I saw this post about THR discussing Jared and the CW: https://x.com/Cherryoliv40095/status/1794016212281864455
Which led me to their podcast. I thought I'd forward it on because they make some really great points, not just about losing Walker, but the current state of the CW, what the industry is losing with their new direction, and how the industry, as a whole, is losing creative pipelines for up-and-comers. I thought it might be something you'd be interested in, in case you haven't already listened!
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/tvs-top-5-podcast-the-cw-freevee-netflix-ratings-1235907525/
(The section about the CW starts right about the 28:00 mark.
Link and Link. lol at the 29:00 mark the reporters dissed Gotham Knights.
Summary: They discuss the old CW network purpose as marketing platform for two studios for international and streaming rights, thus it was "massively profitable for the studios''. Rights for All American and Walker were already sold off before Nexstar took over.
The end of the old CW era is a "heartbreak for the entire industry" because for countless number of writers the old CW was the entryway into the industry to hone their talent and learn on the job by being on the set. Old CW essentially gave the key to showrunning and these writers went on to write and/or showrun on bigger networks. CW basically set the stage for Marvel to become the juggernaut it became.
And now it's gone. The loss of CW is a loss for the TV ecosystem. Not just CW, there are number of networks are going away from their brand and just becoming remnants. (I like to say it's an era of channel drift.)
Time stamp 44:45 "What was so innovative and interesting about the CW when it as at its most successful was when Pedowitz said the ratings were not telling the story." And understood the audience they were appealing to aren't watching live TV and they can still run a business because they weren't worried about profit, which is a great luxury to have.
An emailer asked who is the new CW that can fill the void? The answer is, "I don't know".
At least two from Hollywood Reporter doesn't plan to cover the CW anymore. End summary.
This was part of the reasons why I had a soft spot for the old CW, not only did they had a plethora of comedy, drama, sci fi and fantasy shows outside the formulaic procedural shows glutting the 3 big networks, but they also mentored countless up and coming tv writers that heavily contributed to the tv eco system. (sidenote, probably why I watched Walker because it wasn't straight procedural, I got NCIS for that).

I guess it's a good thing Misha's on that silence retreat, otherwise his fans would expect him to address Gotham Knights' cancelation. Maybe he already knew and that's why he announced he'd be taking a week off SM? LOL!

Gotham Knights was cancelled officially.
Indeed it was. I was waiting for a very long time for this to be announced. Thank you for the message, anon.
Aside from the reasons listed in the article, I would add that poor casting, poor performances and extremely bad writing led to this show's death. The premise of it was already a dud but good actors and sound writing could have created some magic. This is why investing in good writers and actors who know their script analysis and character analysis is key.

I swear, if the CW actually renews the rolling flaming trash heap that is The Winchesters, they need to just shut down the network. I mean who the hell makes their choices? Gotham Knights should've never made it to air, Winchesters should've been cancelled already....

I feel this so much. I’d be totally on board with him as big screen Batman but for the love of all that is holy Jensen, stay the f*ck away from GK.
Oh and take a look through the comments, did someone actually ask Gunn to comment on GK?

Fic which focuses on Alfred’s reaction to Jason. He looks like he loves him and he feels like he loves him but when the chips are down Alfred does the necessary thing and walks over his dead grandson’s memory in order to keep his living son functioning. He judges and criticizes Bruce in the privacy of his mind but outwardly he comforts Bruce that there was never anything he could’ve done for the boy, he brought it upon himself. The living must move on peace must be upheld the hatchet must be buried. Alfred nobly grieves dishonestly, until he believes it too. (It’s not very hard.)
And then Jason comes back. He tears at the seams of Bruce that Alfred (and Dick and Tim) so nobly stitched back together. He says no the living need to look, this peace isn’t real, the hatchet is all we have.
And what can Alfred do except continue the lie? What can he do except continue to bury bury bury Jason in a distorted past? Jason is his grandson but Bruce was his son first. Bruce was here. Bruce. Takes precedence. He’s already made his choice. There is no way but forward. He can’t look back.

//Ouch! I guess Misha's begging didn't work.//
I'm sure you saw but just in case (and for those who didn't), MC sent out an email through Gish on Monday:
Hey, friend!
Sorry I’ve been a little out of touch; I’ve been tied up working on a new show, Gotham Knights, playing Harvey Dent who becomes the Batman supervillain, "Two-Face." The character gets progressively darker and more insane as the show progresses. (In fact, by the time we get to the season finale you will see that Harvey has become so maniacally evil that he’s basically indiscernible from my daily persona as the Misha you’ve come to know and fear over the years.)
If you missed the first couple of episodes, you can still catch up—it’s on The CW app and website. Then, you can watch new episodes every Tuesday on the CW at 9/8 central. Do me a favor? Watch the show and email me back to let me know what you think (or you can text me at 323-405-9939 if that’s easier). Thanks!
Your two-faced friend,
Misha
PS: When you watch, could you do me one more favor: post about it on social media and tag #CWGothamKnights? I know this is shameless self-promotion, but any support we get improves the chances that we’ll get another season. (If that happens, I’ll get a chance to really showcase my duplicitous side, so I figured I might as well start practicing my "nefarious scheming" skills now.) Thanks.
So yea, he's getting very desperate ad using all means at his disposal to try and drum up attention. However, anyone who gets those emails already has a pretty set opinion on him and GK so sending out an email to people who are already either his fans or his haters isn't going to get any more eyes on the show. But is does show his hand and the desperation there.
LOL! I saw a couple of posts about it yesterday, but seeing the actual text is... well... I don't quite know what to make of it.
On the one hand, begging is entirely unattractive and pathetic, and it's consistent with the way he begged for people to buy his poetry book.
On the other hand, Misha's putting more work each week into promoting the show than the Ackles did for the entire run of TW, so his pandering effort is unmatched.
But to your last paragraph, you're exactly right! He's not expanding the audience, he's just catering to his fans who are already watching. (And using his former charity account, which seems to me a conflict of interest... especially if he takes in any donations this tax year.)

the choice to have bruce wayne open the door to a social worker in just a robe with a visibly young 17yo girl bringing him coffee and hanging off his arm also in just a robe to be utterly unhinged if your goal is to prove he's a good man who doesn't take advantage of children
if i was felix desidero who already expected child abuse from this man this would make me pop my lid, like who is that naked child on your arm? i would do more than subpoena his ass!
felix already has all the evidence that jason todd took a plane to the middle east alone, was in that relief camp alone, and his death was covered up with no autopsy because of bruce wayne's money and status. add in his boss telling him that if he investigates wayne he'll mess up a lot of social projects wayne funds and you've got a shit storm of a rich man not just abusing his children but also every legal system or loophole in the city.
how in the world did one tear get him to back off? dick tells him bruce was good for him but doesnt know jason and cass calls herself an ally and alfred tells him jason didnt want what they gave him (greedy street kid) and tim tells him bruce and dick are big influences and dick is like a brother. alfred and tim both are incredibly quick to anger but none of all of that strikes him as confirmation of his suspicions?? bruce tells him that he straight up took jason in as a charity project to change him and that he was wrong to give jason hope for the future because of course he wouldn't get one!! how in the world did that convince a social worker that bruce wayne is a fit parent??? get outta here!!!
obviously its just because bruce wayne needs to be batman needs to be the hero and cant be questioned with anything like logic or facts or anything but fucking hell those issues hurt to read

So where are the 'millions' of Misha fans who were going to make GK a hit? Lol.
Perhaps they're in hiding with the 'millions' of Jensen fans who failed to turn up for TW.
I have a theory that a lot of Misha and Jensen fans are overseas. They can watch illegally and contribute to social media (hence the high number of tweets - at least for GK), but they aren't counted towards the Live US ratings.
