ateez as pirates who fall for you (hyung line)
read maknae line here
genre: pirate!ateez x gn!reader (fem!reader for hongjoong), fluff, angst, crack, and as always - a brainrot of every pirate trope to exist
length: 10.4k
c/w: heavy and mature themes - mdni, explicit language (swearing, insults), death, violence, blood & injuries, weapons, illegal acts (piracy, ransoming, verbal abuse, abduction), alcohol, pet names
a/n: maknae line will come yes but who knows when đ€·ââïž work has been really testing my dopamine vibes this year đđ thank you @sorryimananti-romantic for keeping a detailed hitlist for me âĄ
hongjoong
pov: you're a royal princess rescued by him
âcaptain, are you sure we canât toss her overboard?â
jongho and hongjoong watch as wooyoungâs face falls after you pointedly ignore his attempts to make conversation once again
for someone who is technically their guest aboard the arriba, it seems as though you are hellbent on being as difficult as you can be
âunfortunately, we canât,â hongjoong grouches to the younger, ânot unless we want to exchange our payment for a hefty bounty on our own headsâ
when jongho sighs, the captain squeezes his shoulder in comfort and adds on, âtrust me, iâve thought about it tooâ
hongjoong and his crew are privateers - pirates in theory, but technically excused so long as they have their letter of marque to state that they are authorised to attack other vessels
rescuing a royal princess was never explicitly part of the contract, although he thinks that not rescuing you would have pretty much been equivalent to a blatant show of insubordination
you had been taken ransom by one of the merchant ships the arriba had been plundering
needless to say, they had been close to tossing you overboard too; your kingdom had never paid for your ransom
the lack of response from your parents wasnât anything you werenât expecting but itâs a sore spot nonetheless
so itâs certainly hard for you to play friendly when youâre quite literally shucked off from stranger to stranger faster than a hot potato
san tugs wooyoung closer towards him and gently says to you, âheâs just trying to be nice - we all areâ
the movement doesnât go unnoticed by you
âi donât need your pity,â you answer, the only sentence you have spoken today
youâve lived two decades of your life pretending you donât see the pitying gazes of your maids and butlers
you certainly donât need pity from these people - pirates no less
âitâs not-â wooyoung starts to say
but the captain steps in before he can defend himself
âif this is how youâre always acting, iâm starting to see why your kingdom never paid for your ransomâ
had hongjoong been less preoccupied by your words, he would have realised that your tone is candid, as if it is only natural for the people around you to pity you
but heâs clouded with his mindset as captain, unable to stand by idly while his own crew put up with your attitude, and so the words come out anyway - shards of shrapnel that bury themselves into your heart
there is only a fleeting second when your eyes dilate with hurt
you conceal it immediately, replacing it with a steely gaze, yet the image has already seared itself into hongjoongâs mind
âmaybe you should throw me overboard, then,â you counter, âiâm sure my family will thank you for itâ
and even if you have completely neutralised your expression, no one misses the wounded tone of your voice before you disappear down into the lower deck
mingi lets out a low whistle after the resounding slam of the hatch closing
âyou fucked up, captainâ
hongjoong doesnât need anyone to spell it out for him
the heavy feeling in his stomach is telling enough
it isnât until the moon has long since risen that you emerge through the hatch again
you had bypassed the sleeping quarters to the hold, wedging yourself between barrels of grain until you were sure no one would find you
not that they would have tried to anyway - seonghwa had told them all to give you some space
you had run your finger up and down the sides of the barrels repetitively for hours on end, mind simultaneously void and filled with thoughts
the walls you had built around yourself kept you safe, but it had started to become awfully lonely after a while
when it had become a little too suffocating in the hold and you guessed that most of the crew was asleep, you had softly padded back up the stairs and across the main deck
you now sit on the foredeck where the endless expanse of the sea stretches out in front of you, closing your eyes and letting the swaying of the ship lull you into tranquillity
tonight, the moon winks down fondly upon the waters
hongjoong watches you from the quarterdeck
heâs seen you sit at the front of the ship on many nights when you should really have been asleep
he wonders if youâve always looked so small and fragile with your knees drawn up to your chest, or whether itâs because the flash of hurt in your eyes and voice is still fresh in his mind
âgo, captain,â yunho murmurs from where heâs at the helm, âitâs a quiet nightâ
hongjoong startles at having been caught gazing, clearing his throat and dragging his eyes away
âwhy should i, if sheâs just going to ignore me?â he scoffs
but he knows heâs just being petty at this point and his chest churns in agreement
âmaybe,â yunho hums softly in response. âdid seonghwa ever give up on you, though?â
itâs rhetorical - hongjoong knows the answer better than anyone
the captain doesnât say anything but after several beats of silence, he sighs and makes a move to the foredeck where you are
yunho smiles to himself
you and hongjoong may be more similar than his captain realises
your shoulders stiffen when the sound of hongjoongâs footsteps approaches
youâre not sure what to expect and you donât exactly want to find out and risk getting hurt
but having spent all day swimming alone in your thoughts, you do want to show that you feel apologetic because admittedly, you were being an ass too
getting up to walk away when heâs taken the first step certainly wonât help your case
you hold your breath in awkward silence as he settles down beside you, leaving a respectable distance between your hunched figures
only now is hongjoong realising that he hasnât actually thought about or decided on what he wants to say to you
but he can feel the confusion rolling off of you in waves, so he grits his teeth and says fuck it
âi wonât apologise for defending my crew, but iâm sorry for how i did it and for what i saidâ
he hopes you know he is sincere when he continues, âwe all have our prickly edges. i canât fault you for yoursâ
compassion is a foreign concept to you and so youâre a little stumped for words
hongjoong isnât sure whether your silence is a good or bad thing, but you have yet to stand up and walk away from the conversation
âthereâs only about a week left until we reach port and weâll leave after you make it back to your kingdom and we receive our payment. iâm not asking for you to be friendly, but letâs at least be civil with each other until then,â he says
you want to nod, agree, anything
and yet you canât seem to make your head move or the words to come out of your mouth
rome was not built in a day. but neither did its walls fall in a day
hongjoong doesnât push for an answer when instead, you ask, âhow many people have you actually tossed overboard before?â
he resists the urge to laugh at your question, suddenly endeared by the fact that youâre still bothered by his very empty threat
ânone, but my offer still stands. youâre welcome to be my first,â he deadpans
you let out a snort and although you quickly turn your head away, hongjoong sees the hint of amusement in your eyes
no further words are exchanged between the two of you and you do not acknowledge him when he eventually stands to rejoin yunho at the helm
but itâs a start
and as with any relationship, be it friend, foe, or lover, there is always that
a beginning.
hongjoong isnât really expecting much to change immediately so he doesnât pay you much mind when you walk into the mess hall the following morning
you hesitate at the entrance when you see most of the crew are already present, the conversation you had with hongjoong last night replaying at the forefront of your mind
you chew on the inside of your mouth
wooyoung stops mid-conversation at the scrape of a plate on the table, looking up to find you sliding into the seat beside him with a tight-lipped smile
to your surprise, he greets you with enthusiasm and immediately drags you into the conversation
hongjoong watches as you slowly warm up and add one or two comments of your own in between bites of your hardtack
and when he catches your gaze after staring for too long, he gives you a smile to convey his appreciation; to acknowledge your efforts
you return it with a small smile of your own and unbeknownst to you, it stays on your face for the rest of the day
slowly, there become more and more reasons that elicit a smile out of you
you still sit out on the foredeck when everyone else has gone to sleep, but on most nights, hongjoong will join you even if just for a while
the two of you are content to sit side by side with nothing but the steady pulse of the ocean and intermittent creaks of the shipâs hull to break the silence of the night
tonight though, you find curiosity burning through you
âwhatâs it like?â you ask
âbeing a pirate?â he clarifies
you shrug vaguely, unsure yourself either, âbeing a pirate. being at sea. sailing with your crewâ
he takes a moment to gather his thoughts - not because he doesnât know what to say, but because there is too much he wants to say
when hongjoong answers, his voice rumbles softly from within his chest, tender and heartfelt
âthereâs a sense of freedom that you canât obtain when youâre bound to land and society. sailing the waters, the only limits are those of the open seas and of your own compass⊠the sunrises, the storms, the moonlight - it all becomes part of your homeâ
hongjoong leans back to rest on the palms of his hands, tilting his gaze up towards the twinkling sky
he reflects, âyou experience brotherhood and gain a family that is worth multitudes more than the treasures you can accumulate, even if you were to live as a pirate for several lifetimesâ
youâre enraptured by his words, like poetry that swirls off the pages of a book and drifts into your very soul
âi may be the captain of this crew, but they make me who i am. without them, i am nothingâ
his words wash over you and unearth vivid memories
âthatâs what the queen always says to me,â you reveal
a small smile starts to grace hongjoongâs face, but it falls just as quickly when he hears your next words
âthat without her - without her title - i am nothingâ
itâs funny, how the same phrase can hold such different meanings; can evoke such different emotions
you donât elaborate any further, but hongjoong doesnât think he needs you to in order for him to understand
he just wishes he had more time to show you that your mother is wrong
he canât though
tomorrow they reach port and you will return to your rightful place in the palace
âtell me more about your crew,â you attempt to change the topic, âhow did you all find each other?â
so hongjoong tells you
he talks for hours and hours and you listen all the while with a heavy heart, clinging onto his every word
on your final night, you two stay like that until the stars disappear and the horizon becomes streaked with the pale hues of sunrise
after the ship docks mere hours later, only hongjoong accompanies you to your kingdom after goodbyes are exchanged
wooyoung doesnât take it well, and you find yourself holding back tears of your own as you are let through the palace doors with the captain by your side
but you blink them away when you approach the throne room because vulnerability is not an emotion you are willing to display
ây/nâ
the queen addresses you curtly when you enter, and hongjoong wonders for a split second whether he has brought you back to the wrong kingdom
he knows your mother does not treat you fondly, but itâs still staggering to see it before his very own eyes
the monarch glances distastefully over him before her eyes flicker back to you
âi did not expect your return,â she states
your eyes remain impassive as you merely answer, âneither am i delighted to be backâ
hongjoong recognises this look
heâs seen it when you first boarded his ship; heâs seen it when your hackles were raised
heâs seen it in himself, when he had been a teenager filled with nothing but growing resentment, before he had met seonghwa
your mother sneers, âthen you should have made yourself useful and stayed with the pirates. as a whore or a dog, whatever it took.â
hongjoong has understood you since learning of your demons, but right now, he is you
he sees fifteen-year-old kim hongjoong, standing before a couple who are his parents only by title
he sees fifteen-year-old kim hongjoong, who doesnât know what he has done that deems him undeserving of love
he sees fifteen-year-old kim hongjoong, all alone with no one to take his hand
âor really, you should have died on the shipâ
hongjoong is close enough to you to hear the small hitch in your breath at your motherâs final jab
he may not have had someone to save his younger self, but he can do that now
he can be the person he so desperately needed years ago
and so he does just that.
hongjoong grabs your hand and drags you out of the palace
no one stops the two of you from leaving and he is unsure whether his heart hurts for you or sings with relief
you can only stutter in shock as you try to keep up, âhongjoong, what about your payment?â
his determined steps do not slow down, even as he looks back at you with a sure smile, âi told you before. some things are worth more than moneyâ
the comforting squeeze of his hand conveys that you are worth more than any amount of money
the form of the arriba grows bigger in the distance and you think you can see the movement of excitement on deck when the crew spots your figures
hongjoong has slowed down his steps, but he has yet to let go of your hand
âand you deserve to know that. welcome to the crew, y/nâ
to a family and love that you never had
you think you like the sound of that
âthank you, captainâ
seonghwa
pov: you're a royal navy officer in disguise
you lay awake in your hammock, listening to the soft snores of the crew members around you
sleep doesnât come easy to you anymore
particularly tonight
you contemplate whether itâs worth the risk to simply not show up
you know what the consequences are if they capture you - a slow and painful death - but youâre unsure whether you want to put ateez on the line too
your ship is currently docked for the night, having made a port stop at alcarres following one of the crewâs wishes to retire the pirate lifestyle and settle in the small town
their last night with ateez had been celebrated with sloshing rum and rowdy jigs, something you had found strange
thereâs none of that in the royal navy
when one leaves, it is shameful and through one of three options only; old age, crippling injury, orâŠdeath
you had asked seonghwa, the quartermaster, why he and the captain were so accepting when crew members left as they wished
he had simply smiled and answered, âbetter a small but loyal crew than a large and unpredictable crewâ
his words are like a sharp stone in your shoe as you finally slip out of your hammock and make your way off the ship
as ordered, you head to the tavern addressed
you salute the person in front of you and ease into your seat with a formality only when he disregards you
âadmiral jangâ
âyouâre late,â the royal navy officer raises an eyebrow
âsorry, sir. i had to make sure everyone was asleepâ
itâs not exactly the truth, but no one needs to know that you had spent an hour in your hammock questioning your morality
he ignores your excuse, jesting as he asks of your captain, âhas the pirate king found the chartâs whereabouts yet?â
the charts
centuries ago, a crew of experienced sailors had travelled the six great seas and created the original navigational charts
the charts had become scattered and lost over time, but its value only increased exponentially as more and more sailors became victims to the sea trying to map its waters to the same detail and accuracy as the original charts
of the six originals, only the whereabouts of five are known, with most of them within the possession of the royal navy
itâs rumoured that hongjoong - the pirate king - has his hands on two of them and is currently tracking down the lost chart of the aurorian sea
the only sea that has yet to be chartered after its original map due to its dangerous and unpredictable sailing conditions
you know that your next words can hold an inexplicable amount of possibilities
ânot yet. the last lead didnât get him anywhere. turned out the last of the ahn clan had passed a decade agoâ
his lips flatten at the lack of worthwhile information
âwhereâs the captain headed to next, then?â he probes
for a split second, the thought of lying crosses your mind
you canât provide a different location - it would be much too obvious and would raise immediate suspicions
but you could give him a different time frame
after all, itâs not uncommon for navigational routes to be one to two weeks off should the waters be unpredictable enough
you find the truth spilling out of you anyway once youâre looking into his stone-cold eyes
âvlasgar. in about three weeksâ timeâ
for a moment, time stands still as your heart pounds and you attempt to slow your breathing, the officer staring back at you calculatingly
then he finally hums in satisfaction
you think that he is going to dismiss you, but as you make a move to leave, he leans back in his seat
the split second of hesitation was enough
âremember where your loyalty lies, y/nâ
the air feels cold with the underlying threat
seonghwaâs words flit through your mind
better a small but loyal crew than a large and unpredictable crew
you swallow, âof course, admiralâ
and then youâre dismissed with a nod
the unsettling feeling follows you all the way back to the ship and every miniscule creak of the floorboards underneath you seems to be amplified in the silence
you let out a short gasp of surprise when youâre about to climb back into your hammock, only to see seonghwa blinking blearily at you
âcouldnât sleep âgain?â he mumbles
you choke out a response, âyeahâ
âiâll make you tea bâfore you sleep âmorrow,â his words slur with sleepiness
âokay,â you whisper
but you know it wonât make a difference
after all, thereâs no remedy for guilt
it continues to fester the next day, as you linger outside the captainâs quarters
you canât remember why you had come down to the lower deck, but it doesnât matter now, not with seonghwa and the captain discussing what you think is related to the aurorian chart
âdo you think heâs still in vlasgar?â
âmin taesoo? itâs hard to say. but iâm sure heâll have acquaintances still on the island who may have an idea of where heâs goneâ
min taesoo
your brain tries to carefully file the name away, knowing that itâs what admiral jang would want to know, but at the same time, your heart tries to pretend it doesnât know what you have heard so that you can forget about it
you find yourself scratching the name onto a scrap of paper anyway
unbeknownst to you, at the almost-imperceivable sound of your footsteps walking away, the two men behind the doors share a look
the crew sets sail again in the afternoon towards the next destination - vlasgar - and the scrap of paper in your pocket weighs you down so heavily that you feel off-kilter as you absentmindedly follow jongho up into the rigging to unfurl the sails
youâre near the top of the ropes when a sudden wave lurches the boat to starboard
itâs only a small push, really, but with your mind elsewhere, it catches you off guard and you miss your next step
the feeling of your hand dislodging from the sudden drag of your body weight brings you back to the present with a yell of surprise
(whether itâs your own or jonghoâs, you canât remember)
your sailing experience takes over and you try to swing your body back towards the safety of the rigging
you barely manage to grasp the ropes again but your hands slip down with your weight until they hit the next knot, the hot rush of friction threatening your grip
with adrenaline rushing through your body, you shakily climb back down, where there are several pairs of hands waiting to help you down the rest of the rigging
seonghwaâs hands do not leave you even after your feet are planted on the deck again
dread and shame heat the back of your neck and curl around onto your cheeks, knowing that a mistake like the one you had just made - accidental or not - would lead to a punishment like confinement in the lower deck back in the royal navy
except, when an apology starts to form on your lips, seonghwa bursts out in dismay
ây/n, your hands!â
you let out an unintelligible noise as seonghwa gently turns your palms over and you realise that the ropes have grazed some of the skin off
âitâs fine,â you want to say
but youâre silenced when he leads you to the small sick bay on the orlop deck
even if there is no surgeon on board, there is a small chest fastened to the wall that is home to their few and valuable medical supplies
you sit as he fusses over you with alcohol and strips of cloth
although he does a good job of wrapping your hands, your insides start to bleed with how intensely guilt eats away at you, like a maggot deep inside the core of a festering apple
that night as you shuffle towards your hammock to sleep, you flinch when you find seonghwa already sitting in his
heâs fighting the heaviness in his eyes as he carefully cradles something
upon seeing you, he wordlessly hands it to you with a sleepy smile before he finally sags into his own hammock with a content sigh
you look down and the warmth of it seems to burn through the padded dressing that the man before you has tenderly wrapped around your palms
the sensation travels upwards to burn your heart too
because in your hands is a cup of warm chamomile tea
and yet, despite the emptied cup, you find yourself unable to fall asleep
but in the darkness of the sky, with no witnesses other than the waves and sea foam themselves, a small piece of crumpled paper gets tossed overboard that night
the closer their ship approaches vlasgar, the more distant seonghwa notices you become
he worries
seonghwa thinks he worries for the reasons that he should be
he is the quartermaster; entrusted to protect the crew as the captainâs right-hand man
if that means ensuring no one will compromise the rest of his crew, even if itâs you, then so be it
thatâs what he justifies to himself as he walks through the cobbled streets of vlasgar, slinking through the shadows as he follows your figure from a safe distance
(in reality, seonghwa worries for the reasons that he is not quite ready to admit yet)
he follows you into the dim bar of a tavern and carefully situates himself where he can watch over you without being discovered
he orders a mug of common ale as you approach someone
the man is dressed in civilian attire, but seonghwa can tell straight away from his demeanour and expression that he is not as ordinary as he appears
itâs confirmed when he hears you say, âadmiral jangâ
and then he sees it
the small but striking lapel pin on the breast of the manâs coat - the royal navyâs insignia
seonghwa feels for the sash thatâs hidden underneath his own jacket and his fingertips meet the cool metal of the pistol tied inside
âyou better have updates for me, y/n. whatâs the pirate kingâs purpose here in vlasgar?â
seonghwa knows he only has about five seconds to make a decision - one that could jeopardise the crew, or one that could jeopardise you
but you surprise yourself and the both of them when you answer steadfastly, âi donât know, sirâ
despite the din of drunker patrons in the tavern, it seems to fall deathly silent
âam i hearing wrong, officer?â the admiral questions with a disbelieving scoff
to your credit, your voice does not waver when you state again, âno, sir. i believe the captain and quartermaster are lying low. they have not revealed anything to me nor the rest of the crewâ
seonghwa suddenly understands why you have distanced yourself
the admiralâs jaw tics
âis that so.â
you do not respond, only focusing on the spot between his raised eyebrows as he leans forward across the table
âwhere does your loyalty lie, y/n?â
neither the admiral nor seonghwa need to hear your answer to know the truth
a small crew may be outnumbered, but they have strength in loyalty and devotion
thereâs a glint of movement from underneath the table as the admiral inches something out from his belt
seonghwa makes his decision
you flinch, eyes wide as thereâs a deafening gunshot and the table beside you splinters and scatters the tankards of alcohol onto the floor
instantaneously, chaos erupts
there are drunken yells of fright and weapons clumsily brandished, tables upturned and chairs hurled across the room
it only takes one other misfired shot for the tavern to descend into hellfire as customers who were previously drinking together now turn on one another
nobody notices the two pirates dashing out, not even admiral jang, who is busy wrangling two inebriated men off his arms
your composure dissolves the moment you are dragged into an alleyway several streets away and you look up in shock to discover-
âseonghwa?! why are you here?â
âi could say the same about you,â he counters, hardly out of breath
youâre stunned by the fact that he seems completely unfazed by the mess that he has just dragged you out of
something clicks
âwas that you? did you know all along?â
seonghwa smiles, âletâs just say youâre not as subtle as you think you are when you sneak around. plus, itâs uncommon for sailors to have the experience that you do without having had some sort of trainingâ
you curse under your breath and wince, âdoes hongjoong know too?â
the quartermaster nods and you fear the answer to your next question
âthen why has he notâŠwhy have you notâŠâ
âkilled you yet?â seonghwa chuckles. âiâm sure youâve realised by now how skewed the royal navyâs beliefs areâ
youâre quiet
the royal navy has always been cult-like in preaching the ruthlessness and barbarism of pirates, drilling into the officers the belief that pirates are the scum of the sea
but everything that youâve known has been proven false since youâve joined ateez; ironically, the pirates are more humane than the royal navy themself
their crew stand at attention whenever hongjoong or seonghwa walk onto the deck - not out of cultivated fear but genuine respect
when jongho is sore and tired from handling the riggings on a particularly rough and windy day, the others will offer to cover for his chores instead of flogging him into submission
and when mingi is divvying up the shares of the provisions and loot, the others will slip an extra bar of soap for seonghwa, the shiniest ring for mingi, or the largest bottle of rum for yunho, because they want to make each other happy
âhongjoong is the pirate king, yes, but a king should not take the lives of others for his own power. a true king uses his power to change the lives of others for the betterâŠlike yoursâŠand like mineâ
you frown with a jerk of your head
âwhat do you mean?â
you canât see seonghwa as a broken man whatsoever
he gives you a weak smile, âi, too, used to be part of the royal navyâ
your jaw drops
everything clicks into place - how he had figured out you werenât just a common sailor and why he hadnât confronted you about it
the shame and guilt come rushing back over you in a storm that is much too familiar by now
âiâm so sorry, all iâve done is betray your trust-â
âbut thatâs what second chances are for, no?â seonghwa cuts you off, playfully flicking your forehead as he reminds you, âand iâm pretty sure youâve chosen me over the royal navyâ
your cheeks grow hot
ânot you. the crew,â you mutter
he laughs and itâs a wonderful sound
âcome on, itâs late,â seonghwa beckons. âletâs get some sleepâ
when he sees that youâre still rooted to the spot, unsure whether you are deserving to go back, he decides for you and moves behind you to gently nudge you forward by the shoulders
you let him guide you
his hands are warm, you note, even through the linen of your shirt
his hands are also pretty, you observe, when he tries to fluff your hammock once you two have crept your way back to the berth
seonghwa helps you up into the hammock and you watch as he climbs into his
his hands are also teeming with love, you realise, when he wordlessly extends his arm nearest to you in a silent invitation
if you both reach out, you can just entwine your hands together from your respective hammocks
the burns on your palms have healed nicely and without the need for them to be wrapped, you can feel every expanse of his hand covering yours
he doesnât retract his hand and neither do you, even though itâs not the most comfortable position and you both lose feeling of your arms soon after
but you lay in your hammock, drifting to the soft snores of the crew members around you and the soft tug of seonghwaâs fingers in yours
sleep comes easy to you
particularly tonight
as it will for the rest of your life
yunho
pov: you're the crew's navigator
you know itâs going to happen even before it actually does
you can feel it in the air and from the way the baby hairs around your hairline start to frizz
but you never say anything because you wouldnât trade it for the moment when the first raindrop hits the back of yunhoâs neck and he abandons his duty at the helm to drag you out onto the upper deck
(hongjoong only sighs in defeat before he stations himself at the helm instead)
you donât like the rain
not like yunho does
you are already looking up from the map spread out in the captainâs quarters, a knowing smile on your face just from the sound of his bounding footsteps alerting you of his presence, when yunho appears with the beckon of rain
you pretend to let yourself be dragged to your feet along to his urges of come on!
but then you dash forward towards the hatch with yunho chasing after your bright laughter
in the short span of time that it has taken him to fetch you, the sprinkle of rain has steadily grown and the weathered planks of the deck are already a dark grey
you feel the coldness of the raindrops hitting the crown of your head and the spreading chill as your clothes start to become damp
but thatâs not what makes you feel alive
yunho catches up to you easily and then he is snaking his arms around your waist to lift you up into the air
you barely have time to squeal and steady yourself on his broad shoulders before he is spinning the two of you around, the world blurring away as the spotlight shines on him and he is all that you can see
the deck is your stage and the sea is your audience
rain with yunho is twirling hugs, tiptoed kisses and tinkling laughter. itâs soaked shirts and rosy cheeks and the only thing that matters in the moment
you donât like the rain, but itâs easy to like the rain when itâs with him
(hongjoong lets the two of you be - so obviously and hopelessly enamoured by each other - because when one sees people in love, one cannot help but watch and smile)
the rain eventually peters out and you and yunho must return to your respective duties, but not until you two have changed out of your drenched clothes and sneaked in a few more kisses
a few hours later, you hear the racket above the deck as a ship pulls up beside the arriba and ropes are thrown across from both sides to lash the vessels close together
hongjoong comes down to join you in his quarters, but heâs not alone
behind him is the captain of the silver light, dae jihoo, and his quartermaster, with seonghwa entering last
you note that this crew doesnât have a navigator of their own
but you suppose thatâs one of the reasons why their captain had implored an alliance for this particular raid
the crew of the silver light are wanting to target the prosperity triangle - an area between three large ports that is frequently trafficked by wealthy vessels transporting valuable goods
itâs a raid that would prove difficult for a smaller pirate crew like your own and the silver light, and especially if they have no navigator
but itâs not uncommon for pirates to form temporary alliances for such purposes, and together, your crews have a good chance of plundering a fortune
you nod your head in acknowledgement when hongjoong introduces you to the two pirates as ateezâs navigator
you donât miss the way jihooâs eyes seem to linger on you for a second too long before he flashes a crooked grin and gestures towards the navigational map spread out on the oak table
clearing your throat of discomfort, you step forward and flatten the creases out with your hands
âthis is the most open spot within the triangle that the vessel weâre after will pass through,â you tap an annotated spot on the chart, âand this is where we are nowâ
you slide your finger across, âweâll follow the rhumb line west to avoid the shallower waters and when we can catch the trade winds, it should be smooth sailing from thereâ
jihoo challenges you, âhow can you be sure weâll catch the ship within the triangle?â
âtheyâll need to sail past the equator and iâm almost certain their ship will be slowed down by the doldrums. we can easily gain knots on themâ
he squints at the scribbles youâve made noting down what youâve gathered of the wind patterns
you know for a fact that it will mean nothing to him, but whatever he sees must satisfy him because jihoo appears to make up his mind
âwhen do we set sail?â he directs his question to your captain
âthree days from nowâ
he grunts a noise of affirmation and stands, which hongjoong takes as the cue to see them and the rest of their crew off your ship
you trail behind the group as you all head back to the upper deck
you prepare to emerge from the hatch with a playful wink, knowing that yunho will be craning his neck from the helm to get a glimpse of you, when a sudden holler surprises you out of your thoughts
itâs immediately met with the answering cries of several other pirates - none from your crew - and you hurry to clear the hatch to gain your bearings
youâre thrust right into the throes of battle as ateez are forced to unsheathe their cutlasses to defend against silver lightâs sudden attack
having been caught off guard, basically none of your firearms are loaded with gunpowder, rendering them unusable
you will have to make do with the short sabre at your waist
thereâs no time to account for the whereabouts and safety of your crew members and you just have to pray that you all make it out of this unscathed
especially yunho
but as ateez retaliate, you all notice something is off about the situation
your crew is very quickly overpowering the other pirates - it was a losing fight for them from the very beginning
it makes no sense to you nor the rest of your crew
the losses of breaking the alliance before the planned raid, much less through betrayal, far outweigh any gains they could possibly make from their choice of action
it makes absolutely no sense
until it does.
you are blocking the swing of a sabre with your own when you are tugged backwards harshly by the collar of your shirt
thereâs an angry snarl in your throat as you prepare to turn around, but itâs quickly silenced by the warning shot of a pistol right beside your ear
the cold ring of metal is then pressed to the back of your head
you know that firearms require time to reload and thereâs a chance that this pistol is now useless
but, like wooyoung has taught the rest of the crew to do, they may have pre-prepared several pistols and you are not willing to play with fire - especially when you are only the flex of a finger away from death
you vaguely hear someone yell out your name in panic, but youâre not quite sure you hear correctly over the clamour of cutlasses clashing, warcries resounding and your own heartbeat pounding
âstand down or your navigator dies,â the voice behind you thunders
itâs jihooâŠand he wants a navigator for his crew
âateez,â one of your men commands, âlower your weaponsâ
your crew may make decisions fairly, but in battle, only hongjoong has the power to make commands
yunho has never spoken against his captain or disobeyed orders
until now
the words do not come out of your captainâs mouth but yunhoâs
the rest of the members hesitate - they will not stand down unless hongjoong commands them to, yet, they are unsure whether they will be able to follow should he demand them to fight on, even if it means endangering your life
but there is no guarantee jihoo will let your crew go unharmed even after you all surrender, and as the captain, hongjoong must make decisions in the best interest for the crew
âcaptain!â yunho yells desperately
yunho never yells
âstand down,â hongjoong commands
silver lightâs captain steps in closer behind you until you can hear and feel the noise of intriguement that leaves his mouth down the back of your neck
âthat your loverboy, hmm?â
he smirks
thereâs a false moment of primal relief when the press of the pistol is removed from the back of your head, but it is immediately replaced with fear that is irrevocably worse as he aims it in yunhoâs direction and shoots
âno!â
you shriek and pull against the tug of his hold, still fisted around your collar, your pupils blown wide with terror at the sight of the clean hole in the mast right beside yunhoâs head
âitâll be pretty boyâs head next if you donât come with me,â jihoo coos into your ear
the fight slips out of you immediately
because if you can save him, a life for a life, then you will
even if the sight of mingi holding yunho back from lunging forward when the pistolâs barrel returns to your head makes your heart clench painfully
ây/n, donât you dare,â yunho pleads, voice filled with anguish
youâre barely given enough time to lock eyes with him and say resolutely, âremember what you said to me,â before you are tugged away to the boarding plank
ateez can only watch helplessly as the planks are removed from over the bulwarks and the last of the ropes are untied, releasing the silver light from their ship for good
jihoo tugs you down the hatch as the ship starts to pull away, and just like that, youâre gone from their sights
âfuck!â yunho shouts furiously, unable to contain his emotions as he turns around and connects his fist with the mast
right where the musket ball had made a hole
his hand pulls away with bloodied knuckles from the splintered wood and the sheer force of his punch
a concerned whine leaves seonghwaâs mouth and he tries to approach the taller, but yunho shakes him off and looks determinedly at hongjoong
âweâre sailing to the banver isle just east of the triangle. weâll ambush them thereâ
seonghwa looks between the two, hope flickering in his chest at the potential plan, âyou think the silver light are stupid enough to try taking on the prosperity triangle alone?â
yunho chuckles darkly, âthey were fucking shitbrained enough to take y/n, so yesâ
nobody disagrees and hongjoong smirks dangerously
âateez, ready the sails for banver isle,â he commands. âprepare for battleâ
because not only have the silver light taken you away from ateez, but they have also annihilated the light from yunhoâs eyes
gone are his warm brown orbs - they are now black holes thirsty for retribution
there will be lives to pay and even that will not be enough for the void
unaware of what your crew is capable of, jihoo looks down at you with a triumphant leer
âyouâll navigate us to the triangle in three daysâ time. donât even think about lying - youâve already shown me where the location isâ
with an even nod you reply, âof courseâ
itâs true though - you have absolutely no intention of navigating them somewhere else
because you know yunho will be waiting there for you
amidst chaste kisses exchanged between plush lips cold from the rain, yunho tells you in a brief moment of seriousness
âdonât show them where the real location is,â his breath is warm across your cheeks. âyou know the coastal island roughly ten nautical miles away? show them that insteadâ
you tilt your head to look up at him, âyou think theyâll betray us?â
âno,â he reassures you with a deeper, slower kiss, âbut we can never be too safeâ
and even if your vessels miss each other this time, you have complete faith that yunho will sail to the very ends of the world just to find you
two days before the originally-planned raid, the arriba sails as closely to banver isle as possible without risking running aground
yunho has navigated the ship around the back of the isle so that the form of the rocky terrain conceals them from sight
once the anchor is lowered, the crew members use every ticking moment to make preparations
swords are sharpened and firearms cleaned
mingi distributes the gunpowder and ammunition, which is pre-loaded into muskets, pistols and swivel cannons ready to be engaged
the shipâs sails and riggings are checked and yeosang keeps a keen lookout in the crowâs nest
and itâs as if the world itself can sense the brewing storm that grows inside yunho
the sea is eerily still and silent, but the sky is an omen to something impending, its rolling clouds dark and angry with the threat of rain leering over the waters
yunho doesnât actually like the rain
he only likes it because itâs with you
rain with you is barefoot dancing, breathless confessions and bashful giggles. itâs drenched locks and fluttering eyelashes and the only thing that exists in the moment
but as the profile of the silver light finally approaches the isle two days later, the heavens split open and you are not by his side
rain without you is falling pinpricks, frigid winds and flaunting mockery and yunho despises it with his entire being
at yeosangâs call of, âvessel approaching from starboard,â up in the lookout, yunho smothers the fervid desire to barrage the other ship with cannonballs like hail from hell; to unleash an inferno that blazes through their hull as he sadistically watches the crew jump for their lives
he stamps out the hunger to shoot the ones that make it into the sea, not to kill, only to maim and induce a long, painful struggle in the open waters until death becomes inevitable - until there is enough blood spilt that it becomes the only stench in the air that stretches across for miles
yunho leashes his monsters with an iron fist
because he will not do anything that could even remotely endanger your life
even if it means that he has to hold back - to sit and wait like prey instead of advancing on the other ship like a predator
at least not yet.
silver light do not know, but this is the calm before the storm
the heavens may be crying, the winds may be howling and the waters may be roiling
but this is nothing compared to yunho
yunho is a tempest of unparalleled rage and their ship is in the eye of his storm
as the bowsprit of the silver light starts to appear around the isle, the members ready their grappling hooks and yunho draws his cutlass with a menacing whisper of unsheathing metal
you are his treasure, and pirates never lose sight of their treasure
todayâŠyou return to him
yeosang
pov: you're a tavern keeper
watching the ale reach the brim of the tankard you are holding, youâre about to step away from the barrel when the voice of a patron sounds behind you
ââscuse me, could i get a mint-â
you look up and turn around in confusion as their voice cuts off
only to have the question taken right from the tip of your own tongue as youâre met with the face of the person you had loved for years
the same person you have spent twice as long trying to forget
eyes searching each otherâs in a surprised stupor, seeing kang yeosang standing right in front of you takes you back to those memories that you have tried to remember and simultaneously bury
it thrusts you headfirst into what used to be of your shared love - like the feathery remnants of a dream, so distant from the fingers of your consciousness, suddenly returning to vivid existence when you least expect it
âhey, mint leaf. iâm backâ
yeosang at least has the perceptiveness to appear a little apologetic, immediately pulling you into a hug and pressing soft kisses against your hairline uncaring of the other people in the tavern
itâs been several weeks since you last saw him, and whilst he had warned you he would be gone for longer this time, you hadnât expected it to mean two whole months
heâs a small merchant who also fishes along the coast to earn enough to make ends meets, so heâs often gone for a few days or a week or two
you knew what you were in for when you first made it official with him, but just because you become accustomed to something, doesnât mean it gets any easier
and heâs never been gone for this long
something must have happened - something good - because he looks alive, cheeks glowing and eyes fiery
âi met the crewâ
âthe crew?â you ask, hands reaching for the bourbon to prepare him a drink as he lets himself behind the counter to stand beside you in your workspace
he nods excitedly, "wooyoungâs pirate crew, ateez"
you think you know where this is going to go and you hate that your stomach sinks at the thought of what your future may become, because yeosang looks so happy to tell you about this and a happy yeosang is all that you could ask for
âthe captain offered me a position as their lookoutâ
you pick out your next words carefully as you hand him his finished drink - a mint julep with two sugar cubes, just the way he likes it
"aren'tâŠisn't being a pirate dangerous?"
ânot as dangerous as you might think, actually. theyâve been showing me the ropes the last couple of weeks andâŠand i think i want to join them. officiallyâ
there it is
the forked end of the road
you wonder how far two people can keep walking with their hands intertwined before the distance becomes too great and they have to let go
his words become a little muddled when he goes on to tell you about how they divvied up their recent loot to include his share too
how heâs gained more money than heâs made from the last two years of working as a merchant and fisherman combined
if he joins his old friend and his crew, he could earn enough to buy his parents a proper house; earn enough to build you your very own tavern
you want to tell him that you donât need the tavern, just him, but you also know just how important his family is to him
his filial desire to take care of his parents was one of the very reasons you fell in love with him in the first place
before you can say anything though, the tavern keeper is interrupting to let you know that your shift is over
yeosang immediately perks up and herds you out of the place, claiming that there is a new fishing spot he discovered that he has to show you
and so you sit while he rows his modest boat, only the splash of his oars disturbing the peaceful stillness that has settled over the waters as the sun dips below the horizon
the waning light casts a soft, warm glow over him, like a gentle kiss against his skin and birthmark
if angels graced the earth, there would be one sitting right in front of you
âi missed you, mint leaf,â he confesses, gaze shyly averted. âi thought about you when i was goneâ
âdid you think about showing me this place?â you feel a little breathless
he nods, âevery single nightâ
and thatâs enough for you
it feels like everything is okay again
it doesnât matter if youâre standing at a forked road
you think that perhaps, for him, you can walk on an unpaved path - just so that you can keep holding his hand
ây/nâ
yeosangâs voice is deep
the word sounds foreign to your own ears but you donât dwell on it
(because if you do, youâll wonder whether itâs because youâve forgotten the sound of his voice or because you want to hear him calling you something else)
âwhat would you like to order?â you ask
(because itâs easier to pretend that heâs just another patron than to admit that he used to be all that you ever knew)
yeosang fumbles a little but then regains himself, âoh, um- just a mint julep, pleaseâ
you turn your back to him to prepare his drink, hands reaching for the barrels lined along the bottom shelves without needing to look
youâve made this drink too many times to count
half of those times were in the safety of the darkness that midnight offered; when the tears could flow freely without anyone seeing
itâs only when you start to mix his cocktail that yeosang realises he didnât ask for his sugar cubes, but he figures the drink will taste bitter tonight either way so he opts to watch you instead
he wishes that he could walk past the counter like he used to and wrap his arms around you
he wishes that he could whisper endearments into your ears and press them against your lips
he wishes that he could show you that he still loves you
âdo you still love me?â your voice wavers with hurt as you stand in front of him
heâs finally back after being gone for four months this time and you hate this conversation as much as he does, but it was bound to happen eventually
yeosang pleads, âmore than anythingâ
âthen why does it hurt so much? loving youâŠand being loved by youâ
he doesnât have an answer
but god be damned if he doesnât try to find a way to fix things
âtell me, mint leaf, what can i do?â
you blink back your tears furiously, having already made up your mind while he was still at sea
âletâs break upâ
because in the end, unpaved paths have too many rocks, too many thorns and too many arched roots; they were never meant to be walked along
you pass yeosang his finished drink without another word and then move further down the counter to serve a different customer
his eyes linger on you wistfully before he tears them away from you
itâs a good thing his hair has grown long enough to cover his face when he looks down
because his eyes start to grow wet at the sight of the mint julep you have made him
with two sugar cubes in it, just the way he likes it
perhaps, once youâve loved somebody, you never really stop loving them
yeosang shows up again the next day and seats himself at the bar
you donât serve him though, actively avoiding his end of the counter and letting another of your staff tend to him
he orders his usual but he leaves out his request for additional sugar cubes
it feels wrong for him to order it from someone that isnât you
but youâre watching out of the corner of your eye as the worker mixes the bourbon, sugar and water, topping it with a few mint leaves and then sliding it across the counter for him
you let out a little sigh, half amused, when he takes a small sip and smacks his lips together at the bitterness
you take two sugar cubes and drop it unceremoniously into his pewter cup before you realise what youâre doing
yeosang immediately seizes the opportunity to talk to you
âmy crewâs docked for the fortnightâŠâ he waits to see if youâll respond. you donât, but you also donât move away, so he continues. âweâre making some repairs to the hull and sails before our next raidâ
you have half a mind to walk away after you reply, âi didnât askâÂ
he forges on regardless
âweâre going to work with another crew for this one. itâs going to increase our chances of a successful raid because-â
your voice comes out a little harsher than you mean for it to when you hiss again, âi didnât askâ
yeosangâs mouth closes as he pulls away slightly, back straightening
then he says in a softer voice, âiâve been doing well. wooyoung still takes care of me, even though iâm not new to the crew anymore. i also saw my parents today and theyâre happily retired nowâŠâ
you donât stop him from talking this time
because how many sleepless nights have you spent sitting outside your tavern looking up at the stars; how many times have you served a mint julep to a patron and accidentally added sugar cubes; how many moments have you been consumed by the thought of him, simply wondering if he is living well?
this is everything that you have ever wanted - yeosang in the flesh letting you know that, yes, he has been well
but it is also everything that you have ever feared - that he has been well even without you
you donât know what to feel
âmy parents asked about you,â he says gingerly. âhow have you been?â
his voice is barely audible, as if he is afraid of what you might say
or perhaps, afraid that you might not say anything at all
âgood. excellent,â you force a small smile, your eyes still focused on the mint leaves floating in his drink. you donât think you can look at him. âi own this place nowâ
his body loses its tension, cheeks rounding as he looks at you with genuine relief
âthatâsâŠthatâs really good to hearâ
his words sting
you are unsure if it stings your ego or if it picks at the wound in the shape of the person you have lost
but it hurts to know that he has worried over you in the exact same way you have over him, the whole time you two have been apart
youâre suddenly overwhelmed by the realisation and hot tears well in your eyes almost immediately
your bottom lip starts to crumple so you rush into the back room to escape
ây/n!â yeosang calls out after you, alarmed
when you donât stop, disappearing into the storage, he jolts up from his seat and follows
your body shudders with every heaving breath you take, unable to stop yourself from crying even harder when you feel him tug you into his chest
you try to pull away but his sturdy arms tighten around you
yeosang refuses to let you go once more
âi hate you,â you sob, struggling against his hold as you hit his chest weakly
he hushes comforts against the crown of your head, soothing noises as he endures your fists
âyou have every reason toâ
yeosang holds back tears of his own
he feels your body gradually losing its fight, sinking into his embrace instead, hands desperately holding him close
your voice is so impossibly small when you tearfully confess, âbut i still love youâ
âoh, mint leaf,â he brushes the stray locks of hair away from your face and cradles your jaw tenderly, âi still love you, tooâ
he presses a soft kiss against your forehead, pulling away once only to reaffirm, âso, so muchâ
when he kisses you again, his lips taste salty against your own, but nothing has ever tasted sweeter than this
your breath no longer stutters but the tears continue to run down your face because your heart finally feels right after all these years apart
and yet-
you pull away
âwe canât do thisâ
yeosang feels his heart shattering
âwhy not? i donât understand,â he whimpers
âyou know why,â you say distressingly, âmy life is here, yeosang. i canât just leave and return whenever i want. but you, on the other hand? you can. you go where your crew goes - you belong with themâ
âbut my heart belongs to you. please, y/n,â he begs
his arms are still wrapped around you and you feel his desperation as his fingers cling onto you like a lifeline
you look earnestly into his bloodshot eyes, your own vision blurry, âyeo, youâre not the one who gets left behind here. youâre not the one who waits weeks, months, years on end, just hoping that the next person to walk in is the person that you want to seeâ
he wants to plead that he waits to see you, too, but he knows that heâs the one who leaves, too
âyouâre the right one for me - the only one for me - but itâs not the right time,â you tell him gently
slowly, his arms lower themselves from around you
âit wasnât the right time then and it isnât the right time now,â he repeats, âthen when is the right time for us?â
you shoot the question right back at him, âwhen is the right time for someone whose life is to sail the world?â
neither of you know the answer
nobody does, because loving a pirate has no certainties
but yeosang doesnât give up
âif we canât ever be sure, why donât we just make it the right time ourselves?â
you caress his cheek sweetly, and despite having stepped away from you earlier, he leans into your hand, starved of your loving touch and affection
âyeosangâŠwhat if weâve already had it? what ifâŠmeeting each other was already it? what if weâre just meant to love from a distance, not side by side?â your voice is poignant but resolute
he brings up a hand to cover yours, still warm and tender against his wet cheek
how is it that he can be touching you yet simultaneously feel worlds apart from you
âokay,â he accepts with a whisper
if loving you silently is the only way he gets to love you, then he will choose it in a heartbeat over losing you entirely
he thumbs away the remainder of your tears
âcan i kiss you? one last time?â he asks
you nod
âone last timeâ
your lips slowly meet, slotting together as they find their home in each otherâs dips and curves
his hands cradle the small of your back and neck and your own hands rest against his chest
the kiss you share is steady, longing and bittersweet
it conveys everything that you want to say to each other, and even then, it is hardly enough
thank you
iâm sorry
i love you
goodbyeâŠ
you can feel your eyes burning up again, but you focus on the feeling of yeosangâs lips against yours instead
because you know that the moment one of you pulls away, that is it forever
in the world of love, there are people who are ill-fated
they meet the right person, but at the wrong time
and then there are people like you and yeosang
not ill-fated, but star-crossed lovers
the right personâŠ
but just not meant to be

kyle seducing the cold detached woman who's levels above his station đ
yeah so i wrote way too much
want
pairing: kyle garrick x fem!reader cw: third person pov, hints to childhood trauma, therapy is mentioned, smut
it doesnât help that he has a big fat crush on her. and she knows this, but couldnât give two fucks.
kyle has never had to work this hard to get someone into his bed. heâd barely turn on the charm and would still have them dropping their panties. but this woman in particular, she made him realize it wasnât going to be easy and heâd have to work for it.
kyle starts giving her flowers with cute little notes attached and she just chucks them into the trash because, âi donât like roses, garrick. stop sending me flowers.â
kyle does not listen to her at all though. every bouquet he buys gets thrown away, much to his dismay. sheâll never tell him this, but one day she ended up giving a vase of flowers to one of her girlfriends because they were far too pretty to be in someoneâs trash bin. eventually, kyle stops sending flowers and steps his game up.
he starts leaving chocolate on her desk, her favorite brands at that. itâs the fancy and expensive kind too.
at first, the chocolate just sits on her desk untouched. she would rather eat a jean jacket than to admit she finds it kind of cute that kyle refuses to give up. her icy exterior begins to dissolve a little when he starts popping up with snacks, jumbo crossword puzzles, and books for her to read.
âiâm still not entertaining whatever you think is going to happen between us, garrick. keep your delusions to yourself,â she says flatly, but thanks him and accepts his gifts anyway.
kyle just laughs and says, âweâll see.â
his response bothers her for the rest of the day and she canât figure out why.
her heart softens even more when her birthday arrives and sheâs stuck in her office doing paperwork. sheâs absolutely miserable about it, until kyle knocks on her door, her words getting stuck in her throat when she sees the cake and balloons he has for her.
âwhy would you do all of this!?â she asks hotly, once sheâs regained her composure. she doesnât even know why sheâs so upset with him in the first place. heâs just being nice.
âbecause you deserve it, and you shouldnât have to spend your birthday alone.â
she wants to rage at him some more. she wants to throw him out and tell him to never come back because somehow heâs managed to worm his way into her heart. she wants to kick him in his shin for making her fall for him. but because she canât bring herself to do any of that, she lets him stay to sing happy birthday to her.
and if kyleâs visits become more frequent after that, she canât find it in herself to complain. his presence makes her happy.
kyle can be a very persistent man when he needs to be, but he chooses to believe sheâll change her mind about him eventually. sheâs been opening up to him more, and he considers that progress.
he remembers the first time he met her. she was a pretty thing with a no nonsense attitude. he knew he was down bad for this woman when heâd come to her defense whenever he heard people calling her a bitch around base.
and today was no different. she was well aware of the names people called her, but she really didnât give a shit. âit doesnât hurt me,â she says to kyle, whoâs currently holding a recruit by the collar of his shirt.
heâd been within earshot of the little bastard addressing his soon to be sweetheart by several unpleasant names that made his blood boil.
kyle is more than pissed off, especially after she orders him to let the young recruit go. âyou hear the names they call you, the things they say. and yet you do fuck all about it,â he snaps before sighing. heâs not mad at her though. heâs just a little frustrated because she wonât so anything about it. he refuses to believe that nothing bothers her.
she stares at kyle in shock. heâs never spoken to her like this before, and she doesnât like it one bit. so she tells him to get out.
but unfortunately for her, kyle doesnât budge. ânah,â he says, before taking a seat on the chair in front of her desk. âi think iâll sit here a little longer. you can finish your work, i wonât bother you.â
she just huffs at him, then picks her pen up and resumes her work.
when sheâs done, kyle is still there. he has his earbuds in and heâs laughing quietly at something on his phone. she just knows heâs on tiktok. probably watching some video about a cat. when she finds herself staring too hard and enjoying his laughter just a bit too much, she nudges him under the desk with her foot.
kyle pulls his earbuds out and sits up straight. âyou finished, love?â
love?
itâs the first time heâs called her that, and it wrecks her a little bit. i donât deserve him, she thinks to herself.
she just nods silently in response to his question, not trusting herself to speak and only doing so when kyle offers to walk her to her quarters. if heâs surprised when she says yes, he doesnât show it. he just ushers her out of the office and down the hallway.
when they arrive at her door, she thanks him. kyle just waves her off and says, âanything for you, sweetheart.â
âstop calling me that,â she huffs. âand stop doing whatever this is.â
she watches as kyleâs brows furrow in confusion. âwhat is it that you think iâm doing?â
âif you wanted to get into my pants, you could have just asked.â she actually laughs when kyle stares at her in surprise. âand donât act so shocked, garrick. iâve known what you wanted since day one.â
âdo you?â kyle asks as he steps into her space, watching in amusement as she fumbles to come up with an answer. he knew she would have told him to fuck off when they first met. âif you think sex is all i want, then youâre wrong. i want you.â
sheâll lie about it for the rest of her life if anyone ever asks her how she responded to kyleâs statement. instead of tearing him apart with her words, she gets a little teary eyed, much to her embarrassment.
âyou shouldnât want me,â she whimpers. âi havenât been very nice to you.â
kyle just shrugs and lets her know that he likes a challenge every now and then. he doesnât let her respond. he bids her goodnight with a kiss on her forehead, then gently shoves her into her room.
kyle walks her to her room again the next evening, and this time, he bullies her into inviting him in. she almost had a fit when he climbed into her bed and demanded she cuddle with him. at first, the word no was at the tip of her tongue, but then the intrusive thoughts won that round.
sheâd struggled with how intimate it was to have kyleâs arms around her, not wanting him to touch her because she knew it would shatter the walls sheâd carefully built over the years. he took one look at her and told her to stop fighting her feelings. sheâd almost snapped at him, until she saw the look in his eyes. sheâd hurt him and herself if she told him no. so she surrendered herself to him completely.
âitâs just for tonight, you can go back to hating me tomorrow.â
her heart breaks when kyle says it so casually, as if heâs trying not to make it a big thing, when it absolutely is.
sheâs never hated kyle a day in her life. she just doesnât understand why he wants to be with someone as cold as her? why would he want to be with a woman who was so damn traumatized, she thought everyone who approached her had some ulterior motive. having an unpleasant childhood and learning not to trust anyone would do that to a person.
during a session, she spoke to her therapist about kyle. she even told the other woman about the gifts he gave her. he wonât leave me alone, she had complained.
have you asked him to leave you be?
well, no. butâ
think about why that is.
sheâd almost quit therapy that day. she didnât want to think about kyle and the way he made her feel.
after the life sheâd lived, she promised to never let anyone get close enough to see how vulnerable she could be. she was convinced they would just take advantage. so she hardened her heart and became more frigid as the years went by. sometimes when she looked in the mirror, she didnât see an ounce of her past self.
âyouâre tense.â
her body gives a little surprised jolt at the sound of kyleâs voice. âiâm sorry,â she mumbles, while trying to relax in his arms.
âwhatâs on your mind?â kyle asks, before pressing a kiss to her forehead and stroking a hand down her back.
she shrugs and tells him not to worry about it, even though she knows itâs already too late for that.
âdonât do that. thereâs something bothering you, sweetheart.â
she sighs softly, before lifting her head off his chest. âyouâre right, but i donât want to talk about it right now. just hold me please.â
and itâs truly a blur after that, not knowing how she ended up on her back with kyleâs fingers intertwined with hers and his cock buried deep in her pussy. heâs already syphoned one orgasm out of her with his tongue, and now he wants to have her creaming around his cock this time.
sheâs not sure what sheâs gotten herself into. because when kyle gives her the filthiest grind against her pussy, his leaking cock pressing up against her g-spot, her eyes roll so far back into her head, sheâs surprised they donât get stuck. a pleasure filled sob spills from her lips when kyle does it again and again until sheâs clawing at his back and wailing so loud, he has to quickly smother her cries with his mouth.
he knows sheâll probably never live it down if someone walks by the room and hears how loud she can be when sheâs getting fucked within an inch of her life.
kyle actually has the audacity to pause mid thrust to say, âdamn, i didnât know you could sing like that.â
he laughs when she gives him a whiny shut up and fuck me please. he watches the way her scowl disappears when he pulls out, then bullies his cock back into her drooling pussy.
âfuck, pussyâs so tight and wet around my dick, just gushing,â kyle hisses out with a roll of his hips, eyes almost crossing when she tightens around his cock. âyouâre gonna strangle me to death. christ.â
âiâm sorry,â she manages to choke out through the overwhelming sensation of his cock hitting her sweet spot repeatedly. she was in fucking heaven.
âdonât be. youâre doinâ so good for me, sweetheart,â kyle croons in her ear. âyouâre takinâ me so well. gonna have you fallinâ apart on this dick every night.â
âplease.â his words are entirely too much for her handle.
âplease what?â kyle coos, as his cock drags against her spongy walls. âgonna see how good youâll be when i stretch that ass out with my fingers first, and then on my cock.â
the cry she emits when her senses white out completely and all she can feel is the sheer pleasure of her orgasm, is loud enough to be heard out in the hallway.
kyle doesnât slow down when he tells her to give him one more. she wants to call him greedy, but sheâs too busy moaning and writhing underneath him while he rubs her clit in sync with his thrusts. when she cums again, kyle is filling her pussy up to the brim with his seed and moaning her name.
kyle has to force her out of bed after he suggests they shower and change the sheets. she whines about being tired, but lets him guide her to the bathroom anyway.
she spirals a little when sheâs sure she kyle is sleeping. she doesnât want him to hear her weeping. and the second a pitiful whimper escapes her mouth, sheâs out of the bed and locking herself in the bathroom, where she can cry freely.
she tries to avoids kyle after that, but heâs not having it.
he wonât let her run from this. when she tries to deny it, he calls her out on it and lets her know that theyâll be having a lengthy discussion when he gets back. âmy teammates and i are leaving base. gotta put an end to some shit none of us want to deal with, and iâm not sure when iâll be back, sweetheart.â
during the three months that kyle is gone, sheâs missing him more than she thought she would. phone calls and video calls arenât enough anymore. he tries to soothe her by telling her heâll be seeing her soon, but she cries anyway.
itâs only then that she comes to a startling realization.
she finally tells her therapist what sheâs been wanting to tell kyle for weeks.
i think i love him. no, i know i love him.
when she sees kyle again, she launches herself at him immediately, much to everyoneâs surprise, because since when was kyle dating anyone.
soap, price, and ghost canât help but to stare at her and kyle in wonder. sheâs clutching at kyle, while crying her eyes out and telling him how much she loves him and how much she misses him. eyebrows raise when she drags him into a kiss thatâs damn near pornographic.
kyle beams at her when he pulls away from the kiss, before he pulls her in for a soft peck and a hug that leaves her a little breathless.
and leave it up to him to ruin the moment when he says, âso, about that talk.â
she just groans and lets him drag her across the tarmac.

â§ïœĄ kei tsukishima
going to your boyfriendâs volleyball matches was always a fun experience. the electricity and passion some players exuded was truly contagious.Â
also, you got to see him being all hot and sweaty.
definitely an amazing time!
everyone in the sendai frogs were always incredibly welcoming to you, too. his teammates even ask about you when youâre not there (or, at least thatâs what tsukishima tells you). regardless of whether or not heâs telling the truth, you would say you do feel truly welcome and comfortable around there.
today was match day. you made sure kei had everything ready, though itâs not like heâs the type to be forgetful or anything. still, he lets you fuss over him all you want without uttering a complaint (which you know must have been truly difficult for him).
once you got to the location where his team would be playing, he bid you goodbye with a short peck on the cheek. his teammates waved to you, too. there were two new teammates, just as kei had told you. you recognized kentaro from highschool, and though he still had the same grumpy attitude, he was nice enough to you. the other guy, though⊠you had no clue who he was.
settling on a seat with a decent view of the match, you prepared yourself for the exhilarating time you were probably about to have.
and that you did.
the sendai frogs won 2-1, and you really couldnât have been happier. well, actually, it felt as if you were about to have a heart attack throughout the duration of that whole game. everytime kei jumped up to block a powerful spike you felt your heart jump. you imagined any doctor would think youâre close to having your heart malfunction.
you basically raced out of the audience seats, already ready to jump into your boyfriendâs arms and congratulate him with many kisses and hugs that he will probably complain about. whatever âhe can mutter all the complaints he wants about pda and stuff, but youâre too happy to not smother him with love.
one problem, though.
you could not find him anywhere.
no matter, you figured he was probably in the changing room or something. you could just wait outside for him for a bit, and if he didnât come out, youâd go look for him.
meanwhile, tsukishima was trying his hardest to not blow up at his new teammate.
âis she your friend, then?â he asked him. it was probably his 100th question regarding you at this point, and he was well past his tolerance limit.
âno.â
âso⊠your sister?â
tsukishima scoffed, you two didnât even look alike. âno.â
âjeez, no need to be so harsh, dude. i just think sheâs hot,â the guy stated, while changing into a clean shirt.
koganegawa, whoâd been listening in, cheerfully piped up. âwell, sheâs his girlfriend! so i donât think tsuki appreciates that very much.â
the guyâs eyes widened. âoh. i didnât know dude, my bad.â
tsukishima cast him a cold glare and resumed changing without another word.
you were getting antsy waiting for him. what is taking him so long? you were bored. well, you figured enough time had passed that itâd be okay for you to go looking for him, so you did. but, while you were heading his way, you bumped into a man.
âoh! iâm so sorry! i was distracted,â you apologized deeply.
âitâs no problem, really. i-â the man said, before stopping abruptly.
â...is something the matter?â you asked, noticing the way the manâs wide gaze roamed over you.
a sudden grin appeared on his face, his expression resembling one of someone whoâd just won the lottery ticket.Â
âyouâre absolutely gorgeous.â
you sputtered, taken aback by his directness. âoh uh⊠thank you?â
âcan i have your number?â he asked, smirking at you.
âi have a boyfriend so uhâŠâ
âawe come one, he doesn't have to know, right?â he chuckled. suddenly, you recognized the man in front of you. this was tsukiâs new teammate, the one you didnât know anything about. he saw you with tsuki before the match, so why would he be asking you out? surely he knew you were his teammate's girlfriend?
âcome on, just your number, yeah?â he persisted. âyouâre allowed to have friends, aren't you?â
you laughed awkwardly, âwell i umâŠâ
âmove.â
your boyfriend's harsh voice saved you from answering. the guyâs head snapped back, towards his teammate who was now towering over him. he suddenly seemed incredibly flustered, as if he hadnât been expecting to be caught.
âoh, sorry man. i was just-â
âhitting on my girlfriend?â
ân-no! we were just talking, right?â he said, directing his question towards you.
tsukishima didnât have to wait for your answer, he knew well enough what this manâs intentions were. âi would suggest you leave her alone, unless youâd like to make this a bigger problem than it has to be.â
the guy hesitated for a second, before he finally spoke. ây-yeah, of course. my bad.â
he scurried away, not without taking a few looks back at you two. your boyfriend scoffed, seemingly angrier and more upset at the situation than you were.
âthat was hot.â
tsukishimaâs widened as he snapped his head towards you and stared as if you were the most insane person heâd ever met.
âexcuse me?â
âyouâre hot when youâre protective,â you giggled. âdo that more often.â
he raised a brow at you. âyouâre crazy.â
âaww, thatâs mean!â you fake pouted. âyou have to make it up to me now.â
he tilted his head quizzically at you, deciding to humor you. âhow?â
you grinned from ear to ear. âletâs go shopping!
noticing the way your eyes sparkled as you suggested that, he couldnât possibly say no.
he rolled his eyes and adjusted his glasses. âfine,â he agreed. âbut weâre eating first. iâm starving.â
â§ïœĄ osamu miya
most of your dates with osamu were indoors, in a private space where the only people around were you two. just relaxing with you is his favorite type of date. still though, he loves to spoil you. so, thatâs exactly what heâs doing today.
ââsamu this is too much,â youâd told him.
ânonsense,â he replied simply. âiâm your boyfriend, therefore itâs my duty to spoil ya, isnât it?â
âbut this,â you said, signaling to the expensive outfit heâd bought you. âthis is too expensive.â
he simply shook his head. âget dressed, yeah? iâm taking ya out.â
all you could do was roll your eyes and try to smother the grin that was threatening to come up.
the outfit heâd bought you was nice, really nice. youâd seen it at a store before, and you couldnât help but think it was incredibly beautiful. heâd noticed, apparently, as heâd bought it without even taking note of the price tag. it was also kind of revealing, but nothing all that scandalous. you felt beautiful, really. you took note to make sure to be extremely grateful to him.
osamu loves cooking for you, he really does. heâs basically become your private chef, which works out since you also adore his cooking. tonight, however, he was temporarily relinquishing his title and taking you to some expensive restaurant. though heâd try to deny it, this was more a treat to him than to you. after all, heâs the one practically drooling as he looks over the menu.
you giggled as you looked at him, quickly scanning over the menu and deciding on what youâd be having.
âhello, are you both ready to order?â
you tilted your head up to look at the waiter, straightening your back as you realized youâd been slouching. âoh, yes, thank you,â you replied, quickly listing off your order, pointing at the items in the menu.
when you turned to look at osamu, he was staring daggers at the waiter. you frowned and kicked his leg under the table. he coughed awkwardly and listed off his order, too.
âwhat was that?â you asked, both concerned but also slightly amused.
âmy order?â
âdonât mess with me, âsamu.â you threatened.
âhe was starinâ at ya.â he answered simply.
âwell. yeah. i was ordering.â
âno, i mean like⊠staring at ya,â he emphasized. osamu sighed, âput this on.âÂ
he took off his jacket and handed it to you. âya can take it off when we leave. or we can ask for a different waiter.â
you scrunched your eyebrows. ââsamu i really donât think-â
âhe was starinâ directly at your tits.â
your eyes widened. âoh!â
âyeah, so unless ya want me to bust open that guyâs head, please wear this for now.â
it was impossible to smother your grin as you put on his jacket. you giggled softly, âyouâre so cute when youâre mad.â
he rolled his eyes lightheartedly, âsure.â
âoookay, here we go,â said the waiter as he returned minutes later. he gave osamu his food wordlessly, maybe too intimidated by the way he was glaring at him, or maybe just because he didnât care.
âand food for the beautiful lady!â he chuckled as he placed your food in front of you. osamuâs jaw tightened. you looked down to your plate awkwardly.
â...thanks,â you said, starting to eat.
the waiter didnât leave. it seemed he was waiting to say something, but didnât. he hesitated, and once it finally seemed as if he was going to get the words out, osamu cleared his throat.
âweâre all done here, no need to linger,â he grumbled.
the man seemed taken aback by osamuâs hostility. you kicked him underneath the table again. âof course. right. iâll be back later with your check.â
osamu hummed in reply. when he turned back to you, he was scowling. his silly face almost made you forget immediately about the awkward interaction that just took place. almost.
âyou looked so mad, âsamu. i almost thought you were gonna walk out of here.â
he looked at you as if you were a lunatic, then turned his gaze towards his food. âno jerk could ever make me waste food.â
you laughed. of course, nothing could ever come between osamu and his love for food. not even an annoying waiter. you suspected that, if an apocalypse ever took place, he would also prioritize his food over anything. except maybe you.
âwhen weâre done we should go get dessert. not here, though. i donât want to see that fucker again.â
all you could do was laugh and roll your eyes at his pettiness.
â§ïœĄ issei matsukawa
matsukawa is an easy going guy. he doesnât lose his temper that easily. he doesnât get mad over silly jokes. he lets maki tease him, doesnât he? he tries his best to keep his composure during games. he even keeps his cool when his little brother is being all pissy. and yeah, he might get pissed at kentaro every once in a while, but who wouldnât, what with that guyâs attitude and all?
that is the mantra he keeps repeating to himself over and over as he watches some jackass try to put the moves on you.
okay, well, that jackass is actually a really good friend of yours.
âŠwhich actually might make it all worse for him.
he canât insult the guy or fight him, heâs your friend after all. at least thatâs what you think. you seem blissfully oblivious to the guyâs painful crush over you.
matsukawa figures he can either break the news to you, or let you remain happily unaware.Â
or better yet, a secret third option!
he can just break the guyâs jaw and make him never bother you again.
actually, that one might be a little extreme.
well, he had to do something. watching that jerk trying to get all touchy touchy with you pissed him the fuck off. even more than kentaroâs snarky comments.
âbabe,â he called.
your head snapped towards him, your mouth immediately twisting into a delighted grin at the sight of him.
âissei!â you exclaimed. âi didnât know youâd be here today. i thought you were hanging out with maki?â
he was, but maki had to leave early for a job interview. the detail didnât matter, though. âoh, i just missed you so much i had to come back to you.â he snaked his arms around your waist, burrowing his head on your neck.
you slightly scrunched your eyebrows at his odd behavior. it wasnât like him to act this way.
âi hope maki isnât upset that you ditched him to hang out with me.â
âoh, not at all! he knows how important it is for guys to hang around their girlfriends.â he said, adding emphasis on the last word as he pulled away from you. he stared down the guy and pushed his shoulders back to appear taller. though itâs not like he needed to, mostly anyone can confirm how intimidating matsukawa can be thanks to his height.
your friend laughed nervously. ây-yeah.â
matsukawa wrapped an arm around your shoulders. âwe should go on a date, then. what do you feel like eating?â
âoh, we were actually just about to go have lunch,â your friend chimed in, his voice suddenly sounding sure of himself.
matsukawa cast a dismissive glare towards him. âwell sheâs my girlfriend, isnât she?â
your friend scoffed, âi donât think-â
âperfect, then!â he interrupted your friend before he could object. âletâs go, babe. we can go to your favorite place. my treat, of course.â
âo-okay?â you replied, confused at the interaction that had just taken place.
you let matsukawa drag you all the way to the parking lot before pulling your arm away.
âwhat the hell was that?â you exclaimed.
âwhat was what?â he said, already seemingly back to his normal attitude.
âyou were so rude to him!â
âi donât think you should be friends with him anymore.â he simply answered, not exactly taking into account your previous comment.
you sputtered before finally saying, âsince when do you have a say in who iâm friends with?â
he cast his gaze on you, soft, despite the current conversation. âi just donât think heâs good company to have around.â
âwhat do you mean?â
he sighed, before finally admitting, âheâs in love with you.â
you blinked repeatedly at him in shock. âhe is?â
âyes, and i donât like that.â
you opened and closed your mouth, unsure on what to say.
âi didnât know.â
âi know.â
both of you stood silently in the parking lot, before he finally gave in and spoke first. âi donât want to control who you are or arenât friends with. itâs not my job,â he sighed and ran his hand through his hair. âbut i donât feel exactly comfortable having you around him, knowing his intentions and all.â
you stared at him before meekly replying, âokay.â
he tilted his head, âokay?â
you nodded. âi understand what you mean. i, uhm⊠iâll have a chat with him, to see if he does have feelings for me. iâll cut him off if he does, because i donât think iâd feel very comfortable around him then either.â
matsukawa nodded too. âalright. letâs go have lunch then. i think the place closes earlier today.â
you paused, âactually⊠can we go to the new place that just opened up nearby instead? iâve been wanting to try it out.â
he laughed, âsure, whatever you say.â
â§ïœĄ satori tendou
parties are fun, arenât they? all the people, blasting music, drinks, and more, make an amazing atmosphere for those who enjoy it. and halloween parties are even better! who doesnât enjoy a fun costume?
tendou canât really say itâs his atmosphere. he also wouldnât say that he fits into the group of people who don't like them. heâs just⊠okay with them. though, for you, heâs more than okay with them.
he let you put him in some cheesy halloween costume. a chef, you told him. you were dressed as some rat, though he thought you looked way too gorgeous to be called that. you had insisted the idea was cute, it was from a movie, after all. and, while he wasnât entirely against the idea to begin with, all your insistence convinced him he had no way out of it either way.
âdonât you like it when i pull on your hair?â you had teased him. âitâs the perfect role for you.â
âand that is why iâm buzzing allllll my hair off.â
âdonât you dare!â
so, here you were. a big halloween party, both of you matching in a coupleâs costume. he looked okay, but you⊠you looked absolutely breathtaking. before you left you had made a comment about being a sexy mouse, chuckling afterwards. a reference, he figured. heâd have to make you watch the movie with him later.
he definitely wasnât the only one who thought you looked amazing. you know, taking into account the guy that was practically hanging onto you for dear life.
immediately, once he noticed that and how uncomfortable you looked, he rushed over to save you.
âohhh, what do we have here?â he asked, trying to keep his tone light to hide his clear annoyance.
âoh, hey dude,â replied the man, having a noticeably slur to his words. âjust tryna convince this babe to give me a little kiss, or come to the bathroom with me for some fun, ya feel me?â the man laughed, the smell of alcohol so strong he bet everyone in the party would have smelled it.Â
tendou narrowed his eyes. âpersonal space sure is a fun thing, huh!â he said as he grabbed the man from his shoulders and tried to get him away from you.
the man pulled away and got closer to you once more, making you scoff in irritation, trying to pull him off once more. âugh, this asshole just grabbed onto me while i was getting a drink!â you complained, turning your attention back to the man. âand i already told you, i have a boyfriend!â
the man faked being upset. âhe doesnât have to know, gorgeous. now stop being a prude bitch and-â
tendouâs fist moved faster than the manâs mouth.
the man stumbled back, caressing his jaw in shock. you scurried far away from him, standing behind tendou, whose fake cheerful attitude was long gone.Â
he turned back to look at you, his face laced with concern.
âiâm fine,â you told him. noticing his doubt, you added, âi promise, okay? iâm fine.â
he nodded, seemingly convinced for now. and turned his attention back to the man.
it was almost like a switch turned on, really. first he was sweet and worried about you, then he returned to his mocking face. you figured it was an act, though. he wasnât the type to get incredibly angry at others. but he messed with you, so tendou would probably murder the guy if he could.
the man spit into the ground and scoffed, âwhat the hell is wrong with you, man?â
âohh, you know, i was just testing my theory on how many hits it would take for a pervert to get knocked out!â he fake-giggled. âdo you want me to keep going?â
the manâs scornful gaze was casted onto tendou, who didnât really seem like he was joking.
âyouâre creepy as fuck man,â coughed the man, âand youâre insane. dunno why sheâd choose you.â
âwell i know why no one chose you,â tendou said, dragging the last word in a mocking way.
âletâs go.â
tendou snapped his head toward you, his wide eyes curious as he tilted his head.
âhuh?â
âiâm tired. i just want to get some sleep,â you said, your voice so quiet you couldâve been an actual mouse. it broke his heart, really. how excited you were for the party, just to have your mood destroyed by some random creep.
he blinked at you, then blinked at the man, before abruptly standing tall. he decided it was best if he let the man be, and put his focus towards bettering your mood. you could watch that movie you referenced before, but youâd have to stop and buy snacks first. no matter, you are in dire need of more snacks in your pantry, so itâd work out.Â
his looming frame towered over you as he replied, already set on his plan, âokay, letâs go!â

TOO SWEET!
SUMMARY: it's halloween, and your plans with your best friend are cut short. arlecchino, your intimidating yet friendly neighbor, asks you for a favor, which eventually leads to a startling confession.
PAIRING: lyney x vampire!fem!reader (can be read as gn tbh)
warnings: fluff/humor, slight angst, blood + blood drinking (vampire core!)
wc: 3.6k
notes: partly bullshittery honestly. also yes this was heavily inspired by 'my babysitter's a vampire' bc i literally love that show with my whole heart and i will forever be angry that it was removed from netflix. this was barely edited so i apologize for any errors đđ
this is my entry for the @/stellaronhvnters halloween event! prompt: vampires!
You cursed, the line going straight to voicemail. Tonight was Halloween, and your best friend, Citlali, wasnât answering her phone.Â
She was shit at answering her phone in general, but tonight was special. Four months ago, the two of you planned what you were going to do on Halloween night, even going as far as to set event reminders on your phones.
First, you were going to go to a haunted amusement park and get scared out of your minds. Then, you were going to go see that new trashy horror movie that was supposedly only good because Fontaineâs biggest star, Furina, was starring as the main character. Finally, you were going to buy fast food and return to your house for a sleepover.Â
Wasnât like you could sleep, anyway.Â
Yet, it seemed as if all your plans were going down the drain, as not only was she not answering her phone, but she was a no-show at the amusement park. You were waiting around for about an hour, but there was no sign of her at all. You debated calling her mom, your finger hovering over the contact.Â
Quickly pocketing your phone and getting back into your car, you decided youâd just go back home and ask her about it tomorrow. To say you were disappointed was an understatement, especially since youâve been looking forward to this night for months.Â
As you pulled into your driveway and angrily exited your car, you saw your neighborâs door slamming shut. You shivered. Your neighbor, Arlecchino, was a scary and intimidating woman with three children around the same age as you. Even though your families were cordial with each other, you never made the move to befriend her kids. You didnât think youâd ever get along anyway, especially since you all had extremely different interests and belonged to different social circles.Â
Before you even had the chance to make it to your front door, she called out to you. You mentally cursed yourself out and turned to face her, greeting her with a shy smile.Â
She returned it with a cordial one of her own.Â
âAre you just coming home from an outing with friends?â She questioned, eyeing the purse hanging from your arm.Â
You let out a heavy sigh. âIâm afraid not. She bailed at the last minute.âÂ
âI see. Iâm sorry to hear that.âÂ
âIt is what it is. Iâll text her in the morning.â You shrugged. âDid you need something?âÂ
Arlecchino, although intimidating, was a lovely person to hold a conversation with. She was a businesswoman after all. Conversing with others was in her job description.Â
Suddenly, you felt hungry. Deciding youâd eat after Arlecchino left, you checked your phone for the time. It was still early enough that the streets would be filled with people, so youâd have to wait another hour or soâ unless you were stealthy, but knowing you and your curse of being a klutz, youâd cause a scene almost immediately.Â
And you couldnât have the entire neighborhood show up at your door with pitchforks, so youâd just have to wait until the crowds dispersed.Â
âYes, actuallyâŠâ The woman in front of you noticed your frantic fidgeting and changed the subject. âAre you alright, (Name)?âÂ
You let out a nervous chuckle. âIâm fine, I just havenât eaten much today, soâŠâÂ
That was a lie. You havenât had your fill in over a week, and your cravings were continuously getting worse. If you waited even a night more, you might just pass out.Â
She hummed in understanding. âI see. Well, I was hoping you were free to watch my darling children tonight,â she said, âClervie and I have dinner plans, and our usual babysitter canceled due to a family emergency. Iâd greatly appreciate it if you could look over them for us while weâre out. Iâll pay you handsomely for your trouble.âÂ
You were more than surprised at her proposal. Any chance to gain easy cash was a welcome one in your book, but you were also confused. Werenât her kids your age? Why was she asking you to babysit them if they could take care of themselves?Â
You knew Freminet was younger than you, and that was understandable if she wanted you to watch him, but Lyney and Lynette too? Werenât they also eighteen like you?Â
Noticing your confused stare, she elaborated. âLyney and Lynette decided to blatantly disobey my rules a few nights ago. As a result, Iâve deemed them unable to watch Freminet on their own. That is why I have asked you to do it instead.âÂ
She sighed, placing a hand to her temple, and you knew that lookâ it was the expression your mother wore every time you did something to piss her off.Â
âSure,â you answered, shrugging, âmy plans were canceled, as you know, so I donât mind.âÂ
She sent you a tight-lipped smile. âYou have my thanks. Thereâs plenty of food in the kitchen, and you can find all our drinks out in the garage. Please, help yourself.â She placed a delicate hand to the small of your back and led you into her house.
Now that you thought about it, youâve never been inside her house before. Maybe you have, once when you were still young, but you didnât recall it. So, in your mind, this was your first time entering the old house you always considered to look like a haunted mansion on the outside.Â
You sent a quick text to Citlali, hoping sheâd answer, though you knew at this point that your night together wouldnât be able to come to fruition.Â
The house was loud as you entered, with Clervie, Arlecchinoâs wife, arguing about something with who you presumed to be Lyney. In the living room, the tv was on, with an old classic horror film playing. Freminet was seated on the couch, his legs crossed, and his eyes glued to the tv screen. Lynette was lying next to him, her feet sitting on his lap and her head dangling over the armrest of the couch as she scrolled through social media on her phone.Â
In another room, you could hear the voices of two more children. Weird, you thought, I thought they only had three kids. As if reading your mind, Arlecchino answered your question.Â
âWeâre housing foster children at the moment. Theyâre sweet children, youâll find them to be cooperative.âÂ
With a nod, you continued following her into the kitchen. There, as you suspected, sat Lyney on one of the barstools, arguing with his mother. Clervie was dressed to the nines in a long, white dress that hugged her curves and had a sweetheart neckline. A necklace with a skull sat around her neck, and her hair was pulled up into an elegant updo.Â
âI told you, this is because you broke me and your Fatherâs trust,â she scolded her son with a pointed look, ânow, we must be going.â She picked up her purse as soon as you entered, and headed straight for your direction.Â
She sent you a smile, and it was then you wondered if she was an angel sent from heaven. She embraced you excitedly, holding you tightly. âYouâve grown so big! Thank you so much for taking these rascals off our hands for us.âÂ
You returned her smile, finding her way easier to talk to than Arlecchino. âOf course, itâs not a problem.âÂ
But there was going to be a problem if you didnât eat soon. The more you dilly-dallied, the more your hunger increased.Â
Clervie thanked you once more, promising to pay you as soon as they returned from their outing. She pressed a quick kiss to Lyneyâs head and bid her farewells to the other children before her and Arlecchino were out the door, leaving you standing idly by yourself and a dumbfounded Lyney.Â
You turned to him, only to see him staring at you wide-eyed and his jaw slack. Lynette (you didnât even know when she appeared) was standing beside her brother, a way calmer expression on her face than her brotherâs. She blinked at you, before waving politely.Â
âWhen Father told us she was going to find a last minute babysitter, you were not what I had in mind.â She told you bluntly.Â
Shrugging, you eyed the bowl of apples on the island and made a beeline for them. âTrust me, I was just as surprised as you. I wasnât expecting to be babysitting tonight, I was supposed to be getting high with my best friend.âÂ
Taking a bite out of the apple, you let out a sigh of relief. This would have to satisfy your hunger for now, just until you could slip away and quickly grab a real bite.Â
Lynette shared a look with her brother. âCitlali, right?âÂ
You nodded. âYeah. Nerdy, know-it-all, has an obsession with the schoolâs lab.âÂ
She hummed. âIâve partnered with her a few times before on a project.âÂ
âYikes, sorry.â You chuckled, knowing how hardcore your best friend could be when it came to projects.Â
âItâs fine. Sheâs cool.â Lynette shrugged halfheartedly and reached for an apple.Â
Lyney, who had been staring at you this whole time as if heâd seen a ghost, finally cleared his throat and brought your attention to him. âSo, uh⊠sorry Father dragged you into this. Itâs our fault youâre here right now.âÂ
Lynette nodded, agreeing with her brother. Truthfully, you were a bit upset you were here instead of in your bedroom watching Coraline or Halloweentown, but you were also glad you didnât have to spend the night alone. Your parents were out, your younger sister was trick-or-treating with her friends in another neighborhood, and your grandparents were on a vacation in Mondstadt.Â
âWe kinda forgot to watch Freminet a few nights ago when Father and Mother were at Heloir and Foltzâs choir concert,â Lyney continued, looking away bashfully, âand when Mother found out, we were in for a stern talking-to.âÂ
Lynette sighed softly. âForgive us. Please.âÂ
You smiled at them. âItâs fine, donât worry about it. I wouldâve had to spend the night alone otherwise.âÂ
Checking your phone, you could feel your hands shake. You needed to eat, or else youâd collapse within the next hour. That, and you had a bad feeling about your best friendâs lack of response to your texts. Usually, she wouldâve responded by now with an explanation, but there was none. She didnât even open your messages.Â
Did she even have her phone on? You checked her location, only to see she was in her house. Odd. She definitely shouldâve responded by now. You were getting a bit worried.Â
âBut uh, I need to go.âÂ
The twins gave you a confused look, and Lyney quickly hurried after you as you bolted for the front door. âWait, wait. Didnât you just sayââÂ
âLook.â You turned to them with an agitated expression. âIâm hungry, and my best friend isnât answering her phone, and Iâm worried something has happened to her. You guys are completely capable of watching your brother on your own. You donât need me.âÂ
Lyney seemed to deflate like a balloon at your words. âBut what about Father? Sheâll be pissed if she finds out you bailedââÂ
âThen Iâll get back before she gets home.â You stated confidently, swinging the front door open.Â
The twins watched you sprint down the driveway and down the road. Lynette turned to her brother. âIdiot. You scared her away.âÂ
âWhat!?â He slammed the front door shut and followed his sister into the kitchen. âHowâd I screw this up??âÂ
âBecause you were gawking at her like sheâs a full course meal,â she picked up her phone and opened a bag of chips, âseriously, you need to get over her and stop drooling. Itâs sad watching you fumble.âÂ
Lyney pouted. âLynetteâŠâÂ
She looked up at him briefly. âIâm just stating a fact. Sheâs way out of your league.âÂ
It was true that Lyney had a big fat crush on you. Ever since you moved in next door when you were children, he has had feelings for you. He was perfectly content to watch you from afar during elementary school and middle school, but ever since your first year of high school, he had enough of that puppy love.Â
He wanted to get closer to you, to befriend you and maybe turn that friendship into something more. Yet, you never acknowledged him. You never even looked his way. It seemed as if he was nothing to you, just another student attending your school. He was jealous the first time you got a boyfriend, and he was devastated when the one time you did talk to him, you completely forgot who he was the next day.Â
Now that you showed up at his house, he had some hope. Hope that heâd finally get to befriend you. But⊠you walked off, and he wasnât sure youâd ever speak to him again. He lost once more.Â
He pouted like a kicked puppy, and Lynette could only ignore his whining for so long. Finally, when she had enough of his self-pitied sighing, she leapt off the barstool and grabbed her jacket. âLetâs go.âÂ
Lyney perked up, raising a brow as Lynette threw his jacket at him and pulled on her sneakers. âWhere are we going?âÂ
âAfter her,â she said as if it was obvious, âduh.âÂ
Lyney shuffled after her, pulling his own shoes on. He tossed a glance towards Freminet, who was too engrossed in the movie he was watching to even notice his siblings getting ready to leave.Â
âBut what about Freminet, Heloir, and Foltz?âÂ
âTheyâre fine. If we left them alone before and they didnât burn the house down, then now shouldnât be a problem either.âÂ
Lyney sighed. He loved his sister, but she was a handful sometimes. Even more so than he was, on occasion. With a small whine, he followed her out the door, shutting it behind him.Â
The streets were mostly empty. You were lucky you left when you did, otherwise no one would be on the streets. You didnât like feeding directly off of someone, but you were left with no choice.Â
The vendor you usually bought from was away on vacation this weekend with his family, so you were unable to get your fill from his wares.Â
He warned you, you thought, he told you weeks ago he wouldnât be here on Hallows Eve. And yet⊠you still forgot.Â
âFeed from an animal.â Your mother told you, but you outright refused.Â
You refused to touch animals. They didnât deserve to be harmed simply cause you needed to feed. When you told your mother that, she didnât understand.Â
âSo youâd rather harm a human?âÂ
You never answered her question, but she already knew the answer, so there was no need.Â
You spotted a man riding his bike and decided he would be your food tonight. Although you hated feeding from men (their blood didnât taste as goodâ in your opinion), youâd rather them than an innocent woman.Â
In an instant, you had him down on the ground, your fangs digging into the side of his neck. You kept one hand over his mouth and the other on his shoulder to keep him from running. He clawed at your hands, leaving scratches that hurt like hell, but you knew theyâd heal up later, so you didnât care.Â
A loud crash startled you, and the now unconscious man was left on the sidewalk. You wiped the blood from your mouth and glanced at him. Heâd live. You only needed a little bit of his blood to satiate you until the vendor returned in two days with a whole monthâs worth of food for you.Â
You eyed the alleyway closest to you with narrowed brows. âWhoâs there? Show yourself.âÂ
Just in case there was a witness, you werenât afraid to also feed from them. You couldnât have the entire city after your head, after all. Imagining your neighbors showing up to your door with pitchforks in their hands did sound a bit amusing. Though, pitchforks were too outdated.Â
Maybe theyâd show up with guns instead, who knows.Â
It was silent as you waited for whoever was behind the dumpster to move. The more you waited, the more impatient you became. Your eye twitched. You took a step forward, ready to go to them yourselves, when two people stepped out from behind the dumpsterâ two familiar people.Â
Your eyes widened. âLyney? Lynette!?â you stared at them in surprise, your jaw falling slack as you tried to string together your own thoughts.Â
Lyney could feel his heart pounding against his chest. There was blood on your lips and around your mouth, shiny and fresh. He could see the body on the ground behind you, and he could spot your fangs protruding from your mouth.Â
Were you⊠a vampire?Â
He had his suspicions when he got a quick glimpse of your fangs an hour ago, but he also didnât want to jump to conclusions so quicklyâ it was Halloween, after all. In the end, his gut feeling was correct, and now he wasnât sure whether he should run for his life or interrogate the hell out of you.Â
What does one do when they find out their neighbor of all people is a vampire? Â
There isnât really a handbook for this stuff. There should be, he thought.Â
Lynette was more composed, but Lyney could tell she also harbored a bit of fear in her heart too. Judging by the way her eyes were blown wide and her shoulders were tense, he could tell she was prepared to book it at a momentâs notice.Â
âI⊠I promise this isnât what it looks likeââÂ
âAre you sure about that!?â Lyney interrupted you, pointing to the unconscious man behind you. âBecause it sure as hell looks like you just drank that manâs blood! Like⊠like a vampire!âÂ
You sighed, cutting to the chase. The clock was ticking and you were tired. âYâknow what? Whatever, it is what it looks like. Iâm a vampire.âÂ
The nonchalance of your words threw the twins for a loop. They sputtered, opening and closing their mouths like fishes out of water. You stared at them, waiting for a whole slew of questions to be thrown your way.Â
They didnât come until a few moments later, and you were glad the silence was finally broken. Any more of that awkward silence and you likely wouldâve cried.Â
âHowâ what!?âÂ
Your stomach rumbled, and you cursed under your breath. How were you still hungry? That manâs blood shouldâve been enough to satiate you. You checked your phone, and to your relief, Citlali finally replied to your worried messages.Â
The contents of her texts made your blood boil. A growl involuntarily escaped your lips and the twins flinched at the sound.Â
âListen,â you spat, pocketing your phone, âIâm hungry and my best friend just texted me saying she got bit by my ex-boyfriend. I donât have time to sit here and explain shit to you!âÂ
Your voice raised each sentence, and your apparent anger was making your hunger worse somehow. âIf you want the full sob story, ask me tomorrow! But tonight is an overall shitty night for me, and all I wanna do is get back to my house, with my stomach full, and go the fuck to bed.âÂ
You turned on your heel, your chest heaving, and began speed walking down the sidewalk back to your house. You tried calling Citlali, but she wasnât answering, and now you were even more furious than before.Â
âWait!â Lyney called out, catching up to you.Â
âI donât have time for this!â You yelled back, about to fly away, but the next words from his mouth startled you into a halt.Â
âY-You can drink from me! As much as you need!âÂ
You kept your back to him, mulling over his pleas in your head. Was he seriously offering himself up on a silver platter?Â
Usually, you were vehemently against drinking blood from anyone unless your vendor was out of stock or like now, on vacation and you couldnât reach him. It went against the promise you made to yourself when you first became a vampireâ when your idiot ex didnât take your feelings into account and turned you without caring about the consequences itâd cause for you.Â
And now he turned Citlali, too, and quite frankly, you felt a little more than just betrayal. First he turned you, and then the person you cared the most about. He really wanted to make your life miserable, didnât he?Â
With a sigh, you turned to face the twins, who were giving each other an uneasy look. Lynette placed a hand on Lyneyâs arm.Â
âAre you sure about this, brother? What if you die?âÂ
âI would never kill someone,â you stated firmly, âI only drink until they go unconscious. I never drink to kill, only to satiate my hunger until my vendor returns to town with his blood supply restocked.âÂ
Lynette was still wary, but she slowly lowered her arm and nodded curtly in understanding.Â
You shifted your gaze to Lyney, who was fidgeting ever so slightly. You could hear his heart hammering against his ribcage and you could sense the fear he was trying so desperately to hide with a neutral expression.Â
âAre you sure, Lyney?â You questioned, raising a brow.Â
He swallowed the lump in his throat. âY-Yes, Iâm sure.â You could hear the obvious stutter in his voice, but you chose not to comment on it.Â
If he was sure, then who were you to refuse free blood?Â
You stepped closer to him, placing a reassuring hand on his arm. âThisâll hurt,â you muttered, watching the way his lip trembled a bit, âthank you.â
Your fangs sank into his neck, and the sweet taste of his blood hit your tongue.
notes: this was supposed to be longer but i got lazy and everything was starting to not make sense so i decided to just cut the rest and stick with this.

Written for @tomtenadia for our Rowaelin secret Santa
Guys⊠I canât believe Iâm saying this but⊠I donât think Iâll be able to update this fic (or any other) until next year đ
Heheheheh Happy New Year yâall!! đ„łâš

Words: 3,2k
TWO MONTHS LATER
Aelin received her last letter from her mother yesterday.
In a week, sheâd be getting on a boat with Aedion and the few guards and servants that followed along by her parentsâ demand.
Weirdly enough, as much as she loved her home, Aelin didnât anticipate this moment as she thought she wouldâit felt like an eternity when she settled on a three-month trip, and now it felt like not enough time.
It hurt to think of the reason why.
Aelin sighed, willing her body to melt on the bath water she heated herself. The taut support she rested on was as comfortable as ever, though Rowanâs body wasnât exactly pillow-like.
He he drew her closer with one arm around her waist, water sloshing around the bathtub. Aelin leaned the back of her head against his shoulder and sighed.
âYouâre worried,â he said. Not a question.
âI think we should join the others soon,â she lied.
There was no such thing as hiding a lover among the Fae. Theyâd never acted on their affections in publicâheâd been flying in and out of her window to avoid the sentries outside her doorâbut every creature with Fae blood in this castle could scent Rowan in Aelin and vice-versa.
âAnd you havenât thought about what I said last night?â
Looks like Rowan had his mind on the same things.
He continued, âYou should stay another season. Whatâs there to do when Orynth gets buried under snow, anyway?â
She chuckled. âIâm a crown princess. I canât disappear for half a year to gorgeous-Fae-prince-land.â
Rowan grunted and wrapped his arms tighter around her waist, his chin on top of her head.
Aelin pointed at their breakfast tray. âWould youâŠ?â
He absentmindedly levitated a croissant from their breakfast tray nearby, and Aelin heated her hand until it was dry to catch it.
She pouted. âThis wasnât the one I wanted.â
He chuckled, already knowing what she meant. Aelin heated the croissant for him and dried his fingers when he extended his hand.
Rowan wasnât a pastry devotee like Aelin, but he always appreciated the food she handed him.
Once the simplest of croissants had a proper owner, Aelin demanded the croissant she was meant to haveâone of the few stuffed with chocolate hazelnut ones.
âAny plans for the day?â she asked.
âFenrys requested my company today.â
âOh?â Aelin twisted her body to face him as much as she could. âWhat are you two up to?â
The stillness of her heartbeat was as far as sheâd let her apprehension go. Aelin liked Fenrys, but he was a known rake and a wild card. Rowan had never came back with someone elseâs scent, and they havenât discussed the nature of their relationship, butâ
âButâ nothing. They havenât discussed it, and they wouldnât now, one week before she parted.
Two months ago, having any claim on Rowan was the last thing she wanted.
But two months is quite some time, isnât it?
âI didnât ask,â Rowan replied. âHeâd convince me to go either way, and I donât wanna torture myself with the knowledge beforehand.â
Aelin nodded. She leaned her body on his further and toyed with his fingers. Slid her thumb along the palm of her hand.
Would she ever feel ready to test if they were carranam? Because they were certainly something, and Aelinâs mind was endlessly wavering, torn between both options.
It certainly wasnât both. The likelihood of having one of these bonds was incredibly lowâboth, between the same creatures, with one of them being demi-Fae was downright impossible. No sane Fae would consider such a thing.
Rowan kissed the crown of her head. âIâve lost you to your thoughts again.â
âDo you still think weâre mated?â
Rowan tensed. He placed his hands on Aelinâs shoulders, both in a soothing motion, and said in a too-quiet voice, âI think weâre whatever we want to be.â
A far cry from the prince who walked into that library demanding to get to know better his âmateâ.
His reply was no answer at all, yet all the answer she needed.
ËË
âDo you think itâs too much?â Aelin asked, biting her nail.
âI absolutely think itâs too much,â Aedion replied.
Aelin sighed. âYou werenât supposed to be this honest.â
At her antechamber, the two cousins stared at the table that laid all the gifts she bought for the cook: a knife made of ungodly expensive steel thatâs allegedly unbreakable and always sharp, a chest of rare ingredients and herbs, and spidersilk gloves so she never injures her hands at work. Along with a note thanking her for the cooking.
And a request for a couple of his recipes, such as the hazelnut tarts sheâd eaten every day.
Aedion shook his head. âYou shouldâve known better after Eyllwe.â
That cook from Eyllweâs castle. The only one Aelin could never get a recipe from, no matter how many lavish gifts she showered him with. He said he wouldnât give the fruit loaf recipe so Aelin would visit more often, but she knew it was because heâs stingyâhis tactic worked either way.
âWhat else do we need to sort out before we leave?â Aelin asked mostly out of curiosity for Aedionâs plans. With one exception, everything she needed was at least half-ready.
âI need to visit my motherâs grave one last time, and Iâm still wondering if I should bring Rhoe a bottle of that Fae scotch.â
âOh, gods.â Aelin shook her head. What a terrible idea. âDad canât handle scotch for humans. Mom will kill youâyou know she will.â
Aedionâs smirk was fiendish before he let it go and said, âWhat about you?â
âIâve got everything sorted out. Except maybe for the cookâs gift, and Iâm still wondering if I should see the healer before departing.â
He frowned. âAre you unwell?â
âHow much do you want to hear about the malfunction on my lady parts?â
His face twisted into the most tortured grimace. âNone, please. Iâll get the healer before you delay it further.â
Forever the mother hen, her cousin left to send for the healer before she could protest and say it wasnât that much of a big deal.
Aelinâs monthly cycle was supposed to come days ago. It had gotten irregular in the past out of stress or overexertionâit wouldnât be a surprise if it happened again, but it was better to have it checked now that she was spending the next few weeks on a boat.
âThe steward is summoning her,â Aedion said as he re-entered her antechamber and closed the door. âNow tell me, what are you doing about Prince Rowan?â
âWhat about him?â Aelin frowned. As close as they were, they never meddled in each otherâs affairs like this.
âI donât know. You smell different.â
âDifferent?â
âStop doing that.â
âStop what?â
âStop repeating my questions with a question.â
âIâm doing that because Iâm confused! Rowan and I are companions in merriment, not matrimonyâmy departure wonât hurt his feelings.â Though Aelin couldnât say the same about herself. âAnd how can someone smell different?â
âI donât know. You smell different, and I donât know what that isâIâve never smelled it before, but itâs similar to how Rowan smells.â
âHe asked me to stay here another season.â
Aedionâs brows shot up.
âI know,â she said. âI thought of inviting him to Terrasen since he has a whole season to spare, but can you imagine the scandal? Me coming back with a Doranellian loverâgods.â Aelin threw herself on the divan. âAnd Iâd do it, but for what end? Iâd buy this endless fight with my parents and the council for a match that wonât even last.â
Aedion sat on the armchair before her, seemingly thinking hard on the subject. âDidnât he practically demand to marry you or something? Doranelle could be a powerful ally if Queen Sellene and your dad are willing to mend that bridge and find some common ground.â
âRowan wants the stars to align into an arrow shape and point at someone for him to love, not a regular wife.â
Besides, did she want to marry Rowan? Aelin hadnât even considered it could get that far.
âHe wants a mate, you mean?â
âExactly. That was his premise when he suggested we would eventually marry, and if he hasnât married in the last three hundred or so years, I doubt heâll want a wife now.â
If Sellene was anything like Maeve, sheâd hand Rowan on a silver platter for a chance to get closer to Aelin. But as someone whoâs dreaded a political marriage her entire life, Aelin didnât want it like this. Not for Rowan.
âWell, cousin.â Aedion reached for a cigar and wiggled it between his fingers so Aelin could light it for him. âAfter a through assessment, itâs safe to say that youâre fucked.â
Aelin had as long as a deep breath to take in the amount of shit she was in before the healer knocked on her door.
âDonât leave,â she told Aedion on her way to the door. âIf I had to sit through this, you have to tell me about Fenrys as well.â
âItâs an uncommitted affair with sporadic encounters,â her cousin said, pink tinging his cheeks.
Aelin chuckled and opened her door to greet the healer holding a small case, and gestured for the female to follow her into a more private roomâone Aedion wouldnât listen even if he wanted to.
When they were settled and Aelin explained her what happened, she showed the healer the little calendar she tracked her monthly cycles in and the questions started.
Yes, sheâs had irregular cycles before, though it was unusual.
Yes, sheâs feeling stressed out.
No, she hadnât gained or lost weight recently.
Yes, she was sexually active.
The healer pointed to the bed and said, âIf Your Highness doesnât mind.â
After Aelin laid down for a proper examination, the femaleâs hands hovered over Aelinâs body to assess it, and touched it a moment or two. When it landed on her lower stomach, the healer said, âI think I know whatâs going on.â Her face remained impassive throughout the rest of her examination. Soon enough, she told Aelin to sit back at her armchair.
âYour Highness, youâre with child.â
The entire world spun.
Aelinâs with what?
âYou meanâŠâ Aelin trailed and pointed at her belly. âLittle heir?â
âExactly.â The female sent her a warm smile. âOnly healing magic can detect it so far, but the baby will develop its scent and blend into yours soon enough.â
âHow soon?â
âAny time now.â
Aelin nodded, her mind blank.
âYour body seems to be healthy enough for childbearing, but you shouldâŠâ
The healer went on with a million recommendations about her expecting, plus lists of foods, herbs and tonics to use so the baby grows properly. Good thing she was writing it down, because Aelin was barely listening.
She was having a baby.
One that might have turquoise or green eyes and fire or wind magic and a human or hawk animal form.
One that will either reunite two opposing kingdoms or initiate a war between them.
Holy rutting Mala. She was so screwed.
The healer cleared her throat, and thatâs when Aelin realized she was gawking at a blank point rather than pretending to be attention.
âYour Highness, if you donât mind me sayingâŠâ
âPlease, go ahead.â
The healer set aside the list of recommendations to say, âFae children are rare, even more so when one or both of the parents is full-blooded. In my hundreds of years working as a healer, Iâve never seen the Fae reject their offspring the same way humans doâbabies are often cherished despite the circunstancies in which they were born.â
The healer was engaged with castle gossip, then.
âYou seeâŠâ Aelin leaned forward, eyes intent on the healerâs. âIt is of our best interest that your knowledge of my condition stays confidential. Iâm sure I can compensate you for the good workâand discretion.â
ËË
Aedion was still on her antechamber when Aelin walked the healer out.
âHow was it?â
Aelin blinked. Gods, how was it? âIâmâŠâ Aelin trailed, struggling to find her words in this dazzling state. âBaby.â
Aedionâs full body stiffened. âYouâre loud like one, yes. Now be serious.â
âYou knowâŠâ Aelin frowned at her stomach. âShe said Iâm with child.â
He was in front of her as quick as his Fae speed could muster, sniffing her harder than a dog does to a new acquaintance.
âYou donât smell like it.â
âItâs too soon to scent it. I wouldnât have known without a magical healer.â
Aedion paced. And paced. And paced. So much he wouldâve cut a hole into the floor were his shoes sharp.
âDid you bribe her?â he asked.
âYes. Itâs concerning how that was my first instinct once she gave me the news.â
Castle gossipâAelin had mastered the art of controlling what was said about her as much as possible.
âWe must leaveâimmediately.â
âI agree.â She needed the familyâs trusted healer to oversee this bearing and, all of a sudden, Aelinâs chest ached for her mother. âRowan and Fenrys must be arriving back at the castle soon. As soon as I tell himââ
âNo!â Aedion interrupted. He placed both arms on Aelinâs shoulders so she could sit on an armchair, then kneeled before her and said, âI admire you so much for wanting to do the right thing, but thatâs too dangerous. Youâre carrying a Whitethorn. Doranelle finally has a claim on you.â
Aelin nodded. He was right. This was the fulfillment of Queen Maeveâs dreams, and they didnât know Queen Sellene enough to risk it.
âAelin, weâre alone in a foreign land that neighbors Doranelle. Weâre closer to their army than ours. Youâre in a vulnerable position.â He held her face with both hands, maintaining strong eye contact as he said, âWe need to go home. Weâll need an entire team to come up with a proper agreement between kingdoms, andâŠâ Aedion swallowed. âWe may or may not need an army.â
ËË
It was the second time Aelin tried to get on a damned ship.
The salt air reeked of fish, and that alone was enough to make her queasy.
When Aelin first got on the ship yesterday, she retched her guts out before it even departedâwhich she was glad for, because they got to leave before being trapped in that vomit-inducing monstrosity for weeks.
After that, they stayed in an inn overnight and Aedion bought a monthâs worth of everything anti-nausea that healerâMala bless herâwrote down, and a few things more.
Now, Aelin was safely tucked into her room in the ship, near the stern where the motion of the sea is less noticeable. Even with the thick wood between her and the harbor, she could still make out the sound of the gullsâ cries, slap of water against the shore and people calling to one another all added to the mayhem that was Vareseâs harbor. Sheâd be watching it, but her window faced the sea, and Aelin wasnât in a lively mood today.
She missed Rowan.
It was true that carrying a child left mothers-to-be moody, but itâd be unfair to blame it for the full extent of her feelingsâshe blamed Rowan as well.
Rowan and his dry humor and hard muscles that felt soft when cuddlingâevery time her chest ached with longing for him, it was absolutely his fault.
The only thing Aelin didnât blame him for entirely was for his seed taking root inside of her. After her mother spent her entire fertile life trying to conceive and ended up with only one child, Aelin vowed to never take a contraceptive tonicâfacing the judgement of bearing a child out of marriage was better than leaving Terrasen without an heir.
And that reminder only made her more eager to go home. The lords will be livid that a decision about Aelinâs own body escaped their control, but that might be overshadowed by the fact that theyâll be dealing with Doranelle soon.
It would be chaos in every scenario Aelin tried to predict, and she just wanted it to be over with.
Aelin got up and met the sentries outside her doorâone of her fatherâs requirements for her trip.
Gods, her dad will be so proud when he gets to see what she can do with her flames now.
The thought made her think of Rowan again. She was doomed.
The sentries jumped, wide-eyed when she opened her door.
âWhy is it taking us so long to leave?â
One of the males glanced at the narrow hallway before he said, âThereâs an issue with a stowaway. Word is that heâs been raising hell in other ships too.â
Aelin frowned. âSo heâs a bandit?â
He shrugged. âThatâs all I know. Weâre under strict orders that no one other than Prince Aedion should get in or out of your room for now.â
She closed the door, laid back on the bed and grabbed a book. There were plenty of people outside dealing with the bandit, and Aelin couldnât put Terrasenâs heir at risk by engaging in fights she could avoid.
She didnât think Aedion would find a ship with a room this nice at the last minute, but Aelin was grateful for itâif she was going to be miserable, she might as well be doing it in a comfortable, spacious room.
For a moment, Aelin heard shouting outside. She straightened herself into a seating position at the bed and willed her flames to stay ready to attack. It was gone soon.
They mustâve caught himâAelinâs side of the ship was filled with guards.
She focused back on her book and throughly judged the fictional princessâ choices. Gods, who wrote this thing?
A loud crack stole her attention as the glass from her window shattered under the windâs strength.
That wind she knew too well.
Aelinâs entire body tensed. As she got up, a hawk flew past her broken window and into her room.
He shifted into his Fae form at the same time the guards burst into her room.
âYour Highness, are youâTHE BANDIT!â
Aelin grew a wall of flame between them and the guards before another fight could ensue.
âThatâs not a bandit,â she shouted, âthatâs Prince Rowan of Doranelle!â
To be fair, he didnât look princely at all. With clothes torn at the seams and a frazzled expression of somber eyes and disheveled hair, Rowan looked like a tramp or a drunk rather than a prince.
Aelin shooed away the guards before she could fully focus on him, but Rowan had barely noticed them, holding her closer without caring about their privacy.
âHow dare you,â he murmured against her head. âHow dare you leave town with just a goodbye letter thanking me for the orgasms.â
In that moment, all Aelin knew was the swell of warmth she felt on her chest when he was nearâif she had any problems before this moment, it was lost to her.
She chuckled and nipped his chin. âYou knew Iâd be leaving either way.â
âAnd you should grant a male his time to fix that.â Rowan kissed her cheek, jaw, nipped her neck. âHow are youââ
Rowan sniffed along her neck and froze. All warmth was gone when he took a step back from her.
Nothing couldâve prepared her for the betrayed look in her loverâs eyes.

Hello! I love your writing style!! It's just so on spot, and I wanted to request some headcanons for the mercs with a gn! reader who doesn't really speak but they can communicate through sign language or paper for whatever reason, the thing is, the Merc and the reader find themselves in a really critical situation or just an incredibly intimate and comforting moment, blurting out for the first time something serious or stupid like "y'know when I first met you I thought you're really stupid...(affectionate)" IDK OF THIS MAKES SENSE OR IT'S WEIRD SORRY LMAOOA
(if you don't wanna do all of them you could do your faves & I hope there's a chance to add miss Pauling if possibleđ) but anyway, too much to read,, sorry again!! Take careâĄâĄ
Y/N with communication anxiety admits their feelings to the Mercs
Scout:
- Heâs very chill and nonchalant about it. Although have fun hearing him talk his mouth off all the time and rant about random things. He takes a liking to you pretty quickly when you join his team and leans on the wall next to you tossing his ball from hand to hand and blowing bubbles with his bubblegum. âHeeey there slugger. Whatâs your name? You look like a total nightmare today.â He says. When you donât answer him and nervously gesture to your throat that youâd prefer staying quiet he pauses for a moment. âNot a talker, eh?â
- Literally will not shut the fuck up. Will talk to you for hours on end. Venting or just saying plain stupid shit to impress you. You find his personality rather charming and in exchange he seems to appreciate your content silence and preference to listen to him. Something that the other Mercs donât really do.
- âYâknow, Y/N. I know this sounds fuckinâ weird but likeâ Thank you I guess? For listening to my nonstop ramblin. I mean.. Not many people stop to consider what I have to say.â He says this to you while you sit in Tuefortâs gazebo with him on a cold desert morning. âThey just think iâm annoying I guess..â
- âAnnoying yet charming and handsome nonetheless, Scout.â You finally work up the courage to mutter to him. Your voice is rasp and you smile.
- Scout pauses, then looks at you in complete disbelief. Did Y/N just speak? Atop of that it seemed to have been a flirtatious compliment. He takes a moment to process the situation and then sort of chortles. He runs his hand through his own hair and acts chill about it but on the inside heâs absolutely mad with feelings. âWow.. Thatâs.. Yeah, OK.â he says, failing to find words. Face flushed with heat.
ââââââââââââââââââââââ
Soldier:
- He was the first person to approach you in the base. Like ever. When he found out there was a new mercenary he needed to lay the ground rules to them as soon as possible. Instead of giving him a âYes sir!â like he had hoped, you stared at him blankly. (Iâd probably be rethinking this job offer.) Wondering why you hadnât spoken up to him, he got close to your face and looked up and down you. âIâD LIKE TO HEAR A YES SIR PRIVATE!â Still nothing. You were too busy admiring his muscles. Youâve just met this man but youâd let him throw you off a bridge in an instant.
- When he still doesnât get a response, he backs up and angrily fixes his helmet âInsubordination I see.. Heh. Okay.â He mutters and prepares to plan a punishment later. You are oddly charmed by his stupid greeting and you head to the nearest chalkboard and explain in writing why you canât respond back. He lifts his helmet up to read it and then looks back at you. (The other Mercs are kind of stunned that Soldier even knows how to read in the first place.)
- âAh, I see.. Strange tactical decision but not unheard of.â He responds, then straightens his posture apologetically. You two become close friends from then on. Medic has to explain to him later that you just have âmildâ communication issues. For the first few months of your guysâ friendship the dumbass thought you were doing this to gain an upper hand.
- After a match one day you catch him smoking a cigar on a huge pile of bodies in the pouring rain. You step up the horrific mess of blood and guts to meet him. He doesnât look too happy. Although Soldier never really opens up about anything to anyone. Heâs way too deep in his little military fantasy. You sit next to him and put a hand on his shoulder reassuringly. Whatever the hell he was upset about you knew it wasnât good. After a bout of silence you whisper âYouâre a wonderful strategist, Soldier.â
- You canât see his expression underneath his helmet but you can certainly hear his heartbeat quicken because of how close you are. His mouth nearly twitches up into a grin. He doesnât respond to your compliment but heâs relieved to hear one nonetheless after all this time.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ-
Demoman:
- You find him making bombs in his quarters when you meet him for the first time. He doesnât look too friendly but as you decide to walk by he immediately calls out to you. âAyeee! New blood. Get ovaâ here a second. Wee lil monster.â He beckons his hand aggressively.
- You walk over to him and he puts an arm around your shoulder. Patting you reassuringly. âAye.. So Itâs not gonna be easy livinâ here just so you know. Weâre all a wee bit mad. Donât take the othersâ too seriously when dey bother ye.â He takes the responsibility upon himself to let you know as an older Merc itâll be okay. He slaps you friendlily on the back after his conversation and sends you off. He doesnât really question the fact you arenât speaking.
- You immediately take a liking to him though. Mainly due to his explosive personality on the battlefield (pun intended.) He gets horribly drunk before doing any Mercenary work and acts goofy the entire time. His charisma pulls you in like a magnet. You want to speak to him but itâs so hardâŠ
- After months of simping for this guy from afar, you slip a note under his doorframe professing your feelings to him. You hear him pick it up. The next thing you know, he barges into your quarters the next day after a match and grabs you by the shoulders. Asking you in complete disbelief if you actually meant everything you said.
- âYes, I just think youâre really attractive!â you blurt out instinctively. Alarmed by his behavior. He lets you go; having heard your voice for the first time. The shock of the revelation and the sound of your voice, atop of the alcohol seemed to have done it for him. He immediately kissed you on the lips without warning. Youâre the first person in years to say this to him.
- âI⊠Er.. â He walks away after that. You have no fucking idea what the hell even happened.
ââââââââââââââââââââââ-
Engineer:
- You hear the sweet melody of a guitar echoing off the intel room. Despite its clearly southern origins you are drawn to it. As if it was some sort of hypnosis. Youâd recognize that melody anywhere. The year was 1967 and you were no stranger to your own childhood. That was clearly âEl Paso.â Youâve heard that song on the radio a million times already. But somehow this was different. The soothing voice it came from was singing it as if it were his own lullaby to the multiple sentries around him. The ones of his own creation of course.
- Next thing you know, youâre sitting next to him on the intel desk, sleepy as all shit from the melody and the white noise from the patrolling sentries. You wake up an hour later to embarrassingly finding yourself on this strangerâs lap. You want to profusely apologize to your colleague but nothing comes out.
- He doesnât even seem phased. For some reason he was stroking your hair as he gazed off into the distance.
- Ever since that day you became close to Engineer. He was completely unbothered by your communication issues and actually kind of appreciates the silent times he has with you. He rarely speaks to you while hanging out either, out of respect for your boundaries. Only the occasional conversation here and there. You are both existing together.
- âI love you, Dell.â You finally say, after a night of drinking in his workshop with him. You are perched up on his lap as always and heâs petting you. At first he misunderstands this as platonic. âAww..â He cooes. âNo, I mean it. Iâve always found you so ââ You bury your face into his chest. Muffling the last part of your sentence âSafe to be around.â
- Heâs unbelievably boiling with hormones on the inside. He tips his hardhat forward to hide his flustered face. Holding his own chin. âDammit..â He mutters in an incredibly positive way. Youâve successfully won this man over.
âââââââââââââââââââââ-
Heavy:
- Heâs already met you before the job. Accidentally caught you in a coffee shop in Tuefort being yelled at by an ableist Karen and he took it upon himself to nearly strangle her for you. Heavy doesnât tolerate behavior like that. You need to insult people with style or nothing at all. Donât pick on their disabilities. Aim for the most stereotypical high school bully route possible. Come on, you gotta be an asshole skillfully.
- He could tell you were different the moment you joined the team. But thatâs fine. He was quite misunderstood too. Heavy wasnât a dumb himbo. He was a GIANT man with a lust for blood. Although he enjoyed chaos as much as any Merc, Heavy also valued silence. Something that you provided him with your presence. You catch him deliberately body shielding you on the battlefield because he knows this communication issue didnât come out of nowhere. Youâre distressed. This was his subtle attempt to let you know he cared.
- He catches you unable to sleep one night. He opens your door and notes the fact your light was still visible through the cracks. Youâre sitting on the bed in an uncomfortable fetal position.
- âLittle thing will not sleep?â He asks you. Although he has his typical hardened expression the question suggested he cared. âHm. Stay here. Heavy will grab bedtime story.â
- He reads you an old Russian classic. Although depending on who you are you might not understand it. Regardless the soft sounds are alluring sleep. Itâs clear heâs read people stories many times before because his whispers hit all the right places.
- You mumble to him a thank you. Which makes him pause mid sentence. He doesnât know how the ever living fuck to process what heâs feeling right now. Itâs a mixture of affection and the pang of what is typically the start of romantic attraction. Ew gross heâs feeling soft and fuzzy emotions.
- You pull him under the covers with you eagerly. He grumpily obeys but he doesnât know why. He nearly destroys your bed with his weight and has to put you on his chest to cuddle. You can hear the sound of the ubercharged baboon heart inside him. Still pumping away and working to keep him going. You slip into slumber easily.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Pyro:
- Talking is overrated anyway. Nobody really understands Pyro when they speak under the mask. Trying to say something simple like âThereâs a spy behind you.â is often met with a confused expression. When Pyro meets you, itâs when heâs allured by your skills on the battlefield. In their point of view you are a glorious unicorn prancing around a field of pollen. (More like debris from the enemy soldiersâ rockets but thatâs besides the point.)
- There are rare moments where Pyro is completely lucid and self aware of the fact theyâre a mercenary for hire though. They compliment you on your abilities after a match and it takes you a while to understand but you nod.
- They wonât. stop. complimenting. you. You are dragged to his tea parties and childish shenanigans and you find over time itâs surprisingly pleasant to escape from the bloodshed once and a while. Cuddling sessions ensue as time goes on.
- You catch their face without their suit while theyâre getting changed. That is vulnerability that Pyro wasnât ready for yet. They break down sobbing and self depreciating and you feel heartbroken. Who the hell taught them to hate themselves so fucking much? Youâre having a bit of empathy overload right now as they squeal and choke up. Finding no other alternative but to speak blissful things about their appearance and personality. Hearing you speak for the first time makes them cry more. (In an incredibly positive way luckily.)
âââââââââââââââââââââââ
Sniper:
- Oh shit. Another person whose super quiet for some reason?! Except your situation is different. Youâd like to socialize but itâs difficult. Sniper doesnât want to socialize and he hates basically everybody. But he has that âgrumpy older brother who teases youâ energy. Heâs well aware youâre younger than the other Mercs and therefore a tad easier on you.
- Heâs scoping out a crack in the window when he feels your presence behind him. His shoulders stiffen and thatâs how you know he senses you. âBlimey. Youâd make a terrible Spy.â he mutters. Bringing his gun away from the hole to put it down and face you. His hypersensitivity to noise is no doubt from being stabbed a million times.
- You wonder how heâs able to tell itâs even you in the first place. Heâs possibly grown accustomed to how each Mercenary sounds when they approach his nest. You can smell the scent of strong cologne mixed in with bond fire lingering off him. Couple that with the fact that heâs so unbelievably hot? You came to bring him some morning coffee but you end up setting it down to spontaneously hug him.
- âWhâ fuck.â He growls. Both caught off guard and swaying a bit. Trying to adjust to extra weight. He hesitantly hugs you back. Wondering if you were sick or something and needed soothing. He doesnât understand why anybody would want this from him. It takes him a minute to put his arms around you and pat you.
- âWhatâs wrong mate?â he says, in your ear. This man might be giving you a voice kink if you donât already have one. Holy shit. You donât want to be humiliated by your own voice in front of him and your lips quiver. Incapable of finding the words youâre thinking of. âYouâre cute.â you finally say. In a last ditch effort when no other words came to mind. To say you desperately wanted this man was an understatement.
- You hear him take a sharp breath in. He stifles a groan from the amount of energy you just shot into his godamn stomach. Not only was it a pleasure to hear your voice for the first time but it felt intimate. He was very sensitive to things like this. You swore you could hear this man purring in your ear like a cat. He was evidentially as touch starved as you were.
âââââââââââââââââââââ
Medic:
- No speaking?! Oh! this man has to study you like right fucking now. What a curiosity. Heâs never met somebody who had issues speaking like this before. He hates to admit âand wonât admit for that matter â that he might be doing this out of emotion as well. Believe it or not Medic can be an incredibly emotion driven person. Not just for the pleasures of harming people but the unwanted sympathy that comes with being human. He hates the idea he might care for you. Why does he even feel that way? Itâs not like youâre different from any other Merc..
- Except you are. Youâre you. Thatâs the problem. Youâre lovable in every way and no amount of rumination will ever explain why.
- His first instinct upon discovering this about you is to ask you questions about how bad it is. Obviously quickly realizing how stupid that is â he hands you his clipboard and a fresh piece of paper to communicate. âDo you speak if at all?â âDo you experience this in the presence of certain stressors?â âDid you have traumatic experiences that led to this?â âIs this perhaps a case of selective mutism?â
- You scramble to write down incredibly passive aggressive and sarcastic answers but they are answers nonetheless. He seems pleased with the results. Under normal circumstances youâd hate being treated like a guinea pig but his excited smile was charming. The fact that somebody wanted to understand your situation so badly was a bit riveting. He was hungry for information about the human existence. âDanke!â
- You catch something youâd never suspect in a mad scientist such as himself. While heâs drawing mathematical equations on his chalkboard one night he periodically looks over his shoulder to frown at you while he thinks youâre not paying attention.
- Heâs doing a terrible job at hiding his human nature. There was a bout of emotion in his eyes about your health. As much as the doctor tried to remove this from his work, it kept rearing its ugly head in certain situations. âI love you, Doctor.â You tell him.
- SNAP. His fingers break the chalk in half. Just like his crumbling facade. You could see his eye twitch as he accesses ten thousand possible answers he could give you in his mind. âAheh, could you give me a moment, bitte?â He tells you. Waltzing into the other room. You could hear muffled screaming coming from his bedroom. He regrets taking this job and wished he died in police custody.
âââââââââââââââââââââââ-
Spy:
- YES! FINALLY SOMEONE WHO DOESNâT MAKE HIM WANT TO PULL HIS HAIR OUT AND BACKFLIP OFF A CLIFF
- Spy elegantly invites you to his quarters one night after weeks of avoiding you the first time you come here. He pours you some wine and hands you a glass. (adjusting your hand in the process because youâre holding the glass wrong.)
- âDo you know why I brought you here?â He asks. Pacing around the room and lighting himself a cigarette from his disguise kit. In all honesty you have no idea why but the sight of such a handsome older man doing this for you was distracting. âIt is your performance as of late. You are throughly calculated I must say.â You couldnât agree with this, but you wondered if he had some sort of thing for competent people. (Your assumptions are correct.)
- âŠ. âNot to mention quieter than me when I scope out prey.â He mentions. Waving the cigarette between two fingers. He was a Spy and you had no doubt he was trying to read you like a book but having difficulties. He was especially accustomed to having small talk with the other Mercs to better fake their counterparts when disguised as them. You couldnât help but feel a little flattered over the fact that not even a Spy could properly look through you.
- He looked at you rather frustratingly once he realizes youâre still not speaking. âNot even the slightest bit of speaking. Do you realize how much harder you make my job?â He complains sarcastically. You canât help but crack a humored grin at this. He isnât being ableist in this situation, rather heâs angry he canât psychoanalyze somebody. You knew it was withinâ a Spyâs nature to instinctively do this.
- He responded positively to your grin. Moving away and dragging his cigarette. Trying to hide a bit of his own amusement. âYes, yes. You find my suffering to be equivalent to the entire circus.â He says. âBut in in all honesty your silence is preferred.â Spy moves in and lifts your chin up with his pointer finger.
- âTu es agrĂ©able Ă cĂŽtoyer..â He hisses. His voice sounding like a hungry cat as he draws closer to you. Spy has a very distinct look in his eye. One that basically screams thoughtful and mysterious. You nearly passed out at the unintentionally romantic gesture.
- âPlease throw me off a fucking building.â You say.
- âWhat?â

OKOK this took me a lot of courage to request tbh since like idk it just seems embarrassing, anyways could you maybe do an Aizetsu x reader who looks very intimidating but is actually a big softieđ? Also I genuinely donât mind if you donât do this and ik you have a lot of requests now and with school coming up and etc so make sure to take some breaks đżđż
it is not embarrassing! this idea is so cute! and thank you for being so considerate đ i start school in a few days and my life is usually busy so iâll try to do all the requests i can. and i didnât know if u wanted it modern, demon verse or whtv so i just chose modern if you donât mind. i also rushed to do this bc iâm so busy.
Aizetsu was terrified of you when you first came to his class.
You were incredibly intimidating and you scared him!
Heâs 6â4 and built and yet he is scared of you! Itâs actually common for him to be scared of people. But you had him shaking in his boots.
Whenever you were assigned to sit next to HIM, oh boy. He was petrified and wanted to hide from you.
You sat down next to him. You didnât really talk. You were shy, especially with going to a new school. Aizetsu had been fumbling with his necklaces and earrings, anything he could readjust and make himself look more presentable to you.
But you ended up talking to him because you guys had to be partners for a project.
Aizetsu realized that you were so terrifying sweet.
You always gave him praise.
âGood job, Aizetsu.â âWow, youâre incredibly smart.â âYou look amazing today, Aizetsu.â âOh! You like bunnies? Me too. I wish I could see your pet bunny!â âGosh, your eyes are gorgeous today.â âBut then again, they already are gorgeous.â
What he didnât realize is that you were flirting with him a bit. You realized that Aizetsu SUCKS at picking up hints.
Like you want to go out with him. Heâs gorgeous. Heâs quiet, gorgeous, tall, tan, blue eyes, his hair is GORGEOUS, everything about him is perfect. And you want him! And you get what you want!
You just had to plan it perfectly.
.
.
.
You started giving gifts to him. At firstâŠAizetsu thought you were trying to kill him or like bribe him into doing something for youâŠ
He still thinks this whenever you give him gifts.
Then you started complimenting him. Now Aizetsu definitely thinks you are trying to bribe him. Youâre way too intimidating to actually like him! Right?
You started to scare him even more though thatâs not what you were trying to do.
Eventually you just gave him a note because your attempts sucked! And he refused to believe that you actually liked him he just couldnât tell.
So you told him to meet you under the cherry blossom tree giving yandere simulator.
.
.
.
Aizetsu thought you were going to put him up. He legitimately had prepared himself to get beat up.
What he didnât expect was you to shove flowers in his face. Aizetsu was incredibly surprised.
âU-UhmâŠ(Y/N)? Whatâs this?â
You were all shy now, fumbling with anything you could.
âFlowersâŠFor you.â
Aizetsu was so surprised. He didnât mean to accidentally shed a few tears but he did.
âListen, I like you so much, Aizetsu. I tried to praise you, compliment you, give you gifts. I enjoy your presence and everything. I want to be with you. Show you how love feels. I know that you havenât had a good life, Iâve heard from people. I want to make you feel loved and I want to spoil you with affection and anything you want. So please, Aizetsu, go out with me!â
Oh jeez. Your whole face was redder than Sekidoâs eyes. You were flustered. Scared. Until Aizetsu hugged you so tightly, wetting your shoulder with his tears.
âOf course, (Y/N)! Iâm so dense! Iâm so sorry! Iâm so so so so sorry!â He sobs into your shoulder, âOf course, Iâll go out with you!â
I think we all know what happened later.
You took him on a nice and romantic date! Duh! Karaku was so jealous!

Okay. So. Hi. Iâm your host who is rethinking life??? Or just thinking a lot right now, my brain got so much information. I wouldâve posted sooner but I needed a couple hours to get my bearings yall âčïžââïž anyways! The final 4 episodes of TMA s2!!!
Iâm not gonna do my usual format but to start with: I knew Elias was a bastard. I knew it, I CALLED IT. I mean it was pretty obvious but Iâm just happy I figured it out. Although Iâm very destroyed over the fact Sasha is definitely dead. Like I heard Dekker in MAG 78 and even then I was still in denial until Leitner said âyeah no sheâs deadâ
In MAG 79, Iâm mostly pissed at Michael. Like the moment it put Tim and Martin through its creepy ass doors, I was just like full wheezing out of shock. I wheezed a lot today. Michael does not seem to know shit about humans too since it was like âIâŠI think itâs called a sportâ. Love Michael but also stop being so cryptic oh my god. Also Not Sasha was low key horrifying. Like props to Michael and Not!Sashas voice actors because man I have never felt my muscles seize up like I did when hearing them.
Not Sasha mentioned like being sent to the house of its enemy that had the biggest eyes you ever saw. I thought the enemy was the institute but later I found outâŠno. Oh yeah! Mag 80! What the hell!
Jurgen Leitner being like âyeah my assistants kinda were killed a lotâ like okay go supporting boss. I did not predict it was LEITNER who was living in the tunnels. Itâs nice he worked with Gertrude though.
Also, these entities. Again, I was vaguely aware of some since their name was thrown around but I didnât really realize the extent. Jon mentioned Michael and Leitner refers to it as âThe Distortionâ and thatâs its part of âThe Spiralâ. AND THATS WHERE FRACTALS COME FROM. God.
Also, when Leitner and Elias are talking, Leitner talks about âthe Strangerâ and Elias asks what they call it which is âThe Unknowingâ. The last episode, Not Sasha says that Jon will miss the Unknowing but he wouldnât understand so Iâm assuming the replacement things fall under The Stranger
One final thing I noticed was that he mentioned his assistants getting killed on that day of the attack and all the ways they got killed or I dunno attacked, corresponds with different themes from other statements
âStabbed through the throat by something with too many teeth and weird limbsâ- the replacement things (The Stranger)
âPulled into a cavernous maw that opened beneath herâ- I think this is related to The Butchers Window where Jared Hopworth would throw bones down that pit with teeth
âGregory Todd ran into a door that shouldnât have been thereâ- Michael. What are you doing đ (The Spiral)
âA great hand reached down through the roofâ -I actually donât know. Thought it was Freefall but misremembered it.
âPulled into a great, pulsating pile of meatâ- literally every episode with a meat theme. (EDIT 9/2/24: this is related to MAG 18 actually!)
âDoors with darkness and doors on fireâ- so the cult I think is related to the darkness but with the fire, I know that Burned Out and that statement with Agnes could be related
So Iâm guessing every way an assistant like got killed is one of those entities. I know The Vast is somehow related because Michael Crew mentioned that name before throwing himself out the window and then like changing. Guess heâs like a servant now or something?
Oh god thatâs most of it. Iâm wondering where Jon is now and I hope Tim and Martin donât like fully believe he murdered a man. Also I swear to god, Elias, if I catch you. Like Leitner was not a super good guy but come on. Iâm glad Not Sasha is gone butâŠmy OG girl đđđ
if you got this far in reading me descend down into my little obsession thank you đ«¶đ«¶đ«¶ like all this is for fun but everyone I talked to in this fandom is so chill and doesnât try to spoil which is nice. As someone who was in crazy fandoms, this is pretty calm for such a horrifying media. Iâll probably continue these posts for s3 but Iâll try to condense it I swear guys.
#the magnus archives#tma#tma podcast#mag 79#mag 80#Zabala0z thoughts#Iâll probably take like a day break to recover from this intense lore drop#JUST FOR HIM TO DIE???#like Iâm so pissed because Leitner knows so much and couldâve told more#then Elias and his shitty self decided to kill him#Iâm sure he has his reasons#âčïž

Married, Colleagues, Divorced
This thought would enter his mind: Something about it is definitely different. (Gaara Hiden, Ch. 1) | Ten Days of Tenzo (@tendaysoftenzo) Day 5: Kakashi | AO3 |
             ââââââââââââââââ
Yamato to Kakashi of the Two Normal Eyes: Kakashi. Can I ask you a question...?
Kakashi to Colleague I Think About Such a Normal Amount: Yes, TenzĆ?
Yamato: Did you date Iruka?
Kakashi: Why do u ask?
Yamato: Something Naruto said about going on outings with the two of you. Apparently, you even paid.Â
Kakashi: We are amicably divorced
Yamato: Elaborate.Â
Kakashi: The outings are part of our custody arrangement. The ramen is alimony
Yamato: I understand all of these words but not in this order.Â
Kakashi: Whatâs not to understand. Itâs important to model healthy separation for the kidsÂ
Yamato: So you two did date?
Kakashi: No. Next questionÂ
--Â
Kakashi to Standing TenzĆvation: Come sit here
Yamato to Hatake a Bow: Iâll come find you after. Weâre going to get in trouble for texting during jĆnin council deliberation again.Â
Kakashi: I tried talking to u with Anbu hand signals. U said those were too obvious
Yamato:Â They are too obvious; you should see the message Genma sent me after the last council. Why do I need to sit there anyway?Â
Kakashi: I want to eat with u today and if Iâm not already occupied after we finish I will be caught in a meeting vortex
Yamato: Comes with the new job-title, Rokudaime-sama.
Kakashi: Not until next week, officially. And I didnât enjoy any part of that sentence.
Yamato: Well, arenât you emotionally forthright today? Itâs refreshing.Â
Kakashi: Does that mean u will buy lunch?
Yamato: Youâre the one who just got a promotion. Hokageâs treat?Â
Kakashi: Iâll spar u for it
Yamato: Youâre on.Â
--
Kakashi to Magic Mountain: Soup on your windowsillÂ
Yamato to Lord Sixth Flags: Thank you. You could come in, you know.Â
Kakashi: U need some rest. Plus I have been assigned a mission to have tea with Hyuga-san 2nite
Yamato: Thatâs a new one. Who assigned that?
Kakashi: Me. đ Iâve been told clan relations are my problem now
Yamato: I can hardly wrap my head around you being a politician.Â
Kakashi: Iâm having a hard time wrapping my head around u nearly getting chakra exhaustion from a spar
Yamato: How many times have YOU gotten chakra exhaustion?
Kakashi: I havenât kept a countÂ
Yamato: I have. 16.
Kakashi: Thatâs not bad. 1.4% of missions. Point is thatâs what I expect from me, not uÂ
Yamato: Give me a break. Iâve only ever fought you when you had your sharingan. I didnât account for how much stamina youâd have without it. My hospital check-up was quick and painless.Â
Kakashi: Easy for u to say, u werenât awake for the berating when I hauled u in
Yamato: Tsunade-sama or Sakura?
Kakashi: Sakura, thankfully. She still feels bad about hitting me, unlike her shishĆ
Yamato: Are we in trouble?
Kakashi: Donât think so. The killing intent stopped after u woke upÂ
Kakashi: Sakura threatened to abandon her post and become a rogue ninja if we ever do it again, but I have a plan for that
Yamato: Do you anticipate Sakura leaving Konoha?
Kakashi: Not really. But after Sasuke I figured the other two should have contingencies, and I kept adding as u and Sai joinedÂ
Yamato: Are you saying you have a plan for a scenario where all five other members of our team abandon the village?Â
Kakashi: Donât take this the wrong way but I have a 14-step-plan for that scenario
Yamato: Both impressive and concerning.Â
Kakashi: Thatâs what they tell me in ninja therapy
Yamato: You have a therapist?Â
Kakashi: Yeah. Donât u?
Yamato: Donât take this the wrong way, but Iâve never been more attracted to you.
Kakashi: Hm. Whatâs your average amount of attraction to me?
Yamato: I abstain from the question.
Kakashi: đ€đăïžâ

Sakura to Team Thanks for Pardoning Sasuke, Sensei: reminder that our new team photo will be taken tomorrow. naruto buy a hairbrush. sensei and sasuke remember to show up on timeÂ
Naruto: i own a hairbrush!! it just doesnât work on my hair yâknow
Sakura: bring it and iâll help. iâm not breaking another one of my combs
Sasuke: Why do I get lumped in with Kakashi? Iâm on time.
Sakura: you missed the last three years of team meetings
Sasuke: TouchĂ©.Â
Sai: Do Yamato-taichĆ and I need to do anything?Â
Sakura: i think youâll both be fine. donât worry too much about what kind of smile you need. be natural
Sai: I will join you early so we can practice being natural.
Sakura: thatâs not what i meant. but sure we can get breakfastÂ
Naruto: me too!!!!
Sakura: NOT ichiraku.Â
Naruto disliked âNOT ichiraku.âÂ
Sasuke liked âNOT ichiraku.âÂ
Naruto: :(((((((((((( okÂ
Yamato: Kakashi and I will both have a meeting about the new housing developments first thing. I can make sure we get there.
Naruto: should u be spending so much time together?
Naruto: i donât want yamato-taichĆ to catch ur chakra exaustion again kaka-sensei
Kakashi: For the last time, I did not GIVE Yamato chakra exhaustion. U canât catch it
Sakura: debatable.
Sai: Sakura does offer medical credibility to Narutoâs theory.
Kakashi: TenzĆ, tell them.
Yamato: I havenât ruled it out.
Naruto: SEE. ur contagious senseiÂ
Kakashi: I miss when u all found me intimidating
Sasuke: We never found you intimidating.Â
Sakura liked âWe never found you intimidating.â
Naruto liked âWe never found you intimidating.â
Yamato: Didnât you make them homemade bento on their first day? Not your most menacing tactic.Â
Naruto: tbh iruka-sensei and jiraiya-sensei had a lot more rules than uÂ
Naruto: ur gonna have to work on that as Hokage!
Sai: If you would like, I can pretend to find you intimidating. Iâm a very good actor.Â
Kakashi: Thank u, Sai. đđ€Â

Anko to JĆnin Gone Wild: @Shiranui Genma, Married, Colleagues, Divorce: Gai, RaidĆ, AobaÂ
Genma: Easy. Marry RaidĆ, Colleagues Gai, Divorce Aoba
Aoba: I understand
Gai: You have ALWAYS been an EXCELLENT Colleague, my friend!!!
RaidĆ:Â đ
Yamato: What kind of a game is this?
Anko: Kakashi invented it. Something about it being a therapy exercise
Kakashi: Actually, my therapist advised against it. But Iâm glad we have a new game. Shizune was 2 good at online mahjong
Shizune: You would be too if you grew up with Tsunade-sama. Also your next meeting is 5 minutes. Iâll bring the briefing when Iâm upstairs
Kurenai: You know, as Hokage, technically Kakashi is responsible for all active shinobi. He shouldnât be allowed to date any of his colleagues
Anko: Hahahah, government-mandated celibacy
Kakashi: Iâve been Hokage for like 3 days and none of u respect authority anywaysÂ
Kurenai: Are you saying you DO want to date a jĆnin?
Anko emphasized, âAre you saying you DO want to date a jĆnin?â
Yamato emphasized, âAre you saying you DO want to date a jĆnin?â
Kakashi: U think I donât know a trap when I see one
Shizune: He has a picture of gljljLKHGLJ
Shizune: I would like everyone to know that Kakashi-sama grabbed my phone when I was writing that message.Â
Kakashi: Aiming for meeting brief. New depth perception with 2 eyes. Talk later bye
--
Yamato to Celibacy Senpai: Explain to me how the game works again. Since weâre colleagues, we canât be married or divorced?
Kakashi to Comrade Featured in Several GROUP Photos: Itâs more of a state of mind
Kakashi: Take for example, if I had u, Yugao and Ibiki. Iâd Colleagues Yugao, Divorce Ibiki and Marry u.Â
Yamato: That implies you were married to Ibiki before me.Â
Kakashi: Would it affect ur interest in marrying me?
Yamato: No, but Iâd wonder why we didnât get married first. We get along more.
Kakashi: We prioritized our friendship over other potential kinds of bonds
Yamato: I think we've got a pretty good track record for adapting. Besides, spouses should be friends. Anyway, none of this answers the question of why youâd suddenly marry someone else.
Kakashi: We were separated by a tsunami. U lost ur memory and I couldnât find u so Ibiki and I got together so the kids could have another role model
Yamato: How long was I gone before you moved on?Â
Kakashi: We co-parented but I didnât move on. Thatâs why u and I get marriedÂ
Yamato: What if Iâm more of a long-term-romantic-roommates kind of guy?Â
Kakashi: Iâd make that work
Yamato: In the game?
Kakashi: Sure. In the game
--
Naruto to Team Congratulations ChĆ«bu Sai: i went 2 the yamanaka flower shop for plant food after we met up and uâll never guess what i saw!! u know the bandana guy?
Yamato: Genma?Â
Kakashi: Ibiki?
Sakura: Ebisu-sensei?Â
Naruto: no. sasuke hair
Kakashi: Izumo
Yamato: Izumo.Â
Naruto: yeah him!! he was buying flowers for that other guy. big stick.
Sakura: đ€š
Kakashi: Thatâs Kotetsu. And?Â
Naruto: he was BUYING FLOWERS. for that GUY. for a DATE!!!!!
Sai: Ino tells me it is customary to bring your partner gifts like flowers to show your affection.Â
Naruto: I DIDNâT KNOW THAT WAS AN OPTION!!
Kakashi: Dating Kotetsu? It isnât. Heâs in a relationship. And heâs too old for u
Naruto: DATING A GUY!!
Yamato: Why didnât you think it was an option, Naruto?Â
Naruto: i mean, everyone thinks that way about guys and girls and everyoneÂ
Naruto: but no one DOES IT, yâknow
Sai questioned âi mean, everyone thinks that way about guys and girls and everyone.âÂ
Sai: Is that true?
Sakura: i think this is the wrong chat to ask that question inÂ
Yamato emphasized, âi think this is the wrong chat to ask that question in.â
Sai: Why?Â
Kakashi: I can give u a book that will explain it, Sai. Anyway Naruto, people can date anyone they want, within reason. As long as the people involved like each other
Naruto: anyone?
Kakashi: Yeah. Even more than one person at once. Right, Sasuke? đšđ»âđ€
Sasuke: Whatâs that emoji supposed to mean?
Kakashi: I just like to make sure ur phone is on.Â
Naruto: i gotta go for a walk
--
Yamato to Itâs Kakamplicated: Iâm going to tell him.
Kakashi to Konohaâs Next Top Anbu (Not a Sex Thing. Maybe A Sex Thing): Give him a few more days, heâll figure it outÂ
Yamato: âŠHow long did it take you to figure it out?
Kakashi: I abstain from the question
Yamato:Â đ
Kakashi: Fine. 19.Â
Yamato: Age or years?
Kakashi: Definitely one of those two things. Next questionÂ
--
Iruka to Senseis R Us: What have you been telling Naruto?
Kakashi: Uâll have to be more specific
Iruka: Why did Naruto say he was going to hang out with my ex-husband?!
Kakashi: What makes u think I have anything to do with it
Iruka: I didnât say I was talking to you. However, he was going to see your team and I donât think Yamato-san is responsible for this!!
Yamato: Iâm going to leave this one in Kakashiâs capable hands.
Iruka: Kakashi. What is wrong with you?
Yamato: Becoming a chunin at the age of 6, a strangely public black ops career, a possible attachment disorder and some very interesting tan lines.Â
Kakashi: Thatâs the kunai calling the shuriken sharp.Â
Kakashi: Also Iâll show u some interesting tan lines
Yamato loved âAlso Iâll show u some interesting tan lines.âÂ
Kakashi: Anyway. I didnât say much, Naruto was just curious about our historyÂ
Iruka: We donât have a history??Â
Kakashi: What about when I reupholstered your sofa?
Iruka: Was that... a romantic activity for you?
Kakashi: This is why weâd never work out, Iruka.Â
Iruka: Because you text like a member of the cypher corps?Â
Yamato: Itâs not so bad. His birthday messages are very heartfelt.Â
Kakashi loved âItâs not so bad. His birthday messages are very heartfelt.â
Kakashi: Thank you, TenzĆ. Â
Iruka: Whoâs TenzĆ?
Yamato liked âWhoâs TenzĆ?âÂ
Kakashi loved âWhoâs TenzĆ?âÂ
Iruka: This is going on your performance review as an ex-husband.
Kakashi: Thatâs fair
--
Yamato to Kakashinova: Have you seen my uniform belt?Â
Kakashi to Some Kind of Wooderful: I have not. U do keep taking it off every time we eat if that helps?
Yamato: I canât get used to the placement. But Iâll need to find it or order another one before my next check-in. You know how they are about item counts.Â
Kakashi: U can use one of mine if u wantÂ
Yamato: Your black belt which has Rokudaime Hokage stitched on the inside? Iâll pass, thanks.Â
Kakashi: I donât know why they keep putting that on everything. But u canât see that part while ur wearing it anyway. Itâs the same beltÂ
Yamato: Yes, but the Anbu would know it was your belt. I get enough heat for how much time we spend together as it is.
Kakashi: Favouritism?
Yamato: More like wisecracks about holding a torch for you.Â
Kakashi: Haha why. Do you have a crush on me, TenzĆ?
Yamato: You know the answer to this one. Next question.
Kakashi: What makes u think I know the answer?
Yamato: Youâre the smartest person in this village. And we see each other every day.
Kakashi: We all have our Shodaimeâs nipple
Yamato: Some of us more than most. Letâs try a different question. How many times have we kissed each other?
Kakashi: 7. 9 and a half if u count missionsÂ
Yamato: Where are you getting the half from?
Kakashi: CPR
Yamato: Ah. So, in those nine-and-a-half moments... You didnât have any suppositions? Inferences? Lessons gleaned from experience?Â
Kakashi: Four and a half of them weâd need to discount for recall, and the last few are harder to report on due to observer bias
Yamato: The observer bias in you gauging my romantic feelings.
Kakashi: Yes
Yamato: Because you would like?
Kakashi: You
Yamato: Me to what?
Kakashi: Long-term romantic roommates, eventually
Yamato: Oh.
Kakashi: Yeah. Do you mind?
Yamato: No, I donât mind. Maybe we can start with dinner and a walk first?Â
Yamato: And Kakashi? I long-term romantic roommates you too.Â
Kakashi: Thatâs a funny way to ask me on a date. đ See u in an hour?
Yamato: Itâs on.

Blue Hour
âThe blue hour is the idea that everything is about to end or, on the contrary, that everything is about to start again.â
Jihyo x gn!reader
Fluff
synopsis - it was only supposed to be a fling
wordcount - 1.9K
T/W - Blood (mentioned (1) once)
A/N - missing the killing me good erađ i actually donât know how to feel about this one but i miss my girl so
Twenty to thirty minutes.
Thatâs how long it takes for the sun to fully rise. To show itself in the morning.
It takes the same amount of time to fully disappear. To hide itself in the evening.
In each case, the moon isnât too far away. You remember seeing it every time before she showed up.
And every time after she left.
Natureâs schedule is strict. So was herâs, leading the two of you to only meet at night: in between two blue hours.
âItâs a little cloudy today.â
The sound of her voice broke your staring contest with the moon, finding the glow in her eyes to be more interesting. The latter shone brighter than yesterday, you noticed as she leaned against the railing beside you.
Your own smile pulled a little more at your lips as well, excited to see hers again. Youâd only part for half a dayâs worth every time, yet it always felt like it stretched as each day passed.
âI didnât get to see much of the sunset on my way home.â She pouted. âDid you?â
She hoped the rooftop of her apartment building had offered a better end to your day than it did hers. After all, the sunrise and sunsets sheâd witnessed from here so far were nicer.
You shook your head in response, though, making her frown. âJust a glimpse.â
âMaybe itâll be better tomorrow.â She said, still hopeful.
Her optimism made you smile. The sun could stop shining for all you cared, she would do its job better anyway. She was one little sunshine, a true ray of light you wouldnât have dared to approach if she hadnât done so first.
âI doubt it. Fall is coming soon.â You reminded, but she shrugged, looking at the darkening horizon with the same spark in her eyes.
âThe sun still sets during Fall, donât be so depressing.â
âBut itâs not as pretty.â You pointed out, pulling her eyes to you.
Maybe thatâs what you were looking for, she realised, giggling at the sight of a familiar smirk on your lips.
âAnd what if Iâm there?â She asked, grinning and posing with a hand under her chin for you.
She fluttered her eyelids, giving further into her own banter; her grin warm, playful and inviting as she urged you to join her point of view.
You couldnât help but laugh at her antics, giving in to the harmless corruption with a soft kiss on her happy lips. She managed to steal a few more from your own, smiling into each one despite having to chase them.
When you managed to pull away, she pointed fun at your flushed cheeks, something you expected by now. You sported the shade proudly, her teasing never bothered you, but sometimes you did wonder how she managed to turn you into such a mess.
Maybe it was because things were still recent between the two of you. Or maybe you were just too far gone andâin all honestyâtoo down bad for her.
Either way made sense, so you never bothered to look further.
âWhy do you still blush like that, weâve been doing this for weeks, you should be used to it.â She teased, but her words landed in a different tone on your ears.
They made you think.
For weeks, you repeatedâŠ
âI am, thatâs the problem.â You slipped out just under your breath. It was too late to retain the words, so you tried to keep them out of her ears.
Itâd been weighing on your mind for a bit, how uncertain your relationship with Jihyo has been.
Whatever was going on between the two of you, it wasnât exactly conventional anymore.
It was, only until about three weeks ago, when it was all supposed to end. You should not have seen her face past August 31st. Thatâs how flings worked. How summer flings worked at least. Or how you thought they worked?
You werenât really sure of anything regarding love and affection. Relationships had taken a whole new meaning the second she laid her lips on yours that one night at the bar.
The feelings, the thoughts, the moments⊠It was all new.
She was new.
Maybe infatuation was the right word at the time. Now it just felt weak. Unqualified. Wrong.
You couldnât tie the bond youâd developed down to such an ephemeral idea.
Not when your feelings for her settled in your heart with intentions so far out of field.
âThe problem?â She repeated after a while.
Way to ruin the mood, you mentally congratulated yourself.
âWhat exactly is the problem, Y/N?â She asked, holding onto your sleeve with a couple fingers.
A timid and discreet gesture that didnât go unnoticed. Your eyes fell down to her hand, and you couldnât help but feel some of that hope sheâd showcased minutes before.
Meeting her eyes again, you noticed the spark was gone, replaced by a clouded gaze similar to the blue sky above. It seemed heavy. Not as dark, only busy.
Was she worried?
âI just⊠Donât know where this is going. Thatâs all.â You tried to shrug it off, pulling your hand away to get the sleeve out of her grip.
The busy streets below kept an awkward silence away from the two of you, allowing you to feign interest about their noise and random happenings.
The distraction could have been sweet if only it werenât from your own mind.
It was hard not to think it all over. It was hard to focus on the rational part of it. The one telling you to leave tonight before getting hurt more than you already were.
It was hard because of how loud the other part was.
The one happy with just a glance from the woman beside you. Happy with just standing next to her. Seeing her smile, hearing her laugh. Satisfied with her kiss, her touch⊠As long as you learned more about her.
More than you should.
You sighed into the night, feeling your rationality push through.
âWould it make you feel better if I said I donât know either?â She broke the silence.
Your eyes found her again, catching her smiling down at her own hands. That smile seemed heavy as well, as if she was forcing it out to avoid any other reaction.
âNot at all.â You said truthfully, causing a chuckle to escape her lips.
You didnât understand why, especially when her eyes started watering instead of just⊠crinkling in joy.
Her teeth suddenly pulled on her bottom lip, nearly drawing blood as she tried to find words. The right ones. Ones that would make you stay even longer.
Her lips alone werenât enough for that anymore.
âBut⊠Donât you want to figure that out together?â
A breath caught in your throat. Then another, after a second. It felt as though you didnât know how to breathe anymore. Like her question shook much more than your heart.
You looked at Jihyo once more, hoping it would fix it like it did everything else, but her focus remained on her own fingers.
âI know I want to.â She said, picking at her nails, a giveaway of her nerves. âI just thought it was obvious.â
Her eyes finally raised to meet yours, sadness written all over the smile she tried to send you.
âDo you actually?â
Your voice came out a whisper, and it didnât surprise you. You werenât sure you wanted to know her answer to that question. You gave her a chance not to hear it. To get away and break the rules with no consequences for a little longer.
Truth was youâd let her.
âI think I like you.â
There it went again; your breathing.
âYou think?â You chuckled, but only to fight the tears suddenly pooling in your eyes. âJihyo, I canât do this anymore.â
You stared out ahead, your gaze landing on nothing and everything all at the same time. So many lights, buildings, so many trees and people⊠Yet nothing registered.
All you could process, all you could feel⊠It emaned from right next to you.
The skies above reminded you of it. The familiar blue drowned its details as time deepened its shade. You watched it happen so many times with her you could blindly tell the time.
08:10pm.
Thatâs when she decided to take your hand in hers, pulling you away from the overwhelming sights.
Thatâs when you felt the warmth of her hands against your cheeks as she made you look into her eyes instead.
You focused on the lights reflecting in them instead, trying to avoid her thoughts. They could hurt.
âTell me something, Y/NâŠâ She trailed off, her eyes desperate for even a sign of your focus on her. âDo you regret any of what happened between us?â
âYes.â
You watched silently as the effects of your answer painted her features.
They tensed up. Eyebrows lowered, lips narrowed, yet eyes watered, holding a sense of hopelessness you witnessed for the first time⊠It was messy. As if even she didnât know how to feel.
You, however, could tell.
She wasnât angry. She was exasperated. Frustrated.
âCan you feel it too now? Do you see why I regret it?â
You should have known she wouldnât answer the way you wanted her to.
You knew she was stubborn.
You should have expected her lips on yours.
Just like you knew youâd melt into them with a single kiss despite yourself.
Your will never mattered when it came to her. You always ended up folding to hers, giving into a second kiss before intiating the third one.
And you rarely pulled away first.
âWhy?â You practically begged through breaths sheâd stolen from you.
The gentle brush of her thumb against your skin, the warmth and care she seemed to hold in her eyes for you, the silent words you could make out in them⊠It almost made you break down right then and there.
It all suddenly became so obvious.
âBecause I like you.â She smiled.
It was bright again. It made you believe her a little more, although you still werenât convinced.
Maybe she sensed that, as she wasted no time to argue her point.
âThatâs why Iâve been making excuses to keep seeing you.â
âMy flight back was delayed, can I stay at your place?â
âThe companyâs letting me choose the flight date and I donât actually have to go back to work for another weekâŠâ
âCan we stay friends? Iâd love to just hang out with you. Maybe come see me in Seoul some time?â
âIt just happened, letâs just put this on reunion excitment.â
âYes, friends donât kiss each other. But friends with benefits do. So no, itâs not weird.â
Maybe they were not all excuses. Some you definitely had a hand in. Yet you remained clueless for some reason.
Love really makes you dumb.
âI thought you were playing me.â You mumbled.
âThen you donât know me at all.â She said, amused.
âThat would be because I wasnât supposed to.â
âYet you learned to, didnât you?â
You nodded, looking down in embarrassment. You couldnât help but feel ashamed of the drama youâd caused.
You scolded her for not being honest, but you were just as guilty.
âIâm sorry.â You mumbled again. âThis is all new to me, I guess I freaked out a little.â
Your confession caused a few giggles to escape her lips, to your delight. The sound made you smile as you admired the happiness radiating from her features again.
The intensity of your emotions made it feel as though it had been months since you last had the chance to.
âFor what itâs worth, Iâm sorry too. My intentions could have been a little clearer.â She admitted. âI want to date you.â
You chuckled at her small clarification, finding the moon in the dark blue sky again.
It shined a little more. The blue was turning into its darkest shade yet, as the day finally left room for the night.
The blue hour was over, and it made you smile.
You had all night to spend with Jihyo. The woman holding your smiley cheeks so softly in between her hands.
For the first time since you met her, you couldnât wait until the next one.
Because this time you wonât have to forget about her once the sun comes out of hiding.
