Debuting on April 5 in Japan 👒🍂🌿🌼🍁🍃

Based on the first three Anne novels by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery - Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island - comes a brand new anime! It will have a total of 24 episodes.

This is the first time books 2 and 3 are animated but Anne has been previously adapted into anime twice: First in 1979 in a series based on the first book, and later in 2009 in a show based on Before Green Gables (the prequel book authorized by the author's heirs).

The production team from the upcoming anime uploaded a new background picture two days ago, adding to the previous three already published.

From top to bottom: "Green Gables", "The Birch Path", "A sunset view of Avonlea", and last but not least, "The White Way of Delight".

“Anne of Green Gables” The Novel For Gets New TV Anime in Spring 2025

Broadcaster NHK revealed a new television anime based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables book. The Answer Studio (Kami no Tou: Ouji no Kikan, Golgo 13 (TV)) produces the anime, Anne Shirley, which will debut on NHK-E in April 2025.

Since I'm participating in @batmanisagatewaydrug 's 2025 book bingo, my reading wrap ups will look a little different this year. At the end of each month I'll post my bingo board, talk about what I've completed (both part of and outside of the board) and what else I've been reading. I am at all times rotating between like 6+ books, so it'll be fun to talk about progress with those.

Currently Reading:

Little Rot by Akwaeke Emezi - 55% complete. Reading this is like watching the most bisexual car crash in slow motion, and I mean that as the highest compliment.

We Don't Swim Here by Vincent Tirado - page 96/297. Endlessly confused as to why Tirado isn't more well-known. This book has everything. Sibling rivalry, ritual sacrifice, lesbians, estranged cousins simultaneously on the same and opposite sides, creepy lake, ghost bus. It's so good!

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson - Page 29/182. I'll admit, my having watched The Haunting (with Catherine Zeta-Jones *heart eyes*) growing up might be making this feel slower to get through, but I do like it. I especially like seeing more deeply into Eleanor's thoughts/background and filling the gaps that the movie left.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng - Page 57/336. Calling it now, this will be the book that takes me the longest to get through this year, and I'm cool with that. It feels like a good book to take in a little at a time and really digest it. I'm so intrigued by whatever Mia's got going on (I'm getting big bipolar + past trauma related to Pearl's bio father vibes?). Haven't seen much of Izzy yet, but I'm looking forward to her. Already kind of a fan after that opening tbh

Coup de Grâce by Sofia Ajram - 20% complete. Okay, so. This is cool so far, and I like the conversation happening around depression and suicide. I particularly like that it's being discussed through a character who feels he's had a good life but still can't shake it off. Dialogue and action writing is pretty good. I want to love this. That being said, some of the descriptions are giant chunks of no-doubt beautiful language that, strung together the way the author saw fit, don't make a goddamm bit of sense. Whole paragraphs have me like "what does this MEAN?" And I'm a fan of funky metaphors, figurative speech, hyperbole. I love dramatics, and these descriptions are so big and dramatic, but unfortunately they don't always land well. I still want to love it, so we'll see what happens.

The End of the Alphabet by Claudia Rankine - 17% complete. Everything is going over my head and it very much seems to be a Me issue, but I'm going to be gentle with myself on account of the soon-to-be-tested-for-MS and my processing not being what it used to be. Worth reading in my opinion (most things are) and I'll try again on a better brain day.

That's it for now! If all goes well, I'll hopefully finish most of these in February (3 of them are for the board) and get back to reading short stories again.

A new Anne anime series?

I was surfing the wide wild web when I stumbled upon the news of an upcoming Anne of Green Gables remake of the 1979 Akage no Anne anime.

I instantly had to bring back from the dead my old LMM little blog because I needed a place where to talk about it.

I only know that it's going to be called simply "Anne Shirley". I suppose the Heirs of Lucy Maud Montgomery still hold the copyright about the AoGG title and we are definitely going to see every other Anne related show make up their own moniker in the years to come.

Apparently it will be out in 2025, I still don't know exactly when, but I can't wait. I really hope it's not going to be just a remake, not only because Takahata's craft is hard to top (and they need to do something different in my opinion), but also because I want the animation studio to go beyond the first book this time around. So that we can finally have a proper adaptation of at least Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island.

I wonder if Kate Mac-Donald Butler is involved ..., I hope so, because if this is the case there is a chance that it's going to be faithful to the source material.

The Mirror newspaper were the first publication to reveal the commission late last year, where it was reported the series would focus on classic Doctor Who foes The Sea Devils, a villain first seen opposite Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor in the 1970s before returning opposite Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor in 2022.

A source later told The Sun: "Doctor Who fans love the monsters and The War Between The Land and the Sea will hopefully give viewers something new and different to enjoy. The Sea Devils and their cousins, the Silurians, have both featured in 21st-century Doctor Who, so modern audiences are familiar with them too."

Production listings for The War Between The Land And The Sea suggest the fantasy drama is to commence production in September 2024, suggesting the series will air mid-late 2025 after Season 2 of Doctor Who.

Online CVs from those involved in the series state that the show will comprise of five 60-minute episodes which will air on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK. Also stated is that the series will be directed by Dylan Holmes-Williams, who directed Doctor Who Season 1 episodes 73 Yards and Dot & Bubble.

When it comes to casting, a member of Doctor Who forum GallifreyBase has suggested the series will be led by Freeman Agyeman, reprising her role as former Doctor Who companion Martha Jones.

She will reportedly be joined by Jemma Redgrave (Kate Lethbridge-Stewart), Ruth Madeley (Shirley Anne Bingham) and Bonnie Langford (Mel Bush) as members of UNIT.

The same contributor suggested the Sea Devils will appear in the series, however will not be the main focus of the show, which will be set in present-day in a rural English village. The series will be produced by Bad Wolf Productions.

The BBC declined to comment on The War Between The Land The Sea when approached by TV Zone.

Meanwhile, the latest series of Doctor Who has become the BBC's biggest drama of the year so far for younger viewers, as well as consistently being one of the best performing titles on iPlayer.

Season 1 of Doctor Who saw Ncuti Gatwa return as the Fifteenth Doctor, alongside Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday after they made their highly acclaimed debut on Christmas Day in The Church on Ruby Road. Within the series, the Doctor and Ruby travel through time and space on adventures to unknown lands, to the Regency era in England, to outer space worlds and the sixties.

A BBC spokesperson told The Times: "Overnight ratings no longer provide an accurate picture of all those who watch drama in an on-demand world. This season of Doctor Who premiered on iPlayer nearly 24 hours before broadcast, and episode 1 has already been viewed by nearly 6 million viewers and continues to grow...

"Doctor Who remains one of the most-watched programmes on iPlayer and is the BBC’s top drama for under-35s this year, making it one of the biggest programmes for the demographic across all streamers and broadcasters."

Doctor Who is available on BBC iPlayer in the UK and Disney+ worldwide where available.
