ROUND 1A, MATCH 8 OUT OF 8!

Cause of Death & Propaganda Under the Cut:
Rachel Bronev
Cause of Death: Unspecified Illness
Propaganda:
So much lost potential!! She is related to several important characters and so her death is to make every other (male) character cry. It only counts as one character's backstory, though: the other characters already have different dead woman backstories.
Grandma Rosiepuff
Cause of Death: Consumed; Sacrificed Herself to Save Grandson
Propaganda:
"BECAUSE SINGING KILLED MY GRANDMA, OK?"
Anna Irving
Cause of Death: Murdered by the Love of Her Life When Transformed into a Monster
Propaganda:
She’s the main characters mother and there’s just so much wasted potential in her character. She’s literally killed off before the start of the game for Kratos man pain as well as causing Lloyd pain later when he finds out the truth. And we never hear anything else about her, her only relevance to the story is her death.

More Tales of Symphonia spoilers
Today's topic: Kratos on the Journey of Regeneration. Because, why?
I was thinking about this, and Kratos being a part of the Journey of Regeneration is kinda weird, for a couple reasons.
Kratos is too important for this job. Kratos is literally a seraphim, second to only Mithos himself in their world dominating team. Playing nursemaid to the Chosen seems a bit beneath his standing. Even a lesser ranked angel like Remiel only has to appear to Colette at the seals to make sure she has what she needs and sends her off to the next seal. It's possible the Chosen's group normally gets a member from Cruxis to help guide them along on their journey but the fact that it's Kratos is really weird.
Anna and Kratos' departure After Anna died (14 years before the start of the game), Kratos returns to Cruxis and Mithos. He is basically an empty husk at this point, is super apathetic and doesn't care about stopping Mithos or saving the world and is willing to go along with whatever Mithos says. He's despondent and apathetic (and, depending on if the short stories are canon, he possibly knows about Yuan trying to unseal Origin (for the Eternal Sword)). This seems like a very terrible mindset to send Kratos out in. I know it's been 14 years since Anna when the Journey is happening, but 14 years for a 4,000-year-old is 0.2 seconds of his total lifespan, so I can easily see it taking Kratos a LONG time to process Anna's death and I can see him not being as active or alive as he was previously. It seems like a suboptimal way to send Kratos out. (Which makes me wonder, if my following reasons hold water, why didn't he send Yuan to escort Colette as he didn't know Yuan had betrayed him yet?) If nothing else, Kratos intentionally left Mithos and came back notably more damaged than when he left. Sending someone out like that sounds like a bad idea. Did the departure make Mithos question Kratos' loyalty? (especially since Kratos literally went out and freed a bunch of people from a human ranch.) (Did Mithos ever know about Anna and Lloyd? Yuan obviously does (see outside Altessa's) and Anna was an important part of the Angellus project so it makes sense that he would know about her. Kvar did. I feel like Mithos makes some comment about it, implying that he does know in the Tower of Salvation.)
Other responsibilities It's not clear what the seraphim do on a normal day (apparently it includes long absences as Yuan has time to run the Renegades) but I assume they have duties and responsibilities, even if it's just to work towards the revival of Martel. We see some of that when Kratos uses his influence to pass Lloyd's team off as gathering materials for some procedure in Welgaia, which seems innocuous or at least that Kratos has the authority to make calls like that, but it also implies he has responsibilities for which it use his authority. And presumably they don't include babysitting the Chosen (though I can see a mandatory participation when seeing if the transfer will work), as 7 died before Colette and I can't imagine Mithos letting that slide if he is expecting Yuan or Kratos to be defending the Chosen. I don't know if this point is real or not, but I have to imagine they do SOMETHING in the hierarchy beyond "old friends of Mithos" so they get perks. Like, is there nothing better for Kratos to be doing here?
Kratos and Kvar I know it was probably Mithos who sent Kratos and he probably doesn't care about Kvar much, but honestly letting Kratos get that close to Kvar and expecting things NOT to go badly is improbable at best. Maybe Mithos suspected betrayal in the ranks and low-key allowed Kratos to kill Kvar or he didn't care either way. Maybe he thought Kratos wouldn't go anywhere near the ranches and they wouldn't meet so it would be fine. I think putting Kratos into any kind of position where he might potentially run into Kvar on the Journey is playing with fire though. And we know the Cardinals do interact with their local towns/cities, so there's not a 0% chance that Kratos would encounter Kvar, even if it was in Asgard as opposed to the Ranch itself. It just seems like a needlessly messy outcome that achieves nothing. (Though, Pronyma is the closest Cardinal to the Seraphim and the Cardinals are a very backbiting group, so it's possible Pronyma got Mithos to agree to it as she saw Kvar trying to unseat her position and wanted to get rid of him.)
Bonding Especially after Anna, it's kind of dangerous for Mithos to let Kratos bond with other people. Maybe he thinks his position is secure as, because of their long lives, Yuan, Mithos and Kratos will always be bonded by time and experience and in some ways will be stuck with each other because none of them die. I can see Mithos relying on that and believing Kratos will always be more loyal to him and Yuan because of their long history together, but Anna proves him wrong. Kratos was more loyal to Anna and Lloyd than Mithos and letting Kratos join the Journey and giving him time to bond with other people could again compromise his loyalty. It's possible Mithos thought that wouldn't happen due to Kratos' apathetic state, but it is literally exactly what did happen (admittedly, if Lloyd hadn't been part of the group, Kratos wouldn't have switched sides, so bonding alone isn't enough to challenge the loyalty, but in the case of someone like Anna, it was. Mithos was taking an unnecessary risk there.) I can think of some reasons why Mithos WOULD send Kratos though.
The Renegades We know the Renegades successfully killed at least the Chosen before Colette but I'm pretty sure there have been 7 failed Chosens immediately before Colette's journey. It's possible that the lack of a successful Chosen meant that the mana in Sylvarant was becoming dangerously low for Mithos' taste and not just the world's so Mithos sent Kratos along personally because he knew he could get the job done.
Colette's mana signature Still not sure how mana signatures work, but if Mithos is able to tell the child's mana signature from birth when the angel comes to bestow the title of Chosen on the child, then it's possible he was able to tell early on that Colette's mana signature was VERY close and maybe even close enough to work with Martel, so he didn't want to take a chance that something could go wrong and the Renegades could get her, so Kratos was sent to personally ensure her success.
Yuan or Kratos always journey with the Chosens I've seen theories that it's normal for either Yuan or Kratos to help guide the Chosens on the Journey as a way of helping them and ensuring a body for Mithos at the end of it. I'm not super on board with this theory though because if it was true, wouldn't Kratos and Yuan have more of a "divine role" in it? If they were sent every time, why as mercenaries instead of actual angels, which would help build the storytelling of the journey? Also, Kratos uses his actual real name when he joins the team, and I think if he or Yuan were sent on every journey, and they WEREN'T divine figures, someone would notice that it's always the same dude - especially because there's only necessarily 1 generation between Chosen journeys in the declining world, so it's possible a single person could live to see many failed journeys. Having the same person guiding each Chosen and using his real name sounds like a terrible idea in this position.
Mithos is testing Kratos I think this reason is probably the most compelling. After Kratos left with Anna and freed prisoners, stayed on the run, I can see Mithos questioning Kratos's loyalty, especially when he comes back and just goes along with whatever Mithos wants. Maybe he was trying to see if Kratos really did believe in his vision, or he wanted to know if Kratos would go rogue again and was giving him the chance to? (which, sorta happened via Raine and her propensity to destroy every human ranch in sight (but in the end, Kratos "stayed loyal" (at least in the time frame of the Journey of Regeneration))) Mithos obviously doesn't trust easily, and generally Yuan and Kratos are seen as above reproach, but I can see Mithos being uneasy about Kratos leaving and wanting to see if he was still on his side. (Especially once Lloyd enters the picture as Mithos knows EXACTLY how far familial loyalty can extend, but this can't be taken into consideration as the decision would be made before they found Lloyd.)
I also think it's notable to mention that: No One Knew Lloyd was in Iselia. That was a surprise for Kratos AND Mithos. So it's pretty crazy that the entire plan fell apart based on that one fact.
It just seems weird to me.
