some artist draws render or lineless artstyle because it's a simple, fun and cool style, or wanted to try out different techniques
i draw lineless artstyle because i despise the concept of hell and pain spawned from the underworld, which is a lineart. we are not the same
#shh lycan#rants#/hj#artist problems#my irl artist friend was asking me on why i take lineless style well this is my answer#i do render sometimes but it's quite tedious for me#i still enjoy render a lot tho i do that style when i'm in a mood#but lineless artstyle is my gateway to escape the agony of lineart#and it's a very relaxing artstyle#if you haven't tried lineless you should!! it's very good#i draw linearts before and it was one of the reasons for art burnouts#hella sucks sometimes to spend hours only on one thing and you haven't even colored yet#so you earn my respect if you have lineart to your work o7

What do you use for colouring on your sketches? Its very solid yet has a nice texture to it… is that from the brush you use or do you add a paper texture or something? (love your artstyle btw!!!!)
The brush I use is the same brush as I use for lineart…! It’s a brush I modified after the pen tool in notability (as u can see in the pic) , and since I usually don’t work on a sketch for too long (limitations) so most of the colored pieces are just some quick building on the base.
I don’t know if this answers your question? :D Thank you for your compliment as well! :))

Here's a wip compilation of my latest piece!
You ever take a photo of a sketch because you're about to commit to lineart and wanna make sure you have a record of it in case it gets ruined? 😂
Even my tiniest eraser was bigger than Leo's face, which meant if I made a mistake, I was starting over. If you haven't yet noticed, I like to draw small, which has natural consequences 😂
Those who follow my Instagram actually saw wips for this drawing ages ago— I mostly post to my story there, and it's more daily shenanigans than just art if you like following that kind of social media!
When i'm intimidated by a piece, I like to pick a stage and completely finish it so I can get an idea of what the final product will look like, and complete it in more manageable chunks.
Mikey be like 🦅🦅
Another example of me doing all of a chunk first so I can see if the process is worth trusting— the answer was a resounding yes! I also like seeing the colored lineart before shading.
Told ya the paper was brown! I have a white pen that smudged when I first colored over it— but when I realized I could use that to my advantage, I really enjoyed using it to blend colors in the background, since my markers are india ink and are usually resistant to that unless very wet! Speaking of markers, these things are old enough to go to middle school, every time I use them it's a gamble to see how long they'll last XD

I am deeply touched that so many people enjoyed my little animation of Technoblade. I genuinely didn’t think that my post would get spread much, if at all, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for reblogging it and giving me such kind words.
While Procreate does include a playback feature, unfortunately the playback for how I animated this is 45 minutes long and well beyond the capacities of tumblr’s compression and limits. And since I don’t yet have a YouTube channel to host such a lengthy video, the best I can to is provide this quick and dirty breakdown of my process.
I animate the roughs in procreate and you can see that I am VERY loose with my initial pass. I often forget if I’m drawing him with 4 or 5 fingers, I changed his outfit halfway through the animation from a draping cape to a coat, and proportions fly all around. The most important aspect of this initial pass is just to get the timing and movement right.
I then do a second cleanup pass. It is not shown here, but this is what the lineart will eventually be based on. This pass is to refine the art and solidify it. Fix anatomy issues, those finger and clothing issues, and just generally work on sticking closer to the model I had chosen for my reference.
Then I do the lineart pass. I did this in Procreate Dreams by importing the animation as a video, lowering the opacity to 50%, and using it as a guide for the lineart. Here I refine the animation further and clean up any lingering problems.
Finally once the inking is done I color the animation. In Dreams I realized that groups are a godsend for this process. Every color was its own separate layer. But once I finished a layer I could group it together and Dreams treats it like it’s own singular track on the timeline. Then once I finished another color I would group those together with the group I already finished. And then again and again and so on until eventually I only had one layer for all the lineart and color. But if I ever needed to fix anything I could expand those groups and go directly to the frame in question. It’s a really handy feature!
Because he looks out the window at one point I wanted to have the light cast shadows on him. So I colored all the frames before and after the window in a darkened pallet, and the frames where he is at the window in the actual colors. Then I animated a shadow layer that I placed over those frames where he’s at the window at 30%.
For the background I drew an extra wide scene in Procreate and imported it into Dreams. I included an outside, and inside, and three curtains. Two closed, one open. With all of this in Dreams I then added the camera move, and a warp effect on the open curtain to make it seem like it was pulled open quickly. It was surprisingly easy to do!
As a final touch I added a reddish tint to the end when he goes full crazy.
If anyone has any questions about the animation process, or about Dreams or anything, please feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to answer as I can.
Again, thank you for enjoying this animation. I’m deeply touched by the response.
As an added bonus, here’s my 3 favorite smear frames!

About me:
bday: march 30th
lgbt?: im bi
What can we call you?
Seraphont is fine, its supposed to be a play on of Seraph and Serif Font, you can call me Seraph!
What pronouns do you use?
I'd prefer They/Them, but you can use She/Her.
Whats your Main blog?
not posting it publically for now.
Dying and Getting Over It (DaGOI au) Related:
Where can I read DaGOI?
It will be uploaded to my Ao3. its currently being written, so there is no link to the fic yet.
When will you post the fic?
short answer: I'm not sure, possibly by early october. its my first time writing a fic, so I ask you to be patient with me! the outline is written and being tweaked, and its going through adjustments now that MD ep 8 is out. Im also moving across the world, so I'm a tad bit busy rn.
Will you include MD ep8 into the canon of your fic?
at first I was on the fence, but its grown on me, its being integrated now.
Will you be drawing all of DaGOI in comic form?
if I was a stronger man I would. I'll mostly be drawing key story moments. making comics is an aid to helping me write. so I'll be making a lot, but I may not be posting them until the chapters start coming out (trying not to spoil everything). to give you an idea, as of writing this, I have 6 comics on the backburner lol.
Art Related:
What art program(s) do you use?
Procreate -Brushes: Shiyoon Kims Wet Brush pack (X) (everything you see on this blog is made with this brushpack) and several Max Packs (X) for procreate
How long have you been drawing?
I've always drawn, but I started getting really serious at 14, around the same time I first made my main blog. I was self taught up until I got into animation school.
What do you do as a career?
I'm currently doing Freelance work for publishers and individuals. I was previously an animator, I'm making the move to storyboarding
Do you take requests/commissions?
I do have commissions open. only lineart, and flat colours are available. if you want a rendered piece: slots are closed, but you can dm me for interest.
Asks and Messaging:
Rules for asks/tagging?
Anyone can send me an Ask, Mutuals, Anons or not!
Dont send discourse or anything explicitly NSFW. you'll be blocked lol. I'd prefer if you didnt send suggestive. if you send me triggering content I’ll mind blast you into dust. (block).
Do not send and DNI's?
Transphobia, Homophobia, Acephobia. All the obvious bigot contenders.
SA, pdfilia and incest are absolute no goes.
are you okay with me direct messaging you?
only if we have spoken before/ you're giving me a headsup about something/ I've prompted you to send me one.
***minors: please refrain from dming me to chit chat, im not down to.***
Why don’t you answer my asks/dms?
my main has 1000+ asks and my other side blog is pushing 250+, sometimes the ask's get lost in the sauce. that being said, some ask's go unaswered because: 1. it might spoil too much if I were to answer. 2. I simply have to think hard to reply. 3. its super nice and im hoarding it all for myself.
Misc
Can you reblog my donation posts?
no. too many scams.

So I’m not entirely done with the page, but I just wanted to show off this thing I’m doing right now and also talk about these two (in part because delays means I can’t get my answers)
I’m trying out this thing to see if it helps me with posing (or more accurately drawing humans), where I basically have a shape layer and then that clean sketch layer that becomes my lineart
Admittedly I think one issue is that I won’t meddle with the sketch layer, as in using the enlarge/warp/distort tools, because I’ve deemed this brush one that I can’t do that with (actually I say that with most of my brushes except like one, which is my normal sketch pencil). And become of that I end up having to do most of the work on the clean layer. Which I also refuse to meddle with, but that’s also because it’s the clean layer
Like compare the shapes here with the sketches
I think I need a bit more practice, and hopefully this will be useful in it
Personally I think Peach Blossom has turned out way better, but I plan on drawing more Chocos, so we’ll see
Anyways sorry, I’ll get back to what I was saying with these two
So previously I’ve alluded to me wanting yaoi with Peach Blossom. Well if I haven’t already said before, the person I want him to have yaoi with is Dark Choco. Or even just an interaction between these two, I’d be satisfied with that, especially if it left room for non-problematic shipping
I haven’t wanted to say because we don’t know Peach Blossom yet, and I don’t want to be horribly, horribly wrong, but fuck it, I can’t take another 2 weeks of waiting, I’m saying now. Will I regret this in the future? I don’t know, hopefully not
But anyways I want to point out things about their 2 designs
One thing I noticed particularly when drawing this is that while Peach Blossom is a bunch of light, semi pastel colors, Dark Choco is a bunch of dark colors, even in this form. I know that’s nothing groundbreaking, but my mind’s fixated on these two as a pair, and I like the contrast
Secondly and something actually more interesting, I’ve noticed for a while that they’re both missing one eye, and it’s the exact same one, that being their left one. Sure we don’t really know what the whole flower eye thing is, but I imagine Peach Blossom can’t really see out of it, so missing eye
One of the reasons I find it interesting is because as far as I can tell (at least right now), Peach Blossom doesn’t need to be missing an eye, and yet he is. And this is also the update that finally brings back Dark Choco, who is also missing a left eye
Is this a coincidence? Maybe, maybe not, we’ll have to see, but shut up, I find it interesting
Anyways yeah, I just wanted to share
I’m not sure what their ship name would be since darkpeach is already taken. And I wouldn’t be surprised if darkblossom is also taken as someone’s rare pair of Dark Choco/Cherry Blossom. I mean you could call it yaoi darkpeach or something, but there should probably be a better name
#you may notice I took some liberties with Peach Blossom’s colors#this was because I didn’t want to color in white as well as having the sclera visible#and on the peach it’s just because it bugs me how his head peach doesn’t have his hair color#and that other yellow felt unnecessary to me#anyways#cookie run#cookie run kingdom#my art#peach blossom cookie#dark choco cookie#random stuff#wip#technically

DannyMerMay 2024
Day 1: Insect/Anchor
The return of Little Baby Moth! (From last year DannyMay)
Something happened since last time the two of them met, so LBMo is reasonably surprised to see Little Baby Man Mer's new form... or is this just an alternative dimension iteration of LBM (by @tourettesdog)? 🤔
(Keep reading to find the answer!)
@pikakaistudios Little Baby Mer inspired me in doing my own, so Kudos and credits where are due!
More fanarts and lore under the cut because it was getting long...
(^~^;)ゞ
Prompt for DannyMay by @dannymayevent and MerMay by @vladdyissues.
〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜
Since I'm a serial procrastinator and I wanted to be sure the art pieces were at least decent/accurate, I was almost late (but thank CW that I did, because some of them had the wrong orca-pattern and I would have brought disgrace upon myself if I published anything not done right since orcas are one of my favorite animals).
That being said, let's continue the DannyMerMay journey!
Day 12: Time Travel/Seafood
My poor Mer-boy got yoinked temporalily into the past when he was still Danny (so even before the "normal" LBM-fication) and he's feeling reeeaaally distressed at the act of practically cannibalism that his past-self is committing...
(≧∇≦)
Day 2+4+29: Wish/Starfish + Wander/Night + Fireworks/Bioluminescence
Wandering in the night, some interesting encounters are bound to happen...
I wonder what would happen if you wish upon a(n alien) star(fish)...
(≧∇≦)
Day 19+20: Iron/Pearl + Pitch AU/Abyss
LBMer found a his rightful Crown (of Fire) sunk into the depths of the ocean!
But since it was rusty and forgotten, what better way to restore it than ghostly mother pearl?
(Works like ghostly ice, but it's an exclusive power of LBMer.)
(The Crown got bigger than canon, but he smol!)
Day 26: Shoes/Camouflage
They say that imitation is one of the best form of flattery, but when you don't want to get caught by a certain dimensional hopper (and be mistaken for one of his foes), it's the best way to blend in!
(Octopi can camouflage in ways that make you think that magic is real...)
ฅ^≧ﻌ≦^ฅ
(Little Baby Terror unfortunately got caught in the same "accident" that LBM did, so they generally prefer to stick together-ish in case they need help.)
Day 16+22: Glowing Veins/Courtship + Song Lyrics/Songs
I couldn't help myself and sneaked in some Everlasting Trio for the soul.
After all, LBM (and therefore LBMer) is still Danny, even if he has new form(s) and instincts.
They do incarnate the "Would you still love me if I was a worm?", don't they?
(◡̀_◡́)
Song: A Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay
(It feels such a Danny song to use, plus I checked how orcas court and while there's some posturing, they also sing! It felt only natural from there... >:3c)
Day 11: Mutation/Shell(s)
And finally: the answer!
LBM found this weird shell on the beach while they were on vacation, but when he checked it (read: nibbed it), it reacted and tooted a magical cloud that mutated our Little Baby Man into a Mer!
(The same fate happened to Dani/Little Baby Menace and Dan/Little Baby Terror, changing them into a Seahorse Mer and Octopus Mer respectively.
I've got a lineart done of them for another prompt, but I didn't manage in time to clean and color it yet, along with a couple of others... ( ≧Д≦) )
This has two versions because I couldn't decide which was better. @teacupsandstarlight suggested the first because of the transforming smoke around our boi, but since I saved both, I told myself: why not upload both?
For now, that's all! (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧
I still have some linearts to finish/digitalize/color, but at least I contributed to these two fantastic events, hope y'all enjoyed them and my works!
Hope to type ya soon! ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

What's your comic writing process like? I'm starting to get into making my own comics and I really admire your work!!! Any advice?
Ah, intrepid traveler, you've done well to journey to this secluded mountaintop spire, in search of the answers you seek. I indeed can provide such forbidden comicmancy knowledge... at the cost of your mortal soul...
coughs. anyway, I'm going to warn you immediately that what works for me does not work for everyone else, and in my experience the way I do things can prove very slow and discouraging for anyone who is more interested in the actual "drawing the damn comic" part of the process. I only do it this way because I enjoy weaving a narrative web that feels not only fully contained but re-readable, but my projects are often so long and my memory so shitty that I can't just keep all of it in my head! It would spill all over the place and make a really embarrassing mess of brain-juice. Not ideal.
but as for my own process, uhh... I suppose a comic would be fitting, right?
a little choppy but you get the idea.
as for turning words into art, I've been experimenting with figuring out the best way to do that for a little while now. Originally what I was doing for something like Ad Astra Per Aspera was to take my "script" and sketch it out on paper very loosely, before transposing that onto my canvas and working from there:
...but, I've found that can make it kind of difficult to space everything around on your standard page-size, and the thing I'm having the most problems with currently seems to be finding the sweet spot of panel-size proportions. So, I've taken to printing out standard thumbnail templates (you can just find these on google) and sketching very tiny panels in those, which seems to give me a slightly better sense of scale... (mild chapter 5 spoilers, sorry ad astra fans)
but I have yet to totally pull through on this, so who knows, maybe I'll try something else in the future!
As for advice, this is probably most applicable to me, but as a disabled artist I have a very hard time managing my workload without literally working myself into injury. I don't think I talked about this publicly but when I was working on that ten year anniversary comic I was literally drawing every single day for 3 solid months. Sometimes, in my case, I really can't bring myself to stop once I've latched onto an idea, and sometimes I find the most rewarding thing I can do with my time is to draw- but I seriously cannot overstate: Do not fucking do this.
You will fuck up your wrist, your back, your neck, your eyes, and probably your mental health. It's a well-known fact that mangaka have a lower life expectancy than the average japanese person due to the intense workload imposed on them by deadlines and personal expectations. Comics are a very demanding artform, and even though I'm not on any sort of mandated schedule there are times where I've toiled away at something when I likely should have been exercising or taking vision-breaks. Therefore the best advice I can give you is to chill the hell out.
Namely, find parts of the process you can be lazy about, and embrace the laziness! You don't like digitally sketching? Don't do it! Skip it, or maybe find a way to traditionally sketch things out in advance like I do. Hate lineart? Don't fucking do it. You really don't feel like wasting your time writing 72k words of comic scripts? ...then, don't be like me. skip that part. I'm a flawed human being and what works for me might not work for you.
The second most important piece of advice I could give is to read comics. Of all kinds. The reason for this is pretty self explanatory: In order to figure out your own comic-making style, you should first pick out bits and pieces from the artist's buffet to add to your plate. Manga, graphic novels, american comics, european comics, weird niche little webcomics, funny papers, anything and everything. This advice rings true of pretty much any art form, but I find it to be essential to honing comic-making skills because so many things you feel will just come intuitively often don't. and that's okay! nobody is born knowing how to leave space for speech bubbles or shape their panels in a way that imitates stretches of time. The best way to figure out stuff like this, in my experience, is to study the "masters", and then after becoming well accustomed to the basics, figure out what rules you want to bend or break to create your own style.
I consider myself to be in equal parts a writer and an artist, which lends itself well to making narrative comics, but maybe you're a bit more of an artist and want to focus on panel-by-panel visual storytelling. Or, conversely, maybe your talents lean closer towards writing, and the art itself is more of a secondary skill. Regardless of your unique blend of talents you can and should make a comic, you should just also be aware of your strengths and try to hone in on those- there will always be opportunities to build up skills you lack, but focusing on what you do best will always lead you in the right direction.
Anyway, that being said, here are some recommendations in no particular order:
Monster, Naoki Urasawa (!!)
Bone, Jeff Smith
Witch Hat Atelier, Kamome Shirahama
The first IDW run of Transformers comics (namely More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light)
Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi (!!)
Through the Woods, Emily Carroll (really any Emily Carroll comics)
Kill Six Billion Demons (webcomic) (!!)
Akira, Katsuhiro Otomo
The Third Person, Emma Grove
Tintin, Hergé (can be super racist please be wary)
Dungeon Meshi, Ryoko Kui
Calvin & Hobbes, Bill Watterson
Maus, Art Spiegelman
Cucumber Quest (webcomic)
Jellyfish Princess, Akiko Higashimura
Golden Kamuy, Satoru Noda (!!)
Note that I did not grow up with manga so I am seriously behind on a lot of extremely influential japanese comics such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, basically any of the original Shonen Jump comics, but they're widely considered building blocks of the genre so if you love the artform I think you should give them a try! Same goes for classic non-shonen manga genres like various Shoujo, Josei, Yuri, Gekiga, ETC.
same as above applies to a lot of classic DC and Marvel works, I unfortunately am just not a big fan of superhero comics... but I'm sure there's good stuff in there. a couple of my mutuals talk about booster gold and the blue beetle all the time so I'm assuming there has to be something worthwhile.
...and many, many, many more that I'm forgetting! I noticed as I made this list that, to my knowledge, hardly any of these are made by black or just non-japanese-mangaka BIPOC artists, which makes me sad about the gaps in my own comic collection. Therefore, anyone is welcome to add their own recommendations in the replies!
now go forth, and combine images with text!!!!!!!!!!!
#lab notes#long post#lab creations#askbox#not hiding all this shit under a readmore. look at my advice#hopefully this helps ? I'm not a professional and I'm still fairly new to making comics but this is what I've found works for me#I'll add alt text to this later! very busy right now!

i absolutely adore the way you stylize wolves<333 theyre so simple yet expressive and the coats capture the detail so well- theyre also just so shape and your lineart is so loose and chunky /pos
would you ever do a tutorial or show some wips of your process? especially on how you stylize coats, i love the way you draw them-
if not, thats totally cool ofc!
thank you!!! :-) heres a little breakdown of my process + sort of a tutorial- i dont usually do art tutorials so im sorry if this doesnt make sense!!
a big inspiration for the way i pick colours for coats is actually this post by @/vhsdruid, so go check that out too ^_^
more specifically for wolves, there are a lot of pretty consistent features that most wolves share, like having a black tip on their tails and having countershading, so just knowing about those can make it a lot easier to simplify a coat. wolves also break down pretty easily into 3-4 colours with transitional shades between.
then all you have to do is break down the wolf into big colour blocks ^_^ ! it really doesnt have to be perfect, i mostly just make it up. i also add more colours in between because to me it always comes out looking like a husky when you have such clean distinctions of the pattern, but thats the gist.
that wolf i was using as an example was also the reference for wolf 048's coat! so you can tell how my coat stylization goes from blocks -> in between shades -> final :)
whenever i start a new wolf, i find a reference image i like for posing AND a reference image for a fun coat (like, for wolf 048, these were the reference images).
wolves also have this thing with their fur that makes it look like it has a Ton of variation in a small area which i sometimes stylize with wiggly lines, like this! vv
also, here's a speedpaint of wolf 048, and the sketch + raw lineart!!
im not really sure how helpful all that is, but im always open to answering any questions ppl have abt my art/tips for drawing wolves!! keep in mind im no expert haha (but, maybe by wolf 365, i will be?)
#art tutorial#long post#flash warning#<- to be safe w the speedpaint. its minor but#call and response

Hi! I wanted to ask for advice on finding an artstyle, I've been drawing for sometime but I still dislike my style.
Thank you in advance :D.
Hi hiii
Whenever my artstyle gets kinda boring to me, I try asking myself questions to figure out what exactly is it about my artstyle that I don’t like. Things like what is it about my art that feels boring to me while this other’s artist’s work excites me? What makes me most insecure about this piece? What do my favorite artists do in their artworks that I don’t do?
This isn’t to put yourself or your work down, make sure to go out of your way to still note anything you like or are particularly proud of in any of your artworks, you work hard on your art and that deserves to be appreciated, even if your artstyle isn’t quite at where you want it to be yet! But this is mainly what I do to try to address reasons my artstyle isn’t giving me as much joy, and what changes I can make that might make me happier. Most of the time I can’t really put my finger on what it is that I dislike about my art, so I keep these questions in the back of my mind while I try experimenting through doodles and messing around with my style in each one. Have some doodles dedicated to things you dont normally try in your artstyle. Varying eye sizes and distance from each other, some doodles with different ways of stylizing noses, trying varying levels of realism vs cartoonishness when drawing characters, and trying different brushes if doing this in digital art. If any specific doodles jump out to you as kinda neat, take note of whatever you did in that doodle and try it more often!
(Sorry i was doing this in a hurry but definitely couldve utilized more full body shots, varying poses, face at more side angles, coloring styles, would 100% reccomend experimenting with that too. But this is mostly what those batches of experiment doodles usually look like for me)
As always, it doesn’t hurt to also study other artists’s whos stuff makes you so happy and figure out what it is about their art style that excites you so much. Whatever that may be, think about if its something you want in your own art style and try replicating and practice doing it if you do want to take your art in that direction.
Quick example from me but november 2023 i remember starting to feel super uninspired with my artstyle. I asked myself what felt like the most unrewarding part of the process for drawing and realized the answer was my lineart. At the time I was seeing a lot of @/bixels ‘s artwork of drawing mlp characters as humans from the 1920’s americana and was so delighted by their lineart. I kept experimenting with brushes in my doodles and realized that using the gel pen reminded me somewhat of bixels’ art, so I took that and ran. It was a neat change after a while of having thicker lineart and actually having fun with pressure sensitivity and how the brush is able to taper.
This is what i found works for myself so im not sure how well it applies to other people or if i worded everything well, but I hope its at least a bit helpful in some way!
#tldr main tactic for is asking myself questions on how i feel about my art and why i think i feel the way that i do#asks#moth talk#love u abi. she is one of my oldest oc’s and usually the one i draw for art experiments

How are you able to finish a drawing of Ponyboy but you still haven’t finished the drawing of the poster. Hasn’t it already been two months since you started the drawing
I just don’t get why it is not done yet
Hiya! Well there’s a few reasons for this.. for one thing, the drawing that you’re speaking of (I’m presuming that you’re talking about the newest WSMS drawing I did?) was not colored, just shaded. And it was also not cleaned, the lineart was just the sketch. So.. subtracting clean lineart and my normal coloring and shading id a BIG aspect of why it took me less time. Also the movie poster drawing is a HUGE project. The time taken so far on it is 42 hours.. and that is because I’m going clean lineart and my normal coloring strategies. Along with that the movie poster drawing is just a lot more complex than the other one.. hence the time taken on it. I hope this helps answer your question! ✨
Also just incase.. your ask sounded a bit rude, I’m unsure if it was meant to come off this way but next time I’d just ask a bit differently!
