• 2nd (Monday morning, first week of June) - Goode HS orientation; Percy remeets Rachel and they're attacked by Kelli and Tammi the empousai; they escape and run into Annabeth, she gets jealous, and her and Percy head to camp; Percy meets Quintus and Mrs O'Leary; Percy gets ride from Chiron to Grover's Council of Cloven Elders meeting; Grover has a week left to find Pan or they'll take his searcher's license; Percy goes to his cabin, finds Tyson there, and catches up with him; at dinner Percy tells Tyson about Nico; about midnight = Percy gets first Iris-message of Nico: him sitting on the banks of the River Styx by a fire talking to a ghost

• on Ogygia - Percy meets Calypso; he helps her plant moonlace; he stays a bit and gets his strength back up; he learns about why Calypso is on the island; Hephaestus visits and shows him the damage he did and told him how to find Daedalus (that he already had the means to do so); Percy finds out about Calypso's curse of being sent a companion who can never stay; at daybreak he leave the island

[The day Percy got back from Ogygia was a Friday (the day after when they go into the city it says it's a Saturday, pg 242). He was gone from the real world for two weeks. After they went back into the Labyrinth from Triple G Ranch on the 13th, by my best estimation, they were in the Labyrinth for a few hours Labyrinth time (no more than a day real time). From there, the Friday two weeks later is June 27th.]

• June 27th - Percy gets back to CHB and finds out he's been gone for 2 weeks; Chiron tells Percy Quintus disappeared 3 nights ago; night = Percy has dream of Minos and him getting killed by the king's 3 daughters who were hiding Daedalus; then he dreamt of Luke and his army traveling through the maze (no string)

• June 28th - Percy and Annabeth go into the city to visit Percy's mom; Percy calls Rachel; they meet up with her and enter the maze

• in maze - they get caught and led to an arena; they meet Antaeus, son of Poseidon; Percy fights Ethan Nakamura; Percy fights and defeats Antaeus; Mrs O'Leary comes to the rescue as a distraction as Percy, Annabeth, Rachel, and Ethan escape; Ethan goes off on his own; they make camp and sleep; Percy has a dream that Kronos shows him a vision of Tyson and Grover being in trouble; they wake up, go further into the maze, and arrive at Daedalus' workshop; they find out Quintus is Daedalus; he tells them Luke already has the string; Kelli the empousa and Minos burst in with 2 laistrygonians and Nico in chains; Nico said he was tricked into going back in the maze by Minos saying Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, and Grover were in danger; a fight breaks out; when Minos says that he is the ghost king, Nico says "No, I am." then the ground swallows up Minos and the rest of the spirits that were gathering; Annabeth kills Kelli as Kelli is on top of Percy about to kill him; Nico, Percy, Annabeth, and Rachel escape using the metal wings and leave Daedalus and Mrs O'Leary behind

• out of maze - they fly over Colorado Springs and quickly land; Rachel "suspiciously" gets a luxury ride into town so they can search for an entrance into the maze; they find one through an abandoned mine shaft

• in maze - as they're walking they pass a side tunnel that leads to Mount Tamalpais; Annabeth gives her invisibility cap to Percy and he goes to investigate

• out of maze - he hears/sees Ethan Nakamura with some Telkhines unwrapping something; once it's uncovered Percy realizes it's Kronos' scythe and runs away from is fast as he can; Percy comes into the room that holds Kronos' sarcophagus, approaches it, pushes back the lid, and finds Luke inside looking "very, very dead"; Ethan pledges his allegiance and Kronos rises; when he's about to attack Percy, Rachel "hit the Lord of the Titan's in the eye with a blue plastic hairbrush"; they run away back into the maze; Nico makes a solid black wall come out of the ground so that they can't follow

• in maze - they run until they can't anymore and come into a cave; as they're about to head to New York, they find Grover's cap on the ground and his and Tyson's footprints leading deeper into the cave; they get reunited with Grover and Tyson and go through a sort of archway that they can feel a strong presence; they find Pan laying in a bed with various extinct animals: Dede the dodo bird, cross between a tiger and a wolf, a huge rodent "like the mother of all guinea pigs," and a wooly mammoth; Pan tells them that he is fading/dying and gives each of the (except Nico) a blessing of sorts to carry on his legacy/the Wild; Pan gives final blessing and dies

• June 30th (out of maze) - they come out in Times Square; all but Rachel fly to camp on Blackjack and his Pegasi buddies; they prep for battle and not too long after all Hades breaks loose; Percy sees one of Dionysus' kids gets stabbed in the arm and knocked out; Nico summons undead warriors in order to keep monsters from invading Camp; Percy kills a hellhound and helps Grover and Juniper put out a tree fire; Kampê makes her entrance; Percy runs toward her with Annabeth alongside him: "This might be it." / "Could be." / "Nice fighting with you Seaweed Brain." / "Ditto"; Mrs O'Leary saves Percy and Annabeth from Kampê and her and Daedalus and Briares join the fight; Grover screams/makes a horrific sound and all the enemies flee back into the maze; Daedalus' apologizes for his previous actions and gives Annabeth one of his laptops he salvaged from the fire; Nico decides not to use Daedalus' soul to bring Bianca back and helps release his spirit; "That night was the first time I actually saw camp burial shrouds used on bodies, and it was not something I wanted to see again."; among the dead, Lee Fletcher (Apollo) and Castor (Dionysus)

• July 1st - they treated the wounded, which was basically everyone, and repaired damage; noon = Council of Cloven Elders meeting; Grover's noise = a gift from Pan: panic; Mr D steps in and supports/defends Grover, so that he doesn't get exiled; afternoon = Percy goes to beach where Tyson and Briares are and they say goodbye to Briares who's going to the forces and Tyson is staying at camp with Percy; after dinner = Nico went into woods, Percy followed, and Nico says he is leaving to find answers about his past… and something else ..; Percy gives him the Hades Mythomagic figurine and tells him maybe it's okay to still be a kid once in a while; after Nico leaves Mr D appears and walks with Percy back to campfire; Percy sees that Mr D cured Chris of madness: "You cured him?" / "Madness is my specialty. It was quite simple." / "But...you did something nice. Why?" / I am nice! I simply ooze niceness, Perry Johnson. Haven't you noticed?"; then he gets serious and tells Percy sometimes small things can become very large indeed

• 16th (last day of camp) - 10am = Percy stood on half-blood hill; him and Annabeth talk briefly and he finds out the last line of her prophecy: "and lose a love to worse than death"; Hera appears and says that her quest was a success, and points out ways she helped, and that the ones who died are better off dead and that Nico was right that no one wanted him around, then said she would welcome a sacrifice for her efforts [and so the hatred for Hera begins]; Annabeth says that Hera is the one who doesn't belong, then Hera says, "You will regret this insult, Annabeth. You will regret this very much." then she leaves

• 18th - Percy turns 15; his mom threw a small party, and Paul and Tyson were there; Tyson and Sally blew up balloons while Paul asked Percy to help him in the kitchen; Paul guesses he had a rough summer, lost someone important, and was having girl trouble; then Paul asked Percy's permission to propose to Sally and Percy approves; a bit later, Poseidon shows up and gets to meet Paul, then talks to Percy privately; Percy tells him what happened over the summer, and Poseidon tells him of the trouble he's been having with the old sea gods; Poseidon gives him a sand dollar; Percy asks about Antaeus, and Poseidon tells him that he is his favorite son; then he tells him that the incident on Mount St Helens caused Typhon to stir, and that in a few months, or a year at best, he will escape his prison; then Poseidon leaves; the rest of them eat cake and play games, then Percy goes to his room with another slice of blue birthday cake; Percy finds the moonlace flower in his pocket and plants it outside his apartment window; then Nico appears out of nowhere; he tells him that he has an offer for Percy, a way to beat Luke, and Percy invites him in for cake and ice cream while they discuss the plans Nico has

Roses and Regrets

She hasn’t talked to Percy in two weeks.

She’s acutely aware of the fact too. You’d notice if one of your closest friends suddenly stopped talking to you. Well…not that suddenly. If she thinks back, the distance had been growing between them as unspoken tension lingered in the background and unsaid words grew heavier.

But even then, the off-kilter feelings and friction between them seemed to have come out of nowhere. It just doesn’t make sense to her.

But everything is like that with Percy. Nothing ever really makes sense. He is like a whirlwind of emotions and half-sentences and loose puzzle pieces.

A honk shakes her out of her thoughts, as she catches sight of Luke’s car outside. It’s a shiny silver, very clean, and he gets out of the car to open the door for her, offering a smile and a single white rose.

It’s very nice.

He tells her she looks beautiful; she blushes, and they talk over a quiet radio and arrive at a nice restaurant. And from there they follow the beats of a date: dinner, sweet smiles, dessert, a kiss good night.

She sighs when she shuts the door, a pleasant smile on her face. It’s been a nice day, no tensions, no fighting, no whirlwind. A good time with nice company and she feels calm for once.

Fishing out a vase, she puts her single white rose in water. Simple and perfect. She thinks maybe she’s finally got what she wants.

Luke makes sense, she realizes while walking in the park (she’s supposed to be jogging but has absolutely no motivation to do so). She can understand him, his actions, his goals, his personality.

As if on cue her phone rings. It’s him, of course, calling exactly when he said he would.

She picks up and he’s polite and charming, asks her how her jog is going, and chuckles when she tells him it isn’t and it’s nice to feel comfortable.

Her mind harkens back to Percy (without her permission, she might add) and how by now he would have made a teasing comment about her getting out of shape if she continued on like this (even though his homemade cookies that he always brought over were the problem). But even though he’d obviously be teasing, it’d annoy her enough to make her jog twice the distance she would’ve just to prove a point.

Even just thinking about it has her a little worked up and she shakes him out of her mind. Luke is asking her about dinner and she readily agrees, finally admitting defeat on her jog in favor of going home and getting ready.

Dinner is nice, as is everything with Luke, and by the end of the night she gets another white rose and a sweet kiss to show for it.

When she gets home, she puts the white rose next to the other and they sit there next to each other, pristine and perfect.

She goes to sleep with a smile on her face.

“We don’t have to go if you don’t want to,” Luke says as they’re debating going barhopping over the weekend. A lot of her friends are going, and it’ll probably be fun but…

“It’s not that I don’t want to go, I just…I don’t know!” She’s frustrated⁠—she hates being indecisive⁠—but bars and parties aren’t that much her thing so she’s on the fence about it and…

Luke puts his arm around her and continues in his calm voice, “It’s alright, Annabeth. We’ll do whatever you want.”

It’s such a stark contrast to what Percy would do. By now, Percy would have declared his opinion and would probably be pushing her towards going to the event with that stupid wide grin on his face.

She huffs at the thought. She tells Luke she doesn’t want to go.

So, they don’t. She ends up with another white rose and goes to bed mostly content with her decision.

The next day all her friends have posted about how fun the event was. She stares at her white roses and thinks it’s probably alright.

A week later she’s hoisting up groceries to her apartment, huffing and puffing by the time she gets to her door. ⁠

She makes a face as she sets the bags down and toes off her shoes. She hasn’t been out of breath like this in a long while, especially since she’d been building up a better tolerance for cardio through her daily jog⁠—

Except…she hadn’t actually jogged in weeks.

Her frown deepens as she puts the food away. She needs to get back into the habit, but she doesn’t know why she stopped in the first place.

Her phone dings with a notification that Piper has posted something on Instagram. To fulfill her best friend duty, she immediately opens it up to like it.

The post is about the bar hop event that she missed and features a grinning Piper, Thalia and Jason all holding microphones, captioned with “never sang Eye of The Tiger better!!”

She likes the picture and comments a heart emoji, but her frown isn’t going away. She really should have gone…she just…

She’s frustrated again. It’s been like this for a while now, everything seems kind of off and she can’t put her finger on why. And she’s frustrated more often than she ever wants to be.

She sighs. She’s just had a bad run of it, it’ll be alright. She’ll get back into the swing of things.

Lost in her thoughts, she doesn’t realize her frown has settled on the white roses sitting prettily in the water.

Luke drops her off at the coffee shop she’s meeting Piper at. The smile she’s been faking slips away and the frown settles back on her face as she aimlessly fiddles with the with today’s⁠— of course⁠—white rose.

“Hey Beth!” Piper is one of two people in the entire world who can call her that. She tries not to think of the other person.

She gives her best friend a hug. “Hey Pipes.”

“What’s with the white rose?” she asks, dropping her bag to the floor as she sits down.

Annabeth shrugs. “Luke gives them to me.”

Piper raises an eyebrow. “Why?”

She shrugs again. “I don’t know, to be nice?”

“But you don’t even like white roses?”

It’s true that she had once declared she didn’t care for white roses and would carry red roses instead at her own wedding. Granted, that had been a few wineglasses and years ago, but she supposes it still rings true.

She shrugs for the third time, suddenly anxious to get away from the topic, and sets the flower down a little ways away. It’s bright against the dark wood of the table.

She turns towards Piper and asks her about Jason.

It’s two am and she cannot call asleep. Her mind is spinning with way too many thoughts and she can’t turn any of them off. One thing just leads to another and another and another until sea green eyes fill her mind and she’s thinking about Percy.

It’s been a month and now in the darkness of night she can admit that she misses him. She doesn’t even know why. Everything was a mess with him, nothing made sense, it was all complex and chaotic emotions. He pushed her buttons, pulled her away from comfortability, and it was a constant whirlwind.

With Percy it was all breaking down and coming undone and an almost roller coaster kind of rush. She swears he’s insane but⁠—

But she still misses him, despite all that.

She curses his name, turns over, and tries to block out the memories of hearts beating fast and the strange freedom that came with screaming in the rain.

She’s ready early, because Luke always shows up on time, looking aimlessly out the window for signs of the shiny silver car.

Her gaze naturally lands on the vase of white roses, still looking pretty and pristine, and suddenly they’re making her frown instead of smile. They’re suddenly too elegant, too perfect, and it makes her stomach churn.

It’s such an intense emotion and it comes out of nowhere and⁠—

It doesn’t make sense.

Strangely enough, the thought makes her smile. Things not making sense? She’s used to that, used to figuring that out, used to it because Percy⁠—

Percy motivates her to jog when she doesn’t want to (because he knows how she hates herself for it afterwards if she skips out). Percy pushes her towards new experiences that might be a little out of her comfort zone (and it’s those experiences she remembers the most vividly). Percy is a mess, he’s rain and screaming, puzzle pieces that don’t quite fit and a rollercoaster she didn’t know she missed.

Percy doesn’t make sense.

And Percy is everything she nee⁠—

A honk breaks her out of her thoughts.

Percy is late.

The beat up, messy, blue Prius is a sigh for sore eyes. He doesn’t get out of the car to let her in but invites her in by turning up the volume and belting out Rick Astley’s Never Going To Give You Up.

He offers a wide grin, telling her she looks absolutely stunning, and a few seconds later she’s screaming along to the lyrics with him.

She’s jogged everyday for the past week, they’re on their way to some event downtown that she’s not sure of, but Percy’s look of excitement is everything.

As quickly as he had turned it up, he lowers the volume suddenly, and when she turns to look at him questioningly, he’s just staring at her.

It’s a little uncomfortable and completely out of left field and of course it doesn’t make sense.

But she’s used to it, used to figuring it out.

She sighs when she shuts the door behind her. It’s been a great day, she has tingling lips and a smirking Percy in front of her to show for it.

His next kiss causes her to lose all brain functions and she wonders if maybe she’s the insane one. Her hands let go of her stuff and it falls to the floor as she tangles her fingers in his hair.

It’s messy and wild and she feels the whirlwind inside of her. She never knew she could feel this much.

Nico: I can't decide if he's a Gryfindor or hufflepuff. I know a lot of people want him to be in Slytherin, but that doesn't work cause he's not that ambitious. Anyways, he's probably good in ancient ruins and maybe charms. But he is TERRIBLE at herbology, every plant he touches seems to die. He's a pureblood, and his patronous is a Grim, Will Solace: I think he's a Gryfindor, and I know people sort him into Hufflepuff... and don't get me wrong he's loyal, but he's the only one who had enough courage to number 1: not be afraid of Nico, 2: do a bunch of insane medical procedures. and 3: holds the Apollo cabin together. Moving on... he's good at healing magic and his life goal is to become a healer, I sorta think his patronous is a sheep.... And he's a muggleborn Octavian: hmm I'm thinking slytherin. He's good at Divination... or at least he thinks he is..... his patronous is a rodent of some sort, he's a muggleborn but says he's a pureblood.

Percy: he's in hufflepuff his fatal flaw is LOYALTY, after all. He'd probably be pretty good in defense against the dark arts. He's very likely to fall asleep during history of magic. Story

Lucy is a nineteen year old daughter of Ares. She was born to Talia Cohen. Her mother died during childbirth, leaving her to her grandfather. When he first saw her, he screamed, yelling about the devil, and fled, claoming he would not take her. She was born with red eyes, like the devil, as her grandfather said. Her mother had no other family, so she was placed into the system. She had been given the name Lucy by one of the nurses from when she was born. As noone had given her a name, it was decided that Lucy, inspired by Lucifer due to her grandfather's reaction. and due to her eyes, would be perfect.

She bounced back and forth between homes, never staying too long due she was labeled a problem child. No one wanted to help the kid who freaked everyone out, that no one wanted. They let her struggle in school, and when she didn’t behave like they wanted, she was sent away again.

This continued on for years, no one ever really believing in her. Except for one person. In her fifth grade year, she had a teacher who didn’t believe what everyone else said, but instead tried to really see her. She was the first person ever to tell her that she was good, that she was kind, and that she was loved. Lucy still holds on to these memories, she uses them as reminders when she spirals, and when she needs to be reminded that she is good. She tries to live up to her former teachers belief in her, and uses her as the memory to drive her towards remaining a nice person.

When she was 14, she was in a home in Virginia Beach. When she was walking home from school with one of the older children from the home when they were attacked by a monster. The other child revealed themselves to be sent from Camp Halfblood, and that they were here to bring her to camp.

She has been at camp Halfblood since, and is a year rounder. She has never tried to return to the 'real world'. Instead she stays at camp, and apparently occasionally, even fights in legitimate wars. During this war, she comes to the realization that she can raise fallen enemies to fight with her. That was a crazy ability that she didn't realize she was capable of before the war, and 3 months later, is still trying to process.

Percy once rode to battle in his mom’s car.

Percy named the Ophiotaurus Bessie, because he thought it sounded like a good cow name.

Travis and Connor gave the hunter named Phoebe a T shirt with centaur blood sprayed on the inside.

Dionysus almost dropped Percy and Blackjack off the top of the Chrysler building.

Atlas created some cuddly kittens... er,infernal fuzzy little beasts by accidentally planting saber toothed tiger teeth.

The whole fight with the Nemean Lion. Like... Percy jumping from one aircraft onto another spacecraft is literally one of the coolest fight scenes ever.

Percy’s a pretty great pitcher.

He defeated the Nemean Lion by throwing nasty space food in it’s mouth!!

Apollo and Athena both helped Percy during this quest, though they both had their own reasons in doing so.

Riptide was originally Zoe’s gift to Heracles.

Percy and Bianca actually got along pretty well, and they’d have been really good friends if she’d lived.

Pan sent the Erymanthian Boar, the blessing of the wild, to help them.

Percy is the first one to whom Thalia confesses her fear of heights, also Thalia is the one who makes Percy see Annabeth’s feelings for him.

Grover loves coffee as much as I do, maybe even more.

Ch5&6 lightning theif

I read two chapters today because I was busy studying for my midterm last night. Stats 151 can suck an egg. I would like to hopefully never take that class again.

Percy is in shock. He’s in a cabin eating weird pudding and iced tea that is supposed to taste like something you really like I think. Idk. Later in the chapter I found out it’s called ambrosia and necter. Percy recovers and he is met with Grover trying to wear shoes, but he has hooves and he gives him the Minotaur horn that Percy broke as a souvenir. Grover has a orange shirt that’s says camp half blood. They go to another building and they see mr Brunner and a small baby man with a tiger shirt. They are playing cards. Annabeth is also there, but mr Brunner sends her to make preparations in cabin 11 for Percy. Baby man turns out to be Dionysus the god of wine and he has been grounded by his dad Zeus so now he’s in the camp. Mr D takes Grover and gives him a scolding or something and he is taken away. Mr Brunner is revealed to be Chiron a centaur and he gives Percy a tour. Cabins are assigned by who your god parent is. Some cabins are empty and some have kids in it. The ugly red cabin is filled with rowdy kids. I knew that was an Ares cabin. Percy was sent to the Hermes cabin which was full of kids. Chiron leaves and Annabeth is there to take over the tour. They asked if he was regular or undetermined which I guess means if he belongs there or just passing by. Annabeth tells the kids he is undetermined and they groan. Percy’s spot is some random space on the floor. He doesn’t trust the Hermes kids because their god is the god of travellers and theives. Annabeth peels Percy out of the cabin and scolds him because he said something weird and an Ares kid with 2 others approach them. The main leader was named Clarisse and she just grabbed Percy by the neck and pulled him into a smelly bathroom. She tried to shove his head into a toilet, but the water came up and attacked her and she was hosed down along with her little gang. Annabeth got soaking too, but not washed away like them. Percy was the only dry one. The area gang runs away and Clarisse swears that she’s gonna get him during capture the flag. Annabeth is impressed and wants Percy in her team

I know I said that if I had to pick a God to be my parent it would be Hades, but Clarisse.. um. I remember talking about Nancy and how if I ever met a kid like her I’d grab her by skin of her neck and grand slam her. I thought it was funny that Clarisse also aimed for the neck and pretty much just dragged him by it to the bathroom. I would like to point out that I’m mostly a pasifist and violence shouldn’t always be an answer so some difference there. I’m a bit of a softie so I wouldn’t say that Ares is my godly parent.

Now hold the phone. Hermes is the god of theives and they know this. This is like the biggest foreshadowing. I mean I also saw the movie. By the way the movie starts to stray really early in the book. They are 12 not 16ish, Chiron is supposed to have a white stallion half, Percy upon arriving to camp isn’t placed in a posidon cabin immediately, no one tells him who his parent is, the ares kids exist and are never mentioned in the movie. Also at the end of chapter 6 when Percy hits Clarisse with water gun she is the one that wants to beat up Percy. In the movie Annabeth and Percy have a 1v1 battle, but I think I’m This book it’s gonna be between him and Clarisse. Annabeth even said that she wanted him on her team. I can see why people got frustrated about the movie. In anime it usually follows the manga and sometimes there are differences with the ending like in FMA and parts in Soul eater, but it still follows cannon on the most part. The movie is straying pretty far from the book, not too far tho. It’s like parallel lines. It’s 2 stories with the same direction, but they’re seperated. Similar but not in the same plane kind of thing. Weird

When I was trying to read the 2 chapters I didn’t think I’d be able to do it. Sounds weird right? I thought I’d get bored and just stop after ch5, but the end was interesting and I did skip the day before so I went all the way to chapter 6. The way that ended really made me want to do ch7 too, but I needed to pull back. Save it for later kind of thing. Percy has no field experience unlike the rest of the kids and they’re gonna toss him into a scary cature the flag game. Wild. I would like to see how this goes. In the movie they made him win after fighting Annabeth. I think it would be interesting if in the next chapter when he fights Clarisse that he would lose miserably. He knows he’s got this power that helps him in tight situations, but he doesn’t know how to control it or how it works yet. Something something character development.

I also read the part where Percy saw Annabeth blush at Luke. Okay girl he’s like 19. You’re 12. A sixth grader and some guy going into college. Someone is gonna catch a case. He’s too old for you right now girl. Annabeth is an interesting character she was super curious and had high expectations when Percy came to the camp. She helped rehabilitate him when he was in shock and would stay with him while he slept. She knew about his mom and the fury cause he would sleep talk and how would she hear that? She’s be there when he was sleeping. Her god parent is Athena goddess of knowledge right? So she wants to seek more knowledge or she’s curious by nature? Idk. It’s just weird cause it seemed like she was being nice to him, but when he woke up for real she pointed out how he drools in his sleep. That’s not the friendliest thing to say to someone. She does somewhat have interest/care in him cause she questions why he’s saying these things when the Hermes kids laughed at him. What I’m trying to get at is if she likes him or not. Not in the romantic sense but in the as a person sense. It almost feels like she is just testing him out and sorta seeing how he would react to stuff. I just thought her first initial greeting to him was weird and I thought it was a bit out of character cause she had been nice to him before. I think it will be nice to see who she is as a character while reading the book.

Also poor Grover. He’s 20ish years old and a late bloomer. I feel bad for him cause apparently he was guarding another kid 5 years ago that died. That is rough. He blames himself for Sally’s death too. He just wants to be good at his job and now it seems like he’s being fired. I would like for that not to happen. He’s such a cool guy

Heaven's Doorstep / Chapter 1 / PeterMJ

"Scalpel, Ms. Watson, the scalpel!" The barking orders of the surgeon beside her was the only thing that could have pulled her out of her trance. She had never seen a beating heart before. Sure, she's felt plenty of heartbeats. She's played with a few fake heart models in her eighth grade health classes. But now that she stood face to f-- flesh, with it, she felt sick. Silently, she grabbed the small blade from the tray in front of her, shakily handing it to the surgeon. With bated breath behind her mask, MJ could feel the tension building up around her as Dr. Brown leaned over the body, making the first incision. Multiple sighs of relief were in perfect sync around the small surgical room. The first incision was made, and everything went smoothly. Still, that didn't stop her own heart from beating wilding in her chest, vibrating her entire body. Now inching towards the third hour of the procedure, Mary-Jane was finally getting into the groove of things. Being the assistant to the head surgeons, all she did was hand out tools. Or so she thought. "Ms. Watson, please pick up the .25 millimeter syringe filled with anesthetic and make an injection here," He signaled to a small spot in the tissue of the heart. "M-me? You want me to do it?" Her own heart sank to the floor. "Is your name Ms. Watson? Please, make the injection!" The irritation was easy to pick up in his voice. Swallowing the lump in her throat, MJ hesitantly grabbed the syringe from the tray, hands trembling. Slowly, she lowered her hand closer to the patient, before injecting the anesthetic and pulling back with bated breath. Thirty seconds later, she let out a long breath. She has done something right for once. Yet suddenly, out of nowhere, the body began to seize on the table. Dr. Brown immediately drew back, cursing profoundly. There was panic and chaos. Suddenly there was screaming, phone calls, and directions being yelled from all over. "What the hell happened?" "She's losing blood!" "Patient's airways are constricted!" MJ had gone into a shock. She couldn't breathe, she couldn't feel anything yet she felt everything. Her ears began to tune everything out, and she was quickly pushed out of the way by fellow surgeons who were barking orders she couldn't hear. Suddenly, something brought her back from her trance. A long beep cut through the mangled voices. Looking up with glossed over hazel eyes, MJ realized what it was. There she stood, face to face, with the flatline of the heart rate monitor. The patients name was Annabeth Grave. She was twenty seven years old. She had a daughter, a mother and father, and a sister. Mary-Jane couldn't take it. No matter how many times everyone tried to tell her it wasn't her fault; it wasn't her fault she was allergic to the certain anesthetic, she just turned her head and walked off. Even Peter, the cute boy from Chemistry Two, couldn't cheer her up. Even now, a month later, sitting in the lecture hall, she let her head rest in her palm, red hair pulled up into a unkempt bun. Dark rings and splotchy redness decorated her eyes, whose lids dropped from lack of sleep. Thirty minutes into the lecture, the girl gave in and let her eyes close finally, gaining a good nap. The truth was, she wasn't able to close her eyes without seeing the flatline, the broken and angry faces of Annabeth's loved ones. She can still hear her sisters voice ringing in her ears: "Damn you! You did this to her! You killed her! You'll be sorry, you just wait!" Suddenly bolting up from her sleep, woken by her own nightmare, Mary-Jane. rubbed her eyes furiously and looked around. Her eyes landed on Peter, who quickly let his dark brown eyes fall from her. "I hope you weren't stalking me in my sleep. That would've been weird." she joked, a small smile gracing her tired features when Peter's face grew as red as a tomato. "Er-- I — I copied down your notes for you while you were sleeping. You looked like you needed it." MJ furrowed her brows at his comment, but before she could reply Peter immediately got the hint. "No, not in a bad way! I just meant, uh, I meant you uh - you seemed like you needed a good nap." Mary-Jane tried smiling at this, but she didn't have the energy. That's when Peter spoke again. "Hey, uh - d-do you think you'd maybe want to.. maybe you would want to do something--" before he could finish his rambling, the bell rang and a great deal of shuffling and buzzing of voices interrupted him. "Thanks for the notes, Tiger."
