I made a character :D

It's a sona for the Divine Mortals AU. I'm not a bishop or anything, I'm just here. I'm a funky little duder ·:3

This was one of my first ventures into the realm of character design, I'm pretty happy with it

I'll just explain it under a cut, Imma yap for a bit

The animal I picked was the blue RED sea dragon, or glaucus atlanticus as I first heard of it

These puppies are pretty cool if I do say so myself. They're a type of sea slug (already a good start) and can EAT the nematocysts (stinging cells) from stuff like jellyfish and use it as their own through their cool little finger things... I can eat poisonous and/or venomous stuff to GROW STRONGER!!

The eyes were the one thing I knew I wanted from the get go. If you couldn't tell from my pfp, I like biblically accurate angels, they're cool. Also I made a joke that I had a bunch of eyes and decided it was canon lmao. I tried not to go overboard with it, there's only the eight you can see here, and decided not to put eyes all over the body. There's only eyes in places that would benefit an animal, front, back, and the tail to make up for the blind spots

The spiky things on the head are cerata! The little wiggly finger things in the pic. I can use them to show emotions, up for happy, down for unhappy, wiggly for various things

Oh! And the red mask shape is a reference to my discord pfp AND my old "brand". I mean, I still use it so maybe it's not old but whatever

I'll just list off some other stuff: Young adult, quite tall despite little guy energy (6'5). ABSOLUTELY a little gremlin, I'm in chaos cult after all. Scatter brained af, can't keep a train of thought. Basically, he is me, I am him, we are one

Uuuuh... Lore wise I don't have much. Only concrete thing is that one day I just said "forget this" and clawed my way out of the ocean evolution style. Maybe I'll draw that

How i do stuff | Part 2

Okay so i'm kinda doing this backwards going from the shading back to the sketching but not like i did anything logically ever.

THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE A LINE FOR LINE PROCESS because i am not that insane. Yet.

To be honest the entire sketching process is very intuitive on my part so i don't think i can provide much insight here but i'll try to make it make sense.

It is really not as conscious as the shading.

So first: have an idea to work with

Find a concept i like and go from there.

I decided that i want Vessel to look upwards and a little bit to the side and add some other details (which you are not going to see here yet. We are talking about sketching people here not background or whatever.)

Next step: i try to find a reference image that is as close to the desired pose as possible. It could either be made by a posing tool or actual reference image. Whichever is at hand.

(For whatever mysterious reasons i have a small catalog of IV pics in my head rent free so i actually knew what i was looking for.)

I use reference pictures for a few reasons. For one, they make it so much easier to figure out poses and movements. But more importantly by looking at them i can figure out the flow of the body much more faster than just from memory. They also help with understanding how cloth is draping or the way light hits certain shapes and surfaces. There are a lot of benefits.

Anyway so we have our reference picture:

But i wanted Vessel to look the other way so flipped it. (Zoom in not mandatory but we don't need the rest of IV for this.)

Ye okay i can now kind of figure out where goes what in relation to one and other.

Okay okay okay i know: draw a circle than finish the fucking owl.. no bear with me. I need something on the page to talk about what i do. Lemme explain:

So first i'm starting with the traditional x or cross (blue on the pic below). I usually i orient it in my head that the meeting point of the line is the part of your nose dips right above the nosebridge. Because that is usually in the same level as the eyes. At least how i start, they could be moved up or down later.

So the horizontal line for me is the middle of the middle pair of eyes/eyeholes for Vessel or if there is only one set of eyes than it is the middle line for the eyes. I found it most comfortable in proportion wise for me to start with. (This horizontal line would be the tip of the ears as well if i had ears on here.)

Than i pick where the tip of the nose and the mouth is going to be roughly. Doesn't have to be more than a little dot or line, it is going to be changed later anyway.(pink lines below)

I also pick a comfortable spot on the vertical line where the point of the chin is going to be, where throat starts and pick a spot for the addam's apple.(pink lines below)

Than i make the whole head into somewhat head like shape (pink egg like shape below), because where that ends is basically what i'm connecting with the chin point to find the jawline. (green lines below)

Maybe even add to a line or two for where i imagine the hood to go just for funsies.

What else i do simultaniously with this is finding the flow of the face because where his adam's apple is, will tell me where the neck bends in the movement, the neck curving point will show where the shoulder connects, but also where the tendons are going towards the suprasternal hollow and then where the collarbones start and angle back up towards the shoulders etc. Everything connects to the next thing.

(I also do this for half or full body figures as well, only there i'm trying to find the flow of the entire body. Or more accurately the curve of the spine in a natural or close to natural shape first and then figure out the smaller parts.)

Look i'm not gonna lie, for this to be eyeballed off of even a pretty close reference picture in a way that looks close to natural or makes sense, you have to have a basic understanding of anatomy.

It doesn't have to be a conscious understanding but it has to be there. There are endless tutorials out there to help with this and i highly recommend looking up a few because i know not everyone can learn it just by looking at dancers and anatomy lab videos.

Next step: find a reference for the mask and preferably for the mouth because i'm bad at drawing mouths and i want to learn. If it is moving make it not moving, it helps a lot. Kill it with a screenshot, put it in Paint, bury it in a jpeg. Simple as that.

When i have my mask reference, i'm just trying to find a sweet spot that matches it in a way that feels good. First i'm going for the rough outline of it, details can be added later. It is not going to be a one-to-one to the reference because it is not the exact same angle, but it still helps.

And from here it is mostly just trial end error of putting lines and details in and than erasing them until i reach a state where i can say: yup this is look decent enough and can refine it into a lineart and start shading.

Not much else i could share here about this part of the process because as i've said most of it is pretty intuitive and based on a certain level of anatomical understanding.

(Hopefully you'll see the end result in a couple of days but we'll see how much time i'm going to have.)

Feelin' better now! So here's an update :D

I finally have the hood now! So glad I'm almost back to where I was on the original piece! I was kinda worried I'd get distracted and not do it since it'd feel daunting or something? Not real sure what I was going on about XD but anyway! I love how it's turning out so far! I don't know how I'm gonna do the rest of the cloak though...well! I'll try my best anyway!

Okay you have single handedly derailed my entire day lmao, I’ve been a casual gacha club user for years cause I love character design and had no clue that gacha life 2 was released so I downloaded it and spent nearly the whole day making a few characters on there after seeing this lol. Fam I had shit I was supposed to do! I don’t blame you tho this is all on the adhd demons.

Anyway both the drawing and your character look so good!! I totally get things feeling daunting when you lose progress, I refuse to use Word because one time I lost an almost complete essay on there. Google docs having auto-save my beloved. Definitely something I’m not looking forward to when I finally have the tools to get into digital art, but even tho it’s much harder to loose progress with traditional art (unless you spill a glass of juice on the page�� definitely not something I’ve done several times nope no siree could never be me) i dream of the day I can erase as many times as I want without tearing the page and having layers and easy opacity and ZOOMING IN OH MY GODS- so yeah I’ll take anxitey over saving my progress for all those benefits any day.

Btw here’s two of the characters I wasted my day making :) the bottom one is sorta my self insert OC, but I literally don’t have any story for him it’s just what I would wanna look like if I was a shapeshifter (although whether I would go for fox ears and tail or horns and wings changes by the hour lol)

so we all know mulder is a sweet, sensitive, gentle guy who gets taken advantage of endlessly because of this and his willingness to believe, right? and we all know he's been used and hurt by women in the past, particularly colleagues of his. so it would be no surprise that when he comes across a female colleague he actually really likes, not just attracted to, actually likes as a best friend, he wouldn't want to lose her.

but at the same time they're so intimate, so close, the tension between them is so tangible, that there's no way it can't evolve into something else or it would explode.

the term 'friends with benefits' would loosely describe them. but as mulder once said, they don't fit the conventional norms for a relationship. so i think they have been sexual with one another since s1 except for full penetrative sex. let me explain - the general (and often sexist) idea is that females become overly attached with a guy they sleep with, especially for the first time (and i have strong reason to believe that scully is a virgin and mulder ends up being her first time, but that's another story) but that's not the reason mulder is the one who refuses full on sex, he respects her too much for that.

it is he who would become attached.

and he wants to avoid his previous mistakes. because he loves and cares for scully a lot. it's complicated. they can relieve their urges and stresses and tensions between each other - and explain the damn jealousy, the gazing, the touches, the fact that people often mistake them for a couple etc, without the risk of a full romantic relationship. i mean ofc they're idiots because they clearly fall in love, but that was the intention. and it takes until s7 for them to finally take that leap and for mulder to let scully convince him to have full sex with her. imo it starts soon after she saves him from his brain surgery with csm because he acts very very very attached to her, like, first time sexual intercourse with her attached, and she acts very sexually confident, something very unusual for her. his confidence has also grown, but it has consistently throughout the whole season.

You were patiently waiting in the line for this so called Peanut Butter Pound Cake S'mores. According to your friends, it was one of the best desserts the cafe ever had. To test that theory, you decided to check the dessert yourself. While waiting for your order together, you learned what the boy’s name was and that he came here with his cousin. When you heard that the first image that popped into your mind was a soft looking person just like him you. After you got your order, the two of you made your way towards their table. And with that, your previous thought was thrown out of the window just like that. There he was, one and only Juza Hyodo, the person who helped you in the library, was sitting in a chair, quietly munching on one of the many sweets in front of him. When Muku announced that he was back, his eyes shot up to him and then shifted towards you. Yeah, it was awkward. Nevertheless, you tried to offer the tall boy a smile, which he just nodded his head, cheeks tilted pink to get his sweet tooth exposed to someone from school. After you sat down, Muku began to explain how he accidentally bumped into you and spilled some of his drink on you. Juza got the picture and said nothing. Though, gradually he started to become more comfortable. Before you knew it, you befriend the young teenage boy with fluffy hair. You told Muku how you two first met, which he only exclaimed how cool his cousin was and how the scene was just like from a shoujo manga. So yeah, your friendship with Juza started that day and slowly but steadily developed into something more. You would see him at school and chat with him, give him snacks to eat together on the rooftop etc.

➜ PERSONALITY COMPATIBILITY ; Let me just start of by saying that you two are really similar in terms of personality. Intro...for anyone who cares

I'm rinofwater, formerly #nedasrin, a blog (and attached sub blogs) I abandoned at the end of my senior year in high school because A) a lot of shit went down and I wanted to distance myself from any social media and B) my feed was becoming a toxic wasteland instead of the fun side of tumblr that I joined for (and came back for). I like to think I've grown up some since then and can handle more shit, though we'll just have to see, right?

Anyway, so about me: I'm a 19 year old white girl who doesn't have the faintest clue what her sexuality is or how the hell to be an adult but I'm learning both (maybe). I believe that everyone deserves to be treated equally no matter where they're from and that most people deserve the benefit of the doubt (some don't, but I usually don't learn that until it's too late). I like to try and make people feel good about themselves, though I find that I'm not very good at it...😅

I have a cat named Magnus (my user pic) and I love him very much. I also have two dogs and two guinea pigs, but they're not mine the way my cat is. Expect many pictures.

I'm majoring in game programming and want to make indie games for a living one day. I already have so many game ideas percolating in my head...I'll probably make a sub blog just for that...eventually...

I love composing music and writing, and enjoy drawing and programming. I like learning new things, and I'm particularly interested in psychology and astronomy. (Disclaimer, not actually all that great at any of this). I HATE differential calculus and am currently regretting all my life choices but...I'm pretty sure just about everyone does.

Finally, I'm a shipper. I love participating in fandoms I'm passionate about (a big part of why I came back) and I'm tired of being out of touch on the stuff I enjoy. I'm a big fan of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Legend of Zelda, Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons/Rune Factory, Stardew Valley, former fan of Assassin's Creed (though the new one is rekindling my interest in the series), Bleach, K Project, Samurai Champloo, Vampire Diaries, and...I feel like I'm missing one, but you get the idea. I like a lot of things. I like sharing headcanons but I might make separate blogs for those and keep my personal blog...personal. I haven't decided yet, though...
