I need everyone who defends natla's writing to raise their standards because the current entertainment industry takes advantage of your "anti criticism" mindset and gives us mediocre shit like this😭

Hey guess what!? It gets EVEN WORSE!
Katara apparently had “gender issues” in the original show? Aang’s avoidance tendencies are now gone? Netflix themselves making creative decisions? This sounds like it’s definitely gonna be good and not a braindead adaptation that removes all the character from the original!!!
I pray for the perpetual Netflix cancellation more each day.

its very ironic that both pjo and atla got remakes this year bc fans of both series complained about the previous movies being horrible and inaccurate and now the tv shows arent even a step up from the movies. thats the power of disney and netflix for ya

So I’m halfway through NATLA, and…honestly most of the stuff I dislike is stuff I’ve seen other people address.
But here’s something no one is talking about and it’s baffling to me:
NATLA Iroh is so bizarrely OOC?? He’s too stern around Zuko (people are saying their relationship is a highlight?? Where?? All he’s been with Zuko is stern!!), he’s only his goofy self in flashbacks and with Aang…AND something else:
[Spoilers for Episode 4: Omashu] (if anyone cares about that 💀 you shouldn’t)
There’s a scene in which Iroh is confronted by the brother of someone he killed at Ba Sing Se. Not directly, but because of his actions.
Now, Iroh in the cartoon would be apologetic toward this man and take responsibility for what he did. Iroh here, though?:
“I was a soldier.”
BFFR!! YOU WERE A MF GENERAL!!
Oh and it gets worse:
Iroh: “War pushes us to do terrible things.”
EK Man (he’s sadly unnamed): “Is that your pathetic idea of an apology?”
Iroh: “I wasn’t talking about me”
THE MF AUDACITY OF THIS MAN!!
And mind you, this is after the EK guy poured his heart out about his dead 19-year-old brother!! Talked about how there was nothing left to bury, how he could still smell the smoke!! NATLA Iroh could not summon a mf ounce of sympathy!!
I just…ugh. This show isn’t good, but this is especially egregious. And although I won’t talk about NATLA too much, I had to complain about this
Also, to reiterate, all y’all who are praising the Zuko-Iroh dynamic are liars ✋ where?? Where is the gentleness?? Where is the concern?? IT’S NOT THERE
Iroh is gentler in flashbacks and toward Aang than toward his own nephew in the mf present 💀 how are they gonna pull off Zuko’s redemption arc

the atla live action remake reminds me of spop, they're just changing everything from the original. at what point does it just turn into a completely different story? isn't it better to just start off with your own original series with original characters instead of trying to readapt a beloved classic?

Netflix after "removing Sokka's sexism😤" while also removing Katara's righteous anger and making Sukki's arc about Suki learning from Sokka for just existing:

Do you ever notice that these dark and edgy remakes that are trying be more serious than the original source material always end up with dialogue that’s way more goofy and ridiculous?

Even male heroes can’t be flawed anymore. Changing aang running away from his home because he couldn’t deal with being the next avatar to aang just walking away to clear his mind ruins his whole character. It also makes him less relatable and more generic.

I've literally never understood the need for a live action ATLA. Book adaptations are one thing, like of course I'd want to see page adapted onto screen. But, and maybe it's because I grew up watching the cartoon, when it comes to Avatar I've always been like, 'Why does it need another onscreen adaptation to capture the magic that the OG show had? I could literally just rewatch the OG show????'

why why why are they sanding down the characters' rough edges. what does that accomplish. why are they not allowed to have flaws. why are they not allowed to grow.

i really hope none of you avatar netflix fans come crawling back for the movie, sorry. i don’t wanna share this with people confusing watered down fanfiction with actual canon.
(we already have enough of those in this fandom)
((not to mention the disgusting whitewashed art starting to float around. have y’all no shame?))
