Random Irken Biology Headcanon:

Irken antennas have millions of tiny, coarse, shiny, densely-packed hairs that allow them to detect vibrations easier, much like a cat's whiskers.

The antennas feel smooth when touched from base to tip, but they feel a bit fuzzy when touched from tip to base (which is kinda weird to feel, to be honest. It's like rough velvet but hairy).
