I don't understand why Riley apologized to Desi about going after Mac and not telling her. Riley tried to talk to her and Bozer, and she spoke up when Taylor said they were doing a manhunt for Mac. Desi was digging her heals in. She was convinced Mac flipped. Why on earth would Riley tell Desi she knew Mac's location and was going after him when it was clear Desi didn't believe he could be trusted??? Desi would have tried to stop her like she did with Mac. Or she would have gone in with Taylor's private army to stop Mac and Scarlett.

And why is Taylor talking about not trusting Mac after it was clear Mac had not turned. Mac kept telling them all that he hadn't turned and he was trying to stop Phoenix and Codex from taking innocent lives. He kept saying he was trying to figure out what the plan was. And Taylor and Desi repeatedly did not believe him. But he's the one who has to apologize to them? They still question whether he can be trusted? Seems like they are the ones who can't be trusted or relied on. They both flipped on him when he remained loyal the whole time. Meanwhile, Riley remained loyal and trusted him the whole time.

I think Desi and Taylor are the ones who need to earn back trust.

Listen. You are allowed to say to your partner “I realize that you’re sorry for your behaviour but I can’t trust you anymore so we can’t continue our relationship. Certainly we need to take some time apart and start over.”

You are NOT allowed to tell your partner you forgive them but then hold the mistake over their head, keep punishing them for it, bring it up constantly, make them keep apologizing, and otherwise behave like you haven’t forgiven them. You especially can’t keep telling them you forgive them and assure them that you aren’t mad and “this doesn’t have anything to do with that!” when it CLEARLY does.

Anyway, desi was completely unreasonable to Mac in 5.3 and I hate her for it :)

Why in the world did Desi expect Mac to ask her out?! (Yes, I know, plot convenience) Why didn’t she get up off her ass and ask him out? Why complain about not seeing him during the pandemic? Was her phone broken or something? Did all forms of communication get cut off in their version of the pandemic? Why string him along, make him work for it (and suffer in the process) and (eventually, after much convincing) say yes?! If she asked him out, Desi and Mac could’ve both gone a date that suited her.  You know, instead of shitting on every idea Mac had. Homegirl doesn’t get to complain if she’s not going to do jack shit about it. 

This is just another example that shows Desi doesn’t trust, or seemingly like, Mac. 

Good Lord. How much does this man have to suffer?! 

Edit: MacGyver wants to paint its women as badasses (and they are!), but then they write shit like this. I just...don’t. understand.

5X06 review

There is so much to love in this episode!   It’s great to see MacRiley becoming a thing and Bozer was beyond awesome!  Him calling Mac out was painful and beautiful and I can’t wait to see them becoming closer again.  And Russ!  Aw, dear, messed up Russ.   It’s good to learn more about him.  

Mostly though, I just really, really love the Krengles.   All of them.   Their interactions with Mac were funny and heart-warming.   The mission was a lot of fun, something that’s been missing.  

Things I want from MacGyver (the show, not the guy):

1.  I want Mac to never EVER apologize to Desi again.  So done with that noise.

2.  A complete and permanent end to the MacDesi relationship.   Stuff her rules in a dank, dark hole.   They are awful together and it’s painful to watch them.   Seeing them interact just distracts me from enjoying the rest of this awesome show.

3.  More Murdoc.  Obviously.

4.  I want Riley to get all the wonderful things she deserves.  She’s not just smart and heroic.  She is a genuinely good and kind person.  She’s selfless and giving  I love her so much!  

5.  More of the OG trio spending time together, outside of quarantine, rebuilding their bonds.  

6.  People listening to Bozer.  He’s wiser than they know.

Murdoc looks so annoyed at Andrews monologuing. He's literally counting down the minutes until he gets to shoot him. I mean look:

I'm sorry but the whole scene where Murdoc outed Mac going to marry Desi and Riley's feelings for Mac? I cringed. It was hard to watch. Not because of bad writing, I think, but because I felt for the chsracters I little too much. If I was Riley, I probably would've jumped off the building to get away.

Mac using the ring to get through the glass? Yep. Saw that coming. I still love it tho

Andrews having Mac killed to join Codex? No surprise there.

Now, Murdoc actually going to kill Mac, thay was a surprise. One which I don't like. I mean, he had a little speech about Mac being his companion (or something) and a little monologue about their times together (he really cannot get over the wine bottle thing huh) but I still don't stan. We went from Murdoc calling Mac, Uncle Mac and basically saying he's part of the family to having Murdoc attempt murder? What? No. it does not fit.

LEANNA IS DEAD??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 😭😭😭😭 Bozer I am so sorry. They should've brought her back. Now Team Titans is forever lost *sobs*

The confession/MacRiley hug was nice, and it had been coming for awhile. I'm alright with it. However the way the camera cut to Desi when they hugged... I swear if there's more drama I am going to scream.

Desi saying that they can just forget the last 24 hours.. is unhealthy. Mac nearly died in those 24 hours, and ALOT of secrets came up putting tension on the team. They need to talk about this, not just shove it down unhealthily.

Okay so for the last scene, I have to say this first. Mac was drinking, and then he drove to Riley's place?? No. Unless that was the 0 alcohol beer, I don't care Mac you do not drink and drive!!!!!!!! It was not cool of the writers to do this, at all.

Mac's first words to Riley being that he can't forget about the past 24 hours when Desi just said to forget about it aldhskdbsmjxhskshd LOOOOK all the more reason why macdesi cannot work.

Okay so Mac asking Riley if burying her feelings worked makes me want to think thats what he did? And its further supported by the previous scene in ep 6(?) when Mac said they had a moment. Also I forget which ep this was but then they were on the picnic blanket with the telescope.

Second last but not least, DHKAHDKSHDKSHZKS THEY FUCKING TEASED US AKDHSKDHSKHDKSHDJSHDKDHSJDJJSDHJS NOT COOL, WRITERS, NOT COOL AT ALL.

Finally... last episode we acknowledged that Mac was having panic attacks and desperately needed therapy. WHERE DID THAT PLOT LINE GO??? Where is Mac's therapy??? Mhmmmm???? Did it ascend into outer space and then blip into the void????? I am not happy about this. He needs serious help!!! #MacTherapy!!!!!

MacGyver 5x03-Review

MacRiley fam, this will be my last MacGyver review. Thanks for the support and the great feedback on my reviews so far. You guys are awesome! But i’m taking a looong break from this show. I’ll be watching the Jack episode and if we get a Bozer, Matty or Riley centric i’ll tune in to watch. But my passion and excitement for this show is mostly over now.

I have so many things to say about 5x03 but if i start to express all my feelings i’m afraid i might break Tumblr. LOL 

This probably wouldn’t feel like a proper review coz i’m gonna focus on the RETCON that the writers pulled out of their asses to keep MacDesi together.

Ok so for people who are not familiar with the word “retcon”; it means changing an aspect of a fictional work by introducing a piece of new information, typically used to facilitate a dramatic plot shift or account for an inconsistency.

The writers usually pull a retcon, when one aspect of an already canon plot isn’t working well. You can call it a “fix-it” method.

In terms of MacDesi, they retconned some moments from season 4 that defined this relationship. I think the new showrunner and the writers team realized that MacDesi has become quite “toxic” during season 4. But because the additional episodes kept them together, they needed to at least fix this relationship.

From their POV it’s understandable to a degree. But from a viewers POV it’s total BS. Because what we watched in season 4, can’t be changed.

We remember the unhealthy dynamic between them, we remember the lack of trust between them, we remember how incompatible they were, we remember how they couldn’t communicate with each other, we remember Mac not letting her in emotionally, not opening up to her at all, we remember how much they BOTH hurt each other, we remember Mac’s own words on their relationship.

Most importantly we still remember 4x12. How quickly Desi turned her back on him, how she brought his mothers and aunts names into their ugly fight, how Mac said he’d say anything to get her off his back, we remember how she and Russ left Mac no choice but to improvise a plan to save lives, we remember Riley risking everything to protect him and be there for him. WE REMEMBER.

So when you dismiss all of that and re-write MacDesi as if they’re this great couple, it’s not going to work for people. And when you tease MacRiley the whole week with promos, exclusive pictures, articles, SM promotion; promising progress between Mac and Riley only to walk over everything that made them special, you get a lot of NEGATIVE reaction from the fans. With good reason.

Episode started with Mac and Riley on a picnic mission. The scene was amazing in every sense. The colors, lighting, the conversation between them, the almost kiss, the way Mac held Riley and they lied down for a while, the smug smile on his face and the looks he gave to Riley were all awesome! The car chase was super fun too!

But then everything went down the toilet. Coz in the next scene Mac was complaining to Bozer about how Desi wasn’t spending time with him and avoiding his date attempts. In this scene they retconned Bozer too. For the first time, Bozer encouraged Mac to go ask Desi out and fix their relationship.

Normally Bozer would never do such a thing. Why? Bcoz he’s been against a romantic relationship between them ever since Desi first showed up in 3x14. Bozer thought it was a bad idea from the start, called them Mesi (messy), he didn’t think it was a good idea to bring Desi back on the team in 4x01, coz MD break up was NUCLEAR. So up until 5x03 Bozer was never on Team MacDesi. Lets also remember this exchange between them:

In 4x12 when Bozer was trying to save Mac and Riley’s lives, he turns to Desi... 

Bozer: Desi, back me up here.

Desi: Sometimes we need to sacrifice the things we love for the greater good.

So after 4x12, one would only expect that his thoughts on MD would get stronger. But guess what? Bozer is now supporting MD. Just like that. I don’t buy it writers, sorry.

Back to the scene… Mac wants to go on a date with Desi. And he is so desperate about it. We had to witness one of the most awkward scenes between them. Not only that but we had to sit through Riley throwing smiles at MD, saying her feelings for Mac was just Codex adrenaline. Riley, who couldn’t watch any interaction between MD, is now totally cool with them!

And lets just say that Riley was pretending she’s over Mac, that she lied to Bozer bcoz she’s trying to move on. We already watched her having feelings for Mac, hiding those feelings and pining for him. Her one-sided love can’t drive the plot anymore. 

Besides she didn’t need to give her blessings to MD. It was an overkill. I really hated the scene where she says “Don’t screw up this time” to Mac…That was totally out of character for Riley.  

Riley who reminded Desi that Russ & her were gonna nuke them,

Riley who said she went after Mac coz she trusted him &asked Desi "Why didn't you?",

Riley who risked it all to protect Mac, tells Mac not to screw it up with Desi.

By saying those words, Riley makes it known that Mac was the one screwing up his rl with Desi. Desi had no fault. Once again the writers used my favorite character to prop my least favorite character. Shame on you!

I’m not gonna talk about every MacDesi scene in this episode. But let me just say that the writers turned Mac into a desperate, begging, lovesick puppy. He asked Desi for a date like 5 times, apologized twice. Kissed her out of the blue. Bcoz lets face it, that scene was so unnecessary. Nobody was onto them, the police car was passing by slowly and if the police were really suspicious, why would they look at the couple kissing instead of checking who’s in the car? So stupid. Oh and while they were kissing for minutes with great lighting and all, General Ma escaped. Mac acting this stupid, is not something we are used to see. But what you gonna do? I guess love is not only blind but also destroyes brain cells in the process.

Anyway, Mac literally begging Desi to go on a date with him was agonizing to watch. Every time he offers a new dating idea, Desi’s answer is NAH. Back in the picnic scene she made it sound like she wanted to date Mac, but of course she needs to make him suffer first!

I only like to point out the scene where Mac –finally- opened up to Desi about the fishing trip he and his father went together. This story is obviously precious to him. He called it a happy memory. Clearly he misses his father, still mourning for his loss. So he shared his happy memory and asked if she would like to go fishing with him. Desi’s answer? “Not gonna go fishing with you as our first date!” You can read the dissapointment on his face. And my heart breaks for Mac but this kind of treatment is something he’s asking for.

He is desperate to get Desi back. The fact that they are the worst match ever, doesn’t change sh*t. Mac wants Desi and he loves Desi for god knows why.

Btw- the whole “lets blame only Mac for Codex and ignore Desi’s wrongdoings” plot is disgusting. Yes, Mac suffocating Desi and Russ to escape Phoenix with Scarlett was wrong. Yes he hurt her, yes in a sense he betrayed her. AND HE APOLOGIZED. But what about Desi? What about her betrayel? 

First they made Riley apologize to Desi for following Mac and now they made Mac apologize… But no apologies from Desi. The writers are obviously worshipping Desi and they’re ready to sacrifice every character to make her look “perfect”. I’m sorry but i’m not here to watch the Desi show, or more MacDesi nonsense.

Mac said Desi is the woman he loves… but not only that, she is also the woman who guided him back. And the RETCON is really strong with this scene.

Lets remember…

In 4x08 Mac loses his father, at the end of the episode Desi wants to go with Mac but Mac stops her, telling he’d see her tomorrow.

In 4x09 Desi says he can share his burden with her, Mac’s not interested, he says what he needs is to stop Codex.

In 4x10 Mac makes apocalypse kits for Riley and Desi. Desi’s so happy she got a crossbow and didn’t think those kits were a bad sign. But Riley notices that Mac is not in a good place, he needed help and support. Riley shares her concerns about Mac with Desi. She probably thinks it’s not up to her to be the one doing that when Desi is the girlfriend. So after her conversation with Riley, Desi makes soup and gives Mac a compass. Saying he’s not lost (he clearly was tho). She askes if everything’s ok, he looks different but Mac says, he’s just tired.

In 4x12 Mac is lying in bed, lost in his own mind, he gets up, leaves the compass on her side of the nightstand… On the run he ignores Desi’s calls.

Then things get really ugly for MacDesi. Desi says “You are so drunk on somescrewed-up cocktail of your mom, your aunt, Codex science...”… She says “You're compromised”…  Mac was just trying to get Scarlett on their side to stop Codex but Desi couldn’t see it. She thought Mac was losing it!

And then Desi sides with Russ and turns her back on Mac. Russ dismisses Mac from the Codex mission. Mac's forced to improvise. Bcoz he wants to stop Codex without bloodshed.

So as you can see they completely re-wrote the events of 4x12 to fix MD.

Desi says: “I had front-row seats to the war that raged in you last year, and I can't do that again. Lose you.”

She was ready to sacrifice him for the greater good. But yeah, sure! Why not.

Mac says: “Des, I know it looked like I was lost, but you were there the whole time, guiding me back home.”

THE WHOLE TIME.

In 3 times she “tried” to be there for him, Mac didn't let her in emotionally but lets just say that she brought him back to his senses.

Lets just say that the compass he left on her side of the nightstand represents that it guided him back. (btw lets also ignore that the compass Mac gave Desi back was a different one. Who knows, maybe he threw it in the garbage during the pandemic and bought a new one)

Lets just forget who really brought him back. Lets just ignore what Riley did for Mac. How she saved him, how she was the one who risked everything for Mac. How she was the one there by his side when they were facing a missile.

Only if we forget and retcon history we can all buy MacDesi. 

But i can’t… I can’t forget, i’m not ok with a retconned half-ass love story that they want to sell with MD. I can’t sit through the episodes and keep watching the “flawless Desi” show.

This show isn’t entertaining to me anymore. I can’t recognize Mac, i’m pissed that my fav characters are being used as tools to prop Desi.

One last thing before i say my final goodbyes:

The lighting in this episode was so weird. In almost every scene, heavy light effects distracted me. Usually they use it when they show you a flashback, a dream or a hallucination to seperate the real-time scenes from others. But this episode had them from the start to the end. So i don’t know what to make of this.

Some of the dialogues had subtexts…

Leland to Russ: Now, I know you don't care about much in this world, but even the best of us can be blinded by those we love.

General Ma to Mac: I was blinded by him (Leland) once. I-I won't be blinded again.

Mac: Many things blind us. Anger, betrayal, even love. But sometimes, a little blindness can work to your advantage. You can create a fog that will cause the world around you to disappear.

Normally i would dive deep into the subtextland. But i don’t think the writers were trying to give some deep message or anything. 

I do believe that Mac is totally blinded by his “idea” of love… But i’m done waiting for him to open his eyes. The Mac i watched in this episode is not My Mac.

Writers made their choice. They made Mac's feelings crystal clear. He's all about Desi. At this point, Desi breaking up with him would mean nothing to me. Just like Riley still having feelings for Mac means nothing anymore.

Official accounts tweeting “There’s more to come for MacRiley” means nothing to me anymore.

Noone wants a rebound plot but unfortunately it's the only possibility they left to MacRiley. My ship is tainted forever. 

And as a Riley stan, i don’t want this Mac with my girl. She deserves better.

Every new episode of Macgyver I watch makes me hate desi more. I jumped on the Macgyver train late and I was sort of biased against desi from the beginning, having seen what other people said about her. But she just continues to exceed my expectations in the worst way possible.

The first time we see her, she breaks into his house when he’s vulnerable and practically naked. She spent a decent portion of the conversation looking up and down his body, which is weird. It’s not instant chemistry or early attraction because he looks annoyed at best. Then she commented on how much he’s wearing and like mocking him for being in a towel in his own house after a shower? He was clearly uncomfortable and it felt very much like sexual harassment.

In 3:16 they’re on a mission that’s emotional and personal for Mac. She asks him about his feelings, then immediately tells him to shove it in a box and stop being a baby. Because “needed him to get it out of his system.” She doesn’t care about his feelings, she was just asking because she felt he needed managing and she was the only one around. It feels very mocking, manipulative, condescending, and insensitive.

In 3:17 they need to act out a fight. He starts trying to actually ACT it out without hurting desi and she turns around and smacks him in the face. I’ve seen the fandom play it off as a feminist thing almost? Like “Mac doesn’t want to hurt fragile little desi and she sure shows him!” but there was no need for them to actually hurt each other. After like the 4th time she’s hit him, shoved him against the wall, let him smack into things dragging him etc, he starts hitting back and then they play it off as sexy banter. I don’t think lack of care for other people is cute or sexy. Sure he can take it, but he obviously doesn’t like it so why should he have to? He even comments on it, and she plays it off “little enthusiastic, don’t you think?/just getting into character.” He can’t stop everything and be like wait!!! I have a boo boo! That he’s mentioning it at all shows he doesn’t like it. She’s either just totally careless with him or she enjoys hurting him.

It’s hard to say because of high speed chases, but I feel like when she’s driving, we get lots of shots of Mac sliding around and crashing into things when she takes sharp turns then looking annoyed. I feel like we never had shots like that when Jack was driving. It’s just a little thing that bothers me but it feeds into my impression that she doesn’t care if he gets knocked around.

She also just like. Constantly criticizes, mocks, and berates him. In 4:2 post break up, Mac tries to be professional and she just takes every opportunity to dig at him. I hate that she ADMITS that she lied to him all through their relationship (“when we started dating you said you liked the body spray/I said a lot of things I didn’t mean”). He’ll dig back but he never starts it. She mocks his interests and is super dismissive when he starts geeking out over something.

During missions, she bitches at him to fix all the problems and puts so much pressure on him. Then he does come up with a miraculous solution and she’s so critical of his plan. Then she blames him for the problems caused by his absolute last resort do-it-or-we-die solution. Like wow desi, I’m sorry the sat phone is broken, he used it to make an electromagnetic to disarm a nuclear bomb (I made that up as an example). All the other team members tease Mac, but it feels way different and he looks upset after desi does it.

Also like. When his plan doesn’t make sense to her and she’s stressed, she says “don’t make me punch you, Mac!” that totally sounds like the start of physical abuse. If not a pattern. How often does she say that? Did she threaten to punch him when they were dating whenever he did something she didn’t like?

I haven’t gotten to the Mac’s secret project stuff yet, but I’ve seen enough posts to indicate stalking, emotional manipulation, physical abuse, and a complete lack of trust. That seems to me like a culmination of the behaviour we’ve seen from her since the beginning. It’s fine when she lies to Mac, withholds information to manipulate him, mocks his vulnerability but God Forbid he keep one thing from her or do something that doesn’t make perfect sense to her.

I hate in 5.3 when she is brings up knocking people unconscious, and he looks so devastated when he says “I thought you forgave me” and she assures him that she did. Except when you tell someone you forgive them, you don’t hold it over their heads.

Then during the quarantine episode, she goes “I got your very… VERY long apology for everything.” Like she criticizes him constantly for not apologizing enough then is weird and passive aggressive that he wrote out a thoughtful apology? Especially since she criticized him using Phil collins lyrics to apologize previously. Does she just not want to accept? Strikes me as a power thing to keep him constantly apologizing.

I hate that she bitches about not going on dates, not only rejects his ideas but belittles them all while refusing to suggest any of her own. Sounds like she doesn’t actually want to connect with him, just punish him and make it his fault.

She’s so mean to him ALL THE TIME but seems to constantly be mad about something that he’s supposedly done. I wouldn’t stay dating someone who I was constantly mad at or feeling betrayed by. It seems to me like she gives and withholds affection to keep Mac dependent on her and to punish him for bad behaviour, just like his dad!

She is definitely emotionally abusive and manipulative. I believe she’s physically abusive. We don’t see her hit to really hurt him on screen, but we’ve seen that she can take him in a fight so she could actually physically hurt him if she wanted to. Are all her smacks her reminding him of that?

I would tolerate desi as a character if it wasn’t for her wildly toxic relationship with Mac. It’s nice to see physically capable female characters, angry female characters, poc main characters, characters with tattoos that aren’t considered unprofessional, we love it. Her emotional callousness could be an opportunity for a character growth arc. But I just hate how she treats Mac being played off as sexy banter or romance!

@febuwhump MacGyver Mini-Masterlist

Since 10/28 of my fanfics for febuwhump are in the MacGyver fandom, I thought I'd make a list with just those:

Day 7: Poisoning 2.2k G

Riley gets poisoned, and half the team is out of commission. Jack is gone, and Mac can’t lose Riley too. He just can’t, he’ll break. He teams up with Murdoc to find the cure for Riley.

Day 8: "Hey, hey, this is no time for sleep!" 1.7k T

Mac groans as he wakes up. There’s a throbbing in his head, and the light is too bright. He grumbles a bit and tries to roll over and push his face into the bed, underneath his pillow but something stops him. He groans again and pulls at his arms, but pain flashes through his wrists.

Mac opens an eye and squints at his wrist. It takes his eye a few moments to adjust to the lightning, but when it does he spots a plastic zip tie around his wrist.

“Hey, hey, MacGyver, this is no time for sleep, boy scout!”

Murdoc.

His drawling voice rings through the air, and Mac is suddenly fully awake, his heart thumping furiously in panic and fear.

Day 10: "I'm sorry, I didn't know." 2.5k G

My take on the scene where Desi complains about 'not being in the loop' when Mac left to infiltrate codex. Riley informs Desi that she didn't know either. She just knew that she trusted Mac.

Day 13: Hidden Injury 3.5 G

“Hmm… he does look a bit familiar, but I think I’ll need a little something to jog my memory.”

“What do you want, Murdoc?” MacGyver asks. “You have supervised calls with Cassian and we can’t risk giving you any items. We both remember how that ended last time.”

Murdoc grins. “My, my boy-scout, you’ve been keeping tabs on me? I’m flattered!”

MacGyver snorts, amused. “Of course, I got you here. Why wouldn’t I pay attention?”

Suddenly someone new walks into the room.

Murdoc goes to issue a greeting, but the way MacGyver reacts stops the words in his throat. MacGyver is no longer smiling. His expression closes off and he seems to curl into himself.

MacGyver flinches.

Murdoc sees red.

Day 15: "Run. Don't look back." 3.9k T

Y'all know how the small gremlins need secondary emergency contacts when they go to school/school trips? Imagine Murdoc puts Mac down as Cassian's secondary contact, not thinking that the school will ever use it.

One day Cassian gets sick or hurt or something and they call Murdoc but he's occupied (aka in the middle of murdering someone) so they call Mac and he picks up.

"Mr. MacGyver, your nephew Cassian got a stomach ache. We're gonna need you to come and pick him up."

Day 16: Broken Bones 2.1k T

The cold, frigid water all around her pulls and pushes, threatening to pull her down to her death, but Riley keeps on swimming towards the lifeboat. She knows she has to get on that lifeboat. If she doesn’t - the water is too cold. She’ll die of hypothermia. Finally- finally, her hand touches the side of the lifeboat.

Riley drags herself foot by foot onto the lifeboat, before rolling over and collapsing on her back. She looks around the lifeboat. She’s alone. There’s no sign of Mac, Bozer or Cage. The lifeboat bobs in the waves, and Riley sees a still figure lying face down, head in a puddle.

Lifeless.

The lifeboat rocks with the waves, and blond hair glints in the moonlight.

(Don't worry, everybody lives).

Day 19: Sleep Deprivation 2.6 T

As revenge for destroying Codex, Rowan traps Mac in a room with no exit and tortures him. Mac starts hallucinating Jack.

Day 21: Identity Reveal 1.0k T

A happy twist on S05E05: who is the landlord? (Hint, everyone lives!)

Jack is dead. It doesn’t make any sense. Jack is the best, he’s one of the most talented agents that Mac has ever known. How could he be dead?

A few days later Mac goes through the mail until “Ozzie Uric” brings him out of his thoughts. He checks the stamp. It’s dated two days after the funeral.

Mac practically throws himself out the door and books it to the phoenix.

Is Jack still alive?

(Yes he is).

Day 26: Recovery 4.3k T

Coda to 5x05. Mac and Riley go through the five stages of grief after Jack's death.

Mac can’t breathe. He knows what it is, but he doesn’t want to see it because seeing it will make it real and Mac can’t deal with the fact that Jack is -

The man opens his hands and Mac sees Jack’s dog tags.

His world crumbles to pieces.

Day 27: "I wish I had never given you a chance." 3.2k T

Mac realizes that he doesn't have to keep on apologizing to Desi. Also, he finds and rescues a long lost friend (Jack).

Look it’s not that I don’t feel sorry for Desi.  I do.  Losing your fiance that way would be traumatizing.  BUT.

That does not excuse her behavior towards Mac!!

Notice how Desi has NEVER said she loves Mac, though he has said he loves her several times?   She is, however unintentionally, stringing him along.   If she doesn’t know what she wants, she needs to STEP AWAY.   She knows how Mac feels or thinks he feels and that she isn’t ready for that.  Possibly isn’t even interested in that.   But, she keeps giving him hope, possibly false hope.  

I’m sorry, but that is horribly selfish of her.   She doesn’t get to toy with his emotions, because she can’t figure her own out.   And, she’s had more than enough time to get her act together and make some important decisions.  

She may be badass in the field, but mentally and emotionally...she’s pretty weak and Mac is paying a heavy price for it.   Granted, a lot of that is on him.   He’s so determined to make this relationship work that he’s allowing a lot of unacceptable behavior.    

I personally can not wait for this relationship to end.  I want to go back to re-watching eps over and over again, because they’re fun and engaging.  Right now, I watch once to keep up with things, then never again to avoid the cringe.

I'm going to be completely honest here:

I've never been pro-MacDesi.

But I really like her character, she is an angry woman. I get that. Sometimes I like to hit things too, it releases the frustration with systems instead of taking it out on the wrong people and as a racial minority and a woman in the military she has a lot to be angry at. It's useful to her, its safe and can be healthy.

Just not with Mac, the immediate attraction between the two? understandable, we see and work with people we find attractive all the time, but that doesn't mean you mesh well in a romantic sense. I never felt like they did, the high emotions of life and death on their missions just dialed attraction up and the adrenaline of showing off (cause you know they each have their own version of a competency kink).

The only reason the exact same didn't happen with Riley (and it was a total possibility) is because Mac had just gotten burned by Nikki, and each of their connection to Jack.

Well. That episode was miserable BUT ONCE AGAIN DESI GOES AND SHOWS US HOW TOXIC SHE IS.

Let me explain.

Right after we find out that Jack dies, Desi and Bozer talk about how Macs handling it while opening some beer. Desi acknowledges that Mac "is bottling it up... and until then there's beer."

So let's get this straight.

Your boyfriend just lost his partner, his best friend, and you see him struggling. You see him bottling up his emotions because he's drowning in them.

And what do you do?

Nothing.

You give him beer.

You give him alcohol to cope.

The key is in her words. Until " he'll feel how deep the wound is... there's beer." I can't even begin to verbalize how toxic she's being, and how angry I am.

Thank goodness Riley is there to actually grieve properly and healthily with him, regardless of the nature of their relationship.

Why ‘Mesi’ is Not Good

(Not MacDesi friendly. Not really Desi supportive either.)

1 – That introduction. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, sneaking up on someone that you have never met, when they are naked, is *at best* sexual harassment. Would “Derek” be able to do this to “Amanda”?

2 – She was so bitchy when she first met them. It makes sense that they wouldn’t be BFF’s immediately, but she basically say’s she won’t be friends and not to slow her down. (At least she got better about that).

3 – We find out that between season 3 and 4 Desi and Mac actually did go out and found that they did not work together. That’s normal, but when Mac askes for help she get really bitter and starts pointing out horrible “flaws” in a very high-school manner. Also, in the flash back scene, we see her getting annoyed at Mac when he’s excited about something she considers trivial.

4 – They spend most of the first part of season 4 bitching at each other. (I could be remembering wrong, but Mac doesn’t start it often. He’ll retaliate but he rarely goes on the offensive.) They then inexplicably get back together.

5 – {Bridging season 4 and 5} Mac seems to go over to Codex when the others won’t listen to his plan and Desi clearly believes he’s turned traitor. In season 5 Desi is holding this over Mac, making him apologize for everything and withholding forgiveness and affection [Signs of emotional abuse now.]

6 – When Jack “dies” (I’m still pretending this didn’t happen) Desi and Bozer have a conversation about Mac handling it and Desi even says he’ll eventually break down but rather than talking to him attempts to get him drunk to deal with it. When Mac does break down he seeks privacy, and when he does talk it’s to Riley indicating that he doesn’t trust Desi with this.

7 – During the quarantine episode, Desi wants him talking to her all the time away from the others. [Isolating behavior, another sign of abuse.]

8 – Snake episode. Mac didn’t trust Desi enough to tell her what he was really doing (not a good sign). And Desi didn’t believe what he said, which is iffy [Did he act out of normal and give a reason to disbelieve or is she looking for things to punish him for?]. Rather than actually asking she stalks him to catch him out on his lie (Stalking being yet another sign of abuse)

At it’s absolute best this is a toxic relationship, where one side is all take, which could eventually develop into physical and even sexual abuse (see point 1). At worst this is already an abusive relationship.

This is actually kind of sad from the writers because Desi could have been such a great character. Disregarding that horrible introduction that character had a lot of potential, especially as female and (incidentally) a ‘minority’ character. Like another person said, it’s almost like the writer’s want people to dislike Desi.
