i. born and fostered out of love, teddy leung is the son of a first generation chinese american military officer and a thai lounge singer. having met while his father was stationed overseas, his parents fell in love but just before they could get their relationship could fully bloom, teddy’s father was sent back to america. regretfully, teddy’s parents parted ways but even with an ocean between them, the culmination of their short-lived romance grew into a new life.

iv. and for the first few years, it was harmonious. all focus was on raising teddy and providing for him, his father training the battalion on fort irwin and his mother working as a music teacher for the kids in the area. then, in the aftermath of 9/11, teddy’s father was deployed for five years on active duty in afghanistan where he served until a hostile bombing left him injured.

v. returning home after all that time away was an adjustment for teddy’s father, having to cope with not only the strain of physical therapy and ptsd, but also with his 7-year-old son whom he hadn’t spent any real time with since the boy was three. but, teddy, with his big, wondering eyes and even bigger, tender heart, tried to connect with his father the way he was close with his mother.

vi. but even then, there was only so much that teddy and his father could see eye to eye on. art and music became a big part of teddy’s life, while sport and the sciences were his father’s interests. it alienated them both from each other, for the short while before teddy’s father accepted a recruitment job in san diego and became busy again.

vii. in san diego, teddy found a little more independence, enrolling in the local public school instead of the school on the army base. and things were fine, again, until they weren’t. by the time teddy was 11, he developed ménière’s in his left ear, causing him to become hard of hearing on top of bouts of vertigo and tinnitus. he fought a lot with his parents then, his angsty teenage bullshit hitting an absolute peak early on when his parents wanted him to get fitted for an aid and he wanted to just let nature take its course ( he still has his one good ear, he’d argue ).

viii. eventually, they came to an agreement, that teddy would go to counselling and learn asl in lieu of getting an aid, and that teddy wouldn’t complain when his family relocated again in the beginning of his freshman year of high school. moving, this time to colorado, drove a deeper wedge between teddy and his father. and as much as he loves the man, they just didn’t seem to click anymore.

ix. so teddy tried to be a good son for him, focused on school and behaved the best he could. it was only after teddy started applying for university, that he felt the spark of excitement again. the possibility of going back to the place he was the longest, to southern california, was all that he cared about. his college years were going to be the time he became more independent from his parents, finally gaining some semblance of his own person beyond what his parents tried to mold him into.

Cordelia stood in the dining room with Zoe while some of the girls were learning how to change a rose, and what the significance behind it meant. As Mallory's rose petals landed in the Supreme's hand, Myrtle quickly stormed into the room. Cordelia didn't have time to compliment the student on her clearly highly accumulated abilities before she asked her aunt what was going on.

Myrtle had an irritated look on her face. "The Hawthorn's School for Exceptional Young Men, they called an emergency council." She stated.

That's never good news, Cordelia thought.

"We're obligated to get on a plane immediately. Airline food for lunch, when I made reservations at Gallitors... just too cruel." Myrtle added before shaking her head is disapproval.

Cordelia and Zoe glanced at each other with the same worried and nervous look.

"Okay," Cordelia finally said. "I'll let you get back to teaching." She told Zoe before stepping out of the room with Myrtle. "Did they tell you what it was about?"

"Nothing further than an emergency, my dear." The redhead said.

Cordelia sighed. "Okay. I'll go pack now. After Zoe's class is over we'll head off to California."

"That retched place," Myrtle commented.

From Lusianna Cordelia, Myrtle, and Zoe flew to California. They took an SUV straight from the airport to The Hawthorn's School. The three stepped out of the car, hit with the hot, scorching air of the California summer.

"Are you sure they couldn't have come to us?" Zoe asked, with slight annoyance in her voice. She hated any time they had to deal with the boys' school.

"Rules are rules. Anyways, are we sure we want all those men traipsing around our house?" Myrtle asked.

Cordelia just looked at them as they walked up toward Behold and Ariel.

Once the council was inside, they were taken to the main room of the small school, where they held meetings, as well as classes and sometimes dinners. Cordelia, Myrtle, and Zoe sat across from Behold, Ariel, Baldwin, and John Henry.

Cordelia laced her fingers above the tabletop as she looked at the four men across from her. "Let the record show that at the request of The Hawthorn School we have assembled an emergency meeting of the council." She stated aloud.

"In order to address what must be grave and impressing importance," Myrtle said with lack of any emotion, almost cynical.

"Proceed," Cordelia said.

Ariel stood from the table, looking at all three witches across from him. "Alestrious members, I want to thank you for coming and giving us the opportunity to share with you what we have discovered." He started with. "We recently took in a boy here at this school. At first, we thought he was simply one of us, a warlock, who needed our help, and training."

"But?" Zoe asked, a brow raised.

Ariel glared at her momentarily before continuing on. "The things he did were extraordinary, and after conducting the requisite tests of his powers, we have come to the conclusion that his abilities are so impressive that they rise to the level of Supreme."

Cordelia quickly looked up at Ariel. There had never been a man or boy to reach the level of Supreme, and in her eyes, as well as many of the other witches, there never would be either. She had heard tales of the Alpha, but also knew they were just that—tales.

Ariel was practically grinning at the surprised face that the Supreme held. He sat back down, feeling that he said enough already.

Zoe looked at Cordelia, worried, nervous, maybe even a little scared by the news.

Cordelia chuckled as she looked at Myrtle for some type of help.

"You say this was a boy, as in male?" the redhead asked.

John Henry sighed silently as he looked down. He knew this was the reaction that they were going to receive.

"Ariel, you actually believe this?" Cordelia asked.

"We wouldn't have summoned the council otherwise," Ariel said.

"In all recorded history, no man has approached the level of Supremacy. Men are simply not equal to women when it comes to magical ability." Cordelia said matter-of-factly.

Behold stared at the two with a cocked brow of annoyance in their words.

"Not to mention everything else." Myrtle chimed in.

"Testosterone is a known inhibitor. It acts to the ethereal realm. Frankly, I question your judgment by calling us here for this." Cordelia said.

"They're not even hearing us out." John Henry said, even though he knew this was partially true. No man had ever been Supreme before this.

"There's nothing to hear! There will never be a male Supreme! It will simply never happen!" Myrtle exclaimed loudly.

"Listen to yourselves," Ariel said. "You say that something has never happened, therefore it will never happen."

"What exactly is it you want from us?" Cordelia asked.

"We want you to administer the test of The Seven Wonders," Ariel informed her.

Zoe had to bit back a sarcastic laugh as she heard this.

Myrtle looked to Cordelia for what she was going to say next.

Cordelia's eyes went wide. "That is out of the question." She said bluntly.

"Why?" Behold asked.

"Because I would be condemning this boy to his death. I lost one of my most promising witches, Misty Day by sanctioning the test before her time." Cordelia stated. "I won't make that mistake again. I take care of my own."

"At least the ones you care about," Ariel commented.

"What do you mean by that?" Cordelia asked. Her anger for the situation was starting to grow worse.

"One of your own, who you abandoned, Queenie." Ariel stated.

Cordelia felt that like a knife to her heart. She had never meant to lose Queenie, especially with how hard she tried to get her back after she learned that one of her beloved girl's had died so tragically.

"Of course it's the black girl you leave behind." Behold shot out.

Cordelia's palms started to sweat as she wrung her hands together.

"I see you, Miss Supreme," Behold added snarkily.

"You don't know what you're talking about," Cordelia stated, her voice a little softer than it had been before. "Queenie was missing. She had traveled through Los Angeles and never came back. I knew something awful had happened to her. Her lifeforce just vanished... so, I went searching for her. And when I found out she was trapped in the Hotel Cortez, I went immediately to get her back from that monstrous place. And I had no illusions about it being easy. The Cortez is a place of pure evil—a hell mouth." She said firmly before a flashback of trying to get Queenie back ran through her mind. "I could hear the souls screaming in the walls. They were desperate for a way out. I realized then the hotel wasn't merely haunted, but an entryway for all things satanic. Where the Devil reigns... we went through every door, every window, but we couldn't escape the hotel." Cordelia shook her head. "All my spells and incantations were useless." Tears started to well up in her eyes as she felt herself having to relive the godawful feelings that she felt going through the process of trying to get Queenie back. "In that dark realm. The light in which we draw our power was extinguished from Satan himself. I was there for days. The ghost of March finally got bored and left us alone."

The four men listened to their Supreme, feeling some sympathy for her as she showed some true emotion towards the subject.

"My effort to rescue Queenie is by far my greatest failure as Supreme, but I tried, and I do care about all of our people. All our people. So I won't throw this boy's life away on some useless devour. There will be no test, and that is this counsel's decision!" Cordelia said firmly as she saw Ariel's expressions form into disobedient.

"Why do you get to decide that?!" Ariel asked.

"Because I am the fucking Supreme!" Cordelia explained.

"No, you're just a scared bigot," Ariel said as he shook his head.

"Scared of what?" Cordelia questioned.

"Of the Alpha. Of a man rising to the level of Supreme. Of an end to ages of female dominance. I'm telling you that time must come." Ariel said firmly.

"And your time is up, and the council is closed," Cordelia said. "The decision is final. There is nothing more to be said."

Auto Insurance - what went wrong here?

Where did I go wrong? A few months back, I backed out of a parking place and stopped, waiting for traffic behind me to resolve itself. While stopped, a large vehicle backed into my driver side door. We both re-parked. The other driver first tried to convince me there was no damage and we should both forget it but after I showed him the damage to my door (his car had almost no damage), we exchanged insurance and personal contact information in a friendly conversation. I reported the damage to my insurance carrier, a large national firm, obtained the required 2 estimates for repair and submitted it, as directed by my carrier and his, to his carrier, a large regional carrier. They informed me he had decided my car was not stopped and so I bore responsibility for his backing his car into me (!), and they therefore were refusing to pay me. My insurance carrier said it was up to me to provide proof my car wasn't moving, regardless of the fact his car backed into mine! I approached the repair firm, and they provided me with photos and offered testimony to state that my car was obviously stopped, based on the damage to the door. Episode 2 - “AHAHAHAHAHA 😂 -screams -” -Jessie

My plan worked, mostly. Czern left and I felt bad but it’s survivor. Raffy (I believe it was Raffy at least) voted with Czern which I don’t like tbh. Raffy has a lil target on my back and I’m sitting pretty with me being the least likely to go home at this point on my tribe. 4D chess, I don’t play chess but it’s hot. I hope my tribe and Liam’s tribe don’t lose any more challenges so we can dominate. I miss Liam 🥺🥰.

Originally I'm from tengaged so the way a social game is played and how you communicate with people is really different. Unfortunately I'm bored with a lot of people on my tribe. Austin is someone I like... I want him to view me as someone new and someone who'll make a good sheep. I can kinda sense he's gonna be trouble in a way, he doesn't seem super trustworthy. Jessie is a big question mark for me. IDK where I stand with her but I think we can get along but I also think she feels comfortable. Omg okay so I never made one of these but I will right now! So basically I like my tribe. I know a few people on here and the other ones seem nice. I would LOVE to avoid tribal, as I think I am not in the *best* standing, but I think if I attend tribal I mayyyy be able to survive. I LOVE THAT THERE IS NO TWIST THANK FUCKING GOD. Cameron - Don't know them and will hopefully make them the first boot. Gizmo- Awesome! They are super nice to talk to and I can tell they are a good ass player. I want to align with them on this tribe, but I am not that passionate about it. Keegan- I. LOVE. KEEGAN. Keegan is super a sweetheart and such a good guy. He is SO good at orgs and I want to go far with him. Def my #1 fav on this tribe!

UM HELLO TRIBE WHERE ARE YOU ? Legit only me and Liam are submitting for the scavanger hunt and the clock is tick tick ticking . Like guys we aren’t winning if only two people submit . Do they not realize two tribes go to tribal ? It’s literally as quiet as the movie the quiet place . On the bright side maybe me doing stuff for the tribe means they’ll keep me because wow I’m active !

Here's the problem: my tribe is half inactive. Ben and Alex truly do not give a fuck whether we win or lose. This means they will be very easy vote offs during this phase of the game, but I don't want to risk having to repeatedly go to tribal over and over again. I am starting to get frustrated. They are literally not responding to any of my messages at all. I've tried reaching out to Ben twice now, and he hasn't replied back to either of those messages. I am so sick of it. For Alex, I don't know what his problem is either. This tribe truly is cursed in part due to them all being men. I need a swap to happen soon so that I can actually be put on a competent tribe. I am terrified that we are going to lose the challenge because it doesn't even seem like Ben or Alex know that it's even going on. Ugh. I'm so over this.

This scavenger hunt has been fun. I was thankful to already own most of the items between my apartment and my parents house. What I didn't have I had to drive around to find. What gave me the most trouble was the Magic 8 Ball. I ended up finding a mini 8 ball that was fully functioning. Given that 2 tribes are going to tribal counsel, and the current state of our sheet, I'm pretty sure Good is going to tribal council. I hope I'm wrong! But hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I think I'm safe this vote. I seem to be in the majority so long as I can trust them. I just hope we are all loyal until at least tribe swap or merge, whatever happens first. If we go to tribal, I'm pretty sure Eve will be getting the vote, but who's to say.

I do not believe we are winning this challenge. But I don't think I'd be the one voted out in any case. Alex and Ben both seems like they're not even going to submit for the challenge, so I will just ride this tribe out until we get rid of the both of them. I predict that there is a swap after this round because then it will be 15 which is the perfect time to swap into 3 tribes of 5. If not, I believe that we'll go till 14 to swap into two tribes of 7. Then, we'll merge at 11. I predict that Mac, Jay, and I will be able to survive till swap, but I'm not sure how I could begin to survive a merge. Maybe if I'm put on a tribe with either Dylan, Paolo, or Austin. I can make a pull on pre-existing relationships, but I will definitely have to give up control to them.

My tribe is filled with people who never learned how to read rules properly. Alex really said "I didn't know I had to put them in a doc." Like,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I am exhausted. Why can't people rise to my level? Is that too hard to ask? And! Alex said something in the tribe chat which means he's actively ignoring my messages and for why? This doesn't make any sense to me at all. Are they purposefully throwing their social games down the toilet? This is what I get for being on a tribe with all men.

There’s an hour left in the challenge. I feel like we have a chance but also think we will lose. I’m worried but I know if we go back to tribal I’m the least likely to go home. That’s king shit. ✌️😙

Having seen all of Season 7, I have to say I am even more convinced that the final showdown must be between Sansa and Cersie for a number of reasons.

Rest of it under the cut:

First off, there are parallels, both Sansa and Cersie are usually overlooked and underestimated by those around them. Dany doesn’t suffer from this because of her dragons, but neither of these two women have that luxury. They are both ordinary (and I use that term very loosely) women who have nothing but their wits to keep them alive. They have had to become smart in order to survive. Cersie had to do it because she was stuck in a love-less marriage with Robert, a man who never really had any ambition to be king and was therefore not as careful as one might have been had they cared about the position. Cersie also knew what had happened to Rhaegar’s wife and children and would not let that happen to herself or her children. In the earlier seasons, her entire focus is on the survival of her family and all her actions lead to that. Sansa, on the other hand, had to learn because her very survival depended on it. She had no alternatives, no protectors, no one to speak up for her.

There was something else that struck me as I was starting this meta, in a way, Cersie was a surrogate mother to Sansa. It makes sense, Sansa was twelve when she went to KL and her mother did not accompany the two young girls, which in itself if quite strange. And before Ned lost his head, Cersie made herself into a mother figure for Sansa. Sansa looked up to her and admired her, wanted to be like her. After Ned’s death, Sansa’s life became a living nightmare but, in a weird way, she still had Cersie who would occasionally advise her, in a way a mother would (albeit it was often harshly delivered, but that did not lessen the importance of the advice itself). It was Cersie who told Sansa that she could try to love Joffrey, implying that he was already a monster and even Cersie could not always control him. In her most formative years, it wasn’t Ned or Catelyn who were with Sansa, it was Cersie. I’ve also stated that, in those early years, she did care for Sansa, in her own twisted way. This gives Sansa an insight into the kind of women she really is which is why there is a part of Sansa that does admire her, because she’s survived where other, more able players have not.

Game of Thrones has been setting up Tyrion as a master strategist and this season just served to illustrate that that reputation may have been premature. He pledged to serve Dany and help her become queen of the Seven Kingdoms and was outmaneuvered time and again by Cersie. In the beginning when Dany’s war council were going over plans of taking KL, it seemed like a great plan, using Westerosi forces to take KL and the Unsullied to take Casterly Rock but while he was feeling smug, he forgot that he was dealing with Cersie. Cersie who learned from her father who was indeed a great strategist. Even at the end, she played both her brothers, especially Tyrion. That entire conversation is a very finely staged performance on Cersie’s part. Every action and word was carefully chosen. When she placed her hand on her stomach, it felt so out-of-character for her. This is Tyrion, she doesn’t trust him, she doesn’t even like him but she does have him figured out. She knew that he did genuinely love Tommen and Myrcella and he does regret that they died. Here’s another thing to consider, Tyrion does have a blindspot where his family is concerned. He hates his sister but she is his sister, there will always be a part of him that sees her through the lenses of a younger brother. Cersie has no such concerns, she would burn the world down and happily watch it burn.

Which brings us to Sansa. We spent the entire season worried sick over whether Sansa would indeed betray her family. Of course, the makers never gave any proof to set up that betrayal but that’s besides the point. If Tyrion was Cersie adversary, LF was Sansa’s. As we found out at the end, Sansa’s problems from the beginning were the handiwork of LF, if not for him Robert would not have come North and would not have betrothed Sansa and Joffrey. The Starks would have stayed home, healthy and whole. But LF’s hunger for power got the entire plot going. He then betrayed Ned and then used and abused Sansa. Sansa suffered some of the worst abuse at the hand of the Boltons and that match was arranged by none other than LF. Like Tyrion (and mind you I love him) LF also has too high an opinion of himself, he’s started believing his own publicity. Throughout this season, he tried to sow the seeds to dissent, first between Jon and Sansa and then between Sansa and Arya. And it would have worked except all season, LF was telling Sansa to think about the bigger picture, to view everyone with suspicion and always play out scenarios in her head so that nothing ever surprises her. This was great advice, except LF thought that for some reason, he was exempt from all these scenarios. Killing him would have been easy but to do so without losing the support of the Knights of the Vale, that was going to be exceedingly tricky. That scene where LF finally meets his end, that too is very carefully constructed, it’s the Knights of Vale who line the Great Hall with Lord Royce present, who already didn’t like him very much but couldn’t openly oppose him for fear of Sweet Robin. She sets him up perfectly, so much so that he never sees it coming.

So Season 7 saw both Cersie and Sansa outplay men who thought themselves to be smarter than the women they were trying to manipulate..

It also set them up in contrast to each other. In Season 6, Cersie burned down the Sept with all those people inside, not to mention all the collateral damage. Whereas Sansa was more worried whether they had enough food to make sure that everyone would be fed and they could take in refugees when the fight against the WW really came. She takes a personal interest when she really doesn’t need to and her people see this. This is evident when Arya comes to Winterfell and the two sentries don’t want to bother Lady Sansa, not because they’re scared but because, in a strange way, they’re protective of her.

Season 7 has so far established 3 main groups, Dany and her quest for the IT, Cersie and her quest for who-knows-what and the North that just wants its own independence and also survive both the WW and Cersie. I’ve stated multiple times that I don’t see Jon retain his crown in Season 8 which makes Sansa the QitN. Jaime recently left Cersie and rode North to fight against the WW and while there he will join Sansa and not Dany. Dany burned his men alive, he doesn’t like her and he doesn’t trust her. Jaime redemption arc started when he was paired with Brienne and tasked with getting the Stark girls safely delivered to their family. Plus he knows Sansa, he knew her father and mother and while he may not have liked them very much, I believe he does respect them. I personally can’t wait for him to meet Sansa and see the capable woman that she’s grown into. Jaime is often blinded by his love for Cersie but he’s starting to see that most of it may have been one-sided. When it is time to make a final choice as to who he will support, I believe he will pick Sansa, simply because she’s the better candidate. The fight against the WW will end with the elimination of one of the groups and I don’t believe it will be the Starks. They’re the protagonists of the series. I believe that Cersie will make it out alive as well with Dany sacrificing herself in the fight against the WW.

In the Starks vs Cersie battle, there will be one key difference from the BotB, Jon will seek out and heed Sansa’s counsel when it comes to how best deal with Cersie.

Anyway, that’s what I think and this post got way longer than I thought it would, but I hope it makes sense.

white guilt

This is about my white guilt. It involves black people but it focuses on me, a white human. It's what I needed to write out for myself and – I wanted to have it shared, because that feels important, but – tw for racism and like... just... yeah, hella discussion of racist thoughts and actions and life. Pls don't read if you don't need white emotional shit in your life right now. I know most people don't.

Okay, so i'm racist. I'm white, so I'm especially very racist. I'm a cis queerish girl and I'm also sexist and homophobic and fatphobic and ageist and classist and ableist and like, not even borderline, even with the things I am I am not good about these things. But with racism, there's this additional layer to the comes-free-with-life-in-a-biased-fuckworld prejudice, which is all me and my particular privileged bullshit. (Not to say I don't have a bit of that with everything else, or that it's 'not my fault' that I'm sexist, but like. To some degree, that feels like something I'd inevitably have to work on fixing – this racism is on top of the i'd-have-to-work-on-it-inevitably racism.)

basically whenever I fucking see a poc, my brain goes, 'oh, that's a poc. Let's think about alllll the stereotypes you know about that race and culture!' and yeah, I also judge myself every single time I do that, and because i'm a self-conscious privileged white asshole, a lot of those thoughts are like, attempts at positivity. But it's still rooted in this deep – othering.  

what this is linked to is this thing, right? Where, last year, at my first year in my basically-tumblr-as-a-school college, it was hellyear. It was, 'literally everyone is angry and outpouring all the stress and negative emotions that they have ever felt'. I was on queer hall, and definitively the least queer and probably the least depressed human there. It was isolating as fuck, and meanwhile i'd been plunged from my white-as-antartica liberal-but-rich i'm-one-of-the-most-left-people-in-town upbringing into everyone is angry (you have personally wronged us all, white person, you deserve to die). (the stuff in parentheses I made up; no one was saying that but it's how the anger made me feel, because i'm fragile as fuck). Oh, and I broke up with a longtime partner that year! Fun times, fun times.  

Basically, the first time I was even adjacent to black people regularly, this was my experience: they were extremely angry at groups I belonged to, I didn't feel like I fit into the groups I was living with, and no one was helping me deal with any of this shit, or explaining how I should do that. I knew that anger doesn't actually mean 'I hate you in particular, and you are irredeemable', but, well, I never really believed it. I'm still working on believing it now, and I sure as hell didn't then. I told myself, often after being told by my best friend, stuff like that – 'it's not about me' and 'it's not actually my fault' and  'they aren't all angry this isn't representative' and 'they aren't a monolith' and 'white guilt isn't productive', and I tried to understand, to listen, because it seemed like the black people on campus needed that*. But that was one super unconvincing voice (plus my best friend, who is an angel and probably saved me from a much, much worse time, but two voices was not enough) against a shitty fucking environment and some really unhappy thoughts. And depression.

I spent that entire summer aggressively ignoring people. People didn't even know I was back. I spent most of last semester ignoring people too. Over the course of that time, and some really fucking important fanfiction, and a really good living situation this year (so good friends), and actually dealing with family issues in a healthy way and some counseling and now being on terms I like with my parents, I sort of... got better, I guess? I am not depressed now. But, the thing is, a lot of my strategy for dealing with last year's hellscape was just forgetting it. And a lot of the stuff i'd learned/felt was still around.

So a week or so ago, I was dancing in the rain at a bus stop. I'd been out for a long, long time; I have long Tuesdays and Thursdays anyway, and I'd made that one longer by doing some on-campus homework and eating dinner with a homeless person. It was 7pm, I was soaked, and the next bus wasn't coming for quite a while.

I dance mostly to express my emotions, but also a little bit to be seen as the kind of person who dances in public. I've been doing it a long time, and I'm pretty good at it, and it's nice to be seen as long as I don't have to, y'know, see people seeing me.

This late, there weren't too many people at the bus stop. I'd stopped by earlier and then skittered off to a bookstore for a while, to avoid the rain, but it was shortly before the bus was supposed to get there now, and I think a human who'd been there earlier was still there. I noticed her after I took a break from the dancing and the rain, because the bus still hadn't come yet. She was black, and my age, and had on a great outfit, and I liked her. It seemed like she was waiting for the same bus, which meant she probably went to the same college.

What this post is about is my reactions to her that night. Because my first reaction was, as discussed, 'oh hey black human let's think about that' and also, subconsciously, 'she probably hates me'. But then I danced, and our bus came by with 'not running' on it, and then I felt okay about approaching her, because then? I wasn't just a white human anymore, i'd done something to prove myself as an okay human being, I was not just someone to be hated.

It was really startling, how stark that subconscious feeling was. And it made me realize that that was what this was, this additional layer of racism. It was 'I have done wrong'. It was exactly like the guilt that I get when I don't do a chore, and know that people obviously can tell, and I was supposed to do the chore and I could have but I didn't and now they hate me forever and I am scummmm – because I still haven't learned that anger has no fucking thing to do with you, and when you screw up, that isn't about you either, it's about accepting it, fixing it as much as is possible, and moving on. Too fucking often, i've dealt with guilt by seeking reassurance that I haven't made a mistake or that the mistake wasn't that big. The dancing was like that – i've done a good! That means i'm not bad, right?

And that's the revelation I had. Black people don't hate me, specifically, or at least most probably don't. Many black people don't even hate white people, probably. But the thing is? Yes, we screwed up. If there's a bigger fucking screw up than centuries of oppression and death and hatred, then I don't fucking know it. And the black people that do hate me are 115% right to do so, because I have been complicit and I am white and I benefit from my whiteness and their oppression. If they hate me on sight, that has nothing to do with me. I have no right to black people's friendship, or goodwill, or love.

But my subconscious was right about one implicit conclusion – that's a big fucking loss. Black people have so much beauty, and tbh? No one owes me anything. Anyone has the right to hate me on sight, black or not. But that shouldn't stop me, because there's so much beauty in black people and in other poc.

I am not a fucking tower of cards. I will not collapse at the first harsh word. I'm not the kind of person who regularly approaches people to begin with, but from now on i'm not going to let this shit stop me from approaching black and poc faces just as much as I don't approach white people.

*fuck this too; black people don't need me specifically and my guilt-listening was not really genuine or useful. What is needed is genuine, compassionate listening because you actually care about the people as people, and I was not doing that last year. At all.
