SABEZRA WEEK: Day 1 (Oct 23): In Between
*Ten years is a long time. A lot can happen, a lot can change. As Sabine Wren settles into a routine on Lothal, she reflects on what has changed since that fateful day, both with the galaxy at large and regarding her feelings for Ezra.*
For all her life, Sabine Wren had known action and movement. Mandalorian upbringings were full of activity by their nature, and the realities of life on the Ghost meant that staying still could be disastrous. She had gotten used to being on the move, never staying in one spot too long (not for lack of trying), and her schedule being determined almost exclusively by the mission of the day or the Empire's less-than-wanted input on the subject. All of that together, it was just one of the numerous things that made her current situation alien and unusual for her.
She had initially been content with a small apartment in Lothal City, but the comm tower seemed to loom over her in more ways than one. In what seemed like no time at all, she had moved into the tower.
Ezra's tower.
She had been living here for a few years now, and in that time she had taken up the surprisingly alien notion of a schedule. Wake up, feed the Loth-cat, check the filtration systems, tune up the speeder, head into town for whatever groceries or parts she needed, train and exercise, eat, shower, go to bed. Rinse and repeat. Social calls were few and far between, though that only made the occasional meeting with Ryder a very welcome departure from the norm.
This isn't to say that Sabine was completely out of the loop for what was happening beyond Lothal. She had kept up with every scrap of news on the Rebellion she could find, scouring for any mention of Hera, Zeb or Rex. She had stood in shock with everyone else when news of Alderaan reached their ears. She had waited with baited breath as the rebellion grew into a full-blown galactic war. She had been especially interested in the rumors of a new Jedi joining their ranks.
Yet that last point also made her other ruminations more painful. Even if she hadn't been literally living in his house, Sabine knew she could never get her mind off of Ezra. Of all the incredible things that had happened that day, the most powerful blow remained that he was gone. Ezra, Specter 6, the loth rat stowaway, the annoying kid of the team, the up and coming Jedi Padawan, the rising star of Phoenix Squadron, her crewmate, her partner, her best friend...
And the thing that gnawed at her most of all, was her musings that he may be something more.
As she poured kibble into Murlay's bowl, Sabine thought back to a conversation she had once had with her brother. A conversation that she had vehemently denied was anything more than Tristan teasing her. And yet she still kept coming back to it.
“So he is a friend.”
“No duh, osik-head.”
“And he’s a boy.”
“That doesn’t make him my-!“
“Seems like it does.”
“We’re just friends! Nothing more!”
“Seems like you’re a little more than friends.”
“We’re not!”
Were they?
Despite her insistence, Sabine had ended up painting a (if she did say so herself) pretty impressive portrait of the young Jedi. When he had returned to Krownest mere weeks later, it had taken every ounce of her willpower to keep herself from running over to hug him. Was that something you did if you were just friends?
Well, Sabine had been mulling it over for six years now, and she was nowhere closer to an answer than before. Even the multitude of conversations she had had with Hera had never ventured to discission how she was starting to feel about her wayward friend. An impromptu interview with a rising star of the Rebellion with a vested interest in Jedi had turned semi regular whenever he was in the system, yet some of her ruminations left her even less sure than she had been before. And that didn’t even begin to account for what he might be thinking. If he was even-
Sabine stopped herself. Thinking like that would only set her even further off course. No, Ezra was not dead. He was out there somewhere. And one way or another, she would bring him home, with or without help. This she swore.
Scratching Murlay behind the ears as he started to eat, Sabine rose to her feet and made her way to a small box under the bed. Rummaging through the contents, she found what she had been looking for. Of all the things that had been added to her routine, lightsaber training was certainly one of the more unique. She had added the emitter shroud herself to satisfy an urge to tinker, but it was otherwise the same as when he had left it to her all those years ago. Walking out onto the balcony, Sabine took a deep breath and ignited the emerald blade. She took herself through a few practice velocities, nothing fancy or significant, but enough for the dancing blade to do its surprisingly calming magic. Ahsoka had told her that some Jedi could use their lightsaber sequences to facilitate a form of moving meditation, where the repetition of the action gradually became instinctive, enabling the Jedi to dedicate their mental energies to other tasks. Sabine wasn’t quite sure she could get to that point (Hyuyang certainly didn’t think so), but it was close enough.
Some day she would find him. Some day she would bring him home. Between now and then, she would do what she had been doing. Who knows? She might even figure out just what Ezra Bridger meant to Sabine Wren.
And when that day finally came; well, she always had a knack for finding the appropriate time for fireworks.

Rebels Rewatch: "Kindred"
Do you think Filoni has hit peak wolves yet? Lol.
Live reaction version.
Soft Kanera moment is Soft.
And brings up some interesting questions that don't really get fully answered. What was the inextricable pull that kept drawing them back to Lothal again and again, even before they met Ezra? Was it the Lothal Temple, and by extension the gateway within? Was it some kind of connection Kanan had to Lothal? Was it his planet of origin too? He was able to manifest through the Force as one of the wolves after his death after all.
It's not something that's fully played out, this plot thread, I think perhaps owing to the writers having to shorten the last season down to 16 episodes, more akin to Season One, so it's ultimately left an ambiguous mystery.
Pryce having the realization that she's not actually Thrawn's Favorite lol.
Ruhk is accompanied by appropriately menacing drums and woodwinds. Fun fact: Warwick Davis apparently bullied Filoni into giving him this role lol.
You don't even know it's him the voice is so good.
Ruhk's movements are also excellent. He hunches, only straightening when he needs to smell, easily goes down on all fours to lope across the plain like an animal. His run cycle is like some kind of perverse feline or gorilla. There's a bestial quality to him. Unlike his Legends incarnation, which depicts him as more hulking and burly, this version is deceptively small but stocky, solid and almost wirey-looking. It's a great creature design.
The Noghri assassin is also immediately, extremely competent, identifying Zeb in the area by scent at once, probably detecting it lingering on Ezra's scout trooper armor and launching immediately into a surprise attack. He has Ezra flipped onto the ground in a leglock within seconds.
He then charges Jai, forcing Ezra to reveal himself as a Jedi with a hefty Push.
I'm sorry I'm cackling at Zeb sneaking around literally behind Pryce's back. This is why Thrawn replaced you, lady.
<333
The chase scene is brief and kind of basic but does the job. And OH BOY now we're at another Weirdass Kanera Walkback Conversation, with Kanan suddenly pushing for reassurance about what kind of future Hera wants after all the fighting and whether he's a part of it and what her feelings actually are towards him.
Right, so the way I reconcile this one is that Kanan is starting to sense the stirring, growing life inside Hera and is trying to roundabout confront her to think about what this means for them. And at this point she knows, but she doesn't know he knows, and is still trying to hold him at arm's distance while she mentally processes the discovery and how to tell him.
Because what do you mean, "Do I [know how you feel]?" this was clearly already a settled issue! WHY ARE YOU ASKING THAT QUESTION LIKE YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW? YOU GUYS ARE SPACEMARRIED AARRRRHGKJHGJ.
So yeah, moving on.
There's a great moment where Ryder almost shoots Zeb that makes me lol and then after we've installed our hyperdrive the Empire makes a hasty exit from the area necessary, again, owing to Ruhk's incredible competence.
Hera, perhaps feeling the need to reassure Kanan of her affections and devotion since he's acting so rattled, finally plants an onscreen one on him.
This is clearly not the first time they have kissed. Possibly the first time they've done it this publicly, as Sabine immediately nudges at the others to look, but this is practiced and comfortable, seasoned, if you will.
:))))
Like I said the previous rewatch, I don't understand being secretive to normies then but being okay guiding them all out of danger now. I dunno, maybe it took Ezra befriending the one for the others to decide, "Oh okay, they have Jedi, they're cool. Let's help them."
"How have you people stayed alive so long?!" The literal will of the Force, Ryder, lol.
"We're going to finish them my way." Which is, per Pryce tradition, bombing the living shit out of things.
~ANYTHING TLJ DID, REBELS DID BETTEEEEEEERRRR~
The chiming from before continues throughout this sequence, so now we have something in the score to musically denote the wolves.
Kanan, come on, you should know by now this is his "thing".
Yeah so this is one of the sequences where the wolves just kinda DO things and the show doesn't really explain why because ~mysterious~. Why did they want Kanan? Were they checking to make sure there was a Master/Padawan pair? Do they recognize him as one of their own kind since they keep repeating "Dume"? How do they know Kanan's former name? What do the cave paintings mean?
*shakes writers*
ANSWER ME DAMMIT!
Kanan and Sabine inexplicably switching places so that Ezra can hold Sabine's hand again. XD
As frustrating as the mystery of the Loth-wolves can be sometimes, this sequence is hella cool. Blue light igniting the depths of the tunnel, Ezra's eyes reflecting it like the hyperspace eyes he got with the purrgil...
Soft white footsteps on inky liquid blackness. The muted sound, as if from far away.
The only truly trippy part that throws me is the little grassland shot in the middle of it all, with the white Loth-cat.
But whatever the wolves did, it worked. Our heroes have now been literally teleported out of danger. The Force Theme rings out to confirm the wonder of it all.
There's even some kind of actual structures here, an abandoned mountain village maybe?
It's also really pretty. Per standard for this show lol.
"Babe, you are holding back on me."
The chimes again, I'm pretty sure that's a specific instrument but for the life of me the name of it is escaping me, but it's denoting the wolves again, as they move back into the cavern. I do recognize the harp glissando there, though.
*sits on hands, sighs, bites lip about how I hate mystery boxes, especially ones that don't open*
Kanan dropping the first hints that the wolves are the guardians of Lothal, Force entities specifically assigned to protect the planet because of the gateway to the WBW, whose energies they can also tap into and use, which is now under threat by Palpatine personally.
...Yeah you know what, we'll go with that.
And of course after hearing Kanan express faith that Hera made it out we confirm that ourselves.
Good job love.
So. This episode gets weird. The kind of anime mind-trippy weird that used to be way too dense for me to parse through. (Still have a hard time of it, in fact, I dunno what it is Japanese directors just kind Do They Thing and don't bother explaining much, they just vibe.) But on the rewatch it does seem clearer that--aside from the elements in the wider plot they were going to explore about Kanan that Freddie Prince Junior hinted at in interviews that probably got severely cut out with the episode trim--most of the weirdness is actually misdirection in order to set up the wolves as Special Force Entities who need Very Specific Jedi Help to save the World Between Worlds.
The wolves don't come out and say this yet, probably very cautious and testing Kanan and Ezra out to see if they're worthy, but the implications are already there.
Oh, and I guess this episode made Kanera shippers happy too, or something. Happy for y'all, enjoy it while it lasts.
Next time, our last little bit of fun before shit hits the fan.

What if...? Sabine meets Moff Gideon?
(This is part of my story from my book called Star Wars The Last Wren. Only on Wattpad.)
Sabine sneaked past the guards that were patrolling in the area. Apparently, Ryder had forgotten to mention that the guards were droids. But it was easy enough for Sabine to get by them since droids are dumb enough to not check their surroundings that's why the droid army lost the clone wars before they got shut down and the Empire rose to power from the shadows of the grand army of the republic. Sabine was almost close to the cell that Moff Gideon was at. But there were two security droids up front. Guarding the cell where the war Imperial was in. Wren groaned in annoyance as she took out two of her Droid Poppers that she got from her old friend Rex. She rolls the two poppers on the ground as they keep rolling towards the security droids as they both notice the poppers and look down at them as the droid poppers. Before they could react, the Droid poppers went off and shut down the droids as they both fell down. Sabine chuckles to herself and walks out of hiding and headed towards the door panel. She took out the keycard and inserted a card into the panel, and it automatically opened the door as she put the keycard back into her pocket before entering the room where the moff was in.
Sabine saw a glass container in front of her and saw the man who destroyed her planet and murdered her family and clan. The moff turned around and saw her in front of him. “I'm guessing you're here to interrogate me?” Moff Gideon said as Sabine shook her head and closed the door behind them and stayed in the shadow and walked in circles of the glass container slowly while looking at the murderer of her people. “No.. I'm here for answers on the planet Mandalore. The planet you purged.” Sabine replied with a venomous voice of her hatred. The Moff scoffed at her. “I did what I had to do. Besides, those Mandalorians were tough to beat when they were united. But they can't stay united for long. Not after I took the Darksaber from Bo-Katan Kryze, after I offered her the terms of surrender, and yet she fell into my trap as I had a Bombing squadron blow up the dome city.” Moff Gideon said Sabine stopped walking in circles as she grabbed a chair and pulled up to her. She sat down and folded her hands as she looked at the Moff again. “What was the purpose of purging the planet?” Sabine asked yet again but stayed calmed and remained in the shadows still. But her blood boiled with rage. But she still tried to remain cool. “For its resources. The Beskar mines to take for the empire and use it against all Mandalorians and the New Republic. I had a Dark Trooper program that I was working on.. Until a Mandalorian along with Bo-Katan Kryze, a Rebel Dropper, and bounty Hunter who ruined the Project. All of my Dark Troopers were destroyed by a Jedi. Who goes by the name: Luke Skywalker.” Moff Gideon said Sabine had heard of Luke Skywalker. But he was no better than her old friend Ezra… the thought of Ezra was making her mind flooded with memories of him. She would do anything or even trade the Entire galaxy just to find him again and bring him home…
Sabine Sadly had to shake the thought of Ezra out of her mind for now and focus on her answers from the moff himself. “Good. You deserve it anyway… but.. Death would've been better for the blood of all Fallen Mandalorians and even my clan.” Sabine said as she got up from the chair as Moff Gideon was confused at first after hearing her say “My Clan” Moff Gideon finally put the pieces together and looked at her. “Well, the new Republic had their own Mandalorian on their side. How much are they paying you to hunt Remnants like me.” Moff Gideon said as Sabine walked out of the shadows as his eyes widened in shock as the Moff recognized her. “Not enough. In fact… I'm planning to leave this organization soon.” Sabine stepped closer to the glass container. “You killed my family, my clan, and my home! You've taken everything from me and to all Mandalorians!” Sabine said as she slammed both of her fists on the Glass as the Moff didn't flinch from her anger. But only laughed at her pain and suffering. “They all died doing what they needed to do.. while you stayed here worrying about your friend.” Moff Gideon said, Sabine's eyes widened as it only made Gideon chuckle at her. And continued, “I've heard of your crew before during the days when the Rebellion was rising. But we were at their weakest point. All because of you and your friends that ruined everything for the Imperial army. Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, Zeb Orrelios, and Ezra Bridger-” “KEEP HIS NAME OUT OF YOUR KRIFFING MOUTH!!” Sabine yelled angrily as the Moff struck a nerve to her and smiled at the angrily mando. “A Mandalorian and Jedi being friends during this war? What a joke. The Mandalorians were ancient enemies to the Jedi once. I am surprised that you and your two Jedi friends haven't killed each other during your uprising.” Moff Gideon said “That is because I owed my life to those two Jedi's. We were like a family.” Sabine said as it only made Gideon groan in annoyance. “Not all families stay together. Unlike your friend Bridger, who the empire took away his parents at the age of 6. And killed during the prison riot.” Gideon said.“Because of you, he was suffering from it. I made it my mission to make all Imperials suffer!” Sabine snarled at the moff “If you weren't locked up in this glass case, I would gladly rip the very flesh off your bones!” She added.
“I assumed every Mandalorian would gladly love your opinions. Even though I destroyed your home.” The Moff replied. Sabine looks at him with dagger eyes as she is very tempted to break this glass and strangle him and make him pay for the deaths of her family and clan. But if she did that, it would trigger the security alarm, and the new republic droids will come straight to the room and even activate the security defense system as well. Sabine calmed herself down for a minute and then continued her conversation with the moff. “What were you planning to do with all of that, Beskar?” Sabine asked Moff Gideon only gave her an evil smirk on his face. “A new Dark Trooper project. That will intentionally wipe out the New Republic and all Mandalorians as well.” Gideon explained as he chuckled to himself. “And after that, I will find Grand Admiral Thrawn and bring him here to finish what he started. And if Bridger is with him… I will kill him and make you watch him die in front of you.” Moff Gideon added that Sabine snapped and punched the glass as it cracked.
“If you ever did that! I will hunt you down to the ends of the Galaxy! No place will be safe, and not even your precious Empire will protect you from me for long!” Sabine growled as she removed her fist from the glass and decided she had enough talk with the moff. She turned away from him and walked away from him before she was about to exit out of the room until the Moff said something to her.
“Till Me, Sabine Wren… will you make the ultimate sacrifice of finding your precious friend? And not care for the galaxy just to be with him once again.”
He said as Sabine didn't say anything else and walked out of the room only to leave Moff Gideon with a smile on his face. As he knows that Sabine would intentionally make that choice…
Trading the Entire galaxy all just to see her friend again.
(Thank you for reading this. What if/part of my story from Star Wars The Last Wren, which is Sabine's solo story that takes place during the Mandalorian series and before the Ahsoka series. Here is the link if your interested in reading, i am still working on chapter 4, but I'm almost done.)
(Till then, have a nice day!)

Star Ware Rebels Bechdel Test Rewatch- 4x11 'Dume'
Plot
Following the loss of Kanan, the Ghost crew looks for direction and answers.
Female Characters: 3
Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Arihnda Pryce
Male Characters:
Ezra Bridger, Zeb Orrelios, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Rukh, Ryder Azadi, Jai Kell
Droid Characters: 1
Chopper
Does it pass?
Yes, this episode passes at the very end when Sabine and Zeb return to base. Sabine tells Hera that while their mission to disrupt the parade failed, they learned that production had ceased on the TIE Defender due to the loss of the fueling depot.
I did a Rebels rewatch at the height of the pandemic... but I couldn't bring myself to watch this episode and therefore didn't actually complete my rewatch. So, I haven't seen this or any of the subsequent episodes since 2019 I believe.
In a lot of ways, this episode is more emotionally devastating as we see the Spectres cope with losing Kanan. Chopper taking Hera's hand gets me every time.
Also is the Loth-Wolf supposed to be Kanan? It's never been clear to me.

Hm okay Eric isn't by the book per se, he's about the job and the bottom line, rules are more guidelines and for other people to follow.
Or for pointing at when he feels like it.
So he has no trouble breaking and bending a few rules. He just doesn't stand for insubordination and such. Or crew members getting too casual. The tempest is initially a nightmare for him.
#Ezra *loves* the tempest and all of his friends#he walks around in boxers unbothered#answers vid calls half naked#Eric Ryder

I just realized something, and it's messing me up a little bit. And making me wonder just how much thought Dave Filoni didn’t put into Ezra's trauma. I've already been displeased with what Filoni has done to him, but I just realized this when answering a comment on a fic:
Ezra goes through the trauma of losing his parents and parental figures not once, not twice, not even three horrible times, but seven times:
1) the first time his parents get captured 2) Gall Trayvis telling him they're dead 3) watching Kanan die by the Grand Inquisitor's hand in a Force vision in the Jedi Temple on Lothal 4) Ryder Azadi telling him his parents really are dead 5) watching Kanan die 6) watching Kanan die AGAIN in the World Between Worlds 7) leaving with Thrawn's fleet
What the...actual F is this

fave and least fave people on campus?
Are you really too stupid to have figured this out for yourself? Lovey and Emery are obviously my ride or dies, with Rebekah, Ryder and Noah rounding out the top five. Ezra would probably get a spot too if he didn’t insist on near-constant social isolation; and I suppose Keegan would be close to the top if he pulled his head out of his ass. In case you haven’t noticed, William and I are barely speaking anymore; Frankie and I are acting like the other doesn’t exist; and as Lovey’s best friend, Katherine and I are definitely not on the best terms.

Aching Flames
Imagine the purgill took away the seventh fleet leaving only the Chimaera to crash, and the Rebellion captures Thrawn.
This is a bit of AU or an Alternate ending you can say. Imagine that Ezra and Thrawn didn't disappear but the rest of the seventh fleet did. The Chimaera crashes, and the crew rushes to save Ezra and captures Thrawn.
Fandom: Star Wars Rebels
Words: 1265
______
__
"Ezra!, Ezra get out of there right now, that's an order!" Hera cried in her commlink and her eyes stared at the stardestroyer catching flames where one of her family is stuck there. The purgills surrounding the falling ship while their tentacles are glowing, preparing to jump to lightspeed. Hera prayed that the force would save Ezra, she is not ready to lose him too.
On the other end of the comm link, Hera heard shaky breaths and she could almost swear she heard a groan of pain. Her worry strikes higher and she is trying to prepare herself for what might happen. Not every war has a happy ending. And she hopes this war is not one of them.
Ezra is strugglig to keep his hold on Thrawn, the Purgills and the air inside the chimaera. The wound in his shoulder throbbing painfully, and he was fully sure he was gonna deal with overusing the force later. His muscles are screaming at him, his head is splitting with pain, and the force is the only peaceful thing in the middle of all the chaos. His body couldn't hold it any longer, so he let go. The purgills detached from the ship and jumped to hyperspace, leaving him.
Ezra felt the rush of air in the crashing destroyer, preparing for a very exciting landing like Hera would say. He smiled to himself, knowing he fulfilled his destiny and the will of the force. He honestly didn't have much hope of surviving this ordeal. But he felt also relieved that his friends and family are safe, they could move on without him. He closed his eyes waiting for his end. And as the Chimaera crashed and screeched hard against the fields at Lothal while the already ongoing flames rising higher. Ezra Bridger was at peace.
The crew of the ghost stood frozen, watching this fireball of a ship crashing to the ground, turning any grass around it to ashes, the animals running hurriedly away from the heat.
They stood like statues for a few minutes, until Sabine woke up from her shock and whispered "This is our chance", she turned around to face the rebels and said loudly "We need to split into 2 teams, one will go save Ezra and capture any imperial survivors left. The other one will blow this dome and retreat to the Ghost" she held up her wrist and contacted The Ghost "Mart, I need you to contact the Rebel base, ask them for a medical team stat and a ship to transport the prisoners" she said hurriedly.
Mart Mattin answered in the same hurry as hers "Copy That, Lieutenant" and turned off the comm.
Hera smiled at Sabine and stood before the crew and ordered "Sabine, Ryder, Ketsu, and Rex, you go to the Chimaera, take the phantom II, the rest with me" she shouted.
Everyone nodded and went in different directions to fulfill their duties. As the first team reached the glass windows of the dome, Chopped beeped loudly and threw an item at Sabine's direction. She caught it with ease and looked at it. Ezra's lightsaber. Sabine looked at Chopper, "Thanks!" she said.
She activated the green blade and cut the glass into two, kicking it with her legs, it gave away and shattered into a million pieces, the team of four hurriedly ascended the Ghost to reach the small shuttle attached to it. Rex hopped into the pilot seat and quickly took off.
Upon reaching their destination, the flames were even higher than they were. Sabine Wren wasn't one to be afraid of anything, but since Kanan died, her worst fears became flames. Her heart rated spiked and she hoped she wouldn't find a pile of ash instead of her friend.
They landed the phantom II, and the four ran out of the ramp. Now near the burning Chimaera, they searched for an entry way. Not finding any.
Sabine whisper growled and reached for the cylindrical weapon attached to her belt, activating it once again and attempted to cut a door shaped opening for them to enter. She finished and deactivated the saber. Looking at the opening she made, it was more of a jagged undefined mess than a door, but it would do the job.
The four entered slowly in caution, fearing the ceiling would collapse on them. Ryder and Rex started to cough loudly from the smoke, their helmets not on them while Ketsu and Sabine have. Sabine felt like she was pulling her breath from a narrow straw, her helmet quickly filtering out the smoke and any gases around her. She almost felt constricted.
The four decided to split up, and the one to find the main room would contact the others.
Each member of the team felt like they were in a maze. Charred hallways and dead bodies of storm troopers thrown left and right.
Rex almost felt empathy for those troopers, they weren't like he was once, a clone with no family, just his clone brothers. But these troopers mostly had families to feed and to care for, they didn't deserve to die like this, in the middle of a fight. But at the same time they killed thousands of rebels, the Imperial pilots shot down hundreds of ships, and the imperial workers shot Greggor today.
Rex stopped and looked down. Tears coming to his eyes, but he stopped them from falling. He took a deep breath and remembered the mission at hand, he will grieve later.
Rex was the first one to reach the main part of the ship. Upon entering, he gasped. Then coughed, The room was like an abandoned war zone. He looked at his left and right, noticing dead death troopers slumped down the walls.
Looking at his front, he stared with wide eyes. Thrawn was collapsed on the control panel, his what once was a white imperial uniform, was now ripped and black from soot. His face was bloody and his right wrist was badly burned. Rex was almost sure the admiral had more injuries, but he'll have to check them later.
His heart jumped at the thought of Ezra. If this was the state of the grand admiral, what would the kid look like? His form stiffened from the thought.
He searched around the room and spotted an orange sleeved hand under what looked to be a part of the ceiling. Rex let out a loud gasp and ran to the kid, groaning from the weight of the boulder, but he managed to lift it off.
He kneeled down beside Ezra and took a first look at his injuries. He had a blast shot that ran through his left shoulder, he had a large gash on his head, definitely some ribs were broken by how his breath almost sounded like wheezing, his right side was bleeding from the boulder, Rex could tell, and his leg appeared to be broken. Rex let out a strangled gasp.
Rex quickly turned on his commlink and shouted "I found him, hurry!"
He ran a gentle hand through the kid's incredibly soft cropped raven hair that was matted with blood from the gash on his head and whispered "Stay with me, kid, please"

about:
growing up kieran was no stranger to money. hearing the term ‘born with a silver spoon in their mouth’ referred to him better than anyone else he knew. it was all thanks to the empire his grandfather started to stay in the UK. the man had ended up falling for an english woman when he was studying abroad at columbia, he fell in love and needed something impressive to not have to the leave the woman he loved.
the hotel business was a very fortunate one. after his grandfather sent his son (kieran’s father) to america to follow his footsteps at the same university he was able to come back, sign on to be a partner and launch their empire worldwide.
even with being spoiled all his life, it was clear to him that his mother preferred his brother. ezra was the golden child, the first born son blah blah, he could do no wrong in his mother’s eyes. where as kieran found trouble so easily, needing money more often to get himself out of things rather than being rewarded.
most of the time his father was busy working and his mother would give him however much money he requested so he'd go away and not have to dealt with. though he was still required to show up to whatever hotel events, galas, or charity auctions that required strong family representation. they couldn’t been seen as less than perfect when they were all together.
though during those events he’d always find someone to sneak off with, whether it was to do drugs in the bathroom or a hot hookup. the boy liked to be entertained and often found himself easily bored, plus if it pissed off his parents it was a no brainer.
going behind the scenes further, you’d know that not only did his mother prefer his older brother, she didn’t really like his father very much either. they were only married because she got pregnant, a dumb fling sparked from hate, and he felt obligated to stand by her, plus it didn’t hurt that she wouldn’t be able to testify against him in court. they played the happy family for a while, she enjoyed using the money to her advantage.
it wasn’t long before kieran’s dad found himself a mistress, they ended up meeting in fact at a party at the dean’s house while ezra was in columbia. kieran was the one who spotted them, and the fact that she was already pregnant at the party. but perfect families had to go on. his father made sure kieran’s supply of money was constant, anything to keep the boy quiet.
his mother was in a car accident, she didn’t survive. kieran’s dad used the excuse of wanting to find out who was behind it to keep him family in new york. enough time passed and the case had turned cold, which soon led kieran to have a step mother and a half sister.
of course now that his father had the wife he always wanted, the boy was even more invisible which only made him more careless, reckless. his father would make sure that their reputation was in tact.
he finished off his junior year of hs in new york, along with his senior year before being accepted into columbia himself. sure his family has been making donations to the school for generations, but the boy is smart. the money did help clear up anything he was bound to get himself into eventually though.
facts relevant now:
he’s messed up any real relationship he’s ever had whether it was with cheating or something else. he hasn’t met anyone that’s wanted him to stay committed.
he uses sports to channel his anger, when he can’t use sex and basically uses sex for anything else.
kieran acts first and asks questions later, probably why he ends up in so much shit but he can’t help himself.
his family frequently vacationed at big bear resort, the owner being in business with his family.
he’ll try really hard to convince you he’s heartless, he’s not actually but it’s buried deep beneath his surface.
when he wasn’t causing trouble ( & still being ignored ) he picked up cooking, the channels being on an endless loop late at night and he found he was actually pretty good at it. not that he’d let anyone from home find that out.
he got really drunk one night and decided racing the porsche was a good idea and ended up crashing it into the living room. now while his family pays for repairs, kieran was forced to work at the lodge while the rest of the family vacations in paris. his father made it so the boy would finally have to own up to something, so it was either prison or work for his dad’s dear old partner. the choice was simple.
he figured something he’d actually be good at that also allowed him to hide in the back of the bistro was perfect, thus landing himself the job as the chef.
connections:
bromance/roommate : leo takanashi. two dumbasses together under one roof, what could possibly go wrong? double trouble, always fueling each other to do stupid things. most of the time the stupid things are done together.
best female friend : aylie monroe. possibly an ex that didn’t go sour. sees the best in him even though he’ll never see it himself. willing to smack him in the head if he needs it.
best bro : ryder monroe. he’s been around forever and always down to do stupid shit with kieran. the two of them are a dangerous stupid mix but it’s never dull and the laughs never stop.
good friends : jason callahan. open. i know it’s surprising that an asshole like kieran has these, but by some odd reason he does.
mom friend : open. the girl who’s constantly giving him shit, lecturing him, trying to get him to see the error in his ways.
confidant : open. they get high together or get drunk and spill their guts. they both have info on each other so they know how crucial it is to keep each other’s secrets.
his soft spot : cleo ortiz. every asshole has a weakness -- she’s the one who can get to him like no one else can. a close friend. looks out for him while calling him out on his shit, though he just laughs it off, possibly romantic as well?
sexual tension : open. the tension between the two of them is so undeniable though neither of them have given in...yet.
fwb/frequent hookups/flirtationships : ingrid kelly. callie macdermot. open. open. pretty self explanatory seeing as kieran and relationships don’t mix well. he’s more than likely to send them all the said booty call text and see which one answers the fastest.
one night stand : open. one night of passion, giving in to temptation. possible things are awkward now or they can’t get enough now.
pregnancy scare : open. with all the messing around he does, it was bound to happen.
ex girlfriend : callie macdermot. the one and only. it only lasted a month and the two mutually ended it, just the label part anyway. they both couldn’t see themselves in a relationship but they still like being around each other.
ex hookups/flings : open. open. relationships that fizzled out, run there course, or more than likely kieran ruined by saying/doing something stupid.
childhood friends : aylie monroe. ryder monroe. they grew up together. the people who would more than likely know about his real mother and what she was like when she was alive.
playful frenemies : open. constant back and forth, flirting he can’t help. she denies him and only makes him want to play with her more. built up tension to where only a kiss can shut him up, though she’s going to act like nothing ever happened.
friendships turned enemies : roman walsh . he had a girlfriend who was kind of a bitch, very persistent and even though kieran turned the girl down she wouldn’t stop, cornering him when he was drunk and his will wasn’t as strong. long story short, kieran helped the girl cheat on his friend and they haven’t been cool since.
unlikely friends/ current rivals : marco di angelo. these two are always butting heads, who even knows where it stems from, but they have more in common than they realize.
mutual bad influences : ivan anderson. open. pretty self explanatory. they cause double the trouble when they’re together and have a great time doing it and fueling each other’s horrible ideas.
good influence : open. the person who keeps his head on straight. the good influence friend every mess needs to find balance.
anything else tbh, i’m open to anything and everything.

Rebels Rewatch: "Legacy"
We learn the answer to the question of Ezra's parents' fate and things are endlessly sad.
This series of slow scale-pan/zoom in shots that start from a wide distance establishing shot and ends on a close-up of Ezra is really effective. Evokes a dreamlike quality even before we duck into Ezra's head. The silence and weird sounds add to the eerie effect.
This whole sequence is obviously retroactively sad. It almost feels like the Force is trying to connect Ezra with his parents one last time. The muted whispers recall the World Between Worlds, Mira and Ephraim's repeated reassurances to Ezra that they're right there, perhaps already dead, with him in the Force? The Force sound effects are bizarre and watery, and there are a couple unusually loud bass thomps that Ezra startles at--Footsteps? Heartbeats? Bodies hitting the floor?
It's a trippy sequence but played entirely seriously, even the lack of fanfare emphasizing how important this episode is.
There's our first instance of the "Twin Moons" cue here.
:(((((((
Kanan's line here about, "You've never wanted to talk about your parents." suggests that he and Hera did try to let Ezra know that Tseebo had told them something but that he didn't want to hear it at the time. Or that maybe they were waiting for him to bring it up and he never did.
This is a pretty shot. <3
See, this is why I don't agree with the argument that Hera and Kanan were wrong for not telling Ezra what little they knew. Because... what would it have even accomplished?
"Oh, we maybe know vaguely where your parents are." But they don't have any way to confirm where they are or if they're even still alive and even though they've been looking for probably a year now they've exhausted all resources and are not any closer to an answer. There is net zero information to be gained on Ezra's part, and if he'd known they were looking all it would have done was distract him and drive him to obsessively check in about it.
Which is not something a vulnerable Force Sensitive with attachment issues needs to have added to his plate to worry about.
Meanwhile with the Rebellion plot side of things, Konstantine is debriefing Fifth and Seventh.
Seventh looks meanly happy that Konstantine snarks at Fifth lol.
Side note: There is really pretty lighting in this scene.
Aw frick.
*weeps*
The mass escape happened the previous night. It happened the night Ezra had his vision.
His parents were already dead and he felt it unconsciously through the Force.
In hindsight that might be why he was able to accept it/guess at it so quickly when they were talking to Ryder.
Right so a lot of my commentary this episode is just going to be me being sad about Ezra's face.
"You have to open your mind to the truth as the Force presents it." Oof. Holocron-shadowing.
This sequence is so cool. A lovely music cue to accompany it too.
Ugh, the parallels to "Vision of Hope" and "Twin Suns", with Ezra leaping headfirst onto the scent of potential information, rushing in, so assured of what his vision means...
Sabine coming out to see what's up with Ezra, and apparently casually listening in on Imperial chatter concerning Lothal.
Also Ezra, you really don't need that helmet, you just want it 'cause it's a present from Sabine you basically use a security blanket lol.
Ezra's theme sounding very bright and lovely here.
Lol Sabine calling Zeb and Chopper delinquents.
Kanan and Sabine's worried looks at him. <33333
Ezra's agitation here is rightfully a little concerning. He's snapping at his friends, being impatient, short-tempered.
I like this cute little moment here though, Sabine gives him a reassuring nod.
Riiiiiiight before she realizes what the Stormtroopers clearing out of the area means lol.
This protocol being established in Rebels lent some extra dread to that moment in Rogue One when the Star Destroyer moved out from above Jedha's capital.
Ezra isn't focusing, his aim is all off. His theme pipes in here, strained and full of tense strings.
Lol Kanan's expression like, "Shit, did he do all that? That's my kid all right. "<333333
Oooooh the way Ezra's expression changes as soon as he hears Seventh.
He angy.
Yeah uh hon, I don't think charging two Inquisitors twice your size is gonna work. Good thing Kanan interrupts and blasts the door between them so he can give Ezra a moment to collect himself and calm back down.
"You're right. I never knew my parents." :(((( This is sad for two reasons, one, that Kanan is tacitly admitting he can't fully understand Ezra in this one aspect, and two, that he still does understand somewhat because he lost his master right in front of him (who was basically the closest thing he had to a parent) and his entire Order and people.
I think Ezra realizes that because he looks immediately contrite and apologizes.
:((((((
The music in this scene is great.
Aaaaaaaand the TIE fighters shot a Rebel transport down over a populated civilian city.
Friendly reminder that the Rebels did not do this in the finale.
Awww Chopper waving bye to mom.
Love Hera just straight up bashing the tractor beam generator with the Ghost when the torpedo plan fails.
Sabine checking to see if they're going to follow Kanan and Ezra. <3333
This whole conversation. <3333
Welp, the dumbass new post editor is making me brush up against an unexpected 30 photo limit, dunno how to turn it off, it's not on a lot of the previous recaps, might have to tweak this post a few times. In the meantime looks like I'm going to be limited in the caps I can post.
Stupid Tumblr.
Ezra's burned out old home. :(((((
Oh hey, random thought, but would you like me to make this episode even sadder? >:)
So the timeline is a bit loose with Rebels and frankly what they've officially set down makes zero sense. But we know the show starts 5BBY and that Ezra turns 15 in the mid-season episode "Empire Day".
Some fans decided that because "Legacy" is another mid-season episode that means its a year after "Empire Day".
AKA Ezra turned 16 yesterday, the same day his parents died.
After all, what's a better distraction for a massive jailbreak than a mandated galactic holiday, when the Stormtroopers are busy partying? Or so the logic goes.
~You're welcome.~
KITTY! :D
"Aaaand we're chasing Loth-cats now." Kanan sounds so tired lol.
Friiiiiiiick Ezra's hopeful little face when Ryder says he knows his parents. :((((((
Clancy Brown trying to break out of his typecast voicing someone who's NOT a villain for a change.
Bbbbbyyyyyyyyy. :(((((((((
"Twin Moons" coming in again, all in sad somber strings.
Not remembering exactly which of the writers/producers said it, but pretty sure behind-the-scenes Word of God confirmed that Ephraim and Mira realized it was only a matter of time before the Empire would connect the dots from Ezra to them because of his message, and that's why they A) led the jailbreak in the first place, and B) let themselves be killed in the escape when they got separated, rather than be used as blackmail against their son.
You know, in case the episode wasn't already sad enough. :)
Man, Ezra's face, I can't.
*sobs*
Right, I know I can't add many more caps but this hug needed to be capped. Look, even Chopper is patting Ezra's knee kjhkjafhkas.
"Twin Moons" playing out in somber female vocals now and I'm SO mad that Tumblr decided to finally randomly change/update my post editor I NEED TO CAP EVERY SINGLE FRAME.
From Ezra's sad curled up position, the despondency in his eyes, the breeze moving through the Lothal grass in gentle rivulets, how the light shifts as Ezra enters his vision, the glorious shimmer of Capital City in a world without the Empire, that shot of Ephraim's hand joining Ezra's on the railing...
This is such a beautiful sequence.
So so mad about the photo limit.
Kanan comforting Ezra by talking about how the Jedi view death, as merely energy changing forms, and that Ezra's parents are alive inside him.
I don't think it's a coincidence that "They will be. Always." recalls "The Force will be with you, always."
Man. :((((((
So this is a beautiful episode, very plot heavy, ends the mini Garel portion of the season and drives the Rebels even further afield from Lothal, which I suppose makes it appropriate that we're allowed to visit it one last time this season.
The confirmation of the deaths of his parents would serve to unbalance Ezra again, after the serenity he'd found at the end of "Brothers of the Broken Horn", and the grief will be lingering through the whole rest of the season, arguably the rest of the show.
Ezra takes it... so remarkably well though, which speaks to his character maturity. The support of the others, especially Kanan--who understands full well what it's like to lose someone and be alone in your grief--helps too. Kanan's relationship with Ezra, always a highlight of the show, shines through here in how understanding and present he is for Ezra.
The animation and music are phenomenal this episode, perfectly serving the story and of course looking gorgeous to boot.
Plus there are lots of pretty shots of Ezra looking sad so...
Yeah I love this episode.
#star wars#star wars rebels#ezra bridger#space dad and his precious pumpkin child#rebels rewatch#liveblog#stupid tumblr had a new version of post editor hit my account so now i'm limited to 30 photos

The Heart’s Best Medicine
The 4 times Kanan or Hera sing to sooth Sabine or Ezra (They each do both kids) plus the 1 time they both sang to both of them.
Song credits can be found at the end of each story.
1. Kanan and Sabine:
Set sometime before Ezra joins the Ghost crew.
Kanan wasn’t entirely sure what woke him up, but once he was awake, he realized he needed to pee. After making a trip to the refresher, Kanan was about to head back to bed, but he sensed something coming from the common room and decided to check it out.
When he got there, he found Sabine sitting at the dejarik table. She had her knees pulled up to her chest and was sobbing into her arms.
“Sabine?” Kanan asked, stepping into the room.
Sabine briefly looked up at him, revealing her tear-streaked face, then she went back to her arms.
“What are you doing up?” Kanan asked. “Couldn’t sleep?”
Sabine didn’t answer. She just turned her body away from him.
“Did you have a nightmare?” Kanan tried, moving so he was facing her.
Sabine must have figured out that Kanan wasn’t going to leave her alone until he was sure she was okay, because she nodded.
Kanan sighed. “I’ll be right back,”
Kanan went to the galley and left Sabine wondering what he was doing.
Kanan returned a few minutes later with a mug. “Here,” he said as he slid the mug over to her.
Sabine released her legs and sat up. She took the mug. “What is it?” she asked.
“It’s hot chocolate,” Kanan answered “I’ve found that it helps with soothing nightmares,”
Sabine gave him a sceptical glance, then tentatively took a sip. She closed her eyes and visibly relaxed, like Kanan thought she would.
Seeing that she had relaxed and was more open, Kanan slid into the seat beside her.
Sabine drank the hot chocolate as Kanan contemplated what to do. Sabine had opened up to them over the past few months, but Kanan wasn’t sure if she was ready to talk about her nightmares yet.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Kanan asked after a few minutes.
Sabine was silent for a minute. Then she cried. “Why did everything have to fall apart after I joined the Empire?”
Kanan opened his arm and Sabine rested her head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arm around her and just let her cry.
After all her tears were spent, Sabine didn’t move from her position against Kanan’s side.
Kanan rubbed soothing circles onto her shoulder. Then a song came to him from the deepest recesses of him memory and he started humming.
It wasn’t long before he started to sing:
“You had your maps drawn,
You had other plans
To hang your hopes on,
Every road they lead you down felt so wrong,
So you found another way,
You've got a big heart,
The way you see the world
It got you this far,
You might have some bruises,
And a few scars,
But you know you're gonna be okay,
And even though you're scared,
You're stronger than you know,
If you're lost out where the lights are blinding,
Caught in all, the stars are hiding,
That's when something wild calls you home, home,
If you face the fear that keeps you frozen,
Chase the sky into the ocean,
That's when something wild calls you home, home,
Wo-o-OHHH
OH-OHHH
OH-OHHH-OH-oh
ohhh
ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-oh
ohhh
Ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-OH,
OH
Wo-o-OHHH
OH-OHHH
OH-OHHH-OH-oh
ohhh
ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-oh
ohhh
Ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-OH,
OH
Sometimes the past can,
Make the ground beneath you feel like quicksand,
You don't have to worry,
You reach for my hand,
Yeah I know you're gonna be okay,
You're gonna be okay,
And even if you're scared,
You're stronger than you know,
If you're lost out where the lights are blinding,
Caught in all, the stars are hiding,
That's when something wild calls you home, home,
If you face the fear that keeps you frozen,
Chase the sky into the ocean,
That's when something wild calls you home, home,
Wo-o-OHHH
OH-OHHH
OH-OHHH-OH-oh
ohhh
ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-oh

Ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-OH,
OH
Wo-o-OHHH
OH-OHHH
OH-OHHH-OH-oh
ohhh
ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-oh
ohhh
Ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-OH,
OH
Calls you home,
Calls you home,
Calls you home,
Calls you home,
If you're lost out where the lights are blinding,
Caught in all, the stars are hiding,
That's when something wild calls you home,
If you're lost out where the lights are blinding,
Caught in all, the stars are hiding,
That's when something wild calls you home, home,
If you face the fear that keeps you frozen,
Chase the sky into the ocean,
That's when something wild calls you home, home,
Wo-o-OHHH

OH-OHHH-OH-oh
ohhh
ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-oh
ohhh
Ohhh-oh
oh-OH-Oh-oh-OH,
OH,”
“Thanks Kanan,” Sabine mumbled.
They stayed there for a bit longer. Eventually, Sabine fell asleep against Kanan’s shoulder.
Kanan smiled and kissed the top of her head. Then he picked her up and carried her back to her room.
“Good night, Sabine,” Kanan said as he tucked her in. “We’re always here for you,”

2. Kanan and Ezra:
Set immediately after “Legacy”
After Kanan’s reassured him that his parents were still with him through the Force, Ezra was still upset, which was understandable.
“I still miss them,” Ezra admitted.
“ I know,” Kanan soothed. “And that’s okay,”
“Just...why?” Ezra turned and leaned into Kanan’s chest.
Kanan wrapped his arms around him and just let Ezra cry, for the second time that night. He rubbed his back and rested his cheek on top of his head.
Kanan suddenly remembered a song he’d heard on the Holonet once that seemed to fit the occasion. He started to hum the tune, then moved on to singing the words:
“I can see every tear you've cried,
Like an ocean in your eyes,
All the pain and the scars have left you cold,
I can see all the fears you face,
Through a storm that never goes away,
Don't believe all the lies that you've been told,
I'll be right here now,
To hold you when the sky falls down,
I will always,
Be the one who took your place,
When the rain falls,
I won't let go,
I'll be right here,
I will show you the way back home,
Never leave you all alone,
I will stay until the morning comes,
I'll show you how to live again,
And heal the brokenness within,
Let me love you when you come undone,
I'll be right here now,
To hold you when the sky falls down,
I will always,
Be the one who took your place,
When the rain falls,
I won't let go,
I'll be right here,
When daybreak seems so far away,
Reach for my hand,
When hope and peace begin to fray,
Still I will stand,
Right here now,
To hold you when the sky falls down,
I will always,
Be the one who took your place,
When the rain falls,
I won't let go,
When the rain falls,
I won't let go,
I'll be right here,”
“Thank you, Kanan,” Ezra said, muffled by Kanan’s shirt. “For everything,”
Kanan smiled gently. “You’re welcome,”
Kanan kissed the top of Ezra’s head.
They stayed like that for a while. Then Ezra’s stomach growled.
Kanan chuckled. “Come on,” he said, turning to lead them back to Ryder’s camp. “Let’s get something to eat,”
“Okay,” Ezra said, not leaving Kanan’s side.

3. Hera and Ezra:
Set after “Call to Action”
Hera was exhausted.
After Kanan had been captured during their mission to hijack the Empire’s communications tower and they send out their message, the rest of the Ghost crew was on high alert. The Empire would no doubt increase patrols after the stunt they pulled, even once night fell.
Hera had volunteered for the first night watch, and Zeb had just come to relieve her.
Hera knew she wasn’t ready to sleep yet after everything that had happened, so she went to the galley to get herself a warm drink before she went to bed.
As she was making her way back to her room, Hera heard a scream coming from Zeb and Ezra’s room. She paused, then turned to go to Zeb and Ezra’s room instead of her own.
Hera opened the door and found Ezra curled up in his bunk and crying.
“Ezra?” Hera asked, coming into the room.
Ezra didn’t answer, so Hera climbed the ladder up to his bunk.
“Ezra?” Hera asked again, reaching out to touch his shoulder.
Ezra looked up at her. His eyes were red and puffy from crying and his nose was running.
After a moment, he threw himself at her and buried his face in her chest and cried some more.
“I miss Kanan,” Ezra mumbled, his voice muffled by Hera’s pilot suit, as Hera leaned back against the back wall of Ezra’s bunk.
“Me too,” Hera consoled, rubbing his back.
Ezra sobbed into her chest for a while.
Then Hera remembered the lullaby her mother used to sing when she was little, during the Clone Wars, when explosions kept her up at night.
She started to hum the tune, and then she started to sing:
“I remember tears streaming down your face,
When I said I'll never let you go,
When all those shadows almost killed your light,
I remember you said,
Don't leave me here alone,
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight,
Just close your eyes,
The sun is going down,
You'll be alright,
No one can hurt you now,
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound,
Don't you dare look out your window,
Darling, everything's on fire,
The war outside our door keeps raging on,
Hold on to this lullaby,
Even when the music's gone,
Gone,
Just close your eyes,
The sun is going down,
You'll be alright,
No one can hurt you now,
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound,
Oooooo, Oooooo,
Oooooo, Oooooo,
Lala... Lala...
Lala... Lala...
Ooooo, OooOooo,
Ooooo, OooOooo,
Lala... Lala...
Just close your eyes,
You'll be alright,
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound,
Oooooo, OoooOooo,
Oooooo, OoooOooo,
Oooooo, OoooOooo,
Oooooo, OoooOooo,
Oooooo, OoooOooo,
Oooooo, OoooOooo,”
Ezra was asleep by the time the song ended. He’d conked out after the last chorus.
Hera smiled and kissed the top of his head. Then she laid him back down and tucked him in.
“Good night, Ezra,” she said. “We’ll get Kanan back. I promise,”
Song Used: “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift
4. Hera and Sabine:
Set after “The Protector of Concord Dawn”
Kanan left to go check on Ezra and Zeb, leaving Hera and Sabine alone in Hera’s medical room.
“I also heard that you stowed-away on the Phantom with Kanan without permission and challenged Fenn Rau to a duel,” Hera said after a minute.
“Yeah,” Sabine said, looking down at Hera’s sheets.
“Well?” Hera asked, waiting.
“I was angry at Fenn Rau for what he did to you,” Sabine admitted.
Hera’s soft snort conveyed that this wasn’t a surprise to her.
“I guess the Mandalorian in me still wanted revenge,” she continued. “And I think I partially blamed myself for what happened and I wanted to make it right,”
“The Mandalorian way?” Hera asked.
“Yeah,” Sabine agreed. “But you and Kanan taught me a better way, and I chose that instead,”
Hera smiled. “I’m glad you did,”
Sabine sighed and scooted forward to rest her head on Hera’s torso.
“You really scared us,” she said after a moment.
“I didn’t mean to,” Hera replied, stroking Sabine’s hair.
“I know,” Sabine murmured.
Hera sensed that Sabine still felt upset, but didn’t want to admit or show it.
Hera suddenly remembered a song she’d heard in a cantina once that she thought might make Sabine feel better. She started humming the intro, and then, even though her voice was still weak, she started to sing; her voice getting stronger as she went on:
“Straight for your heart,
Straight for your heart,
I see you,
I see you so clear,
I know you wanna disappear,
You wonder who will notice,
If you gave up the fight,
Some days you feel invisible, out of sight,
Right here, right now, tonight,
I’m coming straight for your heart,
I’m bringing light to the dark,
It’s gonna catch like a flame,
Everything’s about to change,
All it takes is a spark,
To bring hope where you are,
Cuz you’re never too far,
No you’re never too far,
Coming straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Your heart beats,
But it’s just keeping time,
You’re living but you don’t feel alive,
The world outside is turning,
While yours in lying still,
In the cycle, spinning spiral, holding you until,
Right here, right now, tonight,
I’m coming straight for your heart,
I’m bringing light to the dark,
It’s gonna catch like a flame,
Everything is about to change,
All it takes is a spark,
To bring hope where you are,
Cuz you’re never too far,
No you’re never too far,
I’m coming straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
You don’t have to walk this road alone,
I’ll hold you, hold you,
You don’t have to live this life alone,
I know you, know you,
Even in the dark night,
I’ll be there,
Even when you can’t fight,
I’ll be there,
I’ll be there,
I’ll be there,
I’m coming straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
I’m coming straight for your heart,
I’m bringing light to the dark,
It’s gonna catch like a flame,
Everything is about to change,
All it takes is a spark,
To bring hope where you are,
Cuz you’re never too far,
No you’re never too far,
I’m coming straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Coming straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Coming straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Coming straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
Straight, straight, straight for your heart,
You don’t have to walk this road alone,
I’ll hold you, hold you,
You don’t have to live this life alone,
I know you,”
Sabine smiled when Hera finished the song, but didn’t say anything.
Hera leaned forward and kissed the top of Sabine’s head. Then she returned to her pillow and closed her eyes, because she was still exhausted after everything.

+1. Whole Space Family:
Set sometime after “Always Two There Are”
It was supposed to be a routine op. Ezra, Sabine, and Zeb were supposed to go down to the planet’s surface in the Phantom to pick up the supplies while Hera and Chopper acted as air support and Kanan manned the turret.
Unfortunately, they had company.
There were ties everywhere, and according to their comms, the two inquisitors from the abandoned medical station were waiting at the drop point.
Zeb, Sabine, and Ezra were fighting them the best they could, but with the Ghost in no position to help them, there was no telling how long they would last.
Then Zeb said that the Inquisitors had captured Sabine and Ezra.
It suddenly became Kanan and Hera’s mission to get down there and give the Inquisitors hell.
While Zeb fought off the Inquisitors and tried to get them away from Ezra and Sabine, Hera, Kanan, and Chopper worked on getting rid of the ties so they could help Zeb get Sabine and Ezra back.
It took awhile for them to take care of all the ties. Fortunately, Zeb had managed to keep the Inquisitors from leaving with Ezra and Sabine.
Hera flew the Ghost down so Kanan could jump out, then had Chopper scan for the Inquisitors’ ties so they could destroy them (as long as Ezra and Sabine weren't inside).
Kanan distracted the Inquisitors so Zeb could get Ezra and Sabine back on the Phantom and to the Ghost.
Not long after, Hera brought the Ghost around and picked up Kanan. Then they got out of there.
Zeb had brought Sabine and Ezra to the common room after the Phantom had docked with the Ghost. He let Hera and Kanan know over the comm that Ezra and Sabine weren’t looking too good.
Kanan and Hera met at the door to the common room. They glanced at each other, then entered the room together.
Ezra and Sabine were huddled together in the middle of the room when they entered. Sabine had an arm around Ezra’s shoulders and he had one around her waist. Ezra rested his head on Sabine’s shoulder and she rested hers on top of his.
Zeb was standing off to the side, looking like he wasn’t sure what to do.
When they noticed Kanan and Hera, Sabine and Ezra looked up. They’d been crying, and their faces looked traumatized.
Hera and Kanan only took a second before they went and wrapped their arms around the both of them.
Then Kanan and Hera moved to sit in Zeb's big chair and pulled Sabine and Ezra down with them so the kids were practically sitting in their laps.
They hugged them tight and just let the kids cry for a while. Zeb left the room while Sabine and Ezra were crying.
“Inquisitors suck,” Ezra said after a while, in between sobs.
“No doubt about that,” Kanan agreed quietly.
Hera and Kanan started humming to try and sooth the kids.
Coincidentally, they were humming the same song, and they noticed that. Kanan continued to hum, but Hera started singing the lyrics:
“I can't pretend,
To know how you feel,
But know that I'm here,
Know that I'm real,”
Then Kanan took the next two lines:
“Say what you want,
Or don't talk at all,”
Then Hera took over again:
“Not gonna let you fall,
Reach for my hand,
'Cause it's held out for you,
My shoulders are small,
But you can cry on them too,
Everything changes,
But one thing is true,
Understand,
We'll always be more than a crew,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,”
Kanan sang the next lyrics:
“You used to brave the world,
All on your own,
Now we won't let you go,
Go it alone,”
Then Hera sang again:
“Be who you wanna be,
Always stand tall,”
They sung the chorus together:
“Not gonna let you fall,
Reach for my hand,
'Cause it's held out for you,
My shoulders are strong,
But you can cry on them too,
Everything changes,
But one thing is true,
Understand,
We'll always be more than a crew,”
Kanan took the next lines by himself:
“I never knew you could take me so far,
I've always wanted the home that you are,
The ones I need,”
They sang together again:
“Reach for my hand,
'Cause it's held out for you,
My shoulders are strong,
But you can cry on them too,
Everything changes,
But one thing is true,
Understand,
We'll always be more than a crew,”
Then Kanan finished out the last chorus:
“Reach for my hand,
'Cause it's held out for you,
My shoulders are strong,
But you can cry on them too,
Everything changes,
But one thing is true,
Understand,
We'll always be more than a crew,”
Hera and Kanan both kissed the tops of Sabine and Ezra’s heads.
Ezra, Hera, Kanan, and Sabine stayed cuddled together for the rest of the day, and when Zeb went to check on them later, he found them all still in the chair and fast asleep. He chuckled, threw a blanket over them, dimmed the lights, and went to bed.
Chopper took a holo-picture for posterity, then went to his charging station.
