💔 Lucky’s Journey – Fighting Heartworm with Love
At Infinite Hearts Dog Sanctuary, every dog has a story – and Lucky’s is one of resilience, hope, and the incredible power of love. Lucky came into our lives during a difficult time, but his arrival felt like fate. What we didn’t know at first was that Lucky was heartworm positive.
Heartworm disease is not just a diagnosis – it’s a challenge that tests the patience and strength of both the dog and their caregivers. For Lucky, it’s been a long road, but he’s not walking it alone.
How Lucky Found Us
Lucky’s journey began when he was found wandering the streets, underweight and exhausted. Despite his rough condition, he had the sweetest eyes and a wagging tail that refused to quit. From the moment we brought him to the sanctuary, he felt like he belonged.
We took him in, thinking we’d help him heal, put some weight on him, and find him the perfect home. But as often happens in rescue, Lucky became part of our family.
At his first vet visit, we got the news – Lucky was heartworm positive.
What is Heartworm Disease?
Heartworm disease is caused by parasitic worms that live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels of infected dogs. It’s spread through mosquito bites and can lead to severe lung disease, heart failure, and even death if left untreated.
Dogs with heartworms often show no symptoms at first, but as the disease progresses, they may develop:
Coughing
Fatigue after exercise
Weight loss
Swollen belly from fluid buildup
The treatment for heartworms is not easy – it’s expensive, takes several months, and requires the dog to remain calm and confined to prevent complications.
Lucky’s Treatment Plan
Lucky’s heartworm treatment began immediately, but it’s a slow and delicate process. Over the next several months, Lucky will undergo:
Strict exercise restrictions – Any excitement or overexertion can put too much strain on his heart.
Multiple rounds of medication to kill the adult heartworms and larvae.
Anti-inflammatory drugs to manage side effects and discomfort.
Through it all, Lucky remains the happy, loving dog we’ve come to adore.
Why We’re Asking for Help
Heartworm treatment is expensive – often ranging between $1,000 to $3,000. For a small rescue like ours, every dollar matters. We’re committed to giving Lucky the care he needs, but we can’t do it alone.
That’s why we’re reaching out to you – our community of dog lovers and supporters.
Lucky deserves to live a long, healthy life. With your help, we can cover his medical expenses, continue his treatment, and give him the chance he’s fought so hard for.
How You Can Help
❤️ Donate to Lucky’s Recovery – Every dollar goes directly toward his heartworm treatment and care. 👉 Donate Now
Even if you can’t donate, sharing Lucky’s story helps raise awareness about heartworm disease and the importance of prevention.
Heartworm Prevention – Protecting Your Own Pup
The best way to protect your dog from heartworm is through monthly preventative medication. It’s affordable, easy to administer, and could save your dog from the kind of struggle Lucky is facing.
Prevention Costs: $10 to $15/month
Treatment Costs: $1,000 to $3,000 (and it’s hard on your dog’s body)
🐶 Please make sure your pets are protected. A small investment now can save lives later.
Lucky’s Future
Lucky’s story isn’t over – in fact, we believe the best chapters are still ahead. With your support, he’ll not only survive but thrive. And when the day comes that he’s heartworm-free, he’ll still be here, wagging his tail and reminding us why we started this sanctuary in the first place.
Thank you for being part of Lucky’s journey. Your support means the world to us – and to him.

About Us 🌈🐾 – Infinite Hearts Dog Sanctuary
Welcome to Infinite Hearts Dog Sanctuary, where every pawprint leaves a mark on our hearts! 🐾❤️ We’re Jamie and Michael, the proud founders of this sanctuary, built on love, second chances, and a deep passion for helping animals in need. 🏡💖
After two years of offering dog-sitting services, we’ve officially opened our sanctuary with a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide forever homes for dogs facing challenges like abandonment, neglect, or medical issues. 🐕💕 Whether they stay with us or find their perfect family, every dog receives the care, love, and respect they deserve.
Supporting veterans and active-duty service members is close to our hearts, as I come from a military family. My stepfather, aunt, uncle, and grandfather all served in the military, and we are proud to continue that spirit of service through the sanctuary. 🎖️🐾 If a veteran or service member is unable to care for their pet—whether they’re deploying or facing an emergency—we’re here to help by fostering their companions or finding them a new, loving home.
Our journey began with our personal crew of fur babies—Pepe 🐕 (Pomsky), Penny 🐾 (Chihuahua), Jolene 🐶 (Great Dane puppy), and our newest rescue, Lucky 🐕🦺 (formerly Rufus), who is currently came to us from GA and Romeo (formerly Alfie) 🐕🦺 from SC . Rounding out the family are our two playful kitties, Tori 🐈 and Walker 🐱, who add even more joy to our home.
Through our blog, we’ll share rescue stories, sanctuary updates, events, and ways you can help make a difference. 🌟 Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, every act of kindness helps us give these dogs the second chance they deserve. 🥰
Thank you for being part of our journey! Together, we can create a world where no heart goes unloved, and every dog finds the love they need. 🐾❤️
With love, Jamie & Michael Infinite Hearts Dog Sanctuary 🌈🐕
