-A few updates-

General Stuff:

Well, life has been generally pretty busy. And while that’s made it a little more challenging to do daily doodles as of late, it’s been alright for the most part. Some of you may have noticed though that a lot of my daily posts have been showing up as much as 1-2 hours later than the regular time. Unfortunately with all the stuff I’ve been taking care of lately, putting a daily doodle/drawing on top of the pile means it’ll be late very often. I kind of have an unofficial job irl now so this stuffs hard to juggle sometimes.

Hornet’s Strange Adventures:

Initially I was hoping to get a lot of stuff done for this game during October but some recent job stuff is making that pretty hard to do. I probably won’t be able to make any significant progress on this game until very late October and into November. So if you were looking forward to big updates on progress, it sadly won’t be for a while, sorry. Outside of that though, I can at least say that all the routes have been thoroughly planned out from start to finish including the secret route. This includes rewriting some choices that have already been seen during the game’s time on ssed.

About Doodle Requests

I haven’t had them open for a while anyway, but I’ve finally come to the decision that I will no longer be taking doodle requests through tumblr asks/inbox. As fun as it was in the beginning, I often found myself trying to fulfill requests on the daily and that was stressful. That being said, it doesn’t necessarily mean I’m stopping requests entirely. I just don’t really want to do them for free anymore. Since I’m on Hornet Journal Series still, it’s a long way away before anything happens, but there’s a likely chance I’ll only do commissioned doodle requests whenever they re-open. We’ll see as it gets closer though.

Thoughts on taking an actual break:

I’ve mentioned this a lot in the past both here on ssed and on my main blog, but I’ve been seriously considering taking a break. Like a real one. Not just a “I’m gonna stockpile a bunch of doodles and pick it back up when I run out” kind of break. Especially with the way life has been going lately (mostly positive at least), I feel as though I may have to retire from daily doodles somewhat soon if there is no official news by the time this blog hits its 2 year mark. Don’t get me wrong I’ve loved doing this for the almost two years that it’s been going but at some point I’ll have to move on from this whether I like it or not. Does this mean that activity on this blog stops altogether? No. I just won’t be doing daily doodles anymore. There’s a more likely chance it would end up being weekly, or possibly monthly. Just not daily anymore.

Whatever the case, that decision will be considered more when 2 years gets closer. Until then just enjoy daily doodles while they’re still here!

summary - you convince your girlfriend to celebrate valentine's day with you.

a/n - first time writing abby so bare with me, so maybe ooc abby, like 600 wc for both, was supposed to be a headcanon but turned into whatever this is, fluffiest fluff, actually edited and proofread this time, lemme know if you want me to write more for abby or headcanon-like stuff, anyway enjoy, happy valentine's!

The concept of holidays were obviously nonexistent in the midst of an apocalypse, especially Valentine’s Day. There were remnants of it in run down convenience and grocery stores—Shitty flowers left for dead and chocolate boxes rummaged in a hope for some sustenance— but nobody cared enough to set aside time to acknowledge the old holiday. They were too busy fighting to survive.

So when you brought it up, you weren’t expecting a completely receptive reaction or even a positive one. It was indeed one of those seemingly meaningless  holidays that even then people forgot about. Yet it wormed its way into your mind after recently learning about it. Imagining a day where you could just appreciate your girlfriend was no doubt sappy, but now was the chance to test out your curiosity, right?

“I just don’t get why it’s important,” Abby would say when you brought it up. Her brows furrowed as she pushed the sticks and uneven longs around in the fireplace. The fire was small but much needed to combat the cold air that seeped through the walls come night. 

Your lips pursed as you thought of a way to put it that didn’t make you sound insane. The idea very much was. There were some days when you were worried the cold would freeze your fingers off and draw away all the game, and now you were concerned with celebrating. “It’s about..love and appreciation, but not like the one with the big dinners..uh, thanksgiving? Yeah, it’s different than that.” 

“I do know what Valentine’s day is.” She commented dryly, sitting back next to you at the foot of your shared bed, wrapping her arm around you. 

“How was I supposed to know?” You poked her cheek. 

Abby swatted your hand away playfully, chuckling as she pulled her head back. “I never said I didn’t know about it. I just don’t get it.” She grabbed your hand from her cheek and intertwined your fingers. Her face soon grew serious as she took in the combined warmth of your body and the fire. How nice it felt to have someone to be so close to. “I appreciate you already.” She said genuinely.

Her words made your brain blank and your heart beat faster. Everything about this moment was making you feel like some kind of sap. 

“I don’t need flowers to show you how I feel.” Quite honestly, she wouldn’t know what to do if you presented her with flowers and a bed of rose petals, if you could even find those in the freezing winter. She wouldn’t hate it..but it sounded like too much.

“What if I just wanna give you flowers or not even flowers— If I just wanna do something special?” Your voice was quiet against the crackling of the fire, like it was a secret for just the two of you. It partly was. Only you got this softer side of Abby. You turned to look up at her, taking in the light blush on her cheeks and dilated eyes. “Just something different from every other day.”

“I..won’t stop you.” She mumbled with a bashful smile, not knowing what to do with the attention. She took in the awe in your eyes, inwardly cursing herself for letting you talk her into yet another pre-outbreak tradition “for the sake of normalcy,” Truth be told, this life with you was the closest she’d ever gotten to normalcy, not having a mission or some type of assignment. She’ll admit it drove her crazy at first: That need to commit every day to something other than surviving. But you helped. 

“Good,” You pressed your lips against hers softly, both hands cupping her jaw, smiling as you took in her satisfied hum. “Cause you couldn’t have anyway.” 

“I—shut up. This better be worth your hassling,” She grabbed your jaw when you pulled away, swiping her thumb against the apple of your cheek. Her hair fell over her shoulder and created some type of curtain around your faces. “Ugh, you did it again.” She groaned, glancing down at your lips. “C’mere.”

Bringing it up to Ellie on the other hand send her into an internal frenzy. You’d have talked about it in a feigned off handed manner, laying on the edge of her bed as you watched her doodle mindlessly. “The stupid holiday with the chocolates and cards?” She mumbled, not thinking much of it. You had probably heard about it from Maria or somebody else who was alive before the outbreak.

You chuckled in response, mentally getting ready for the jokes. “Yeah, that.”

“What about it?” Her brows furrowed as she thought about it some more. Why would you be mentioning it– Oh. “You..wanna celebrate it?” Her hand would stop, hovering over the paper as she was pulled out of her focus. How the hell would she find anything to give you in what was mostly ruins? What would you even want? 

“Do you?” You thought you were being subtle in your line of questioning but she caught the deflection.

“I asked first.” She turned around in her chair to face you, dropping her pencil and leaning forward to grab your hand from under your head. “Do you wanna celebrate Valentine’s Day? The whole love letter and rose’s thing?” She ran her fingertips over your knuckles as she spoke, using you to fidget as she often did hoping you’d just pass it off as affection. She could write you a letter--nah, she’s done that before. Or a song? She already had so many. 

“I mean, it’s not realistic, but—“ You sat and scooted off the bed  to take a seat on the edge of her desk. She immediately took to looking up at you as you tried to explain “It’d be sweet.” You blurted. The words still felt inadequate. “We already do birthdays and Christmas, but it’d just be about us. So..maybe I wanna celebrate it in our own way.”

Ellie waited for you to finish before placing a hand on your thigh, assuring you as if she wasn’t troubleshooting ideas in her head right now. It wasn’t— It was stupid, she had to admit, but it was sweet that you wanted to celebrate being together. It had taken her so long just to realize how much she liked you and then to finally tell you. She couldn’t imagine taking you for granted now. She hummed, thinking about it. “Our own way..how?” 

“Anything. We can..go to that cabin we found a few weeks ago..have alone time..I don’t know.” 

“Mm, abandoned cabin. Sounds romantic.” She said dryly, picking up her pencil to resume doodling, but the inspiration didn’t come. She found herself too distracted by ideas. So instead a messy, unorganized list of ideas made it to the paper. She inwardly rolled her eyes at how quickly she subscribed to the idea.

“You know what I mean,” 

“I’m messing with you. If you want, we can do it.” She insisted with a nonchalant downturn of her lips. The bounce of her leg gave away her true emotions: the weird mix of nervousness and excitement the thought had given her. Her mind being both her gift and curse was already ripping through the possibilities of your reactions based on what she did for you. 

“Really?” You perked up, back straightening almost comically. Ellie had tried not to laugh and the best she could do was a small smile. “You don't think I’m being sappy?”

“I absolutely think you’re being sappy.” She teased, scooting so that she was closer to you. She wrapped her arms around your waist, fidgeting fingers now preoccupied with the stray strings of your hoodie. “But I’ll go along with it because I love doing stupid things with you.” She admitted earnestly, pulling you to be closer. 

“That’s the sappiest thing you’ve ever said to me.” You wrapped your arms around her neck, fingers messing with the baby hairs at the nape of her neck. “And I love it,”

“Nope. It’s all you, you’re rubbing off on me.”

oh joyous day, my our life now and forever mc, Rena Michou!

Just a bunch of doodles for now I'll do a full body ref and make it purettyy later, maybe… ahh side note i need to learn how to draw tam and qiu qwq something just doesn't look quite right.

and now time to ramble about her: (warning very long)

EDIT: WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME IT SAYS 8W3??? she's supposed to be a 8w7 😭😭😭

She was pretty stand-offish and cold to Tam and Qiu when she first met them, she did not like Qiu at all, from her perspective her Ma's moved her to this town in the middle of nowhere, she accidentally goes into someone's backyard (clearly no way for her to know smh) but she's being the better person and apologising only for him to make fun of her??? Terrible manners. Not only that but he's a show off and has an insufferably smug grin. Not to mention he acts like he knows everything (it's okay when she does it, she's not from a random town in the middle of nowhere).

She still lets him tag along when she goes to find the mystery air plane sender because she's nice like that (how hard was that jeez!) And while Tamarack is loud, she looks a hell of a lot better in comparison to Qiu. Anyway this goes on for a bit with her being annoyed at basically everything he does and tolerating his presence because she's nice (it's because of Tamarack and her Ma). She is however very startled when Qiu gives her the welcome note, she definitely thinks it's a prank or disingenuous, but gosh dang it, he looks so happy she's polite so she'll say thank you.

She starts liking him after the park where they race and she wins, and opposite to all her expectations - because this is something he's been most proud of, he doesn't get upset or annoyed he's even more happy somehow… And that's when she has to accept everything she thought about this guy was wrong.

Some more random stuff about her personality and yeah:

She doesn't get most jokes, and she can't tell teasing apart from being genuinely cruel which is- yeah mostly why she doesn't get along with Qiu at first.

She thrives on the challenge, she's always down to do the riskiest thing for the greatest reward, she likes beating the odds (and proving people wrong).

She places a lot of value on following rules and being polite, two things that have been repeated to her basically her whole life (because she struggled with that growing up), so now she's very opinionated/black and white about it.

She likes listening to rock/alternative music mostly, probably tries picking up the guitar in the future- she'd be bad at it.

She likes strategy and puzzle videogames, absolutely terrible at racing, fighting, and rhythm games.

She's got no problem telling someone no respectfully and doesn't like to compromise at all - but even more she hates other people doing her favours, so she takes the path of least inconvenience.

She really wants to be independent and prove she's responsible and can take care of herself, however she still really respects her Ma

She values getting good grades a lot and she's pretty advanced however her Ma didn't want her to move up grades because of her social development. She is not a big fan of this, probably one of their biggest arguments.

She wasn't exactly bullied persay- but she didn't have any friends before Tam, which is probably in part due to her prickly personality but yeah, not a big fan of people her age.

Current Plans + Musings

I don't plan on playing Exedra to the degree I did for Magia Record, or playing it at all. Because of that, I won't be taking an active role in the community and archiving anything for it. Of course, if Exedra has like amazing gameplay and stories then this is all subject to change, but for now I think I'm done with phone games.

The two youtube channels will stay up and I'll check em periodically to make sure there aren't copyright strikes against the content. I've saved all my raw files, especially for the battle animations, so I can remake them in the future if the music ever becomes a problem for some reason.

Google Drive will stay up until Google rots away. I haven't recorded footage in a long time (as in stories, I do for the character doppels and such), but I'll upload things if they're sent to me.

Magia Union Translations still plans on translating things and making videos, especially leading up to the end, but also for after the game is over for whatever wasn't made in time. I'm not sure what form this will take in the future-- if it'll be manual captions added to the videos or not, but I know it WILL happen.

As for this blog, I'm not going to delete it or anything. However I'm going to be taking a step back. I'd like to say that I'll do liveblogs but I mean... *gestures at blog* I've been saying that for years and the only one I really did successfully was the Oriko one lmao. Ahhh oh well.

I'll have more words later, but it was really fun to be part of a fandom experience like this. I'm excited to work on my own original story projects though and quiet down a bit.

When I started this blog, I never expected it to have people actually read it. Or look at it. I just wanted a place to gush about how much fun I was having. I didn't even want to tag the posts with "Magia Record" at first because I was terrified people would be mean at me, haha.

But I'm glad I did. I made so many good friends through this game. I'm glad it existed. And it made me happy to have a place where people cared about what I had to say. Some folks actually got their news from here, can you imagine that? They had notifications turned on for this blog. My god.

Anyways, I'm going to be here for the next two months, and tomorrow I'll start reblogging fan projects and initiatives, plus general news. Maybe this blog will turn into a dumping site for art and fanfic reblogs, who knows. I might watch the remaining stuff and add various thoughts here and there.

Otherwise, you can find me on my main blog @malignmuffin, which only reblogs stuff (I don't talk much if at all there). I have another tumblr blog for my comic, but I think I'll reshare the name once I actually have content you can look at on it. It's pretty bare bones for the moment.

Actually it'll be funny if the end of this game is what makes me finally work on it again. I was in the process of working on it when NA came out, and it totally derailed me. Stopped writing, drawing, just focused on this silly little phone game. Now it's like those five years have gone by and I'm going back to where I started, except I think my lil comic is going to be a bit better than it was before. If I actually make it, that is.

If I ever do actually make my comic and start posting it, I'll be sure to update y'all here. hah

Anyways, thanks for being on this wild ride with me. The memories have been great, and I'm glad I had this experience, even if it had to end.

trying to have proper structure is always what makes me drop off the face of the earth so instead just have this vergil with long hair

headcanons and stuff under the cut

so honestly this whole thing started when i saw this promo pic for a dmc x megaman collab thats like 2 or 3 years old

this is like a megaman game or smthn i know NOTHING abt megaman except that this game is called rocketman x dive and it had a dmc collab

and so apparently theres this character named zero (megaman fans trying not to kill me like 👀)

but anyway yeah so zero has rlly long hair so when they collab-ed they made vergil have a braid and yeah that was basically curtains

it started out as just smthn i wanted to draw once, while still feeling more inclined to the canon vergil design, but while drawing it he kept looking like his mom and it was pulling all sorts of weird heartstrings i didnt expect from my own art and i was just thinking abt it a lot

it almost makes sense canonically if vergil had long hair and no cause hear me out

first of all the aforementioned heartstrings that were pulled and the million more that could be by the sparda twins bearing family resemblance to both of their parents, not just their father

and two, i dont see dante as being actually dirty about his hair, but care is minimal. he probably wouldnt let his hair grow out; he might prefer it down, but as soon as it starts getting caught in is mouth when he tries to eat pizza hes probably cutting it himself (def not going out for that 🤪)

vergil on the other hand might easily just let his hair grow, not due to laziness, but quite the opposite honestly. for one, he doesnt see the necessity of cutting it, he can braid it like once a week and its out of the way fine, so theres no functionality issues; and two, he kinda strikes me as the type of person to consider his body too sacred to do something as visually vain as cut his hair just to look manly, i think hed be far more focused on being actually powerful, and having long hair isnt enough of a hindrance for cutting it to even really cross his mind

plus the potential is endless

imagine, the last time dante saw him they were kids right ? so vergils hair was short then because he was a kid

the shock factor the next time in the timeline when they meet and vergil is sporting a braid down half his back (it only reaches the length in my drawing by like dmc 5)

and you know dantes inevitably gonna make some witty quip about calling him rapunzel, which almost gets him murdered then and there at the hands of vergils wrath (maybe the first time he considers cutting it, but he wouldnt; if for no other reason than spite, but hes also more self confident than that)

Blade and Kafka got too silly!

Alternatively - Kafka's version!

You looked at the two people standing in front of you. Though they weren’t exactly paying attention, they were still there and whispering stuff amongst themselves. 

You recognised both to be Kafka and Blade from the Xianzhou wanted posters. Jing Yuan had warned you of possible dangers of the job he offered you. Being his secretary certainly wasn’t easy, and the situation you’d gotten yourself into wasn’t helping.

Nevertheless, you never expected to actually get kidnapped. Especially by those two. 

“Oh~ you’re awake” Kafka suddenly spoke up, bringing both hers, and Blade’s, attention to you. 

You quietly sighed and looked at the wall to your right. A simple, light grey wall, with a few scratches and indents. 

“Let me get straight to the point…” she continued, her tone switching to a more serious one as she walked closer to you. 

“We brought you here for information. Of course… Silver Wolf told me of your position, it’s quite easy to infer you know as much as that General does.” 

You could faintly hear Blade scoff in the background, as he stayed where he was. Though, ‘Silver Wolf’ was a name you didn’t recognise. In fact, you had no idea there was a third member of the stellaron hunters, which then brings about the question: are there more?

Deciding not to think about it too much, you looked back at Kafka and narrowed your eyes. 

“I have the right to remain silent” 

Kafka only chuckled as she heard your reply. 

“Maybe on the Xianzhou” she rejoiced, before turning around and walking back towards Blade, though stopping half-way for some reason. She turned to look over her shoulder at you before chuckling again. 

“So…-” she was about to say something, when a short girl with grey hair slammed the door open, holding a gaming console in her hands. 

“Kafka, you’d said you’d buy me that game today. Let’s go, you owe it to me.” She exclaimed, crossing her arms. 

“I did do that, didn’t I?” Kafka pondered 

“Well… I suppose i can come along. Let’s go, silver wolf!” She starts walking towards the door, when, out of nowhere, Blade draws his sword on her, stopping her from leaving.

He glared at her, making his annoyance clear. 

“And I’m supposed to stay here whilst you’re gone?” 

“That’s right. I’m sure you can handle this, Bladie. It’s not a difficult task to get information out of someone~” the woman grinned and pushed his sword to the side, casually continuing her walk to the shorter girl. 

“Well then, I’ll be leaving now. We’ll be gone a while, anyway… bye!~” she exclaimed, taking the girl, whom you now know to be Silver Wolf, with her and shutting the door. 

“Kafka…” he hissed, keeping his glare fixated on the door for a while. It was safe to say you felt… endangered… he certainly wasn’t happy, and if you didn’t cooperate, he’d probably turn to violence. Though you couldn’t be completely sure. You’d only heard stories about him from Jing Yuan. 

“So….” You dragged out the ‘o’ sound, causing him to turn his glare to you.

You chuckled nervously, as he sheathed his sword and went to sit down, seemingly gathering his thoughts before finally looking back at you. 

“Tell me what you know and we won’t have a problem.” Blade dictated, as if he wasn’t giving you a choice. However, you’re good at finding loopholes and getting out of such situations… as new as being kidnapped may be… 

You pretended to think for a while, glancing back at the slightly damaged wall to your right. 

“Hm… no… I don’t think I will” 

“I’m not giving you a say in the matter.” He immediately replied, in a harsher tone than before. 

“So unfortunate…” you said, sighing very over-dramatically. You could tell you were getting on his nerves, although, you didn’t really care.

You assumed that, since they want information, he won’t harm you in any way. 

Blade glared at you, sighing. 

“Tell me what you know. If you just hand over the information then you won’t have to stay here any longer.” 

“Tempting, tempting….” you repeated before adding “but what if I want to stay here?” 

“And why would you want that?” He asked, confused. 

You stood in silence for a moment, giving him a deadpan look.

“Have you even seen yourself?!” You exclaimed, using your hand to motion at him. Blade looked at you, his confusion not waning. 

“What?” He asked after a moment, still not understanding what you meant. 

You stood confidently, placing your hand on your chin, in a thinking pose whilst looking at him with a slight smirk. 

“Well, you heard me! There’s a whole 5-star meal sitting in front of me!” 

“What?” He asked again in slight disbelief, slightly sitting up in his seat. 

“What? I’m not wrong!” You laughed, looking him up and down before adding to your sentence. 

“My bad, 5 stars doesn’t cover it. However, 3 Michelin stars does!” 

He opened his mouth, as if to speak, though he remained silent. Blade leaned forward and placed his hands on his face, thinking for a moment. After a few minutes, he just barely moved his hands, enough to see you. He had a mix of emotions visible on his face, the most prominent one being absolute, utter confusion. 

“What? It’s not like I’m lying!” 

He began muttering something to himself, however it was so muffled that you could only make out a few words. 

“Don’t do…- irrational…- Kafka said…- important…” 

“What’re you muttering about?” You asked, curiously, as you walked a bit closer to him. 

“I’m trying my hardest not to get rid of you.” He replied, not even sparing you a glance. Though you most certainly could see just the faintest hint of a blush on his face. 

“Oh come on! You wouldn’t do that~” you retaliated, taking on a more teasing tone now.

“Only because-“ he tried replying, however, you decided to interrupt him mid-sentence.

“Say, do you wanna, like… go out sometime?” 

“Kafka was right…” he sighed “You’re absolutely insane.”

“No! I’m simply telling the truth.” You crossed your arms and leaned your weight on one foot. “That’s great. Yeah no, I’m not going out with you.” 

“Why?” 

“Because I said so.” 

You sighed, once again over-dramatically, and leaned against the nearest wall. 

“Alright, fine… but I’m not giving up any information that could betray the Luofu.” 

“I’m leaving the moment Kafka returns.” He sighed and sat up again, leaning against the back of the chair. He’s probably hoping for Kafka to return soon. 

However, she didn’t return as soon as he hoped. Kafka returned a few hours later, absolutely exhausted so she only came to check on the both of you, whom were sitting in silence. 

“Bladie, I’m going to bed. You stay here a while longer. I’m convinced Silvie won’t be of help to you. She had me buy her like 10 games!” She mumbled and waved, right as blade was about to leave when he saw her. Kafka shut the door behind her, leaving the two of you alone… again. 

“So… about my earlier proposition-”

“No. Shut up.”

Finally getting to overdue requests !! ^_^

Also uh my headcanons r too long so I’ll try to make them shorter from now on so they’re easier to read HELP SORRY I be #yapping too much

Andre and Cal on a date,,

Most of the time, they don’t really call it a date— they don’t even acknowledge their relationship as dating. They say they love each other, call each other affectionate names in private, but they never made it official that they are a thing, even though they behave how couples do. They kiss, cuddle, fuck, do stuff together, argue, fight…

When they do say “date”, it’s mainly Cal who brings up if Andre wants to “go on a date” with him. However, they tend to prefer directly asking each other to go somewhere private. Especially Andre.

Admittedly, toward the beginning of their romantic companionship, they both felt too insecure about bringing up going on “dates” with each other. So eventually, Cal was the first one to ask Andre straight-up, having to fight back against his social apprehension. To which, Andre accepted. He generally is always up to going on tender outings with Cal unless his parents or cousin need him for something at that time.

Now, Andre no longer feels as awkward as he did before. A lot of the times he just expects Cal to bring up going out together. He’s a pretty laid back guy when it comes to that, not minding whenever Cal requests it, as long as it isn’t on one of their mission days. As a result, Cal is usually the one to initiate plans for outings together. In a way, it’s kind of like a routine.

Andre and Cal nearly always go to quiet places. They prefer less chaotic, more undisturbed atmospheres, mostly because they both get annoyed when too many people are around them or crowding them, so they don’t attend concerts too often. They aren’t very fond of parties either, but will go under difference circumstances. Not that they’d be invited to their classmates’ parties anyway.

Generally, Andre and Cal like to go out to the movies together. But they don’t kiss during the movie. Instead, they laugh at different scenes together, especially if it’s some campy, low-budget horror movie. Cal occasionally tries to sneak edibles into the movie theater, but Andre always makes him put it away, quietly scolding him about his carelessness toward getting high in public. During the movie, Andre tends to pat Cal’s thigh or knee, and Cal likes to place his hand over Andre’s hand or knee— even lean his head on his shoulder. You best believe they’re sharing a big bag of popcorn or candy, too.

Sometimes they’ll hang around at empty parking lots as well. Despite the blatantly unsettling vibes present with the dim streetlights being the only sources of light in the parking lot, with both boys being aware that the setting is like “something straight out of a horror movie”, the melancholic solitude of the late-night vacant buildings still draws the two in. However, Andre and Cal refuse to get out of Andre’s car, since he carries pocket knives in his car’s front compartment just in case LMAO. They’ll sit and get comfortable, maybe talk for a while, with their hands tightly locked together.

They’ll even just drive around town in Andre’s car aimlessly, listening to music on the radio and getting some snacks and slushies at the gas station, so their tongues will be purple by the end of the night. ;3

And they also like to head to the CD store to both seriously purchase music, and individually— yet jokingly— get pornographic movies. It was Cal’s idea initially, and now it became kind of like a stupid “game” where they both gauge each other’s reactions when they put it on.

Andre and Cal do enjoy spending time together when they can. I think it’s also worth mentioning that they leave their camcorder behind, so that they can stay in the moment, essentially. Their outings can serve as simple— yet temporary— distractions from their Zero Day plans.

I recently watched all 3 films, still need to finish Knuckles, but man. I didn't expect to dive back into my old obsession this year, friggin' loved Sonic 3 though.... and now I'm in Sonadow hell. I'm also currently playing through Sonic x Shadow Generations to get a taste on what I've missed out on! I might check out Prime if I have the time for it, but I dunno.

Anyway, I needed an outlet for my shit, so here we are!

For the sake of my own sanity and because it fits my vibe in ships a little more, I'll be keeping my work to film verse most of the time. (That and I just love alot of things about the film's universe anyway.) oh, Heyo all.

I wasn’t expecting to get responses immediately after posting that check-up post, especially from those that already knew from the community (I thought some of them moved on from tnmn tbh)- but yeah, I’m here, I kind of returned, so here I am. I’m going to explain a lot of things, so be warned for walls of text.

So it’s been a couple of months since I left the blog. During those months(especially June holidays), I had been stressing out over whether I should return to the blog or not. Main reason that held me back was because I was going through a lot at that time, there was school, lots of personal problems and major exams were also coming on for me— But after a while, things had calmed down, and I had forgotten about the blog. Later on, I kinda made a deal with myself that “hey, after my end of year exams, maybe I can return again?”

So, more time passed after that, I lost interest in tnmn and moved on to do other things. Unfortunately, that means I ran into more problems, more stresses. But somehow, I managed to still stay afloat. Occasionally, I did log onto tumblr to check on how everyone else was doing, and honestly I think this community is still doing pretty great. I also recently got into roblox games(dandy’s world, pressure, regretavator) during my exams. More time rolled by, and after intensives and more suffering, I had finished my end of years(they were honestly easier than expected, actually). And that made me remember the blog and the promise I made to myself months ago.

Honestly, I was quite nervous about returning. I was worried about whether I’d be able to manage the ask blog well, whether I’d fall back into being stressed out again, whether I’d even get used to drawing Steven and the others cause it’s been a long while since I’ve done tnmn stuff, and how would I be able to handle my time wisely if anything starts to cut into my schedule(such as holiday trips, my mom’s friend coming over, yadda yadda). I was even wondering whether I actually wanted to come back to the blog. After pacing back and forth anxiously for the next three days, I put on my big boy pants and well, opened tumblr.

Does this mean Steven blog is back?

I… I guess? I’m getting a bit of second thoughts, but maybe it’ll be better this time?- At some point I’ll put this blog on a test run and hope that things would go well for me. Maybe I’d manage. I think. I’m still a bit anxious.

More AnoVerse Sillies ✨

Hey guys :) guess who has been up to stuff again.

Been messing around with AnoVerse yet again. No game dev stuff this time though - instead, been hard at work drawing and writing. Yeah I know one day I'll make up my mind on a format for my stuff lol

REDESIGNS 🎨

First thing you might notice about the above doodle - I'm working on redesigning Deejay 😲 oh my goodness !! Finally !! How crazy !! For real though, Deejay needed an update badly. He has been that same design that was once just my online sona for years and while I can't remove what makes him Deejay, I can differentiate him in some ways - especially since Joyscape has claimed the top hat for good !

So, here's a current look at the design that's upcoming ! The one above is more final, but below you can see the initial coloured concept when I was finally getting to closer to it.

He's not insanely different obviously. His hair is more messy with some spikyness to it. His clothes are overall a tad baggier. Pants are now a light brown instead of grey. Blue shirt. Etc etc. Y'all can see it.

The other 3 may get slight changes - but I don't see anyone else needing a major change anytime soon. Ave you can see some slight changes - his skin colour I wanted to lean towards being more red due to his form coming from a red liquid rather than being human. Minister is well... Minister. A tad chunkier maybe, but besides that haha. And a reminder that nothing is final ever lol

Oh my goodness !! JustDaniel !! Actually making something that feels final !! Preposterious.

No but for real, I've got some AnoVerse book writing being done. 3 chapters into it and feeling good. Progress has been steady and I'm mostly writing for myself... but. A recent university assignment helped me see more potential in my writing, so I'm curious as to what to do.

This current AnoVerse story I'll release for free when it's done I know that for sure - however I'm curious.

Frankly right now I don't know what I expect doing this poll. My reach here is minimal, 24 people actually following the blog and it's my besties mostly to my knowledge hi besties by the way lmao. But I'd be highly interested in knowing the answers anyway because I'd probably only need about 10 pre-orders to justify it if I did physical books. I've done the research, I know what my pricing would be, etc etc. So y'know yeah. Might be fun to do.

lol well i did offer! beliefs is a strong word, tbh. more of a like ... is this stuff true? i don't know. but if i were writing a story where i wanted to have tension in that relationship, these are the places i would be inclined to introduce that tension. maybe there is tension in some of these places in real life! that's none of my beeswax.*

anyway: some places i think it is plausible that there's tension in the relationship, or at least plausible enough to play with in fiction. receipts on these where i can find them, sorry if they're paywalled but them's the breaks.

back in 2022 matthew was on the athletic hockey podcast and he talked about feeling "like a babysitter" when keith visits and how much keith enjoys being one of the guys. now mostly i think they probably have a pretty good time, but babysitter is a word choice there. i don't think it's a stretch to imagine that having your retired dad show up at your workplace and becoming the life of the party to relive his glory days could be ... trying.

not to beat around the bush but they're both opinionated guys! opinionated and chatty! and as a result you get: keith slamming the panthers on the radio. matthew sticking his nose into brady's contract negotiations (brady being grimace emoji about it). like, we know for a fact that the radio thing bothered matthew! and there's plenty of opportunities for one or both of them to offer unsolicited opinions that don't go over well.

to the previous point: i considered not including that because it's not as speculative as the others on the list. but it's definitely something i'd draw on if i was writing a story where their relationship is tense.

look, i'm not a man and not only am i not a man but i don't have any brothers and my dad died four and a half years ago and he never talked about his dad. so i can't claim to be an expert on the fathers-and-sons relationship dynamic. but why would i let that stop me from speculating wildly!

anyway: legacies. oldest sons. expectations. @ohtemporas touched on this briefly earlier, the way there's often an extra pressure on the oldest kid to be the same-gender-parent's legacy. do what i did. represent me well in the world. and i don't think it's even particularly weird for that to potentially lead to some conflicting feelings if all that legacy building leads to you being surpassed in some way. that's just human! especially for competitive people, and as i have said on this website before: no one becomes a professional athlete without being competitive.

here's keith being presented with matthew's 99th point puck from the 21-22 season, which his then-teammate did up with the writing for this specific purpose. chantal thinks this is SO funny. do think maybe being conflicted about being surpassed makes him not proud of matthew? no. but people can be complicated.

speaking of people being complicated: that one post-game after matthew scored 5 points on the blues. i think the tension between keith wanting his own team's success and wanting his sons' success isn't something people were making up out of whole cloth. but maybe it was especially noticeable when matthew was still in the western conference? i feel like it got dialed back after the trade. lol.

i'm mentioning it only because otherwise someone else might: i don't care about the hat thing. i think it's silly. if i was asked to throw my favorite hat onto the ice at an nhl game just because some schlub scored three goals i probably wouldn't.

a few concluding thoughts

i don't think any of this means they have a bad relationship! mostly i think that no two people have a perfect relationship where they agree on everything and never butt into each other's business uninvited and never hurt each other's feelings, because that's impossible.

i'm not making some counterpoint list of all the reasons i think they love each other. someone else can. i don't think having high expectations of someone means you hate them and i don't think anyone spends their time and money following their son's hockey team around the country on a road trip hoping to see him score his 100th point out of hatred or spite.

maybe i'm wrong about all of this and they've hated each other since 2002 and someday we'll get a tell-all story and people can come into my ask box or whatever and tell me how wrong i was. i don't care. all rpf characterization is fake. i watched keith froth at the mouth in the stands at the 2016 wjc every time someone so much as breathed on matthew, though, so i don't think i'm wrong.

So, I have more Illyana thoughts... I apologize for rambling again, but this is apparently how my brain works now...

The next episode of X-Men '97 is Motendo / Lifedeath Part 1, an episode I have been eagerly anticipating since the reveal of this key art related to it.

There she is! There's Magik! It's my girl!

Now, it is possible she's just in the art because Morph transformed into her in Episode 3. The fact Storm is in her original '92 design and not her punk attire makes me think this art is not literally reflective of the episode's contents... but if Magik is in it, I am curious what role she may take in it... Let's baselessly speculate! Spoilers for the two comic book storylines we know this episode is drawing from after the cut.

So this episode will be adapting parts of Lifedeath, the iconic Forge/Storm romance arc, and the Abscissa arc with Jubilee. This makes me think this episode is likely to be a three-pronged exploration of what mutants do to gain social status in a world that hates and fears them.

Storm and Forge's arc is about Forge reconsidering his job working with the American government and realizing how has literally created the tools used to oppress his fellow mutants. Storm, meanwhile, has chosen to embrace counter-culturalism openly through her new punk identity, not really caring what the white male flatscan majority thinks about her anymore; Forge's perspective is challenged by her as they begin their romance.

Jubilee's arc is about her encountering a future version of herself who is a slave to Mojo in the Mojoverse and taking actions to ensure that future never comes to pass.

Sunspot's arc in '97 has been about him hiding his mutant gifts, afraid that his parents will not accept him as a mutant. He also self-identified as "one of the good ones" in the first episode. Lot of model minority stuff going on here, as well as some allegorical queer closeted stuff going on here. I am guessing this is the episode where he decides to join the X-Men and come out properly.

With all that in mind... What is Illyana going to be up to, if she is indeed in this episode?

My guess is she would be a foil to Sunspot, as someone who has made it through the emotional journey he is in the middle of. She not only has a mutant gift she is scared about, but she has a literal demonic side. If she has learned to accept herself for who she is and to embrace her demonic powers as a way of protecting herself and those she loves, then maybe Sunspot can do the same with his powers.

This would be casually implying all of Magik's character growth happened off-screen, but this show has a lot of protagonists already and I don't know if they'd have time to delve into the lore of Limbo - and it also may be difficult to do that in a show that is still, nominally at least, for kids...

If they wanted to be really bold, Illyana could also be in a queer relationship that is a foil to the Jubilee/Sunspot relationship - making the "We're hiding this from my parents as I don't want them to know I am a mutant" queer allegory a little more obvious by showing Illyana in a loving queer relationship of which her brother approves. With the episode inspired by the Pryde of the X-Men arcade game, I think it'd be a good place for Pryde to appear if they wanted to make Katyana canon... but Illyana/Dani or Illyana/Xuan also feel possible to me... or, hell, they've said non-mutant characters will cameo like they did in the original cartoon, so maybe they could do Illyana/Nico Minoru or Illyana/Leah. I'd like Illyana/Pryde the most, but honestly I will take anything that makes Sapphik Magik canon.

ANYWAY. That's my unsolicited Magik thoughts for the day. I am trying to keep my expectations low - I think it's very possible that Morph appearance is all we get - but I do think there's ways to get some really good Magik content in only a few minutes of screentime given what appears to be the theme of the next episode...

i really think i would have preferred it to end sooner, you know? one last og game season to finally progress our relationship with barbatos and give luke time to process the fact that simeon's human now, then wrap it all up with an actual *ending*. it was supposed to end a long time ago i think. it would have been sad, but not as sad as watching this degradation in quality and seeing solmare flanderise all their characters and get progressively money hungry.

idk its just. theyre in a hole and they seem to think that if they keep digging, one day they'll make it back to the surface. ill stay where i am on the outskirts of the fandom, im still attached to the characters but i dont know if ill bother with any new content. but to you and everyone who was still regularly playing and staying up to date with the new lessons i can imagine how much it would suck to have that suddenly come out of nowhere. they really should have given way more advance warnin, they really fucked everyone over. who knows! maybe ill get involved with the fandom again like i used to be. i still think it's important to keep the fandom alive, it's been so impactful to so many people. it's been so impactful to me -- i really had some of the best fandom experiences of my life here, and i know im not alone in that. im glad you're not leaving entirely, and the same goes to the other asks who said they're still gonna draw/write even with the game ending. if the fandom's managed to stay alive despite. (gestures vaguely at whatever happens at solmare hq) i don't think this has to be the end of it.

Anyway, I have to agree with you. I think it would have been much better story-wise if they did one or maybe two more seasons in OG to wrap everything up and then ended things.

Especially because all of the potential they set up with Nightbringer's first two seasons was completely squandered. They could have gone in a good and interesting direction after that, but they didn't for whatever reason.

I have no problem admitting that I'm not quite as heartbroken as I would have expected to be. I've seen a lot of stuff going down in this fandom, both good and bad. And for myself personally, it's mostly been good. I'm here because I have a Barbatos obsession and he was vastly neglected by the games from the very beginning lol.

I feel like I can expand on what we've been given in a way that will be FAR more satisfying to me personally than whatever new content they would be giving us anyway.

I write fic because I want to interact with this characters in a way that is specific to me, you know? I share it because sometimes other people like what I do as well.

I do think the fandom will stay alive for some time. My experience is that fandoms live on far after their source has ended. People also join fandoms after the source has ended. I don't know exactly what that's going to be like for OM, since I'm uncertain about the availability of the apps going forward. But I do think there will be people still engaging with the fandom for some time.
