I think doing the spinoff after Game of Thrones about the Dance of the Dragons was one of the worst decisions. Trying to tell the story of the Targs from a random point just doesn’t make sense, show viewers have no idea of what caused the dance up until this point.
If I was given the choice I would have started at Aegon I childhood, have him being told the fall of Valyria. Show how he was show to treat his sister as his lover and the damage it does to his mental psyche. Show the abuse cycle that he was born into and that he would be helping to continue.
I think starting at Aegon I would be better as it would be the beginning of how many know the Targs and would lead to better understanding of both the entire world of ASOIAF but the family dynamics as well.

Is this a fucking joke?!
ALICENT has never sacrificed anything?!
Alicent has sacrificed EVERYTHING
She sacrificed her choices and happiness for Otto by marrying the King. She sacrificed her friendship with Rhaenyra. She sacrificed her bodily autonomy to give the king a male heir. She sacrificed her own safety for the safety of her children. She was prepared to die by dragonfire for Aegon, sacrificing her own life for his
But no. She has never sacrificed anything. Everything has been handed to her on a silver platter according to these writers
Meanwhile wtf has Rhaenyra sacrificed? A random knight so she could marry Daemon? A ton of innocent people for more dragons? Those aren’t personal sacrifices the way Alicent’s are. She’s sacrificing other people for herself
Not the same at all
And everything she has, she has been handed on a silver platter. Daddy named her heir, despite her treason in passing off bastards as heirs to Driftmark. She fucked off to Dragonstone and still was heir. She got the Riverlands because of Daemon, not anything she did. She got the dragons through evil means. Alicent offers her everything she wants
It it’s Alicent who has never sacrificed anything?
And now she’s being forced by the writers to sacrifice her son; the person she did all this to protect. Now she’s choosing Rhaenyra because this is redemption to the writers instead of the character assassination that it is
At least Olivia tries to save what she can by making Alicent have a panic attack

Rhaenyra reminds me of those white moms who have kids with a different race father and then refuses to acknowledge that they don’t have the same privileges as her. like she’s had so much privilege and power her whole life she can’t even see the corner she’s just backed her child, her heir into. She’s so dense that it hurts. Jace is right. ALICENT was right. Having three fucking kids with a man whose genes had proved to curb stomp yours IS an insult! Not bc bastards are evil or anything, but it’s a fucking insult to Jace, to Luke, to Joffery to drag them in a situation where they’re constantly demonized for YOUR actions and then REFUSE to own up to it even when your child is begging you with literal tears in their eyes to not take the one thing that saves him from the bullying and harassment YOU brought onto them. At this point, I’m extremely grateful the story ends with the targs in disarray bc none of those white haired fuckers deserve the throne (except for Baela and Jace, with brown hair
And to make it even worse, Jace is RIGHT. When the war is over and your brown haired, pug nosed child who looks exactly like someone NOT his legal father is named heir and you’ve taken his ONLY symbol of legitimacy away what will you do then?? Hmm?? I swear…

To everyone saying ‘oh George should of solved this behind closed doors’ or ‘oh he should shut up and write winds’
I need you to listen closely. This is obviously his last resort. HBO and Condal have stopped listening to him. This is how he’s keeping influence over HIS work. This is HIS story. He is more than justified to be mad they’re changing it. This is his last attempt to get influence back over his work. He’s showing HBO he won’t be quiet anymore. They can’t walk over him like they did with GOT.
He’s also allowed to work on two things at once.

I haven't seen the reblogs or comments but I bet if a TB saw this they would say she was a toddler and toddlers don't grieve much. Which is bullshit.
Now I know this isn't anywhere NEAR what Jaehaera went through but here's a example of how they do grieve and they aren't afraid to show it.
My little cousin (who is like a little brother to me, legit calls my mom Mama Sarah and my dad, Dad.) When he found out one of our family dogs died he couldn't even breathe. He locked himself in a bathroom and sobbed his little heart out for hours. This was his best friend, they did everything together. It's been a couple years now and he still goes to where we buried him to talk to his grave. He isn't even 10 yet.
My point is, if a toddler can grieve like that for a dog then they most definitely can for a sibling they were close to.
Tumblr media
please correct me if i'm wrong, but did they ever actually refer to this sweet girl by her name at all? like once? lmao
if so, there is no excuse for it. none. jaehaera targaryen is helaena & aegon's daughter. she is alicent's granddaughter. otto's great-granddaughter. she is the daughter of rhaenyra's rival for the throne. she was jaehaerys TWIN. thematically, she is one of the reasons that demonstrates how the dance hurt innocents. she plays an important role in the ending of the conflict.
Tumblr media
i think this weird treatment of jaehaera (because yes, it is WEIRD) pmo because of the contrast to the respect that jace and joff got with regards to their grief for their own brother. not saying everything has been perfect, but the audience was still able to given a chance to feel their pain and sympathise with it.
jaehaera? nothing.
its another example of how these writers will treat female characters, even LITTLE GIRLS. because y'all cannot tell me there isn't something migoynstic in how a brother's grief (jace, joff etc) was honoured while a sister's grief was suspiciously absent in a season where they both suffer devastating losses.

george martin should be kinder with fanfic writers considering the fact that he gives his works to be adapted by people who do a worse job at writing his characters than his own fans

They erased Helaena’s gentleness, her belovednesd and her life-ending despair to give to Rhaenyra, they aged down Alicent and made her betray everything she loved for Rhaenyra, they made Cole sleep with Rhaenyra when he never did in the books because he held to his vows, they erased Mysaria’s flaws to make her a side piece for Rhaenyra, they erased Baela’s wildness and tomboyishness to have her be subservient to Rhaenyra, they erased Nettles to make sure Daemon never had a serious committment with anyone but Rhaenyra, they had the Velaryons ignore that Rhaenyra had caused the deaths of two of their members to be subservient to Rhaenyra, they had Laenor just fuck off and abandon everything so Rhaenyra wouldn’t get her hands dirty, they erased the Silent Five so Rhaenyra wouldn’t get her hands dirty, they made Vaemond’s death completely different so Rhaenyra wouldn’t get her hands dirty, they erased Rhaenyra’s racism and calling for a child’s death so Rhaenyra wouldn’t get her hands dirty, they erased Rhaenyra’s own opulence because sTrong InDePeNdAnT wOmEn cAnNot bE gIrLy, they erased Rhaenyra’s own desire for the throne
And I’m expected to believe this show favours Team Green.
Interesting.

Alicole was underwhelming, but B&C takes the cake as the worst adaptation of a single asoiaf/f&b event so far:
It was so rushed and whitewashed and did not focus on Helaena at all. Where is Helaena pleading for her son's life and offering up her own life instead? Where is Maelor whom Helaena was coerced to offer up as a sacrifice and does not bear to look at? Where is Heleana being forced to make a decision that haunts her entire life? She is obviously traumatized by what happened, but having her just say "they killed the boy" does not do her character and her grief justice. I really hope we get to see more of Helaena in episode 2 because it would be really upsetting if the show just brushes her off.
Not to mention Alicent's absence from the events of B&C. Alicent was really there, worried for her daughter's and grandchildren's lives, and was the first person to offer Helaena some comfort and consolation. The more I think about it the more mad I get because we got robbed of what could have been a truly harrowing and distressing scene that would do the events and the characters justice. Book!B&C was about two mothers and their shared agony, pain, and grief. It could have been powerful and shocking from an acting perspective alone if they had followed the events of the book.

one of the things that bothers me this season, is that they used jaehaerys' death for the daemon targaryen character arc.
rather than to show aegon's full rage potential, helaena's awakening to the power of her dreams or aemond's reaction.
