i am genuinely tweaking over the fact that macgyver (2016) practically glosses over the fact that Mac was straight up!!! Lying!!!! to bozer for YEARS.

this would have been such good material to use to explore Mac and Bozer's relationship, and how complex the situation was bc YES it feels like a betrayal but it's also Mac simply protecting Bozer from his dangerous life and still keeping him close despite the danger, despite the very real possibility of bozer accidentally finding out or simply using bozer to get to Mac.

NOT TO MENTION. Boze was Mac's only link to something not remotely related to his job!!! the only bit of normal in his chaotic life!!!!

both of them having to find their footing again after the reveal bc nothing can go back to normal. like. bozer thinking back to all the weird injuries mac returned home with from his think tank business trips, all the lies, all the secrecy, all the time. justified hurt on bozer's side as well as understanding bc if the roles were reversed wouldn't bozer also lie to keep his closest friend safe? understanding the reason doesn't make the years of lies hurt any less.

I was aiming for a flashfic so I could finish it before the Olympics actually ended. It got a tag bit longer. But! Deadline MET!

So. I'm rewatching Macgyver (2016) S1 while working on the fam's Christmas presents and I need to put this out here.

I love Ep. 8 Corkscrew. Of course I do. We get introduced to Murdoc, there's tension and angst and an openly worried Jack. It's great. There's just the tiny little fact that in the overarching plot the episode makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER! And it's bugging me. So much.

Now. At the point in time the episode is set, it does work. Murdoc gets hired to kill Mac and team. Supposedly by Nikki. Then Nikki claims the shady organisation in the background hired him instead. Sure. Both can be accepted as possibilities.

But not with the knowledge that we gain later in the season when we learn that Nikki is a super secret triple crossing deep undercover agent working to uproot the Organisation. Which is led by Thornton. The same Thornton who was shot by Murdoc to proof a point. The same Thornton who was part of the killer's contract.

And that's where my brain just gos WTF?! How is this supposed to make any sense???

Let's talk this through step by step.

Murdoc gets hired to kill Mac, Jack, Riley and Thornton.

If Nikki is playing for the good guys and had to set a killer on her former team to keep her cover, then it's damn cold to hire the best of the best. Never mind the whole song and dance about how she insists it wasn't her.

If the Organisation hired Murdoc, then why was Thornton part of the contract?! Why did she get shot and not Jack who would pose the bigger threat in the junkyard. We get told that Thornton leads the Organisation. So she put a contract on herself??? Why? It would have been entirely believable if the contract was only on the field agents.

It makes no sense! Especially considering that in Ep. 7, right before this, they set up El Noche as a big bad and even explicitly state that he put a prize on Mac's head. It would have been so easy to tie these two incidents together. Instead we get two options that both lack any kind of logic.

This really annoys me.

Summary: When Jack gets a call from an old friend, Matty Webber, telling him about a job opportunity with an organization called ‘DXS’, he isn’t sure what to expect. What he doesn't expect is being hired as the partner of the top agent - also the son of Director James MacGyver. Jack navigates getting to the bottom of what’s going on with his new partner when it seems like what looked like arrogance and nepotism might be something more dangerous. Along the way Riley and Bozer are brought in to Operation Investigate Our Boss to try and get to the bottom of what’s wrong and DXS and who is to blame.
