There’s a theory/headcanon that’s crossed my mind now and again, but I got motivation to talk about it in more detail after giving a comment relating to part of it on @sonicwind-01 recent precious picture of Lucifer bonding with baby Charlie (the comment was over on the twitter posting of it).

Given how traumatized and browbeaten heaven left him, I think when Lulu knew Charlie was on the way, he was a bundle of nerves. In his mind, nothing good ever came from him, so he desperately hopes they take after Lilith (this is operating on the assumption of a basic conception, at this point we just don’t know one way or the other) as much as possible, and has no faith in being a good father. Lilith does try to give him reassurance, but like with much of his other instances of anxiety and depression, it only does so much. Despite his insecurity, he was still very protective and doting. There were times he would gently lay his head over Lilith’s stomach, that gradually became a regular occurrence. It was from this he heart Charlie’s heartbeat for the first time. It was startling, but despite how real it made everything feel, he couldn’t help but feel happy amidst his nerves. Definitely buy into the theory that Lulu, if not both of them, talked and sang to Charlie while she developed, along with cautious rubs, hugs and kisses. First time Lulu did it, he was… apologizing, for cursing this innocent life with him for a father. Despite this, he promises to never let them come to harm, and to never know the hurt he did, regardless of how they turn out. The first time he felt her kick, he thought he did something wrong. Took a while for Lilith to explain and reassure that this was just Charlie’s sole means of reacting/interacting with the world outside, and not her lashing out at him. After that, every movement was a welcome surprise.

Regardless of whether it went d as moth or rough, Charlie’s birth left him a hysterical mess. When things finally quieted down, his time to hold her finally came. He was so so stiff and gingerly as she was handed to him, terrified of doing something wrong and harming her. Getting a chance to finally properly see her, the following thoughts cross his mind: “you have my skin, my cheeks, my hair. *her eyes start opening* oh God, you even have my eyes. You took after me in nearly every way. So why *starts tearing up* are you the most perfect thing I’ve ever seen??!” Cue him bawling like mad, which naturally makes Charlie cry. Lilith, exhausted, looks over at the the 2, and has a pained but genuine chuckle over how she now 2 crying babies in her life to love. After finally processing Charlie’s crying, Lulu would be apologizing like mad while trying to soothe her, eyes still full of tears, a sight that touches Lilith but also spawns more pained laughter.

Hope this left you all a sobbing mess while reading it, cause it sure as heck did to me while writing it!🥲🥹😭
