in a way, sauron x galadriel is a shipper's dream.
first of all, i love how everything about their story is so connected that it's difficult to pick a favorite haladriel moment as it feels like no scene can be seen as separate, each moment informs the other and gives it a significance, creating one big web of intertwined parallels in a tight narrative that's essentially a metaphor for the eternal push-pull of the light & the darkness.
(but if i had to choose favorites, i would say haladriel on the ship + "brought to its' knees to worship the light of its' queen". this line encapsulates their bond perfectly and it feels like this thought occured to him on that ship.)
insane chemistry and their soulmatism not knowing any bounds in trop aside, the context of trop!haladriel opens the door for interpretation and speculation about their post-trop relationship within trop continuity.
they mind-communicate for 3000+ years; he gropes ever to see her, and even if gal can close her door on him, she herself wanders around his mind from time to time. and they do all that while seeing each other from their balconies.
and we know they are doomed but are they really doomed forever when they are immortal? galadriel takes nenya to valinor and while it represents her leadership and fight, with trop it also symbolizes her connection to sauron. she even recites the very first thing he ever told her after she rejects the one ring, with sadness in her tone. sauron never stops trying to see her and, with trop context, wanting her to be his queen. uniting trop + other canons, it wouldn't be wrong to say they never get over each other.
so i say give them some time and they will somehow sort it out after like a billion years. valinor reunion not so impossible when the time frame is all eternity.
immortality + eternity = the landscape of this ship being infinite.
+ there is no set canon in legendarium, it's a living mythology that's told as a historic retelling by the witnesses of the events passed.
so... repentant sauron being bound to a high queen galadriel to fight against morgoth when?
and it's one of those ships that is simply so vastly beautiful and interesting that it inspires creativity, yk? and i love it.
#sauron will find a way to regain his fair form. galadriel will find a way to anger valar. elrond will need those anti-depressants again!#sauron x galadriel#haladriel#saurondriel#the rings of power#sauron#galadriel#rings of power#trop#galadriel x halbrand#rop

Oh my god... why am I coming across this bullshit ?! No, Galadriel is definitely not done with Sauron after the season 2 finale ! She is in no way free in spirit and mind ! Damn, Sauron forcibly bound her to him by blood ! Are you being stupid on purpose ?! And of course... Mister Celeborn would be the key to Galadriel's happiness. The man from whom even in Tolkien's texts she spends a lot of time apart and who is not more important than that in the arc of our lady of light. I swear this kind of shit annoys me.

i’m actually hollering rn cause some people spent the last 2 years crying about haladriel and how it would disrupt canon blah blah only for this elf show to make her do something equally (and i’d argue if not more) ridiculous 😭
like thank yew because now we can yell haladriel canon and will fuck into the void and you can’t bring up it being lore avoidant or that she’d never do that yep it’s actually a win for us!
#galadriel queen of mordor canon too wow we won so bad#i told you guys the kiss would only solidify that we will always get the last laugh whether or not it was with sauron lmfao#haladriel#saurondriel#halbrand x galadriel#sauron x galadriel#galadriel#sauron#trop#it was completely unnecessary but at least it makes both antis and dudebros mad

The Rings of Power
Thoughts on The Rings of Power.
Something that has scratched my mind is why I ship Sauron with Galandriel, when there are a lot of people comparing them to Daemon and Rhae. Then I realized that: -Basically I like the chemistry of the actors.
They didn't need a single kiss or sex scene for them to tell us anything about what was between them.
Sauron is used for the Galandriel heroine's journey arc.
If you saw the Hobbit movie, Galandriel hit him.
I mean, their dynamic is more Cherik.

Is it canon that the ring-bearers of the One Ring have to endure self-insert Sauron x Galadriel fanfiction 24/7, already?
Additional tags: Halbrand (The Rings of Power) is Sauron (Tolkien); Enemies to Lovers; Angst, Fluff and Smut; Hurt/Comfort; Feelings Realization; Forbidden Love; Angst with a Happy Ending; Canon Rewrite; Fix-it; Porn with Feelings; Mutual Pining; Shameless Smut; Gratuitous Smut; Enthusiastic Consent; Dark Galadriel (Tolkien).
Isildur after 2 years: got into the fandom by accident, but is absolutely thrilled with his new and free dark romance streaming service. It only comes with one option of Elf x Maia, but he’s hooked. He’s new to the Sauron x Galadriel fandom, but is already invested.
Gollum after 500 years: Sauron x Galadriel veteran. He’s the one who started the fandom. An absolute addict, and hates himself for it, but can’t stop. Gatekeeps a lot. Will stand by its rights and wrongs, and is ready to go down with this ship.
Frodo after 17/18 years: absolutely traumatized, lost the will to live, can’t even recall the taste of food. Anti Sauron x Galadriel, and a Celeborn fanboy.
And then there’s this guy, who had the ring for 60 years, and is living his best life, smoking weed on his porch while listening to Sauron’s ramblings. Uncle Bilbo is the ultimate and shameless Sauron x Galadriel shipper.

like of course sauron made galadriel's armor but also its not that a wedding dress or symbolic in a romantic sense (it's symbolic in other senses, just not in a heteronormative sense).
there are two things that define sauron above all else and that is blacksmithing and giving gifts. even before he did illusions he did that. boy goes to any city and if he can walk he finds a forge. he is a celebrimbor stan. he will limp to that forge. he has forging hyperfixation. you can't stop him from forging things. and he will give gifts, that is what he does. sure those gifts sometimes have strings attached like rings that enslave you to the unseen world but you know, he likes forging and giving things out. the world will be burning and he'll make a thing.
(like i dont want to be like the sauron reveal in season 1 was obvious -- like, i mean it *was* -- but i saw him and was like, well that boy is obsessed with blacksmithing that is sauron. he made it his entire personality. )
anyway. armor is beautiful and adorns her beautifully. Only the best for his beloved toys. He is known as the giver of gifts for a reason, he has to give her something to entice her. You cant convince her only she can destroy Sauron if she is dressed in a chiton for battle! Love bombing is step 1, and giving gifts is part of this. And it makes so much sense with Galadriel's deflection later on: he offered me an army -- well he armed his general, that was his gift to her, to make her feel that way again (at what cost?). As he should. It's a way of building that dependence and connection, to show he is not just any man and he alone can bring her renown. Giving items that are there to bring victory in battle is very Sauron.
[disclaimer--sauron is a manipulative abusive bastard and i like it as a dark manipulative ship. also he aint settling for one plaything, he loves all his toys and routinely builds them up then violates and breaks them. this is not anti galadriel x sauron just anti soulmates/anti wedding imagery/anti halbrand is different than sauron].

So far ever since S2 ended, I been watching ao3 and the haladriel fanfics have been growing. It's amazing. We're getting so fed. Meanwhile on X Antis are coping hard about Cele/born and his return, which is whatever, it will happen anyways, but now it's like they're demanding they want the S3 arc to revolve around him and Galadriel like Sauron is some side character (lol). It sounds like they want what haladriel had in S1, which was purposely directed in a way to make the viewer ship the two characters because lore-wise, most people wouldn't automatically think of them in a relationship. But whatever headcanons they come up with their reunion, it's their business. The weird part is tho, they always like to latch onto this idea that Gal was this poor, innocent elf who never wanted any part or involvement with Halbrand, and they're just now emphasizing the part where he lost control and tried to kill her (while again, cognitive dissonance blinds them to the part where she was trying to kill him first) It's always pretty funny watching antis and their double standards with violence and killing between men and women.
It's amazing that the ship gets bigger ! It seems that the Haladriel finals made a significant impression on many social media users who didn't watch the show before.... It's good, very news !
Lol, It's actually hilarious to see this character suddenly become so popular, while Tolkien himself didn't care that much about the guy, and certainly didn't write Galadriel and Celeborn's marriage as this "epic love story" that these people imagine.
Whatever floats their boat, but if they seriously think that their reunion will get as much screen time as Haladriel season 1 did, they're going to be disappointed. Galadriel and Halbrand's story took much screentime because it was a part of a bigger story : how did Sauron deceive everyone, including Galadriel, and got to Eregion where he could forge his rings. The romantic bits was just a nice bonus !
(Almost) nobody wants a Galadriel/Celeborn rom-com in season 3, (almost) nobody cares, because it will have zero impact on the overall story. Halbrand and Galadriel's story had to be told to understand what would happen next. If not for Arwen, Galadriel could be remain single that it wouldn't change anything to the overall plot : she needs Celeborn only because she must have Celebrian, so Elrond can marry her and have Arwen. Sorry guys but he's just not important, except for Galadriel's personal happiness. I'm not saying their love story doesn't matter at all, but it's not enough important to hijack the overall plot of TROP !
And I say that as someone who wants Celeborn in the show, because I love Galadriel and I think she deserves some peace of mind, healthy love and stability, all things that Celeborn can give her. Do I think it deserves several hours of screentime? Sorry, but no. I'm more interested in seeing Sauron corrupt men with the Nine rings, for example.
And for the love of Eru, Sauron didn't try to kill Galadriel in season 1, he also didn't try to kill her in season 2. He just never did. Galadriel was drowning in an illusion. Sauron wanted to punish her for rejecting him, so he maintained the illusion to make her believe she was drowning and that this time, he was not going to save her. He wanted her to despair, which she did. This scene's actually hearbreaking, because we can see that for a moments she's still hoping that he will come for her.
It was cruel, but it was definitely not a murder attempt. Her drowning was an allegory of the despair she felt over Sauron's deception, but physically she was always safe. He literally had a dagger he could have used to kill her ! And he's Sauron ! He can kill anyone. Can we be serious a minute ? please ?
In the real world, she attacked him with the dagger like she did in the illusion, he pushed her in the river, where she had no risk of drowning for real, and he left when he heard Elrond come, probably. He didn't even have to maintain her face in the water, like I've seen suggested once. Her face was NOT under water, she was clearly not drowning for real and as soon as Elrond broke the illusion, she was well awake and ready to cut his throat !
Does she look half dead to you?
Besides, she never told anyone that he tried to kill her? Why ? Because she knows he didn't.
And in season 2, he didn't want to kill her with Morgoth's crown : again, he wanted to punish her for rejecting him, and also bind her to him. He knows where the heart is... If the point was to kill her he would have aimed right.
So actually, only Galadriel tried to kill Sauron, repeatedly, and I suspect that this situation will never change.

Galadriel in the Rings of Power, part 4: A savvy politician or a silly brash youth?
This post is the continuation of my analysis of Galadriel as she is portrayed in the Amazon series The Rings of Power - and why I think it is so very bad. Part 1 focused on the the portrayal of her being a warrior, and the many problems it creates for her character and possibly even for LOTR, whereas part 2 argued that what is supposed to be war trauma is actually just an awful personality. Part 3 focuses on the ways ROP undermines Galadriel's story as a woman, wife, and mother.
Part 1 x Part 2 x Part 3
This post will discuss the various ways Galadriel's portrayal in ROP is wrong when comparing the mental qualities she expresses in canon and in the show, the depiction of her age, and whether she is well cast in the show.
I will post my arguments in a few different posts, because that should make the whole much more readable. I will use the tags #anti rop and #anti rings of power for the benefit of those who may want to filter my posts.
If you like Amazon Rings of Power, I have no issue with that; I only take issue with how a character I've loved for over a decade is portrayed in this show.
6. ROP!Galadriel does not have the mental capacity and abilities she should have.
In Tolkien's versions of Galadriel's story, she is consistently portrayed as an individual of high intellect and wisdom, matching even the loremasters of her people. She is insightful and astute, seeing into the hearts of people around her, and recognising evil even under a fair form. She is collected and resilient after great ordeals and suffering. She never is persuaded to follow or even like Fëanor, and when Sauron comes to Eregion as Annatar, she knows him immediately for what he is. She learns to check her ambition and when she's offered the rule of Lothlórien, she won't become a queen after King Amroth, but assumes more of a regent's role as the Lady of the Wood. Galadriel is also a strong and wise leader, respected by her subordinates and other Elven communities, which implies great diplomatic skill. As I have argued before, it is striking that she, a Noldo and blood-relation of Kinslayers, is revered among the Elves of MIddle-earth. It's hard to believe this would be possible if she did not build and maintain a connection with them throughout the First and Second Ages. When the Istari arrive in Middle-earth, she rightly recognises Gandalf as the greatest of them. She travels through Khazad-dûm with her daughter, and does so while her husband Celeborn refuses the journey due to his prejudices for Dwarves, thus showing her tolerance and ability to deal with the other peoples of Middle-earth. She makes allies among the peoples of Middle-earth, is the instigator of the White Council and even invokes love in the heart of Gimli the dwarf, who has every reason to be mistrustful of her. Specifically, it is her eloquence and respect for his culture that wins him over. She is one of the very few noble Noldorin Elves to survive the First Age and endure until the end of the Third.
I don't find any of these qualities in ROP!Galadriel. The most glaring difference is how blind and gullible she is to Sauron/Halbrand's deceptions - a direct contradiction of how canonically Galadriel immediately saw through his disguise and was his enemy from the start. ROP!Galadriel doesn't seem particularly intelligent, what with jumping out of a ship and trying to swim across an ocean, and spending centuries fruitlessly hunting Sauron. And as I argued in the part 3, it doesn't seem like she ever had a very good plan of how to bring down Sauron, if she ever found him - unless her intention always was to self-destruct by Sauron.
She has no wisdom whatsoever, doesn't see her own faults and doesn't try to check herself. She is a princess of Noldor and in her youth witnessed all the tensions and rivalries at her grandfather's court, but still she has no skill in politics, diplomacy or negotiation. She lets herself be manipulated by Gil-galad, stepping on the ship that sails for Valinor and only jumps out at the point when there is no way she could possibly swim back to Middle-earth (only to be saved by idiot plot). She is antagonising against potential allies. She waltzes into the court of Númenor, yells platitudes at the regent, makes arrogant demands and gets herself thrown in jail - which she gets out of not by eloquence and persuasion, but by aggression and violence. The only reason Míriel seems to help her is because Míriel's own foreboding, not because Galadriel's diplomatic skill. She is a blunt weapon of no artistry or subtlety. She is rude even when her circumstances require tact and caution, and continues to act in a coarse way even though the Númenóreans' prejudices against Elves are already causing tensions and the smart thing to do would be to show discretion and courtesy. For her community, she is a problem to be dealt with, not a great asset and ally. She has no personal dignity and people around have no respect for her. And why would they? She is not nice even to her so called friends and mostly she is bothered to care about people around her when they can somehow serve her vengeance. Pride is maybe the only thing ROP!Galadriel has in common with her canon counterpart, but it's combined with an already awful personality and no redeeming qualities.
7. Depiction of Galadriel's age is nonsensical.
This argument has not just to do with Galadriel, but is linked with the show's larger problems with portraying Elves and the compression of time - although it is telling that it's the female character that gets this treatment, not one of the male Elves. However, this is another discussion altogether and I will cover it in the final part of my analysis.
According to Tolkien's lore, Elves reach maturity at the age of a hundred years. Galadriel at the end of the Second Age is already thousands of years old. At this point in canon, she has been married for an age and has a grown daughter. She is one of the oldest and most powerful elves of Middle-earth, and is senior to Gil-galad and Celebrimbor.
Although ROP still maintains that Galadriel was born in Valinor during the years of the Trees and is thus exactly as old as in canon, you would not guess it from the way she presents herself. She is so brash and immature in her behaviour that Elendil, a mortal who can't even comprehend the ages she has lived, actually says she reminds him of his children (is this some convoluted way of saying that only parenthood will bring out one's full potential?). Meanwhile, Gil-galad and Celebrimbor, who are both her junior, are portrayed as older and more mature. In canon, Galadriel is wise already as a young elf and her wisdom grows only greater during her long life, but ROP!Galadriel has absolutely no wisdom and despite her great age, acts like a hot-headed teenager. It seems the show wants to portray her as "young Galadriel", never mind the fact that this character cannot in any way be considered young at the end of the Second Age. Heck, it would be a reach even if the show began at the start of SA.
8. Galadriel is not well cast
I will admit that this argument is partly a matter of taste, but there is also a more objective observation to be made: Galadriel is described as a very tall woman, as tall as most male Elves. She is also an athlete in her youth, and also physically strong. Combining this with her high intellect, her ability to read the hearts and minds of others, and heritage as a High Elf who saw the light of the Trees, Galadriel should be played by a tall, imposing and striking woman.
The actress Amazon cast in the role does not have these qualities. She is diminutive and does not stand out in any scene as an ancient and powerful Elf. The weight of the role would be humongous for anyone after Cate Blanchett's widely beloved portrayal, and it is certainly not helpful that the show creators have made some very controversial choices about the character.
On a more subjective note, in my opinion the actress is not particularly good in the role. Most of the time, she has only two expressions, sullenness and angry sneer. Her delivery is not very good or convincing. But maybe this is not the actress' fault: the problems could stem from the script and direction, which are at times laughably bad. I don't know of the actress' previous work - I'm under the impression that she is a new face in the business and ROP is her first major role - so it may be also a question of experience.
Also we should cast tall women in more roles.
&&&&&&
The next and the final part will attempt to tie in my arguments and also point out some problems with the show that are not necessarily about Galadriel, but affect nonetheless the way she's portrayed in the show.

Celeborn deserves better than being a consolation prize for Galadriel, no matter what will happen with Halbrand.
And if we consider fandom shipping issues and the leaks about Halbrand being Sauron are true, Celeborn deserves better than being a typical "safe because-he's-weaker-than-her love interest for a Strong Female Heroine Being a Role Model for Little Girls TM suffering heartbreak after being hurt by her villainous love interest" that is disliked by villain/heroine shippers.
And Sauron x Galadriel as a ship has too much fanon potential to become just a "canon" cautionary tale about dangers of attractive dark guys luring naive young girls to their doom, because that's the moral lesson that villain x heroine shippers "need" to be given.
Yours sincerely, a pessimistic villain x heroine shipper that doesn't like many things about the upcoming Amazon series

it might be ambiguous but sauron x galadriel's relationship is central to the show, both in detail and overarching narrative. and if the antis can't catch on and recognize how trop deliberately uses several tropes, framing, acting choices, parallels, patterns, metaphors, symbolism, subtext and dialogue to signify the erotic and metaphysic undertones underlying this dynamic then it's on their own media illiteracy, not on us having the "shipping goggles" on.

Sorry, I have to get this off my chest because I'm starting to see trend on x.
One thing that kind of baffles me is when I see Haladriel shippers who like to ship Halbrand and Galadriel like they were together in S1, which is perfectly fine... except, the part that I'm raising my eyebrow at is when they turn around and condemn the fellow shippers who accept that Sauron and Halbrand are the same person, and enjoy the added layer of complexity and darkness to their relationship. Like, ok you like extra vanilla and cream in your coffee while I like mine to have more expresso. No issue with that... except they often like to make it an issue when they come across anyone/thing that explores Saurondriel or fangirls over it. It's rly weird and smells too familiar to those puritans who preach that Haladriel (Sauron included) shouldn't be shipped because they take Sauron as a black and white villain.
Essentially, they treat Halbrand like he was never Sauron in disguise, and I'm like, okay sis, you do you. Whatever floats your boat. But please don't act morally superior over it because that makes you no different than the same purists that sht on anything that's doesn't align to traditional Chris/tian values, and nor does it make you better than the lorebros who insist that Galadriel cannot ever love/marry anyone else after Celeborn because she's an elf. But you know, I don't like to engage with discourse so I just stay in my lane and am humbly grateful we're still on the same coin, just different sides I guess. Until they start to side with the puritans and/lorebros as a copout and/or to feel better about themselves. Very peculiar.
I never came across those shippers so far, but I agree it's very... strange? And a denial of canon I'd say even, because the fact is wether they want it or not, Halbrand = Sauron.
Maybe there are people who used to ship Halbrand and Galadriel before it was revealed that Halbrand was Sauron, and were very disappointed at the end? It's a pity if that's the reason, but doing some mental gymnastics to separate Halbrand from Sauron entirely is... certainly a choice.
I mean, as Halbrand was probably the closest we saw Sauron to be what he used to be before Morgoth corrupted him, aka Mairon, but even then, Sauron was never far away. It's not as if Sauron had parasited Halbrand or something. They're literally the same person, and at no point did the show tell us otherwise.
It kinda reminds me of other ships involving a villain, where shippers seem to feel bad about shipping the protagonist with the bad guy who does all these terrible things, so they turn the narrative upside down and literally invent non canon "facts" that make the villain a anti hero, a victim who's not responsible for his actions, and yell at those who choose to see him as he really is, aka... a complex character, who still has a glimpse of goodness in him but still chooses evil anyway.
As much as I'm annoyed when people strip of a villain of what makes them complex to reduce them to a two-dimensional carboard cut-out villain (like I often see Sauron reduced to on Tumblr), it's equally annoying when the contrary happens. What makes characters such as Sauron, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, the Darkling etc. interesting, fascinating even, IS that they're complex, and thus sometimes sympathetic. And shipping a protagonist with such a character is way more fun, imho, than shipping said character only with the best version of themselves.

I do know Apolo’s post this morning about how there are antis here masquerading as Haladriel shippers was being passed round in various chats with some concern and people asking if anyone knew who this was referring to, so this is likely why they were turning up in people’s radar.
Then, perhaps, instead of jumping to conclusions and block me why not reach out to me, and ask me yourselves!? My ask box is closed but my messages aren’t.
I wasn’t talking about Galadriel x Celeborn shippers. These are two completely different posts. I was talking about specific Tumblr users who have interacted with me and reblogged my meta, but are actually antis, as they made that very clear on their comments, especially concerning sexual stuff. I was called “delusional”, “liar”, accused of cherry picking evidence on Eldar customs on marriage and sex (when I didn’t), and my speculation dismissed as “fanfiction”. And I was told to watch “Bridgerton” instead.
I mentioned this on my Season 3 speculation about Celeborn because one of these antis told me I was completely delusional to expect any more Sauron and Galadriel’s interactions in Season 3 because Celeborn will return and shut down the whole thing, Saurondriel is over in “Rings of Power”, and Galadriel will forget everything about Halbrand/Sauron. That’s why I said what I said. You would know that, if you had reach out to me.
I won’t publically expose these people, and besides, they already expose themselves because I’m not the only user they harassed. Like-minded shippers have dealt with them too, and they are blocked by all of us.
Instead, you all jumped on the “let’s hate and block this b*tch” bandwagon, when you could have ask me what was going on. Very nice and mature, indeed.
And the ones who should be reading this, won’t because they blocked me, and will continue to spew their vitriol at me on their echo chambers, and probably send their followers my way. Because some of these Haladriels, I know for a fact, are very popular in the fandom.
Yes, I’m new to the “Rings of Power” fandom because I only watched it this year. As a Tolkien fan, I believed the lorebros when they said RoP was butchering Tolkien. And then I gave it a shot and loved it, especially Sauron x Galadriel. But this is my welcome party to the fandom? You talk about antis? You are no better than they are.
#shame on you#I thought this was adult space fandom#apparently i was wrong#you are all acting like a bunch of teenagers#galadriel x sauron#saurondriel#sauron x galadriel
