— author's thoughts. i would say "i swear i'm very normal about arlecchino" but i feel as if we all know that is not true. anyways for those that care about the lore behind this series of fics, i perceive this as the "turning point" in arle & [name]'s relationship in which the latter begins to realize how serious being the knave's heir is. but rn they are delirious on pain meds and do not realize the fate that they have condemned themselves to. yeag

       Lightning struck their body at even the slightest of muscle twitches.

       The bruises on their skin hidden underneath gauze and bandages throbbed with agonizing heat, their insides twisted and churned as their body attempted to repair whatever manner of internal injuries that they had oh-so lovingly been gifted, and their mind begged for restful sleep.

       (No matter how tired they were, ever since they had awoken after being asleep for about a day, they had not been able to fall back asleep again... at least, not in a way that mattered. Their sleep was plagued by nightmares and worries that they could not shake, all concerning the very person who had put them in this condition in the first place. She hadn't come to see them yet. They were certain she would have, but she hadn't.

       Was father... upset? Did they upset her?)

       A soft sigh left their lips as they stared upwards at the ceiling from their bed—even the simple task turning over was nigh impossible, so they dared not attempt anything other than sleep. At least the admittedly rather laborious task of trying to fall asleep did not wrack their body with searing hurt.

       In their spar, Father was neither kind nor easy on them, and they had a sneaking suspicion that she was especially hard on them. Lyney was already standing again and on the move, meanwhile Lynette and Freminet ended up slipping by with relatively minimal injuries, but them? Bedridden, without the slightest hope of being able to stand in the coming hours... or even days, probably. Their legs pulsed at the thought alone.

       ...But they did take the brunt of Father's attacks, so they supposed that was their own fault.

       "I will not sit idly by and watch you bring unfathomable harm to my siblings."

       Standing immovably in front of Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet with their weapon pointedly raised at the very woman who raised them was certainly not how they had anticipated their day going. Nevertheless, they were in that exact situation, and backing down was the last thing on their mind. Lyney seemed to want to say something—to tell them, to warn them, not to be stupid, maybe.

       ...But really, Lyney knew better, and as much as he worried for his sibling's safety, he also knew extremely well how Father was and how they were.

       She would want to see their display of strength, no matter how miniscule in comparison to hers.

       And them—they would not dare let Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet face this alone, even if it meant risking their safety and wellbeing.

       (He also happened to know that his sibling could be a tad too eager to show Father the display of strength she desired, but that was just his own opinion, muddled by his biases and his own desire to protect and care for his siblings. He knew and recognized how his desires played tricks on him, but it did not make him any less bothered by what he liked to think of as his sibling's 'recklessness.')

       Arlecchino's stare threatened to pry apart their soul at its very seams, but they failed to waver. Instead, they firmly returned her stare, albeit with less intensity. Their grip on their weapon tightened.

       The Knave was going to absolutely destroy them, though hopefully not beyond repair.

       They knew that, and they were fine with that. It was an inevitable truth; so be it.

       In the defense of their siblings, they would be more than happy to shed blood—someone else's, or theirs.

       "...I hope you can forgive me, Father."

       In this case, theirs.

       Destroy them, she most certainly did. It wasn't an unexpected outcome. They knew better than to think that they could actually beat her; at least their showing of strength (combined with that of their siblings' and the Traveler's) was enough to compel her to give a kinder execution.

       'Execution.' Hm.

       Execution.

       The word bounced around in their mind for some time as they pondered.

       They weren't quite sure if they saw it that way or not—on one hand, the mind was killed and reborn, but on the other, the body remained alive and unharmed.

       What kind of execution could be so... gentle? So forgiving? None that they had ever heard of. No executions were so tender and compassionate as to preserve the gift of life.

       ...Perhaps that was simply a different kind of execution than what they were used to.

       As their mind wandered, they absentmindedly mused about what their freed siblings were doing.

       'Filliol and Nanteuil... where are you two now?'

       Were they enjoying the sun?

       Hopefully.

       The soft click of a door opening and closing caught their attention, and for a moment they felt extreme relief—finally, someone had come to administer their pain medications... the ache sinking into their bones was about to finish what Arlecchino had begun at this point—but the click of heels that followed made their chest tighten nervously.

       They turned their head slightly to the side. At their bedside stood none other than the Knave herself, an unreadable expression crossing her face when she saw the state they were in.

       Speak of the devil and she shall appear.

       "Father..."

       "My child."

       Arlecchino was quick to drag the stool at the foot of their bed to the side and sit.

       "Father, I—"

       They tried to sit up, grimacing through the pain that clawed across the entirety of their body as they did. The Fourth did not allow them to get far, however, and placed a firm hand on their chest. They had no choice but to settle back down, as the strength she was exerting against them was far too great for them to combat.

       "Do not get up. You will only hurt yourself—"

       "Father—"

       "—And spare yourself the chore of speaking."

       Their mouth closed without another word. All they could do was stare up at her, eyes wide and bewildered and perfectly displaying all the questions they wished to ask (and a bit glazed over due to the combined factors of their exhaustion and the strength of the medication they had been on), though one in particular stood out the most:

       'Why are you here?'

       Maybe the Knave could read their mind.

       (She had no such ability. To know her children and what they were thinking was simply part of her responsibility as Father.)

       "My child," she mused again, this time not in greeting, though she did not continue. Perhaps she was looking for the words. Her fingers gingerly brushed the hair from their face, briefly brushing over the scratch across their forehead.

       Ah.

       One among the many wounds she bestowed upon them a day prior. One of the most mild of her gifts, actually.

       It wasn't regret that washed upon her upon realizing the severity of their wounds in particular—no, they made the choice to join the fight knowing well that she would not be gentle on them or their siblings, and she would argue that regret was a useless emotion only capable of holding one back. What's done was done. It was as simple as that. Regret, much like sorrow, does naught but hold a person back.

       ...Yet, she still felt something, though she struggled identifying what it was.

       Maybe...

       Maybe, now that the Fourth had seen them and the extent of the wounds she delivered, she felt that she had neglected her obligation as Father to visit their bedside in the midst of their healing.

       "I'm sorry."

       Their voice cut through her thoughts. Though they tried their very best to mask it, it wavered almost imperceptibly, the tremble only audible to trained ears—ears like hers. The Fourth Harbinger was not known for being obtruse. She noticed, and they could tell. Nothing ever slipped by her.

       "And what is it that you are apologizing for, exactly?"

       "I... I don't know. I just feel like you're disappointed in me somehow, and I don't know how else to remedy it at the moment."

       'At the moment,' she assumed, meant their current bedridden state.

       "I know not what has given you such an impression. I am not disappointed."

       "...You're not?"

       "Certainly not. If you are referring to your interception of our spar," she began, "defending your family is the most kingly action you could have taken in that moment. In fact, I expected no less of you."

       "I'm not kingly," they replied, offering a weak chuckle as they continued: "At least, I don't feel kingly right now..."

       "Then how is it that you feel?"

       "Pathetic, maybe." They turned their head fully to the side so that they were able to meet her gaze. "I know I can't and probably will never be able to triumph over you in a spar, but—"

       "Perish the thought," Arlecchino dismissed. "Immediately."

       "Huh?"

       Her eyes bore into theirs. This time, much unlike the time they stared at her in battle, they did not feel fear or nervous anticipation of what was to come.

       "You did not win the war," she affirmed, "but I would certainly say you won the battle."

       She leaned closer. With one hand, she brushed the framing hair that normally fell over her cheeks to the side.

       There, a long cut was scabbed over with dry crimson, and suddenly, their heart leapt—whether it was from an odd pride in having been able to actually hit her, or shame and embarrassment that they actually caused harm to Father of all people, they did not know.

       The Knave allowed her hair to fall back into place.

       "Though the odds were stacked against you and yours, you ultimately managed to wound me. This was something that not even your siblings managed to achieve."

       "I could argue that it's only because there were so many of us."

       "Perhaps, but it was still you who caused this wound. I lost track of you for only a moment and you took the opportunity. Progress does not happen overnight, child, and your strength is still growing. One day, you will be the king of this house. You will deliver these kinds of wounds to others, as I have delivered to you." Her gaze shifted to their bedside table. "...That is, if you so desire that life."

       The bottled flame swirled and flared in the vial under her gaze, as if it sought to melt through the glass and lunge, consuming everything in its wake and leaving nothing but ash behind.

       Ah. Right.

       They had almost forgotten that she had also allocated the resources needed to complete her 'execution' to them.

       Silence, heavy with the weight of implication, endured for what seemed to be an eternity.

       Then, they broke it:

       "I do not wish to leave the house."

       Arlecchino would have been perfectly content with letting them free—with snipping away at the webs they were so deeply entangled in, letting the flames cleanse the darkness from their veins, and thereby permitting them to step into the sun.

       And yet... that was not what they wanted.

       Perhaps it was a blend of bewilderment, pride, and annoyance that stirred in her chest.

       What a foolish child they were, refusing freedom when it was so readily within their grasp. They had earned it, and yet they chose to reject it? How foolish, indeed.

       The Fourth's eyes narrowed thoughtfully as she gazed down at them.

       "Hm. Is that so?"

       "Yes."

       ...But that foolish child was hers—her child and her successor. Hers, and hers for a reason, for better or worse.

       If all of the Knaves who came before Peruere were not stubborn, then there would be no Knave to begin with. It was, therefore, only right that her heir be as much of a stubborn fool as she.

       Her eyes seemed to soften, if only by a miniscule amount. Arlecchino placed a warm hand over their own, resting idly across their torso, and they hummed, daring to shift and intertwine her fingers with theirs.

       Brief tender moments, always flickering like a dying flame, were rare in the House of the Hearth, especially when permitted or even initiated by Father.

       Thus, they had no problem taking advantage of the situation that they were in, eyes fluttering shut as her warmth oozed into their hand and slowly crawled up their arm. It would soon consume their entire being, but rather than being scorched by it, they were certain that they would be lulled to sleep by it.

       "So be it, then," she murmured, thumb absentmindedly running across their knuckle. "You are a fool."

       A smile. The first that Arlecchino had seen from them in days, in fact, and it seemed to soothe something within her. "I know."

       "Do not disappoint me."

       Her tone cut as sharply as a knife, but they did not appear to mind a single bit; all they could do was smile at her.

       Even when she was threatening them, all they could do was smile.

       "I won't."

-Yoichi takes a lot of responsibility when it comes to you. He does more than he needs to, but it doesn't bother him at all

-your parents sometimes joke about him being almost motherly towards you. And actually, that's true

-even though you're only two years younger, Yoichi tends to treat you as if you were a lot younger. He's very stuck in his position as a big brother, especially since he's alone at home with you so much. To him, as soon as he gets home from school, making sure you're okay is his main responsibility

-you do a lot of things together, like sharing your chores and sitting at the dining table to do your homework. Being in each other's company makes the absence of your parents more bearable

-talking with Yoichi is a lot of fun! He talks a lot about soccer and you talk a lot about what you're into. But sometimes you talk so much, you forget the time and suddenly you hear your parents being back home, which means it's already late at night

Shouei Barou

-as soon as it's only you and him in the house, he goes full parent mode

-don't worry about your chores, Shouei will do them. That's actually because he thinks you don't clean well enough, but he makes you believe he doesn't want you to do extra work after an exhausting day in school

-sometimes you have to remind him he's your brother and not your parent. As soon as you get into trouble with something, he starts holding speeches about why what you did was wrong. One time he even tried to ground you, but him even attempting that made you laugh so hard he couldn't be serious about it anymore either

-you think you're too old for it, but Shouei insists on tucking you into bed every night. He wants to make sure you get into bed at a decent time to get enough sleep

I'm writing an AU rn and like

So Wriothesley woke up in hospital after (correctly) killing his foster parents and Arlecchino is just There. So Wrio doesn't know who tf she is but he's a lil broody and very "yes I deserve prison, yes I'm 13 what about it"

Arlecchino meanwhile has only just taken over the House of the Hearth and killed her own abuser so they're kinda vibing in a dysfunctional way. She really wanted to kill all the child traffickers in Fontaine but she couldn't find them yet (she's only just come back from Fatui stuffs and since she's only just taken over the HoH she doesn't have an information network to rely on).

HOWEVER by killing his foster parents (who were part of the same trafficking ring) Wriothesley unintentionally picked a thread that Arlecchino can now follow go deal with all the shitty nobles in Fontaine and save a bunch of children. She's pretty much come to see Wriothesley to tell him this and legit thank him because she genuinely really cares about the children of Fontaine and this all Sucks.

So now Wriothesley is still going to prison but Arlecchino has her eye on him. She basically sees him as her first 'child' even though he doesn't know her as 'Father' like the rest of the kids do.

(which: in this AU the reason Arlecchino was there to save Lynette was because she uncovered the nobleman involved through the info chain Wriothesley set off so there's layers here).

Wriothesley is in prison and Arlecchino sends him fun little letters (and he replies (honestly feel bad for the poor Fatuus who was stuck in Meropide as their go-between)). Importantly she never sends him anything more than morale boosts - no bribing the guards for special treatment, no rigged pankration fights, no extra credit coupons. Arlecchino loves all her children but Tough Love is as important as any other form.

So Wrio had a ten year prison sentence and everything pretty much goes as canon: he learns to thrive, garners everyone's respect and, eventually, takes control of Meropide by duelling the administrator on the day he should have been released. Arlecchino's getting all these updates and she's so so pleased at how well he's doing. He's given the 'duke' title and she's ready to give him all the desdert, he's a great son and he deserves a treat.

But there is a whole layer to this that, though Wrio & Arlecchino have been in communication for a decade, he's never learned that she's Fatui and, when he eventually does learn, he doesn't confer those two identities. Same with Arlecchino - where Lyney, Lynette and Freminet are Fatui agents, Wrio is her First child and he's disconnected from that. That's why Lyney is her heir - Wrio's almost like a pet project she took on outside of her Fatui responsibilities.

Obviously it's then funny when Lyney & co clash against Wriothesley because like. They've never met but Arlecchino definitely considers them all part of the same family. Lyney has too much of a big brother complex to have to deal with his 'Father' introducing a much bigger big brother into the fold who has also managed to do like,, everything.

Like poor Lyney cos Wrio literally went to prison at 13 and still became the third most politically powerful and richest person in Fontaine before he was 25. Forget Forbes Under Thirty, Lyney has to contend with whatever this shit is without developing issues

(Lyney is actually very cool and better suited to all the Fatui stuffs but you know. He's gotta compare himself).

So anyway the concept of the AU (Arlecchino Adoption AU???) mostly centers on all the letters Arlecchino & Wriothesley sent to each other, and then navigating the dynamic later on when the Fatui are crawling all over Fontaine and The Prophecy. Bonus points for Neuvillette's most trusted Wriothesley having this weird Arlecchino connection, and if he can be convinced to side with her, Wriothesley could fuck up all of Fontaine by having Meropide go on strike and halting all of construction. So messy.

Everyone gets to bribe Wriothesley with tea to be on their side but in reality Wriothesley is on his own side (Arlecchino's like: yes this is how to raise an independent child, Lyney: he literally shot me and convinced me he would murder my family, Arlecchino: yeah they really don't make em like they used to huh).

Also all of the letters with Arlecchino were 100% like,,, philosophical debates and historical discussion from whatever prison book Wrio just read. No parental guidance here. He met this woman once, she is not his dad - she's his pen pal. Arlecchino finds labels unimportant in this instance.

I'll yap abt Paranormal Order X PJSK (more specifically WxS) and what element I would give to each one of them!!! ★ミ

Translation: I'm seeing people say that they are agents who fight against the paranormal so like- they are in Paranormal Order? They'll fight against blood zombies and such?

When I drew Rui with affinity to Death, I was thinking of "What if PJSK character where in paranormal order?"

I REALLY want to think more this au and maybe even write SMTH too, but I'm not that huge of a fan of Paranormal Order, my brother is almost constantly telling me to finish watching Desconjuração and Calamidade, anyways, with that I don't know a ton ABT the universe like other fans do so, I might say SMTH wrong, I did go to the wiki to clear some of my doubts, but even so, I want you to understand that I know almost anything lololol

Now, without further ado, what element of the paranormal would each member of Wondershow have affinity with!!??

I discussed this with my brother once or twice, although I still have my doubts.

I know that the elements aren't really choosed depending on personality, you just feel the elements calling you to take their hand, so, I tried to think as the entity's!!! How? Idk. I would love to see a CHAOS NENE, (a chaos WxS troupe actually-) but I think knowledge suits her more. She's very reasonable most of the time. She still is anxious, but man, she does take so many good actions when needed. The one I can think right away was when she decided to bring Rui to Kaito in "It's on Wonderhalloween". She also wants to learn more and more to become a diva right? And she has a lot of knowledge and ABT videogames I suposse. I do she her as someone who wants to know more to surpass her weaknesses. And idk- maybe knowledge would call for her.

Death, the element of time, spirals and repetition. Rui wants to experience every millisecond with his friends, and he's the one who seems most afraid of WXS disbandment (not saying that the others are okay with that, Nene says that they will stick together no matter what, emu, yk emu, our happy ending yk- and Tsukasa cherish and appreciates his troupe sm, he also wants to realise his dream alongside them), anyways, but Rui. AAA Rui... He doesn't think about that 24/7, but that "If we disband" seems to torment him imo.

For me, the thing he values the most, It's the time he spends with people and doing things he loves. Maybe that's not what death wants, because it wants you to be absorbed by the spirals. But meh, I like Death Rui.

Now then, he would definitely be a specialist. MAYBE an occultist because... Sorcerer Rui

One of the very few things that kept me engaged with the 5 episodes of house of Dragon I did watch (the combination of Cole being like THAT and the very sudden time skip threw me off so badly I stopped watching during ep 6 (but my mom still gave me all the plot updates).

Anyway, I love this au! I love when people really dig into the worldbuilding and figure out what would be affected by the changes. Having no Targaryens means Otto can’t work his way up to the right hand of the king as easily (or does not deem it worth the effort since it’s way smaller a country). But he still tries to get his daughter married to a royal anyway. (And it’s really fucked up that he tells her this her entire live, like she’s not even officially engaged, there’s no signed contract, he’s just that confident in his own ability to marry off his daughter.)

But it makes sense that Alicent is so brainwashed that it’s not only normal to her, she’s comforted by it. As long as she knows she’ll marry someone her own age, she’s fine with being married off. The prospects are good after all. And she feels no attraction to either of them, so she does not care which son it ends up being.

The thing that throws her off, isn’t having to marry, it’s the combination of her secure future being changed so easily without her having any control over it as well as the fact that this king is very old (which poor canon Alicent btw). Tbf, I think the age throws her more since she can kinda see the logic of why he is the ‘best’ option (essentially, her father could get his blood on the throne a generation earlier, provided that both other sons die before being crowned). It gives her immediate sway over the crown.

But while bearing the children of the younger man didn’t bother her, she knows bearing the king’s children would be an actively unpleasant experience. Thus she is incredibly stressed about the very idea of it (mainly because she knows her father is considering it, and while he has yet to confirm or arrange anything, she has clearly already figured out the advantages on her own and knows it to be something her father would take).

And yet, when Rhaynyra points out that she could refuse, Alicent insists that she is bound by duty (and the sexism). Again, my girl is brainwashed. She has to do this, no matter how unenjoyable it would be, for her family, to protect her family, to empower her family because her father said so who said that? Not me.

honestly a big reason why I wanted to write this was because of all the changes to the world I'd get dig into if the targaryens never went on their conquest. Otto is in a very different position in this world since he's not the Hand of the King, and instead just kind of helps his brother run things in Oldtown. but also because the Reach is a much smaller kingdom and the Hightowers have such a close relationship with the Gardeners, as a family they have a higher standing. that's why Otto already knows he'll be able to arrange a marriage for Alicent from the day she's born. the Hightowers themselves are practically Reach royalty in this world. not to mention, the Hightowers are the lords of Oldtown, which in the canon asoiaf universe is the largest and richest city in all the Seven Kingdoms. so in this au where the Reach is it's own kingdom, Oldtown is a huge center of power and influence.

the thing about Alicent is that although she is much more okay with the idea of marrying someone her own age, I think if she ever had actually gotten to her wedding day with one of the princes then she would've started feeling similar anxiety and dread. not as much as she's feeling over the idea of marrying the King, but she wouldn't be as calm having to actually confront the idea of having a husband and all the duties that come with that (I am a lesbian Alicent truther I will die on that hill). however, this fear was greatly sped up and multiplied with the knowledge that instead of marrying a handsome boy her own age who she would at least have some things in common with, instead she is going to marry a man more than twice her age. and like you pointed out, there's also the aspect that her future has changed so suddenly without her having even the slightest bit of agency over it. she's always known she doesn't have any control of her own life, but this is a really stark reminder of that fact.

and Alicent is smart. she's Otto Hightower's daughter for a reason. she can immediately see and understand the political implications and what her father's strategy is. there is no reason for her father not to make the switch and marry Alicent to the king, except if he were to consider Alicent's feelings on the matter. which Alicent already knows he will never do. and Alicent has been raised to believe this is normal. this is how the world should work. this is what her duty is as a daughter. poor girl :(

We got Echo back! (No Rex though ☹️). But also Crosshair, and the Batch AND HOWZER AND GREGOR!!! 🥰 Was hoping we would see Wolffe at some point but he could still turn up in the finale. 🤔

Jennifer wasn't kidding about this being a rollercoaster of emotions. I was just swinging back and forth between happiness and pure stress.

And Crosshair was trying to help his brothers. 😭 He still cares about them and now they want to get him back but they don't know if they can trust him and it's all too many feelings my heart can't take it-

I loved this episode. I think Eps 3, 8 and 12 still top it for me, but I was freaking out a lot. I hope Echo continues to have a significant part in the final 2 episodes and I hope that we see Rex again. Also, where's Cody at rn?

Anyway, I hope we get a Batch reunion next week!!!

What are your views on Catholics or very traditional Catholics? I’ve spoken with one guy who was and he believed that even women shouldn’t work and called it unbiblical. I mentioned the various women in the Bible that had businesses and worked but he didn’t really get it. I don’t get their animosity towards jobs too.

Because I’m poor and I’ve always had to work and women in my family never had money, we always had to work. Eventually I got him to admit that poor women should work (for no pay too) for rich women who should stay home and make babies. He lived a very sheltered life I learned. He didn’t even understand how taxes worked or how much things cost because he was still being taken care of by his very wealthy parents. Both of his parents were doctors too 🙄 he never needed a job or to go to school but only went to party. I think honestly he isn’t really Christian, he just feels so insecure and inadequate next to women who are business owners and educated so he’s Catholic to feel important. Because his world views and how he feels the world be is so ignorant

But I don’t pity him at all because he let it slip out that women with no family or friends to care for them should be prostitutes for men because prostitutes existed in Jesus time. And he still had the audacity to ask me why he was still single. It’s bad when you learn that even those hardcore traditional pick me catholic girls don’t want you 🫥

I don't think being "very traditional" is remotely relevant to your relationship with God, so "very religious catholic/Christian" doesn't mean anything imo. Jesus broke several times "traditions" and negatively caught the attention of pharisees so I think this whold "traditionalist Christianity " that's quite en vogue rn is one huge misinterpretation of what Christianity really is.

And you're right, the Bible never portrayed women working negatively so male traditionalists beefing against women in the workforce shows that their grievance has more to do with their incelness and drive to control women, than a genuine will to follow the Bible.

okay and last but not least, my beloved yamada hizashi. another canon trans man, another case of whatever pronoun is funniest for the bit but maybe not she/her thanks. as mentioned in emi's little paragraph, he was adopted by the fukudoka family when he was 13, but before that he had been in foster care since birth tbh. half-american, half-japanese; his father was a pro-hero from america who left his mom and the entire country of japan when she found out she was pregnant and then when he was born, his qirk activated and he deafened both his birth mother and all the medical staff in the room. had a pretty rough time of it tbh, was muffled/put on quirk suppressants a lot to keep from accidently deafening anyone else and so didn't speak for very long periods of his early life. learned jsl as achild to be able to communicate at all. started transitioning after getting adopted at 13, changed his name to hizashi from his deadname, and just kinda existed tbh. we know all the canon things that happen to him as a teenager. my base canon for him is that he's married to aizawa, but that doesn't have to be the case for plotting and stuff. just know that's the default.

UMMM WELL- I'll put my thoughts on Romance Doll under a break at the end because the movie is pretty nsfw and weird and yeah...

Quartet is on my list! I'm definitely going to watch it at some point, but I also really wanna watch Miracles! Honestly that one has been the most interesting to me from the beginning but my adhd is just causing me to watch whatever's convenient first, not the ONE IVE REALLY WANTED TO WATCH THIS WHOLE TIME. I still have to finish Koisenu Futari too... I stopped that one cuz I was watching it with someone and we had a long period of time where we couldn't watch it. And then also it's just VERY HEAVY as a person who happens to be demi who has gone through periods of feeling like I could be aroace in the past. It's so realistic and deals with the painful things as well as the funny things and I am scared to finish it bc I KNOW THERES MORE HEAVY SHIT TO COME but it's an amazing show AND I DO WANT TO FINISH THAT ONE TOO.

Ok so, this movie is very much one of those WEIRDLY REALISTIC stories where all the characters are so real and flawed and HUGE MISTAKES ARE MADE by characters and it's just such a wild ride. You probably haven't heard about it because its FUCKING WACK.

Without giving too much away in case you wanna watch it (netflix dropped it last monday, which is actually why I ended up watching it over the weekend at all, but it's still available to rent on amazon 🙄) Issey plays Tetsuo, an unemployed art college grad who is desperate for a job. His friend gave him a tip about this sketchy job opening but told him literally nothing else about it. He shows up and this old woman greets him and shows him around and he's a bit shocked to find out it's a shop that makes SILICONE SEX DOLLS. The woman is like "your friend didn't tell you that???" And Tetsuo was like "he literally just said there was a job here-" and she laughs and says "Some friend he is then!" Honestly I loved the old lady she's great, I wish I could remember her name I'm too lazy to go look it up rn.

Anyway so yeah, he takes the job even though the interview was super awkward and there's this gross pervy old guy who works there and he doesn't really care about the subject matter he just needs money (mood)

One thing and another happens (and a lot of me wanting to slap the old man into next tuesday, seriously he's the worst) and a little bit later Tetsuo meets the love of his life through some bullshit connection to his job, and they end up getting married some time after, but she doesn't know what he does for a living and ITS ALL VERY HARD TO EXPLAIN WHY HE KEEPS THAT FROM HER without spoiling things but just- the movie is wack, I really didn't like it in the beginning but it pulls a complete 180 and ends up being this weirdly emotional and AT TIMES, a holesome wholesome slice of life movie??

Don't get me wrong it doesn't sugarcoat things like objectification of women and there's some degree of realistic portrayal of that bc of the whole Tetsuo working at a sex doll shop thing, it is very true to life- how men can be gross even if they aren't going so far as assaulting anyone. It doesn't excuse it either it just presents it as it is, which is good I think. But then there are OTHER moments where the movie is very sex positive- so its a wild fucking trip tbh. Definitely don't watch it if you have sensitivities to the things I mentioned above bc bro omg the first half almost had me like "yeah I can't watch this" a couple times jfc.

BASICALLY by the end of the movie the message is that communication and being open with people you love (and not getting bogged down with anxiety and guilt) is important, because on top of not being fair to the people who are important to you, hiding things from them can eat you up inside and make you act irrationally and hurt them even more whether you realize it or not. And also, you never know how someone will feel about the things you don't want to tell them. Something that could be huge to you could be no big deal to another.

Its just a very interesting movie. I don't know if I'd recommend it, theres some NUCLEAR SECOND HAND EMBARRASSMENT CRINGE MOMENTS like oh my god i wanted to die- and like I said above, there's lots of intense subject matter and some not so pretty moments that a lot of people may want to avoid. Id for sure check one of those sites that gives content warnings before watching bc hoo boy...

But all that aside, once again Issey is an incredible actor and his range is apparent in this movie. I saw some like- borderline SLAPSTICK physical comedy moments that had me so surprised bc he did them so well but its so new and different from anything else ive watched him star in. Dude is just unstoppable tbh. He HAS 👏 THE 👏 RANGE!! 👏

Also you get to see him naked a lot. So there's that!

head above water for SURE. just kind of a weirdly lonely writing experience and i had some stuff going on that made it tough to believe in my own writing abilities sometimes! but i got through it 🫶

m. What’s the weirdest AU scenario you’ve ever come up with?  Did it turn into a story?

the two that come to mind are both apocalypse-y aus, neither of which i have turned into fic — firstly this climate apocalypse au, which i still think would be wildly fun from a worldbuilding perspective, and also the ai apocalypse au based on that weird little video the canucks posted at the beginning of the season. i don't feel like finding it rn but if you know you know. mostly it would be about quinn hughes leading his little band of survivors across the desolate and dangerous canadian prairies, trying to get back to michigan in hopes that his brothers would be there, and also pining deeply for brady the whole time.

n. Any fic ideas brewing that you’d care to share?

since grad school is eating all of my time and i haven't finished writing anything substantial in ages, i unfortunately have the same answer for this as the last time i talked about wips 🥴 which is: the brady/quinn haw sequel, the girl!quinn cisswap fic, and the matthew/leon edge-of-retirement futurefic. those are still my main guys!! hopefully one day i will finish all of them so i can get some new ideas to talk about, haha.

i definitely go through phases where i read a lot of fic and phases where i hardly read any fic and am reading tons of published books instead. i do a LOT of fic reading off of recs from pals and rec blogs/lists because i'm lazy about going through the tags 😂😭 and i would say that i'm a little picky but open to a lot of things! pickier about long fic because it's more of a time investment, but i will forgive writing mistakes, etc, for a fun and interesting fic premise.

honestly i don't think i can complain on any level about the amount of love my fics have gotten! people have been been very kind and generous across the board! my older fic obviously gets less attention but i am exremely fine with that because it a) is not as good as the newer stuff and b) i wrote a lot of it while deeply depressed and don't remember it well anyway LOL. so that's fine! i think maybe my most recent matthew/leon fic got a little less attention, but it's such a bite-sized little character study pwp that i really didn't expect a ton of attention, so that's also fine!

i'm loving everyone coming out of the woodwork to get their negative ron@ nce confessions off their chest, so i hope you don't mind mine as well: i think removing steve entirely from both of their perspective's is half the point of the ship, because as much as nancy has desperately needed a friend for years, this is one that wound up being much less about her and much more about her love life

robin and nancy's friction in the library was both because robin is socially awkward and nancy has a short fuse, and also because i think nancy was jealous of robin. they get along better once robin has proved her use to nancy, but also after robin made very clear that she and steve aren't dating. once they got closer, they have smaller background moments that show a more comfortable friendship, but all of their actual conversations are about the case or steve. i DO like stancy, and even i found it out of place and wished their friendship could be more about them (honestly i think stancy would be getting so much less hate rn if the duffers weren't such big fans of the matchmaker trope, but they're freaking obsessed with it)

fandom is always gonna ship two hot people together, especially if there's a tangible but nonthreatening amount of tension to their dynamic, but i think when 90% of their dynamic is about SOMEONE ELSE people start spite shipping, to purposefully re-imagine them when the third character is completely irrelevant

because yeah, the ship really does only work if you completely remove steve's personality and relationship with both robin and nancy. "wlw relationships shouldn't be about men" is true, and i agree with it, and that's how i know ron@ nce is never gonna happen unless it's platonic soulmates steve and robin sharing a girlfriend

i do think it sucked that robin and nancy’s friendship became solely about stancy (and i hate the matchmaking trope so much, and it is used continuously throughout st). although, i will say that i think outside of their connections to steve and the upside down, they really don’t have much in common. maybe the duffers realised that, and figured the best way to make them friends is to just make every scene about steve lol

nancy does desperately need a friend, which is why i wish this season had focused more on platonic stancy then romantic. honestly, i don’t have anything against stancy, and if it was written well, i wouldn’t mind it being endgame (though to be fair, i never really care about endgame ships, i can just read fanfic, you know?) i just don’t love that we’re seeing these romantic scenes while jonathan and nancy are still together. but anyway, nancy’s arc hinges on the fact that she needs a platonic relationship, and so does steve’s! both nancy and steve will go through development when they learn they don’t need romantic relationships to be happy.

sorry got off track there, but yeah, i just can’t really buy into r//nance, romantic or otherwise because so much of it is about steve.

don’t get me wrong, i understand why people ship nancy and robin, but to me it just feels more like a crack ship, then a real one. and i love a good ship that has no basis in canon, but when people try and argue that this ship is the only one that makes sense, is when i start not liking it.

and, yeah, exactly like you said, there is no real way to separate r//nance from steve, a lot of characterisation has to be ignored in order for the ship to work. and while wlw ships shouldn’t be about men, i think to try and use that to describe r//nance is nonsensical, and feels like a point they’re making just to make r//nance seem progressive, and anyone that’s against it a horrible person.

sumeru (sans scaramouche): collei, cyno, tighnari, faruzan, layla, nilou

i think collei has an actual canon age right? unless I'm tripping and fanon has solidified so much in everyone's minds. I still haven't read the manhua <3 but iirc people think she's 12-13 there right. maybe she's like 17 rn, i can see anywhere from 14-16 though. idk anything abt her timeline so these are quite literally guesstimates from vibes and they're likely to be wrong. Layla is such a college girlie, she's like 19-20 and sleep deprived (same fr); begging for her to catch a break on behalf of uni students everywhere. I don't have a set age for Faruzan, I can see her anywhere from 30-40, 26 years old minimum (the redesigns people give her where she looks visibly older are so cool <3). Given she was a pretty well known researcher back in her day and since academia is a long and arduous career choice, I think it makes sense; also if she's like way older than Kaveh appearance wise (≥ 10 years) , even if she hadn't gotten trapped for a century, that would be sick af (their dynamic is impeccable and I think a larger age difference makes it better, sweeter, and funnier). Nilou also feels 19-20 years old to me; no real explanation, she just has a young adult vibe, like someone just out of her teenage years but quite capable at managing her life, although still testing out responsibility for major decisions and stuff like that (age solidarity w yun jin)

iirc cyno was already mahamatra or something WHILE tighnari was still in school; thus this makes cynonari EXTREMELY funny if you're a moral purist who ships it and thinks they fell in love in their akademiya days LOL. jkjk it's also a reasonable interpretation that Cyno became mahamatra at an insanely young age, since uhhh fucked up temple of silence background smth smth and honestly it feels in character for him to go buck wild at a young age like that (person most suited for young collei fr). HOWEVER. personally I think being mahamatra at like 19 is insane—thus I think tighnari's probably 23, cyno might be 27? Freminet I'd say is around 16; 14 minimum. No thoughts for this just vibes. mmmmm idk when he was adopted into the house, if he's around 4-5 years younger than L+L, and let's say they entered the House when they were maybe 6-9 (my headcanons, is it now possible to piece together an accurate timeline of this from in-game lore??), and that was maybe 3-4 years after freminet entered, he probably was like 5-7 when he entered... wah frem............. poor child I'm giving him a hug (knowing that he's also a killing machine)

Having troubles sleeping rn so I guess I'm gonna ramble more about my oc x canon shenanigans that will not Stop. This time mostly focusing on Erin's perception of Anya and how her feelings for her end up developing. This is a very long post I have many thoughts

Their first proper meeting in Darchlight caves was honestly a good impression on Erin. She was very quiet, not really saying more then necessary, and this girl also evidently new Aelita too. Erin didn't sense any hostility from her or anything, and in fact, when Anya seemingly got enough confidence to actually speak to her some point before the Bladestar grunts started actually flooding in, she was actually very nice to her.

Basically her first impression of Anya is, she's smarter then she looks, is very encouraging (she was giving compliments to Erin's battling as they pushed through the grunts), and was very strong. Although very quiet and shy, and she noticed she didn't seem to be giving herself much credit.

Now in game the early GDC arc really kinda moves really really quickly compared to early portions of the game, but since there's not a solid track on what month it is or exact dates until Chapter 15 starting out with November, I'm gonna say this early GDC arc up to Venam's unfortunate rock related incident is about a week or two in this version of events.

And well, since Erin kinda is locked out of the Theater until Aelita comes back after said mineral related incident, she frustratingly to herself has to stay at the apartment everyone was staying in for that period of time. During this in between her attempts to find Aelita, she actually had some opportunities to hang out with Anya as she was kinda doing her own thing in between stuff like the two's meeting with Cassandra and other things like that.

Basically throughout this time she kinda learns more about Anya in general. Kinda realizing she's selectively mute (noticing she's fairly talkative with the gang, even of she's still one of the more reserved of the group, primarily), noticing she seemed to like reading as well and seems to have taken an interest in drawing. Stuff like that. She ends up spending time around Anya simply because she was the quietest of the bunch and Erin didn't really mind her company surprising to herself. Anya herself getting comfortable with Erin too, and being rather friendly.

Of course though, Erin gets frustrated with her inability to find Aelita and decides to just storm back to the theater coincidentally after Anya had reunited with Aelita in the nightmare city and had gotten to the Theater themselves. Basically everything past this point is relatively the same as canon for a while, as everyone's focus shifts to Aelita's whole deal. The most notable thing is this around this point is the first time Erin learns Anya has nightmares (I think I'd place this during that night in past Sheridan, after that meeting they had with Cella. I'd say it'd fit better post alternate timeline arc, but I actually don't remember if the group leaves immediately after Vivian's deal or if they stay one more night after that). But anyways, Erin hadn't gotten to sleep yet but the other two had, and Anya getting woken up by her nightmare wasn't startling enough to wake anyone up. Erin checks on her, unintentionally startling Anya more, but after a very hushed whispers confirming Anya had a nightmare, actually offers that the two take a short walk outside to clear her head. Erin, frankly, isn't sure why she felt the need to take the time to comfort Anya, but she rolls with it. The conversation is frankly nothing special, just the two talking back and forth about random subjects until Anya feels calm enough to go back to sleep. This is the point though, where Erin starts to solidify that she cares about Anya though.

The rest of the story plays out as normal, only that Erin is slightly less abrasive/sassy to Anya (I do mean only slightly here, I mean Anya does manage to get kicked out of the library like mere minutes of being there even if she didn't do anything). But when Anya and Erin see each other again at the tournament hall, just before she's about to leave to go to the party with Melia, Anya gives her a brief hug and a cheerful "I'll see ya later!" Before she does and, even if for a moment Erin feels a slight warmth in her face. She gets distracted immediately though, and doesn't think too hard on it.

Of course, fireworks happen and Anya is in a state for sure, she's extremely worried about Erin especially hearing that she's completely unaccounted for from the explosion. I mentioned this before in a previous post, but when Anya sees Erin at the end of Chapter 14 she basically tackles Erin because she's just so relieved to see her alive, and Erin is immediately caught off guard by the incredibly sincere worry and joy Anya exuded from seeing her again. Again, she gets distracted by the plot and doesn't think too heavily on this. Only thing of note for the remainder of chapter 14 is Erin subconsciously puts herself between Anya and Dr. Isha when she notices how visibly uncomfortable Anya is on what that guy was saying about her.

Chapter 15 is when she suddenly has a lot more time to think on her feelings on Anya. The training is as normal as canon is. Although, thanks to Melia's comments on trusting Anya, and Erin's own developing feelings, she feels inclined go trust Anya very fast when more about her nature as the Interceptor is revealed during that month. This period also happens to be when Anya is getting her more frequent nightmares and again as mentioned in a previous post, is when Erin takes more time actually comfort her from these. By the end of the training month Erin has fully realized "oh shit" that she has full blown romantic feelings for this girl.

As Anya and Aelita are the first to leave for their mission, Anya very much makes sure to give Erin a hug before leaving which really does not help Erin's emotions here. Of course by this point everything that happens during this chapter happens as normal. Again though, when everyone is brought together again at the end, Anya again seems to be very joyful at seeing her Specifically, which yet again makes Erin feel Things. Again plot happens, can't really think on it much. Anya somehow managed to feel both relieved and more burdened then ever at the same time with everything she learned about herself during that chapter, and as of right now that's where it gets left off.

I do think they'd end up together probably not long after this, as Anya reciprocates Erin's feelings, even if Anya doesn't really have the experience to label those feelings she has. Basically everything is messy, neither of the two know if the both of them are going to see the end of this journey together, but by Arcues do they have each other.

okay HELLO! fantasy stoncy my beloveds yes yes YES! if u don't mind i think i might use this ask as an opportunity to think/talk ab stoncy specifically in my fantasy au only bc i have been attempting to write a stoncy tie-in to that universe for stoncy week for like. the past week and it is Not working in my brain. but honestly there r SO many ways their dynamic fits into all kinds of fantasy aus so. i have many thoughts.

ok!! so. in my fantasy au stoncy starts off first with jancy. while the wheelers are in lenora, nancy doesn't really clock that jonathan exists. jonathan knows who she is--her brother is over at his house constantly, ofc, and he'll see her around in town. he thinks she's pretty, but doesn't want to cross the boundaries of class and really just admires her from afar. (AND NOW I'M THINKING AB JANCY AS WILL TURNER AND ELIZABETH SWANN ADGFDFJYKL MY HEART) anyways. perhaps they have one or two brief interactions, but never anything prolonged. jonathan isn't nearly as broken up about it when the wheelers move back to the capital, and he's got more important things to worry about like taking care of his family than some girl he never even talked to.

on the other side, nancy enters society in the capital at age 18, a year after the move, and a match is quickly set up between her and Steven Harrington, who is not a knight but whose father is an advisor to the king, and is part of a high-ranked noble family. Steve is immediately struck by her sharp wit and ambition, and Nancy feels affection for him as well. they are married when she is 19. (i am still trying to figure out how to fit barb in here, but at some point her death by demogorgon attack puts a strain on their relationship.) they don't have any kids YET by the time of fantasy au, but they are fairly happy--not perfectly so, but their relationship is by no means akin to karen and ted's.

at the time of fantasy au, jonathan was by no means expecting to get a letter personally from mike about will having been taken in battle, much less to be invited back to maple house with will and his mom as will recovers. he's not very impressed with steve upon arrival, who (though improved from when he and nancy were first married) gives off an air of doucheyness. he is attracted to nancy again, though, who actually knows his name now!

after an insensitive first impression (specifics TBD) steve, of his own accord and with nancy's support, decides to befriend and make it up to jonathan, who is skeptical at first but then we get some of that stonathan goodness, an examination of their class differences, and them eventually bonding. this is where it starts. romance begins to build between them, but jonathan keeps deflecting it. he is the most cognizant of the three about propriety (stancy are privileged enough to disregard it). but at this point nancy has grown fond of him as well, and she and steve discuss what they want to do about it. one thing leads to another, jonathan is won over, and things go incredibly well for the three of them :D
