Geister-Krimi

C'est la série de fascicules d'épouvante créé par le Kelter Verlag pour concurrencer celles des autres grossiums des groschenhefte: Pabel (Vampir, DamonenKiller), Zauberkreis (Silber Grusel Krimi) et Bastei (Gespenster Krimi). Moins "culte" que les précédentes, oui, peut-être, mais l'appréciation reste subjective.

Les débuts de la série sont de 1974, certains avancent même 1973, et eurent lieu dans une série policière de Kelter (Mister Chicago) où parurent les trois premiers numéros (n.s 212, 216 et 220 de Mr. Chicago) C'est au n.4 que "Geister Krimi" devint une collection autonome. Il y eut 405 numéros jusqu'en novembre 1981. Format 15,5 × 22,5 - 64p

Aux côtés d'auteurs connus du fasciculat, qui sont chez d'autres editeurs, concurrents, sous d'autres noms, tels Kurt Brand (qui signe ici Janos Vereb), Friedrich Tenkrat (signant Edgar Tarbot), Uwe Anton( signant Henry Quinn) ou Martin Eisele (signant Mike Burger), il y a aussi de nombreux auteurs ayant rarement publiés ailleurs, voire pas du tout. De purs produits du Kelter-Verlag, en quelque sorte… Il y eut aussi Gudrun Voigt, une des rares romancières à écrire dans le genre, signant ici Phillys Cocker et créant la sous-série "Geisterkommission", un département spécifique de Scotland Yard consacré aux enquêtes sur les crimes inexplicables, impliquant le "surnaturel". Car dans Geister-Krimi, comme chez les autres, il y avait des héros récurrents, ou des sous-séries.

Rick Masters, 67 titres par Andrew Hathaway (vrai nom = Richard Wunderer) Mark Tate, 33 titres signés W.A. Hary (c'est Wilfried A. Hary) Gary Dano, 11 titres signés W.A.Castell (c'est Werner Andreas Hary, frère du précédent) …

Une seconde édition ne connut qu'une trentaine de titres. Et une troisième, vers 2015, si je me souviens bien, à peine une douzaine avant de disparaître.

Husky Jam Spring Thing: Lineup Run-Down

April 19, 2022 was a night for the books! The second Husky Jam was a blast, with a hefty lineup of six student bands. Let's dive in to the performers of the night.

Gender Envy: They're here, they're queer, and they're ready to rock

Gender Envy, a queercore/riot grrrl band started the show with a cover of "Celebrity Skin" by Hole, a fun opener that helped set the tune for the rest of the night. While the star of the show is undoubtedly frontperson Cassidy, drummer Archie had an entire fan section, complete with a fan poster from UW club 'MESH', cheering for him at the end of the set. The two guitarists, Lily and Sam, were both skilled instrumentalists, but bassist Cam, showed their skill by playing the trumpet for a soulful song halfway through the set. This band works as a cohesive unit, a special thing in the punk world, similar to the early work of Tribe 8.

Close Encounters: Havin' fun in Area 51

This band was endearing, and a fun time. Lead guitarist Anton is one to watch, opening their cover of "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" by using a mug to play the opening solo. Front woman Jacque has a singing voice meant to be in rock n' roll, which was showcased best in the band's original songs. Backup guitar Isiah and bassist Alex had their standout moments too, but event organizer and drummer Warren had the best performance of the night. I'm mostly just bitter that there wasn't any alien-related songs, but I was satisfied with the lemonade they made with my lemons.

Moonlight Marmalade: Light, citrusy, fresh, and glacé

While not too much information is available on this group, Moonlight Marmalade was my favorite band of the night. They're a fusion of Weezer, jazz cords with a Japanese influence (their words, not mine) with a sound bleeding with passion. Their cover of "Ripped my Pants" (from Spongebob) was the highlight of the entire show, with a room full of college students yelling along. Their original lyrics were where the Weezer influence was highlighted the most, with songs about California beaches, sung in harmony. If they establish a larger social media presence, these guys could be the next big UW student band.

Ponzi: Getting scammed never sounded so good

In case the name didn't tip you off, this band is dripping with a bitingly satirical gimmick, like a modern Seattle spin on Dead Kennedys. Several times throughout the performance they thanked/threatened people they 'hired' to attend, a gimmick that got a chuckle out of me and the rest of the audience every time. Drummer Lucas did a great job of elevating the performances of his bandmates, who each sang a song or two. While all three vocalists were amazing, they each brought something different to their performances. Starting off was guitarist Roger, whose vocals were good, but not quite standout, when contrasted with his bandmates. The most skillful vocalist was the other guitarist Liv, who had a crooning voice. But bassist Oleander, who had the charisma and conviction of the best punk singers out there really shined that night. They also played the bass like a machine gun, high on their chest and ready to kick ass.

Aurora Ave: On the corner of beach and indie pop

I don't feel like I was really the target audience of this band, but I understand the appeal. If you've ever listened to the Spotify playlist Lorem, you'll probably like their sound. While they aren't doing anything too new or original with indie pop, they sound wonderful, like a sunny beach, and can certainly please the young adult crowd. There was a lot of excitement and love for this group, and I hope they can try to get a bit more unique in their styling.

All of Our Cornbread: Sweet and full of flavor

Named after frontman Oliver Norred (say both quickly in succession for a tongue-twister), this band is messy, in all the right ways. Oliver's range is the real star of the show, loose and unhinged, backed up with a perfect amount of funk/jazz. I can't really think of any soundalike to be honest, maybe if Weird Al and Pee Wee Herman's child sang a They Might Be Giants song, through a malfunctioning voice modifier, but that doesn't do this guy justice. Seriously, he's like a roadside attraction. The songs weren't anything too interesting, lyrically speaking, but honestly that didn't really matter, Oliver could sing the entirety of War and Peace over the band's instrumental stylings, and it would still be entertaining.

Hans-Peter Friedrich (CSU, Vizepräsident): Herr Kollege Bystron, wenn Sie hier schon das Wort „Arschloch“ verwenden, können Sie bitte noch mal klarstellen, dass Sie damit nicht den früheren Außenminister bezeichnet haben?

Petr Bystron (AfD): Das kann ich nicht klarstellen! Das, was ich gesagt habe, war ein Zitat von Joschka Fischer!

Hans-Peter Friedrich: Sie wollen also den früheren Außenminister als „Arschloch“ bezeichnen? Dann erteile ich Ihnen einen Ordnungsruf.

Carsten Schneider (SPD): Bei der Thüringer Landtagswahl war die Linkspartei mit den Zweitstimmen deutlich stärkste Partei mit, glaube ich, 31 Prozent. Die CDU hatte 22 Prozent. Bei den Erststimmen wiederum war die CDU deutlich stärkste Partei und die Linkspartei nur auf dem dritten Platz.

Stephan Brandner (AfD): Die SPD kommt gar nicht vor!

Carsten Schneider: Ach, Herr Brandner, halten Sie einfach mal die Klappe.

  Timon Gremmels (SPD): Wenn man die Rede von Herrn Kotré so hört, stellt man fest, dass die beste Nachricht des Tages ist, dass die AfD künftig eine Minute weniger hier im Parlament spricht.

Nicole Höchst (AfD): Wie schnell könnten auch Sie zum Ziel von bundesregierlichem Framing und Maßnahmen im Kampf gegen freiheitlich-konservative Meinungen und Haltungen werden!

Matthias Höhn (Die Linke): Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen der AfD-Fraktion, Sie haben ja nun begründet, dass kein Schiff hingeschickt werden soll, damit es gar nicht erst in die Situation kommt oder in die Not, überhaupt Flüchtlinge aufzunehmen. Schreiben Sie doch gleich in Ihre Anträge rein: Lasst die Leute ersaufen! – Das ist das, was Sie hier politisch vertreten.

Which Christines and Phantoms do you think have had little to no chemistry with each other, but have done pretty well with other co stars? Sorry if this is a little too specific haha

I was a bit confused by the other co-stars bit (do you mean like the Christine had no chemistry with that specific Phantom but had more with other Phantoms (or vice-versa), or that she had more with the Raoul who was on at the time), so I decided to try and do both.

John Owen-Jones, Nicky Adams, Ramin Karimloo - This was from an audio, but even on audio I could tell that Nicky Adams was not putting anything into the role, so she and JOJ were utterly boring together. JOJ with virtually any other Christine is much better.

Sándor Sasvári, Renata Krassy, Zoltan Miller - I find Sasvari (and also Attila Csengeri) intensely cold and standoffish to his Christines, so he and Renata Krassy just never quite connected. On the other hand, Krassy was very cute with Zoltan Miller’s Raoul. Here’s him nose-booping her.

Matthew Cammelle, Rachel Barrell, David Shannon - Another where I thought the Phantom, Matthew Cammelle, just seemed totally uninterested in Christine, with Rachel Barrell responding by also being way too calm. But she’s much better with just about any of the other Phantoms she has played opposite against (JOJ or Earl Carpenter).

Uwe Kroger, Beatrix Reiterer, Lucius Wolter - Beatrix Reiterer and Lucius Wolter did not have good chemistry because they were just that great, they had it only because Uwe Kroger was off on some other realm of interpretation that never intersected with them.

Anthony Warlow or Simon Pryce, Ana Marina, Alexander Lewis - I found both Warlow and Pryce to be too overwrought and campy and it didn’t mesh too well with Ana Marina’s Christine, who was also a bit dramatic. But she worked great with Alexander Lewis, who was more serious and down-to-earth, and I think it also resulted in some good chemistry between the two.

David Shannon, Gina Beck, Will Barratt - This is not necessarily Shannon’s fault, but the fault of the directing, but the result was that his Phantom was too restrained around Christine, and that Gina Beck ended up having more cute moments with Will Barratt’s Raoul (not so much Simon Bailey’s IMO, because I found Bailey overly shouty).

Hugh Panaro, Sierra Boggess, Kyle Barisich - Panaro usually does well with most any actress, but I never quite warmed up to him when he was paired with Sierra Boggess; too aggressive, almost angry. He was better with pretty much any other Christine, as Boggess was better with pretty much any other Phantom (but especially Ramin Karimloo).

Paul A. Schaefer, Mary Michael Patterson, Jeremy Hays - Schaefer came off as cottony-sounding Panaro-clone who didn’t care as much, which was not great with Mary Michael Patterson’s more reserved, realistic Christine. She was much better with Jeremy Hays as Raoul, who was also a little quieter in his acting, or with other Phantoms who put some more thought into the role.

James Barbour, any Christine, any Raoul - James Barbour was the most vanilla, by-the-blocking Phantom I’d ever seen, and just about every Christine he played opposite had much better chemistry with their Raoul, or with any other Phantom they had played with.

Peter Joback, Emmi Christensson, Anton Zetterholm - I thought Joback’s more contrived Phantom did not work too well with Emmi Christensson’s more subtle Christine, nor did she seem to have much feeling for him beyond pity. Subsequently, she seemed to have much more chemistry with Anton Zetterholm as Raoul.

Thiago Arancam, Giulia Nadruz, Fred Silveira - Thiago Arancam did not care and I ended up pitying Giulia Nadruz, or really any Christine, opposite him, though especially Nadruz because all the energy she was putting into the role was being wasted on Arancam’s big nothing of a Phantom. She had more chemistry with her Raoul, or really any other Phantom she performed with.
