A baby Pallas cat was born in the Helsinki Zoo, look at this tiny baby who bleps!

The Korkeasaari Zoo celebrated the birth of its first pallas cat and they gave the news on 10 august 2023 but the kitten in the photo is already 2 months old and she is healthy.

While the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) categorizes the Pallas cat as a species of "least concern," their numbers in the wild have been declining. These cats inhabit the vast and harsh grasslands and mountain steppes of Central Asia. Manuls are part of European zoos' conservation programs aimed at safeguarding their future. Korkeasaari Zoo contributes to the protection of wild manuls during this year's "Night of the Cats."

🌟 Cross-State Adoption Journey: Izzy & Cali 🌟

Hello, animal sanctuary friends and adoption advocates! 🐾 We’re so excited to share the story of two incredible dogs, Izzy and Cali, whom we’re helping through a cross-state adoption assistance program. Although we haven’t met them in person, we’ve been learning all about their personalities and can’t wait to help them find their way to loving homes.

Meet Izzy – Izzy is described as a bundle of energy and curiosity! Her rescuers say she’s quick to explore and always has a happy, playful demeanor that lights up the room. We can’t wait to see how her bright spirit will bring joy to her future family.

And here’s Cali – Cali is the calm, steady companion we all dream of. Her caretakers say she has an intuitive, gentle nature and loves nothing more than a good snuggle. She’s the kind of dog who’ll bring warmth and comfort wherever she goes.

Helping Izzy and Cali across state lines has been a beautiful experience, connecting us with new rescue partners and widening the network of families who want to welcome these amazing dogs. We’re so excited to continue following their journey and are grateful for everyone involved in making their transition possible. 💕

Look at how awesome the new place is coming along! It's an 8000 square feet (if you include the attached garage) barndominium! The entire bottom floor is all designed for the animals and 3/4 of the upstairs is Pipsqueakery related too. We do get a sweet little corner of our own for us, the groundhogs, Nicholas, and anyone else who inevitably needs to sleep in our bed but like theoretically I could sleep in a room with fewer than 20 animals! The most exciting part is really how it will give us space to give everyone much better set-ups though and really allow us to utilize the space so much better! At this point we have raised enough money for all the parts that outside contractors are doing but we still need to raise about $50,000 for the finishing. So that means framing, HVAC, electric, plumbing, concrete, and drywall upstairs is covered. However, we are still fundraising for all the things Jason and I will be doing! That includes floors (vinyl upstairs and epoxy downstairs comes to about $7,000), insulation everywhere (about $15,000), our deliciously inexpensive cabinets and counters for several different rooms (I think I can manage under $7,000), interior doors (apparently about $2000 for 20 something doors), the drop ceiling downstairs (i don't actually know how much), some bathroom fixtures (i.e. toilets, maybe $700), ceiling fans for a few places (about $1,500), and all the small random things that I'm definitely forgetting like doorknobs. So, if you're able to even spare $1 pretty please consider donating! Go team! Butch was rescued by @laanimalrescue who once again came through! This is yet another rescue I am a fan of. I posted a video of Butch a while back. I have never seen a dog leak so much poo or shoot poop out when he coughed. No dog deserves to land in a shelter. However, it goes for Butch… I am happy it won’t end with him behind metal bars and on concrete floors. I look forward to hearing about Butch’s journey. And I trust he is in very caring and capable hands. Repost from @laanimalrescue • Butch is safe! He was on borrowed time and we had to give him a chance! When I picked him up on Monday I really wanted to post his freedom announcement right then but seeing the condition he was in broke my heart and challenged my spirit. He’s going to require a lot of vet care, time and love! After two years of offering dog-sitting services, we’ve officially opened our sanctuary with a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide forever homes for dogs facing challenges like abandonment, neglect, or medical issues. 🐕💕 Whether they stay with us or find their perfect family, every dog receives the care, love, and respect they deserve.

Supporting veterans and active-duty service members is close to our hearts, as I come from a military family. My stepfather, aunt, uncle, and grandfather all served in the military, and we are proud to continue that spirit of service through the sanctuary. 🎖️🐾 If a veteran or service member is unable to care for their pet—whether they’re deploying or facing an emergency—we’re here to help by fostering their companions or finding them a new, loving home.

Our journey began with our personal crew of fur babies—Pepe 🐕 (Pomsky), Penny 🐾 (Chihuahua), Jolene 🐶 (Great Dane puppy), and our newest rescue, Lucky 🐕‍🦺 (formerly Rufus), who is currently receiving heartworm treatment. Rounding out the family are our two playful kitties, Tori 🐈 and Walker 🐱, who add even more joy to our home.

Couple of fun updates: Ezran, the groundhog with horrifyingly overgrown incisors is now a chunky lil teddy bear shaped thing. His incisors were removed back in October and the post-surgical healing went well. Since then he has put on some muscle and chub, learned how to navigate the bedroom well, and ingratiated with the other groundhogs very well despite not being brain damaged that we know of. He's also neutered because we don't need a pile of unreleasable disabled baby groundhogs. Second pic is Fiona who was brought to us from Tennessee where she was found with her entire lower leg ripped off. (Presumably a predator got her through a fence.) She now has great tripod mobility and a number of friends in the big sanctuary rabbit group. She plays, lounges, chases, and eats as she pleases.
