
you shook your head, looking at the clock closest to you and deciding it was too late to be studying and that your brain mustnt be working right,
you packed up your stuff and went back to your dorm, making sure to get as good a sleep as possible because you had another extension charms lesson tomorrow morning
,,,
anyway so you woke up late in the morning with a sore neck and red eyes.
this was Not Good
quickly tugging on your robes and frantically shoving things into your bag whilst brushing your teeth you rushed out of you dormitory and ran all the way to the charms classroom
you ran in out of breath, your professor looking at you with an unimpressed look. “glad to see you could make it y/n.” he drawled before turning back to the blackboard
you whined as you saw him writing a test warning for 2 weeks time, sleepily stumping your way over to your friend who was laughing at you loudly
unpacking your things, you glanced around the room. eyes landing on woojin who had a hand resting under his chin staring right back at you
your cheeks went a bit red when he smiled at you, giving you a small wave before turning his head to the board again
your friend next to you shoved you a little bit, when your turned your head you face her she simply mouthed an i saw that
you rolled your eyes and paid attention to the rest of the lesson without any distractions
anddddd thennnnnn it was over
you blinked, your notes were cleaner today than usual
“hey, y/n!” you looked up to find woojin standing in front of your desk, toothy grin on his face as per usual
your heart sorta skipped a beat before you were able to tell it not to
“hey woojin :))” you smiled, trying your best to sound friendly whilst not looking like an absolute fool
he sorta squinted at you a bit before “so uh, how was studying?”
it was your turn to look at him sceptically this time
“it was,,,,,, good??” you questioned, unsure of how to respond
woojins smile sorta falters before coming back with a somewhat sad lilt to it
“ah, right. well i gotta go. my friends are waiting.” and with that he nodded at you and left
you were confused as fuck
well, that was certainly weird
anyway, for the next week and 3 days, woojin completely avoided you
you’d be fine with this of course if you hadnt gotten that little soft spot for him a while back
it sorta hurt when your smiled at him and he sorta just sadly smiled back and looked away, or if you were gonna say hi to him he’d scurry away before one word could leave your mouth
you were really down about it honestly
bUT you also didnt have time to worry about it
your test was in FOUR. DAYS.
AND you had studied everything else to the best of your ability apaRT from the revealing charm, aparecium.
you wanted to cry, no one could explain it well enough to you and you could say the incantation right bc everyone spoke too fast and apparently you had to use it MULTIPLE times on the tes to maKE QUESTIONS APPEAR.
QUESTIONS
INVISIBLE QUESTIONS THAT COUNT TOWARDS YOUR MARK
basically, you were having a mental breakdown and you knew there was only one person left to try and explain it to you
kim woojin
again, he was A V O I D I N G Y O U
which made you angry bc you neED TO GET AN A
anyway, so your class on a tuesday was an afternoon class and you sorta just planned to corner him there after class
flitwick usually left 10 minutes early to arrive at his choir practises on time and put a charm on the door so no student could leave early
so the time comes, the bells ring and students rush out of the class you go and lie in their beds or whatever most teenagers do nowadays
and you make your way over to woojin’s desk as he packs up his things, he was always the last to leave
you coughed to get his attention, when he looked up his eyes widened
“i need your help.” you stated, eyes boring into his, you could swear you saw pink flush over his cheeks
“im uh, im busy. sorry y/n-”
“just one charm? please? i really need it, no one else can explain it.”
woojins eyes softened and he bit his lip. he was contemplating.
“okay.” you smiled at him widely “lets try now, okay?”
you nodded, placing you bag down and grabbing out some enchanted pieces of parchemnt, including the one he gave you
you sat down next to him and he look confused
“whats the paper for?”
“the aparecium charm.” you replied simply, turning to face him
a look of realisation dawned over his face
“i thought you said you were good at that charm?” he muttered
you looked at him weird, why was he acting so strange?
“i lied, i didnt want help back then but i do now. so,”
and then he grinned widely, taking a piece of paper that wasnt the one he gave you and telling you to watch closely
“aparecium.” he said, clearly. swishing his wand almost expertly
you looked at the paper in front of you and saw the writing of hello appear on it in your cursive handwriting
you looked up at him in aw.
“can you say it again? slowly? i dont think im pronouncing it right.”
woojin giggled
G I G G L E D
and repeated himself, clear and slow. you nodded at him, taking a random piece of paper and clearing your throat
“wait!” woojin yelped “use this one!”
you furrowed your brows as he shoved the piece of paper he gave you in the library in front of you
“uh, okay?” you replied, glancing up at his smile
clearing your throat again, you swished you wand and spoke clearly. “aparecium.”
nothing happened to the paper and you groaned loudly
“oh, y/n, your pronunciation is perfect. its the swish thats wrong.”
you bored your eyes into him “what?”
“youre doing it this way. youre supposed to do it this way” he flourished his wand to demonstarte to you the wrong doing
you still furrowed your brow, not really seeing the difference between the two
“here, i’ll show you”
o hMY GOD HE
HE JUST GRABBED YOUR HAND HOLY SHIT
SIRENS CALL THE AMBULANCE
YOU REALLY ALMOST CHOKED ON AIR
suddenly you felt fire all over. red surely covering your face as you tried to concentrate but holY SHIT
“okay so youre going like this.” he moved your hand in his own, making out the movement you made before
“but you should be doing this.”
o h
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh
now you get it
you wanted to bang your head on the table for being so dumb about it
“oH RIGHT! woojin you’re literally a life saver!”
he laughed again, retracting his hand from yours as red splashed over his cheeks and onto his ears
“well, go on! try it!
you smiled, looking down at the paper and saying a strong and clear incantation whilst moving your wand exactly how woojin showed you to
you squeALED in excitement as ink dotted onto the page!
you grabbed woojin by the forearm and raised it above both of your heads in celebration
he laughed and cheered along with you before you settled down, beginning your massive thank you speech.
“seriously i couldnt have done it without your help i could have faile-”
“y/n, read it.” woojin smiled at you
“what?” you replied, confused
“read the parchment.”
eyebrows furrowing once again you looked down at the parchment with now visible ink
do you wanna maybe go to hogsmeade with me this weekend?
your eyes widened
no way
no way no way no way
you snapped your eyes up to meet his
this is why he avoided you! he thought youd rejected him in such a selfish cold hearted way!
“i’ve uh, actually liked you for a while. we missed last weekend but im down to go next weekend if you want?”
“i- i, i mean, y-you! of course! i’ll go with you, yeah! oh my god i am so sorry you mustve thought i was such a bitch i shouldnt have lied im an awf-”
oh my fUCKING GOD
CODE FUCKING RED HIS HANDS WHERE ON YOUR CHEEKS
AND HIS LIPS ON YOURS
BREATHING? WHOS SHE
your eyes clenched shut as you reached to grab the front of his robes, kissing him back
you felt so goddamn dizzy, your mind cloudy at the absolute bliss of the feeling of his lips and how they moved against yours
he started smiling against you and had to pull away, his eyes glimmering and heart beating out of his chest
“i’ll pick you up at your dorms at 10, okay?”
god, youve never smiled harder.

[DRABBLE REQUEST] Tutor!Jun (G)
Request: High school tutor Jun Requested by: respectchinaline anon Genre: Fluff Word count: 2,282 Warnings: None!
A/N: it's my first time writing 2nd pov, and I really hope I wrote it to your liking!
-Hoshit 💕
“See me after school in the homeroom” the message reads, and you curse internally. Mr Kim must have finished marking the math papers already, and you knew that you had bombed the paper spectacularly, turning it in with half the questions undone and a smiling sun doodled at the top of the paper. Math was just hard, and you knew that you should have studied, but it wouldn’t have made a large difference, honestly. Too bad Mr Kim would never accept that explanation.
You knock on the door, and are granted entrance almost immediately.
Mr Kim sits at the table, a serious expression on his face, and the test right in front of him. You notice the many red marks on the paper and sigh.
“You should know why you’re here,” Mr Kim starts, and it is hard to look into his eyes as you sit down in front of him.
“I, as well as your other subject teachers, have discussed this matter, and we think that you need a math tutor. The fact that you are doing well in other subjects but failing math so badly means that you’re smart but not applying yourself to math! I’ll give you another chance, at the end of year examinations, you need to get at least a B in the paper, if not I’ll have to call in your parents.”
Mr Kim’s words seem to hammer themselves into your head, and you nod, already trying to plan your revision schedule. Wait, tutor?
“Mr Kim, tutor?” you must have heard him wrongly, having outside tuition help was common practice, but from your teacher’s words, he seemed to be implying that he had arranged a peer-tutor, which is rare.
“Yes, I’ve arranged for one of your classmates—ah, here he is now. Come in!”
A knock on the door interrupts Mr Kim’s words, and a dark-haired head pokes in, before quietly closing the door behind him and taking the seat next to you.
Wen Junhui. Transferred to the school two years prior from China, hangs out with a bunch of noisy and yet popular kids, top of the class for math. You’ve barely spoken to him in the two years that he’s been in your class, just because he didn’t seem to talk much to anyone except his friends. Besides, you’ve got your own friends, and there was simply no need to interact with him before.
“Junhui, I trust that you’ll bring her grades up!” Mr Kim chirps and you suppress the urge to roll your eyes. The favouritism was strong in this one. You were lucky that the rest of your grades were good, Mr Kim would definitely have called in your parents if you were anything like the last-place of the class.
“Yes, Mr Kim,” Junhui replies quietly, sneaking a glance at you as if to reassure himself that he could.
“Go on now, make your arrangements, I won’t interfere,” Mr Kim shoos us out of the class and the door closes behind us quickly. You wonder about the mental state of Mr Kim, surely that seems like split-personality disorder?
Junhui touches your arm slightly to gain your attention, and when your eyes make contact with his, he smiles and starts talking.
“So, I’m free on Tuesdays and Friday for tutoring, are you okay with these days? We have about three months to the last exams for the year, so two days a week should be enough to get you a B.”
You nod.
“How about my house? It’s better than trying to get a table at the library.” You suggest, and Junhui agrees quickly, typing down your address in his phone before waving bye, saying that he needed to meet his friends.
Tuesday arrives unannounced, and you are home, waiting for Junhui to arrive for the tutoring session.
There is a knock on the door, and you bolt out of your room to answer it, straightening out your appearance hurriedly on the way.
Junhui enters cautiously, following you to your room as you give him a rushed twenty-second tour of the house on the way to your room, and is visibly relieved when you enter the room and motion for him to sit at the second chair. You take out all the work you’ve done, and sit in silence as he checks through the ones you had problems with.
“Did you multiply the question number into the equation?”
Junhui’s voice lifts at the end, incredulous at the solution you arrived at. Ten minutes in, and Junhui’s patience seems to be running out already.
You sneak a look, and Junhui seems to be stifling his laughter. Or maybe he just finds this all funny.
You redo the equation, “this time don’t multiply everything by 3! That’s the question number,” and obtain the answer, with Junhui sighing with relief.
You move on, and he begins explaining the concepts of complex numbers, a topic that you fully admitted you didn’t understand at all, and you work hard at taking notes. Despite your best efforts, your long-time affliction of falling-asleep-when-math-is-being-taught sets in, and you find yourself trying to muffle your yawns.
Junhui’s voice is deep and soothing, and it rides and crests gently against your ears. Before long, you find yourself lulled to sleep, the melody of his voice a lullaby to your exhausted mind.
She’s fallen asleep, Junhui realises, and he stares at your head, resting on your hand, tilted in his direction.
How adorable, he thinks, as he suppresses a laugh at how your face is squished and your lips vaguely resembling a duck.
Sighing, he packs quietly, since there was only ten minutes left and you wouldn’t have absorbed any more information even if he woke you up. He looks at you, deep in sleep, and cannot resist the urge to rearrange your sleeping position to a better one.
Bending down, he moves your hands and head carefully, until you are face down on the table, with your hands cushioning your head.
He laughs a little at how you’re such a deep sleeper, then picks up his bag and leaves, shutting the door quietly behind him.
You wake up with a start an hour later, and blink in sleepy confusion when the seat that Junhui was supposed to be in is conspicuously empty, before looking at the clock and realising that Junhui probably left after you fell asleep.
Groaning, you pick up your phone to text Junhui your apologies, and stop short.
The only message you have is from Junhui, and simply reads, “Hope you had a good sleep! Study well and I’ll see you on Friday!”
Smiling, you text him back a quick okay, and resolve to work harder on math to make up for falling asleep.
That resolve lasted for all of five minutes, for when Friday finally rolls around, Junhui is staring at you in despair and your math homework still full of blanks.
You smile sheepishly. At least you’ve done the ones that Junhui taught on Tuesday!
Junhui sighs, and shakes his head.
“What am I going to do with you,” he groans, “at this rate you’ll be at a D and that definitely wouldn’t look good on your result slip.”
You shrug, and Junhui laughs in exasperation.
He starts explaining the first of the empty questions, before stopping all of a sudden and staring at you, looking like he had something to say yet no words forming on his mouth.
“Junhui, just say what you want to say,” you mutter, a little worried because Junhui did not seem like someone who would hold back on what he thought.
Junhui begins cautiously, hesitating before saying, “what if we can come to an agreement? I’ll treat you to a meal if you study hard during all our sessions, and if you get at least a B, we can go see a movie as well.”
You are stunned into silence. Junhui was barely a friend, and yet he was willing to do more than what was necessary for you to make sure you do well? A warmth spreads from your heart, and Junhui is at the center of it.
“Sure,” you agree, and Junhui smiles. Up close, his dark hair, dark eyes and wide smile are a lethal, and you realise that he really is quite attractive.
“Now, apply what I taught you and finish this integration question.”
Or he might actually be the spawn of the devil.
Over the months, Junhui and you spend more and more time together, studying math, then gradually more and more subjects together, until you become regular studying buddies.
Towards the examinations, all other school activities have ended, which means Junhui and you meet multiple times a week to study, Junhui’s determination to do well rubbing off on you more than you would have liked.
A week before the exam, and Junhui finds you sleeping on your books, highlighter smeared onto the pages as it seems like you fell asleep while in the middle of highlighting a not-so-important line.
Two days to the exam, and Junhui is relaxed and laughing at your frazzled self, desperately trying to copy down everything you need into a summary sheet.
Five days into the exam, and you call Junhui at 2am while shredding notes, because “tomorrow is the last exam and I’m not going to learn anything new anyway.” Junhui has to sing a Chinese ballad to calm you down and convince you to go to sleep.
Then the last exam is over, and you enjoy about 2 seconds of freedom before Junhui drags you off for ice cream to celebrate, and you yell as he tries to buy too many scoops of ice cream.
The day before the release of the results arrives, and Junhui is there comforting you as you panic, because what if you weren’t good enough? But Junhui is warm and his smile is the same as ever, and you are comforted, for the time being.
The bell rings, and your heart sinks. Doomsday. Lessons have ended for the day, which means that the results will be released soon. You follow your classmates as they file out of the door to the school hall where the homeroom teachers await with the results.
You stubbornly stay at the back of the queue as the teacher starts handing out the results to your classmates in front, the first murmurs of relief and sadness starting.
As you slowly inch closer to the result table, Junhui appears by your side, having already take his results, and whispers, “let’s open our results together at the pavilion in fifteen minutes?”
Junhui’s name is shouted by a group of boys, and he heads off, mouthing “fifteen minutes, okay” as he jogs backwards to meet them.
A quick okay, and you receive your results from a suspiciously cheerful Mr Kim, dodge your friends as they crowd around discussing results, and bolt to the toilets.
The awareness of the result slip burns into your palms, and you splash water hurriedly on your face before rushing to the gardens.
Junhui is already there, sitting down with his result slip face down on the table.
“Took you long enough,” he calls, with all the languid ease that comes from knowing that he definitely did well for the exams.
You sit, and Junhui flips his exam results over nonchalantly, barely sparing them a glance. He makes a noncommittal noise, and you sneak a peek at his paper.
All As, you whisper, almost reverently, at Junhui, who snorts and nods, gesturing for you to do the same.
“No,” you stubbornly shake your head, “I’ll look at it in sequence.”
A deep breath, and then you slowly slide your hands down the paper, uncovering the result slip one subject at a time. A mix of As and Bs, as expected, but your hand stopped short before Math, as if an invisible wall was there, blocking your hand’s path. Junhui leaned forward eagerly, trying to look at the grade through the cracks between your fingers.
A beat, then as your hand oh so slowly moves down a little more, eyes screwed shut, and Junhui rips your hand away from your paper, laughing.
Your eyes open in panic, and a 78 greets your eyes. Your brain seems to have shut down in confusion, slowly trying to fit the number between the cut-off marks for each grade. A, you laugh softly with disbelief, then louder, until Junhui and you are both howling with relief, screaming in joy and jumping up and down.
A split second urge, and you surge forward to hug the laughing boy tightly, whispering your thanks over and over again.
Junhui stills, before his arms slowly drop down to rest on your back, and he hugs you back, hesitatingly at first, before gaining strength and his arms encircle your body, pulling you close to him. His chin rests on the top of your head, and the both of you stay there for a while, entwined, as it sinks in slowly.
A soft I’m proud of you drifts down from above, and you smile, disentangling yourself from Junhui and hitting him playfully.
“It’s thanks to you, Junhui.” You beam at him, and he snorts.
“Of course,” he says with all the confidence in the world, and continues, “so where’s my reward? I’m not a cheap tutor you know.”
You gasp in mock offense.
“What happened to ‘I’ll treat you to a meal and a movie’? I got an A, isn’t it time for you to fulfil your part of the deal?”
Junhui laughs, and acquiesces with grace, grabbing your hand and starts in the direction of the school gates.
“How about now?”

Dear Northern Hemisphere First Year Teachers,
Hello from The Land of Academic Years That Line Up With Calendar Years Because We Are Not Savages!
We’re currently a little over half way through our school year, which has been my first year with my own kidlets (I borrowed other teachers’ when they were sick/at PD for the last 6 months of last year). Please know that I feel your terror/nerves/pain/10,000 other emotions you’re having as the new school year starts. The last 6 months has been...long. And rewarding. And terrifying. And hard. And amazing. And exhausting. And hilarious. In light of this, here are some thoughts about your first year/things I wish people had told me before I started (it got long, and I didn’t want it to devour people’s dashes, so the actual useful part is after the jump).
Please accept now that you will be tired for a very large portion of the next year. I have never, ever been so tired in my whole life. And I have been tired pretty much every waking moment of my entire life. I just really like sleeping, okay? But the point is, it’s not just you. You’re effectively performing all day long. That’s HARD. It’s okay to be tired. There is no reason you can’t go to bed at 7:30 at night if you’re pretty much falling asleep standing up. No one is judging you.
On a related note, there is no point having a beautifully planned lesson if you’re too exhausted from only getting 4 hours sleep to teach it properly. You can finish that lesson in the shower tomorrow morning. Or the car on the way to work. You cannot sleep in either of these places. You can, however, sleep at school if necessary. Places I have napped this year include my desk in the staff room; the bed in sick bay; and the pile of cushions in the reading corner in my classroom (that was actually a pretty good nap). Sometimes, that 20 minute nap at lunch time is the only thing standing between you and killing a child, and it’s worth taking it instead of spending 20 minutes marking.
Please accept that this is probably the last week or so that you will be properly healthy before school finishes for the year. I’m not saying that you will be SICK all year. I’m just saying that you won’t be WELL for a lot of it. I have had low grade sniffles since about week 3 of term 1, and I am not usually a person who gets sick that often. There are about a million different germs floating around schools, and your immune system won’t know how to cope with it. And you’re going to be tired, so it REALLY won’t know how to cope with it. And if you work with the tiny/small humans, you’re like, quadrupling the germiness. Echinacea, Garlic, Zinc & Vitamin C tablets will keep the worst of the germs at bay most of the time. Sometimes, you’ll still end up sick anyway, but really, that will happen once or twice a year in ANY job.
The kids will make you cry. In both the good way and the bad way. They will make you laugh until you’ve got tears streaming down your face and you can barely breathe. They will make your heart want to explode with love and happiness, but it can’t do that, so the explosion will come out your eyeballs instead. They will also frustrate you immensely, and don’t even get me started on their freaking parents. Just try not to bad cry in front of them, because they see it as a sign of weakness. The rest of the staff, however, have probably been there at some point, and will generally be very supportive. Sometimes, they’ll even pull all your homework booklets apart and reassemble them for you with the correct sheets in them when said homework is the reason you’re crying.
Lessons are wildly unpredictable. Some lessons will go EXACTLY as you plan, and it will be amazing. Some will not go at all how you plan, and it will be terrible. Some will go EXACTLY as you plan, and it will be terrible. Some will not go at all how you plan, and it will be amazing. Sometimes the lessons you spent hours on will be the ones that flop. The lesson that you make up on the spot when you discover that the librarian is out sick today and there’s no one to cover for them, so you suddenly have an unexpected 45 minutes to teach may be the best thing you teach all week. There will be days when you are teaching the kids about kinship in Indigenous Australian families and end up talking about how the water treatment process removes fish poop from the water for 10 minutes (any sort of poop will cause a 10 minute tangent. You just can’t always predict when they’ll somehow manage to work poop into the conversation). Just learn to roll with it, and always remember the kids don’t know what was in your program. They don’t know that there was another activity you planned on doing this lesson before they got caught up in this thing that was supposed to be a relatively minor part of the lesson and were having too much fun to ruin. They don’t know that you were planning on spending an extra 10 minutes on that activity, but they caught on so quickly that now you’re starting the next lesson early. It takes so much of the stress out of those situations when you realise that you can actually do more or less whatever you want AND THE KIDS WILL NEVER KNOW.
When you work with tiny/small children, any time can be story time. Lesson came up short? TIME FOR A STORY! Kids being ratty? I’M GOING TO READ TO YOU! You just had a stressful parent meeting and need a few minutes to get your shit back together, but you also have to be teaching right this second? WHO WOULD LIKE TO PICK A BOOK FOR ME TO READ THE CLASS? Similarly, if you’re tired and over it and CBF with a real lesson plan, The Magic School Bus is almost always acceptable, because it teaches science, but you can also treat it as a visual text for English. Or a study of narrative structure. And as a way of presenting factual information in a fictional text. And if you play it from your Netflix account, you used Netflix for work, and you can therefore claim part of your subscription as a tax deduction.*
It’s important to take time to be silly. Obviously, I can only speak as a teacher of the smalls, but I think this applies to the mediums, too. When you’re trying to focus on the million and one things required to be a good teacher, it can be very easy to get caught up in being serious. And sometimes you do need to be, because you ARE the adult in the room, and there are some topics that are actually serious. But silliness is also an important teaching tool. Did you know that it’s Very Likely that at some point today, Ms R will talk about puppies or unicorns? Were you aware that the soldier settlement scheme after WWI was actually one of the main contributing factors to The Emu Wars? Have you ever considered that Katniss Everdeen would be a better candidate for president of a country than Bruce Wayne (but weirdly enough, Batman would probably be at least on par with Katniss)? These are all things that I’ve actually taught kids at some point in the last year in relation to completely serious things that are actually on the syllabus. I love my Emu Wars lesson so much that I’ve taught it at least 5 times since I wrote it about 12 months ago, and it’s the lesson that the kids continually tell me they love and beg me to repeat. It teaches critical and creative thinking, as well as visual texts, and some tangential links to the history syllabus**. There are other, more serious lessons that teach all those same things to the same age group, but no one enjoys them as much. That lesson fixes even the shittiest of casual days on a year 5/6 class. BECAUSE WHO DOESN’T LOVE GETTING TO SAY “And we lost THAT battle because an emu came over to see what was going on in the car and got stuck in the steering wheel, and the army went ‘Yeah, nah, we are SUPER done right now.’ and retreated for the day.”
Educhums are the absolute greatest and they will help you with everything. Many of them also have great stories about their dogs and/or offspring, and they have some of the best “You will not believe what the little shits in my class did today” stories I have ever heard. Which I realise are not directly related to teaching, but it’s always good to know when you’ve had a bad day. Because Avery Jones is the Best Good Boy, Mae is Top 2 Best Good Girls (Best Good Girl is currently napping next to me), Tomes’ Bebe says the most hilarious stuff (and has all the best Trash Truck stories), and Toddler Kaaay’s fashion sense is totally on point.
#*Please don't blame me if this doesn't work where you're from. It's totally legal in Australia.#**we are not required to teach the Emu Wars as a significant war that Australia participated in. I feel that this is bullshit.#educhums#first year teacher#baby first year teacher

I WISH YOU WOULD WRITE A FIC WHERE LINK TEACHES OLD HYLIAN AT EAST CASTLETON PREP WHERE HYLIAN MILITARY HISTORY TEACHER ZELDA HARKINIAN ALSO WORKS
((the problem with answering these asks is that I have to save them in drafts so I can edit the formatting before posting, but reblogs in my drafts are sorted by the time I sent them to drafts and asks in my drafts are sorted by “this was originally sent to you 3 years ago, so we’ll file it 3 years back instead of making it the most recent thing you sent to drafts” ffffffff guys))
***
When Shad gets afancy letter that says he’s being awarded that grant he’s beenapplying for for years, they all pitch in for a little party in thefaculty lounge. Link kind of wishes they were sending Shad offproperly, at a bar, but he does the best he can by pitching in somepunch that is made of pumpkins.
Well, mostlypumpkins, And it’s mostly not Ordona cider (which isdefinitely mostly pumpkins), and it’s after classes anyway, so it’sfine.
They are celebratingthat Shad, lucky bastard that he is, will be spending the fall termon a mostly-funded vacation right adjacent to the famous DeathMountain Goron Hot Springs, while the rest of them, like Link and hiswatered-down cider, will still be here.
Ilia said that Linkought to get out of rural Ordon and see some other bit of the world.Ilia, who went off to become a doctor but remembers to write her dadand visit regularly and how come Rusl and Uli say they haven’t seenyou in months hmm?, said that Link had better go and makesomething of himself.
So he went and gothis teaching certificate and has made himself a lot poorer, mostly. He misses Ordon, where he could find free food lying on the ground,or swimming in the streams. Here in Castleton you have to pay for itif you pick it up, or risk causing an inter-kingdom fishing rightsdispute with the Zora if you drop a line in the river. So instead ofturning up at Rusl and Uli’s house for dinner, these days he orderstakeout and listens to the delivery persons say “Oh goddessesI’m sorry!” when he absently signs thanks while collecting hisfood.
Fado, who stayed inOrdon not making anything of himself and instead making cheese, isapparently putting away heaps of money.
So Link, who needsmoney and hates enjoying sleep times, finishes his punch so his handsare free to tell Shad that he’ll take over his Old Hylian class whileShad is on sabbatical.
***
Link doesn’tactually know any Old Hylian. But, he reasons after the fact, howhard can it be? After all, Link already teaches HSL, so that meanshe’s a linguist like Shad, right? He’s practically an expert already.
Plus, Link is goingto have the exact same textbook to learn from as his new students, except he’s going to have a head-start and he has theeven-bigger answer key. He literally can’t go wrong.
Besides, Old Hylianis a dead language (which has been reincarnates into Modern Hylian)so it won’t hurt it too much when a bunch of teens brutally murderit. They’re already doing quite a good job on Modern Hylian and it’sstill limping along just fine.
And it’s not likeanyone speaks it anyway, aside from nerdy archaeologists andhistorians (note to self: ask Sarge about it?). So all Link reallyhas to worry about is the writing aspect.
Yeah. It’ll be easymoney.
***
Somehow the rumorgets around before Link gets his ass in front of the school board.Reportedly, so many students have been asking Guidance Councilor GorCoron about the Old Hylian class that they might have to divide itinto two sections.
The school boardapproves Link to take over on the spot.
***
Link has just enoughtime for a proper power nap at his desk between his first Old Hylianclass and his Hylian Sign Language class. But Sarge has a break atthe same time which she usually takes in the faculty lounge, to takeadvantage of the tea kettle while she grades or lesson-plans or readsbooks that have nothing to do with historical military campaigns.
The thing about“Sergeant Snowpeak” Zelda Harkinian, with her no-nonsensedress suits, and her stern librarian bun, and her sensible militaryboots, and her severe black-rimmed (actually fake, she admitted toLink, the lenses are plastic but, well, the frames looked the partand she’s always admired the image of a woman in uniform) spectacles, and her baton that’s ideal for pointing to the blackboard or rappingon a desk, and her old-fashioned bathroom and hall passes…the thingis, she’s quick to make a joke. She has a very small laugh, so youhave to watch for it. She’s thoughtful, she thinks about thingsbehind that serious face, and she’ll come up to you with a deadpanand witty response to a joke you made a week ago.
Zelda takes off herboots sometimes in the faculty lounge; there was a big run in thefoot of her nylons once, and she laughed about her toe poking out.She washes the dishes left in the faculty sink, but she hums whileshe does it because she likes things tidy. She walks just a littleheavier than she needs to, so her boots will ring out in EastCastleton Prep’s halls.
(She has it on goodauthority that the sound of her boot heels approaching can send moresensitive students into tizzies of anxiety. So her first term, on theday of final exams, Miss Harkinian thoughtfully removed her bootsbefore striding to the classroom. The sight of her suddenlymaterializing in the doorway, test papers in hand, somehow didnothing to calm her students’ nerves.)
She can hold herliquor, but she can’t carry a tune. She never learned to cook forone, because that would be a waste of good leftovers. She thinks thatHylian Military History is a crucial subject that teaches teenagersabout strategy and critical reasoning and logical thought, aboutpracticality and consequences, about wilderness survival skills, andwill help them become somewhat-sensible young adults.
Sarge worked withathletics teacher Ashei one year to host an archery tournament forthe Feast of Din, and she shot an apple off Link’s head withouttelling him first that this was why she’d ushered him up to thepodium.
The thing is, inshort, Link has a huge crush on Zelda Harkinian. He likes her.He is, in fact, completely smitten, although he hasn’t realized he’squite so far gone despite the fact that he regularly tells the catsat Impaz’ shelter What Sarge Did Today complete with little sighs.
So it’s a bit of ashame she doesn’t feel quite the same way.
Link did ask Zeldaonce if she’d like to “embrace diversity,” but she didn’tseem interested.
***
Zelda quite likesShad, don’t get her wrong. But, she admits to Telma, if only he’dgotten a grant that let him spend the whole year onsabbatical…
This is surely ablessing from the goddesses. Not that Zelda would wish undue stresson Link but, for all his enthusiasm about taking on Shad’s OldHylian, he seems to be finding the subject very hard going. And ofcourse Zelda has a bit of expertise to share–after all, the seminaltext in her field, Sword in Hand, is originally in OldHylian–so he can come to her with any small questions…
…And he does.
Almost every dayLink catches her in the faculty lounge for a few minutes ofconjugation here, or pops into her empty classroom for a bit ofdeclension there, or accompanies her on her walk home for adiscussion of the merits of this translation over that.
It’s not as thoughshe needs an excuse to get to know Link better. She already knows himquite well. But a little bit of extra time is…nice, since they’realready good enough friends that Zelda knows he’s in a committedrelationship with Old Cat Lady Lifestyle.
The cats, thedrinking, the napping all the time, the surprisingly full socialcalendar that Zelda can’t quite squeeze into…in other words, allthe hallmarks of spinster-dom.
It’s just a bit of ashame, seeing as he’s the only slightly-rumpled and generally-mussything she actually doesn’t mind looking at.
In any case, she’stried gauging his interest, and it’s just not there. Anytime shetries to feel him out with a pick-up line, he deflects with acorrection on her grammar or a compliment about how her signing iscoming along. Clearly, Link’s completely satisfied with theirrelationship exactly as it is.
So Zelda will be,too.
***
This is the one,Midna had said, grinning wickedly. This is absolutely stupid enoughto work on that dumbass, Midna had said, with evil glee.
All sorts ofoptimistic hope flowered in Zelda’s chest at the sight of thatparticular expression on her ex-girlfriendcurrent-long-distance-BFF’s face. This had to be good.
So Zelda caught Linkin between classes and asked him, “Am I so beautiful you’respeechless?”
Link repeated itback to her, tweaking the body language a bit to make beautifula little sassier, waited for her to sign it again, and then gave hera thumb’s up and walked off.
***
(Link wished hewere the one she was saying that to, but oh well. He supports herhappiness! Zelda’s his friend, after all.)
***
One of the girlsstays after class, all the way from Hylian Sign Language nearly up toOld Hylian round 2, getting Mr. Link to teach her, painstakingly overand over, how to ask the girl she likes if she’ll go to the Nayru’sDay Dance with her. It’s going to take 5 minutes at the start ofclass tomorrow, she informs Mr. Link, and also a lot of glitter.
In Link’s day–ohgoddesses, he’s old now–they just slipped notes or asked withoutthe performance art. Actually, Ilia usually just informed Link thatthey would be going together to share on the ticket cost. But kidsthese days seem to believe a gift is customary.
Link is old, though,so he just slips Zelda a note.
“I can’t readyour handwriting,” she tells him. “Oh! By the way, I signedup to run the concessions stand at the dance. Perhaps you’d like tojoin me?”
***
Heads bent overcandies and little bags of popcorn and assortments of soda, with thecash box between them, Link asks Zelda to help him brainstorm somereally evil ideas for his Old Hylian final exam. Link isn’t much intodifficult tests, as a rule, because they involve more work to grade. But he doesn’t want Shad to think he’s been slacking.
Link asks Zelda ifshe’d come over to his place for dinner one evening, you know, tokeep working on the exam. Since he needs so much help with it. And tothank her. For helping.
***
She says yes.

The Break Up Blog - Day Twenty Nine
Shoo, what a day.
Tuesdays are always the busiest for me at school, mainly because I have a double period with my sixth graders from 14:15-15:45 with a 10-minute break in-between. Luckily, they were only prepping for their writing assessment, which is due on Thursday. And since so many students finished their work early, I let them play games on their smartphones. Am I the coolest teacher or what? At this point, I’m beyond caring what I do in the classroom. When my fourth grade boys started getting hyperactive and rowdy, I took the whole class into the hallway and made them do 20 Jumping Jacks. But this time, it wasn’t because I was pissed off. I actually just wanted them to settle down and I even did it too despite wearing a dress and pumps to work.
But yeah, it was a tiring day and I didn’t get to finish all of my work for tomorrow during the day. So I spent an extra hour after work preparing for my classes. I’m still not finished, so I might do some more work at home or the rest in the morning before my first class at 10:10. I’d like to try and get to the gym in 15 minutes or so. I’ve been so good lately with hitting the gym according to my new workout plan, I’d hate to lose momentum. I didn’t want to lose more time on cooking dinner, so I compromised by making a salad with lettuce, chicken, tomato, a teenie bit of salad dressing and sprinkles of parmesan cheese. And then I promptly ate a pastry that we had as a snack at work today. I am nailing this whole ‘weight loss’ programme.
I’m still sneezing like I’m demon-possessed. I may have forgotten that the school nurse told me I have rhinitis nearly two weeks ago. In my defence, I was suffering through a mild hangover after my antics at a bar and a night club the night before. Was that really only two weeks after I broke up with X? Time is a strange and elusive mistress. Anyway, I took C’s advice and ordered another nasal spray online. But a proper one this time and not one just made from seawater. Hopefully, I can get over my body’s inopportune attempts to resist against my good intentions to be productive and keep busy.
I’m re-watching ‘2 Broke Girls’ for the umpteenth time and scoffing at Johhny, the sexy barman/street artist with a girlfriend who still finds time to flirt with Max and basically lead her on for close to 15 episodes. Don’t get me wrong, I’d probably let this smooth mother-fucker lead me on and then some for a good year before I came to my senses too. But I’m really beginning to dislike beautiful liars both on-screen and off-screen.
I took my mini air-purifier to work in its original packing. So when I put the box back in my study, I inadvertently looked at X’s possession that I haven’t thrown out: one sexy bathing suit and a few more items of even sexier underwear. Curse her and her unbelievably good taste in wardrobe. I always liked her style and the way she wore her clothes, and sometimes even my clothes. It’s funny how the good memories of X keep intruding into my thoughts at unexpected moments. Almost as if she’s taunting me for bothering to think of anything else but her.
I showed my sixth graders part of a music video by OK GO called ‘Needing/Getting’ earlier. We’ve been learning about music and genres this month, so I wanted to show them this clever music video where the band basically plays everey musical instruments known to Man while driving a car. I’m not explaining it clearly - you just have to watch it for yourself to understand what I mean. The point is that I actually like this song and its lyrics outside of my job. And one line in particular got stuck in my mind while I tidied up the classroom after the lesson. It goes like this: ‘It don’t get much dumber, it don’t get much dumber than trying to forget a girl when you love her’.
I guess I was dumb in every respect when it came to X. But I’m being even dumber now by trying to dismiss everything we had together, even the good parts. If you can’t recapture the past, then you certainly can’t erase it either. The past informs the present, which inherently foreshadows the future. There’s no escaping the past; it’s the shadow that dogs every step you take, even when you’re moving forward. Still, it doesn’t mean that I have to be weighed down because of it. I guess I just need to be mindful of every choice I make from now on and assess whether it’s because I want to change my old ways or if it’s because the past has made me more cautious and wary.
Despite my tired body, I’m gonna stop typing soon, change into my gym clothes and drag my butt to the gym. I may not have shit else going on in my life these days, but exercising at the gym is a good distraction. Then all I have to do is collapse onto my bed at the end of the night with Teddy in my arms and think of nothing and no one else.
My mom gave me Teddy as a present for Easter in 2015. That was a few months before X and I became close friends and earlier still before we became lovers. X is gone, but Teddy’s still with me. I liked having Christie and Teddy together for a few years, but honestly, it made me feel guilty whenever I had to choose between which plushie to cuddle with at night - Teddy or Christie. I had other conflicting choices to make where X was concerned, especially since she and P share a birthday as well. I never felt comfortable choosing between my brother and my girlfriend, even though neither of them actually asked me to make a choice. But the truth was that I always felt torn between X and other things or people; like I could never have it all and be happy.
Now, Christie’s been relegated to the study until I send her back home to X and Teddy’s the only plushie I cuddle with at night. It’s a relief not to have to choose anymore. But it’s gonna take some getting used to. I miss having someone special to love and share my days with. But I definitely don’t miss the lies, the manipulations, the stress and the general emotionally draining encounters with X. I don’t miss feeling alone even while having a significant other. Love’s not supposed to feel like any of those things; I guess it really wasn’t meant to be in the end.
It’s time to go to the gym. It’s pretty late, but I’ll make do and try not to stay too long. After that, I’ll have the rest of the night to myself to do whatever I choose with it.
And when my body is worn out and sleep will overtake me soon enough, I know that Teddy will be there, ready and waiting for me.

Part 2 -- Connections
"I'm so sick of looking at red pen," Henry said, setting down the test he was grading to rub his eyes.
Jess looked up at him, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "We've only been at it for an hour."
Henry sighed. "I know. Most of these grades are terrible," he said with another sigh. "I must not have explained the material properly," he said almost to himself before picking the test in front of him back up.
"Wait, you mean to say you made a mistake? I didn't think that was possible," Jess said, keeping a straight face through the sarcasm.
Henry just leveled a glare at her.
Jess grinned. "You're not terrible, just go over it again with them and redo the test. You've only been here two months. You're fine."
"How did your students do?" he asked, gesturing towards the stack of essays she was working through.
She shrugged. "They could be better, but they've definitely improved from the last batch of essays, so I consider that a win."
"You guys look like you could use a break," Kayla said from the doorway.
"It's not even four o'clock, Kay," Jess said without looking up from her essay. She looked up after marking the sentence she was on, to see both Henry and Kayla giving her puppy dog eyes.
"Breaks are very important for brain and mental health," Kayla said, putting on a scholarly air.
"Do you tell your students that?" Jess asked as Kayla pulled her out of her seat.
"Of course," Kayla said with a grin. "You can't just go and go, Jess. Breaks are good. I promise I'll have you both back before curfew."
Henry laughed. "I could use a break," he said, looking at Jess.
Jess rolled her eyes, but couldn't stop her smile. "Alright," she said to Kayla, "what are we doing for our break?"
"Cookies," Kayla said, holding up a small bag Jess hadn't noticed before. It was pink and glittery, with the words "Sparkle" across the front in gold. "But we have to go outside," she said seriously.
"Why?"
"Because a change of scenery is part of the break," Kayla said, shooing Jess out the door. "Humans need variety. It's science."
"You're an English teacher," Jess said, although she knew Kayla was right.
"I read, Jess."
They arrived out by the soccer field, and sat under a tree, in a semicircle, each of them with a several chocolate chip cookies in their hands.
"Okay, this was a good idea," Jess said after taking a bite of her cookie.
Kayla beamed. "I know chocolate chip is your favorite Jess, but I don't know Henry's. How did I do?"
Henry, mouth full, gave her a thumbs up. After he swallowed, he said, "I love any cookie, but chocolate chip just might be my favorite. These are amazing."
Kayla pretended to bow and Jess shook her head, but smiled affectionately.
"What are you avoiding, Kayla?" Jess asked, knowing it wasn't only for their sakes that her cousin had dragged them outside.
"I can't care about my cousin and friend's well being?" Kayla asked, taking a rather large bite of ice cream. She seemed to regret in the next moment as her forehead creased in pain.
"I know you, Kayla. That was part of it, but you're avoiding something."
"Alright," Kayla said with a sigh. "I'm waiting to hear back about a professional development opportunity, but I can't keep checking my email and my grading and lesson plans are done."
Jess smiled. She'd known there was something.
"What kind of opportunity?" Henry asked, reaching over to grab another cookie from the bag.
Kayla began talking about the seminar series she hoped to be a part of, her hands flying, cookies still in her hands.
Jess leaned back and listened, but mostly watched Kayla and Henry talk. She hadn't thought when she introduced herself to Henry months ago that he would become a part of her life, but they were friends now and he just fit.
"Hey, are you busy tomorrow?" Henry asked as he poked his head in Jess' doorway after the last bell rang. It was Friday and the school had emptied of students quickly, all of them wanting to be as far away from school as they could get.
Jess shook her head. "I've finished my planning and grading already, so I'm free. Why?"
"I was thinking of going on a hike tomorrow, but didn't really want to go alone," he said as he fully entered the room. "Want to join me?"
Jess smiled, it had been a while since she'd been on a hike. She missed it. "Sure. I love hiking."
"I was thinking of inviting Kayla too, although I'm not sure she'll take me up on it," Henry said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, I don't think she'll want to join us," Jess said with an answering laugh. "She's not really a hiker. Or one to get up early on the weekend."
"I thought that might be the case. Should I ask her anyway? I don't want her to feel unincluded."
Jess shrugged. "If you want, just don't be insulted when she says no."
"I won't," Henry said with a grin. "Oh, will it work if I pick you up tomorrow at seven?"
"I'll see you then," Jess said, as a smile crept across her lips. "You'll have to tell me what Kayla says when you ask her to get up before seven to go hiking."
Henry laughed. "I'm sure it will be colorful."
"I think I heard a repeat of Kayla's answer when she called me last night," Jess said as she got into Henry's car the next morning.
"Oh?" Henry asked, his smile questioning.
"I'm not sure it bears repeating, but let's just say that she's very glad she's not joining us. Sleeping in is sacred," Jess explained, her expression serious.
"That's good to know," Henry said, and then he was pulling away from her apartment.
The drive took a little over 45 minutes, and while they talked for some of it, there were stretches of silence that wasn't awkward or uncomfortable. Jess valued that in her friends, the ability to sit together in silence.
"Here we are," Henry said as he pulled into a small shoulder area. The area was quiet, and there was only one other car parked. Perfect.
They walked in silence for the first half mile, both of them happy to just take in nature. It was a slow incline, so they were able to go at a steady pace.
"Let's take a break," Henry murmured as they reached a plateau. There was a large log off to one side, perfect for sitting and resting a moment.
"Do you hike often?" Jess asked as she took in the view. They weren't very high up, so it wasn't spectacular, but something about the spread of trees was calming.
Henry nodded. "I try to go at least a couple times a month. I don't always make it, but that's the goal. There's so many good hikes around here and several I haven't done yet."
"Well, if you ever want a hike partner, I'm here. Kayla's not usually up for it," Jess said, bumping her shoulder with his.
Henry laughed. "Yeah, I got that impression when I asked her yesterday."
"What did she say?"
"Something about how she loved me, but nothing could compel her to get up early and walk up a mountain."
"That sounds like Kayla," Jess said as she took a drink from her water bottle.
"She's what my mother would call a hoot and a half." Henry said, taking a drink from his own water bottle.
"Your mother would be right," Jess said, with a chuckle.
"Thank you for coming out with me today," Henry said after several moments of silence. "I know it was short notice. I'm sure you could be doing other things."
Jess shrugged. "Just laundry and that can wait until this evening."
"I want to thank you for being so welcoming when I first started. It's hard to start part way through the year, replacing someone else, but you and Kayla have been awesome."
"Hey, what are friends for?" Jess said with a soft smile. "I can always use more work buddies."
"And out of work buddies," Henry said with a hopeful look.
"And out of work buddies," Jess repeated realizing that sometime in the last few months Henry had become a real friend.
"It's nice having someone else to balance out Kayla's exuberance," Jess said. "I love her, but I'm way more introverted than she is."
"I noticed that," Henry said, standing up from the log. "I'm happy to be of assistance."
Jess took the hand he offered to help her up and they started back up the trail.
They made it to the top by early afternoon. It wasn't hot out, but the incline had steepened as they got closer to the top and both of them were sweating and slightly out of breath. They looked out at the view, which went out for miles of trees and other, smaller peaks.
"It's beautiful," Jess breathed out, not wanting to break the silence.
"It is," Henry said with a nod.
Jess took several pictures to show Kayla what she was missing, before turning to Henry.
"Ready to head down?"
Henry nodded. "Want to get lunch after this?" he asked as they started down the trail.
"Yes, please. I am starving," Jess said, walking carefully down the steep path. "We might have to make a habit of this," she said, turning to throw a smile over her shoulder.
"We should," Henry said, his voice soft. "We make for pretty good hiking partners."

Are there any auto insurance companies which offer rates to their younger customers at anywhere between $100-$250 a month? I've been looking around and every insurance company I check with wants to charge me $500-$900 a month, which is ridiculously out of my budget. I know a lot of people will say just sell it etc etc. But I love the car and owned for the last year and do not want to sell. I just want a little help please. With the cost of petrol etc I no longer use the Subaru as everyday use as it gets me about 11 MPG and the Kia about 53 MPG and can't afford two full price premiums. So is there any temp weekend cover for the year or small use/classic kind of thing? Any advice will be very much appreciated. Kind Regards""

#novemberstudychallenge, days 7-8
Heya! I’m one day behind with the study challenge, but oh well, at least i’m posting something ;D. Soo, let’s get to the business, shall we?
Day 7 - What book are you currently reading/studying?
Currently (well actually for a while now) i’m reading a medical book by Allan Ropper called Reaching down the rabbit hole. I started reading it for fun, and as it turns out like with most of my reading, in taking the information in as i was actually going to need it. What caught my eye at the bookstore was the Alice in Wonderland reference and the fact that i love reading about weird and extreme medical and psychological cases! I’ve mentioned this before, but that’s mostly what the book is about: Ropper recalling his most memorable neurological causes and how he got into solving them.
Highly recommend it even though i’m not finished!
Day 8 - studying with music or silence?
It depends a ton. I love to study in silence when it’s actual silence - no distracting noises, well actually, nothing (i’m extremely sensitive). I usually do this when i’m home alone, but whenever someone gets home i tend to put my headphones on and wear them for the rest of the day to block out the noise. But i would say that most of the time i do listen to music, mostly indie (trying to keep it as peaceful as i can) just because it gets me in a good mood and somewhat helps me focus (but too heavy music makes me dance, so it can’t be that either).
I’ve had a pretty frantic week so far. First of all, we had this essay that was due like two weeks ago, and i was kinda impatient with waiting for my teacher to grade it. Well, as it turns out, my impatience turned out to be kinda ok at that point because most of my classmates had already gotten their grading. Oh and it’s good to mention that i’m doing a “skip” on this class, meaning that i’m not attending the actual classes but will be taking the exam and doing all the assignments. So, on monday i asked my friend about it and she told me that the teacher wouldn’t grade any essays that were in some other than pdf form (because she couldn’t get the files open i guess). And guess who had it in .docx form? Hahahahahaha.... ha. Welp, i asked her what i should do and she said that some other people also had done the same thing, and the teacher remarked that we would need to print them and bring them to next class, which was on tuesday. So i did just that. So, because i’m skipping this class and the lesson is on tuesday morning at 8, i would have to wake up earlier (ikr?! :D) as normally my school would begin at 10. So i wake up at 6 am and get into school just to return one damn paper, then to wait 75 mins to get to my psych class. Turns out, that i did all that for nothing. When i handed the essay to my teacher, she looked at me and stated that i didn’t have to bring it in and that she would only accept it in the actual exam which is in about 2 weeks?! Also meaning that i could be still making it today. And there was absolutely no mention about this in my instructions. mmmh.
The today i was leaving for my train at 7 am and didn’t even get to eat breakfast bc i had gotten up so late. Then, as i’m walking out the door, i look at my phone and see a notice that my sports class has been cancelled for the morning (it’s my first class and that’s why i was up so early). So i ran to my bed and started sleeping again, not thinking that it would be a good thing to actually eat something. I wasn’t planning to sleep at all, but i apparently fell asleep and woke up again at 8:40. I kinda panicked when i realized that my train would leave in 6 mins, so i just sprinted out the front door and fortunately i managed to make it to the station.
Oh and tomorrow all my classes except art is cancelled for the day - and it’s a morning class, meaning i go to school at 8 and leave at 9:30. Great.
Anyway, today i’ve done some reading for English, finished my small psychology assignment about pain and done some research for my health ed presentation about depression. Pretty happy with what i got done today. I still need to plan my studying schedule for the exam week that start next week help :D
Have a lovely day!
xx

Lessons Learned (so far)
I’ve been in a weird, uncomfortable state where I’m not connected with reality and I’m constantly thinking about the meaning of life. Like this morning, for instance, I half-awoke from a long sleep (I caught a cold), and I just think, Aw man. I’m back to reality again. Sigh. What is the meaning of life anyways??? and then I immediately go back to sleep again... LOL.
I was in Cancun a week ago and actually caught myself, while staring at the ocean sunrise, thinking about getting on a boat and leaving civilization for a year or so. Insane.
I’ve booked tickets to Paris, which I had plans for, but never thoroughly took the leap to actually do it (until now, that is). Right after I got my ticket confirmation, my hands were shaking for 5 minutes. But doing things that scares you is a good thing... or so I reassured myself. It’s in less than a month. I’m scared but also unbearably excited. Ok, no. This is good.
1. Breathe. I’ve been confronted with feelings of anxiety for the past 4 months now. I swear, every year I tell myself there’s no way I can get more jaded and yet here I am. My teacher told me that mindful breathing is something she does constantly, which surprises me, considering she appears to be the most lively, relaxed person. Meditation also helps get me back to the present situation. Relax, Megan. You’re just feeling anxious because of blah blah blah... and now you’re feeling anxious about being anxious. Is this a normal thing???
2. Say “no” to things. You hear this all the time, but I truly know what it means to implement it. When you say “no” to things in a very sincere way, people back off and are totally alright with it. I had a lunch planned for today, but I was feeling a bit under the weather, had a reading response due, and I just couldn’t picture myself going out of the way to meet this person, no matter how much I was looking forward to it. I simply said I wasn’t feeling 100 percent, and she was totally fine with it. Just. say. no. Not everything is about you anyways. Who knows, the person was also probably relieved you cancelled on them, too.
3. You’re doing better than you think you are. I am notorious for getting upset for no reason every once in a while. Granted, it hasn’t happened in a while, but I remember just getting so upset freshman year and my friends asking me what was wrong while laughing because the whole situation was just so ridiculous. Do not compare yourselves to other people, keep in mind of all the advantages you have in life, and you’re doing ok. I go to NYU and I have decent grades and have internship experience. I think that warrants me to CHILL a little bit.
4. Don’t say the word “try.” I’ve tried calling you. I’m trying to start out this new workout plan. It reeks of lack of self-confidence. Just say what you’re doing or what you’ve done already.
5. Don’t isolate yourself. You can throw yourself all the pity parties in the world, but only you know what you’re feeling and how it may relate, or doesn’t relate, to the regular human experience. Right now, I feel so lost. But guess what? So do most people. We’re not getting left behind and we’re not alone. It’s just that at some point, you have to just get moving and get things done. Because...
6. Life will go on without you. It’s true, and we should find comfort in that. It’s truly not the end of the world. Stop being so hard on yourself and look around. So you’re stuck on your readings and have a feeling a pop quiz is going to show up tomorrow. Do your best, and if you fail, you won’t get a C for the semester. C H I L L.
7. You will be confronted with things everyday. And yeah, it sucks, but that’s why you pick and choose your battles. If you get angry over little things, you are exhausting yourself and being close-minded. Look around you, observe, interact, reflect. Make some space between what happens to you and how you react.
8. Listen to and reflect on your emotions. This is important. If I feel a surge of bitterness, anger, anxiety, sadness or any range of emotion, I go to the Bible. I go to the front index and find verses that will bring me peace and inspiration to resolve these emotions the way Christ would in my present situation. It doesn’t matter if these emotional fits were short-lived or “nothing,” we should strive to live in ways that please God in every moment of our lives. But it’s not as scary as it sounds, the Father is so happy when we go to Him and even do something as simple as acknowledge His presence.
9. Reiteration: just warrant yourself a time to relax. Don’t be so hard on yourself. The battle has already been won. Do not lose sight of what He has to offer us! It’s so easy to be rushed all the time nowadays with technology, but technology is just technology. I personally am a huge advocate for going back to the basics. No one needs to know what you’re doing during the day and vice versa. Read, reflect, and interact -- voice your opinions. I sound like a mad woman right now, but we are losing our individuality!!! This sucks!!!! Why was I born in this generation!!!
10. Accept your present season. This season is just a whole bowl-ful of confusion, but I see it as a positive thing (no matter how much is seriously SUCKS right now). As imagery, I see myself as a building that was knocked down entirely. Now I’m currently in the process of rebuilding my foundation again, which is now truly based on God. The amount of doubt and fear and fluctuations I experience regularly... I don’t know how I would get through it without God. Sometimes I just have these moments throughout the day where I literally don’t know what else to do but to pray and read the Word or worship. It’s a foreign experience for me, but it makes me so happy to know that I can embrace myself as a new creation that’s desperately rooted in Him.
11. Ask and you shall receive. I pray about anything that I seek. Sometimes if I don’t know the best way to go about an issue, I first pray to receive the desire to do the first step. For instance, I realized that digital entertainment was seriously getting in the way of me spending time with God, so I asked him to help me grow a distaste for things that don’t glorify Him. And I can honestly say, its been working. If I watch too much of one thing, I almost get that feeling of eating too many sweet things. I just feel sick and lazy. So ask, and you will definitely receive. Also, keep a prayer log so you can keep track of what prayers of yours have been answered. :)
