Antofagasta Ch F: Juan Manuel Cerundolo [8] def. Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 Match Stats
📸 ATP official website
Even though Dani dominantly started the first set from his aggression, Juanma adapted the rhythm to set up the second set afresh, leaving the former less to no options when he dealt with the latter's strokes. As powerful as Juanma looked, he took the ball as early and as deep as possible, which also contributed to some key shot winners. By then, he was able to optimize his chances by converting 56% of his 9 break points, although Dani's first set showing also contributed to his 15 break points.
Despite their occasional service game chaos, Juanma maintained more stable percentage throughout the match. He won 60% of his first serve points, where his sole ace also helped him to get out of some troubles. Somehow, only a little differentiated both players on their second serves (by 1%), with Juanma winning 57% of his second serve points even though both players double-faulted thrice.
This marked Juanma's tenth career Challenger title, his third for this year after the Lima (1) and Santa Cruz (Bolivia) 2 Challengers earlier this year. Propelling his rank back to 154 by the end of the tournament, facing eighth seed Federico Agustin Gomez back home in Buenos Aires (Racket Club), with Dani receiving a Special Exempt to partake in the same event, facing sixth seed Roman Andres Burruchaga in the first round. This tournament could deliver once again!

Los pelambres: One of the largest Chilean copper mine
Los Pelambres Mine! It’s one of the largest copper mines in Chile, located in the Coquimbo Region in the Andes mountains, roughly 200 km north of Santiago. It is operated by Antofagasta PLC, a major Chilean mining company, and it has been producing copper concentrate since the late 1990s.
Los Pelambres is known for its substantial copper and molybdenum reserves, as well as its commitment to sustainable practices, such as water reuse and renewable energy initiatives. The mine faces some significant challenges, including complex rock formations, high altitudes, and water scarcity in the region, which has led to innovations like a pipeline that brings seawater for processing. It’s also noted for its large-scale open-pit operations and advanced infrastructure, which includes one of the longest conveyor belts in mining and a complex system of tunnels and pipelines to transport ore and concentrate.
Los Pelambres hosts a significant porphyry copper-molybdenum deposit, with copper sulfide minerals like chalcopyrite and bornite being the primary sources of copper. It also contains molybdenum as a valuable by-product. The deposit is characterized by mineralization within quartz veins and breccia structures, formed from the intrusion of granodiorite and other igneous rocks associated with the Andean orogeny (mountain-building process).
Los Pelambres is a large-scale open-pit operation with multi-stage blasting and bench mining to extract the ore. Given its high-altitude location, careful attention is paid to slope stability and pit design. The mine processes the extracted ore via crushing, milling, and flotation to produce a high-grade copper concentrate. The molybdenum by-product is separated in a subsequent flotation process. With annual production typically around 350,000–400,000 tonnes of copper, Los Pelambres is one of the largest copper producers in Chile. The molybdenum output is also significant, adding economic value to the operation.
The mine features one of the longest overland conveyor belts in the world, stretching over 12.7 km. This system transports crushed ore from the pit to the concentrator and is a crucial part of reducing truck haulage within the mine. The copper concentrate produced is pumped through a 120-km pipeline to the port of Los Vilos for shipment. This system, which crosses mountainous terrain, minimizes environmental impacts from road transportation. Given the arid environment, water is a critical resource. The mine has implemented extensive water recycling measures, achieving a high recycling rate. Additionally, a pipeline brings seawater from the coast, which is desalinated for use in processing.
The mine’s location at 3,200 meters above sea level poses logistical challenges for transporting materials and maintaining workforce health. Water management remains an ongoing challenge, pushing innovation in desalination and recycling. Los Pelambres has invested in improving its tailings management systems, focusing on both safety and sustainability. Tailings are thickened and stored in a dam, with continuous improvements to address seismic risks in the Andes.

Biden Administration Bans Mining in Boundary Waters Wilderness

Biden Administration Bans Mining in Boundary Waters Wilderness
A 20-year moratorium on new mining activity for more than 225,000 acres of federal land in Minnesota could deal a fatal blow to a proposed Twin Metals copper-nickel mine.
WASHINGTON — The Biden administration on Thursday said it will establish a 20-year moratorium on mining upstream from Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, a vast preserve of lakes and woods that has been at the center of a fierce dispute over a proposed copper and nickel mine.
The plan withdraws from mineral leasing about 225,504 acres of watershed in the Superior National Forest. It could doom a proposed bid from Twin Metals Minnesota LLC, which had sought to build an underground mine in Ely, at the doorstep of the wilderness area. The Biden administration had already canceled the company’s two federal minerals-rights leases, and the new move drastically reduces the chance that the project will be revived.
The company has sued to reinstate the leases, which are critical to its $1.7 billion project, and the moratorium is expected to trigger fresh legal action. Meanwhile Republicans, who now control the House, are seeking to ease federal rules for the mine permitting process, an effort that could also complicate the administration’s plans.
Deb Haaland, the secretary of the Interior Department, signed the moratorium into effect early Thursday. She said in a statement the decision came after scientific review, as well as discussions with local and tribal groups, which concluded mining posed a potential for irreparable harm to the pristine Rainy River watershed, hunting and fishing rights held by the Chippewa tribes, and ecology that has created a $540 million annual outdoor tourism industry in the area.
“Protecting a place like Boundary Waters is key to supporting the health of the watershed and its surrounding wildlife, upholding our Tribal trust and treaty responsibilities, and boosting the local recreation economy,” Ms. Haaland said.
The Biden Administration’s Environmental Agenda
Logging in Alaska: The Biden administration banned logging and road-building on about nine million acres of the Tongass National Forest, North America’s largest temperate rainforest.
A Struggling E.P.A.: Despite an injection of funding, the Environmental Protection Agency is still reeling from an exodus of scientists and policy experts during the Trump administration.
Limits on Soot: The Biden administration proposed to tighten limits on a deadly air pollutant also known as soot responsible for thousands of premature deaths every year.
Hunting Tactics: The National Park Service is moving to prohibit hunters on some public lands in Alaska from baiting black bears with doughnuts and invading wolf dens to kill pups.
Twin Metals, which is owned by Antofagasta, a Chilean mining company, issued a statement saying it was “deeply disappointed and stunned” by the decision.
The mineral deposits “are vital in meeting our nation’s goals to transition to a clean energy future, to create American jobs, to strengthen our national security and to bolster domestic supply chains,” the company said. “We believe our project plays a critical role in addressing all of these priorities, and we remain committed to enforcing Twin Metals’ rights.”
Deb Haaland at a 2021 event. On Thursday she said the mining moratorium “is key to supporting the health of the watershed and its surrounding wildlife” and boosting tourism.Evan Vucci/Associated Press
The moratorium comes at a challenging time for the Biden administration, which is working to significantly increase the use of solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicle and other renewable energy. To accomplish that, the government is trying to create a domestic supply chain of critical minerals like cobalt, lithium and copper. Republicans have said that decisions like canceling leases in Minnesota fly in the face of the administration’s stated goals.
“America needs to develop our vast mineral wealth, right here at home, with high-wage, union-protected jobs instead of continuing to send American taxpayer dollars to countries like the Congo that use child slave labor,” Representative Peter Stauber, who represents northeastern Minnesota, said in a statement. He said China, which dominates the critical minerals industry, will benefit from Mr. Biden’s decision and said the administration “continues to hand our foreign adversaries every advantage possible.”
Minnesota Democrats and environmental groups hailed the decision as the most important land conservation measure in the state in decades.
“This is a huge deal. The Boundary Waters is a crown jewel,” said Becky Rom, national chair of the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters, an advocacy group. Ms. Rom, who lives in Ely, said her organization and others were prepared to fight any lawsuits that challenge the decision.
Representative Betty McCollum, Democrat of Minnesota, who has introduced legislation to permanently prohibit Twin Metals from mining copper and nickel in the Superior National Forest, said the decision “will preserve America’s most visited wilderness area for the next generation.”
Ms. McCollum maintained the area’s pristine freshwater faced likely contamination from heavy metals and sulfuric acid from mine tailings that could have spread through the Boundary Waters’ 1.1 million acres of interconnected lakes and streams.
Republican and Democrat administrations have long battled over the watershed area.
President Barack Obama’s administration initially recommended a 20-year mining moratorium in late 2016, citing the potential environmental risks to the Boundary Waters if copper-nickel mines were allowed to open. The U.S. Forest Service began an environmental review of the proposal. President Trump then reversed that decision and reinstated the leases.
Interior Department officials said Thursday the new moratorium will not affect existing leases.

Excerpt from this press release from the Center for Biological Diversity:
Conservation groups and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management reached an agreement today that requires the agency to revisit its decision to renew 13 prospecting permits. The permits could have allowed Antofagasta’s Twin Metals Minnesota to significantly expand its proposed sulfide-ore copper mine at the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northeastern Minnesota.
The groups filed suit in 2020 to challenge the four-year extension of the prospecting permits. To settle the lawsuit, the BLM has agreed to provide for public comment, conduct an analysis under the National Environmental Policy Act, consult with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service about the plan’s potential harm to endangered species, and then issue a new decision. The BLM also agreed to prohibit any ground-disturbing activities while it reconsiders its decision.
“After the horrendous years of the Trump administration, federal officials now appear focused on rational, science-based decision making,” said Marc Fink, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity. “A thorough scientific analysis of these permits and Twin Metals’ related proposals will show that a massive copper-sulfide mine just upstream from the spectacular Boundary Waters wilderness is simply too great a risk. We’re confident this agreement will help lead to preserving this beloved place for future generations.”
These prospecting permits, along with the company’s mineral leases, are part of Twin Metals’ attempt to create a mining district on the Superior National Forest, just upstream from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Between the company’s leases and permits, a roughly 30-square-mile area is at stake, including rivers, lakes, wetlands and forest that provide critically important habitat for wildlife like moose, wolves and Canada lynx.
“We are fundamentally opposed to the development of a toxic mining district in the watershed of the Boundary Waters,” said Tom Landwehr, executive director of Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness. “As determined by the U.S. Forest Service in 2016, this type of mining is not compatible with retaining the pure and wild ecosystem of the area. Today's agreement is a step in the right direction in returning to good governance and fact-based decision-making."

The setup of the third set became its own rollercoaster once both players tried to find their footing to start, but the consistency only came after they solidified their position to follow up a break later on. Even though Juanma had an advantage through an early break to 1-0 moments after his notable forehand pass, Dani started the next game through a working smash before he struck Juanma's baseline game to break back 1-1.
After two consecutive service game holds, Juanma forced a deuce through a forehand winner before breaking to 3-2, consolidating his position with a service game hold to 4-2 afterward. It took several games later before Juanma almost broke for the match due to Dani's forehand error, but Dani saved it through a forehand winner before securing a massive hold to 5-4. As a result, Juanma had to serve for the match, but an equalizer from Dani's forehand side paved his way before creating a break point, which was neutralized through a drop shot, converting his match point 2 points later (6-4) to secure his championship.

Molybdenum Market to Register a CAGR of 3.8% in Terms of Volume by 2026 | Key Players- Freeport-McMoRan Inc., China Molybdenum Co., Ltd., Compania Minera Dona Ines De Collahuasi S.C.M., Antofagasta plc
Molybdenum is used in various sectors including industrial, aerospace, consumer, medical, energy, agricultural and transportation. Molybdenum is a silvery-white hard metal and possesses the sixth highest melting point of any metal and is commonly used in creating high strength alloys and super alloys. When molybdenum is added to steel and cast iron, it brings many desirable properties to them such as improves the hardness, strength and weld ability. It also elevates the temperature strength of steel and makes it corrosion resistant. When molybdenum is added to nickel-based alloys, it brings high-temperature deformation and gives a high resistance to corrosion.
The APEJ market is expected to dominate the global molybdenum market in terms of volume in 2017, and the trend is projected to grow throughout the forecast period. The APEJ molybdenum market is the most attractive market, growing at a CAGR of 4.1% over the forecast period. The Oil and Gas is one of the large end-use industries in the market, which represents 55,678.1 Mn lb of the market, or 20.9% in 2017, and 80,061.9 Mn lb in 2026, or 21.5%, and a CAGR of 4.1%. It is growing at 4,876.8 Mn lb annually over the course of the forecast period, and this absolute growth is larger than the any other segment.
Download the sample copy of Report with table of contents and Figures @ https://www.futuremarketinsights.com/reports/sample/REP-GB-5643
Molybdenum to Witness High Adoption in the Oil & Gas Industry
Albeit the current cost of oil is low, molybdenum is expected to find a large end use in the oil & gas industry. Increasing investment in capacity, with subsequent oversupply for weak demand has resulted into reduced capital spending on molybdenum-related projects. However, with equilibrating oil market, recovering of prices, and investment returns, a sharp upturn will be observed in the demand for molybdenum for end use in the oil & gas industry.
Preview Analysis of Molybdenum Market: APEJ to Remain Largest & Fastest Expanding Market for Molybdenum: Global Industry Analysis (2012 – 2016) and Opportunity Assessment (2017 – 2026): https://www.futuremarketinsights.com/reports/molybdenum-market
Meanwhile, a relatively faster expansion is projected for molybdenum sales for end use in the chemicals & petrochemicals sector. Revenue from the sale of molybdenum for end use in mechanical engineering and automotive sectors will also account major shares of the market by 2026 end.
APEJ to Remain a Large and Fast-growing Market for Molybdenum
Asia-Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) is considered to be the hub for the production and sale of steel. Robust increase in economic expansion and industrialization in APEJ countries such as India, South Korea, and China has led to rise in infrastructural development in the region, which in turn is propelling the demand for steel and its alloys. As molybdenum forms an integral part of various types of steel, its demand is likely to spur in APEJ. APEJ will continue to be a large as well as fast-growing market for molybdenum.
Europe, followed by North America, is also expected to remain lucrative in terms of growth in the global molybdenum market, however the latter will exhibit a relatively higher CAGR through 2026. Latin America’s contribution to expansion of the global molybdenum market will remain lower during the forecast period.
In terms of revenue, full alloy will continue to be the most lucrative application segment, followed by stainless steel. However, the sale of molybdenum for stainless steel production will register a comparatively faster expansion than that for full alloy through 2026. In addition, catalysts and HSLA will continue to be the fastest expanding applications of molybdenum throughout the forecast period.

Me pasaron muchas cosas.
"Yo no recuerdo nada.

After 7 years, returned again to Kathmandu (1400 mts), the capital of Nepal, it is one of the oldest cities in the world. The first time I was there was in the midst of the strongest earthquake that has occurred in this city and country, and this second time it is for an inspiring challenge, to reach the Everest base camp (5400 meters high) on behalf of my sister Camila and the Down children and youth of Antofagasta, I am sure that each kilometer conquered will be a grain of love and Compassion for them. My first hours show that the chaos of their vehicles, motorcycles and the passerby to survive remains the same or greater, it is a true jungle, but beautiful with its narrow medieval streets and beautiful temple
