for me i see that she makes the first move in everything but not directly you can say? I mean in the armin is just cooking sm in the kitchen and she comes slowly from behind and hugs him and low key clinging to him and after that she just goes: “um..so whens your next promotion?”

Armin is more plan-oriented while Annie is more spontaneous, I feel. While he probably needs everything to be perfect for not only the proposal but also the wedding, if Annie wants to get marries she will get married come hell or high water

Being with Armin for a while does make her consider the circumstances and situations more just for his sake, but she'll still blurt out whatever's on her mind and I don't think Armin could ever get used to it or learn to predict it

I love how she's probably sooooo nervous about the little things in their relationship, like "can we hold hands" while her face is on fire, but then she'll ask him to marry her with the straightest face and at the most inappropriate time

Jean: You look depressed.

Armin: Eren went missing today.

Jean: So, he has been doing that a lot lately. Are you upset because you couldn’t find him?

Armin: No, I found him very quickly, he was under this tree that he liked to take a nap under when he was a kid. I was just shocked by the fact that he wasn’t alone.

Jean: Who was he with? Mikasa?

Armin: No he was with Queen Historia.

Jean: Why would he be with Historia?

Armin: They are in love with each other, I could tell by the way they looked at each other, touched each other, and kissed that they are soul mates. She is his other half in a way that neither me or Mikasa could ever be. I know it is silly, but I always thought that Eren would fall in love with Mikasa. I guess seeing that it will never happen makes me afraid about our future as friends. At the same time, Eren hasn’t been truly happy ever since he was ten years old and his mother killed. But when I saw him with Historia earlier, he was so happy. It would be wrong to demand that Eren leave the love of his life for Mikasa, but I also want to know why he is keeping this a secret.

*Armin stares sadly at his drink*

Jean: Hey, I am sure that Eren has his reasons for being so secretive about his love for Historia. I mean she is the Queen and he is a suicidal blockhead from Shiganshina, the nobles probably hope she picks one of their sons as her husband and finding out that she won’t be marrying into one of their families will make some of those stuffy nobles quite angry. I am sure that when Eren is able to, he will tell you. You two are not just his friends, you are his family.

I can understand where you're coming from. I've been in this fandom since 2013, and believe me, I've seen a ton of hate xD Where there are fans there are also antis, this is mostly an unavoidable phenomenon and the best we can do is accept it.

But anon, they key is to not give antis any leeway to come and camp out in your space. If you have something you love, be it a ship, a fandom, a hobby or anything, it's yours to love and enjoy. You don't have to let the antis come in and talk shit about it. You see them from the window, they're outside, but don't open the door.

Instead, invite in the people who feel the same way as you.

Tumblr is the only place I'm on, for fandom and community and pretty much everything else, but believe me, I see so many rancid posts here that I actually go: "what the actual fuck". Some of these posts spill into the 'Aruani' tag for no reason at all other than to incite a ship-war. It's really unnecessary and also annoying, but unfortunately some people feed off the drama.

Obviously, I can't block the tag, but if it's really getting to me, I block the user.

Done. I refresh my dash, see the Aruani community posting memes and art and headcanons and mini-fics and everything is still wonderful and fun and good.

despite the fandom and all the shipping, there's hardly any romance written into the plot of aot. that's just really not what the story is about. as far as i can recall there are only two romances that are confirmed - ymir/historia and eren/mikasa. and with those two romances we've seen how Isayama addresses canon relationships.

"i did it because i wanted to see you" is not the same as "marry me when all of this is over" or "i'll wrap [the scarf] around you as many times as you want." even if there is a canon mutual interest or whatever, it doesn't translate into a full blown relationship. we have seen how that looks and AA ain't it !

AA is the result of isayama making armin into his self insert and turning him into hero of the story. therefore he gets everything! fame, glory, undeserved compassion, and even the girl. it genuinely scares me sometimes to see how many people think that the shit armin says and does is moral or right... it makes me worried that they've never seen fascist propaganda before. it's actually quite dark when you think about it, but that's another post.

they're not canon, it's just subtext. you wanna know what other ship has lots of subtext? jeanfloch, but it's so fucking out of pocket that nobody takes it seriously. AA is literally that ridiculous when it comes to the plot of the story but the difference is that shippers are heteronormative as fuck.

My problem with aruannie is less that they look alike and more to do with the fact that it's just so bland and that the two of them have no chemistry.

I am struggling to understand the appeal of Aruarnnie. Especially when there are already better versions of those ships with those exact characters.

Soft boy x tough girl? Oh, you mean Armin x Mikasa and Bertolt x Annie?

Armin x Annie is objectively the most boring, uninteresting version of that ship dynamic. They barely have any interactions until the last season, which consists primarily of Armin visiting Annie while she's crystalized, but otherwise they have no personal connection, and nothing that draws them to each other. There's nothing in that ship that isn't done better in other ships, canon or fanon.

maybe it completely flew over my head while reading the manga but I don't get why Aruani is so popular and even seen as canon? No offense to the shippers, I just don't see a dynamic or even big Interactions between them to forge romantic feelings. Someone explain plss...

I may not be the best person to ask this though, as I feel kind of indifferent to this ship myself. I used to think that they had some nice chemistry and potential during the Who is the female titan? phase, even despite the fact that they didn't have that many interactions...but then, Annie spent most of the time in the crystal, and my interest in them fizzeled out (...not too even mention, it feels kinda weird how she was frozen for years and couldn't speak back to Armin).

I'm not against this ship (as I said, I actually quite liked it back in the days, just like Ereani), but I also feel like it could definitely use some more developement.

My opinion on the current situation and some characters in AOT

(DNI Eren and Armin stans)

I want y’all to know I’m a warrior stan. I will say it loudly and with my whole chest. Specifically I stan Reiner, Annie, Bertholdt, Pieck, Porco and Gabi. All of them are great characters and are very complex

I really don’t give a fuck about Eren at this point. He’s a great character and I really like his complexity, but I really am waiting for him to die because killing the entire world for something they didn’t do is entirely stupid and very childish.

I also strongly dislike Armin. He’s manipulative and I hate the way he treats Annie. Aruani is forced and I hate it. Annie deserves better than some chad looking ass guy. Armin so obviously dislikes her because of what she’s done – which is valid – and he’s taking advantage of her. It’s a terrible dynamic and I genuinely hope Annie finds happiness in her life that doesn’t involve Armin.

Mikasa is the only good person out of EMA in my opinion and I genuinely hope she lives on while Armin and Eren die in the end. Mikasa deserves happiness. Armin and especially Eren won’t be able to provide her that

Anyway, stan the warriors and definitely stan Annie and Mikasa

And Mikasa, well, she does what Mikasa does best and only thinks of Eren. I like how Armin calls that out to. "Think for yourself, for once."

"What about Eren?" Hmmmm. Yeah. What about Eren? How can we fail in reaching him once more? While our comrades die and fight each other. I mean, really. And Armin let's her have it.

He's stressed, and she is not helping. It's on Armin, it's on him to not let down the memory of Erwin. To not let his sacrifice die, and he's failing and that kills him. :(

He's also worried about Annie. She came out of her crystal, and he has no idea if those watching her have put a bullet in her brain or if she's turned into a titan and about to finish smashing the city.

I personally wouldn't have apologized to her. And what's worse, even after he goes, and he says that they should've brought Erwin back instead of him, Mikasa is STILL only concerned with that damn scarf.

Sigh.

You know, these points also touch on why I do NOT ship Eremika. She is so blindsided by him that she literally can't think of anything else. I understand you love him, but you have to keep a hold of who you are even without the other person. Armin needs help. He needs assistance in making these plans, and one friend is going on a rampage and the other is so wrapped up in the other that she's kinda no help.

And this isn't the first time either. I think this is the.. fourth time? Mikasa has completely overlooked everything to help or retrieve Eren. And it never ended well.

Look, I like Mikasa, but I like her better as a solo character. With Eren she's just blind and irrational. And honestly, I think she realizes this. And that's why she looks so solemn when Armin snaps at her.

Idk. Everyone has grown in this series. And some, not really in the way we expected, (Eren.) But Mikasa needs to bypass Eren and her obsession of protecting him.

Just wanted to show you this tweet from a japenese fan talking about aruani from the last attack pamphlet! I’m so excited aruani was mentioned and explicitly mentioned that they are in love but I’m a little worried that people will go with the tired narrative of “see they were shoehorned at the very end! They were so random” 😞

To me, it seemed like that they were saying that they begun their little actual love affair from here rather than just feelings being had that have been brewing, what do you think?

As for your concern, yeah I agree with you, it's exactly what you said at the end about the intent being that Aruani get to actually begin their relationship post-rumbling. It's not about their feelings at all. I think a lot gets lost in translation especially with Japanese so it's easy to assume that this info means something else.

That said we know that it's not the case so we can always help people who are confused about it. Imo Japanese AA fans in particular are very perceptive about the ship as a whole, with lots of them seeing the potential of AA very early on and shipping them since S1. So tweets like this rarely mean otherwise. If I'm not wrong, this particular twitter user has been an AA fan for a long time too? Their username seems familiar, tho I could be wrong about that bit.

That said it's possible that antis will latch on to this bit and come to annoy us again xD rather than get into arguments, we ignore them, that's all.
