I stan nobody but if I stan anyone I stan Candice Patton and her Iris West. The absolute hailstorm of racism, misogynoir, trauma and alienation this lady and her character has been subjected to from the get-go is unreal. And yet for nine whole years she breathed beauty and warmth and genuineness into her character, even when delivering the worst lines of dialogue she was made to say that she knew would cause huge backlash (apologies for linking Screen Rant. Broken clock etc.). She co-founded "Shethority" with her friends Maisie Richardson Sellers and Caity Lotz in the wake of the Kreisberg scandal. And she always put herself on the line to speak out and hold her bosses accountable as much as possible.
All this while her character was barely allowed to kiss her co-star onscreen, let alone act with the same casual sexuality of any other married TV couple in a 7pm slot, under the guise of The Flash being a "family show". My heart broke for how utterly worn down and traumatized she was by the end, because not only did Berlanti Studios or the CW not protect or accommodate their Black artists and those of colour, they're also known for subjecting them to racist, misogynistic harrassment and severe exploitation of even their white male talent. This woman wasn't allowed a Black hairdresser or makeup artist for eight seasons, was only allowed to show her natural hair on-screen after five years, and had to watch her black co-stars being sidelined, suppressed and subjected to all manner of indignity with little space to offer solidarity or speak out (I don't care if Berlanti hired them for Love, Simon, the way his fucking studio treated Keiynan Lonsdale was a crime). Even her co-star Grant Gustin only woke up and came to her defence against the online abuse hurled her way eight years in.
Berlanti has cultivated a wholly unearned reputation as an envelope-pusher for the gay community in the entertainment industry, while playing it so safe that the gay couples in his shows are barely allowed to make out– the same way they treat interracial couples with one white partner. His buddy Kreisberg finally met his downfall after sexually harrassing the female workers in his shows for four years, but Marc Guggenheim, Wendy Mericle and Geof Johns are also known racists and misogynists. Even after Stephen Amell's breakdown, Ruby Rose going public with her physical trauma, firing Superman and Lois's Black writer Nadria Tucker, numerous attempts by Black actresses to speak on their working conditions in the CW, and the consistent bald misogyny, ableism and racism of these shows' storylines, the white queers in fandom continue to valorize Berlanti. Now with the release of Red, White and Royal Blue on Amazon Prime in August, again using a Mexican director and characters of colour to use QPoC fans as a shield and buttress, Berlanti's stock is going to be even higher.
The Flash had the potential to be a truly great show, and Candice's Iris West a real foothold for Black actresses and interracial romances in the white-dominated TV entertainment industry. Instead it was just another opportunity for it to grind them to dust. Just like so many other Black women and WoC who try to lead the charge. But through it all, Ms. Patton held the line. Y'all never deserved her. I hope she gets to heal and move onto projects that value her and allow her her full range of voice and expression, that recognizes and rewards her incredible talent and work ethic.
Fuck Berlanti, fuck the CW and fuck DCtv.

With help from the Green Arrow and his team, the Throwing Star Killer is now behind bars, and our streets are a little safer. Tomorrow, we'll take another step forward. The day after, we will take another one."

I asked about karolsen getting retconned in season 2 in favour of mayo el. mehcad brooks basically said he had the same question and that it was due to how certain people saw the show who are no longer there (which sounds like kreisberg). I also called man hell a misogynistic piece of crap which was maybe ill-advised lmao.

Me before it was revealed that Guggenheim is a sexist, misogynistic, pig to every female character:
Me after it was revealed that Kreisberg sexually harasses his female co-workers, real women, and has been getting away with it for years:
Me when I found out Kreisberg is already on suspension:
Me after it was revealed that Guggenheim has approved of Kreisberg’s behavior and is jealous of him; and is also a sexist, misogynistic, pig to *real women*:
Me protecting Katie Cassidy and Danielle Panabaker from the stans trying to accuse them of sleeping into their jobs:
Me when Guggenheim thinks he is safe from being on the on the chopping block:

To all the olicity fans who are now USING THE DCTV SEXUAL HARASSMENT SCANDAL as a means to unjustly hate Katie Cassidy because she apparently knows Kreisberg’s wife; y'all are fucking trash.
These same people are the ones who cheered on Guggenheim (who is now also outed as a predator) every time he furthered their agenda despite those actions also stinking of misogyny.
Direct your anger at the culprits and take a good long look in the fucking mirror and recognize where your support has strengthened a toxic man’s platform, and your consistent need to hate Katie for breathing quite often overlaps with your support of that man.
It’s really not too far a stretch to assume that you need to in some way blame or project onto Katie because you recognize that you turned a blind-eye to a lot of the red flags in Guggenheim’s case because they helped further a narrative you supported where Katie was concerned. Maybe its easier for you to pretend shes somehow magically at fault than it is for you to self-evaluate. But this isnt about things being easy for you. Check your-fucking-selves.

have you seen the post that says: any DC show: *does something horrible* Fandom: Guggenheim
I haven’t, but big fucking mood, anon. guggenheim and kreisberg can both choke as far I’m concerned. their shitty executive decisions have meant characters have been assassinated both figuratively and literally. kreisberg is almost definitely the reason why ralph exists as he does on flash and why mon el was so awful on sg. so yeah. I feel this post a lot even if I haven’t seen it lol.

WA’s Aftermath in 5x18
There are 3 things that will happen to them when the show comes back.
1. The heated argument leading to their divorce. The only realistic scenario after Nora's betrayal scene. Story-wise it makes perfect sense because the show has been building WA to go nowhere. It’s the only ship I know that is built on sand. They wrote Viris to be an utter virus, controlling and manipulating bitch and made Barry her bitch along the way. Barry's reaction to Nora's exposing was finally a moment where Viris had no control over. Barry reacted like any normal person let alone father would to finding out their own flesh and blood had been lying to their face this entire time. Divorce seems to be headed for WA anyway and I find this choice the most likely, if they are smart with their writing, it's inevitable. 2. The heated argument leading to Barry's submission to Nora and Viris' toxic behavior. This one can happen out of fear. The writers are deathly afraid to pull the plug on WA breaking up over fake racist accusations. Being a Snowbarry shipper, I can tell you that I sympathize with them, but only to an extent. The show has lost a lot of money in marketing, advertising and overall budget due to SJW identity politics pandering and they have to be smart with their business decisions to benefit the future of the show. Because right now, WA still being together, Viris still attached to Barry, controlling his every action, thought and friendship circle, doesn't look good to the regular viewers who just want to want a decent superhero show. You can see it in Grant's eyes whenever he’s near Danielle and Carlos, he wants the show to return to its roots. Snowbarrisco, Barry's CSI, science jargon, good action sequences and solid story telling. WA and now their kid have taken over too much of the show for too long. If they choose this, it’s suicide made over fear of a bullying group of loud race baiting losers. 3. Nothing happens. The "heated exchange" gets abruptly interrupted. I fear this one might happen for a couple of reasons and it's the same reason why I attack Todd Helbing and the writers constantly. When is anything going to be resolved on the show? When are things going to be explained in the story in real time? When are the writers going to stop making excuses due to time restraints, useless pep talk drama and C plots hogging over what we really want to see? Todd is a shitty show runner who doesn’t plan his ideas. The problem was he was thrown into the head chair due to what happened with AJK, which ironically, when he was the main show runner, it was more tolerable. With a new show runner for next season, I hope this doesn't happen and they will explain key elements to their story arcs without confusing their audience. The WA mishap should have been resolved a long time ago. Perhaps this option won't happen and #1 is what takes place. One can only hope the writers and show runner care enough to give us what we want with the scenes and characters.
With Danielle Panabaker directing and editing the episode, I have high hopes but we should all be prepared for any scenario that may come about.
Support the episode when it airs on April 16th 8pm ET.
