My second pick for today’s @sera-myu-week​ theme, starring Hikari Ono, is New Innocent Demand. 

I gushed over Hikari’s acting and singing skills before but I did not mention her dancing! She is a lady of many talents. I also slightly prefer this arrangement over Innocent Demand so here it is.

Hi! I’m wondering if you have seen the Sailor Moon musicals? If you have, could you rank your favorites? I’m wanting to dive into them and don’t know where to start lol

Oh you bet I can! I’ve actually seen “Le Mouvement Final” in Tokyo and Osaka and also starred as Neptune in a fan production (Germany’s second oldest show troupe YUME MUSICAL - their shows are a huge recommendation if you’re looking for “original” content as in fanfictions coming to life. Here’s our “fan kan” from 2018)

I personally prefer the musicals with Nao Takagi and Yuuka Asami not only because they’re the MOST PERFECT UraNep EVER EVER EVER EVER, but also because their shows are the only ones also bringing original content to life. They’ve did a few pieces from the 5 arcs, but mostly, it’s the only time this franchise has ever done something outside their 5 arcs and I LIVE AND BREATHE FOR THIS. It’s about vampires. It’s about wrestling matches. It’s gold. IT’S THE ONLY KISS WE’VE SEEN TO THIS DAY. Also, pay close attention to the talented Hikari Ono in villain roles. (My favorite Moon is Miyuki Kanbe (rest in peace), btw) 

Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to watch this year’s Kaguya-hime yet, but I’m super interested in it since it also leaves the 5 arcs way. Also, UraNep look cuuuuuuuuuuute

So my recs are:

Shin Densetsu Kourin Kaguya Shima Densetsu => I would start with this one. It’s my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE and an easy way to get into this. It’s super fun and romance-y and the music is SO GOOD OH MY GOOD MYU MUSIC IS SO GOOD Kaguya Shima Densetsu (Kaiteiban) Natsuyasumi! Houseki Tankentai Shin / Henshin - Super Senshi e no Michi - Last Dracul Jokyoku Kessen / Transylvania no Mori - Shin Toujou! Ankoku no Princess Black Lady Tanjō! Ankoku no Princess Black Lady (Kaiteiban) - Wakusei Nemesis no Nazo 10th Anniversary Festival - Ai no Sanctuary Mugen Gakuen - Mistress Labyrinth

Don’t be afraid of the past musicals’ sometimes weird looking costumes! (They’re more sleek 2013 to 2017. When watching these ones, please pay close attention to RIONA TATEMICHI OH MY GOOD). Also, in these ones it’s an all ladies cast, so yes. Unfortunately, the singing voices of the Inners get less and less good the younger the musicals are ... I guess it’s because they went more for models than dancers/musical actors. There’s also the theory that actors evolve with each and every show like their characters, BUT NAO AND YUUKA WERE ALWAYS PERFECT

Karen played Petz in Tanjou! Ankoku no Princess Black Lady (Kaiteiban) - Wakusei Nemesis no Nazo, the Myu-only character Gallica in Mugen Gakuen - Mistress Labrynth and its Kaiteiban, and Nephrite in Starlights - Ryuusei Densetsu.

Two Transgender Women Elected in Japan’s Shinjuku Ward

On April 21st the Shinjuku Ward (a special ward in the city of Tokyo) held elections for their assembly. In these elections, two transgender women were elected to office, Mana Takatsuki, and Karen Yoda.

Takatsuki was born in Tokyo in 1973. She is a member of the Japanese Communist Party (far left party) and holds a master’s from Waseda University Graduate School of Philosophy. She has been actively working to help the disabled and elderly for the past 17 years. She ran on a platform of supporting these populations and establishing a same-sex partnership system in Shinjuku. Outside of politics, she enjoys painting and playing the violin and viola.

Yoda was born in the Achi Prefecture in 1972. She has worked as an administrative scrivener and as an LGBT trainer and lecturer. She has no party affiliation but campaigned on a platform which included improved LGBT education for educational professionals and making a better environment for children, including increased food access and free choice of gender school uniforms for students. Prior to transitioning at the age of 36, she worked as a dancer and musical actor who performed in various Sailor Moon musicals.

This is the first time in Japan that two openly transgender people will serve simultaneously in a municipality’s assembly. Good luck to both of them in their newly elected positions.

August 6 is the birthday of Kenji Urai, the sixth actor to play Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask in the Sailor Moon musicals. He performed in Tanjou! Ankoku no Princess Black Lady, Tanjou! Ankoku no Princess Black Lady (Kaiteiban) - Wakusei Nemesis no Nazo, 10th Anniversary Festival - Ai no Sanctuary, and Mugen Gakuen - Mistress Labyrinth.
