She was positive he was aiming for perfect, and he'd just end up beating himself up the first time something didn't go the way it was expected to. If he hadn't already been in that exact situation before now.

"Well, typically, if your kid is smiling, coming to you to talk about things, and says they're really happy with you or love you, I'm going to guess you're doing it right. Another method, not as tried and true, is to ask yourself would Anthony DiNozzo Sr. do this? If he would, don't do it. Not foolproof, but it's a good starting point if you know there are things he did that you'd never want to do."

She smiles gently, trying to reassure him because she wants this for Tony. She wants him to be happy, and to enjoy being a father. It's clear he already does, he's just nervous like any new parent.

What did it say about him that praise from his therapist made him want to preen? Was he so desperate for positive words, to know that he was doing a good job, that he would take the praise from his therapist and drink it down like a man who was dying of dehydration? He didn't like thinking about it, didn't like acknowledging that what she said had an affect on him at all. That was too much to reveal in one session, especially after everything else he'd inadvertently revealed today.

"I'm not aiming for perfect, doc. I know not to even try." That was a lie, he definitely was aiming for perfect, his browser history would attest to that. He'd read every parenting handbook he could get his hands on, even the ones that looked suspiciously old school. "I just want to make sure she leaves my care capable of taking care of herself and knowing her value. I want her to be confident."

And that was the truth. He wanted Leila to be comfortable in her own skin, to ooze confidence and self-assuredness. He wanted her to know that she could do anything she wanted to, that she was worth the world.

"How do I know I'm doing that? Is there some sort of magic sign?"
