alastor: patrick bateman. man i don’t even know 😭 it was the first thing i thought of and then i physically could not think of anything better. and also it made me giggle. annoying wealthy white guy, checks out enough for me. i don't think he'd like huey lewis and the news tho

dock: leatherface. i mean c'mon, he had to be leatherface. i did actually briefly consider making him pinhead because of the black leather and the fixation on pain and all that, but leatherface felt more correct. gave him the sledge because i was NOT drawing two fucking chainsaws for this. absolutely not

lorelei: carrie white. largely went with vibes on this one ngl. lorelei's obviously not nearly as sympathetic as carrie lmao, but i thought the haunted stare and the scary telekinetic powers fit for her :) also i kinda just wanted to draw her covered in blood . shrug

bandy: chucky. listen i wanted to make him a horror clown SO bad but none of them felt right :( wanted to make him a killer klown from outer space but they're so bootnasty looking and it wouldn't have carried well, and then i was debating making him tim curry pennywise but it just didn't connect well in my head. so now he's chucky :) ginger little asshole. the batteries being swapped into his hand was supposed to be a reference to the scene in the first child's play where karen realizes chucky doesn't have any batteries in, i thought that was fun. i also desperately wanted to make him the djinn from wishmaster but that was not gonna work out so i didn't even bother entertaining the concept fhdsjfhdjs

diana: pearl. country gal !!! also just thought she'd look soooo pretty in that red dress from the end, and i think pearl's energy in the scene where she's chasing mitsy felt sufficiently dianacore. diana isn't that manic obviously but u get the point. i want her to feed someone to an alligator!!!

lance: ash williams. the stupid fuckboy energy is PALPABLE, i think lance would absolutely get up to some goofy evil dead 2 hijinks omg are u kidding me. also i think if you told him that having a chainsaw hand was an option he would cut his own hand off immediately

Phantom of the Paradise - Brian de Palma (1974), a musical and the lovechild of the myth of Faust, the Phantom of the Opera, and the Shining (the soundtrack is to die for).

La Folie des Grandeurs - Gérard Oury (1971), an adaptation from a play (by the author of les Mis) about politics, the Court of Spain, love, greed - I've been in love with the lackey my whole life.

The Seventh Seal - Ingmar Bergman (1957), the story of a medieval soldier playing chess against Death to save his life (and a great source of relief when my head was playing against me).

The 101 Dalmatians - Stephen Herek (1996), not quite auteur cinema but my favourite comfort movie, at first a great reminder of how peaceful life without modern day tech was, then an amazing love story, then an investigation, a fantastic cast, perfect villains, many dogs, great music, my whole heart on a platter.

Rear Window - Alfred Hitchcock (1954), where a photographer stuck at home after an accident grows suspicious of a neighbour whose wife has disappeared.

La Jetée - Chris Marker (1962), an experimental sci-fi short movie made by one of my favourite directors, about the scientific experiments done on a man to save the world, that later inspired Terry Gilliam's Twelve Monkeys (that could also be on this list).

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Jim Sharman (1975), the meeting between a young old school couple and a group of weird creatures in a mansion (including my husband Tim Curry).

Pride and Prejudice - Joe Wright (2005), of course.

Body Snatchers - Philip Kaufman (1978), one of the four adaptations of the book and the best one in my opinion, the story of people mysteriously disappearing and returning changed and a tale about human passion.

Old boy - Park Chan-Wook (2003), the visually stunning and heartbreaking story of a man randomly kidnapped, kept somewhere for years, then released without a word.

Minority Report - Spielberg (2002), a dystopian movie about a world where the efforts of science and exploitation have put an end to criminality, at a great price.

Sleeping Beauty - Disney (1959), the most beautiful one, the only one with a composer's music, one of the best villains.

The Age of Adaline - Lee Toland Krieger (2015), the story of a woman who stopped aging and navigates the world while trying to not get caught or catch feelings.

Planet Terror - Robert Rodriguez (2007), an unserious tale of zombies, a virus, and Rose McGowan's pew pew leg.

Home alone 2 - Chris Columbus (1992), for Christmas in New York, Tim Curry, the toy store's owner, and the pigeon lady.

Electrick children - Rebecca Thomas (2012), where a Mormon teenager gets pregnant with the child of God after listening to a tape and runs away to Vegas to find the dad.

Ok ya, Alex clarifying that Jon isn't stupid he just makes poor decisions. Season 2 summary:

Uuuuu ya so this season was really good. I kinda listened to it in bursts of about ten episodes every couple weeks and then have been saving up the reactions to post later so these are usually going up about a week or so after I actually listened to the episode just FYI. 

I also do have a lot of spoilers cause I can't keep myself away from fanfic and people don't always tag for spoilers and I kiiinda wana know what's coming beforehand anyway? Idk it's hard man I get very stressed about what might happen and then also listening to too much at a time is too spooky for my poor little heart so I gotta read the less spooky fanfic to fulfill the hyperfixation you see. (If anyone has fanfic with spoilers only up to season 2 that'd be great btw) 

Anyway, I try not to take spoiler type stuff into account unless I'm just so sure of it I can't really not acknowledge that I know about it. 

Also, can I just talk about Michael for a minute?? Cause he's such a unique character? And I guess maybe there are other characters like him but I haven't ever seen one -tho to be fair tma is only like the third horror thing I've ever really got into (the other two are the SCP Foundation in its various forms and Little Nightmares. Hence why I keep making reference to SCP it's really the only thing I know similar to this.) But he's such a cool concept!!? Like someTHING that still has a personality? He's so not human? Like I get what he says but also I don't really? Idk im pretty sure he's an avatar right? Right?? Idk if that means he was a person at some point? But all this to say that he is probably the most inhuman character I've come across so far and I'm trying to figure out what it is about him that's so "other" to me? Like... I don't really know what Micheal's deal is? he seems to want to be sort of a neutral mischief-maker but also it seems like he keeps getting invested. But also I just love the way he talks about himself. Like he's a monster that has a personality and is fully intelligent but isn't just evil but isn't neutral either and certainly isn't benevolent. Like he's so complex and just,,,, the idea of a "thing" that's got a personality?? I love it? Kind of like dryads or spirits of things? Like the idea that after a long time things gain personality just by existing? Not that that's what Michael is necessarily? but that same sort of concept applies to him I think. Like the way he IS the maze and wants to help but wants to just watch but wants to kill them all. He's just so interestinggggggg. (And another vision of what jon could become?)

So are him and not-Sasha avatars? Not-Sasha also seems completely inhuman and I was under the impression that avatars were (or used to be) human? Or are they like personifications of their power? Do all the powers have personifications of themselves. not-Sasha seems even less human than Michael? Like she seems to just really genuinely enjoy causing fear? Tho I guess we didn't really get to hear a lot of her. She just seemed kinda gleefully angry most of the time we heard from her. Was she... Human once!???

Anyway. Also, can I just talk about leitners line about jon belonging to the eye!!? Just..*chefs kiss* hnnnngg I need more jon grappling with that. I just need more everyone dealing with the fallout post all of the finallies ok? I still need more of jon angsting over his worms scars and stuff and now I also need jon freaking out about belonging to a fear god power thing. 

Also Martin! Is Martin ok? He sure did a lot of yelling which he doesn't usually? Look I love him and he actually thinks before he acts (unlike SOME people *looks at jon*) and he writes poetry and it is pretty good poetry ok!! And he cares about everyone and just wants a happy ending and aaaaa😭

Petition to get some statements from Martin's pov tho? I mean that's not gonna happen cause Jon's the archivist but I want more martin pov!! Maybe we can get some of his poem tapes??? Pls????? 

I feel so bad for Tim. It sounds like he's kinda fallen into despair.

Idk how much of a help I’ll be, since I’m trying it for the first time and I don’t really know what I’m getting into; you might get better results scouting out things more to your individual taste. but I went through some of their catalogue, picked out some stuff I thought might interest me, and tried to come up with a list:

Arthurian stuff

There’s this translation of The Mabinogion by Sioned Davies that looks promising; it seems fairly fresh and original, and possibly better fitted to oral storytelling of an audio medium than the other versions. I really like the Mabinogion’s Arthurian stories, and as much as I like Charlotte Guest’s version, it can be cool to see different ways of telling the same legends. 

There’s a Sir Gawain and the Green Knight audiobook narrated by Terry Jones. It also includes Pearl and Sir Orfeo. I know these are all pretty easy to find online to read, but sometimes it can be nice to listen along while you read.

I also found an audiobook of the Romances of Chretien de Troyes. I’ve been reading de Troyes lately so I’ll probably skip this one myself, though I do kind of want to take a quick listen just so I can see if I’m pronouncing the characters’ names correctly (I have no idea how to say ‘Bagdemagus’ without feeling incredibly stupid).

Other stuff

I personally like plays! I’m planning on listening to Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, Arcadia by Tom Stoppard, and Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound. In general they have a pretty good selection of Greek tragedies, which aren’t totally up my alley, but I think other people might like them.

Dracula, ft Tim Curry, Alan Cumming, and a full voice cast for all the characters.

Carmilla, ft David Tennant and Rose Leslie, while we’re on the topic of vampires.

Kenneth Branagh narrated some stuff, and I find that his performances tend to be really engaging and fun (I absolutely love his film adaptations of Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing). I’m aiming to listen to Frankenstein, and either King Lear or Richard III.

There are some BBC Radio dramatizations, including Paradise Lost & Paradise Regained, and The Divine Comedy, and a bunch of other things that would probably be pleasant listening.

Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility, read by Rosamund Pike, bc I’ve been meaning to reread them, I like Rosamund Pike, and the preview I heard was lovely.

This is a bit of the departure from the rest of this list, but: Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle, bc I want to reread it and I lost my physical copy. Her short stories are very good too.

Long things I might try if I have the time: The Shahnameh, The Kalevala, and Edmund Spenser’s The Faerie Queene (I read part of it in school but never finished it).

mostly I tried to look for things that I wouldn’t just be able to find in my local libraries’ online collections, but that was surprisingly challenging. I know I should probably be trying to seek out more Audible originals, but most of their original stuff just did not appeal to me. I’m going to keep looking, though.

If Albion: The Legend of Arthur turns out to be good, I’ll post about it for sure; and if it’s not good, I’ll probably still post about it. I think I’m probably going to start listening to it tomorrow or this weekend. tbh I’m kind of perplexed by Audible’s marketing/publicity—I’ve had a difficult time finding any information on it, with maybe two promotion articles and no professional reviews anywhere...like barely any effort’s been made, even though it’s got actors from things like Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders. Hopefully that’s not a red flag.

He did it for me. That’s what they said afterwords. Did they think it would make me feel better? Probably. They don’t understand, but I don’t expect them to. So many things I never said out loud to anybody. Things I felt. Things I wanted to do. Wanted to say. I should have. Secrets don’t do me any good now. Even rejection is better than never knowing.

You always think you have more time.

I should have stayed on the bus.

But I would have still been snapped. I would have still died. And Tony would have still come home to find me gone and done the same thing he did before. The same stupid, brave, beautiful, terrible, wonderful, awful thing he did.

I woke up from an uneasy sleep filled with the same guilty thoughts…but with a plan. Admittedly, it’s a stupid plan. If Tony was here he would probably do everything he could possibly think of to keep me from doing it. But…he isn’t there. There is no one to stop me, and I’m not gonna stop myself. So…guess it’s now or never, right?

There’s this really old Greek myth about a poet whose wife dies. He goes to hell to get her back, basically. It doesn’t end that well for him…but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad plan. I’m not a poet. I’m a scientist. STEM and the arts. Very different. We tackle problems differently. I’m not going to fall for the things that Orpheus fell for…and I’m going to get Tony back.

As soon as I figure out how you make a deal with the devil…

“There’s no such thing as the devil, Peter.”

He’s frustrated with me. I can tell by the tone of his voice and the way Cloaky is fluttering. Doctor Strange is pacing in front of my chair in the Sanctum. The Sanctum was my first stop after breakfast. I’m skipping school. I shouldn’t be, but some things are more important than education.

The doctor didn’t like my plan. I mean, I didn’t really expect him to? I told you, I know it’s a terrible plan. But still, I thought he might understand why I’m doing this and help me anyway. Take pity on the kid who loses everything and everyone he loves. Really, I kind of want to hang onto May’s legs like a toddler because I’m so afraid she’ll go next. Then I really WOULD be alone.

He stops pacing and turns on me.

Boy does he look worried. He scrubs a hand over his goatee. He presses his fingers to his closed eye lids. He sighs and and mutters a curse he doesn’t think I heard. But I did. He’s going to tell me to see a therapist. They always do. As if soft science is the answer to my problems. No offense to Sam, even though he’s kind of a jerk and the only cool thing about him are those wings, but I don’t really think therapy is going to help me at all. Only thing that can help me has cloven feet and horns. Well, assuming the devil looks like Tim Curry in that really old movie Legend. I sure hope not, cause that thing gave me nightmares when I saw it.

Last year.

“Peter…” He squats down in front of the chair, hands braced on the arm rests at my left and right. Pinning me down. Making me listen to him. Maybe halfway resembling a hug?

C’mon, Doc, we’re not there yet.

I can feel something soft brush my fingers in my lap and I look down to see the scarlet cloth of Cloaky petting me reassuringly. Yeah, that’s not a good sign either. “I know what it’s like to lose someone close to you.” No shit Sherlock. Everybody’s lost somebody by the time they get to your age. But did your someone die saving the universe, and did he get himself into that position by trying to save you?

“I lost my sister when I was your age.”

That’s a no. I try really hard not to roll my eyes because that would be insensitive. I mean his sister did die, and that sucks, but hasn’t the doc ever heard of not comparing tragedies. Mine’s bigger anyway, dude.

“She was the person I cared about most in the world, and losing her was terrible. If someone had told me I could make a deal with the devil to get her back, I probably would have…but you can’t do that, Peter. No one can. Those are cautionary tales about making deals with people without understanding the terms. They’re not real. Heaven and hell are not real.”

“H..How do you know?” I hate how whiny my voice sounds. Strained like I’m holding back tears, and I’m totally not…because I can feel the wetness on my cheeks and I 100% know I’m already crying. So there. “Wizards aren’t supposed to be real either, but you’re real and you’re here. You have lots of magic books, right? So…so go look at them and find out what I have to do to get Tony back.”

“You can’t get him back, Peter.”

I stand up abruptly, knocking Doctor Strange backwards and away from me. Only Cloaky keeps him from falling to the floor. As it is, he’s kind of hovering in a weird seated position for a moment before Cloaky helps him to stand again. “You’re going to feel really dumb when I do, Doctor Strange. Really,really dumb.”

“Peter…”

I don’t care what he has to say. I really don’t. I don’t even care if he calls May. I know he doesn’t have her number, but he has Tony’s old number and Pepper definitely does…but I don’t care. I don’t care what any of them say or how stupid this idea may sound to any of them. I’m going to do it.

Trouble is…I don’t know who else to turn to.

Doctor Strange is the only wizard I know. Thor’s not really around. Not that I think he knows the devil either. Since he’s not REALLY a god. There are a few occult stores in Queens. I could go there, look at some books, buy some magic thinga-ma-jigs like they use in the movies, but…I don’t know. If things like that really work, you’d think there’d be a lot more deals with the devil going down, huh?

I end up walking. Hands in my pockets, head down, lost in thought. I need a plan B, but plan A wasn’t even really much of a plan so it’s not looking good.

I don’t know how long I’ve been walking. It’s pretty dark. There aren’t any people around. I think I walked most of the day? I don’t even recognize this part of the city, so that’s probably a bad sign. I’ve gotten really good at navigating the city since I started as Spider-Man, but I guess the city looks different from up there.

There’s a sound behind me, the rhythmic thud of footsteps.

Great.

Someone’s going to try to mug me.

I have web shooters on under my shirt. I can probably even activate that Ironspider suit before the guy gets any closer…but I doubt I even need a suit to stop a mugger.

And then it hits me.

I’ve never felt anything like it.

Spidey Sense always feels uncomfortable. Like static shock after you slid your socks on carpet or like the beginnings of a stress headache or like the burn of a sneeze before you sneeze all wrapped up into one. This time, it’s like all of those things have been multiplied by a hundred. I feel like my head is literally about to explode and everything in me is telling to run as fast and as far as I can away from those footsteps.

But I don’t.

I don’t because I’ve turned around to look in their direction and I’ve seen what’s coming.

Human sized. Not big. But still really fucking scary. Tim Curry in Legend. Bright red. Curved horns. Cloven hooves. His black eyes are staring straight at me and I’m frozen.

My last thought before he closes the last few yards that separate us is that Doctor Strange probably shouldn’t have quit his day job.

I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED. ;)

So about three months ago, @jilldrawblog drew this, and we talked about an Timhelm/Rhack knight au that actually grew quite an extensive plot but I have come to terms with the fact that I am probably never going to write it, so here’s how it went:

Part I: Country Boy

The story starts out, as so many of them do, with a poor farm boy. Timothy is an orphan who lives and works on a farm out on the edge of the kingdom. It’s not a particularly exciting life; but as the farm owner (who doesn’t like him, Timothy knows) has told him over and over, it’s probably about the best he can expect.

One day a Knight of the Realm stops by looking for shelter for the night. Even this far out from the capital city, it’s never a good idea to turn away an envoy of the Crown so the farm owner says, “well, there’s space in the barn. You can stable your horse there, take advantage of the amenities. Such as they are,” he adds, glancing significantly at Tim.

(Tim sleeps in the barn.)

Tim’s face is burning; he knew the owner didn’t like him but he didn’t think that he would lend Tim out, as it were. But this is the most important visitor the farm has ever had, and the owner isn’t about to give up the chance to curry favor with a Knight.

On the other hand, Tim definitely took one look at Sir Wilhelm (and Sir Wilhelm’s biceps) (and thighs) and said oh no, and look, can you really blame Tim for the direction his thoughts took. Wilhelm doesn’t seem perturbed by the offer, but he doesn’t appear to be taking advantage of it either, when he’s bedding down in his cloak for the night. Tim is like, what do I do. And maybe they bang that night, maybe they don’t, but either way they end up talking and Wilhelm asks Tim “…do you like it here?” And Tim answers, “Actually no, I hate it.”

And Wilhelm offers to take him back to the capital city, to train him to be a knight, and they’re gone before the sun rises the next morning.

It takes them a while to get to the capital city because they were way out on the edge of the kingdom, and Wilhelm makes good on his promise to start training Tim. Tim’s a natural fighter, it turns out, and although obviously nothing can substitute for years of sword drills and training, Tim’s picking up the basics pretty well.

There’s also lots of pining. Lots and lots of mutual pining.

But things are finally looking up for Tim, and when they get back to the city he’s a little overawed by how big is it - remember, he’s never known anything but the farm - and when Wilhelm asks if he wants to go rest while Wilhelm reports to the Regent Tim says no, he’d like to see the Court and the throne room and all of that, even dusty and travel-stained as he is. Who knows when he’ll get another chance, after all.

So he goes with Wilhelm and immediately wishes he hadn’t, because everyone’s so fancy and clean, but Wilhelm doesn’t appear to be bothered by any of it, so Timothy travels along in his wake and kneels in front of the Prince sitting on the throne and the Regent standing next to it and almost has a heart attack when he looks up because the Prince has his fucking face.

Prince Jack is equally taken aback, because for his entire life he’s been told that his twin brother was dead.
