I feel like when I’m reading or watching something, for me to like a hero, they have to
1) have ambition about anything
2) not be annoying
3) not excuse their shitty behaviour with their shitty childhood
4) not be so self-righteous they don’t see their own flaws
For these reasons I hate with a burning passion Jace Herondale, Clary Fairchild, Eli Ever, Tiberius “Cal” Calore VIII, Dean Winchester, and Legend/Dante Santos
Jace is constantly doing something shitty in every book and people don’t care and they just put up with it for some reason. In CoG he belittles Clary because he wants to push her away but keeps coming back to her. He also keeps coming onto Clary when he thought she was his sister and said that cursed sentence in CoG that I need to bleach from my brain. I know if he said that shit to me I would’ve punched him in his stupid face cuz who does he think he is? He mocks the werewolves after they lost a child in their pack, he’s just awful to Alec at times, he doesn’t seem to understand there are consequences to his actions and just does shit because he wants to. He had the emotional maturity of a dried up pinecone.
Clary also does so much shit and people don’t call her out because she’s the protagonist and she just lets Jace do whatever to her because he’s hot. Girl please get a grip. She slut shames Izzy because apparently women aren’t allowed to have a sex life or wear revealing clothing 😒 girl you kissed someone you thought was YOUR BROTHER!! She dated Simon to get over Jace and then kissed Jace in the Seelie Court, and repeatedly thought about Jace in a romantic sense WHILE she thought they were SIBLINGS! I can’t.
Eli is so self-righteous, annoying and hypocritical. He uses God and religion as an excuse to kill innocent people which is just disgusting. Like I get that he thinks being an EO changed a person because Victor became different but he is an EO himself and he just takes it on himself to murder innocent people for simply existing.
Cal has no desire to do anything, at least up to the beginning of King’s Cage he doesn’t (where I currently am). He knows how poorly the Reds are being treated and he doesn’t want to change anything because (and I’m paraphrasing) there would be outrage among the Silvers and a war would break out. Bitch you are already at war! He’s the reason why so many innocent young Reds have lost their lives fighting in a war they have no say in. He sees the Scarlet Guard killing Silvers and he doesn’t try to stop them. He sulks and whines but doesn’t take any real action, which he could if he actually wanted to. He stalks around the camp like Mare’s dog and thinks he’s better than everyone.
Dean Winchester is an abusive asshole. He locked Sam in the cellar when he was addicted to demon blood when he knew the withdrawal could kill him. He shit on Sam for being manipulated. He’s made horrible perverted jokes about women, might I remind y’all of the high school episode (he was at least 26 at the time). He guilted Sam for leaving him in Hell and Purgatory when he did THE EXACT SAME THING when Same went to the cage. He threatened Kaia, a teenager at gun point for his own selfish purposes. He abused Jack til the very end, yelling that he wasn’t family when Jack had sacrificed his soul and life for the Winchesters, and made Jack hate himself for being born. He was shitty to Cas in so many seasons and didn’t care that Cas just went through seeing his son die and wasn’t able to save him. He violated Sam’s body by tricking him into letting Gadreel in which led to the death of Kevin and had the audacity to think he was wronged.
Dante is shit. Julian, his brother, lived with him for centuries, followed him wherever he went and loved him unconditionally. All Julian asked was for Dante to love him back, which he never did. When Julian finally found someone who loved him, Dante made fun of him. And then in the next book he gives up his immortality for Tella, a girl he has known for literal months at most. He didn’t love his brother, who has been with him since the beginning, enough to give up his immortality but he loved this random girl he has known for a couple months at most to give it all up?? Tella should’ve left him in the dust just like she did Jacks and went off on adventures by herself and met someone that wasn’t a twat.

Call me crazy but my ideal future for Lucien is actually the Jacks from Caraval/OUABH treatment.
LIKE give me Lucien crushed and heartbroken and raging when Elain chooses Azriel next book (a sister choosing her sisters lovers brother instead of her soulmate? SOUND FAMILIAR) and then he moves away to another court or the continent or something and dyes his hair pink because it was Elain’s favorites color and he wants to be dramatic and then GIVE HIM A SPIN OFF SERIES OF HIS OWN.
I seriously feel like Lucien is the PERFECT character for a spin off (novel OR series) because he has so many ties to this world and so many possible storylines to be explored in different sections of the ACOTAR universe. it would be SO cool to explore things outside the IC/NC perspective and give Lucien a love story and journey that could be his own. It would also be an opportunity to explore so many of the side characters fans are interested in (Eris, Helion, Tamlin, Jurian, Vassa, etc) and maybe even bring in some new characters and it would JUST BE SO COOL

Do you know any good fantasy (with maybe a hint of romance?) That are clean and not necessarily Christian but at least aren't full of anti Christian values? I am trying to find books to get my 12 year old sister to read, but I just don't read a lot of fantasy that isn't super complicated. I got her to read Caraval and she's loving that.
And you seem to know about a lot of books!
Absolutely!
The Rangers Apprentice series is a lot of fun as a character study. The worldbuiling falls apart after book 2 in the fantasy department but it's still a good story. It follows an orphan named Will as he learns how to be a ranger and protect the kingdom so there's a lot of themes about duty and devotion and friendship that make it really wholesome. There are depictions of battles and fight scenes where enemies die and characters get hurt but it's mostly PG. Book 3 does deal with some addiction and drug use but it's painted in a negative context. Extremely slow burn romance friends to lovers stretching over several books. There are references to Norse adjacent gods in the fictional swears but the religion aspect is pretty much irrelevant to the story. My 9 year old sister and 13 year old brother have read these and love them and they were my favorite when I was that age.
The Chronicles of Prydain is very similar to LOTR in theme and setting but it's geared towards kids so it's VERY fast paced by comparison. Absolutely one of my favorite series of all time, it follows Taran Assistant Pig Keeper as becomes a warrior and a man and learns that being a warrior is less important than being a good man. The one female character Eilonwy is great, she gets kind of sidelined by the author but the fandom (esp. @highqueenofprydain ) have fics to fix that. Also slow burn romance that doesn't get resolved until literally the last page of the series.
The Wingfeather Saga is my newest all time favorite. It's by a Christian author and has a lot of biblical references in it and the storytelling is incredible. It has the most realistic depiction of siblings in fiction I think I've ever read and the worldbuiling is genius. Implied romance in the form of childhood crush but it's very cute and feels like it'll build to more after the book is closed.
Some of my old favorites are also A Wrinkle in Time and The Little Prince. I recently read Coraline which is kind of scary but also really great. Amazing short stand alones with messages of courage and love triumphing over all.
Daughter of the Sun (the mothmar trilogy) by Amanda Auler is a new Christian fantasy that's a little more heavy/dark in theme so I would maybe hold off on recommending it to your sister until she's more in YA territory but it's EXCELLENT. I reviewed the first book here and I should have a ARC going up for the second book in the next week or so. Slow burn romance, brilliant worldbuiling, deep themes.
Heart of the Sea is another book I just read recently which is clean but also YA and more towards the romance side. It's a pirate adventure and it's just a lot of fun so for a standalone I think she'd enjoy it.
I remember when I was in high school I really liked the Lunar Chronicles series which is sci-fi fairy tale adaptations. Because it's classic princess stories there is romance and it's YA clean, and the sci-fi adventure part is exciting and very fun.
A lot of classic children's books are very good too, I would have to find a list but I grew up on the likes of Treasure Island and Anne of Green Gables. Not fantasy but it's always cool to read stuff that was written in a different time period.
I hope this helps! I'll add to it if I can come up with more.

Soooo I’m in a Midnights’ Taylor Swift l hangover right now and this question suddenly popped in my head… do you think Jacks is now considered to be an anti-hero esp after TBONA? I don’t know if it’s his feelings for Eva that made him more mature and soft in OUABH but he def was a villain in Caraval. Any thoughts about it??
Tumblr media
Hmm, I don't think Jacks is an anti-hero after TBONA. Before he was (pragmatic antihero) when he helped Tella in Finale, but I think he's generally more of a tragic hero. However after TBONA, this might change into him being the actual hero.
Though we see Jacks do things his own way (in Stephanie's words, he says the worst things, does the worst things) to get whatever he wants, he knows when things are a bad idea.
I remember this passage,
Tumblr media
And it makes me believe that Jacks will succeed in being the Hero that he wanted to be when tried to save Castor.
But of course, that doesn't mean his twisted ways won't stop 😊
Let me know if I got something wrong! Jacks is very complex, and sometimes he doesn't fit into the antihero qualities since he's brave, confident, and doesn't give a crap about how he treats people. 👍🏽

Stalking Jack the Ripper review
Tumblr media
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, this book was absolutely amazing, the characters, the plot twist, the whole book was so well written. This was EXACTLY my type of book and it ticked all the boxes:
handsome, serious, sassy, smart man with parental issues and is bad at hiding crushes and thinks he’s better than Eve ☑️
a well written strong female lead that isn’t a bitch ☑️
a twist on a actual thing that happened in history ☑️
and an amazing plot twist that I did not see coming ☑️
ok so firstly I’m going to talk about Thomas cresswell because I have so much to say about this man, firstly I love love love loved his character Kerri maniscalco never disappoints with the men, Cresswell was written with the perfect amount of sass and seriousness to make him so sexy. Secondly we love a supportive man and no one is more supportive than mr Thomas cresswell, I swear he didn’t even try to hide the fact he was in love with Audrey rose, it may as well have been written on his forehead. He also gives kenergy
Next up we have our amazing anti-smoking queen Audrey Rose Wandsworth, this woman seriously wanted to get herself killed and I loved it, she was smart and brave without feeling the need to be loud and bitchy which (don’t get me wrong I still loved Emilia ) I found to not really like with Emilias character in kingdom of the wicked, her chemistry with Thomas was absolutely amazing, for anyone who hasn’t read the book and plans on it here’s what you should be expecting from these two:
Thomas: you’re doing that wrong, you unfairly attractive woman
Audrey: stfu you unfairly handsome man, I hate you get away from me with your lung cancer core shit.
Thomas: im sorry bbg, I’ll go buy you a perfume 🥺
Audrey: I love you, but I’m not telling you that so you’ll have to deal with I hate you for now
Thomas: ok
Audrey:…
Thomas:…..
Audrey and Thomas: *making out*
if your not into that then…… why aren’t you??
Anyway, the mystery was so complicated but also so easy to understand at the same time unlike tig (still loves it tho) where there was just too much added into the game.
⚠️THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART IT CONTAINED SOME VERY GROTESQUE STUFF THE MAIN CHARACTERS CHOP UP BODIES FOR A LIVING⚠️
overall, I loved this book but I definitely need something a bit lighter now so I will be re reading caraval because the last time I didn’t have any motivation and only read 3/4 of the book and what I did read I skimmed and I can’t remember anything that happens.

This year was about connection. Deep conversations. Multiplayer games. Obsessing over sim families. Streaming games for each other. I didn't read as much as I usually like to. I didn't write as much as I'd hoped. And I had far too many appointments. It was a busy year, in both wonderful and exhausting ways.
I don't know what the next year will bring. I said at the beginning of this year that I want to stop predicting. And I'm doubling down on that now. No goals, specific or vague. No set word of the year. No reading TBR or number goal. As much fun as those things can be, I only crave freedom right now. I want what's meant for me to find me at the right time. And I will, of course, note whatever those things are here.
Here are my 2022 Favorites. Thank you for being on this journey with me. ❤️

thebashfulpoet replied to your post “i just finished reading caraval and honestly??? overhyped, stupidly...”
Oh god don't get me started on that book! I read it last summer and it was the hugest disappointment ever. Like Night Circus my ass
EXACTLY like you would’ve thought it was so good because the marketing was really good and it was really hyped and people kept saying it was really nice and the cover was pretty eye-catching too and then you read it and the story just fell flat and the twists made no sense and ultimately, it was just something that i wish i never wasted my time on??? YES i don’t understand why people compare it to night circus like excuse me, at least night circus had a flow to the writing and i don’t know........... likable characters??????????

MAYBE DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ CARAVAL YET
So I'm reading it for the first time (almost finished) and i think it would be HILARIOUS if Scarlett wouldn't act exactly as Legend predicted.
I personally would get super annoyed with Julian ESPECIALLY when he said something like "At least I've never hit a woman." (ok mister bare minimum)
Legend watching me from afar as im trying to drown Julian like 5 secs after i've met him:
Tumblr media
This man would not let me set a foot in his magical city.
Idk i think it would be really funny if Scarlett was more insane than Legend.

on the topic of book bashing: never read the red queen series by victoria aveyard because oh my GOD does it suck so bad. all of the characters are garbage and the plot is painfully predictable. i honestly have no idea how it became popular bc it 100% shouldn't be holy shit
omg i remember this book being super popular on litblr and booktube a while back and i didn’t get the hype 🙆‍♀️😬 what made me wary was knowing that the people who recommended red queen enjoyed books i didn’t like, so i pretty much kept my distance from the series. I haven’t read it and even though it’s technically on my tbr i never really felt inclined to pick it up?? ya fantasy is not really my kind of thing and i have been struggling to find any ya fantasy that i like. thanks for the anti-rec, i appreciate it a lot bc now i definitely won’t bother checking it out!!
talk to me about the worst books you’ve read

hi there! any good book recs?
So many!!! I honestly can't keep track of what mutuals have read what, so I'm gonna make a list of books I think everyone should read.
A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro: Dark academia, descendants of Sherlock and Watson, has badass girls and very soft boys, very much YA, non-fantasy, murder!!
Timekeeper by Tara Sim: Gay Victorian England clock spirits. Good for a light read. Has an epic supporting mechanic gal
Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: Futuristic sci-fi & fantasy, vast majority of the leads are gals, fairy tale retellings but in the future, I have no clue how the MCs are still alive by the end of it
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas: Fantasy faerie world, once again: absolutely murderous girls and soft boys, but really everyone murders. If you like thieves and pirates and murder, this is the series for you. Also girls who like dresses while they murder, and a girl who dates multiple boys
All for the Game by Nora Sakavic: MURDER. MURDER AND MADE UP SPORTS AND PEOPLE WHO ARE INCAPABLE OF SHOWING LOVE BY MEANS OTHER THAN MURDER. Not fantasy(note: it's self published so it's not available at libraries)
The Folk of the Air by Holly Black: ....this is a reoccurring theme but murder!!! Also spying and strong girls and swords and ~enemies to lovers~
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo: soooo much diversity. Heists! Horrible people you love anyway! Plus sized flirty bi girls! Tall flirty bi boys! Magic!
Caraval by Stephanie Garber: if you like circuses or carnivals or The Night Circus, this is the book for you. A whole magical world gets set up on an island and there's tons of magic and pretty gowns
The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare (really the whole Shadowhunter Chronicles): The most diverse series she's written thus far, which is really really saying something. Murder! Strong women! Gays! Poly ship! Bilingual characters! Soft boys!
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas: If you're thinking, 'wow. no. im watching the ship wars and the antis kill each other so thank you but i wont read that' please know that there are plenty of perfectly fine normal fun fans here. the loud ones just like to scream. its got.....faeries!! strong women!! good depictions of trauma!! a girl who dates multiple boys! especially in the second book, there's women supporting women, accidently abusive relationships, women who like to be femme, women who don't, and, since it's a fave of mine, murder!!!
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater: I cannot put into words how much I love this series. Feminism! dumbass boys who are smart as fuck! a girl who dates multiple boys! bad boys with a heart of gold! a boy who looks like a cinnamon roll but literally shoots a man and frames another for murder! and oh yes. murder! murdermurdermurder. it's fantasy but set in this world.
Ok that went way long and I'm sure I've forgotten ones but I think we can determine that the two things I like in a book are strong women and murder ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what can you do
Thanks!!
