Existing in a world where I have to filter out cr*loise and th*loise fics out constantly so they don't clog my polin tag searches. Like, I already dislike both ships, but stans shoving their mid ships down my throat makes it so much worse.
Philoise season, come home to meeee 😭. I need it so bad, like free me from this torment, Eloise needs a person who understands and supports her.
Theo was really a two dimensional character created for the express purpose of being a generic entry level love interest. Nothing is actually known about his life outside of what suits that purpose.
I refuse to even dignify the reason I don't like Cressida with words. It should be obvious.
I'm so tired, especially when my boy is purposefully misunderstood by fans of the show. Philip isn't perfect but he has a perfectly understandable trauma response even if it isn't great. Theo had no real personality other than romanticized poor love interest, but the complex male character that literally experienced a traumatic event less than a year before the main plot of the book was even reached gets constant criticism with no nuanc.
Cressida...people only take her abuse seriously because her father is the main perpetrator and she's a girl (they never acknowledge that Violet and Penelope are also both victims of emotional and verbal abuse and still managed to be fundamentally good people who made understandable (even if on some occasions extreme) mistakes that they both take full responsibility for and don't try to excuse it instead of explaining it. Likely because their perpetrators are their mothers). Philip experienced severe emotional and physical abuse and does problematic things as a result (often because he sees it as protecting his loved ones rather than just being a dick), but he doesn't even get half the empathy that Cressida does from certain parts of this fandom.
Philoise season cannot come soon enough istg.

I wish we met before they convinced you life is war
I wish we met before they convinced Cressida Cowper is actually a soft uwu girl who had a bad childhood and just wants a friend. Instead of an entitled narcissist who is cruel for the fun of it, and that her friendship with Eloise is anything less than bad and lazy writing

All Colin knows about Cressida is that she’s a bully. And specifically Pen’s bully. He wasn’t forced to sit through her backstory like we were

Cressida might be a friend of Eloise, she may become the friend that offers Eloise a new perspective and different ideas, but she's not her love interest.
Their interests don't align and would have to make many (a lot of) compromises in order to work out, Eloise might understand Cressida's situation and appreciate Cressida becoming more understanding, but she would not forgive Cressida trying to rob Penelope of her work nor Cressida blackmailing and slut shaming Daphne.
And even beyond the Bridgertons Cressida actively participated in ruining other debutante's chances and enjoyed in ruining their reputations as she tried with Daphne

Now, I have to face people who defend Cressida and hate Penelope. Seriously.
You see, this is the problem of the show, making Lady Whistledown a simple gossip monger, a loser hating popular people spreading gossip behind the scenes, which is not a case in the book.
Lady whistledown was a newsletter. A column. She reported what happened at the party with her own opinions. It's not something all about secret revealing or bullshit the show writers make out of with 21st-century mindset. Her witty comments about the events made them interesting in the book. That's why people, both the characters and book readers, loved her.
Yes, LW comments harsh things about people in the book because they deserved it, but it's nothing compared to the things Cressida said about Penelope in TVWLM and more.
Honestly, I don't know why the show writers suddenly felt pity on Cressida if they read the books and gave her narrative and then made her go away like that? Like you don't have to give her pity stories to make a reason for her money grabbing villain. She simply wanted money, which was enough for the ending.
And don't talk about Marina, ugh.

and when i say both cressida and penelope suck, they were both terrible to others and each other, and both deserved mildly shitty endings

And yet people think that Penelope should give in to blackmail
I don't care how much I sympathize with Cressida's parental situation, it's not Penelope's fault nor is it her responsibility to financially help her out of that situation.
Cressida is not entitled to Penelope's hard earned money just because people feel bad for her.

Cressida is a bitch. She took her bullying and cruelty up a notch when she demeans and looks down on Colin for being a man. Especially evil when she wrote horrible things about all of the Bridgerton family, when pretending to be lady whistledown and take credit for the society sheet writings.

Cressida is a bully who rejoices in other women's suffering, she tried to ruin the reputation of Daphne and always targeted Pen, of course Elliot would never court her
Cressida would try to pursue Elliot until he roasted her and she never looked at him again.
😂😂 I think Cressida got the humiliation of her life when she tried her femenine wiles on Elliot Bridgerton and he acted like she'd straight up insulted him
There was definitely a roasting involved something along the lines of " You're too skinny, too mean, too self absorbed, your perfume makes me gag, the beautiful dress is ruined by the vapid coyote wearing it, your manners leave something to be desired, your niceness is as fake as the Flowers in this ball...wait don't walk away I wasn't finished listing the reasons why I dislike you"
You have to understand Elliot Bridgerton created a reputation for himself as the man who would willingly insult a lady to her face just to make it clear to the ton that he wasn't looking for a bride.
Sure he'd never do an innocent girl the discourtesy of roasting her in public, he'd just take them within view but out of earshot of their Mamas and say his piece.
Cressida was a special case because she wouldn't take the hint

Alright so bridgerton decided to tell a story where they gave their one dimensional 90s-esque blonde mean girl bully a story where we actually see a new side of her and see her learn to be a better person through her friendship with another woman, after previously seeing her treat other women as the enemy and competition we see her putting another woman, her new friend, before herself.
We also don’t just see this character start to grow and change but we learn of her tragic home life who in the second half of the season intends to marry her off to a 70 year old man who intends to rape her until she has at least five forced births. Then she tried to tell her so called women’s rights activist best friend who doesn’t listen because she only cares about her own problems, her mother also won’t help, society doesn’t care so she makes a desperate attempt by declaring herself as whistledown to gain money in her own right to take care of herself and get herself out of the marriage. The silver lining is she actually did manage to get herself out of the marriage so it was a smart move in saving herself but her so called progressive friend makes out that this is means Cressida was always just a bad person and the so called friend never looks at it from the perspective of a woman’s desperation to be free, despite women having freedom has been a major plot point this season and Eloise wants women to be different from societal expectations but no, not like that, not in away that I don’t find morally acceptable. Eloise coud have helped Cressida, the only person to show Eloise kindness and friendship when she needed someone, escape her horrible circumstances regardless of whether she “deserves” help.
But i guess the writers decided despite the development Cressida is a mean girl at heart and did something unforgiveable (but the real whistledown is forgiven quickly) so then they for some reason do a complete 180 and have her resort back to gossiping mean girl who bullies and spreads untrue rumours so that they can justify sending her away to live miserably to make Penelope’s happy ending more cliche by getting rid of her bully instead of making her a nuanced interesting character.

Maybe just maybe people are giving Cressida grace not because she's thin, but because we saw on Queen Charlotte through Lady Danbury how awful it was to be married to a man twice your age who uses your body with no regard for your wishes or comfort with the only way out being his death.
I hated that for Lady Danbury, I didn't want that for Marina, I don't want it for Cressida, and although I dislike her I wouldn't want that for Penelope either.

the irony of having eloise call cressida "the viper that she invited into her home" to penelope of all fucking people. I turned the show off after that and i doubt i will ever turn it back on.
penelope, who eloise invited into her home, who spent years using her closeness to the bridgertons for her own gain. penelope, who eloise confided so many secrets in, who turned around and published them knowing full well it could spell ruin for the bridgertons--specifically the bridgerton women.
penelope is the viper, and to try and play it any other way, to try and push that label onto cressida, and to assassinate eloise's character(and colin's, the rest of the bridgertons, and lady danbury and every other character that was forced support this LW bullshit to prop penelope up) isn't just lazy. it's a fucking joke.
