You may have seen lots of black and white photos of women floating around with #womensupportingwomen lately. It’s also been called the #BlackAndWhiteChallenge. What’s up with that? Well they’re a trend of posts meant to celebrate other women and ourselves, no matter the color. Empowered women empower women! You also nominate the women you wanna celebrate by tagging them. But it’s more than a trend about lifting each other up, it started in 2016 and was meant to raise awareness for cancer. This round is a #calltoaction due to the violence happening in Turkey right now. Pinar Gültekin was what sparked it all. She was a young university student who was killed by her ex boyfriend earlier this month. Women in #Turkey began posting black and white photos on social media to protest #domesticviolence, the way the system treats its victims and #femicide to grieve. Similar to the #ICantBreathe posts after #GeorgeFloyd’s death. Pinar needs justice or there won’t be any peace and it’s been that way for women around the world for hundreds of years. The scale isn’t equal. We don’t get the respect, pay, etc that men do. The time is now. The time is always. I nominate all my followers to spread this message too. Tag me in them, I would love to see! But just remember to think/speak about Pinar when you do.
