Where the Armed Detective Agency’s Christmas party gets an unexpected guest…

Kenji: “Merry Christmas everyone!”

Fukuzawa: “Ranpo, do you think it wise to get filled on cookies and sweets before dinner?”

Ranpo was presently literally stuffing his face with the many holiday sweets laid out for the party…

Ranpo: “Absolutely!”

Kunikida: “In precisely four minutes and 37 seconds, we will begin the gift exchange! If you haven’t already, please see me about placing your gift in the perfect spot under the tree!”

Dazai: “Kunikida! Did you know it’s bad luck to put gifts wrapped in red under the left side of the Christmas tree?”

Atsushi mentally prepared to cover his ears in the coming minutes where Kunikida would learn he’s been tricked as he watched the ADA’s Christmas party unfold. Not having celebrated Christmas at the orphanage, the holiday was still a fairly new concept to him, but Atsushi quickly found it becoming his favorite holiday…

Kyouka: “How are you enjoying the party, Atsushi?”

Atsushi: “It’s great seeing everyone together like this! Although, honestly, I’m really excited to see what Santa brings everyone this year…”

Kyouka bit her tongue, no one in the ADA would dare tell Atsushi the truth about Santa Claus, not after everything he’s been through. The least they could do is let him cling to at least one beloved childish belief.

Kunikida’s incoming attempt to beat Dazai with a wrapping paper tube was interrupted as the door to the ADA office was slammed open, revealing an unexpected, and uninvited, guest…

Akutagawa: “JINKO!”

Atsushi: “What the–?”

The violent pounding of stairs could be heard behind Akutagawa, a familiar voice following…

Chuuya: “OI, COVER HIS EARS! SOMEONE COVER ATSUSHI’S EARS!”

Akutagawa: “You know who Santa Claus is, correct?”

Atsushi: “… Doesn’t everyone?”

Akutagawa: “Do you know the truth?”

The entire ADA sprung into action, immediately realizing why Akutagawa showed up. Dazai, Kunikida, and eventually Chuuya joined in on trying to drag Akutagawa out of the building while everyone else rushed to distract Atsushi…

Akutagawa: “What childish protectiveness– He needs to learn the truth someday!”

Everyone: “NOT YET!”

After Akutagawa unwillingly vacated the building, the party carried on happily. Even Chuuya came back to catch up with Kunikida for a bit, but not before handing Atsushi a small, wrapped box, claiming “Santa” stopped by the Port Mafia “early” and “accidentally dropped it off at the wrong organization.”

Everyone knew Atsushi had to learn the truth someday, but today wasn’t going to be that day… or the next Christmas, or the one after that, or the one after that, or the one after…
