I dream of the day when the most severe tragedy any animal has to face is running out of tasty carrot treats ∙ This morning I said goodbye to the beautiful free residence of @Sashafarm where I have spent the last day and a half amongst these all-too-few-survivors ∙ Tomorrow morning I will be with the far too many victims at Fearmans slaughterhouse in Canada for the verdict of the #PigTrial of @torontopigsave's Anita Kranjc ∙ ∙ And an all day vigil at the pig, cow, and chicken death camps the next day. As always, the activists were giving water to the pigs. On this day their suffering was intensified due to a heatwave and many of the pigs were showing signs of heat-exhaustion/heat-stroke. When we give water to the animals, it is not only to try and ease their physical pain, but to show them, who have likely never experienced kindness from a human before, and who are minutes away from a violent death, that we care. That their lives matter. So that, even though we could not save their lives, we were at least able to prevent them from dying without ever having known love. We had been doing this for years without issue and yet it was for this that co-founder Anita Krajnc was criminally charged on that particularly hot day. If found guilty, she faces a possible 5000$ fine and jail time. Despite this, Anita has always been optimistic and saw the trial as a way to raise awareness about the devastation of animal agriculture for the environment, our health, and the animals. Indeed, this trial has brought Toronto Pig Save major media attention and as a result, The Save Movement has seen incredible growth, with the current number of groups being at almost 150 worldwide. So, in a beautifully ironic turn of events, no matter what the verdict, the #pigtrial has brought forth victory for the animals. Anita Krajnc. She is a woman standing for compassion these days. She gave water to dehydrated pigs as a last gesture of compassion, while they were on their way to the slaughterhouse. She now is charged for "criminal mischief" because of that facing a fine of 5000$!!! Even though one might not be a vegan or vegetarian, society must realize that COMPASSION IS NOT A CRIME!? 💗🐷 The woman mentioned is the founder of the Toronto Pig Save, a movement in Toronto to show pigs compassion during their final ride of life. She runs up to the trailers and gives one last drop of love to pigs before they are taken to Pig Island for eventual slaughter, in the form of comforting and loving words to the pigs and water. Anita and her team carry water bottle to quench the thirst of these tortured and forgotten beings. And she was recently requested to appear in court for doing so. On October 14th Anita appeared in court for charges of criminal mischief and interference with property. 8 million animals die every year in Canada due to poor transport policies, including the dismissal of water for the animals. If you think these animals are butchered and served to humans you are severely mistaken. They are either ground up and fed to the other animals in the factory or put in dog food. They are thrown in piles to keep them “out of the way” - discarded lives like those of genocides past. Anita is a passionate yet peaceful woman whose sole purpose was to nourish these forgotten souls. And she is asked to appear in court for this. She is being charged for this. In Canada, the true north strong and FREE. I don’t even have any words. Except that not only do we vegans and vegetarians stand with you, Anita, but so do those on the path to opening their eyes to the truth. This woman is a hero, not a criminal.
