a / n:
Last part of the series! Thank you for those who supported this series from Part 1 to now, the last part. I appreciate all of you reading these fics of mine. I won’t be able to post something tomorrow for Christmas Special, but I will be posting something on the 26th of December. I will be busy on family gatherings on 24th onwards, that’s why. Anyways I hope you enjoyed reading all of the fics in Nine Days with Drarry Before Christmas (December 2020).
Waking up on a Christmas day makes Draco excited and somehow restless. Giving gifts to their families and friends is his way of thanking them for staying in his life. And their amused and happy expressions are a pleasure to Draco. But of course, he loves receiving something in return too.
And what he’s receiving from his lover this year somewhat excites him. He receives numerous gifts from his lover, love, and appreciation every time. But this has been a tradition for both of them too. The two of them plan something every year that the both of least expect.
This has been going for the whole seven years of their relationship, but it might stop now on this somewhat not-so-normal Christmas day. Well, the blond woke up with his lover not being at his side, the raven-haired acts as if it’s just a normal day. And what makes Draco upsets the most is he didn’t even greet him a nice Merry Christmas or a good morning at the least. Not even their families contacted him.
This makes the blond upset and nearly almost breaking down in cold winter, Christmas day. But Harry doesn’t have plans on making up with Draco, he ignores the latter and acts oblivious about his feelings. He tried to make Draco get out of their shared bedroom despite the blond crying and sulking.
But Harry ignored the fact that his lover is crying and sulking because of him. He’s a jerk if I may say. But Draco, being the observant he is, found these gestures and acts of Harry odd. He says it is not like Harry to act like this to him. So he put up all his courage to come out of their bedroom and sat on the sofa.
Only to be greeted by his lover who’s seating on the sofa in front of him, sipping his morning coffee and eating his biscuits. He didn’t even try to serve something for Draco. And Draco pouts at this, he huffs and glared at Harry.
But his grey orbs laid at their Christmas Tree, which has a small box underneath it. ‘I’m pretty sure, it wasn’t their yesterday,’ he said at the back of his head. He walks closer to the tree and holds the box in his hand. Observing it quite well as it may be a prank to him or what, but it’s just a small, green velvet box.
He tried to shake it but it does not create a sound, making Draco frown even more. His lover, Harry, is watching him from the corner of his eye. Draco is aware of this and tried to act normal, he slowly opens the green velvet box, only to be surprised at what is it. His jaw dropped at the sight of a small, silver diamond ring sitting at the center of the box.
He slowly looks at his lover who’s smirking at him and opening his arms to receive a big hug from the blond. Draco tears up at this and ran to his lover's arms, wailing at this scenario he didn’t expect, especially today that his lover treated him oddly. “You’re so mean!” Draco said between his cries on Harry’s neck, Harry just chuckled at this and rubs his back. Kissing his head repeatedly, “I’m sorry, babe. I want this proposal to be more unique,” Harry explained to his lover.
Draco whined at Harry’s explanation but looks at the velvet box in his hand again. “But it worked right?” Harry asked for assurance from his lover, Draco nodded but frowned at him. “I still hate how you ignored me sulking and crying,” Draco said in a pout.
Harry nodded and mutter a sorry and sweet nothing to his lover. He took the velvet box out of Draco’s hand and took them right out of the box. He held Draco's hand and kisses it before putting the ring on his slender fingers. He smiled at the sight of this.
Draco smiled to himself as he watches Harry kiss his fingers, especially his ring finger. This is a not-so-normal Christmas day indeed.

Best Friend, Children, and Click: Spock TD# 51467 Cute and Playful Boy Found underweight and all on his own. Friendly and joyfully playful in dogsy playgroup. Would love to go home @ Manhattan ACC. 12-18 ms old, 40.8 lbs TO BE KILLED 1/11/19 Spock is a young, sweet boy, playful like a puppy in doggy playgroup and in need of a home, that really cares. He has been found all on his own, underweight and would love to have new parents, that feed him properly and love him forever! Please share! A VOLUNTEER WRITES:Are you ready to beam up the silliest, friendliest, most playful pet at the Care Center? Then allow me to introduce myself, I am Spock and if you're a person (or dog) who loves rough'n'tumble play and tossing toys around then the only logical thing to do is take me home. I'm just as friendly as I look and twice as fun and my favorite things in the world (so far) are chewy toys and treats. Ask nicely and I'll even sit and wait for you to give them to me. We should take a toy on our walk as well, just in case a munchy mood strikes while we're outside--I wouldn't want to have to use the leash! Playgroup is my zoomie time and I play pretty hard so I'm hoping any four-legged members of my new family crew enjoys running and jumping as much as I do. Anyway, enough about me, let's talk about you and how much more fun your life would be with a little Spock in it. Everyone deserves a best friend and I could be yours! Welcome me home and we'll live long and prosper together, I promise. MY VIDEO: Playgroup Spock and Ginger <3 https://youtu.be/GTJ66OkQUZM Spock ID# 51467 Manhattan Animal Care Center Sex: Male Age: 12-18 mos old (at their page the shelter writes 4 yrs old, but we follow the shelter´s medical notes) Primary Color: White Secondary Color: Black Weight: 40.8 lbs. Summary: Spock approached the assessor with a soft body. He was a bit mouthy during the assessment and grabbed the leash in his mouth several times while vocalizing. He allowed all handling. Summary: Spock may be most compatible with other exuberantly playful dogs. Summary (1): 12/29: When off leash with another dog, Spock engages in bouncy play. He will bark at the female greeter dog when she does not reciprocate his solicitations. Summary (2): 1/2: Spock is vocal at play. Summary (3): 1/5: Spock engages in bouncy, mouthy play with another male dog. Date of intake: 28-Dec-2018 Summary: Loose body, allowed handling. Grabbed leash and tugged while growling Date of initial: 28-Dec-2018 Summary: Growled ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Spock so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Recommendations: No young children (under 5) Recommendations comments: No young children: Due to the mouthing and high level of leash biting seen at the care center, we recommend a home without young children. Potential challenges: Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition Leash-biting Potential challenges comments: Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Spock has shown some mouthiness in the care center. Little pressure is applied, but this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever Spock's teeth make contact with skin). Leash-biting: Spock is quick to grab the leash in his mouth. We recommend walking him with a toy to dissuade him from grabbing the leash. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach him to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash. So like around 10 chapters of webnovel 镇魂 is 4 chapters of print version. I just finished reading the 4th chapter of my print copy and it ended on page 46.
I’ve been doing Listening Reading Method with Guardian (the webnovel and audiobook by Avenuex that matches it). And then I’ve also been reading my print version to see the differences and so my readings mostly kept up with my L R Method as far as “story covered so far.” I know I’m slightly behind L R method since I’ve also done webnovel chapters 11-12 where Shen Wei talks with zhao yunlan, and zhu Hong has a scene.
Anyway that’s just a bit of perspective lol. Reading the print novel is wild because sometimes a chapter is 5 pages and takes about 20 minutes to read like roughly the amount of time the webnovel chapters audiobook chapters take to read aloud. Then other times a chapter is 20-30 pages and I’m like!!! When will I get through this?!!! And it takes like an hour... or worse... ;-;
In related things: doing L R Method continues to have some nice benefits. It has improved how easy extensive reading (this specific novel is) by a lot. Every page only has 1-2 unknown words now, and they’re unknown words I can figure out from context. Idioms I can generally either remember or figure out now. So in general, reading feels like that “reading ease” you supposedly feel at 98% comprehension. I may not know all the Hanzi fully (as in both pronunciation and meaning). but because I’ve now heard many of the words in this novel and often seen them with definitions during L R method, I can now recognize what I’m looking at - like I said, pretty much all of the time. I encounter a few unknown words but even them i can fully grasp with context. I think there were only one or two instances in 10 pages where I felt I could only guess the meaning of a word vaguely - rather than being pretty sure of the meaning upon guessing. So it feels? A lot like reading English in terms of ease (not speed though).
So I would definitely say doing L R Method a little bit could be a good way to “prestudy” a chapter or novel if you know you’ll need to up your vocab for the material. Alternatives of course are: reading intensively until you’ve acquired enough vocab to stop having to do that - which is what I did with 寒舍 and it took ~30 chapters to feel possible to extensively read and I still look up words frequently at ~60 chapters in because reading extensively is Not at 98% comprehension it’s just overall meaning and some details comprehension. (Although reading intensively until not needed would probably work well with stuff only a little above my comprehension level since it probably wouldn’t take as many chapters - intensive reading is also good practice for Hanzi lookups for me to be honest as far as constant pronunciation checks). Another alternative is flashcards/prestudy lists - which I don’t do generally unless I’m a total beginner (I’ve done this to learn 2000 words, and for my HSK graded readers I pre-studied the vocab lists in the back of the books first). For me that works best at beginner stage when payoff is highest, or when I’m using a material tailor made for this like graded readers (also that zhitool website I linked that I’ll link to this later - had a list generating tool to do this with any reading if you like this way). Then there’s L R Method as reading “pre-study”. What I find helpful about L R method is: if you learn better with audio it helps remember, it provides context which helps with comprehension, and it involves repetition so you practice seeing a word/then word with definition, audio with text/audio without text. The plus is the repetition helps it stick and be experienced in different ways, the weakness of this is there’s limited time to look up anything in depth (a benefit of intensive reading instead, or even extensive reading when I have more time to actually contemplate Hanzi and look at them). What helps with the L R Methods pre-study is I pick up the vast majority of the words in a chapter somewhat (I would probably have even more success if I did step 3 multiple times), which makes overall comprehension later when extensively reading much better. I also gain an internal listening memory for a lot of the words I picked up - helping me read aloud later, helping me remember some Hanzi pronunciations better (I think Doing L R method shadowing step would help more but I don’t do that often). However, since times limited during L R Method steps (since it’s at the speed of audio), the things I find hardest to pick up I generally still end up missing. So intensive or extensive reading giving me more time to contemplate those parts definitely helps. The inner reading voice is a benefit I didn’t think I’d get but am definitely starting to get.
And again, extensive reading practices some skills none of the other activities do: trusting in my own abilities alone to recognize Hanzi, to recognize meaning in context, to figure out idioms. Challenging myself without help to recognize and figure out what’s vaguely familiar but not perfectly remembered yet (which I think ultimately helps me remember those things better), relying on myself to remember the sounds. And then in general: strengthening my ability to recognize what I do understand (since any those other things above I have tools to rely on if I doubt my own understanding), strengthening general reading skills like grammar comprehension, and as those strengthen eventually improving reading speed. Those things that intensive reading can’t really help me improve in, and L R Method doesn’t necessarily give me the time to focus on.
I mean seems pretty obvious lol ToT as usual these notes are for myself. In case I forget ToT
from what I’ve been figuring out, I’m going to try extensively reading something easier again soon. To improve all those extensive reading skills more. While I can extensively read guardian right now, it is still written in a way where even if I know nearly all words they’re newly learned, even if I can figure out all unknown words right now it’s a matter of “I JUST developed the knowledge needed to recognize them” so I think it’s still sort of like... when you’re 9 and you could read an adult novel technically skills wise but it might still be easier to read stuff closer to ur level and improve speed/etc more first. Guardian is taking So Long to read rn lol. Compared to 小王子 which took a handful of days. I’d rather practice with a few more books that take me a week each, build up my reading skill more - more pages read more practice right?

Is calorie counting a good idea?
When starting to follow New Year’s resolutions of being healthier, losing or gaining weight, many people implement calorie counting in their diets. It is so easy to do that nowadays. Earlier, when calorie counting was less popular, the only way to do it would be purchasing a chart with names of different foods and their calorie counts next to them. Most people would stick these on their cupboards or fridges and after eating their meal would have to manually add the calories on a sheet of paper. However, now it is so much easier to keep track of the calories. There are numerous apps on smart phones that allow you to put in the name of the product or even scan the barcode and it immediately pops up with the macronutrient count. Calorie counting can be useful, because sometimes people tend to perceive the calorie density of foods incorrectly. As well as that, it might become an obsession.

The positive effect
Counting calories can be extremely beneficial for people who are trying to lose weight. A study found that the individuals who consistently tracked their calories lost around 3.3kg more weight than those who did not (Burke, Sevick & Wang, 2011). Firstly, in many cases, people have gained weight, because they thought they were not eating a lot, but in reality – they were. It is very easy to overdo it with the servings, as most people find it hard to measure 45 grams of cereal (recommended daily serving) when pouring it into a bowl. Secondly, some people fail to understand that healthy does not equal low in calories. Some vegetables can be extremely dense in calories and are not suitable for eating when trying to lose weight. An example of this is an avocado – a regular avocado weighs around 170g and it can be up to 272 calories (FoodData Central, 2020). However, people rarely eat avocado on its own. Many people enjoy mashed avocado on toast for their breakfast. Two pieces of white toast are another 265 calories! And if you want to add a tablespoon of butter to enhance the taste of your toast, you can add another 102 calories to the final count. This comes to 639 calories for a “light” breakfast. Avocado toast being healthy is debatable, but it is definitely not low in calories. Meanwhile, this misconception can be avoided while regularly tracking your calorie intake, as the app would tell you the amount and you would probably decide to have a bowl of fruit instead.
Do you think you perceive calories how they really are?
Answer these five questions and check your results to see if you know your calories (answers can be found after the reference list).

The negative side
On the other hand, calorie counting can become negative. First of all, blindly trusting calories is not a good idea – some foods are high in calories, but they are unprocessed and healthier. Misunderstanding this fact can lead to poor choices of processed, low in macronutrients foods, such as diet sodas. When counting calories, it is extremely important to look into the fat, protein and carbohydrate count of the product.
Secondly, calorie counting can easily become an obsession and lead to serious eating disorders (Qing, 2016). It can become a very immersive activity. The symptoms of calorie counting obsession are usually re-counting the calorie intake multiple times throughout the day, stressing about the nutritional value of future meals. This can have an extremely negative tool on a person’s mental health.
At the same time, calorie counting can be misleading, as according to Ellis, Fuller and Wollstonecroft (2012) each gut absorbs calories differently. While some people’s stomachs can absorb more nutrients and calories, others’ do not do it as well.
Another downside is that the nutrients, as well as calories highly vary on the season, variety and ripeness when it comes to fresh produce. Fruit and vegetables that are riper tend to be higher in calories than ones that were harvested not during their prime season (Nichols, 2016). There is no way that people working on the calorie counting apps could have evaluated every variety of tomato at its different growth stages.
Finally, the macronutrients of the foods a person eats can influence the number of calories burned. A study that compared three different diets – low-fat, low-glycaemic and low-carb found that people who followed a low-carb diet burned 350 calories more during exercise, than others (Ebbeling, Swain, Feldman, Wong, Hachey, Garcia-Lago & Ludwig, 2012) To explain this, it is important to consider the macronutrients. When focusing onto calories, the person is most likely to consume less fat, but more carbohydrates, which can contribute to weight gain.
Alternatives
Instead of counting calories, experts advise simply listening to your body and eating what you feel like at that moment (Dahlgren, 2019). When losing weight, it is beneficial to mindful eating, more specifically – eating slowly, enjoying your food and not distracting yourself with TV, reading while eating. This helps the person understand when they are full more accurately and prevents overeating.
Mindful eating tips. Retrieved from www.googleimages.com
Also, everyone should be more hedonic when choosing their meals. If you are really craving a fatty burger, just have it! The chances are that if you desire it, you will try to change your mind and eat another meal, but afterwards still crave the burger and just decide to eat it anyways!
My thoughts
I believe that calorie counting can be very beneficial to an individual’s goal to lose or gain weight. This is why, I used to strictly track calories on my phone, when I was reaching my strict fitness goals. However, now, that I changed my workouts completely, by quitting weight-lifting and sticking to thai boxing, which is more cardio-based, I stopped. This is because that I burn a lot more calories than I would when I was mainly working on my strength with weights, so I am not worried about gaining weight. When I was counting my calories, sometimes I felt like it really negatively interfered with my daily life. Just the fact that I did not allow myself any sugary sweets, made me want them even more. If I went over my recommended calorie count, I would judge myself and feel bad about it the whole day.
When it comes to calorie counting, everyone is different. It works for some people, but others might find it very stressful. It is worth trying, but everyone should be careful and not get completely immersed in it.
