The exploitation and colonization of Vacuo 80+ years ago was a crucial part of Atlas' domination in technology and Dust production, as well as the monopoly that the Schnee Dust Company controlled.

I wanted to make this its own post and add some stuff.

Miles and Kerry are the reason Rwby went to shit and Rwby stans refuse to acknowledge it because they see these two white men as their gods. They even go out of their way to downplay Monty's part in his own creation by reducing him as "the animator who does cool fights," while giving majority of the credit to these two wackadoos.

They don't want to admit they prefer Miles and Kerry's version of rwby, because they also have to admit it's no longer Monty's work post vol 3 and on top of that, Miles and Kerry's version of "Rwby" sucks ass. Thats why they're hellbent on the "Monty planned everything since the beginning and Miles and Kerry totally knows his vision" while at the same minimize Monty as the creator in the same breath.

This is also why they are terrified of Dillion buying the rights to rwby when they found out Shane works with him and is close friends with him. They spent years slandering Shane as nothing more than a "bitter and disgruntled ex employee" when he released his letter because they don't want to believe their "besties," their "fam," they're "little meow meows" in crwby could possibly be terrible people. I mean, why would anyone ever lie about themselves on the internet guys??? /S

They purposefully "forgot" about the abuse scandals that were exposed once again just two years ago and are thanking Rooster Teeth for the fond memories. They're thanking the people they saw on that live stream because thats all who they care about. The animator who had to endure crunch time with little to no pay, who found out through twitter they no longer have an job? Who cares about them? They're a nobody. Miles and Kerry are not nobodies, they're celebrities on Youtube and in RT. That's who the rwby stans truly care about.

Do not let CRWBY deter you.

The current FNDM situation involving Volume 9 Episode 6 needs no introduction, by now, y'all know what happened and how pissed most everyone is in the following episode at recent character actions. Who can blame them?

But after scouring some RWBY-related forums and channels, I have to say that I'm almost not surprised by how disheartened everyone is rather than enraged. Well, there are folks who are angry, but what really shocks me is how everyone is more sad and disappointed rather than pissed off.

Anyway, with my point being made, let's cut straight into it: Don't let RWBY's latest controversy deter you from criticizing this show. And to any fanfic writers, fan-artists or general content creators who still write RWBY fanfiction, don't let the events of this episode or CRWBY's "planned from the start" mantra make you feel bad. 

That's exactly what they want to make themselves feel like they're being smart about this to flex on us, the beleaguered critics of this show.

Perhaps then, this isn't the right sub for this kind of rallying cry. But rather, the kind of post to motivate creators of fan content who have been burned out, and it seems like the Wasps and other toxic elements of the FNDM have won.

We should not let CRWBY win either. They got the last laugh in deciding the events to canonize a controversial ship, but we should resist their efforts to dominate the FNDM discussion as we have more power than them, we can still write our own fanfics, our own alternate universes, rewrites, whatever else.

Do not let CRWBY's idiocy deter you. They started this shipping war, and the only way to resist that is to let them know that you will ship whoever you please, however if fits within YOUR narrative. Not Rooster Teeth's. If you give in, then Miles, Kerry, Eddy and Kiersi wins.

Arryn Zech wins.

Barbara Dunkelman wins.

Where they've successfully demoralized you. You have more creativity than those braying jackasses ever will. Continue writing fanfiction. Continue drawing art. Do not let CRWBY deter you.

Why do you think Ironwood was turned out to be the antagonist of vol 8? And why is he getting so much hate fron the fandom (besides shooting Oscar)?

I vaguely remember that M*les wanted to write Ironwood in V7 as a hero falling into villainy with his decisions and acting as the main characters' opposition during their stay in Atlas, which is a trope that we've seen before.

But unfortunately, Ironwood was written too well as a complex character while the MCs are still being fucking goobers, which made that whole plan go to shit because, "oh wow, the audience actually REALLY like Ironwood! But why?? He's the villain! Let's have him shoot a child in the sternum so they can finally see that!"

It's a fucking narrative dissonance and further highlights their incompetence as writers, and we've seen this before with the WF story line where the people fighting back against an oppressive world should be seen as villains because they didn't nicely ask for their rights back. Ironwood is a villain because god fucking forbid he actually act like a general, HIS FUCKING JOB, in the face of a crisis while our protags dick around drinking tea and giving classified info to a federal burglar.

The FNDM ate it up because they do not have two brain cells to rub together and realize that they're being duped by the writers, and the further demonization of Ironwood in V8 was enough of evidence to them that he's always been evil, EVEN THOUGH IT'S SO OBVIOUS THAT THE WRITERS ARE SCRAMBLING TO JUSTIFY HIS DOWNFALL AT THEIR HANDS.

Ironwood isn't fucking evil from the get go, the writers fucked up and tried to back track on their own character. But because of this, the stannies begin to call Ironwood a fascist, a groomer (because of Winter which is another can of worm), as well as ableist fucking comments about him because of his prosthetics and even calling him white, even though his VA and design model is Asian. Ironwood is designed to look like an ASIAN MAN, and him having prosthetics doesn't equate to him being less human. But this FNDM is gross.

I always find it so funny when Rwby stans accuse rwde/rwby critics of hating women and yet are at the ready to defend their favorite mediocre, bumbling white boi Jaune Arc. Whenever we bring up how he's prioritized over not just Ruby Rose but all of team Rwby, the stans deflect by saying "Jaune is just as important as team Rwby! He's also a main character!" Yeah, he's treated as THE main character while the characters whose team name is the title of the show are nothing more than glorified mascots.

The show overall has issues of trying to juggle too many characters since vol 1. But Jaune, while not very good development, has been given consistent development throughout the show. Meanwhile Ruby has been pushed to the background, until vol 6 when dumb and dumber (Kerry and Miles) remembered Ruby is supposed to be the main character and decided to make up for it by making her into a fucking Mary Sue and then into Remnant Jesus

A very annoying petty nitpick I had harbored within me when it came to the V9 commentary track:

The writers trying to push that Older Jaune is hot.

He is not.

After a while, I think they were trying to push the idea of "hot older Jaune" because of the reception people had for Ironwood's looks in V7. Ironwood is a hot guy with a dad-bod, one of the few handsome characters they've made, and it was pointed out a lot.

But because Ironwood is supposed to be hated, they decided to push that attraction onto Jaune when they made him middle-aged. The thing is though: 1) Jaune becoming an old man makes no sense, and 2) it didn't matter because they de-aged him by the end of V9.

Well tough tits, CRWBY, but old man Jaune is not hot. He's annoying and I hate him as much as I still hate young Jaune, and trying to say he is hot is kinda cringe, bro.

So many times we've seen Ruby actually having a hint of character depth and progression, here comes Jaune with his fucking perspective and his pain and his moment and his character coming in to completely bulldoze any of that fucking growth Ruby might have. Because it's not about Ruby or her experience, it's Jaune's turn.

Regarding the "Does RWBY like women?" poll (yes, yes it does BTW).

You know... the whole poll debacle reminded me of something.

RWBY helped me expand my media diet by telling me that just because people hate something enmass, it could just all be bullshit coupled with mob mentality.

Instead of hatedoms getting me to think:

"Damn, I don't even wanna be associated with that show based on the rage it inspires."

My more skeptical brain is like:

"Okay, so why is it reeeeeeeally hated? Is it reeeeeeeally bad or are people going along with the crowd because critical thinking is too much of a burden in this capitalist hellscape?"

Because bad media literacy is in part a result of the fact that most geeks and normies alike aren't out to be legit critics but rather just want to enjoy the thing, gush about the thing and so forth. They can't exactly articulate their reasonings why like they're trying to get an A+ in Therapy Studies.

And THAT is how the YouTube Video Essay and Angry Critic scene takes off.

We dunk on the Nostalgia Critic (often for VERY real IRL grievances) but his catchphrase: "I remember it so you don't have to" is something many who'd come after would take to heart. These video maker people are taking about a thing you like and are explaining it in a way you not only agree with but makes you feel vindicated.

Be it for love... or for hate.

Because hatedom circles like the RWDE looks to video essays that reassure them, keep them from doubting their stance on the thing and how they enforce it.

With the burden of actually seeing the thing and thinking hard taken off of them, people can confidently say things like "RWBY prioritizes Jaune" despite not looking at any potential evidence in the show that might contridice it.

Which is why this is a call for everyone to question the popular opinions.

Does Jaune Arc reeeeeeally get that much narrative importance at the expense of the main girls?

Was Jaune reeeeeeeally a self-insert?

Was Ironwood reaaaaaally derailed in his character arc?

Was Adam reeeeeeeeally representative of the Faunus?

Was the Faunus reaaaaaally offensive?

And of course...

Was Monty Oum reeeeeeeeally the only one who's vision matter to the show above all else?

Ask yourself these questions and do the work to back them up. If people are giving you responses that contridict you, responses that take evidence from the work itself more often than not, then try to do the same in turn.

Think about that show or movie being panned? What if... you actually like it?

Not everybody is a critic... but we can at least try to.
